Voilà un premier roman qui fera date ! En entremêlant des parcours très différents, Renaud Rodier réussit une vaste fresque pleine de bruit et de fureur, mais aussi de résilience et d’humanité. Dans leur quête, les personnages vont se croiser.

    En deux mots Une jeune fille qui quitte son Kansas natal pour New York, un jeune homme, descendant d’une famille juive viennoise va tenter de redorer le blason de sa famille, une intouchable va réussir à quitter l’Inde pour étudier à l’Université de Columbia, un jeune californien va chercher à se construire un avenir en passant par le Julliard School. Autant de destins qui vont se croiser…

Well deserved in my opinion, because as you can see (maybe) in my artwork, he doesn‘t deserve hate ❤️‍🩹

I tried to show his feelings, epecially with the coloring, even though I‘m not sure what he feels. Is it regret, confusion, grief or rather …helplessness? ❤️‍🩹 Poor Fox, why didn‘t you just stun your brother? I believe it was an order.

Yeah, it might be a heavy topic, but I‘m the hopefull type ❤️‍🩹 Never forget: Not even the whole darkness of the multiverse is able to blow out the light of a single candle flame 🕯️Recognize, that our souls are flames like this, even if we forget sometimes ✨🫶🏼 Rambling ☺️

I am so so so excited to announce project 34 with the amazing @paradimeshifts7 (work featured below!) for @steddiebang2024!!!

Summary: In the wake of yet another overtly public scandal, the lead guitarist for the folk metal band Corroded Coffin is sent away to his Uncle’s town of Bumfuck Nowhere, Indiana to spend his summer taking care of himself.

Which said lead guitarist certainly doesn’t need. Because Chrissy is overreacting. Because they all are, and Eddie doesn’t need to be treated like a Victorian child with a prescription for ocean breezes, he needs to be in LA with his band, practicing. Writing. Rehearsing.

He’s fine.

But his manager’s will is iron, and Eddie arrives at his uncle’s door feeling much like the homeless teen he was a mere decade ago, tail between his legs as he asks for more than he’s ever been able to give, and taking more than he can ever hope to repay.

With Wayne taking his arrival in stride, Eddie is forced to integrate himself into this new, slower-paced reality. He harvests chicken eggs. Churns mayonnaise. Takes a stab at home repair and weeds Wayne’s garden, all while eyeing the unfairly hot beekeeper next door.

However as the summer progresses, and Eddie falls faster and deeper than he ever imagined, this new reality forces him to grapple with what his fame has given him, and what it has taken away.

Intouchables and Last Twilight

So, when I was first watching the Last Twilight episode, something was bugging me about the choice of having Day in a wheelchair. Because it was a choice. And as I kept watching it, I kept feeling like I was missing something. My memory is terribly slow with these things, so it wasn't until I went back that I got it. Intouchables. So now, for some context. Intouchables is a french film from 2011 that tells the story of a french rich businessman that, after becoming quadriplegic from a paragliding accident, hires a young black man to be his carer. This is based on a true story. (Yes, there is an american version, but I haven't seen it so I can't speak to it.) If you've never watched this movie, go watch it, cause for sure Aof has watched it.

You can probably already see the parallels just from this small synopses. I'm gonna say too much about the movie, I'm just gonna talk about the similarities so far.

So we got our two main characters. Philippe and Driss. Philippe is our basic older rich white guy, with the palatial mansion and a hundred people servicing his every need. Also he's quadriplegic. Driss is the opposite side of all of this. He is poor, he lives off of unemployment benefits, his house is small and cramped, shared with family. So, Driss needs to look for a job to get the benefits, but he doesn't actually want the job. He just needs to show that he's looking for one. All he needs is a signature. Anyway... So he goes for an interview.

I think you can spot Driss.

While he's waiting for the interview, we see the other man being interviewed.

And at some point he's had enough.

And he simply bursts into the room.

I mean, one is a palatial living room, and the other is basically an office but you the picture. This next part in the film is slightly different in the show, because Driss is not even phased by the vision of the man in the wheelchair. He's much more interested in Magalie, the secretary, but we couldn't have that in our bl.

After this, the similarities continue. Because both Driss and Mork don't want the job, but both Philippe and Day are intrigued by this guy that just walked in and that doesn't seem to be interested in the actual job. Also because both Driss and Mork don't really act like what Philippe and Day are used to people acting around them.

[I beg of you. Even if you don't watch the film, just watch the interview bit. Because it's brilliant. Driss is brilliant] So Driss eventually leaves, to return another day for the signed paper. And Mork just leaves. And the next scenes are basically the same, we're shown the circumstances that will eventually lead them both to want the job. There are other parallels between Driss and Mork, and their circumstances and environment, the smoking and the drinking, the fighting... But for now this is it. I'll be re-watching the film this weekend so I might have some other thoughts but I wanted to get this out. I don't know if the show will continue to parallel the film, so I'm not going to say anymore about it. But I'm keeping this is mind for the next episode, because from the previews I have a feeling this is gonna continue. Also, I adore this film and everyone should watch it.

Saw you mentioned you were in the fandom during 2003’s peak. What was the fandom like back then? How different were things?

HMMM

i had to mull this one over for a bit. honestly, its hard to compare because of the difference in the internet in general.

when i was around, everything was done via forum posts (which meant interactions were slow and far apart), and chat rooms/paint chat rooms if you were artistically inclined.

you gotta figure it was 20+ years ago, so some things were more taboo back then and, at the same time, more accepted than they are now.

i think the biggest comparison i can give is that some of the most famous tmnt fanartists also drew tcest - and while it wasnt totally an accepted trend, it didnt stop people from enjoying their platonic art.

the must-be-perfect attitude in ALL fandoms have made that a thing of the past, for better or worse.

while its never been easier to interact with your heroes in the fandom, sometimes i think we can know too much about each other :) let me just enjoy artwork/fanfictions because they are good, and not because the person behind them are morally Sent From Heaven.
