oh brotherrrr I've probably complained about this before but why do annoying twitter users insist that aruani and eremin shippers are in direct opposition to each other, when most aruanis I know enjoy eremin and vice versa? and when one isn't a fan of the other, they don't tend to constantly rag on the ship they dislike.

from what I've seen, the people who are drawn to armin and understand his character tend to enjoy a variety of armin ships (aruani, eremin, jearmin, arumika, etc.), even if they have one ship they're primarily drawn to. for me, eremin is my primary ship with aruani as a close contender, and I love seeing art and discussion of all sorts of other ships too!

he wasn't hated by the cultivation world because he was an uppity servant trying to climb beyond his class and making the gentry look bad through his own integrity and righteousness, he was hated because he was extremely powerful and super scary and violated a ton of social taboos and behaved erratically in public and seemed beholden to nobody

it’s wild to me that like every modern adaptation of Sherlock Holmes (and by modern I mean “made recently” not “set in modern times”) is like Hell Bent on coming up with a Reason™️ that Watson stays with Holmes and trots around with him on adventures all the time despite the inconvenience and the danger and all, and so it’s like “oh, Watson’s a gambling addict, he loves uncertainty and mystery” or “oh, Watson’s an adrenaline junkie, he gets off on being constantly in danger from criminals” or even like “Watson’s atoning for sins of the past of BEING IN THE WAR by solving crimes with Holmes now” or WHATEVER. And it’s like, girl, maybe he’s just in love! Did you think of that?? Maybe he’s got a crush and it’s making him do stupid things. Maybe he’s just got bad taste and his type is guys who don’t know how to refold newspapers properly but can identify different types of cigar ash by sight, smell, and taste. thinking of the unique experience of being a scholar studying a historical figure and being the first person ever to get their hands on primary sources, not just retold myths and legends. the weird one-sided relationship where you know more about someone long-dead than anyone else alive, more than anyone in their own life knew of them too. feeling that you understand them. you'd even be friends if you met - you've stayed up countless nights compiling memories of them and you've thought of the exact right words you could have said to maybe ease their burden just a little. you could have saved them, they would have liked you, and no relationship is easier than when one of you has no say in the matter

✨️ Disaster Time ✨️

You know that feeling when you wait til the last second to do something and THEN it seems like THAT'S when everything goes wrong??? Right when you need everything to go smoothly?

You're thinking "the office is only 10 minutes away, so I'll leave 10 minutes before my appointment time!" And THAT'S when it happens; You forget to brush your hair, you can't find your keys, your wallet is missing, your GPS is glitchy, there's traffic, there's a detour, you hit every red light, there's no parking, you enter the wrong door, you can't find the room, etc. There's always SOMETHING.

I used to get SO MAD when everything would go wrong while I was on a time crunch. It seemed like when I least expected it, suddenly every object that could possibly get in my way would get in my way. I used to think, "The universe is out to get me 😔 No matter what I do, everything is gonna go wrong."

And that's when a switch went off in my mind...

Everything is gonna go wrong when I least expect it to!!!

Therefore -> I should stop being surprised and just. Expect it to!!

Every time!

Hence, the invention of ✨️Disaster Time✨️

Disaster Time (noun) the extra time you alot for disasters.

If you just KNOW something's gonna go wrong and then just PLAN for something to go wrong! Then you'll always be ready for it!

Because something is always is gonna happen, right? Something is always gonna go wrong. You don't know what's gonna go wrong, so instead of hoping nothing goes wrong and then being disappointed when something does go wrong, just alot some Disaster Time!

So you think to yourself "the office is only 10 minutes away, so if I give myself 10 extra minutes of Disaster Time for when The Disaster happens, then I'll leave 20 minutes before my appointment time."

Your assignment's due at midnight? Disaster Time! Make it due at 11:40 to account for when the [internet goes out / file gets corrupt / website doesn't load / grammar errors pop up ]

Your hangout is at 8pm? Disaster Time! Give yourself 10 extra minutes to [find your missing phone / stop and grab some gas / brush your hair / quickly eat a snack]

Work at 9? Disaster time! Leave 15 minutes earlier for when [you spill coffee on your shirt / your car light goes off / you forgot something and have to go back]

People used to tell me to do things "early" but I have adhd and time blindness! "Early" doesn't exist!!! "Early" is an abstract concept! And "early" isn't as motivating as "The Last Second"

So instead, alot a set amount of Disaster Time and adjust your "last second" to account for that pesky inevitable Disaster, and you'll always be on time!

If you EXPECT that everything will go wrong EVERY time and just *account* for that when you plan, then you'll always be on time!

So, I've been thinking a lot about a particular criticism of hotd and how its depiction of women as inherently peace loving or avoiding violence is sexist. Something about that has never really sat right with me and I couldn't really put my finger on why until I started doing this recent rewatch.

My first issue comes from the fact that in particular, none of the main three female characters this criticism is levied at (Rhaenyra, Alicent, and Rhaenys), actually seems to be completely averse to violence. All three women witness or tacitly endorse violence either done on their behalf or commit it themselves if they find it an acceptable means to an end. Alicent ignores Criston's violent murder of Lyman Beesbury at the Green Council, failing to flinch or even reprimand him for his outburst because Beesbury's death is an acceptable loss to her in that moment and is useful for the purposes of installing Aegon as king. Slightly less obviously, we also can presume that Alicent is the reason Criston was never punished for his murder of Joffrey Lonmouth. Again, this is violence excused and therefore tacitly endorsed by her if it allows her to achieve her specific aims. Similarly, Rhaenrya makes no argument against Vaemond Velaryon's murder after he calls her sons bastards in the Red Keep. Though it is Daemon who ultimately swings the sword, Rhaenyra is not enraged nor upset after Vaemond is killed. Once again, we see a willingness to allow violence committed in her name, provided it does not, in her own mind, exceed what she believes is necessary to protect herself and her family. Even before Vaemond, at Driftmark, Rhaenyra suggests that her young brother Aemond be "sharply questioned," aka tortured, in order to discover who told him the "lies" regarding her son's parentage. "Necessary" violence is once again excused and encouraged.

My second issue comes from the fact that, in my own opinion, what we actually see from Rhaenyra, Alicent, and Rhaenys is simply a restraint when it comes to wanton violence and all out war. All three women are well aware of its inevitability, and are willing to cross that line when it becomes necessary, but simply attempt to exhaust other avenues before dragging the realm into total chaos. It's not that these women are inherently peace loving, it's simply that they are less concerned with displaying the traits that a hyper masculine Westerosi honor culture champions: namely unrestrictive and immediate violence. Their status as women *would* inherently change their perspective on war and violence, because they have not in the same way been conditioned by a society that celebrates impulsive masculine violence. This does not mean, however, that they are not willing to commit it. All three acknowledge multiple times that it will be necessary to achieve their aims, they are simply attempting to avoid spilling as much blood as possible in a way that none of the men within the story are interested in, except, interestingly enough, perhaps Otto Hightower.

TLDR: I don't like that criticism and think it's maybe more nuanced than people believe because it ignores the violence the women in the story do allow in order to reductively criticize the show for being "sexist."
