Welcome to airport theory, a viral delusion that suggests you can roll up to the airport 15 minutes before boarding, waltz through security, and still make your flight with time to spare. No stress, no waiting, just pure main character energy.

TikTok creators like Michael DiCostanzo (@michael.dicostanzo) swear by it, documenting their dashes through high-traffic hubs like LAX, Atlanta International Airport, and post–Super Bowl New Orleans. Some viewers are sold. Others are calling BS.

“So you had PreCheck, didn’t check a bag, and were at the nearest terminal? Now let’s do it when it’s not the optimal situation,” one user commented. And, sure enough, the internet is also littered with failed attempts—videos of forlorn TikTokers watching their flights take off without them, their carry-ons full of regret.

It’s a fun fantasy, which explains why “airport theory” has racked up over 400 million views on TikTok. Unfortunately, the the Transportation Security Administration doesn’t care about your viral moment. The national average wait time for security was 27 minutes, 16 seconds in 2024. And if you’re flying out of a notorious bottleneck like JFK, Orlando International, or Chicago O’Hare, it’s closer to 40 minutes. Google searches for “I missed my flight what do I do” have spiked 70 percent in the past month, per Google Trends. It’s not hard to connect the dots.

Here is your sad reality check: Airlines still recommend arriving at least two hours before a domestic flight, three for international. Sometimes that buffer feels like overkill. But would you rather rush through the airport with your heart racing or have a few minutes to find your gate, grab a bag of overpriced whatever, and scroll TikTok watching other people miss their flights? That sounds like a much better airport theory to us.

Airport Hacks That Actually Work

The best way to get through airport security unscathed is to move like you’ve done this a hundred times before. A little planning, the right gear, and skipping social media stunts will get you from curb to gate with minimal stress.

Time It Right

Travel off-peak. According to CheapAir, Tuesdays and Wednesdays are often less crowded. Early flights between 5 and 8 am and red-eyes (after 9 pm) tend to have fewer passengers.

Check TSA wait times in advance. The My TSA app (iOS, Android) provides real-time security line updates at major airports.

Get the Right Apps

Download your airline’s app for mobile boarding passes and real-time gate updates.

Get TSA PreCheck. Some credit cards even cover the fee. Global Entry (available at select airports) includes PreCheck and fast-tracks reentry into the U.S. Or consider Clear Plus, which uses biometric scans to bypass ID checks.

Use Mobile Passport Control app (iOS, Android) to submit your customs info beforehand for faster reentry to the US.

Pack Smart

Start with an empty bag. Double-check TSA-restricted items list to avoid accidentally smuggling contraband.

Go carry-on only. The Away Carry-On for $275 is our favorite, but if you want to avoid Away’s baggage, try Monos ($255) or July ($295).

Track your luggage. If you check a bag, stash an AirTag inside for iPhone users or a Chipolo One Point ($25) or Card Spot ($29) for Android.

Dress for Efficiency

Empty your pockets before security. Stash everything in your carry-on instead of fumbling at the checkpoint.

Keep metal jewelry, watches, and belts in your bag until after screening.

Avoid boots or high-tops. Slip-ons like Allbirds' Tree Runners for $98 and the Rothy’s Driving Loafer for $189—we've raved about them in the past—make security a breeze. If you’re not planning on sprinting through the airport, the Bearpaw Martis Slippers ($70) are ultra-comfy.

Skip bulky outerwear. Coats, hoodies with big pockets, and anything with excessive zippers just slow you down. If you have PreCheck, you can usually keep your shoes, belt, and light jacket on.

Hey! I wanna talk for a sec about the Live Music Archive. If you're a tMG fan who's on here you probably already at least know about it, but for anyone unfamiliar I want to do a quick post talking about what it is and how you can listen!

The Live Music Archive is a collection hosted by the Internet Archive for audio recordings of concerts. Specifically, the LMA hosts, with permission from the band, user-contributed recordings of concerts. Some fans will go to concerts with recording gear to take a full audio recording of the show and then upload it to the archive under the band's collection. As of writing this post there are almost 450 live tapes uploaded to the tMG LMA collection!

There's a few ways that you can listen to recordings on the Live Music Archive. The webpage works pretty well both on desktop and mobile browsers, and that's what I typically use. You can also listen on web without having to make an account on the Internet Archive, which is convenient for browsing. I also use the webpage to download mp3s of favorite tapes to my phone, so that I can listen to them in my local music player.

However, if you don't mind making a free account and prefer the convenience of something more like Spotify, you can also listen to anything on the LMA via the Taper's Section app for Android or the Live Music Archive app for iOS! (Obligatory disclaimer that I use an Android and can't personally vouch for the iOS app, but afaik they have similar features.) The apps have the same functionality as the webpage in a more streamlined mobile-friendly interface, plus things like notifications when there's a new tape added to a collection you follow and downloading in-app for offline listening. The Android app also has a tab for tapes from today's date, there's often at least one (there are FOUR for today!) and that's a really fun way to find tapes to listen to.

If you're looking at this going, wow, that sounds really cool but there's so many tapes that it's a little overwhelming to get into this, don't worry! I'll leave you with a couple recommendations. As mentioned above, I like to listen to shows from the current date. Another fun way to find shows is looking for a specific song - you can go on the wiki and it'll list every show at which the song has been played live, and then just search until you find one of them that has a tape on the archive. Lastly, a few specific favorite tapes of mine:

- 2014-06-15 has the entirety of Taboo VI: The Homecoming played live + one of my absolute favorite performances of both Woke Up New and The Best Ever Death Metal Band In Denton.

- 2015-06-01 is the only time Straight Six has ever been played live and it's interestingly pretty different from the EP version, plus a phenomenal back to back Spent Gladiator 1 & 2.

- 2021-08-06 was the first show after the band started playing concerts again post 2020, and it has a really incredible energy and a phenomenal setlist.

- 2024-03-01 is from the recent run of solo shows, this one was at Grace Cathedral and the ambience is truly truly incredible, it feels so ethereal.

re: shadow-hybrid Persona powers (i have some intended comics to doodle around these scenarios but i'm jotting my ideas down in text post form first, lest i forget haha)

all of the shadow-hybrids can still Use their respective magic/skills, just no more persona-"summoning" involved, they just use their own bodies as a catalyst for casting spells directly. i like to think this is both inherently a little more powerful AND a little more dangerous to the user.

as stated previously yosuke (and souji, by extension, and anyone else who might get transformed in this au) when inside the tv world in hybrid form is vulnerable to essentially being possessed by his own shadow personality. for yukari inside Tartarus I think it's a little different BECAUSE shadows work so thematically Differently in p3; instead she's always still more or less in Control, but is susceptible to losing that Grip on herself the way Shinjiro/Strega/the artificially-awakened persona users do, or even akin to her existing scene with Io in the movie. (since Losing Control Of Your Persona is already a prominent plot element of p3 i'm excited to run that thru-line through the au, and like I mentioned i already have some fun ideas about how shinji's involvement here heheheee...stay tuned) anyway, Yukari is shortly able to rejoin being an active member of SEES, but she's more prone to being addled by unstable Tartarus days, floor effects, certain status conditions like......Charm..... (is this me just looking for a convenient Sex Pollen trope setup??? what??? who said that???)

outside of the dungeon environments they can still technically "use" garu/zio/etc skills to the extent of...being mildly annoying. (summoning a light breeze, giving off some residual static shock.) it's also usually unintentional and VERY funny

there are 7 main characters of the story which I will represent through their sims:

this is teagan angharad evans. she is the only human character in the whole thing and she's LITERALLY silly. started as an author insert but is slowly getting away from me as she develops. she's very lonely at the start of the story to the point she's losing grip on reality and becoming overly attached to the coast where she lives (it's some weird amalgamation of cornwall/north devon/sw wales, dw about it x) but after she joins the mermaid gang and gets some cool bracelets she's chilling for reals. fun facts she has a crab shell and seaglass collection and she can't plait hair that's why hers is always gross and crusty and tangly

this is anemone valthalisia she's arguably the main main character of the story and also. comically miserable and self pitying. essentially she's just generally insecure about most things especially her weak magic power (there's magic here lol dw about it. you do it by singing) which is not helped by the fact that her childhood best friend is the most powerful magic user in living memory. and just generally better than her at most things especially making friends. we call her ane for short (or mona, if you are her brother). I should also mention that her brother is the king and she is the princess. probably the least useful royal ever and I would know a thing or two about useless royals (🇬🇧) and the whole story is started by her brother telling her she needs to stop staring out of her window at the capital city below and start improving PR especially as the 15 year anniversary of the monster attacks (rename incoming) is coming up. but what's this about monsters. anyway fun fact she has misophonia around scratching noises and she's sapphic as fuck

this is selma lamthi she's anemone's very powerful childhood best friend :) she's what my mother would call eccentric but what I would call silly and also extremely overconfident and lacking common sense/boundaries tbh. perhaps she is in fact what my mother would call autistic. anyway she's very knowledgeable about magic theory especially this one very powerful witch from about 200 years ago (not sure on dates yet) who was called nileao and pioneered the art of making conduit jewellery to increase your magical power. this is what inspired her to make her own magic jewellery which I can't represent using sims but. it's literally just a small murex shell on a long gold chain. she's stubborn and very resilient :) we love her. fun fact she teaches basic magic theory at the magic tuition school that she (& anemone and also io dw abt her yet) went to as a child

this is melyde jalodir she is probably the most disposable character here (tied with enith maybe) but I love her so idgaf. she's ginger so she lacks a soul also she grew up in an orphanage in the kelp forests because her parents died in the monster attacks 15 years ago. she spent most of her childhood working on the kelp farm and developing anger issues, then when she was 16 she moved to the capital city to try her hand at being a street performer since she'd always been told she had a very pretty singing voice. recently someone threw a weird golden locket at her as a tip for her performance and 500 voices came out of her at once when she touched it but I'm sure everything's fine. she's got other stuff to worry about. fun fact she can do minor camoflage and she hates hates hates sea urchins. also her singing voice is based on the singer tiffany's so if you're curious check her out :))

this is enith edrene she's the oldest member of the main group. she comes from a big glass-making town in the deep ocean trench but moved up to the capital city to start a mapmaking and tour guide business. she makes maps. she's very very nice (at the start) and I think shep's og fave. fun fact her haircut is very unfashionable by mermaid standards (sims not doing it justice trust me) but she's using it to make a statement, and she has absolutely zero magic power

this is isther :) she has no last name (that she knows of) and she's I believe shep's fave but I might be wrong. a lot of her character is spoiler stuff but basically. 15 years ago a bunch of really gnarly gross sea monsters emerged from a big, undiscovered cave and started randomly attacking the mer ocean before one escaped and made it to the human coast. this killed melyde's and selma's parents and teagan's older brother. after about two years of slowly decreasing attacks the queen at the time (alsinth, anemone's mother) announced that they had finally subdued the monsters. they sealed the monsters back in the cave and moved on again. what the public didn't know is that the attacks stopped because alsinth and her boyfriend or whatever discovered that the monsters were being controlled by this infant girl called isther. they sealed isther in the cave too (long story) where she stayed for 15 years, never knowing what she was, until the mermaid group (see above) accidentally broke into the cave and found her. she was chilling for a couple weeks until she got upset and accidentally started the monster attacks again whoopsie. then it all spiraled from there. fun fact she's a very slow swimmer (usually has to use her arms which not many mermaids do) and she has a sick metal choker!! haha

this is iolanthe zainilaou (io). unforch she is not one of the main group but she's very very important to the story so I will include her here. she's anemone's thematic foil and the last living descendant of the witch nileao. she too is not very magically powerful but instead of getting insecure like ane does she gets bitter and entitled. but I'm sure she's moved past that haha. currently she spends most of her time in her workshop in outskirts of the capital city making and selling jewellery. fun fact she is kinda evil lol but if I am a fan of shep's kasia then I have to also be a fan of io. also I gave her all her problems so I can't really hold them against her.

Can I submit a photo for fun?

If it's your own bird photo, then it can be submitted as either a Bird ID photo or a Quiz Bird. Our General rule of thumb is, if you know what the bird is, then submit it as a bird quiz. If you don't know what bird it is, submit as a bird ID.

Are anonymous quiz submissions ok?

Absolutely! We just ask that you specify that you wish to stay anonymous, so that we don't think it's a Tumblr glitch.

Are submissions limited to America or some sort of specific regions?

Not at all. Submissions are open to anyone who's taken a bird photo.

Where's my submission?

It's possible we just haven't gotten to you yet. Each submission is selected via lottery, and scheduled two weeks out.

Additionally, not every submission will be used. Sometimes the image is lacking key identifiers, or the submission did not follow the guidelines.

Can you tell me if my submission won't make it on the quiz?

WTB will not be proactively reaching out to users. The lack of options to contact the person hinders our ability to do so. Square Enix will release the original Dragon Quest Builders for PC via Steam on February 13 for $27.99, the company announced. Users who already own Dragon Quest Builders 2 on Steam will be able to purchase Dragon Quest Builders at a discounted price.

Dragon Quest Builders first launched for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PS Vita on January 28, 2016 in Japan, followed by PlayStation 4 and PS Vita on October 11, 2016 in North America and October 14, 2016 in Europe. 2. Is your CC free?

Yes! My stuff will ALWAY be free unless it is a commission. I sincerely doubt I will ever start a Patreon, although maybe one day I will have a Kofi donation page.

3. How do you start making a sim? What’s your process?

If it is a celebrity sim, or a sim of a fictional character like Arthur Morgan, I will always go CC shopping first! I usually start with the hair, then if the sim has particularly iconic outfits (e.g. Fran Fine) I will find as close as possible. Sometimes this is really easy, as with @plazasims RDR2 Outfits, but sometimes I have to be a little creative! Then, I always try to create the sim from Pinterest references first. I usually take a few hours away from it so I can see it again with fresh eyes, and it is usually at this point where I will introduce a photo overlay. Essentially, I will overlay an image onto The Sims 4 window and have my sim and the photo side by side. Laying the photo directly on top and ‘tracing’ is a BAD idea! You can’t see the real sim underneath! Usually looks WEIRD afterwards. If I’m feeling stuck, finding a reference on Pinterest at a 3/4 angle and editing my sim in that view helps a lot! It gives you a fresh perspective and often sorts out problems you didn’t even know you had.

4. What’s your main save?

My main save is (totally cliche, I know) actually my Simself in PlumbobKingdom’s save file! It’s INCREDIBLE, and makes the game so much more fun and interesting with the variety of locations, and everything just looks SO much nicer!

I don’t render my sims in Blender, as I can’t use TS4 Sim Ripper! I am a Mac user. My photo editing process; taking screenshots in CAS using Trait poses, and photos in game using poses and @ravasheencc Full Control Camera. I then use Picsart on iOS to knock up the composition, Snapseed to clean up the photo (sharpen, colour balancing, glow, vignette etc) and Clipdrop Relight (online) for the lighting.
