Peter’s quiet today.

Tony clocks it the moment the kid walks in the lab.

Usually, the kid is bouncing off the walls with excitement, ready to tackle whatever Tony has to throw at him and with a story from his day to boot.

But today... Today Peter wasn’t... Peter.

Tony decides to let the kid settle in and do his homework by himself for a while before he asks any questions.

An hour goes by before Peter makes any noise. And it’s just a small huff.

Tony looks up to see Peter chewing on the edges of his sleeves. A habit he developed a few months ago when he gets between nervous and upset.

Tony bites the inside of his cheek and takes a deep breath.

“FRIDAY, go ahead and order Chinese for tonight, our usual.”

“Of course.”

Peter doesn’t even stir from his staring contest with the wall when the two voices speak.

Tony gets up from his spot and moves to sit next to Peter at his desk.

Peter still doesn’t bat an eye.

It’s only when Tony lays a hand on the kid’s shoulder when Peter startles, gasping.

“Hey, it’s alright. Just me.”

Peter looks at Tony for a moment before nodding and looking back at the wall.

“Wanna tell me what’s got you so...?” Tony makes an odd gesture towards Peter with his hands.

Peter shrugs, “I don’t know,”

Tony gently pushes him with his shoulder, “Please? A hundred bucks for your thoughts?”

The boy giggles, “It’s ‘a penny for your thoughts’.”

“Yeah well I’m a billionaire so I’ll pay whatever I damn well please for your thoughts.”

Peter laughs again, then turns towards his father figure.

“Can I ask you something?”

“Anything.” Tony says, nodding.

Peter bites his lip and hesitates, his mouth opening and closing a few times before he asks, “Are you bi?”

The question stuns Tony at first. Where the hell did-

Oh.

“What?”

Peter’s eyes aren’t meeting Tony’s and he’s wringing his hands.

“Bi, like, bisexual. Like, you’re sexually attracted to-“

“I know what it means Peter!” Tony holds up his hands to stop Peter from giving him a talk he doesn’t need.

“Sorry,” Peter shrinks a little, “It’s just that, sometimes you do or say things, and I thought, maybe,”

“Kid, stop.”

Peter’s mouth slams shut. Tony drums on the desk for a second before answering, “You’re right. I am.”

Peter’s head snaps up and for the first time that day his eyes meet Tony’s.

“Wait, really?”

“Yes, really. Why are you asking me this?” Although, Tony has a pretty good idea as to why Peter’s asking.

“Well, I.. I, um...” Peter was biting his lip again and scratching his neck.

Tony raised a brow, but didn’t speak. He was going to let Peter do this on his own terms.

After a few long moments, he let out a defeated sigh, deflating.

“I’m bi, too.”

“Well don’t seem so upset about it.”

“What?”

He claps the boy’s shoulder, “Pete, it’s who you are. No shame in that. You love who you love. Boy, girl, non-binary, whoever. I don’t care how you identify or what your sexuality is as long as its not harming you or anyone else. I love you for you. Got it?”

And yeah, Peter gets it, but this is the first time Tony has ever explicitly said the words “I love you” to him and he’s trying not to make a big deal out of it.

So he nods his head, albeit a little too rough, and replies, “Yeah. Got it.” Sniffling, he wipes his nose quickly and a tear that had escaped.

In an attempt to get rid of the emotions built up in his throat, Tony adds, “Plus, statistically that adds like, what, another fifty perfect chance you’ll find a suitable partner?”

Peter giggles again, “I don’t think that’s how the math works.”

Tony chuckled, “Fine, whatever. But you know, I’ve had a suspicion that you were into guys for a while. You practically drool whenever you’re around Thor.”

Peter’s lips thinned into a line and his face turned a deep red.

“Do not.”

“Actually, you do. Even Cap, the man out of time himself where homosexuality was illegal and ignored, asked me if you had some sort of crush on him. May and I even made a bet on how long it would take you to come out.”

Peter squawked, mouth dropping to the floor, “What!”

Tony shrugged, “I told Cap to ask you. Obviously that didn’t happen. And now I owe May ten bucks. ”

“Ugh, wonderful. Now I’ve completely embarrassed myself. And my parents are gambling on my emotional turmoil.”

“If it’s any consolation, you’ll embarrass yourself a whole lot more in your lifetime.”

“Mister Stark!”

“There there, spider baby,” Tony pat his kid’s brown curls, “How about we go officially tell Aunt Hottie. And the team. I may owe her ten bucks but now half the team owes me like fifty.”

Peter groaned, slamming his head down on the table so hard that Tony later made Bruce check his head for injuries.

Siirius

Siirius on Suure Peni (Canis Major) kõige heledam täht, ning ühtlasi ka põhjapoolkera heledaim täht.

Eestlased kutsusid Siiriust ka Orjatäheks, kuna vanasti olevat orjad alles peale Siiriuse tõusmist vabaks lastud.

NB! Veebruaris tõuseb Siirius umbes kell kuus õhtul, jõulude ajal kümne paiku, ning sügisel varahommikul.

Suur Vanker (Ursa Major)

Pilvitul öösel tähistaevasse vaadates oskab enamus inimesi suhteliselt kiiresti üles leida Suure Vankri ehk Suure Karu. Suur Vanker koosneb seitsmest tähest: Dubhe, Merak, Phad (Phecda), Megrez, Alioth, Mizar, Alcor ja Alkaid (Benetnash). Tähtkuju heledaim täht, Alioth, on heleduselt 33. täht taevas.

Liikudes Suure Vankri viimase kahe tähe (Dubhe ja Merak) abil viis ühikut (üheks ühikuks võtta Dubhe ja Meraki vaheline kaugus), Dubhe suunas, leiad taevast Põhjanaela (Polaris), mis on väga lähedal taeva põhjapoolusele. Põhjanaela järgi on võimalik umbes määrata põhjasuund.

Tähtkujude nimed tulenevad tavaliselt lugudest ja müütidest. Lisan siia eestlaste versiooni Suure Vankri legendist.

Ennemuiste läinud talumees nimega Peedo oma härjavankriga läbi metsa. Hunt tuli metsast, hüppas härjale selga ning tahtis teda ära süüa. See oli aga vanade eestlaste eluolu üle valvava Vanaisa seaduste vastu – tööle minevat, töötavat, töölt tulevat looma ega inimest ei tohtinud murda. Karistuseks pani Vanaisa hundi härja kõrvale vankrit vedama.   Hunt nagu hunt ikka ei taha aga tööd teha ning vahib metsa poole. Taevas on selle koha peal kaksiktäht, üks hele ja teine nõrgem. Inimene, kes näeb Hundi tähte võib rõõmustada, tema silmanägemine on kaugele vaatamise mõttes normaalne. (Tartu Observatoorium)

Sellele legendile toetudes saab igale Suure Vankri tähele (1. pilt) anda rolli. Dubhe, Merak, Phad ja Megrez kujutavad vankri rattaid, Alioth vankri aisu, Mizar ja Alcor vastavalt härga ja hunti, ning Alkaid talumeest.

Kreeka mütoloogias on lugu hoopis teistsugune:

Kreeka mütoloogia kohaselt sünnitas Arkaadia kuninga tütar Kallisto peajumal Zeusile väljaspool abielu poja nimega Arkas. Zeusi abikaasa Hera sai sellest teada ning maruvihasena muutis Kallisto karuks ja pani ta taevasse - sellisesse kohta, kus ta kunagi ei looju, seega ei saa ta ka oma kasukat “Suures ookeanis” pesta. Kallisto peab pesemata iga päev oma lühikest ja igavat teed käima. Suure Karu lähedal on Karjuse tähtkuju, kus hele täht Arktuurus oli tuntud kui “Karuvalvur”, tegelane, kes pidi valvama, et Karu oma trajektoorilt ei lahku. (Tartu Observatoorium)

Kuid ometigi ei kutsuta Suurt Vankrit igal pool ühte moodi. Veel nimesid Suurele Vankrile:

Inglismaa - ader maa kündmiseks.

Venemaa - suur koorem.

Soome - püsiv vitstest punutud kalavõrk jõgedes.

Kesk-Euroopa - suur kopsik/kulp vee tõstmiseks (Big Dipper)

Leedu - maneež, koht, kus hobuseid jooksutati.

Araabia - matuserong, vankri osa on kirst ja kirstu kandjad ning vankri ais on kolm nutunaist.

Orion

Orionile panid lõunaeestlased nimeks Koot ja Reha (põhjaeestlased ja saarlased ninetasid Orioni nimega Vardatähed). Orioni vöö ehk Reha sihib põhjapoolkera heledaima tähe, Siiriuse, poole.

Orioni tähtkuju järgi ennustati kunagi ka tulevast aastat. Öeldi, et kui Orioni vöö (Reha), hästi paistab, siis tuleb hea põllusaak, ja kui ei paista, siis tuleb halb saak ja ilm.

Vanad eestlased kutsusid planeete rändavateks tähtedeks. Kui Veenus hommikuti taevas nähtaval oli, kutsuti seda Koidutäheks, ning kui seda õhtuti näha oli, Ehatäheks.

Plejaadid

Plejaadid on täheparv Sõnni (Taurus) tähtkujus. Plejaadid ehk M45 (Messier 45) on üks 110st taevaobjektist, mille avastas prantuse astronoom Charles Messier.

Vanad eestlased kutsusid Plejaade Sõelaks, ning seda kasutades mõõtsid nad oma silmanägemise tugevust. Kui vaataja nägi kuut või enamat tähte, loeti tema silmanägemine tugevaks.
