If Team 7 were DigiDestineds (Part 10)

(Legally adopted in his mid-teens by Hatake Kakashi) Hatake Sai's Crests would be Hope (Virtue) and Envy (Sin). His digivice is a black D-Ark/D-Power (which lacks the card slot and) which has a medium grey rim (around the screen) & matching buttons & a likewise strap with the clip for attaching the digivice to things being black. The digivice's dark grey square screen has 1 of Sai's Crests appear on it in black whenever he connects with his Digimon partner emotionally in ways that link to the either of the 2 Crests. He has a

Botamon (who he nicknames Ink) as his Digimon Partner. Initially seeing them (Ink is agender) solely as a tool due to his horrific childhood, Sai eventually learns to have a true (a.k.a. healthy) partnership/platonic friendship with Ink. This nearly comes at the cost of his Digimon partner's goofy personality, though; since Sai's unintentional abuse (he doesn't know what happened to him was wrong and child abuse, so it doesn't occur to Sai to treat Ink as a real friend 'til he starts overcoming his own trauma) breaks Ink little by little 'til there's nearly nothing left of their original cheerful personality.

When the duo manages to bond for the 2nd ever time despite all the toxicity, Ink digivolves into

Wanyamon then the next harmonious moment between human partner & Digimon partner results in Ink digivolving into either

Liollmon or

Drawmon or

Ekakimon.

Ink digivolves from both their Drawmon form & their Ekakimon form into

Effecmon then

Fumamon.

Whenever the duo's bond reaches its peak, Sai & Ink matrix digivolve with the latter being at the Rookie Level when doing so. If they's Drawmon or Ekakimon, the end result is

HeavyLeomon. If Ink is in their Liollmon form instead, the end result of them matrix digivolving with Sai is

BanchoLeomon.

Near the end of Team 7's adventures, BanchoLeomon sacrifices himself/themself. Fortunately, a hastily formed shield around them/him lessens the damage from impact then he's/they's magically healed (the medics using all their power to do so yet it still is) just barely enough for them/him to survive; Sai spends many months hospitalised immediately after him & his Digimon partner de-matrix-digivolving whilst Ink reverts into a DigiEgg with no memories of everything that had happened when they hatches. Both receive a lot of support from the others.

Reading your newest post, I feel like Neji, Iruka, Naruto, Kiba would be the quickest to warm up the the new child. The Naruto boys oddly enough.

As we all know Naruto is a sweetheart that would instantly understand and comfort the pup because he knows what it's like to be alone.

Neji would be jealous, of course, but his desire for a child would overcome his jealousy. He may smother them in his mothering ways as I can definitely see Neji as the type to treat all sad looking pups like a mother hen.

Kiba is definitely another jealous one but he has his herd of pups so what's one more? If it's his Alpha's pup, you KNOW he isn't gonna let his alpha reject a pup of theirs.

Lastly, Iruka, an obvious one. I mean, come one, he took in Naruto so you know he isn't scared to adopt pups. Iruka loved pups so to have another one is just a blessing for him.

As like a side note, Rock Lee and Itachi would definitely be the best bros for the new pups. They would make the pup feel so welcome and loved.

Naruto is so friendly with orphaned children, he knows what it's like to be all alone, and he really accepts them into his family with no troubles at all. He's might be a bit overwhelming for a grieving pup sometimes, but he really tries his best and I could see the pup getting very attached to him, very quickly.

Neji feels an initial sick jealously where he's reminded that his alpha can apparently conceive by accident with other partners, but with him, who's broken, that just doesn't happen even after a year of actively trying. He recognises how toxic that reaction is though and pushes it down. He's very gentle and understanding with the new pup and his inclination towards structure probably helps the pup adjust. He accepts the pup as his own and lowkey really hopes they start calling him oma... He won't force it... But he wishes it a lot.

Kiba is incredibly salty that his eldest wasn't technically your oldest pup. He's lowkey pretty internally hateful towards this other omega, but he doesn't take it out against the pup at all. He welcomes the pup with open arms, but I can imagine the pup finds the family very overwhelming. It depends on the pup's personality whether they take to Kiba straight away or not, but he doesn't hold it against them if they don't. He's determined to make the pup part of the family eventually.

Iruka's heart bleeds so much when he meets the tired, crying pup holding your hand and hears about his oma dying/being dead. He takes them in straight away and doesn't even hesitate. He lets them design their room and makes them hot milk when they have nightmares. He really steps up as an oma with no complaints and a serious dedication. He will cry when the pup first says that they love him.

And you're totally right, Lee and Itachi would also welcome the pup with open arms, the sweethearts :D

Background Info:

So Iruka didn’t actually adopt Naruto (he’s barely over 20) but since they were always together and Naruto would more often than not spend the night at his place, at some point they just started living together.

And I have two ideas to how this went down... Either Iruka prepared the extra bedroom for Naruto in secret around the time he entered in the academy as a present or celebration or... Iruka finally got tired of sleeping in the sofa everytime Sasuke and Sakura came over and took over his bed. (Because team 7 has sleepovers at each others’ places like weekly)

Itachi is here, yeah! I have some future plans for the rest of the Akatsuki and some Uchihas, but for now basically there was no Uchiha massacre. Many of them died in the previous war fighting for the village which gave them a pretty good reputation.

Also the clan is not so big that they need a whole neighborhood just for them, though they all still live pretty close together, and Sasuke’s parents still died around that same time, leaving just the two brothers.

The house was almost a little too perfect, if anyone asked Iruka. Three bedrooms, an office, two and a half bathrooms, in his price range, and close to his and Naruto’s new school. The backyard was fenced, the front was small, there was a driveway he could park in if he ever bought a car, and the inspector hadn’t found any issues.

But it was pink. All of it. The outside, the inside, the bathrooms, even the roof was pink! If Iruka hadn’t been so desperate to get away from Mizuki he might have stopped to consider if it was wise to move somewhere he couldn’t afford to redo, not while he was on a teacher’s salary. It was too late to go back, and the obnoxiously pink house was millions of times better than Mizuki’s house.

It certainly said something about how bad things had been that Naruto hadn’t said anything about the color. When Anko had promised that they’d paint his bedroom orange he’d only grinned, then gone into the back yard. They’d let him be; it was a lot for an eight year old to deal with. Anko had left, and Iruka was debating between takeout or instant ramen when he heard a shout.

“Dad, there’s a dog!!”

Iruka had been running to the back door as soon as Naruto had yelled. Another voice joined in the yelling: “Bisuke, no!” And Iruka stumbled over his feet, heart in his throat.

There was a gray-haired man trying to haul away a rather mud-covered dog from where it was enthusiastically licking a giggling Naruto in the backyard. As Iruka watched, the dog slipped out of the man’s grip again, all but tackling Naruto. If Naruto hadn’t been so delighted, Iruka might have freaked out. Still, seeing a stranger so close to his son made him wary.

“Can I help you?” Iruka asked, trying not to grin at the way the other man jumped.

“Shit. Uh. I mean… sorry,” the man mumbled, and when he turned to face Iruka, he couldn’t help but stare. The bottom of his face was covered in a black medical mask, and there was an eyepatch over his left eye. “Bisuke got out, and he usually comes over here when he does. I didn’t know anyone had moved in, this place has been empty for ages.”

The man looked so viscerally uncomfortable that Iruka felt sorry for him, just a little. “How did you get in? And I can imagine, not many people want to move into a pink house,” Iruka eyed the fence with a critical eye before offering the man a smile.

“I climbed. And at least the entire place isn’t bright green,” the man said, sounding so serious that Iruka had to laugh, losing more tension.

“I think I might have preferred bright green.”

The man’s one visible eye went wide. “Oh no. Don’t say that. My roommate might hear you, and he’d happily repaint everything for you. He might even pay you for the privilege. And then I’d be stuck living next to the bright green house instead of the pink house.”

There was no way Iruka could hold back his guffaw at that. From the way the man’s chest seemed to puff up, Iruka could guess that it had been intentional. When was the last time a stranger had tried to make him laugh?

“Umino Iruka, and that’s my son, Naruto,” Iruka offered once he’d calmed down.

“Ah, nice to meet you. That rascal,” the man motioned to the dog, who was now tugging on a stick Naruto had found, “is Bisuke. I’m Hatake Kakashi. I’d say welcome to the neighborhood, but this isn’t much of a welcome party.”

“Mm, no, I guess not. Maybe my welcome party can be painting the house green?”

DOGS COME IN PACKS: Iruka asks Mizuki his opinion on team 7 and Mizuki jokes about them being an "odd group of famished dogs". They don't know that Kakashi overheard the conversation or that he finds appropriate that the Hokage assigned the hungriest stray dog around to teach these lost pups.

SISYPHUS OF THE FIRE: Obito survived the rock that almost ended his life, but it feels like he has a million more to roll up the mountain. Or Obito awakens his Mangekyou Sharingan when he mistakenly kills Rin, briefly adopts Naruto after Minato dies, takes the place of Itachi on the Uchiha Massacre, and his life somehow keeps getting worst (or better??).

GENIN KONOHA 12 — SPECIAL CLASSES! : The next generation of Konoha's clan leaders are thrown into a special training schedule. Three of them will follow a different sensei each afternoon, four days per week, to learn one of the skills that will turn them into great ninjas (hopefully). Or they could be stuck with two members of other teams while they try to survive whatever craziness their sensei has planned for the day (plus special guests !!).

Hot For Teacher AU

Naruto makes his first friend in his new class after one of the other kids is making fun of him for being adopted and Shikamaru, who is only in the class because his mother thinks it would be bad for his social development to skip so many grades and doesn’t want to put that much effort in anyway, is attempting to become one with his desk but can’t because of the noise helpfully pops his head up and informs everyone that adoption requires far more steps than making a baby so statistically Naruto is the only one that knows his dad wanted him enough to jump through those hoops incidentally making like half the class cry.

Iruka comes in to see a class full of crying children, an exhausted Shikamaru, and Naruto clinging to him like a particularly orange barnacle. He immediately wishes he had found a sun for the day.

Naruto the Ramen Man

This is an au idea that has been rattling around my brain long enough that I had to drop it here or risk swelling from it bouncing off my grey matter like a ping pong ball.

In another universe, Teuchi is actually the first good connection that Naruto has. In that universe, after leaving the orphanage, Teuchi takes Naruto in and begins teaching him the family trade, even offering him the his last name Rachi, which Naruto happily accepts becoming Naruto Uzumaki Rachi. Iruka comes into play earlier here as he sees Naurto behind the counter and goes through his little crisis over the nine-tails. Therefore, by the night of the Uchiha Massacre, Naruto has a makeshift little family. Afterward, Iruka and Teuchi are scared, and Iruka, having the ear of the Hokage, knows a very minimal bit about what this all means but homes in on the idea brought up that Naruto should begin his training as a Ninja earlier now that Konoha is missing a major power. Horrified, Iruka goes to Teuchi and with Ayame come to the decision to make Naruto disappear.

In the chaos the Massacre creates, Iruka is able to slip in and fudge the paperwork with no one the wiser, changing them to show that "Naruto" was staying with another family. Thus some other blue-eyed blond-haired kid "becomes" the Jinchuuriki. Even the name Naruto is easily forgotten as the only ones at this point that know his name outside the family are really just Kakashi and the Hokage. To the rest he is just he Jinchuuriki.

Anyway, the paperwork gives them time to sneak Naruto out, who is more than happy to comply as rather than a ninja, he dreams of being the greatest (ramen) chef. Teuchi leaves Ichiraku to Ayame and takes Naruto out of Konoha to the capitol of the Land of Fire. There he sets up another restaurant but focuses on trying to gain enough renown and following to make it into the Daimyo's favor and court.

At this point I'm not quite sure what happens. I think that maybe Teuchi gains favor but not enough to serve in the Daimyo's court and Naruto makes it his dream to someday serve food there as the favored chef. In Konoha, I think that Iruka is playing 3d shogi with the paperwork, and managing the human element best he can. He successfully 'frames' some other kid as the Jinchuuriki, which he feels bad about, but this kid already has a support system and Iruka looks after them as well. Ayame takes over Ichiraku and it continues to grow. Once a year or so, she hires Iruka for a C-rank to escort her to the Capitol to visit her 'aging father.'

I was thinking that maybe Asuma would have met Teuchi in the Capitol, but they would likely have just missed each other as he returned to Konoha following the massacre. To clarify, the paperwork shogi only works because Teuchi has kept Naurto away from the masses and only the old orphanage director would probably know the difference. I also think Teuchi stepped in before Naruto was given the apartment and the Hokage became more involved with his life. So the police have all these files on the Naruto Situation, but otherwise it isn't really public knowledge. So Iruka can easily slip in and alter the files to say another family took in Naruto and Teuchi is only noted as being a favorite vendor who occasionally feeds him for free. Iruka can also remove his name from the file completely.

I know that this whole situation is still percarious though, and that the minute Kakashi or the Hokage actually look at the kid they will know whats up. It would be interesting though, if the Hokage doesn't actually see 'Naruto' for years though and prefers to speak with the parents. He goes to them and explains the barest bit of the situation, gives them a stipend and leaves, feeling a bit sad that 'Naruto' agreed to change his name. On the flip side, the couple have a very concerning/confusing conversation with the Hokage followed by a more comforting conversation with one academy teacher who has been minding their son. The son is adopted so the name change isn't worth questioning. So some kid is just living a slightly outcast life but still thriving due to his loving family and teacher.

When Kakashi eventually leaves ANBU, that's when things really start going to shit. Once he finally manages to surface a bit from his depression (to an extent) he takes one look at the kid and goes "that's not Minato's kid what the fuck." Cue him absolutely tearing ROOT apart in his search for Naruto and coming out the other side going, "oh ok so the Hokage isn't stupid he just doesn't care. alright." He seriously considers assassination attempt #2 but doesn't know who else could take over. So after basically tearing Konoha a new asshole and leaving the Hokage to deal with the upset and Danzo, he 'requests' to visit Jiraiya in heavily implied language as he is sure the Hokage must have sent him there to be protected. (A solid plan worthy of a Kage and Kakashi isn't happy he wasn't in the know but whatever)

So Kakashi finds Jiraiya and basically has a minor panic attack when he realizes that Naruto isn't there either. I think this also might be the point where he starts to try connecting the dots on the idea that the Hokage isn't actually aware that the 'Jinchuuriki' isn't actually Naruto. So he bolts back to Konoha after a spectacularly awkward conversation with Jiraiya -- who is exceedingly confused about the whole encounter and just glad to be in one piece afterward -- and Kakashi starts digging into the paperwork. Iruka is immediately on his ass, traking what he knows and trying to figure out why Kakashi would be interested in Naruto. The two play a high-stakes cat-and-mouse game via paperwork until Iruka starts to realize all that Kakashi has done to try and find Naruto and realizes that it wasn't at the Hokage's behest.

So Iruka actually makes contact with with Kakashi, realizing that he could be an ally rather than the ruin of everything. Slowly Iruka learns the concerns Kakashi has about Naruto's safety and the valid political concerns of a Jinchuuriki-less hidden village. (I'm not saying they scheme to kidnap someone from another village but it'd be funny if Iruka got Gaara and the villages played musical Jinchuuriki, acutally managing to put most of them in better situations. And confusing the hell out of the Akutsuki.) Iruka melts like butter at the genuine care Kakashi seems to have for his sensei's son even if he hasn't been around until now. Kakashi gets close enough that Iruka tells Ayame to request Kakashi for her annual trip to the capitol. Ayame is a customer service master and can lie with the best of them and is able to play it off as a crush on the new ninja seen about town (since Kakashi was basically a non-entity before now). Kakashi takes the mission at Iruka's insistence, and brings Kakashi to meet Naruto. Though I'm 100% sure Iruka chakra seals/barrier seals the hell out of Kakashi before the big reveal.

If Iruka has played his cards right, then he is able to imply that this is all done on the Hokage's orders and Kakashi accepts it because that makes way more sense than a Chuunin and two Ramen Chefs being able to pull one over on the Hokage. Iruka also implies that Kakashi has been brought into the 'op' and thus Kakashi becomes Naruto's new big brother as he is apparently a 'ninja chef' that started working with Ayame at Ichiraku. Iruka might also imply that Naruto can know about his parents and Kakashi fucking clams up and flees. He does come back a year later though as a part fo the 'op' and actually tells Naruto about Minato and Kushina. He doesn't mention the 4th Hokage thing and never the nine-tails thing as they are village secrets (though Naruto has been aware of his 'passenger' for years by now).

Naruto obviously thinks a ninja chef is the coolest thing he's ever heard of and wants Kakashi to teach him. Kakashi 'understands' this to be his part of the 'op' and teaches him some basic chakra control exercises as well as leaving some basic fuuinjutsu scrolls. He is called to the Capitol again within a week because the Daimyo is convinced an enemy ninja has been terrorizing the town. Its really just Naruto attempting too much fuuninjutsu. Kakashi sits him down for a serious talk about limits and then tracks down an actual enemy agent to present to the Daimyo.

Throughout the following year, Kakashi takes a lot of missions in or passing though or by the capitol. This has the unexpected side effect of the Daimyo taking a shine to him and the Hokage more seriously working to develop him as the successor. I like to think the whole charade/comedy of errors (via iruka) ends with Kakashi watching the Hokage finally realize that the 'Jinchuuriki' in Konoha is a fake and internally panicking only for Kakashi to be like 'wait what about the op?' and casually explain Naruto's location and 'progress' with chakra and fuuinjutsu. And Hiruzen who has executed Danzo at this point and watched Kakashi single-handedly find the unknowingly lost Jinchuuriki and lay sweeping change to Konoha via the Daimyo's ear and ANBU contacts, just quits on the spot going "ah you have passed the test" and then fucking off leaving Kakashi with the hat. Like a week later I like to think that Tsunade fucking punts Jiraiya through the office door and demands to know what the hell is going on that Jiraiya is panicking over Naruto being missing/dead, only for Kakashi to go "oh thank goodness" frisbee the hat onto her head and dip.

500 miles to the Capitol and closing: a pissed and embarrassed Kakashi followed by a livid Tsunade, followed by a concerned Jiraiya, followed by an exhausted Tenzou seriously considering resignation

Iruka in the capitol, cheeks puffed like a chipmunk with ramen: why do i hear boss music?

Kakashi see’s a child dressed up as an ‘alien’ and is both intriqued and down right insulted. Did you see his skin? It was grey. GREY! What kind of aliens does he think exist!?

Gai didn’t realize he would need to warn these two about halloween, and now he’s debating if he should give them the costumes he picked out for them. He does it anyways and it’s… interesting

Kakashi argued saying this isn’t his stlye, but ultimatly gives in and wears the scarecrow costume and OWNS it. Some people even mistake him for a real scarecrow cuz he stands outside the house holding himself completly still with the bowl of candy in front of him. He only moves when the kids come up to grab candy and scares the absolute shit out of half of them XD

Yamato’s more of a fight but Kakashi and Gai team up to wrestle him into his costume. He’s a tree and he hates everything about his costume but when Iruka shows up with his cute little adopted son Naruto he immediately decides he loves it because Iruka complimented it

the girl and the demon - inuyasha crossover! kagome is reborn into the naruto world and promptly adopts naruto as her younger brother bc she thinks he's half-demon. misunderstandings and found family ensue.

a sort of double-date - sasunaru and iruka/yamato oneshot. iruka has a date with yamato and naruto wants it to go PERFECT. sasuke is dragged along.

the snake in her skin - magic AU, tayuya/temari oneshot. there is a demon in temari's brother and she wants help from the witch. i know it sounds nuts but i love this one so much mwah.

So I have about a thousand terrible fanfic ideas, most of which will probably never see the light of day. I have one for Naruto that visually appears to go AU between the "Search for Tsunade" and "Sasuke Recovery Mission" arcs, but once you actually get into the meat of it, actually diverged from canon during the Third War. Various spoilers for canon below!!!

Basically, the whole "Sasuke leaving the village" plotline gets derailed before it can even properly get momentum (to clarify: he never leaves because Things Happen) going because practically as soon as Tsunade becomes Hokage, maybe during a modified version of "Land of Tea Escort Mission", two nominally-civilian-ish chakra users from a family that hails from Whirlpool Country show up requesting asylum, offering to enlist as Konoha shinobi in order to earn their keep, and things just sort of go topsy turvy.

One is named Umino Akira, and she is the younger sister of Iruka-sensei's father (she's about forty). She has been desperately trying to get reunited with her nephew for years, but because she was one of the ringleaders of a mass exodus of bloodlimit clans and other people in Kiri who were in danger of execution over fifteen years before, and as such was listed as a missing-nin for years until they gave up / assumed she was dead / Mei became Mizukage, her request was repeatedly denied even though the civilian members of the clan were allowed to move to the Fire Country capital in exchange for Iruka's parents serving as Konoha shinobi. She's a medic nin, but keeping a few other secrets (most of which are highly unlikely to bite anyone in Konoha in the butt, so Tsunade says yes to letting her in when Iruka vouches for her and the other member of her party).

The other person traveling with her is her vaguely-mid-twenties adoptive son, who she found nearly dead on a battlefield during the war, took in as her apprentice after saving his life, and later adopted after it became clear that even though the brain injury he incurred healed well enough that he has little to no loss of overall function... he has a degree of retrograde amnesia and he is unlikely to remember enough of his childhood to go back to his previous life (because he doesn't even know for sure what country he's from originally). He is a seal specialist, and his name is Umino Tobi. Yes, that Tobi. Iruka's Auntie got to him before Madara in this universe. :) And then, you know, Shenanigans Happen.

Also, this world's Naruto was raised by a series of ANBU nannies, and then moved in with Iruka and Anko after graduating (yes I ship Iruka and Anko, shut up they're cute). And after the Uchiha Massacre, Sasuke was taken in by a civilian friend of his parents who runs an omurice stand near the Hokage's office (she actually served as a genin until she quit/retired at sixteen to take an apprenticeship as a cook, and she's secretly Fugaku's bastard half sister... Fugaku's parents were an arranged marriage that happened after she was already born, and Fugaku's and Kaori's mothers were close friends with no bad blood between them).

Also also, Rin survived in this universe, but she works exclusively in the hospital and doesn't take out-of-village missions any more and doesn't appear in Bingo books as a result, so everyone in Kiri thinks she's dead even though she isn't. She's still a Jinchuriki, but hardly anyone knows because Kiri doesn't want to admit they misplaced an entire Biju. She was Naruto's pediatrician because he's Sensei's kid.

And as you can probably tell, anytime what I want contradicts canon, I just go "uh huh, that's the official propaganda story, here's what's really going on". So yeah, Thinky Thoughts that probably won't get turned into a real fic, but maybe they will.

Time travel AU where someone adopts kid Iruka after his parents die so that he grows up to adopt Naruto because he learned the pain of being alone and not having a family can be soothed by people who aren't of your blood and even though he's still a little hung up about the fox he learns to have a deep compassion for a boy placed in a horrible situation like he was and while he doesn't forgive the kyuubi he does come to understand his rage and how he did it against his will because he can directly communicate with him through Naruto
