Personally, I think it’s crazy to be from a state that seceded from the confederacy to join the union and wear the confederate flag. Almost as crazy as “coming from a long line of coal miners” and being anti-union.

I’m so tired of seeing constant criticisms of dark romance and dark romance love interests. Just enjoy what you enjoy and let others enjoy what they enjoy. Like some of y’all are so cruel and mean for no reason to people who are just minding their own business.

Okay so today I finally watched the Miraculous Ladybug & Cat Noir Movie and one thing I really have to say is… I am SO ANGRY THAT I NEVER WATCHED IT IN THE CINEMA, BECAUSE HOOOLY SHIT!
Like I am so freaking late for that, since this movie came out a while ago, but I just watched it and I'm literally so shocked, because I LOVED IT!
I can't believe that I've been watching Miraculous since I was a kid. We got 6 damn seasons of this show. We got bunch of specials. AND THIS ONE MOVIE DID EVERYTHING BETTER. IT FREAKING FIXED THE DAMN STORY. FIXED THE MOST BROKEN STORY POSSIBLE GOD DAMMIT!!!
Thomas freaking Astruc. What the hell did you say back there? "The movie gives you what you want. The show gives you want you need"? WELL SCREW YOU. I DO NOT NEED YOUR MESSY SHOW AFTER WATCHING THIS MASTERPIECE.
So what did I love about the movie:
Marinette being an actually likeable character. Her having struggles, her having development from being this scared, bullied girl, to the amazing superhero who can stand up for herself and people around her. Marinette who's not being a stalker. Marinette who even if nervous, can talk like an actual human being to the boy she likes. Marinette who can be funny and kinda mean (that scene when she tried to get rid of Tikki was literally so funny lmao). Watching this movie reminded me why I loved Marinette so much on the beginning of Miraculous Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir. That's the girl I related to back then!!
Adrien not being perfect, having struggles and real emotions after his mother's death. Him actually acting depressed and being kind of a loner made literal sense. Also him kinda acting like an asshole after becoming Cat Noir for the first time?? Honestly I loved it. What I loved even more was him not being afraid of sneaking out from his house and not being afraid of telling Gabriel off. I LOVE ADRIEN STANDING UP FOR HIMSELF! I LOVE SEEING HIM FRUSTRATED AND ANGRY,
Gabriel being an actual sympathetic villain. I liked that as a Hawkmoth he was kinda goofy (with that one song), but he was also serious about the whole thing. It was visible that he was depressed as heck and he really wanted to bring his wife back. And he did care about Adrien, the most important thing that the show FUCKED UP. Was he perfect in the movie? No. Was he a good support to Adrien? No. But I could sympathize with him, because the movie showed us why he is like that. The movie showed us how much he suffers and how depressed he is. But he wasn't cruel to Adrien. He wasn't abusive to him like Gabriel from the show is. He wasn't locking him up. He wasn't controlling his every move (sentimonster go brrr). HE DIDN'T FUCKING BEAT HIM UP OR AKUMATIZE HIM AFTER HE FOUND OUT THAT ADRIEN IS CAT NOIR. He was a depressed man who then started spiralling after becoming Hawkmoth (I loved seeing that change) and who cried and apologized to Adrien after he found out that he is Cat Noir. Not to mention, if I understand correctly, he did face the consequences for his actions (getting arrested).
the dynamics between the main protagonists??? LOVED THEM. They looked natural, they weren't toxic like in the show. I loved that Marinette was at first nervous around Adrien, but then their relationship grew and they literally talked normally without any problems. And I loved Ladybug and Cat Noir's relationship too. It started with difficulties, with Cat Noir being an asshole and all, but it developed into innocent teasing between two partners who were always ready to support each other and save the Paris together. Also it's a small thing, but I loved Marinette's parents and the bond of their family? It was super adorable!
okay I don't know if it's just me, but honestly I loved seeing both Ladybug and Cat Noir get hurt during the battles. I liked it, because it added more drama, more emotions. It showed that even with superpowers, those two are not invincible. That the danger they face is REAL. That loosing the Miraculous is not their only worry, but also loosing their lives. They weren't afraid of showing something more dark and I LOVED IT. The main show would never-
the final battle with Gabriel is literally what I always wanted from the show. BOTH Ladybug and Cat Noir being there, having difficulties, being on loosing postions, detransforming and revealing their identities, being in danger, wHOLE PARIS IS BURNING!! THAT'S IT!! THAT'S THE SHIT I ALWAYS WANTED. I also loved that their special powers appeared on the end of the movie. For some reason I really liked it.
I could probably yap more about it, but I just don't know what else to say. After all those season of the tv show, all those specials, the movie gave me everything I always wanted when it comes to Miraculous. That's the story I always wanted to see. And I'm just so happy with it, because it's GOOD. I can't believe I was watching a Miraculous thing and I was smilling from excitment all the time. I was actually freaking amazed and curious and feeling emotions I've NEVER felt while watching the main show!! Honestly my only complaint about this movie is that it has singing in it, but it's my subjective opinion. I'm just really not fond of musicals. Oh and also the farting scene with Plagg. Yeah, not a fan of farting jokes-
Other than that? MWAH, absolutely amazing movie. OH WHY, OH WHY I DIDN'T WATCH IT IN THE CINEMA-

Here is a drawing of one of my favourite changes in choreography in the Australian deh production :)
During Good For You, after Alana and Jared have their little solos, Alana comes to the front of the stage and crouches down with her hands over her head, completely still. At the same time, Jared goes upstage and paces back and forth very quickly - every time he has to turn around he makes stilted and frustrated gestures as if he doesn’t know what to do with himself. I was very excited by this, as it is so unlike the broadway version of this scene where they stand symmetrically on opposite sides of the stage. Instead, Alana and Jared’s reaction to their feelings are clearly contrasted against each other. It seemed so natural too; while they move in formation for a lot of gfy, here it was like they had to take a break from the song because of how overwhelmed they were! Which only made it easier to empathise with them. The whole song was spectacular of course but this particular decision I think was very successful. I have always been intrigued by the contrast between Alana and Jared and it was really brought to the forefront in this moment.

for example if elena wrote about the men who are interested in her with the same enchantment she graces lila's love interests with, you'd end up at the exact same place. she knows what it's like to be amazed by lila herself so it's easy to project the feeling onto someone else.

won't say much abt it but i definitely am a bit disappointed in regards to the limited world state options, i get that theres not much we can do about it at this point- but admittedly it has very weird implications for lore, because for example who became divine affects what happened to circles, who drank from the well determines who's linked with mythal etc etc
but on the flip side im just trying to look for any positives like at least we got a da4 to begin with 😭could you imagine if this was still live service with microtransactions

One thing I find irritating about modern society where I'm from
Is that the people who allegedly have "empathy", are evil.
Bold claim but hear me out on my reasoning
The empathy people will throw words at others like "ableist" "racist" "sexist" like a death sentence and then bristle if you ask them how or wtf that means.
"If you say Adhd is not a disability, you're abelist."
"Wait what? How?"
"Educate yourself"/"I don't owe you my emotional labor"
What????? Where's your empathy?
Allegedly its in the "you're ableist" statement but I dont really see it.
Performative empathy. These annoying people want any excuse to bludgeon people with their righteous hammer.
If they cared about the people they fought for, they would disseminate proper information they they wish people already knew.
Think about it. What does using harsh words against any questions do? It silences the conversation. Now nobody wants to ask or learn because they're afraid. They're not gaining knowledge to connect with others. They're learning to camouflage so you don't see them.
Thank you for starting the Squid Game. Great. I'm not sure about this because I don't feel feelings, but I'm pretty sure "empathy" isn't meant to be a guillotine. Empathy isn't a weapon. So how dare these people claim to have "empathy"?
Do you really think that just because it's a feeling, we can't verify if you truly are empathetic or not? It shows in your actions.
#this actually ties into the selfishness epidemic here#i dont owe you any-- you do. its the rent you pay for reaping the rewards of civilized society#you need to pull your weight to make sure the trust is still there in this trust based society before the structure crumbles#and you have nothing to take home other than loneliness#which is exactly whats happening here right now#you owe it to yourself to maintain upkeep of a system that benefits you. for your benefit#avo but i dont owe helping my neighbors i dont even go outside. you order doordash dawg. thats a benefit of a trust based society#im not saying go outside and martyr yourself and talk to 1000 people.#just indulge the thought: i could do this and it will make my/their/our experience better#and dont perform empathy. do empathy. my personal annoyance#stop being so fucking afraid of talking to people. dont initiate the convo if you dont want to talk#'statement 1'. 'clarifying statement 1'. 'fuck you i dont owe you anything'. BITCH#you beat me with your 'empathy' ill beat you with a rock. lets see which weighs heavier#true empathy is fostering connection.#but avo what about people who cant contribute. their worth shouldnt depend on it#tfym. what is the cost of giving a thumbs up to someone. tipping a dollar. picking up dropped groceries. or leaving your trashbins aligned#watch me. im a very people person (compared to the rest of my kind)#i personally. sit down and talk to people will all sorts of ideas and views not to convert but to see from their eyes#my capacity to execute this is VERY low. so yk the small things i do to maintain upkeep of society?#smile at a kid. bring back an item for a friend from a store. put my neighbors trash out when i put mine#you can also take this a lower level. align your trash so its easy for the garbage truck driver to empty it out without getting out.#or even a lower level. use state funded public services that depend on amount of users. like library. check out an ebook from home. easy#idk man just get creative

you don’t have to answer this ask but wow how are you supposed to be the bad guy fucking apologizing for reacting badly to being told to kill yourself?? i hate this website
well okay hold up i never said i was the bad guy. i said there were misunderstandings on both sides and that i was sorry for an issue in one part of how i handled it. just one.
#ask tag#not counting#like um. i do understand that maybe this person's sense of humor is way different then mine okay#but like. they said that they didn't mean it legitimately and once they saw it was haarmful they apologized#for me to say ''i am glad i understand your side of the story and you understand mine'' i am not saying i'm the bad guy#there's really no ''bad guy'' in this situation as i see it because the world is more nuanced then that y'know#like. sometimes people have a sense of humor that you can't pick up on. it doesn't mean you shouldn't state your point of view#and say ''that wasn't how i want people to talk to me and i also won't let you do that''#also the only part i really ''apologized'' for was that i used a term for them that was uncomfortable#i assume for gender reasons. and i understand where that comes from. if someone called me ''girl'' while arguing i wouldn't like it#whenever i said sorry after that i did my best to try and word it in a way like ''i am sorry this happened but it's not my fault''#like how when. idk. someone's grandma dies and you say ''sorry for your loss'' you're not saying that you killed their grandma#you're just saying that you feel bad that the thing happened but not that it's your fault#and yes. i do agree that the situation may have been fixed if they just said it was a joke but hindsight is 20/20 right?#anyways. that's my take on the situation.#and like. idk. if they apologized and told me how they saw it. i'm gonna believe them because i have had WAY more malicious people here#like idk. there have been anons who have said wayy worse and there's no discernable reason for why they would#like that one anon who told me that i should get my arms chopped off or something. idk. i deleted it before i could commit it to memory#and that was on purpose#but like. my point is. there's worse people. and if i focus all of my energy about being mad over a person who made one joke in bad taste#idk just seems like a waste of time#at least that's my perspective on the situation. never said i was the bad guy. just sorry it happened#also sorry it happened so late at night for me! i need an ibuprofen and a bagel now

Good morning and thank you for the picture of the bee! I didn't know anything about carpenter bees, but they are quite interesting.
Structuring the posts is probably a good idea. So I'll start with some minor comments, then there's the main section about money creation, and lastly a brief note about money-as-power.
Minor comments
You see both check and cheque in NZ. For that sort of word, I think generally older people use the British spelling and older people the American spelling. Though it's sort of a moot point, since they've pretty much entirely disappeared in the last few years.
A note about small transactions: I can definitely see that it'd be difficult to get the police to go after someone for stealing a small amount. My disagreement is that I don't think this makes sense as a cause of inflation. I doubt any firm (or whoever sets the prices) has thought, "Oh, there's a lot of money around nowadays. The government won't be able to enforce the value of all of it. I'd better raise prices." Possibly it works as an abstract interpretation of what inflation represents, like a sort of metaphor. But then we get into very philosophical questions about how theories relate to the world.
Money creation
I'm not really sure if you don't understand how commercial banks create (non-physical) money or if you do understand the process but just view it differently, so I'll try to cover both possibilities.
Say Alice, Bob, and Carol all have an (at the moment) empty bank account with the same bank. The government prints $100 and gives it to Alice (I suppose she works for the government). She deposits the $100 in the bank, so the bank records $100 in Alice's account. The bank might then loan Bob $50, which it does by just recording in its ledgers that Bob has $50 in his account and owes the bank $50 at a later point in time. Alice and Bob then buy goods from Carol, which costs them all their money. The bank records that Carol has $150 and Alice and Bob have $0 each.
The crucial step for commercial bank money creation is the loan to Bob. When a bank lends, it just declares that the borrower has however much money in their account. They need to have enough currency in their possession to allow for withdrawals, but beyond that the sum of demand deposits is not limited by currency. That's how money is created.
I think you probably view the extra $50 as fake? I argue that a definition of money where that's the case is suboptimal* because (1) people can actually spend it to buy goods and services (favours if you want to be an engineer about it), (2) they can do this simultaneously (without the extra $50 being backed by an extra $50 of currency), and (3) it comprises the majority of money in our economies and is the way in which most transactions take place** (and the definition of money ought to recognise how transactions actually occur).
*I think definitions can't really be false, but they can be worse in various ways.
**It might differ in the US, but I don't even remember the last time that I used cash.
There is a sense in which the money is in a superposition of states that might collapse (or something; I don't know physics), but that is specifically if Alice and Bob want to convert their money into currency. As long as they're happy to keep it in a demand deposit, it's all fine. (And I wouldn't characterise money in a bank account as being unobserved, since it can still be spent, as above.)
Summarising, my contention is that:
Banks create more demand deposits than the amount of currency that exists.
Even when multiple people's money 'comes from' the same currency, they can still spend all of that money.
Because this money can be spent, it is 'real' money.
So not all 'real' money is created by the government.
Last bit
I think also I might've been conflating your theories about power/money and those about where money comes from. I don't have much of a specific disagreement with the former, but I have a technical disagreement (or maybe it's just semantics) with the latter. There is some connection between the two, but I don't think they're the same. You can still understand money as power without asserting it is all created by the government.
It's so weird to me when people are like 'but that will cost the government money!' So what? They're the government, they're supposed to be spending money. What, you want them to take your tax dollars and then do nothing with it? Lock it all up in a big government vault and just look at it? Why are you so scared of giving a third grader lunch or a homeless person a house.

Okay, so, at risk of revealing myself as a person who Knows Things about books & writing (this is a joke, I am a writer) it's actually incredibly accurate to say that booktok users don't actually read, because most of them... don't.
when they aren't combing through books specifically for porn & literally only porn (not because porn is bad, but writing/reading only for a single trope is) they use books as decorations in tiktoks. for the aesthetic. they're influencers, not readers. the buy books in bulk & show them off in tiktoks & then stick them on a shelf to collect dust, unless they're dark romance with "spice" then it gets 5 stars on goodreads for no reason.
they don't do analyzing. they just consume. they're the shein haulers of reading. they like things that look cool & that's about it.
I could go on about how this fanfic-ification of original books & push towards consumerism rather than enjoyment is genuinely negatively effecting publishing, authors, & reading as a hobby by causing books with sex scenes & dark romance to publish & sell way more than books without, the ones originally written without that being forced to add these subplots & scenes out of fear of not selling, but then I'd be here all day (& probably get shit for "being a puritan," again, not calling porn inherently evil here guys don't @ me) & I'd actually have to write all that out, so instead I'll just link this very good video by alisha not alihsha on youtube.
