He’s honesty a menace cuz he’s huge and he used it to his advantage. Like if you’re not cuddling him or giving him attention when he’s clingy, then he’ll put something of yours somewhere you can’t reach. 

He’d also back hug you and have his chin in your head, just towering over you. He finds the size difference so adorable. Nagi also hold you close when your cuddling. You’re like a cute stuffed animal to him when you cuddle. 

When you guys to carnivals or arcades he’ll literally win you the biggest plushie known to man just to see you struggle carrying it. Like it’s ginormous and you’re literally waddling to hold it properly and walk. 

Also if you annoy him, he’ll pick you up and throw you over his shoulders. He won’t put you down unless you give in. He finds your whiny voice so funny. He just carries you around the house like that lol. Anyways I love him too<3

He thinks you’re the cutest person known to humankind. He loves the height difference sooooo much. He’s always clinging to you like a big dog that acts like they’re tiny. I bet he also loves to kiss you everywhere in your face and makes fun of you when you can’t reach him to give him a kiss. 

He loves to cuddle you alot and spoon you. Just having you in his arms is so comfortable. He also finds it funny when you try to be the big spoon. Like, you literally can’t cover any of him while he basically traps you. 

Anyways, he lowkey likes to pin you against a wall or a bed when you kiss. His hands will travel everyday, your waist, stomach, shoulders, you name it. He finds it sensual and enjoys your little whines and whimpers if he starts to kiss your neck and collarbones.

you rambled on loudly to your boyfriend as he listened to you with immense interest. it didn't matter how loud you were or how much you had to say, he was captivated by your stories, finding the way you express yourself funny and endearing.

"they remind me of someone," seonghwa mused to san as they both watched you both from the kitchen. "wooyoung?" san questioned before nodding at seonghwa, " oh yes, absolutely."

they heard your explosive laughter sound in reply to something hongjoong said and started laughing too. "should we tell him?" san asked seonghwa, clearly amused by the realisation they had made.

"no," seonghwa shook his head with a smile, "he'd go crazy."

you were known for being blunt and sarcastic when it came to your humour, which honestly confused seonghwa immensely especially in the early part of your relationship; he couldn't tell when you were being serious or joking.

it was only when he observed you and yeosang together did he realised that you had an extremely similar sense of humour to him.

"hey, is this drink for me?" seonghwa pointed to a cup of coffee on the counter. "no, it's for the dog," you said nonchalantly, not thinking too much about what you were saying. seonghwa blinked, "we don't have a dog."

yeosang snorted at seonghwa's reaction and patted him on the back, "i think they were just joking." to this, he laughed sheepishly, "yeah, haha i knew that, obviously..."

yunho

"wow," wooyoung remarked as he watched you dance, "your dance style is so similar to mingi's."

your boyfriend, yunho, had invited you to hang with the other members in their dance studio. you'd been interested in dance for a while now and knew a thing or two about how to move.

"mingi, go next to them and both of you do the same move," wooyoung ordered, suddenly very intrigued with the situation. both you and mingi seemed to add the same unique style, the same sort of flare to the move. yunho watched on, and he couldn't help but be jealous.

mingi watched both of your reflections and saw what wooyoung was talking about, "he's right you know," he smiled at you, "maybe we should make a duet together."

"if there's anyone y/n's going to be doing a duet with," yunho interrupted mingi and glared playfully, before wrapping a possessive arm around your waist, "shouldn't it be with her boyfriend?"

yeosang

yeosang laughed hysterically at your bold claim.

"y/n," yeosang snickered, "there is no way you could defeat me in an arm wrestle. and i mean that in the nicest way possible."

yeosang was very confident in his abilities, and you couldn't blame him. he was going to the gym more often and especially focusing on building muscle in his arms. and you were just as impressed as he was with his results.

but he was very quickly humbled.

when it came to the actual arm wrestle challenge, his confidence shrank as you very quickly beat him. his eyes grew wide in awe and confusion whilst you stayed silent and grinned in response.

"what the-" he whispered, not believing the situation. "have you been getting tips from jongho?"

san

san found a lot of positives in the fact that your personality was quite similar to his roommate, yunho's personality. but there were a few things that he didn't perhaps like.

"come on guys," he whined, "that's literally the 5th game we've lost. neither of you are trying."

because you liked playing video games too, san invited you to play with him and yunho. which backfired, tremendously.

you and yunho were definitely not taking the game seriously at all. both of you were in a state of delirium by how much you were laughing at your ridiculously bad and chaotic playing.

"we're just playing sannie~" you said cutely and gave him a little smooch on the cheek after seeing his pout grow. your competitive boyfriend was not impressed!

"do you really need to sleep with all these plushies?"

mingi laughed as he stared at your bed covered in different variations of plush toys and cuddly animals, alike.

"i have to hug something when i sleep, okay?" you confessed rather shyly, as you grabbed a blue dinosaur plush and held it to your chest. what you said reminded him of san, who had the same issue. he too said he felt more comfortable sleeping this way.

"well," mingi grabbed the plush toy from out of your hands and wrapped your arms around his waist, "now you have me to hug while you sleep." he grinned and kissed your cheek. "and i'm much bigger than a plushie! there's more of me to love~"

you giggled at his reply as your grip tightened around him, feeling very much loved.

"i'm pretty sure you have every david bowie album ever to be released, y/n. your collection is incredible."

hongjoong was flicking through your cd collection, clearly engrossed with delight. you and hongjoong had the same taste in music and a shared interest in pop icons and culture. this was something your boyfriend, wooyoung, did not share with you, and he was starting to get insecure about it.

he watched on with arms folded as he sunk back into the couch. there was nothing he could contribute to the conversation, and he started to feel left out.

"i'm going to head home," wooyoung called out, grabbing his coat and heading for the door. "why," you began to feel worried that you and hongjoong had neglected him from the conversation.

"no reason," he responded bluntly, "i'm sure you'll have fun without me."

jongho

as the maknae, jongho was simply used to being pampered and taken care of by the other members, especially by seonghwa. and not by choice. jongho is actually a very independent person who likes others relying on him, instead of the other way around.

but when it came to you, he didn't mind at all.

"have you got your lunch?" you asked as jongho was getting ready to leave. "yep," he smiled, patting his bag where his lunch. you went over to him to adjust his tie for him. meanwhile, seonghwa watched on, quite appalled and offended.

"hey! you don't like it when i help you with stuff," seonghwa complained accusingly at jongho, who didn't even look in his direction.

"yeah it's because you're annoying when you do it," jongho teased his older friend before giving you a kiss on the cheek as a thank you.

I've lost count to how many times I've seen/read this. AND I'LL DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN - "Cruel Angel" by @sessakag The horror and the smut is just soooo Sessakag-style. Like no one else could have possibly written this. Also I don't know who suggested "the world's ending and you're far from your love," but I thought the prompt sounded impossible, and you know what, Sessakag can write the impossible.

Had a bad day but seeing this made it better - "For Ruin and the World's Ending" by @badluckbrebis thank u for reposting this because it seems like I completely missed/forgot about this, it seemed new to me 😓 I love it so much, the description of their world is so vibrant, and yeah, an update from you makes life so much better 🥺💕 !!!

THIS IS WHAT TRUE LOVE LOOKS LIKE - @diyas-diaries-98 All of the short stories in "NaruHina Month 2023" are so cute and stars-in-their-eyes in love, but my fave is "Me in Your Eyes"!! The prompt is already a foundation for the fandom, but you took it to the next level in describing how they see each other🤩

THIS DESERVES TO BE SEEN BY ALL *shares work multiple times* - I have recommended @wickermayne's "Chicken Ramen for the Pervert's Soul" several times, and I will do it again!!! Actually I think "Hinata (Light Femdom)" is the first fic I read/commented on for you....anyway, I love, love, love it. Will always love it.

This is so silly. I LOVE IT! - "Things that Moan in the Night" is just....wow. honestly it was a toss-up between the cold shower and this bingo square, but in the end, it's a really fun smutty fic for me that's experimental in a way most smut fics aren't. I love the writing challenge of switching pov's, especially to 2nd pov.

It's not enough for me to see/read it. I NEED TO EAT IT TO BECOME A PART OF ME! - @lavvdil's "devouring you" for the beauty and the beast prompt!! Hinata's just gorgeous!! I would so love to write that kind of NaruHina, the Naruto who's so close to the demon itself, the Hinata who's so precious to the demon... reminds me of utsu's fic "Monster of the Tales". then @avbocetos's "Kiss the byakugan princess!" art is so, so lovely, the blank period/The Last NaruHina kiss is soooo passionate, and mmmmmm I want to write that so badly. That kind of heart-pounding kiss!

it's sooooo FLUFFY! - "My #1 Supporter" by shineofdawn, ohhh my gosh, so I'm already a sucker for pianist Hinata. But just the way shineofdawn was able to have Hinata's piano music be a support for badminton player Naruto, the connection is so wonderful 😭 and "Promise Rings" by @powerful-niya has gotta be the fluffiest thing Niya has ever written. It's sooo...ugh, love!!! They're in love and promising themselves to each other for forever and it's perfect!!!

FREE - @bornonthebreakofdawn's tanka for "Me in Your Eyes" prompt. I love born's poetry, but this one hit it out of the ballpark for me. In such few words, born touched on how sensitive Naruto must be in the way people look at him, and how different and special it must've been when he saw how Hinata looks at him. Something to ruminate on.

You've already left a kudos/like - @cherpring's "Marriage (Thai Culture)" art!!!! I love seeing NaruHina in different cultures, and then on top of that, this art has so many interesting details, the cushions (?), Naruto's pants, the flowers, their pins... I love their little blushes!!! Definitely one of my fave arts of this month.

I need a cold shower - "Another Baby" by Its_Levioooosaa got me invested, I loved how excited they were 😳 and "Dark Circles" by @bunny-hoodlum ahhhhhhh how exhausted but turned on Naruto was, like, yes, I love that energy!!!

IT WAS NOT FINE - What Is This Heartbreak in "Don't Deny Me" by Imanga 😭💔 "Oh, I can't handle angst" she says, "I don't know how you guys can read so much angst" she says. What a liar lol

OMG they replied to my comment!!! - So by far, the longest comment I left this month was for @nightowl27-writer's "Weird Hinata" because imo it was really just the tightest and most skillful writing all month. There was so much to analyze in every line, the relationship between them was so complex, nightowl developed their characters so well!!! I was so happy that nightowl read and replied to my comment 🙈

This fic is incomplete and I shall never rest again - "Free Day!" by @opttagoyeo was the one that got me in a chokehold. What does Kurama MEAN that Hinata might be one of them??? The other fics in "NH Month 2023" are great, too, but there's a little bit more of a closure for the "Red Strings of Fate" and "Time Travel." Priest!Naruto is like 2 more meetings away from seductress!Hinata pulling his pants down and giving him the time of his life, but also what is the mystery behind them??? I must know.

Why is this a one-shot? I need 6 seasons and a movie! - "A New Dawn" by madglow and "ready or not" by @secrettastemakerland, I am so impressed at how they crammed entire gigantic plots that could SERIOUSLY be 2 hour long movies into short fics. How. Just how did they do that. I'm left wanting more!! And also, I'm terribly jealous, like, I wish I could write my ideas that well. "A New Dawn" is the Akatsuki!NaruHina the fandom's been waiting for and "ready or not" AHHHH fox!Naruto!!!!! I just, love fox Naruto. So does Hinata.

How do I ask for an update without asking for an update? - Bunny!!!!! 11pm is a great time to start a 100k slow burn - I know Powerful_Niya's "Reckless Love" 2-shot probably isn't 100k, but it's definitely on the longer side of fics posted this month, and I did start reading it around 11:00. Anyway, delinquent!Naruto and angelic!Hinata are to-die-for in this fic. They are both down bad for each other and practically in denial about it!!

I don't think I'll be able to sleep well after that - @spaciousignatius posts NaruHina fanfics like...maaaybe once a year, and "Taken" is so terribly melancholy yet so worth the wait 😭 I love it and just hope that Naruto and/or Hinata somehow gets even against these military guys.

Wow, that might haunt me in my dreams - and I mean this in a good way. Just like born's tanka, @opal-chan's "Rage Room" got me thinking... on family, forgiveness, internalizing feelings versus externalization. Opal-chan does a fantastic job with portraying the Hyuuga clan in such a raw way.

Dasey:

when I started shipping it if I did: Oh, boy. That's a question, now isn't it? I low-key shipped them when I first found Dasey fanfiction waaaaaaay back in my undergrad (so, like 10-12 years ago?). But it was super low-key. I got BACK into Dasey majorly in the spring of 2021 and stumbled upon fanvids and fanfiction of them AGAIN and because I was laid up health-wise, I got obsessed.

my thoughts: I have a LOT of thoughts about Dasey???? I think they're fascinating characters and I adore them both as individuals and as a couple. I think their physical comedy (and by that I mean they're complete lack of personal space) is hilarious; and I think they have insane chemistry. I think Derek knows Casey better than anyone, and Casey gets Derek better than anyone; and I think they're both stupid and stubborn enough to never acknowledge that. I think they're far more alike than they are different, and I think I need to continue my rewatch of the show because I'm gonna end up writing an essay about them.

What makes me happy about them: I think it's how good of a team they can be. I've always been a BIG friends-to-lovers shipper, but even more than that, a "we're partners and i've got your back" shipper. And even though Derek and Casey TRY to pretend to they hate each other, we have sooooo much evidence of them being protective of the other, of them going out of their way to help the other (usually complaining the whole time, but c'mon), and of them kicking serious butt when they do work together. It just makes something inside me purr.

What makes me sad about them: THEY'RE KIDS IN AN AWFUL SITUATION and they don't FEEL like family, but everything in their lives are telling them they're supposed to be; but they CAN'T be, and if they TRY to be together, they might hurt their FAMILIES who they LOVE so MUCH; and I think you catch my drift.

things done in fanfic that annoys me: ...I really hate OOC-ness, but the MOST OOC-ness I hate is when people make Derek to be, like, abusive? Or completely inconsiderate of Casey's boundaries, and you get into non-con. I just... Nope.

things I look for in fanfic: EXCELLENT CHARACTERIZATION. Good bantering, that push-and-pull that they both have... I also think they have at least mildly kinky sex, and I support this.

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: Well, all of Casey's boyfriends SUCK except for Sam who is an excellent person but not good for her. And I'm pretty sure her husband in LWL isn't doing a good job either. So they'd have to create a WHOLE NEW CHARACTER for her--

I don't mind Derek/Sally, except I think they'd have to work things out as adults better. I dunno; the show purposely shows us that Derek and Casey are far more important to each other than any of their significant others (that's been stated by the creators, btw), so yeah. No one.

My happily ever after for them: THEY GET TOGETHER AND THE FAMILY ACCEPTS THEM AND THEY STAY TOGETHER FOR, LIKE, 60+ YEARS AND BICKER AND BANTER AND LOVE EACH OTHER THE WHOLE TIME and whether or not they have kids depends completely on their choices and Derek calms Casey's panic attacks, and Casey reminds Derek of his worth, and I cry.

who is the big spoon/little spoon: THEY. SWITCH. I think most of the time Derek is the big spoon because he's kinda sexist, no lie, but I think when he's having a bad day, he likes getting spooned. Casey likes being held, but she also likes holding him. So, uh... 80% of the time Derek is the big spoon.

what is their favorite non-sexual activity: Honestly, I think it's arguing. But in, like, a fun way? With bets and competition and teasing and flirting; I strongly believe that they would just have a lot of small arguments and that would keep the big fights small too. And Casey likes debating and Derek likes challenges.

Derek:

How I feel about this character: MY BLORBO???? I LOVE HIM??? HE'S SUCH A LITTLE SHIT; I ADORE HIM???

All the people I ship romantically with this character: Well. Casey, obviously. And to a certain extent, Sally.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: ...Derek&Lizzie. I know, I KNOW that Derek & Marti are like, gold, but I think his interactions with Lizzie are superb.

My unpopular opinion about this character: ...do I have one? I dunno. I have a lot of opinions about his relationship with his parents, but I wouldn't call them unpopular, more... me looking at things differently than some others do.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: I wish, in LWL, people (Genora) recognized how much he had grown. Just because a person likes to have fun and tease and passes off some of his responsibilities to people he knows will do them (see: Skyler and Casey, but they also ENJOY doing these tasks most of the time), doesn't make him immature. He was SUCH a good dad and was taking steps to improve Skyler's life, and maybe their lives weren't traditional, but she was healthy and loved and appreciated and he had raised her as best he could; and honestly, his relationship with Skyler was much better than his with George, I'm just saying. Derek is clever with a large heart, and I wish people in the show saw that more.

so to begin here's a picture of my nephew (yes it's a dog)

I am so excited for all my upcoming projects. right now, my focus is on finishing CS all the way. after I finish CS, I think I'm gonna go ahead and come out w HOT TO GO! (BRB x Reader) and then start regularly posting VV and SS again. I think I have my October schedule pinned down (like everything that's coming out) and that is so exciting! I can't wait to share w y'all!

I'm a working girl now!! I nanny 4 days a week!! it's lovely!! just one baby who's only 1!! and the parents work from home so I never have to stay late or anything!! it has been a bit of a challenge getting used to the schedule (but I thrive with schedules!) so that's why I've been a bit absent on here!!

still trying to get my house set up....living room has come a loooooong way, but my bedroom is suffering! hoping to work on it here and there! but my main priority is getting back into my regularly scheduled writing!! the living room def isn't completely done (have to finish my gallery walls!) and I wish the walls weren't white, but we're renting so! in all complete and utter seriousness, whenever I was coming out with a new chapter for my three stories every single week (and updating Landslide like every two days!) I was at my lowest point. I was like one nasty thought away from having a grippy sock vacation and holding onto anything that eased my Darkness--which was absolutely writing and sharing on here with everyone!

here's a pic of me when I was at one of my lowest points. I was in Chicago in the dead of winter with people I didn't know very well (it was still fun!) and had never felt more lost in my life. it also exactly coincided with my stories getting popular on here after my 200 follower celebration. like, I remember being on the train and checking my Tumblr every hour and always having 100+ notifications. I'll never forget how mind-boggling it was!! I went from 200 followers in early January to 2.8k now in late September. and I love you all SO much!!!

I'd like to think I look much happier now :-)

I kind of have a bf now and I'm sooooo embarrassed ab it. like. who breaks up with the person they thought they were gonna marry, gets back with their ex, and just stays w them??? me, I guess! no but I am actually happy. we're going to see CHAPPELL MF ROAN'S ALBUM RELEASE tomorrow and he's gonna wear a silk scarf and trim his mustache. I went to see The Last Voyage of the Demeter (Dracula horror movie) on Tuesday after work with my friend and it was sooooo good!! I loved the setting, and the depiction of Dracula was pretty chilling. There are a few shots from the movie that are lingering in my mind.

I baked a matcha flavored cake with homemade vanilla buttercream frosting on Friday after work :) and my friends came over that evening for a Red, White, and Royal Blue watch party! I read the book last summer and LOVED it, and the movie was such a beautiful adaptation. It was so much fun to share that experience with everyone. Also, Derek doesn't like cake because he's a freak (I say this with love and affection in my heart), so I'm always thrilled to be able to make cake and share it with others.

I spent almost every night this week lying on the sofa reading from my social work textbook, An Introduction to Group Work Practice. It has been so interesting and literally every reading session has given me relevant material to use for a particular project at work.

I planted a lime zinger sedum, a mini blue sedum, and a Japanese green carpet spurge out in the front yard today. :) But next weekend is my last planting weekend, since I want to stop 4 weeks before the first frost. :(

frustrating things,

I often speak positively about writing here, because I often feel positively about writing. But I've been working on the first draft of my novel since January, and I've written 343 pages. While also dealing with starting a new, much more demanding job, and dealing with my dad passing away.

And I'm tired. I did a LOT of consistent work on the project from May through the beginning of August, and I crashed this week - with like 10% left to write. I took Monday-Friday completely off and resumed work yesterday, and made good progress. I think I literally have 10 pages or less left before the ending. (which means that I will hit, and not exceed, my goal of a ~350 page novel.)

Writing a novel is just such a tiring process. I love writing, I always have, but it's work. It's been a big part of every weekend and many weekdays since January. It's not exactly relaxing, especially because this project has some challenging and emotional subject material that was hard to write. I'm so ready to be done with the first draft and move into my second draft.

A bit unrelated, but I need to get it off my chest: I have not watched any German news since October 7th simply because the sheer rage I feel every time I see these clown ass mfs jumping to Israel’s tune and making it their life mission to lick each and every Israeli boot squeaky clean genuinely affects my physical health. I only ever allowed myself to look up news about the weather due to flooding in Germany. They openly criminalize people and demonstrations that support Palestine, never EVER look at things from a Palestinian perspective and one party has even changed its rules for becoming one of their members, which involves saying that you acknowledge and support the state of Israel. They even debate making everybody applying for a German passport say the same before they’re allowed to get the passport. Germans are generally extremely uncritical when it comes to their news and their government. I remember them taking ‘fake news’ sooooo serious bc they genuinely could not fathom their news having a bias and/or openly lying to them. And I said generally, bc right wing nut jobs (who are on a drastic rise btw and threaten to take up major government power after the next elections, which is ofc never scrutinized the same way pro-Palestine Muslims or even Muslim immigrants are) love to mistrust anything everybody else is saying around them except for their other fascist friends, but that is never seen as a problem as much as we are. They keep on harping about us while facing a serious threat by the growing number of right wing supporters (which is obviously fine since they’re white christian Germans 99% of the time). During the last elections, German politicians would talk about a so-called ‘Linksrutsch’ CONSTANTLY on the news for months on end before the elections took place. (Linksrutsch means ‘a glide to the left’, aka that the government positions being taken up by more left/left-leaning parties. Y’know. Because that is soooooo bad, and would, given that those are democratic elections, definitely not represent the will of the German people.) In the end, we saw election results that showed the complete opposite - centrist and right wing parties received incredible amounts of votes, while left wing/left leaning parties lost votes and struggled to even stay afloat. Nobody EVER talks/talked about that. Germans and their fear of any kind of socialism is so easy to exploit. Coupled with the fact that they generally believe what they’re told unless it’s about opening up their own inane racist narrative that generally reaches the wrong conclusion and never gets challenged by the society, no wonder they’re Zionists, and no wonder the ‘Linksrutsch’ tactic worked so well. I also never want to hear a GERMAN make fun of USAmericans. The only thing that differs slightly is the way their economies are structured; white supremacy remains rampant in both countries.

Ranpo:

They are sooooo cool looking: I mean, Ranpo does look pretty cool. It's a good look for him. :)

Everyone but me is wrong about them/They're deeper than they seem: Ok, so actually this isn't totally true since I know some people here really get him... but I've also seen some weird takes and it's a shame because Ranpo is an excellent character who is a lot more than "really smart" and "likes snacks and praise". In fact, I've been writing a post about how Ranpo has a cohesive and consistent character arc in the story that I think kind of gets overshadowed by the major events of the plot, but it's still there, and Ranpo has done a lot of developing over the course of the series. It's just that not as much obvious attention is drawn to it as, say, sskk. Ranpo isn't the Agency's strongest for nothing. He's more than just a silly little guy.

Not as deep as they seem: ...at the same time, he is absolutely just a silly little guy who really just wants to do silly little guy things like eat candy and tease Poe and solve brutal murders and be praised for it. Ranpo is a complex character with simple needs I think... which might be why he can be a bit difficult to characterize.

I like them enough to project my own issues onto them/I'm mentally ill about them: Untold Origins... okay. So, I don't think I'm like Ranpo necessarily. But god if untold origins didn't hit a certain way. I spent a lot of my childhood being built up as a gifted kid then torn down for not being smart enough, often by the same people within the same day. It was confusing. Am I smart or not? Do you like me, or not? I was also that annoying kid who would correct the teacher's mistakes in class... except I wasn't doing it to be a showoff. It was wrong, and it does no one any good to be taught something wrong when it can be fixed right away, yeah? Well, my teacher didn't like that. Ever been bullied by your teacher as an elementary school kid while having no idea what you did to have someone hate you this way? Not fun. Do not recommend. So Ranpo's story brought a lot of those feelings back. Ha. I also have a lot of thoughts about a kid who grew up in a sheltered environment, suddenly left with the grief from the loss of his parents and no support, lost in a world he does not understand that terrifies him, and the way he is given the means to build a life for himself in spite of it all (even if it is based off a lie). I can't wait to write more about Ranpo. I really do like him a lot and I don't talk about him nearly enough.

I want to carry them in a handbag like a tiny dog: Not in the usual deranged way; I actually think Ranpo might like this tbh. He wouldn't have to walk lol.

Poe:

They are sooooo cool looking: Yeah. I have no idea why he dresses like that, but yeah.

Everyone but me is wrong about them: ...ooookay. So, maybe I'm just not looking in the right area. But, and this might be a bit surprising to hear given that I'm a fan of Chuuya, it's actually Poe's mischaracterization in fics that irritates me the most. He's not soft. He has anxiety. There's a difference (please don't write all socially anxious people as soft little beans, please...). Poe doesn't do things "just because", everything needs to be framed as an intentional challenge. He spent 6 years writing his vengeance. I know we all laugh at the "for some reason I can't say no to Ranpo" bit (who are you fooling man?), but like. He continues to rationalize his affection as traps and challenges. Poe isn't soft. He does still harbour some feelings of jealousy towards Ranpo - it's just that it's vastly outweighed by his (completely oblivious) fondness for him. He brings up how he feels he's "just being used" a few times by several people, but I've rarely seen this talked about. He's an easily startled goof but also more than capable of being very pushy when he thinks it's necessary - think of his placing blank pages in every room to try and get Mushitarou to write lmao. He's a drama queen, only just barely held back from full-blown theatre kid by his crippling anxiety. And he knows full well the value that lies in writing a memory (his softest moment is when he is in his element!). Poe is a complicated character in his own right, and while it is not explored nearly enough in canon - isn't that what fic is supposed to be for? I'd love more fics that explore him, and especially his conflicting feelings towards Ranpo, who he is very attached to and fond of (it's borderline a canon crush to me). He feels envious, but he wants to impress him, but he wants to beat him utterly, but he would do anything for him, he is his perfect partner in (solving) crime, etc., etc. Poe fears disappointing Ranpo and it's for a mess of reasons that are not just all "because he likes him", though that is, undeniably, a big part of it. It's implied he may even fear being replaced or seen as not very important to him, and, as is typical for Poe, he doesn't shy away and retreat - he immediately turns quite internally poisonous towards the "threat". Poe is full of strong, sometimes ugly, conflicting feelings that he rarely actually acts on, and I'd love to see these explored more, both in canon, and in fics. He's a silly guy too, but... you know.

Wasted potential (?): Well, I want to wait a bit before making any judgements here, but if Poe stays a comic relief character who only creates books for Ranpo to use, I'll be a little disappointed. His ability is so powerful. Unbelievably so. It also requires him to write, and with a Book being such a core part of the story, and authors tending to have strong influences on the plot (Odasaku, Natsume, arguably Yokomizo), I think it'd be really weird if Poe went nowhere.

They work better as part of a dynamic: Ranpoe my beloved <3 (I also love his kindness towards Mushitarou :') )

Mushitarou:

They're like a blorbo to me: I mean. You guys saw my deranged rambling about him already. You know I am not normal about him.

I'm mentally ill about them: You KNOW I am NOT NORMAL ABOUT HIM. I've written all my thoughts before. His story will never not make me emotional. I think he's one of the best written characters. I personally place him up there with Kyouka and Akutagawa for quality of writing and overall themes.

Why do they look like that: onceler looking dude...

They've never done anything wrong in their life: Well. He very much has done things wrong. But, much like Ango, circumstance and a lack of foreseeable alternatives pushed them into making a set of horrible choices that they will forever be haunted by. It's why I think they should hang out about it... maybe kiss...

A couple of my favorite things from each Pokemon generation

I have a lot of negative things to say about recent Pokemon, but I kinda want to offset that with a list of some of my actual favorite things. There are a lot, so I'm going to try and list just one from each gen.

Gen 1

Probably the hardest to come up with, since later games mostly improved upon the formula. I could just say "it's the first Pokemon game" but that feels like a cop-out. So, instead, I'll say it's the sort of mystery it had. You'd find new things out from being told by friends. There were rumors about how to catch the mythical Mew. There was the superstition that holding down certain buttons would help catch Pokemon. It may have just been a thing of its time, given the state of the internet back then. But there's something about getting information from guides and friends instead of an ad-ridden barf of a website that made Pokemon feel really personal.

Actually, I just remembered one more positive in me. Gary being an absolute asshole. I love being able to take my rival down a notch. I don't want to feel bad I destroyed my rival because they're a great person. I want to rub it in Gary's dumb face.

Gen 2

The phone system. Being able to get calls from trainers, asking for a rematch was the coolest thing. It made the world feel so alive. Like there were things going on while you were training to become a champion.

I'm surprised we don't have anything like this in modern Pokemon games. A fake social media network would be sooooo cool to see within Pokemon. Gen 7 kinda had this with the photos, but the responses weren't from NPCs you've met. It felt kind of flat to me. But if Youngster Joey followed me and commented on every picture of a Ratata I posted, I'd be stoked. If my rival sent pics of their travels while I did mine, it would make me want to go out and find those places and show them up. I think there is a lot of potential to make the Pokemon world feel more lived-in in the games.

Gen 3

So, Gen 3 is two things, but both because of the same reason: Puzzles and Exploration.

Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald had a lot of depth to the maps. You could climb your bike up the side of a mountain and drive over a bridge from where you were just standing. The sense of exploration was strong too. You could dive underwater and see the depths. Too much water, my ass.

Exploration felt worth it too. Especially the Regi trio. Three legendary Pokemon you get just by wandering around and hearing myths and solving puzzles. None of it is part of the main story. You feel rewarded for exploration. We got a whole open world in Gen 9, but none of the exploration really feels as worth it as it did in Gen 3.

And the puzzles were really fun too. They had a slight challenge to them as a kid. In the newer games, the gym challenges feel a little more like filler than a challenge. The themed puzzles were almost a staple of Pokemon gameplay at this point, from spinning tiles, to cracking ice blocks to pushing boulders around. It was a part of Pokemon's DNA, and honestly, I miss it.

I put these in the same category because of the Regi trio. They are the result of exploration and puzzles, and I really feel like they highlight everything that was great about Gen 3 gameplay.

Gen 4

The best thing I remember about Gen 4 was the lore. And it had to be in Gen 4! This was the game where the creation trio was introduced. But seeing all this lore really helped to flesh out the world a lot. I really want to see more story outside of the main storyline and Pokedex entries. I want to know about the wars that happened long ago. I want to know the myths that the mythicals were involved in. I want to know more about this world that GameFreak has created. We do see a little bit of that in Legends: Arceus. And I love it for it.

Gen 5

Sprites.

I never had the opportunity to play the Gen 5 games until after I completed Gen 7. But I do remember that I was blown away by the personality that the sprites brought. Every single one was animated in such a way that really highlighted that Pokemon's personality. The idle animations in modern games can feel a little bland and stiff. But just look at this! Wings flapping, mouth chomping, this guy feels alive. This kind of personality really helped the Black and White games feel so organic.

Gen 6

Pokemon Amie.

It's one thing to select an item, click use, and then just heal your Pokemon up. But, I'm playing Pokemon because I love my partners in crime. I want to give them the praise they deserve, not just run to a salon and select the option to groom them. And feed them. It was like a dumbed-down Nintendogs, and I would love for there to be more Pokemon games that expand on this idea. Or even just bring it back in full in a new game.

Honestly, the whole online capability of the game was great, that whole section on the lower part of the 3DS. It was really easy to find trades, battles, etc, something that I think the new games lack for some reason.

Oh, and Megas were also really cool. Probably the best "Gimmick".

Gen 7

Gen 7 was in a kind of transition period, but honestly, it had one of my favorite stories. A lot was going on, and it was great. Runaway hooligans, interdimensional travel, mind control... this game had it all. The characters are fun, especially Guzma (what a name, by the way). And from what I remember, post game for Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon were really cool for having all of the big bosses from previous games show up and say what happened in the worlds in which they won.

Runner up is wild double-battles (SOS battles). I miss in-game double battles...

Gen 8

This one is a tough one. Not that I particularly hated Gen 8, no. It's just that it was in a sort of experimental period that Gen 9 greatly improved upon. It was the first attempt at a semi-open world, and it was pretty cool, but underwhelming. But, it definitely opened up my mind to what Pokemon could be. They were finally trying new things that strayed from the original formula. Raid Dens were a neat concept, but just didn't feel like it had the epicness it was going for. The Wild Area was cool, but not as explorable as I hoped. But, at the very least, it let me know that Pokemon didn't have to be just the same linear path every generation. Maybe in the future we can finally get back to the exploration and collection that made Pokemon so enjoyable. Which led to...

Gen 9

Everything that Gen 8 was trying to do, Gen 9 improved. Not perfected. Far from it. But it started getting closer to what I imagine to be my perfect Pokemon game. I'm not going to explain my perfect Pokemon game here, but I will highlight a few things about Gen 9.

First, of course, is open-world exploration. I remember taking on the challenge of doing the gyms in reverse order. And while I would have loved some better scaling, it was just really cool to be able to do the gyms and story in my own way. I really hope they fix it up a bit and continue it.

Then, there's the story itself. The game went real. A little darker than some of the previous games, but not edgy dark. No spoilers, of course, but it was good to see characters get plenty of character growth and screentime. It was cute. It was sad. It was fun.

Raids were also improved. It still has its connection problems. But the biweekly 7-stars feel more of a challenge. I don't like that it's built around FOMO and I feel it should rotate. I agree about your two last asks regarding gojo. I can understand how op characters might struggle to connect with other people, but this character trope has been done so many times, that I don’t believe it’s impossible for them to actually find a connection with someone who’s just an ordinary person. Gojo has always had the ability to make that connection with other people, he just didn’t believe it’s possible for him, because yknow he’s sooooo above them *eye roll*... I don’t hate or even dislike how gojos arc was executed, cause the set up was there. Gege was always open about what kind of person gojo is and just how flawed his philosophy was. So narrative and characterisation wise, his arc makes sense. I DO think it’s a well executed arc. The only thing that personally bothers me is that… I really liked gojo for his flaws, but in the end they don’t actually seem to matter, because they were never really challenged (?) he got out of his box, he didn't give much of a reaction to his plans completely falling apart right in front of him (which… fine ok I guess he always had other priorities) or didn't even acknowledge megumi's situation beyond what it meant for the fight, went to have a fun fight, had fun and died. The end. so, at least to me, it feels like he completely got away with dealing with any consequences of his actions. They don’t matter anymore, his character reach his final destination. so as much as l genuinely appreciated gojo for his flaws… I don’t know how to feel about his character now. Right now, he’s just an overpowered guy who’s been struggling with an identity crisis for the past decade, until a stronger and smarter guy showed up (smarter because well… he kinda did outsmart him in the end) and gave him an answer by dethroning him of his title of the strongest (aka brutally murdering him). so all in all… his arc feels quite underwhelming… I mean it’s a good arc, but I wasn’t blown away lol there wasn’t much of an emotional impact for me AND THERE COULDVE BEEN, cause there are things gege could’ve tackled and developed better, but that’s on me I guess. I too in a way fell for the hype of gojo satoru, so I did end up having some expectations. I can only be glad that my actual fav here (Sukuna) has still place in the narrative and gege has kept his symbolism and philosophy rather tightly guarded, which doesn’t really leave us much room for expectations, since there’s very little we know about him. Honestly I’m just happy that the plot can finally (hopefully) move forward.

i also appreciate gojou for his flaws because i also thought something would be done with them narratively. i would've also preferred if his worldview got challenged actually and if he had to actually deal with the consequences of his actions a beliefs. now the kids will have to.

i wonder what this story would've been like if gege didn't decide to speed run it at some point. i wish i knew why they want to finish is as quickly as possible so badly.

Hi! The last ask about looking to your writing for inspo had me thinking how do you manage the dialogue to writing background and emotions ratio? When I’m writing I feel like my weakness is dialogue and I get too caught up in descriptive writing rather than using the dialogue to move the story along and I worry it can be burdensome to read. I also feel like I struggle with over explaining every detail in a story to make it comprehensive and I wanted to know how you deal with that since TBAW deals with accounting stuff that not much people would know about so how do you cut back and make sure you don’t over explain if that makes sense?

this is going to sound so stupid, but in my early days of writing, i used to over-describe things because i wanted the scene to look exactly the same way as it did in my head. with one fic that i was writing, one of the characters was eating a piece of cheese. literally, for no reason, i just thought it would be weird if he was just sitting there, so i gave him a piece of cheese to munch on.

IMMEDIATELY, in the comments, people were like "why is x eating cheese? what does that mean?" because i mentioned it so many times and i was like oh shit, because it doesn't mean anything!!!

that was sooooo embarrassing for me that now i only write what's important in a scene because that piece of cheese haunts me 💀💀💀

in all seriousness, readers are very perceptive and they can fill in the scene even if you don't describe every single detail. it can be hard to determine what's "important" in a scene, and that's still something i struggle with, but i try to stick to:

change in tone - if someone's having a normal conversation but the other person pisses them off, I'll say like "Jean snapped" or "Eren hissed" or w/e 💀 otherwise i like to stick to "said/says" because it doesn't interrupt the flow of reading.

body language/movement - instead of saying "Jean was angry" to set the scene, i could describe instead how he "clenched his fists down at his side and you could see the muscle in his jaw twitching" or smthn like that.

internal dialogue - sometimes I'll "pause" dialogue so a character can have an internal crisis, but i try to keep it short -- or if not, I'll have the other character comment on the long pause 💀 "snapping you out of your thoughts" type thing.

dialogue is fun because i think you can convey a lot through conversation. like the pauses in conversation, what words people use when they're talking, or what they decide to share. dialogue sets the scene just as much as emotions and descriptors do, in my opinion.

(also, lowkey writing physical scenes like smut/fighting/kissing really helps with this??? i think it's because you have to keep track of the character's body parts/clothes while also moving forward the dialogue and also not getting lost in the details? idk maybe it's just me 💀)

in terms of over-explaining in relation to the accounting stuff in tbaw..... honestly, i just try to give the bare minimum information necessary to the story.

i could ramble for pages about what the characters are doing, but it's not really important to know that reiner and reader are doing detail testing on the client's expense accounts to confirm completeness, accuracy, etc. ete. 💀 so i strip away the technical details and just say that they're looking at invoices -- because really, that's all you need to know to understand that they're working.

i actually worry that im not giving enough information, sometimes. like when i talk about queries and review notes, i worry that people don't understand what that means, but i hope with context they can get a general idea.

idk i'm still pretty new to writing too! it helps to read other peoples work and see how they do things to help improve your own writing!! not just fanfiction, but published books too.

i like to read YA/NA novels to help improve my writing. i know that genre gets a lot of flack for being too "simple" or "easy reads" or whatever, but i don't think that's a bad thing??? i'm not trying to write the next game of thrones, i'm just looking to write a little love story about some of my favourite anime boys, so i like keeping it simple.

HOWEVER, some people like writing with more descriptors or using more complex language, and there's nothing wrong with that either! at the end of the day, i think that you should write for yourself the way that you like stories to be written.

if you like scenes to be described to the minute detail, do it! if you want to get into the nitty gritty about accounting, write it!!

writing is my fun little hobby so i try not to stress about perfection too much. i know that's easier said than done, but you're your own worst critic so i guarantee even if you think something is too burdensome to read, someone else out there is eating up every single word!!

Oh! There's actually a fun story behind this one!

So when I was the young impressionable of 4, I saw my older cousin playing Dynasty Warriors 3 and me being a small child just wanted to do what my older cousin was doing and wanted to be included sooooo... He said fuck it, gave me a controller, and taught me how to play! It was one of the only video games I knew how to play when I was little and admittedly, I fucking sucked at playing any stages besides the first few. It wasn't until I was about??? 6 or 7 that I actually started kinda understanding what was going on cause I could, ya know, actually read now-- And it was Dynasty Warriors 4 that got me completely hooked to it! I had so much fun when I finally got the courage to play the story mode without help and got SO FUCKING GOOD at the game. It was the only game I had to play for years too besides Pokemon so it would just keep me entertained for HOURS. I liked a lot that like, yeah it was button mashing, but once you got down to it there was a method to the madness for landing combos and figuring out I frames and when you'd get an opening cause the enemy AI in 3 and 4 was SUPER FUCKING AGRESSIVE like it was a challenge and I like challenges!!!

Long story short: I was a small child who wanted to be included, which turned into being interested in the story (which actually lead to me doing some studying about the Han Dynasty and the Three Kingdoms Era when I was older), and because I was undiagnosed ADHD and Autism as a child, wanted to PERFECT my gameplay
