dream openers for the short n sweet tour
(+ reasons!)
after short n sweet tour openers were announced i thought it would be fun to make a list of my own favorite bands i would have loved to see. please (please please) check these artists out, many of them are indie or largely unrecognized and are so worth the listen!
note: these artists are not on sabrina's radar, so this is just in an ideal world. i also do not know these artists' personal lives or career history.
mikayla geier
Tumblr media
SUCH a good fit for this show tbh
has a very sabrina-like "feel what you feel and live in the moment" energy
SO creative. lots of self directed short films for her work and they all turn out amazing
had a little viral moment with her song "paris" which was cute
also has a "former ballet prodigy who is falling in love with dance again" journey which has been fun to witness online
just released her first album!
songs she'd play: dead end, here we go again, i don't feel safe in my body
tenille arts
Tumblr media
perfect country rep for the slim pickins/sharpest tool lovers
has opened for a number of country artists, performed at the grande ole opry, and won some music awards
kelly clarkson was a childhood music love, ended up (virtually) appearing on her show sometime in '22
really love her songs depicting girl on girl friendships
released a fairly solid album earlier this year!
songs she'd play: somebody like that, back then right now, high school sweetheart, call me when you get home friends
flowerovlove
Tumblr media
not sure why she isn't more mainstream tbh
fun songwriting and catchy melodies, what's not to love?
has a great creative team behind her: music videos remind me of sabrina's dedication to more than just visual shots
has an album coming out this october that she's also touring for! (tickets are super affordable if anyone's out there and interested)
songs she'd play: breaking news, boys, coffee shop, a girl like me
elio
Tumblr media
again, not sure how she's so underrated because everything she puts out is amazing
found her debut album this past month and have not stopped playing it on repeat (i'm sorry short n sweet)
collabs with other well known artists but seems to be more lowkey with her solo stuff?
also has a creative bend to her music videos, as seen in her song "sorority"
really can do anything, from ballads to hyperpop to country
songs she'd play: can i make you jealous, allofthat, sorority, i got the boy
katseye
Tumblr media
a brand new girl group created by geffen and hybe (the south korean company that debuted BTS)
members come from all across the world, with heritage from the phillippines, latin america, korea, europe/africa, south asia, china, and north america
created by a survival show (a more extensive american idol/got talent) called dream academy, chronicled in the netflix series "pop star academy"
not a ton of songs out but i think they could make it work, esp if they do some covers from earlier pop artists like sabrina did for her eras set
songs they'd play: touch, debut, tonight i might, my way
other artists i considered adding:
the aces
the beaches
boys go to jupiter
glades
peach fuzz
lyn lapid
anna avery
boys world (rip)

Can I ask if there are any k-rappers or alt k-artists you follow? It seems like a widely overlooked genre, kpop fans don't spare a glance at anything outside boy and girl bands releasing the same viral-music formula. And armys like to pretend they can listen to anything outside of jk's generic pop songs but the truth is that if anyone from rapline weren't a member of bts, their songs would be at the bottom of the food chain with 5m listens on spotify. Anyone can search up any korean rapper or literally any kind of alternative korean artist on spotify and see that the majority of them dont have more than 500k monthly listeners. Bts rapline got lucky with having a big fanbase but their songs are mediocre even for k-rap and hiphop standards
No you're right. I generally don't listen to k-rap, although I don't think the ones I've heard are any better than what rapline puts out. With korean music outside kpop, I listen to k-rnb which I guess consists of alternative rnb... not so much korean alternative music. I do not look for music like that in the k music scene. Korean pop and rnb music is taking more than enough space I think. Namjoon has worked with other alt k acts like balming tiger but sexy nukim wasn't something that made me curious about what else the band had to offer, I did like the collaboration with so!yoon though, so it made me check out her full album and now I listen to her music.
Rapline can make good music and they do, better than a lot of k hip hop artists, but I think in their quest to do something "different" in chapter two, they lost the plot. Yoongi didn't even try to do anything different, because dday was just a pale imitation of d2. Jack in the box and rpwp are good examples of trying so hard that you lose the plot.
Yes rapline does get more success than they would have if they weren't part of bts but aside from rm making an alternative album, the genres they put out are not so niche that they couldn't find success in it. I don't think indie alternative acts from sk should be compared to them at all. Considering the level they are and what they seem to be copying, they should have been able to achieve similar solo success as these popular alternative artists or even cultivate a separate audience outside armys no matter how small.
Alternative artists do well all the time, even if yes the success of their songs cannot be guaranteed and rappers are literally the most successful acts after pop artists... with a wider reach than other k rappers and with a big fandom and a bigger platform, you would expect stability at the least, even if huge debut numbers cannot be achieved.
Rapline's full albums drop to less than 500k streams only after a couple months of release and the streams only pick back up with pity parties... so who's listening then? Apart from their few biased fans... armys are not listening, they do not seem to have any audience outside the fandom too. Yoongi got close to cultivating a separate Audience for himself when d2 and the iu collab dropped but idk what happened to that momentum.
I think what is meant to be will be eventually but sometimes if something isn't working out you have to try and find out what the audience wants from you. What was it about those other rapline songs that made the fandom and the kpop community like them. But if they don't care about all that and they only care about putting out what they like and what they think the people want to hear, then I guess no one should be crying about the song's flopping then. I'm talking about rm and how he tends to throw slight shade when he underperforms btw.

Alright, not to get too caught up in the MHJ drama, but I’m crying because I just reread my now deleted post-Golden rant complaining about BSH, SB, and my issues with their strategy and I got to this part
Tumblr media
😭😭😭
No but I was right. Say what you want about MHJ, but NewJean’s was truly HYBE's only other major success outside of BTS and it had nothing to do with BangPD and it turns out that it absolutely did piss him off LMAO. I knew it. You don't have to believe everything she says, but the elevator thing was basically confirmed and there's no normal, well adjusted adult who would ignore young girls like that if they weren't an immature, petty asshole.
Not to be messy and reopen this can of worms, but it does make me think it's even more likely that he might have been a little bitter over LC hitting #1 considering he couldn't take credit for it. He had that whole article in billboard that came out around the same time talking about how they were going to get the next #1 through their connections or infrastructure or however he put it, which was clearly referencing SB & HYBE America. I think he was trying to make it seem like this whole Scooter A&R strategy was ingenious and vital to Western success based on how hard they kept pushing and talking it up. So if MHJ was telling any amount of truth about his attitude and how he acted towards NWJN's, I just can't help but feel like he must have felt at least a LITTLE negatively about LC hitting that #1 right after he was talking such a big game about how his system (that he spent a billion dollars on) was going to be vital to that next #1.
LC was a Korean song Jimin made with a small in-house team so it must have been a little embarrassing for him to say all that to billboard (and probably investors lol) and have it be immediately invalidated. And LC so clearly demonstrated that BTS and the members could still pull off these big feats without him or his ideas and massive investment and personal involvement. And yeah, billboard did target LC right after that to try and smear it's success, but I think this argument still holds up. Especially because if LC was given any extra care or support it could have kept charting. And what billboard did in it's second week was insanely dirty.
(I’m not saying he was MAD about it, or that he didn’t talk it up to investors after, or that he sabotaged Jimin like a vengeful cartoon villain, I’m just being petty and speculating and saying I don’t think he was thrilled about it considering the circumstances)
Likewise NewJean's released music that did have a good chunk of English but was still Korean, and they managed to break a bunch of girlgroup billboard records as well, and that's ANOTHER project that BSH didn't have his hands on at all. In fact it was one he didn't believe in. Yes, ILLIT broke their record for getting their debut song on billboard quicker, however BSH followed the formula that MHJ created and apparently didn't even consult her or give her any credit while creating a group that was clearly inspired by her work (I genuinely love ILLIT and think they have their own identity! But they do follow the formula that MHJ popularized). So it's not like he got another group on billboard with his genius, it was again just following a formula someone else created (Magnetic was a bop and I loved the whole EP, so I'll give him that!).
I honestly don't even know what SB brings to the table that's so helpful because all they need for a pop song to succeed is basic charting tools like CDs and remixes and playlisting, which they could get before him, and basic decent promotions for visibility. And he's not doing anything interesting or helpful for the non-pop releases even though there's a massive market here for indie, alternative, R&B, and rap. Why wasn't CBTM on college stations? He's useless because the pop releases don't even need much to be successful. And none of JKs promotions were new or unique or something they couldn't have gotten before SB either. And if he's doing something else behind the scenes, I don't think that's worth it either.
JK did have more GP tuning in, but his solo debut was still heavily carried by ARMYs who took advantage of every provided tool, so nothing revolutionary they couldn't have accomplished pre-SB. It wouldn't have worked for anyone else like I said before either, a good example being TXT and their Jo Bros collab which flopped. BSH was all overconfident (top 10 on billboard lol) about it because he thought the secret to success was simply - western producer, western collab, english - but their fans didn't care for the song and therefore it didn't do well. So yeah, at the end of the day it's about good music and/or having a big fandom willing to carry (and that very rare charisma the BTS members have). Not whatever stupid synergy strategy BSH thought he unlocked. Honestly I wonder if he's really that stupid to think that they could get a hit with just those things, but I'm starting to think so. Genuinely what good decision has he made lately that wasn't just following trends?
Won't rehash everything again but this MHJ drama did make me look back on all this discourse even though I swore I was done with it. I'm not as bothered by all of this now, I just think it's interesting to look back on and compare some of her criticisms of HYBE & BSH to many of our own criticisms and speculation. While I take her words with a massive grain of salt, I do think there's a lot of outside evidence to back up some of her claims about the company and their issues (and I'm not her fan or excusing her actions or saying she's always truthful either).
Of course I could be totally wrong, just my thoughts. I'll go back to looking forward to Jin returning and upcoming projects because at the end of the day the BTS members are the ones responsible for their own careers and they have to be the ones to advocate for themselves and deal with their company, but the plus side of this situation is that I hope at least some K-ARMYs are approaching the company with more scrutiny and hopefully holding them accountable for certain things, although I won't hold my breath. It was hilarious seeing HYBE's quick response to their complaints about Jin's hug event though. I wish I-ARMYs would stop being such company stans (you can criticize HYBE/BH without being a manti you know) but not getting my hopes up.
I just sincerely hope that this whole SB creative strategy won't carry over into BTS music, or any more of their solo work. I wouldn’t care if the quality was there, but imo it’s too inconsistent (I definitely enjoy most of Golden! Seven is a bop, SNTY is 10/10). It’s not about creating art or good music for them, it’s about trying to design a song that they think will chart. And songs like that will almost always lack in some way. So I hope this doesn’t become a pattern and the members retain their creative freedom and recognize that they definitely do not need to rely on those people for a hit (ofc unless the want to work with them).

RPWP let's go! To be honest, I didn't know the album dropped today. I thought Lost was another pre-release and that the album would drop in June, but I think that's NJs new album?
Anyway, I watched the Lost MV after waking up and was kind of disappointed. Namjoon's always a mixed bag (except in collabs). I don't understand his way of writing and expressing himself, and find it quite indigestible and dense; his English rap is very slurred most of the time too. Yes, he's incredibly intelligent, can write amazing lyrics, and his Korean rap can be insane, but a lot of the times I can't enjoy his songs. I tend to like his features more (he has some amazing ones, like Change, Sexy Nukim and Don't).
Hours later, I'm back from work and have listened to his album:
Right People, Wrong Place: Nice intro, but immediately his English accent and the way he sings in English is off-putting. The track is also very alternative and indie, which are genres I don't vibe with.
Nuts: Very interesting song... The way he's rapping in the beginning is a bit... it doesn't work super well. I loved the outro though - that part was cool. Overall, it's a good song. People went fucking crazy over the "she's a pro-rider", and also "he's a pro-rider", but I'm not sure this is Namjoon being a "bisexual king"; it's like the relationship from the guy's pov, which is why he says "no woman could stop him" and not "no man [RM] could stop him". But it's still a possible interpretation. I just see too many Armys taking everything he said literally and filling in the blanks with assumptions, creating their own narrative which is quickly being spread as the truth. People are saying RM cut his hair, started working out and deleted his IG pics because of a breakup and that he then got into situationships. I mean, this would be a normal thing to do but those could all be isolated events. You don't know if he cut his hair over a breakup?... Like, Army wants BTS relationship drama so much they act like they know everything. I admit I'm not a normal 20 year old, so who knows? I also wasn't keeping up with his Weverse lives.
out of love: Well, this whole album is very Sundance coming of age movie about a "cool yet lost guy in his 20s who goes to bars, drinks, smokes with this friends while contemplating his existence" which couldn't be further from my vibe. I hate indie music because it's slow, lethargic, whimsical, loose, and I'm neurotic, high-strung, literal, and uptight. I can't vibe with indie; I can't relate to normal 20 years old who smoke weed at parties. That's really nothing special, but to me it's a whole different universe. I have no friends or a life. I can't relate to Namjoon at all... Anyway, him saying "bitches" is not cool. I see Army praising him for hitting back at those who criticize idols for smoking, but, no man - unless he's explicitly queer and saying it and a fun manner, maybe, can use the word "bitch" imo. I fucking hate that word. I also felt like Namjoon was trying to copy black rappers in this song, but I'm probably too white to comment. Can't say I enjoyed the track. I feel really basic, but I'm too straight-laced, boring white girl to appreciate this album, sorry.
Domodachi: Eh... I was expecting the woman to be an amazing rapper, since I saw Army hype her up, but she's... alright? Lyrically, she's pretty basic - in this track at least. Also, it's so weird listening to Brits rap lmao. There's no translation of this track yet, so I don't really know the lyrics.
? (Interlude): I like classical music (won't include XXI classical music in this statement, which I know nothing about and is a lot different from what we traditionally think of as classical music), but I don't like jazz that much in general... Both are considered "intelectual music", but jazz isn't for me... I like structure and a certain repetitiveness in music. Improvisation is just confusing to me and, like, I'm so type A, I just can't vibe with it.
Groin: Joon's cursing is a bit too much in this album. The way he curses is a bit... aggressive?, yet at the same time giving Jungkook in Seven vibes. I guess that's the point. We have "bitch" here again. It's pretty disappointing... I thought he'd learned better. I read the lyrics translation from an account on X and on Genius, and they were quite different... The first was very anti establishment, the second less so. "Not a fucking diplomat" is great though. But I hate the chorus... "Get your ass out the trunk?"...
Heaven: Didn't particularly stand out. This song also doesn't have a translation yet (or I couldn't find one. It's been hours though. If this was an ot7, maknae line, or Yoongi track, 100% sure there would be multiple translations already).
LOST!: The woman singing in the beginning sounds so familiar... The song has a fun rhythm, and of all the RPWP tracks (aside from Come Back to Me), it's the easiest listening song. It actually represents the album very well, unlike Come Back to Me which is a clear outlier (feel kind of deceived, really) and easily the most GP friendly track (hence it being the pre-release). The song is fun but the English lyrics are just bad. The album's full of poorly written English lyrics. I guess it's on purpose? Don't like it, don't get it.
Around the world in a day: Another count for "bitch". The song's okay, butthe lyrics are... Honestly, it feels like the whole album is just vibes. What is he even saying? Heartbreak, anger, etc., but in terms of message, it's very repetitive. It's all so vague too? Don't know what he means because I like things spelled out to me - maybe that's my bad.
Credit Roll: Well, no use commenting haha.
Come Back to Me is the only relatable and truly enjoyable track to me. Sorry, I don't know how to appreciate this album and can't stand a lot of the English. I feel like RPWP highlights everything I like least about RM as an artist... While, I didn't enjoy the album on my first listen, it's cool how experimental it is and that it sounds nothing like idol music. BTS are so diverse musically. If you play this album to anyone and tell them it's BTS, they'll be in absolute disbelief lmao.
Second listen through and review here!

someone else posted about jenny park being the next IT girl. honestly this shit is ridiculous. idk who that girl is but why oh why does korea push the y2k IT girl type thing its like trying to make "fetch" happen and it doesnt happen? if u know what i mean. overall kpop is becoming very cringe worthy like its a buncha gen z and alphas trying to be IT boys and girls. i cannot relate to it anymore. its a shame its about how idols look or dress than it is about actual music and actual music is pushed onto tiktok which again is mainly for younger gens. i keep trying to find some type of entertainment these days but its so generically bad or something that would give me a lot of second hand embarassement. sure theres still songs and some groups i like but not enough to be so immersed into it anymore. i feel that korea is taking it too far and esp with the way wonyoung is both hated and admired for simply being a "giant baby" tf is wrong with society nowadays? imho its also why idols act so bizare on camera.
Yeah, I've not been feeling K-pop for a while now. The music is okay (imo new jeans are saving 5th gen), but overall I find better music in the underground korean scene and in America's indie scene as well. Honestly, they just need new producers and to stop fixating on just looks (A perfect example is Sullyoon, she is one of most gorgeous idols and ppl consider her an IT girl but her groups music is beyond trash)
I notice a lot of K-pop fans hate on Western music, but at least there's a focus on music/creativity and not just vanity

! "songs you actually listen to(?)" tag game !
rules: when you get this you have to put 5 songs you actually listen to, and post it! then, send this to 10 of your favorite followers (non-negotiable, positivity is cool) < that is actually part of the rule i didn't make it up
tagged by: ilem aka @lovejoshua love how you tagged me but the tagging link doesn't work... it's very fortunate that i saw your post on my timeline
i'll do you all better... i'm doing 5 artists i'm currently listening to instead! and this will be full of tone indicators because people will get offended even by the minuscule things + because this is music i will freaking ramble so i'm sorry for the incoming long post
&team, specifically firework
this song is such a surprise for me and to be honest i hadn't even thought that hybe could make another good song for any other artists than newjeans /pretty srs. it has a bit of txt's thursday's child 80's vibe to it. it definitely makes much more sense than what the walmart twilight concept enhypen is doing /nm /criticism (believe me, i'm still stuck in the tamed-dashed era. also bring back the composer who makes given-taken pls /gen) i also want to give my two cents and say that i like the korean version better. i think this song was meant to be sung in korean before japanese imo
radiohead
what is 2023 lissie without radiohead? from creating and planning a 20-part anthology series based of their discography to buying my favorite albums of theirs on vinyl (which are the two albums that i plaster above), they've climbed up my ranks of favorite artists of all time. i choose jigsaw specifically because i rekindle my love of playing bass from that song and climbing up the walls because of the seonghwa fic i'm planning (it is exceptionally one of the most underappreciated songs in ok computer...)
billlie
they are the children of f(x) i'm telling you!!!!!!!!! just like how i consider the boyz as the children of exo and txt as the children of shinee. they are the siblings of 2016-2019 loona and gwsn. they are the product of sm ent's music prodigy sibling and i love them for that. they also are the junior of brown eyed girls, aka one of the most iconic kpop 2nd gen gg and the one that releases bops such as brave new world, kill bill, sign, and abracadabra! i love their discography so much and they have the potential to have one of the best kpop discographies in the industry alongside red velvet. i'll gatekeep them until the end along with onf because only people with taste can enjoy their songs /lh /gen aaaaaaaaaaa
triples aaa
the unit that could be if modhaus don't make such a strict rule because they disbanded for not having 100k album sold (womp womp) generation is such a high-quality debut track from a small company and dimension having their own versions within the subunits is a great concept. i mean, jaden jeong is the head of the 2016-2019 loona sound and i gotta have to appreciate him for picking good tracks man. their songs are also one of the bases of sound for my oc kpop group sound in @interactivemochi. also a discussion starter question: will modhaus actually be able to do the multi-unit many-member group that sm ent wanted with nct? i actually think they will because indie labels are more experimental than the big corporate ones (aka nct will be great with their infinite concept if they're committed and take those risks) just look at jaden jeong's print on onlyoneof and loona, they're pretty small but their fans are loyal af. yet, i'm merely just a casual listener of triples because they play around with nfts (and i am a biz student who doesn't like crypto and nft)
depeche mode and other new wave and 80s experimental musicians
when you have a gen z kid who likes older songs rather than new ones, they have to listen to new wave and synth-pop, specifically depeche mode. people usually associate them with post-punk along with talking heads, joy division, new order, kate bush etc and i can definitely agree. new wave is one of my favorite genres because of how experimental they are and it is exactly what depeche mode is doing + i love the resurgence of old brit bands like the shoegaze bands that includes slowdive, mbv, and siouxsie and the banshees
don't forget that this is meant to be 5 songs and i wanted to be extra because i can be extra *wink*
tagging: @ujunxverse (you could definitely do it on @/orochxi if you want), my fellow untag people from ilem's post @boba-beom @robin-obsessed, also others such as @dim-sun @tyunlatte @heart2beom @itz-yerin @txt-yaomi @talesofyuan @euphor1a + anyone who wanna join cuz i would love to hear new music :D

reasons to watch each of the taemin concerts:
hi its me, the self-appointed taemin concert expert :) i think we're all missing him a lot rn so its the perfect time to watch all his concerts >:) here's what i think are the strengths of what i consider his 4 quintessential concerts !!!! come join my world >:)
off-sick:
[DL link]
- his first korean concert ! he debuted most of the tracklist for the "move" album there (which is a phenomenal album)
- also performed "move" itself for the first time here !!! the energy of it is insane
- live band [!!!!] as the backing instruments for at least half of, if not most of the concert, gives a different feel to songs youve already heard :)
- because of that theres a lot of rearrangements, & his romeo + juliette solo version which is so beautiful
- (biggest selling point is the live band tbh but its so so good ^^^^)
- also the best door performance is the offsick one (yeah, the bondage one)
- the mystery lover vcr !!! (his indie horror movie) and a very cool dance vcr
- overall very fun & extremely energetic feel with a classic taemin edge !!
- this concert was such a big hit irl that he had to do it again in a bigger venue lol (his one and only public apology, not enough people got to see this concert)
Sirius:
[DL//watch link (eng subs)]
- a concert with a story !!! theres a LOT of overarching themes and storytelling in this, even the vcrs are mostly continuous :) !
- some very very beautiful expressive performances
- THE DOOR PERFORMANCE [!!!!!] its completely different from the usual tied-up door, but in a way that lends itself to the story very very well (i will never shut up about it)
- overall feels very musical-esque ? theatrical ? besides the vcrs, even the performances themselves seem to continue from each other in a sort of plot arch :) (if you care to read that much into it which, you should)
- very cool use of the background screens, feels more integral to the performances, rather than just something as a backdrop. the set design is super cool in general !!
- overall elegant and theatrical feel !! a lot of emotion in this. i go insane over sirius lore once per month
- space wolfs [!!!!]
t1001101:
(also known as "TMI concert") [DL link]//[watch link (eng subs)]
- a "little prince" themed concert with some of my favorite costumes and visuals out of any of them (i own the photo book :] )
- THE INCLINE !!!! a large portion of the stage is inclined and incorporated into the dance in very very cool ways
- ^^^ the incline !!!!! (emphasis) its very cool and steep, a lot of time he's on it he has to be held with a bungee, but since hes taemin, uses it to make the dance even cooler :)
- he debuted "identity" and "heaven" here (before they were full versions u know today) !!!!! the identity opening is one of the coolest things ive seen, he has so much power
- the very concert that gave us "taemins media bible" & songs transitioning into each other a lot (plus a taemin+shinee mashup)
- stone heart and back to you VCRs !!!!!! basically bonus music videos :) stone heart got the mv it deserves considering its the best song of all time :)
- overall cool cool cool feeling, prettyboy taemin strikes again, the feeling of a taemin music video, but 2 hours long
- the first taemin concert i watched :) my recommendation for newer or more casual fans
X™:
[DL link]//[watch link]
- his most recent in person concert, extremely good and epic !!
- i've seen this so so many times, also amazing costumes and visuals, so much power, he's truly living up to being called "king"
- there isnt really a gimmick but it has some of the most solid taemin performances ive seen (eclipse lives forever in my heart <3 most underrated performance) & a generally amazing setlist
- the famous album came out during this tour so a few songs from famous were debuted here :) !!!
- specific shoutout to the slave performance.... yknow
- the lighting and camerawork is so amazing !!!!!!! seriously, i can not sing the crew's praises enough they deserve a raise
- they surprised him with an end of tour video it was really sweet :(
- "FLOW" & "CRYONICS" vcrs !!!! are so crazy... i still dont understand the lore but they fuck
- overall very solid and powerful feeling, taemin simply showing off what he does best !!!!
in summary: i can not stress enough how experiencing a taemin concert in full is very different from seeing the same performances isolated. him and the crew clearly give so much thought into them, the sequencing, the continuity, the set and costume design, lighting.... the secret lore thats going on maybe sometimes ??? i really think they deserve more appreciation (even if they get a lot lol, never enough !!!) so... yeah :) bye

The other day I realized I hadn't done a top ten albums of the year list for the past 7 years, and this felt like the perfect year to remedy that. There was so much good music that came out this year, sitting back and taking a look at all of it was a bit overwhelming. I'm sure there's something I missed, but i started with 58 albums, narrowed that down to 16 using a rating system, and from those I found my top 10. And so without further ado, I present my list of the top 10 albums of 2023.
10. Nothing But Thieves-Dead Club City With a great alt/indie rock vibe, this album will keep a smile on your face from start to finish. From smooth tunes reminiscent of the early 80s, to harder deep bass sounds of the 2010s, this album is sure to bring some joy to your eardrums.
my top 3 songs-Welcome To The DCC, Do You Love Me Yet?, Foreign Language
9. Boys Like Girls-Sunday At Foxwoods So although I was aware of their existence, I am not someone who really listened to Boys Like Girls until like....3 months ago. But that means I approached this album with no judgement and no expectations. A fresh perspective. And I really like this album. The songs are modern, peppy, and fun, but they dance around the edge of angst. So even if, like me, you were previously unfamiliar with this band, I think you'd find it easily enjoyable.
my top 3 songs-The Outside, Blood and Sugar, Physical
8. Sleep Token-Take Me Back To Eden I think Sleep Token has been on a lot of people's music radars this year, it was this way that I originally found them. Imagine my surprise when I learned they are a 'progressive metal' band. I haven't listened to a ton of their previous work, but aside from one song on this album (that I always skip) the music is deep, melodic, and beautiful. The lead singer has a haunting and soothing tone, I would definitely recommend giving them a listen (just remember to skip song #5)
my top 3 songs-DYWTYLM, Ascensionism, Aqua Regia
7. FIZZ-The Secret To Life FIZZ is a group made up of 4 seperately successful solo artists (including my personal favorite, Dodie Clark) who have joined together to create a fabulous sound that harkens to movie soundtracks of the 90s, with a dash of flower-power and a sprinkle of queer angst. FIZZ is definitely bringing something different to the floor that I don't hear in a lot of modern bands. A bright sparkling sound that grabs your attention and
my top 3 songs-The Grand Finale, Close One, You Me Lonely
6. Niall Horan-The Show Ok, I do have to say, this album is no Heartbreak Weather (the best Niall album imo) but it's still a great album. I love listening to Niall because he feels like one of those people who will still be doing shows when he's 60 and these songs will be considered classics. These songs make me feel like it's 1974, I'm dancing in my living room, and this album is of course playing on vinyl. Everyone from your little brother to your grandma will enjoy this (even if they won't admit it).
my top 3 songs-Save My Life, Heaven, Must Be Love
5. The Rose-Dual Sadly I missed their show this year, but I always always adore a Rose album. Woosung's vocals are top tier, the blend of genres, and for those of you too scared to listen to Korean music, no worries, all the songs are in English. One of my favorite things about The Rose is the way they sound on their albums is the way they sound in person, and after listening to them for a few years I see so much growth in their music and it's so good.
my top 3 songs-Back To Me, Alive, Wonder
4. No Frills Twins-Aquarius Not surprised if none of you know who this is, but this awesome Australian duo has been on my radar for close to 12 years now. This is actually their first full album and it's about time! Their unique sound and vocals are like nothing you're hearing in mainstream music today or yesterday either. If you need a full emotional escape, this is the album for you.
my top 3 songs-Golden, Heartbreak City, Soft Porn
3. Maisie Peters-The Good Witch What an adorable human being! British singer/songwriter Maisie Peters should be your new favorite, because she certainly is mine. With an ethereal voice and thought-provoking song lyrics, you truly feel like she is telling you a story. I love how each songs has a lovely spritely feeling and Maisie's sweet voice provides you a delightful experience. Recommend if you want some joy in your music.
my top 3 songs-The Good Witch, BSC, History of Man
2. Hozier-Unreal Unearth Oh what can I say about Hozier that hasn't already been said. This album is a theraputic escape. The music is deep and orchestral and gathers you in a warm dark place. I absolutely love that the songs are inspired by Dante's Inferno, music inspired by literature are some of my favorites. I love combining two forms of art. I feel like I don't need to tell you to listen to this album, because you're smart, you've done it. But if you haven't, we all need to cry in car at some point.
my top 3 songs-I Carrion, Unknown/Nth, Damage Gets Done
Honorable mentions-Carly Rae Jepsen "The Loveliest Time", Raye "21st Century Blues", Jungkook "Golden" , Ren "Sick Boi", Dreamfone "postMANIC" and finally...
1.Morgan Clae-Dreamboy If you're on TikTok you may have seen Morgan who went a bit viral for her audition of Poseidon in the EPIC musical. If you haven't, let me tell you, this album was a religious experience. I was stunned to the edge of stunning. Morgan's voice, music, and presence, holds such a beautiful power and she finds such perfect ways to express herself. Not often does an album truly leave me speechless. I implore you to listen to this artist.
my top 3 songs: The Break: Injury, The Hope, The Dream

✿ ⸻   TAPE TWO : SHE BLOSSOMS !
when planning for a trip, she prefers to improvise — date, place, food; it all depends on the mood.
formerly an infp but is currently an enfp. though, she thinks that she is a combination of both.
so hee has two cats, a white one named hammer and a grey one named marsh-ie.
she is a sensitive sleeper and often has to spray an aroma that comforts her to sleep.
prefers to go out than stay in; she considers herself a busybody, even if it means doing things independently. the only time she likes to stay in is if she's been super busy. then, she prefers to stay home and watch things or read.
her art journey started with fashion design, later to details in art, before fine arts until she switched focus to becoming an actress.
she is not afraid to admit that she's a bad dancer, and would even prefer being a good dancer over being a good singer.
so hee isn’t one to approach people first, she would rather they come to her.
her habit when taking a photo is doing the 'toothache pose'.
Tumblr media
✿ ⸻   MIXTAPE : WE FLOURISHED !
below are all of so hee's connections within seouless. disclaimer : if you're unhappy with a description, please let me know. this will be kept up to date as time passes.
✶ seokjin of bts ⸻ ex
prior to him, so hee had been in a string of casual relationships, nothing that ever meant too much. she had been too focused on making ends meet to working her hardest for her dreams to come true for something so serious. things changed when meeting seokjin — her first true love and serious relationship. it was serious for her to the point where so hee felt that he really was the one. the two breaking up was out of love, for the sake of their happiness. it was a tragic, bittersweet ending to something that was once so beautiful. it inevitably changed how she guarded her heart and decisions she isn’t necessarily proud of.
they are on good terms and so hee no longer has a romantic attraction or interest in seokjin; just fondness and a constant wish for him to be happy.
✶ jungkook of bts ⸻ family / younger brother
with so much in common, it isn’t surprising to anyone around them on how well these two meshed and simply clicked together. jungkook is one of the very few people that so hee truly allows herself to be free around, more than usual. she barely keeps secrets from him, though, so hee would not be able to tell you if she has any secrets from him. jungkook is someone she feels safe with, that she can trust, and the feeling seems to be mutual. so hee would do anything to make sure he’s happy.
✶ taemin of shinee ⸻ love interest / crush
despite being deeply attracted to one another and the two of them knowing it, something always prevents it from happening. one thing is for sure : when things begin to get serious between the two, so hee, more often than not, tends to back away. perhaps so hee is too afraid to get into another relationship for fear of getting hurt again or maybe it's taemin's imprudent actions at times. reviving their friendship after losing contact, who's to say if so hee will finally let him in in the end?
✶ wooyoung of ateez ⸻ family / younger brother
everyone needs a support system, someone they can turn to when things are too much. and well, that’s who so hee is for wooyoung. no matter the time of day or night, all it takes is a simple message and she’s there. in trade, so hee has recognized him as a younger sibling — leaving him subject to her worrisome messages to make sure he’s doing okay and taking care of himself.
✶ johnny of nct ⸻ old flame / confidant
acquaintances that crossed over into friends with benefits at one time or another, with the condition of no strings attached. it was a time after johnny’s break up with joy — things never go to plan, especially not this. with him wanting to make things official, so hee ended things out of fear of just being nothing but a rebound. unbeknownst to her, this led to johnny having the reputation he’s given himself now. after losing contact, seeing each other once so much time has passed makes the past they once shared feel like ancient history. seems that the two of them have crossed paths at the right time.
✶ danielle of newjeans ⸻ new friends / younger sister
though their friendship is still fresh, so hee cares for danielle like she’s the younger sister she’s never had. so hee does her best to help navigate her through the new found journey of dizzying fame and the industry itself. in the end, so hee has a little habit of doting on danielle, too.
✶ casual friends ⸻ jinyoung of got7.

THE SOUND OF NEON NIGHTS !
Neon Nights’ discography consists of two studio albums, four EPs, and four singles.
The band debuted for the first time on June 15, 2016 with the release of their single, YOU. At this time, it consisted of members Sungjae (leader, vocalist, guitarist), Eunbyul (vocalist, guitarist), Hwajung (drummer), Yumi (bassist), and Myunghoon (keyboardist). This lineup would release one more single, ASPHALT, on August 10, 2016. Both songs were subject to minimal promotions and sales, and tend to be overlooked compared to the rest of the group’s discography.
It would take until July 9, 2019, for Neon Nights’ next musical release. This came in the form of a pre-release single, WE ARE, from the band’s first Japanese studio album, INTENTION. The years in between saw changes in the band’s lineup, label, and producer. Eunbyul, Hwajung, and Yumi signed with current company Zenith Entertainment and added members Eden (vocalist, keyboardist) and Qiuyun (guitarist). Hwajung also became the band’s main producer, pivoting their sound away from indie rock. INTENTION’s second lead single, JEALOUSY, released two weeks later, on July 23. It was the band’s first track in English, and began to set the tone for their new sound. The rest of the album released a week later. INTENTION performed much better than anyone thought it would, peaking at number 9 on the Oricon album chart.
Neon Nights followed up their debut success a few months later with their first EP FIRST SIGHT and lead single “DICE,” released on November 10, 2019. As a song, “DICE” was received better than both of INTENTION’s singles, though their first album is considered to be better overall. The next year, they released another single, ORDINARY, and their second EP, ALIGHT. The latter’s lead single, “Lost My Way,” was a more experimental song that included Eden on the violin, and unclean vocals courtesy of Yumi. With four releases in one year, Neon Nights established a steady Japanese following.
They would eventually return to Korea for their third debut in 2021. On March 3, Neon Nights released their first Korean single, FLY AWAY. The promotions that followed were that of an idol group, until a sudden stop less than two weeks after the single’s release. Following that small debacle, Neon Nights disappeared for ten months. They entered and exited their electronica era with the release of another Japanese EP, NEW HEIGHTS, on January 27, 2022.
Five months later, on May 6, the band released their first Korean studio album, New Island of Utopia, a concept album inspired by Thomas More’s Utopia. They managed to finish a full four weeks of promotion this time. The album is generally considered by fans to be the magnum opus of their career so far.
Neon Nights’ most recent release came in February 2023 with their first Korean mini album, Midnight. The title track, “I Know I Love You,” features Fable’s Yejun and Mingeun. At the time of its release, it was surrounded by controversies of the featured singers having more lines than the band members themselves. Despite this, or perhaps because of it, the two groups have never performed the song live together.

*smacks face against phone like a window* wait. Did you watch it? Not too sure how to censor the emeto part considering there is actual crucial lore in that but if you got through it, congrats! You now know the newest tumblr sexyman! He's a purple rabbit that sucks. The creator wants to draw him in dresses very much. She simps for her oc an is afraid of what her hands have wrought. Imagine making a trending tumblr series. Poor Gooseworx. Oh!! And she confirmed that that one part was heavily inspired by The Stanley Parable. Damn. That tiny indie game gets around! Dragostea Din Tei by O-Zone. I wonder how the numa numa guy is doing?
I did watch it yes! I just kinda looked away while the emeto bit was happening. Still heard everything! Also I had a feeling that little area was tsp inspired JFNSKG empty office spaces are perfect for existential horror apparently
I'm not shocked that's how the creator feels about Jax. Sometimes you just make a guy and they latch onto your brain yknow?
AhnHyangyeon's cover of Dog Taryeong! I've had korean folk music on the mind after having to search for a specific kind. They're fun to sing, even if I don't know what exactly the songs are about

hi ! you can call me hope, and i'm really excited to bring forth to you all sebastian choi. he may seem cold and reserved at first, he tends to be quite asocial, but deep down, he's a very soft boy looking to make deep and meaningful connections, while also focusing on reaching his goals in life. he's twenty years old, born in 2002, and is a singer, composer and songwriter; he dreams of debuting in a band, and is the hugest day6, bastille and the 1975 fan. i can go on for ages about him, so i'll post some info below the cut; you can find his profile and his background information right here! if interested in plotting, please give this post a like, and i'll come barreling into your dms. if discord is preferred, please let me know !
Tumblr media
sebastian was born and raised in united kingdom, more specifically manchester, england; he does in fact have a rather strong accent when he speaks english, and it carries through to his korean.
he learned korean rather late in his life, around his teenaged years when he was living with his grandparents, they taught him the language, he never really paid too close attention to his classes or notes, always rather focus on learning music and new instruments– now at the age of twenty, his korean isn't as perfect as it should be, considered on the low-intermediate level, he can converse pretty well, but when it comes to reading and fast paced conversations, he stumbles and has a hard time.
his main instrument of choice is his voice. he loves singing, and thinks that his timber and tone is quite unique, and would bring something different and new to the industry.
he never received any proper training, picking everything up by ear and sound first, his grandparents taught him how to read music, everything he knows and loves is mainly self-taught or showed under the guidance of his guardians
he has an extremely sour relationship with his parents, currently estranged, he was neglected as a child, being left to be raised by nannies instead, while also being forced to take etiquette classes and private lessons in hopes to eventually take over their law firm which sebastian had little to no interest in partaking; he cut off all contact after coming out to them as a late teen, and no longer speaks of them. his grandparents have legal guardianship over him.
is diagnosed with atypical depression and generalized anxiety disorder; currently medicated and goes to therapy, it's one of his biggest struggles and actually never talks about it
has many hobbies, but his favorite by far would be video games and reading novels. he enjoys a lot of rpg like games such as pokemon, final fantasy, ni no kuni, octopath traveler, but also lowkey and chill games like stardew valley and harvest moon. for books, anything fantasy or sci-fi is his usual go to. he also really likes poetry and finds inspiration for his songwriting there.
his music taste wildly varies, he wouldn't stick to just one genre, but the one he leans to the most is alternative rock, lofi, r&b and indie type sounds.
he lives, loves and breathes fashion. every day he can be seen wearing something new or different, always testing the limits and defying gender norms; his closet is filled with soft fabrics, lace, silk, hoodies, jeans, skirts and dresses, corsets, thigh highs, high heeled shoes, boots, platform anything- whatever he finds pretty at the moment and he thinks will look good on his skin and empower him, he will wear it.
skin care buff, he struggles with self-care and is trying to instill it slowly into his life which is why he can be also seen going on morning walks and doing yoga, and taking care of his plant babies; he's trying to focus on things that make him happy and bring him peace of mind.

So, how should I begin with? You’re currently reading draft #1 of this blog, the pilot of this series, your guide and introduction before stepping in (hope you’re not going too far). You might see this post because you clicked the link somewhere on my X account, so I assume you know my name already.
And if you don’t,
Hello. I’m Saras. Gauri Sarasmita if you care enough. Of course, just like any other accounts, that’s not my real name. I’m hiding behind not-so-anonymity behind the name. Please only call me Saras unless I consider you close enough to call me with a sappy, lovely nickname. I am obviously not a minor to begin with, and do not follow me if you’re one. A virgo sun with scorpio rising and an earth sign moon, my chart is mostly ruled by earth sign by the way. I am probably one of the most DGAF person you’ve ever met (I do, actually). I don’t know much about MBTI but it’s always going back and forth from a feeler and a thinker in IXTP. Address me with anything but I love feminine pronouns better.

Likings
MUSIC: An enjoyer of almost every genre, from bedroom pop to rock, from KPOP to Indonesian pop, as long as it sounds good to me.
Lana Del Rey, Taylor Swift, Mitski, beabadoobee, Rina Sawayama, PinkPantheress, Caroline Polachek, Fiona Apple, Suki Waterhouse, Faye Webster, etc. The list goes on and on!
Mahadewi, Mulan Jameela (I do not support her act by the way), Pinkan Mambo (I also do not support her act), Dewa 19, Hindia, Nadin Amizah, and many indie slash unpopular singer I couldn’t recall.
Red Velvet, NCT (esp. Dream), KISS OF LIFE, ODD EYE CIRCLE. I often listen to many other KPOP (esp. GGs) songs casually.
Dream Perfect Regime, youra, BIBI, Miso, etc. (Simply: K-HH/K-RNB)
BOOK: Do not expect me to be a vivacious reader that read all the time. I almost never read at all. But I do fancy my time to read sometimes.
Indonesian literature, Ziggy Zezsyazeoviennazabrizkie is still my favorite author amongst all.
Asian literature. Vaster than point number one, I do fancy Asian literature esp. Japanese and sometimes Korean.
Anything heart-wrenching. Books that made me go insane.
MOVIES: Dare to say... I am a cinephile? Hypothetically. I don’t watch movies everyday but when I got the time, I would do it. Oh, also, Letterboxd is not updated. Not at all.
A movie that is ‘so-me’: One Million Yen Girl
My top five all the time: Gone Girl, Ada Apa Dengan Cinta, Us and Them, Eternal Sunshine of Spotless Mind, and Marie Antoinette.
HOBBIES: Or also known as, things that been keeping me sane. It’s probably a TMI and you should be grateful because I give you access to this part of my lore, but I love having hobbies. I love everything that’s keeping me sane. When I bored with my current ones, I would find more. This includes: baking, cooking, crocheting, sewing, gardening, and making crafts (and art).

I am not roleplaying as anyone I use as my profile picture in my cyber account.
