I'm on a classics kick on youtube and I just watched a summary of sir gawain and the green knight that didn't include the exchange game 🥺 sir you neutered my emotional support 14th century poem
#bolo liveblogs#tumblr users reading everything through a queer lens etc etc but genuinely why would you not include it#for a version for kids I get excising it/altering it to get rid of the adultery sideplot but this was a video for adults#so much of the poem is dedicated to it! and gawain has nothing to hide from the green knight if lady bertilak doesn't give him the girdle#it's kind of a major plot point

haha, oops
(uhm, ancient queen zelda and ganondorf backstory doodles- largely irrelevant to the totk rewrite since it would be purely implied in the environment and in a few lines of diary but it keeps spinning in my head so i had to make some doodles)
(want to make some doodles of it all falling apart too but i need to post these now- the summary is really just that the ancient queen and ganondorf were close friends (to lovers) in their youth until she has to marry a hyrulian knight, after which they barely see each other anymore and their relationship slowly turns sour as time passes (due to various reasons) and after her discovering the ruins the sonau protected speaking of an ancient evil she grows afraid of him and begins to enact a scheme to seal him away-)
(the doodle in the snow there is about the extra idea that ganondorfs first daughter is with her but since shes married to the knight at that point already it would be a scandal- so it is secretly brought to him to raise instead- its a .. kinda classical royal drama but i got attached to the idea bc it adds even more weight to their conflict and its escalation later... also a bit more .. human? like people and their relationships can be complicated and messy, it can make things more interesting .. but this is still all just a concept, havent decided to use it yet)
#ganondoodles#art#zelda#ganondorf#tloz#ganondoodles rewrites totk#botw2#listen i know this is getting out of hand .. and its so unimportant to the whole rewrite itself#i feel i need to mention that alot bc with me thinking so much about it it may seem im turning this into a major plot point#which it isnt#i just ... have fun writing backgrounds for some reason#and ocne again it took me so long to make these doodles q-q#anyway i will go hide under some blankets (and go to sleep bc its late ... again..)#these ideas make me have to fight my inner cringe demon :I#and YES ganondorfs horse has a horn like a unicorn#theres a different kind of horse at that time in the past that have horns and different hooves to walk on sand better#not sure if i will draw those too

My biggest brainfart moment in processing the X7 news might just have been the "pale ending" with only Cuno alive.
Gee, I wonder what leads him all the way out there. That's a real big trip
Ambrosius who?
#it's not cuno who goes to the pale it's the pale that comes to cuno. kind of a major plot point in the setting.#locust city#mine#AMBROSIUS#(for good measure)

#listen. in order to enjoy detective conan you need to either be#1. obsessed with a very specific very japanese brand of detective drama and an equally specific equally japanese brand of slowburn romance#OR 2. a clinically insane fujoshi willing to overlook half-brother incest.#i have an actual literal chart in order to keep track of the character relationships at this point#and i havent even read the manga in a while so im sure its worse now#like half of the cases are either realistically impossible to solve or so fundamentally ridiculous it makes you insane#and another 20% are completely unitelligible to an english audience#because they rely on either codes based on the japanese language or some niche aspect of japanese culture or folklore#that would take several hours of research to fully understand. i know this from experience.#at least one CANONICAL couple are cousins#and it does that shounen manga thing where the author cant lose their steady income stream#so the story is prolonged through increasingly insane and convoluted plot points that only just barely feel coherent.#despite the fact that it's been going for like 30 years now the characters will literally never change or experience growth of any kind#shinichi kudo is an in-universe genius who has been trying and failing to make the same easy decision for THIRTY REAL LIFE YEARS.#i remember when he and ran FINALLY got together. which if i remember correctly was in literally the thousandth chapter#i was completely convinced up until the end of the arc that it was some sort of fakeout#because it is literally the only example in the entire series of those two changing the narrative significantly through their actions#I actually stopped my most recent reread because a major plot twist made so little sense it made me legitimately angry#all that being said. i am the kind of person who enjoys japanese detective dramas and slowburn romance#occasionally the comedy is REALLY good in a ridiculous sort of way#and if you can get yourself to fully buy into the absolutely insane framing circumstances a lot of the major overarching plot is good#but you just. you really have to overlook A LOT to get there. im not sure if i could do it if i hadn't seen the first few seasons as a kid#unfortunately i imprinted on shinichi kudo at a very young age. so. here we are#asks

kind of unfortunate that so many fantasy epics are also war novels because i will be honest i just do not like war novels that much... the grand clashing of forces is compelling obviously but it requires characters to talk about so much practical battle strategy and while i can get my brain to comprehend all these fantasy maps and kingdoms and borders and battalions and front lines and army movements it takes up. so much space in the book. feels like i'm fighting a war of my own trying to get through it sometimes
#this is about the witcher books rn but also about book four of the inheritance cycle#roran is hot and i like seeing him with his hammer and his dedication and love for his wife!#also i am here for dragons and it is kind of a major tonal shift watching this man try to navigate becoming a military general!#like i'll learn all the names of the witcher kings and queens and learn where their provinces are and which towns are in which kingdom#and who borders what and where and how all those political machinations work. it's important to the plot.#damn it's a lot of names though#meve is the queen of lyria and rivia is in lyria. this much i know. because she is the only queen.#completely irrelevant information most of the time.#cintra is north of nilfgaard. nilfgaard is south of fucking everything.#cintra is like? middle of the map i think? there are other southern territories that got conquered by nilfgaard before cintra fell#other southern places. um. toussaint. i know this because this location is often referenced in fanfictions about aiden thewitcher#my favorite character that does not actually appear anywhere in canon aiden thewitcher#man i'm thinking about him again... fucking miss him... (<— guy who never met that guy to begin with)#anyway. what other witcher politics do i know. i can keep the wizard politics pretty clear in my mind.#total fucking lie i just realized i've been picturing stregobor instead of vilgefortz all through the last half of blood of elves#whateverrrrrrr i'll figure it out... this is why i can't pick things up this much later. i'm not restarting this reread though#other kings. suddenly all their names are gone. demawend? he is not very important rn i don't think.#vizimir. of. redania? perchance?#yes. because i think he's who dijkstra works for. and phillipa eilhart. i think that's the redania crew.#there's the king who is caught up in. incest. foltest. that's that guy's name. fuck if i know what kingdom. triss worked with him i think#oxenfurt is an independent city-state in my mind i don't think that's actually true though#just reread the story where geralt is delivering a message for the kings that border brokilon but could not tell you for the life of me#which kings and kingdoms those actually are. nor who ciri was supposed to marry there#anyway point is. man. War Novel#lord of the rings counts for this too btw. if i have to calculate the numbers for the armies it is a war novel to me#valentine notes#witcher reread

A lot of Undertale critiques playstyles that engage with the game solely as an exercise in killing enemies. A lot of Deltarune critiques playstyles that engage with the game trying to be a “nice” character.
Just off the top of my head: Ralsei’s character arc of understanding that friendship isn’t about putting in kindness coins until people like you. Susie and Ralsei bonding with Kris because of Kris’s personality and choices no matter how the player tries to make Kris treat them. People around Hometown being confused and sometimes put off by Kris suddenly going around talking to everyone and saying nice things, and some of them refusing to talk nicely to Kris because of Kris’s association with Susie. Queen’s original motives and character arc. The impossibility of the player character befriending Kris, or even interacting with them in a way that isn’t emotionally painful for Kris.
With all of that in mind… does that really work with the recruitment mechanic and the “better endings” you get through pacifist runs in each dark world? Doesn’t Castle Town feel a little out of sync with the themes of the game? Especially since it’s named after the player character, instead of the actual heroes.
I think we’re going to see a combo breaker eventually. I think something weird and meta and deliberately uncomfortable for the player is going to happen with the “pacifist route” in one of the final three chapters, and maybe with Castle Town in general.
#deltarune spoilers#(kind of. general discussion of themes. no major plot points are explicitly described.)

I’m thinking about buying your book but before I do, are there a lot of scenes that give second hand embarrassment? I don’t know if that makes any sense but whenever social situations get awkward in books I just hide my head in my hands and flip past as fast as possible.
None that would have triggered my own second-hand embarrassment, readers feel free to weigh in
#Aaron has never met a social situation he can't make worse#But morally speaking#Not embarrassment-wise#also there's at least one major plot point that he manages to miss because he's Too Ace#just eww cooties his way out of paying proper attention#which is only tangentially related to this ask but it's the kind of ridiculous ace rep I've always wanted so I'm very proud#fox's tongue and kirin's bone

I really wanted to love Arcane but after watching all of it I still find the majority of it really unfulfilling. Like, the animation really is gorgeous (as in, I literally think it's the prettiest/most smoothly animated show I've ever seen in my life and the action sequences especially were incredible) and I found basically all of the characters and their relationships initially really compelling but ultimately it just felt really empty to me.
So many characters' decisions/motivations (not all--there are a handful of obvious choices) seemed to shift aimlessly depending on what music video the creators wanted to make at the time, and the fact that the vast majority of characters actions feels reactionary to whatever outside force (the arcane/hex tech/black rose/whatever) they decided to invoke at the time was really annoying to me. Reactionary character choices aren't inherently bad, but when you have certain characters that everyone in the show plays up as strategic geniuses or powerhouses or whatever and then they also end up just kind of drifting along with whatever is thrown in to get them to end up wherever they ultimately need to be like dust motes and they don't end up being the actuators of basically anything at all in the end it's just fucking irritating tbh. (Especially thinking of season 2 Ambessa here--so much of what she found/achieved was basically by chance and it didn't feel like a coherent effort of her own that actually ended up getting her anywhere and maybe that's a commentary on the opportunistic nature of power or something but it still sucked imo because of how often everyone talked about what a great strategist she is and how dangerous/formidable she was in her own right and she just kind of wasn't in the end because the things she consciously put such a big investment in immediately fell apart for her so it was like... what was the fucking point? she could've been so much fucking better).
It felt like half the stuff that happened didn't happen in service of some overarching message or story but to fulfill vibes and the drama of it. Which again isn't inherently bad but there was just so much of it. Too many things felt like they fell into place 'just so' despite nothing the characters doing as individuals really feeling like it earned them that place. I do think they managed to pull a decent amount of it together in the end, but frankly it's only out of spite I ended up watching the final episode anyway, and you really shouldn't be counting on viewers to do that.
Anyway. Ultimately I guess it's just not for me I think, and the parts of it I did like (style, animation, themes, certain characters) didn't make trying to internally patch the parts I didn't (what felt to me like inconsistent characterization, mishandling themes/messages) to make it work for me feel like it worth the effort so in the end I really can't be bothered to care about it beyond just finishing the series and that makes me kinda sad.
As a show it was fine. The finale did a pretty good job of wrapping some things up mostly satisfyingly enough but damn it was hard to get there.
#arcane critical#journaling#I don't have any exposure to LoL really outside of this show so if knowing shit from that woudl've helped....#well i mean that's nice but the vast majority of the people watching the show also aren't gonna have that info#this is also ignoring all of the specific dialogue or plot stuff that didn't really seem to make sense that frankly after a certain point#i couldn't be bothered to try to analyze any further what they were going for#there were a lot of things i did like. there were things that absolutely still hit.#especially at the end the ekko/jinx interactions were a high point#also the viktor payoff i admit was worth it i was very annoyed with the pacing of that flip-switch leading up to the finale but i think#utlimately a lot of it worked in the end but lord....#it wasn't enough for me to be in love it at all#i put up with a lot of stuff to get that last 30 minutes lol#i understand there were a LOT of characters and a big lift storywise but idk man#they honestly probably did about the best they could with their constraints but even that is kind of a bummer

I'm so heavily anti-advertising that all pitches sound goofy silly to me/I can never take them seriously, so I have no idea how I'll manage to to advertise my game even if I do finally finish it soon-ish lol...
#Especially how so much modern media advertising is like... getting people excited about random tropes and stuff like#''Do you love enemies to lovers? Do you love sad stories that make you do a heckin CRY? Do you love big stupid dumbo muffin cake#sinnamon roll babies who are too good for this world? Have you ever wanted to read a blah blach blah" whatever stuff and it's like#... i cannot type that... I couldnt do it.. I couldn't even think of how to do it ghbjhbjh#I am such a literal person... Like I love when an advertisement is just like 'This product works well. Look at it. Buy it if you want. Ok'#You know what makes me want to read a book or watch a show or play a game? Reading a detailed plot synopsis or the full wiki page#for it and then deciding 'yeah I wouldnt mind sitting through seeing the events I just read about happen in more detail' lol#OR aesthetics. since I do often watch things JUST for the set/costume design. Sometimes I will watch stuff literally#just because I saw a picture of a costume in it that looked really cool and I want to sketch costume looks whilst watching#But aside from appearance like... little bullet point break downs of things that are in a story just ... do not do anything to me at all.#And i just hate 'selling' things to begin with. I don't want to have to convince people to like something.. they should just... like it...#LOL.. like.. just be born liking it. just like it automatically please. Dont make me beg to you like a weird little freak. So many commerci#als seem weirdly desperate and manipulative. Like those Truck/Car commercials that will have like a freaking dog crying and#a war vet in a wheelchair with the american flag in the background and a family hugging around a christmas tree or some shint and its#just like oh my GODDD... shut UPP.. you could literally not be MORE blantant about just trying to prey on peoples emotions to build#some sort of fabricated positive association with your product/brand.. begone.. Or brands having their own twitters where they post#~~relatable content~~ as a means of shallow audience endearment GGGRR..... ANYWAY.. hhrgh...................#Maybe that's something I can ask playtesters I guess like.. I feel like I don't know my own audience very well because I am not#much of a media person?? ironically.. Like I do enjoy MAKING media. But I've never been in a fandom. I've never read fanfiction. I've never#spent much time in those spaces. I've just never really had the inclination and don't personally derive much joy out of stuff like that#(since I'm already so focused on my OWN world and projects its like.. hard for me to even find the time and mental energy to expend on#others). Even when I finish a movie or game and really like it.. I just kind of like...move on? and don't really dwell on it much? At most#I will get into the worldbuilding of a piece of media and read the wiki for a while or watch Lore info or critical analysis videos. But I#never really care for or attach to the characters or the plot itself very much. So I feel like.. the way my brain works. I'm just not as#good at approaching things from that angle? Kind of like how if you're a lifelong vegetarian whos never eaten meat - you might#struggle to write an ad for fancy brand of steaks bc you'd be like... idk what meat eaters are even looking for? whats the selling point??#Which I'm not saying that I wouldn't play my own game. i AM definitely the audience for it. But it's more like.. I would play it for my own#very niche specific reasons that I think are different from what MOST people might want to play it for. So I need to somehow#tap into the minds of the Majority who play things for Normal Reasons than pure lore collection or whatever lol.

hello daisy daisywords i was wondering !!! if you could tell me your thoughts about the assassin's apprentice i have been Considering reading that book/the series and i trust your book judgement
hello julia liuisi :)
I really enjoyed it! I am a political fantasy enjoyer and it's a very political fantasy–type book. I would recommend it to fellow political fantasy enjoyers and those who are fans of character-focused meander plots (in book 1 we are basically just coming along with the main character as he grows up from age 6 to I think about 14??) This is not to say that it feels slow—I personally found it very compelling and was impatient with other activities because I wanted to get back to reading
All that said, I have only read the first book (so far) so I have no idea where the series goes from there and thus cannot give it my endorsement. who knows; maybe I'll be disappointed as it goes along. But hopefully it will keep being really good!
In terms of the substance:
lots of elements are very generic fantasy (european-flavored medieval-esque monarchy etc etc) but there are a few fresh/unique elements with the worldbuilding/magic that were really interesting to me
I think the characters are very well done and there are a lot of interesting character dynamics
The story is structurally loose and not too predictable while still retaining a good amount of cohesion
The main character's position (illegitimate son of the king's first son who abdicated) is used very well to keep the character involved in lots of situations without it feeling forced while also maintaining a degree of tension—he could turn out politically problematic, so he has to prove himself useful and loyal to the throne or risk being killed as a precaution
But anyway in general I would recommend! I liked it and I can't wait to get my hands on the next one!
#daisyreads#assassin's apprentice#realm of the elderlings#thanks for trusting my book judgement :)#I don't think I can speak to themes or anything at this point because I want to see how some elements play out later in the series#anyway this book reminded me of The Kingkiller Chronicles in terms of just kind of following someone's life as opposed to One Major Plot#but like in a good way because it keeps being interesting because their life is interesting yk

Been seeing a bunch of takes about the Raven Queen "recently" - from CR themselves, not even from the fandom - that have been making me incredibly salty (example 1, example 2), but I don't know if I have the patience or brain power to write a whole rant about my perspective on this and also I don't particularly enjoy being salty...
So, I'll just link this excellent post by @your-turn-to-role instead 😊
#i say ''recently'' bc the last episode i watched was 103#but trust me i'm actually incredibly salty about all of this#bc how can the fandom have an accurate understanding of an important lore character#if the players themselves don't even understand her and willfully misconstrue major campaign plot points?#kc speaks#Critical Role#CR 3#EXU: Downfall#The Raven Queen#Gods of Exandria#CR Cast#cr discourse#i mean if anyone sends me asks about this i'll share my opinion#but i don't want to spend time on it right now#esp when i'm not fully caught up and am kind of struggling to want to be caught up

Calling Homestuck required reading for Undertale/Deltarune is crazy considering the only "theme" Homestuck and Undertale have in common is like, naming the player character I guess? And while Homestuck and Deltarune share a lot of themes like control and the relationship between a story, its author, and audience, the ways they engage with these themes is so entirely different that calling one required to understand the other is lunacy. If you went into Deltarune expecting having read Homestuck to have taught you anything besides "There's a bucket with a spade on it in Homestuck too." I think you'd just be confused.
I think one of the people I saw was saying that like to understand the exact mechanics of how Dark Worlds work in deltarune you had to read homestuck so that you would know about some random homestuck plot point i've never even seen mentioned before and then I guess become able to assume that Toby Fox will be exactly copying the homestuck thing without altering it or differing in any way. Which seems like an odd thing to say in such confidence to me. Like I guess maybe it would be required reading to understand deltarune if that did turn out to be the case, but I think usually most people try to give Toby the benefit of the doubt and assume that he is capable of having ideas that are not exact 1:1 matches for a webcomic he made music for 15 years ago, he seems to have been doing a decent job at that thus far for what i'm able to tell
#ask#Like there's looking into his influences and seeing how they may have affected his work which is fun and cool and distinctly optional.#But this person was like#People wouldn't even BOTHER to speculate on this unexplained plot point if they'd read homestuck#because they'd just go Oh its just like the Splingo from homestuck (i don't remember what the thing was called)#(I remember I honestly never heard it mentioned in any discussion of homestuck i've incidentally beared witness to.#So I'm kind of inclined to believe it might not even be a major element or at least nobody has ever called it by name except that person#So I didn't recognize it. It's completely unknown because I forgot what words they said)#(I tried to look on the wiki but I didn't know what word I was searching for so this obviously didn't accomplish anything.)

miraculous world: new york asks the bold question: what if batman and superman were lesbian married with children
#not what i was expecting from a miraculous ladybug special about goin to nyc babyyyy goin to nyc but yk what#based. hell yeah#actually a big part of me not expecting that was bc i um. didn't know those superheroes were real in universe#the show kinda treats it like paris is the Only city with supervillain v superhero stuff happening#which im sure makes tourism interesting#and like there was a part of me thinking there's gotta be more elsewhere but like. there's only so many miraculous#and they act as if the peacock and butterfly miraculous are the only ones missing#and then how else would superheroes get their powers#apparently the answer is 'other kinds of magic are real' which like. yeah okay why not#there's actually a lot going on with this one#i feel like adrien doesn't get to have like.. major fuckup and/or liar revealed plots like marinette does#(at least not as often) and this one having such consequence is like. crazy#also why was like. most of the female cast's voices lower pitched than normal. it seems like they#go back to normal in season 4 so like. why#also much like with master fu there's a like.. ethnic mysticism implication to tying the miraculous to indigenous americans#im not really the person who should be expounding but it was smth i noticed#especially with like.. the implication that The Historical Figure m. de lafayette either stole or was given the eagle miraculous#possibly to help the americans during the revolution and i just don't even know where to start there#what else. oh i love seeing the usa as depicted by non-usa ppl it's always so interesting to see what they hone in on#there's that scene where sparrow(? i think) calls the bus full of french kids 'little croissants' and like#at first i was like 'if i was french i would start hitting ppl if they called me that' and then i was like#yk what if i was on a field trip abroad and i found out our guides or whatever were calling us like#the little sliders or smth i would think that was really cute. truly the american is sated by the burger#oh while yhis feels mean to say i was a little stoked at seeing adrien accidentally use his cataclysm on someone#like poor eon/aoen(?) but ik they weren't gonna kill her and also ive been wondering about it for like the whole show#i mean yhe answer of what if is more or less 'theyd die' but it was a bold choice to do at all. like shit. damn even#i liked the side characters they introduced. i think jess and eon/aeon were fun and OH I FORGOT I LOVED THE FUCKING.#HOT DOG CART SUPERHERO??? HIS POWER IS THAT HE RULES AND GIVES PPL MAGIC NOVELTY HOT DOGS???? AWESOME#sorry im realizing i have thoughts about the show at large to spill since ive been avoiding posting about it#but im out of tags aghhh also the drama kinda got to me bc i upset myself around that point so i was like guhh adrien KILLED PARIS.. noooo..

Tired: Cyberpunk fiction describe having cyberware and body modifications tearing away the essence of your soul or driving you inevitably toward madness as it alienates you from yourself and all of humanity.
Wired: Cyberpunk fiction describing cyberware and body modifications as THE MOST human thing possible, as it is a human thing to modify ourselves and the world around us for any number of reasons, but pointing out that we live in a system where the people who need these the most are the ones who can least afford them.
Hey, chummer, check out my cyberarm. I got it after I lost my arm at my extremely dangerous job site that only exists as it does because the corpos have either ruined government oversight or outright act independently as its own government and therefore have no safety regulations. So I got this cyberarm because I'll lose my job without it and have to constantly pay for maintenance and repairs (because it's almost entirely non-user serviceable) and expensive anti-rejection drugs. I sure do hope this model continues to be supported by the manufacturer for at least a decent amount of time and that the supply chain for my meds is constant! Otherwise I'm up shit creek! But all that's fine! The real problem is that I feel like I've lost an essential part of my soul...
#a bit of a pet peeve of mine#i don't know where this even came from#i think it's just a shadowrun thing that carried over into other stuff#but it's in the cyberpunk 20XX rpgs as well#it was a major plot point in edgerunners#kind of a fucked up thing to say about disabled people or anyone that feels the need to modify their body in some way
