we finally caught up on WTNV
#this is the first and only time we've ever been caught up on it. we've been listening since 2019 or so#most of how we caught up starting from 203 was by reading the transcripts and listening to portions of audio#we weren't able to handle doing the full audio episodes#it's. uh. i need some time to think about things. since we've started engaging more in fandom spaces#even if all we're doing is reblogging fanart and all that#i've been having a harder time openly being a fictive. and i always feel strange talking to singlets that are fans of my source#i feel scared that my presence is going to make them uncomfortable to engage in media. that i'm doing something wrong by existing nearby#i don't want to deprive anyone of anything they enjoy. i don't want people to feel awkward talking to me because. well.#i'm blorbo from their podcasts or whatever. i want to be recognized as a person. just a person who happens to also be a fictional character#i feel bad reblogging things from people who are into my source and tagging it as Cecil's tag even if its unrelated to WTNV#because i don't want them to feel like i'm imposing myself and my strangeness on them. and i don't want to give them the same media issues#that we deal with. a lot of our media issues comes from psychosis yes but a part of it is also from being fictives and knowing about them#like i know so fully well that i'm extremely weird and not in the good way. that most people don't and won't believe me about myself#and i don't want to weird them out. i'm terrified TERRIFIED of accidentally letting a WTNV fanartist find out that i'm Cecil and#getting blocked for being some crazy weirdo or whatever. i just. it's a big worry i guess is what there is to say#i want to talk to people and i want to be myself but i think on some level i wish that my self was something else#like. i don't want people to feel like they can't treat fiction as fiction just because i exist#i don't want them to shy away from discussing character's traumas or putting them in  weird AUs or whatever#do whatever the hell you want with it my presence shouldn't scare you off from it#i'm kind of repeating myself at this point so i'm gonna stop so. yeah#if you read this full thing we'd appreciate a like on this if that's okay just for paranoia reasons#rambling#Cecil's tag

"Are you coming up or what?"
The question was still ringing in my ears. It caught me completely off guard. 'Up' as in up to Spencer's apartment? Where he lived? I knew he lived somewhere in theory, just like I knew deep down that he wasn't made in a test tube.
Without noticing I've undone my seatbelt and I'm hopping out of the car, following him around to the front door. I guess I am coming up.
Spencer's apartment is more cosy than I thought it was going to be. It's warm and lived in. It's not big, but I think that might be what makes it homely. Something about the way he behaves had me thinking it would be fully decked out in stainless steel or glass or something. But it wasn't pristine, it was messy.
There were books bursting from the shelves that lined the walls of the apartment, along with books laid open over nearly every surface in the place, it looked like he was in the middle of reading all of them, and honestly, I didn't doubt it. Maybe I'd misjudged him. He even had some photos of what looked like his family, and maybe friends, even some of the BAU, lining his walls or propped up on his mantle. He had little trinkets and souvenirs on his shelves too, evidence that he'd been around the country for reasons other than a case. I would never admit it to him but there was a real charm to the place.
Once we got inside he took off his bag and suit jacket, tossing them on the desk just inside of the door. I wasn't sure what I was supposed to do, and he seemed to pick up on my awkward energy.
"You can make yourself at home" he said, his confident streak remaining. I had no idea what to do with that. What would even make me comfortable in Spencer Reid's apartment? I took a seat on his sofa and just sat with my hands resting in my lap. Really not even sure where I should look without feeling like I was invading his privacy. Even though I wanted to. I think it was morbid curiosity, looking for clues on who this man might actually be outside of the BAU. What I really wanted to do was stand up and walk around, soaking in every bit if this place as if it would help me decipher our messy relationship.
He returned to the living room a few moments later, two mismatched mugs in his hands. He places one in front of me on the coffee table. I pick it up and take a sip. It's lemon and ginger, how did he know what kind of tea I liked? I held the mug in my hands inhaling the steam in an effort to relax. When I look up he's watching me, arms folded across his chest.
"So, how does this thing work. What's the game plan?" I honestly have no real idea. This evening really got away from me, I was still expecting to snap out of it and wake up in my bed at any moment.
"Well I can't say I've ever been in a Sandra Bullock movie before either so this is uncharted territory for me too" I say with a chuckle, trying to ease the tension. Even a little. I can see him crack a small smile but hides it almost instantly, his face hardening again.
"My sister, Margot, she's getting married in like 4 months." I can feel myself tense and I shake out my shoulders, I have to remind myself that he's agreed to this already, "Fuck it, I'm just going to be honest with you. My Mom's mostly freaked out that I'm too attached to this job and that I'll just never find someone again." I shouldn't have said again, fuck. I hope he didn't pick up on that. Who am I kidding. "Even though, I'm not sure I care if I do or don't?" he doesn't say anything, like he's waiting for me to continue. I know I've shared a little too much already but I keep going.
"Margot's 2 years younger than me, I introduced her to her fiancé Philip, we met in college, he's a sweetheart. But since they've gotten engaged Mom's gotten exponentially weirder. I think she's convinced I'm fully going to die alone, as if that would be the worst thing that could ever happen? Anyway, she's been trying to auction me off to all these guys, using this wedding as an excuse. I'm not sure how much of that phone call you actually heard earlier but Mom was trying to sell me on this guy, David, and I just… snapped." I look up at Spencer and he unfolds his arms, leaning in ever so slightly coaxing the story out of me.
"David, he uh, he worked for my father for a while back in high school, filing documents and stuff, busy work mostly. He used to make out with me when he was at our house after school, but then he'd ignore me in the halls the next morning. I know it's because I was a pariah back then or something but I didn't want to think about it today and I just got worked up. I shouldn't have let on that you were my date, I was just going to ask if I could bring Garcia or something, and I'm sorry." I cover my face in my hands, "I'm insane, you can back out if you want to."
I can hear him move from his spot on the opposite side of the sofa, he takes my wrists and gently pulls my hands from my face. He looks into my eyes, "I'm in this now Y/N, what do you need me to do?" he asks, and there's a genuine earnest in his voice that I think I've only ever heard a handful of times. And it's never been directed at me.
"Okay, well we've got a few months before you ha–, wait, fuck!" I throw my head back, there's already a complication, "shit" I curse under my breath. His eyebrows knit together, sitting upright.
"What's the matter?" he asks.
"I forgot about my Mom's 50th, it's next month. They've got this whole huge party planned back home in upstate New York. I've gotta go and they'll probably want to meet you, or they're gonna have a load of questions for me at least. I can try and get you out of it I'm sure"
He gets that cocky look again, he shakes his head "I don't know, I've always liked a bit of competition" he reclines back into his corner of the sofa, taking a satisfied sip from his own mug before speaking again. "You know, if I've got to learn enough to pass as your boyfriend in a month, surely that means you've got to learn enough to pass as my girlfriend within the month, no?"
Oh god. What have I done, why didn't I think this far ahead. "I mean, yeah I guess you're right." I had to remember he was doing me a favor. I had to get over myself. "Okay, if you're sure you're up for that?" I ask, and he nods, and I think he looks excited, or maybe he just finds the whole situation funny.
"If anyone's up for the competition it's you" he says, and I'm not sure if that's a compliment or a dig but I nod in agreement.
He takes another sip of his tea, collected and relaxed. I can't help but notice how at ease he is when he's in his own surroundings. I'm so used to seeing him sitting at a desk surrounded by paperwork, or combing through file after file in the make-shift office in a small-town police station, usually flustered or anxious, or antagonizing me whenever he wasn’t. This was a different Spencer. Completely in control, at ease.
"Alright, shall we get started then, we can't really afford to waste any time can we?" he was actually sort of right, so I nodded. It was only now occurring to me that I'd have to share parts of my personal life with him if I wanted this plan to work. We already knew the basics about each other, I'd read his file when I started at the BAU, I'd read everyones. And I feel like it was safe to presume he'd done the same.
His eyes bore directly into mine as he leaned forward, I think he was enjoying how uncomfortable I must've looked.
"How about I ask you some rapid-fire questions and you have to answer 'em?" he asks, and it's as good of a plan as any, and I can't think of any other suggestions, so I nod.
"Okay, shoot." I say, unsure and nervous, so I brace myself. I'm just grateful that he's making my life easier rather than harder for what feels like the first time since I met him.
I really should've known better.
He leans in, "So Y/N, first question, when did you lose your virginity?"
I almost choke on the mouthful of tea I just took, that can't be what he just asked, and he looks like he's savoring my shocked expression.
"I uh, I don't think you need to know that?" is all I can get out.
"Really? You think that's something your boyfriend wouldn't know about you?" he's right, but I didn't want to admit it outright.
"I feel like I sort of already hinted. It was that same guy David, I was 18, he was 19. We had sex on the couch while my parents went out one evening. I kept my bra on the whole time, he came, I didn't. It was all very standard stuff." I wasn't sure what compelled me to add that last part. I think I was giving in to the open honestly thing. "So what about you Doc?" I challenged.
He didn't seem embarrassed, or even shy. "I must've bloomed little later than you" he admits with a soft chuckle, "Vivian Stewart, I was 21, she was too. It was the last semester of my last PhD and I figured I must be missing out on something. And I sure was" he smirks to himself. "I came, she did too, 3 times. I did a lot of research ahead of time" he mirrored my story and I rolled my eyes. It was hard not to feel a little impressed but I tried with everything I had to stifle it so he couldn't tell. I wish it didn't make me feel something but it did. I gulp down the mouthful of tea that's been sitting in my throat.
I have to shake myself back to reality. I can't give him the satisfaction of throwing me. "My turn." I command, "When was your last relationship Dr. Reid?" I ask, "I mean like, serious one, not like hook-up" I clarify before he can ask. He thinks on it for a moment.
"I'm not sure what you classify as fully serious, but I guess it was this girl, Rebecca, we dated for a while when I first joined the BAU but it didn't work out. What about you?" he flips it back.
"So that was what, like 6-ish years ago?" I ask, he just nods.
"Mine was like 3 years ago now I think. I met this guy Nathan on my first week of college, we dated for like 4 years. He moved here for me when I got accepted by the BAU." I had to stop myself from delving into the detail. It was a long time ago now but it still hurt. "Long story short, the hours were demanding and they got in the way more than I would've liked. We ended up splitting a couple months after I got the job." I tried to play it off like it wasn't one of the more devastating things to happen in my life. But something told me he’d registered that, so he didn't push.
His energy picks up and he looks at me with a grin, but there's something a little sinister behind it. "I've got a more fun question for you." he leans in closer to me, "Y/N, when was the last time you got laid?" I just looked at him in shock.
"Excuse me?"
"You heard me, I can go first if you really need me to?" his voice didn't waver,
"Fuck you Reid, I know when it was!" I snapped back at him. I did have to think back a little farther than I'd like to pull up the memory.
"Met this guy in a bar when I was out with Pen one night, we went back to his place and hooked up." I say as deadpan as I can make it.
"Well that's not very exciting is it?" he jokes, "Did you at least cum that time?" I know he's just trying to rile me up, but I answer anyway.
"As a matter of fact I did" I earn back a little of my confidence.
"I'm so happy for you, but you did manage to avoid my initial question" fuck "when was this exciting night of yours Y/N?" he probes, like I really, really wished he wouldn't. I could lie, but I'm sure he'd be able to tell. I cringe before I can say it.
"About 8 months ago" I mutter, just low enough for him to hear.
"Sorry, did you just say 8 months ago?" He nearly shouts in disbelief, he seems to find it funny.
"Hey fuck you Spencer!" I go on the defensive, "When was the last time you even got laid?"
"Like two and half weeks ago" he says, confident, and still laughing, "Wait wait, when was the last time you got yourself off? I know you're not waiting 8 months!" he giggles and I think I could kill him. I know I kept giving him outs but was it too late for me to just get up and leave?
"I'm not doing this with you if you're just gonna make fun of me Reid, I get enough of that at work" I get out, my voice is serious but I'm trying to hide how awkward all of this is making me feel, and I don't know that I'm doing a very good job.
I can tell that's gotten to him, he relaxes and eases up on the giggling. "Look okay wait Y/N. I'll stop, I'm not actually trying to make fun of you. I was being serious, I think stuff like this is important if we're gonna have to be comfortable around each other enough to seem like a real couple. Plus, it'll just help break the ice?" he shrugs. "But you don't have to answer if you don't want to."
I soften, because I agree, even thought I hate that he's right. "Fine" I collect my thoughts, "2 nights ago I'm pretty sure." I regret it almost instantly, but breaking the ice is supposed to feel awkward.
"Same here actually," he chuckles, "what'd you do?" I'm so startled by the question I almost forget how to answer.
"I, uh, my, my vibrator? I just felt like uh, I watched some..." I still can't force out a whole sentence. It's not like I was always awkward about sex or anything, I could talk to Garcia, or honestly probably any of the other team members about it. But with Spencer it didn't feel as comfortable. He still sat calmly, smiling just a little.
"Same here, 2 nights back, but with my hands I guess. I wonder if we were doing it at the same time?" he mutters the last part gently and my head goes a bit fuzzy. My eyes drift away from his face and settle on his hands, the mug he's holding looks so tiny with his fingers wrapped around it, I wondered how they'd look wrapped around my-
"Okay I think that's enough for one night, don't you think?" I jump up off the sofa and turn, mostly so that he doesn't catch the blush thats creeping from my neck up to my cheeks. And because I don't know what I'll say, or regret saying, if this conversations continues on its current trajectory.
"Sure," he says, standing up next to me, and I want to move further away instantly, "you're probably right, and it's getting a little late now anyway" he glances at his watch. Ushering me back towards his front door and opening it up. Before I can walk out he lightly touches my shoulder to turn me back to face him, and I wonder if he can feel the heat radiating from every part of me.
"So are you free next Friday after work?" he asks, and I'm so flustered I almost forget why, I just nod. "Perfect, how about we come here again and we can dive into preparing? You could also make a start on getting these onto a hard drive?" he gestures to the antique looking hardbacks adorning the shelves.
'Sounds great!" I perk up, feigning enthusiasm, "See you then!"
"Well, see you Monday morning actually Y/N" he smirks as I walk out the door. Fuck, he was right.
I really hadn't thought this through.
——
The weekend was a bit of a blur. I decided to try and put some useful information into a document for Spencer. It felt strange to try and condense my life into as few pages as possible. I knew Reid had an eidetic memory, and nothing would necessarily overwhelm him. But I also knew that he was someone that the team relied on to fill in a lot of the gaps in the rest of the our knowledge. So I felt bad about dumping a load of information on him, especially considering it was a favor he was doing for me.
I'd complied the majority of my life into a 15 page document and printed it out. Hopefully that would address most of what my family could guerrilla attack him with. There was also something unsettling about the imbalance. I was going to give him so many of the intricate details of my life in a little file, whereas all I really knew about Spencer was what I'd taken it upon myself to learn about him throughout the past few years.
I'd read all of his work while I was in college, given how he was the gold standard of getting into the BAU at a young age, I wanted to know who this guy was. I think I'd pictured something different. And I couldn't deny there was something enticing about finally getting to know him after all of these years of working together. Maybe this could actually be fun, or interesting at least.
----
I arrived early on Monday morning. I thought I was first into the office as usual but Garcia was sitting in my desk chair waiting for me. The second she saw me walk in she tensed, she must've known we were the only people in this early.
"What happened! You've been avoiding me all weekend?" she asked, and she was right. I'd drafted enough texts to her, trying to explain what the plan was, mostly without wanting to admit that she was right. Maybe I was stubborn.
"Alright okay, I drove Reid home." I admitted, dropping my bag by my desk. She rolls her eyes at me, dramatic as always.
"Well I knew that already Y/N damn! What happened next?"
"Fine, we went into his apartment and talked for a while. Trying to sort out the details, get a handle on things I guess?" I said, unsure of how much I should actually give away about our conversation.
"What things!?" She shouts, standing up from my desk,
"I don't know Pen, like logistics and stuff, I still haven't decided how I feel about that little stunt you pulled on Friday night!" I let my frustration get the better of me, and maybe that's why I haven't talked to her. It could also be because I know she's able to read me like a book and I'm not even sure how I feel about this whole situation.
"I call bullshit." She counters, "I know you were relived as hell when I sorted that whole thing out. You would've had anxiety tummy all weekend if I hadn't called Spencer!" I just go silent, she was right. I'd gotten so caught up in the whole, 'how to have a fake boyfriend' that I'd almost forgotten about how stressed I was about Spencer hearing my call in the first place.
"Okay, shit" I sigh. "Maybe you were right Pen. We're actually meeting up again this Friday after work to make a plan for the next while, so I guess that's progress?" I shrug, trying to play it off like this whole situation doesn't make my stomach flip.
"Ohhhhh! So like a date?" She probes, her enthusiasm rising drastically.
"Oh my God Pen no! Like an appointment at best" I diffuse the situation
"Ugh that's no fun" she says, not even trying to disguise her disappointment.
As if on cue Dr. Reid walks through the double doors into the bullpen. Both Garcia and I wave, overall awkwardly, but making an attempt pretend like things were completely normal and like nothing had changed since the last time we were all in the office together.
Penelope heads to her office as the bullpen starts to fill up quickly. Less than an hour later though Garcia's back at my desk and there's a new case that needs the teams attention in Boston. I follow her into the conference room and wait for the rest of the team to join. Spencer follows a moment later with 2 cups of coffee in his hands. I can see my mug in his hand and my automatic response is that he's messing with me. But he places my mug in front of me in the circular table before taking the seat next to me, listening to Garcia's briefing. I don't know if he's ever sat next to me in this conference room, at least not by choice.
I barely had any time to finish my coffee before I have to say goodbye to Garcia and hop on the jet to Boston.
----
The case was grueling. More so than usual. It was wrapped up late on Thursday night and the team decided to fly back home first thing on Friday morning. I was exhausted. Even if there was enough time to get sleep each night it wasn't like I got any. Whenever a case got on top of me like this it made it hard to rest, or get it off my mind at all until it was wrapped up. So even though it was over, that didn't mean I wasn't exhausted.
Hotch gave the team the rest of the day off, given that we have until submit our paperwork by Monday. I wasn't sure if Spencer's invitation from the following week still stood. I didn't want to ask, partly because I was so tired, but also because I was scared. I wasn't about to show up at his house in an effort to have a heart to heart, or hand him a condensed version of my life story on a manilla envelope if he was as drained as I was.
Standing by my desk I packed up everything I'd need to get my paperwork done over the weekend, I was just about finished when Spencer snuck up behind me, perching himself on the edge of my desk. "So, you almost ready to go?" he asks, like it's the most obvious question in the world. I couldn't really hide my surprise.
"Oh yeah. That's fine, I mean, if you're still cool with that?" I ask, and I hate how flustered I sound, like he makes me nervous.
"Of course, why wouldn't I be?" He chuckles, standing up straight.
"Cool, gimme a sec and I'll be good to go."
I pack up the rest of my stuff quickly and we make our way out. There's something that feels a little eerie about the two of us being in an elevator together alone again. It was a different kind of awkward to how it felt a week before hand. It almost felt like a kind of tension rather than a hatred or a rivalry. Either way we rode down in silence.
Once we got to the basement Spencer walks out of the elevator and walks straight to my car without having to ask. I unlock it and he hops into the passenger seat. Like this is a natural interaction. Something we do all the time. And I don't hate it as much as I thought I would.
"So," he says, buckling up his seat belt and breaking the silence, "do you know how to get to my place from here or do you need directions again?"
"Well I've got to turn on the engine first" I tease, hoping he picks up on the reference to our last car ride, he chuckles like he does.
"Are you hungry?" he asks
"Starving."
The delivery guy get's to Spencer's apartment at almost the same time we do.
---
Once the food's been demolished the two of us finally sit on his sofa, the same sides as the week before. "So, shall we get back into this?" He asks, sitting forward slightly to pull a notebook out of his satchel on the floor. It's small and lavender, and it's got a pen clipped into the spine. He cracks it open and flips to a specific page.
"Sorry, what's that?" I ask, pointing to the book, he looks confused,
"They're my notes?" he says, like it should be obvious
"Your notes?" I ask,
"My notes on you." he smirks, again like I'm silly for even asking.
He had notes on me? He had a whole notebook on me? What was even in that thing?
"You've got notes on me?" I ask, my hands reaching out to grab it, but he retreats faster than I can catch him. "What have you got in there that's so serious?"
"Nothing." and his tone's a bit too stern and I don't really want to push it when he's being so uncharacteristically nice to me.
"I've actually got this ready for you" I pull the file out of my own bag and toss it to him. "I'm not sure exactly what you need to know but that should be the majority of it at least."
He opens it up and glances over the the pages. It takes him all of 2 minutes to get through the whole thing. It feels unsettling that he's taking in a boiled down version of my life while I'm just sitting on the opposite side of the sofa. Trying to avoid the attention I pipe up.
"Um, hey, maybe it would be a good time for you to show me where to make a start digitizing your books over here?" I stand up and make my way to the shelf. He jumps up off the sofa and walks toward me, visibly excited.
"That's actually a great idea, I thought that the theses from my degrees could be a good place to start, since I'm pretty sure they're not backed up anywhere." he guides me to a section of the book case by the window. There's a series of leather bound hardbacks, the same gold font embossed on the spines. I recognize all of them, pulling out the first one.
"This is my favorite" I say without thinking about it and he does a double take, clearly thrown.
"You've, uh, you read my work?" he asks, completely puzzled. I'm sort of proud that I've managed to make him this awkward, and I nod.
"Mmhm, back before I joined the BAU actually. Before I really knew you" I regret saying the last part, it comes out a little meaner than I really wanted it to so I back track. "Spencer, I read all of your work while I was in college, you were like the gold standard. I don't think I slept more than 2 hours a night throughout my PHD because I was just trying to get as much done as you." and his face softens at the admission. But it takes him a moment before he responds. Leaving the two of us in silence a little too long.
"I had no idea" is all he says.
"I think this one was best" I say propping up the one in my hand, "you get a bit cockier as you move on” His eyebrows shoot up in surprise, "but I'll start with all of these I guess" I grab the matching books and stack them in my arms. Walking over to his desk and setting up. Glancing at the clock it was only 7pm so I decided to just make a start.
Spencer didn't contest. Letting me just get settled at his desk, I pull out my laptop and begin work on transcribing the first volume. After a few minutes he silently places a cup of tea down beside me and goes to sit on the sofa. The time rolls in quickly after that, each time I look up at Spencer he's carefully combing through the file I'd given him. Re-reading it and making little markings in his lavender notebook. I'm not really sure what I put in there that was worth making a note on but clearly he was reading between the lines on some things. That little notebook was like a profile of me.
When he seemed like he'd finished writing he pulls out his phone, scrolling through it aimlessly like I'd never seen him do before. It made him look so normal. His eyebrows knit together as he's looking at something on his screen and he stands up. Making his way over to me at the desk and shows me what he was looking at.
"Who's this?" he asks, "This guy you're with?"
I recognize the photo instantly. It's from a few years earlier, Nathan and I on the beach, my head resting on his chest. He'd taken it while we were on vacation celebrating our anniversary. That was about a month before I got into the BAU, I had no idea that was going to be our last anniversary. I gulp down the emotions that it stirs. I'm mostly over the whole thing by now, but looking at old photos like that, photos of happier times, it can still sting.
"That's uh, the boyfriend I was telling you about last week. Nathan, we broke up not long after I joined the BAU?" he nods, but he's smart, and I kind of figure he already knew that.
"Ah alright" he takes out the hardback and jots another note down. Maybe he's trying to get a read on me.
"What are you doing?" I gesture to the phone,
"It's research, do you not think that if you and I were really dating that stalking your social media profiles would be on my agenda?" he's smug, and he's right. But I guess I just didn't expect it from him.
"Well that's not really fair now is it? I can't reciprocate, you've got no social media presence whatsoever!" he finds that funny, letting out a deep chuckle and tucking his phone away in his back pocket.
"Maybe so, but that imbalance is hardly my fault. Besides, you've read all my dissertations apparently..."
"Bastard" I joke, slamming my laptop shut and throwing a pen from his desk at him so that it lightly bounces off the top of his head.
"Hey, there's no need for violence Y/N!" he rubs the spot beneath his curls, "Maybe it's time you took a break actually?" he says, sitting himself back down on the sofa.
I was reluctant to admit it but he was right. My eyes were starting to go a little fuzzy after looking at the screen for so long. I stand up and stretch my arms out above my head, feeling my spine stretch out after sitting for so long, letting out a low groan. Spencer waves me over to the sofa and I join him.
"How about we go back to basics?" Spencer asks with a small grin, and I can't help but let out a long sigh.
"I thought I was taking a break, no more questions" he just laughs at me,
"Relax, you're not that interesting, it's just a simple question." he states, and I'm not sure if I'm supposed to find it funny or offensive
"Ugh, fine, shoot"
"Well, actually it's two questions" he corrects, "what's your favorite movie, and what's your favorite snack?"
I'm confused mostly by the fact that it actually is a simple question, I was expecting something a lot more contentious, but also because he looks eager to know the answer.
"I'm not really sure what my favorite movie is to be honest, one of them is Night of the Living Dead?"
He nods to himself, and jots it down in the notebook again, "Alright, I can make that work" he stands up off the sofa before turning back to me, "and snack?"
"Peanut butter cups I guess?" I respond and he grins ear to ear, which is a completely new sight, and I like it way more than I thought I would.
"Perfect, gimme 2 minutes!" he leaves the living room and wanders towards the kitchen.
Spencer returns a few minutes later with a DVD, a packet of peanut butter cups , and a thick knitted blanket gathered in his arms. He drapes the blanket over me and gently places the peanut butter cups on top of it before popping the DVD into the player and sitting down beside me. I'm not really sure how to process any of the situation. Am I about to watch a movie on Spencer Reid's sofa? Sitting next to Spencer Reid?
"I... I, uh, thought you were just asking for your notes?" I ask, pointing at the notebook resting in his lap. He picks it up and throws it onto the coffee table.
"Sometimes I find experience is the best teacher, don't you?" he asks before pressing play, “And besides, it should keep you quiet for a whole 96 minutes” of course.
I can only nod in agreement, I'm not really sure what I'll say if I try to speak. I get myself cosy under the warm blanket and we watch the movie in near silence.
Once the credits roll Spencer finally speaks up, "I actually went to see a screening of this last month downtown, there was this little old horror movie fest-" I cut him off without really realizing, I'm just strangely excited that we've genuinely got something in common.
"Holy shit, I was there!" I say, more enthusiastic than the situation calls for.
He laughs at my excitement, "Well, I guess we have more overlap than I thought, that should probably help with the whole charade." he stretches his arms up over his head and let's out a small, gentle yawn. I'd been enjoying myself more than I thought I would, or would ever tell Spencer, that I'd almost forgotten that we'd both been on a case for almost every waking moment of the past week. I really should feel a lot more drained than I do.
I was just after midnight when I suggested that I head back home. I offered to take some of the books home to work on throughout the weekend but Spencer insisted that I just work on them whenever I came over again. I sort of felt like I should thank him for the evening when I was on my way out the door, or give him a quick hug, no that felt wrong. In the end all I could really muster was a lousy, "goodnight" and a meek wave on my way out the door before I drove home. And couldn't get to sleep.

Summary:
You and your boyfriend, Marcus, break up and you have a girl's night with Natasha and Wanda.
Part 2 | Masterlist | AO3

Marcus <3
Hey, can you come to my place after work today? I need to tell you something important.
You were on your lunch break at a café you normally visited with your two best friends, Natasha and Wanda when Marcus texted you. You let out a little scream reading over the text message and turning the phone to face your friends. They reacted the same. Everyone. Yes, everyone had been waiting for Marcus to propose for 2 years now. You'd been together for 4. You were close with his family, as was he with yours. His mom thought of you as one of her own, accepting you into the family the first time you were introduced to them. And after analyzing that message, it seems that all your attempts at sending him rings and hinting at an engagement were going to work.
You
Of course, my love :) See you then!
"Ahh! I'm so happy for you. Can I pretty please be a bridesmaid?" Wanda said with a huge smile on her face.
"Oh- I mean.. Sur-" Natasha cut you off.
"Girl, he hasn't even proposed yet," she laughed. "Let the engagement sink in first and then start planning." she winked.
"I suppose I should take it one step at a time. Speaking of which, don't we need to be heading back to the office?" you asked.
Both girls looked at their phones and agreed. You cleaned off your table and then caught a cab to head back. On the way, you couldn't help but think about how Marcus would propose. He was never an extravagant person who went all out. Early on, that caused a bit of tension.
Things weren't always perfect with Marcus. The first year you both fought a lot, always arguing over something minor. Only after a year of dating, you had decided that it would help if you moved in together, that way you could spend more time with each other.
Marcus was your first everything. First kiss. First love. First time. It wasn't hard imagining the rest of your life with him. After fixing the problems earlier in your relationship, everything finally had felt right.
***
After enlisting the help of Wanda and Nat shortly after work, you were dressed up in a red blouse, your favorite pair of skinny jeans, and some casual black heels. While Wanda curled your hair, Nat did your makeup. Needless to say, you looked stunning. After texting Marcus that you would be slightly late to his place, you quickly locked your apartment and called a cab.
When you arrived at Marcus' place, you knocked on his door. Expecting to see him light up at your outfit, he just looked tired. He was dressed in khaki shorts and a t-shirt, not ready at all to go out. Maybe it had been a long day for him at the office? He opened up the door fully and invited you in.
"Everything okay hun?" you asked.
"Uh, yeah. I think you should sit down for this," he ushered you to his couch. "And why are you wearing that outfit?"
You frowned at his question. You had felt confident getting ready. Nevertheless, you turned your frown upside down. Expecting him to get on one knee and pull out your dream ring, you were sorely disappointed at his next words.
"I'm breaking up with you,"
"What?" you said, tears threatening to spill from your eyes. Trying to maintain a straight look on your face when he said those 5 words. He had to be joking?
"I've been thinking for a while. We were just a college couple. I mean honestly Y/N, we've been fighting since the beginning." he sighed.
You were now full-on sobbing. Had you just been wearing rose-colored glasses throughout the entire relationship?
"I- I thought you were going to-to propose? I mean, I got all dressed up. I just thought" you let out a breath. "I thought we were going to be together forever,"
He sat beside you, wondering whether to comfort you or not.
" Y/N, you been amazing it's just," he took a deep breath in gently grabbing your chin and turning your puffy eyes and red face towards him. "I don't wanna marry you. I don't wanna be with you. I just can't do this," he pointed his finger back and forth at you and him. "anymore,"
You looked back down after he said that. Your heart was broken after his confession. You were too afraid to look up at him so you mumbled.
"I should go, goodbye Marcus,"
You got up and walked to the door, and heard him behind you.
"Goodbye Y/N. See you around, okay?" you nodded.
He opened the door and you walked out into the hallway. Your first instinct was to call Wanda and Nat. They would know what to do. Wanda answered the phone and you heard Nat in the background.
"Y/N, CONGRATS!!" you assume she heard the sobs in the background. "Y/N are you okay? What happened? Where are you, we'll come and g-"
"No," you managed to spit out. "I'm fine, um I need to come over and ex- explain,"
"Oh, okay. Do you want me to stay on the line with you or?" Wanda asked.
"No, I'll be there shortly," you cried, getting into the elevator.
***
When you showed up to Wanda's doorstep sobbing uncontrollably they assumed the worst. When Nat and Wanda went to hug you, your knees gave out and you just continued to cry.
"H- he br-" you stumbled on your words. You couldn't believe you'd ever have to say this. "We broke up."
"Oh my GOD. What did he tell you?" Natasha said.
Wanda repeated, "Yeah, what did he say?"
"Well," you sniffed trying to recall what happened before your emotions took control of you. "He didn't say a lot. He told me that he didn't want to marry me. That was what stood out the most,"
"Oh, that douche bag can go to hell!" Natasha said.
"No, no, no. It's okay- It's just a lot to take in at the moment." You hesitated. "Could we maybe have a girl's night tonight?"
"You didn't even have to ask," Wanda said. Walking you to her couch and finally closing the door to her place.
Both women understood your pain. They comforted you the best they knew how. That night had turned into a pamper night, even though all three of you had work the next day. You all stayed up watching movies, eating ice cream, and trying to get your mind off Marcus.
After your fourth movie together Wanda wanted to cheer you up. Sure, she was never good at advice, but she'd do anything for her best friend. She grabbed your hand during the credits scene, prompting your attention, you turned to her.
"Honey, cheer up. You'll find someone else who will love you even more,"
"Will I though? I just think love just breaks and burns and ends..." you sighed.
Wanda let go of your hand and looked to Natasha.
Nat shrugged. "She's right Wanda. Don't let a man tie you down Y/N. You'll heal and never look back on the day that that douche broke your heart,"
You just nodded. You needed to heal.

"Should we go to that charity event the school is holding on Friday? It sounds kind of fun." Ryujin sipped on her drink, while you went through your closet, showing her different outfits over the facetime call.
"What's it for again?"
"I don't remember, but the Golden State Warriors dj is going to be dj'ing. He's pretty good."
"Yeah he is. I mean, I'm down, especially if it's for a good cause."
"Okay, I'll grab us tickets when I head to campus."
"You're not even gonna ask Jimin or Tae?" You chuckle.
"Why would I? They do everything we do, they don't know anything outside of us." You shake your head.
"Cut them a little slack."
"Boohoo, they'll say yes regardless. Bring Jungkook!"
"I mean, I'll ask, but I'm not gonna force him."
"Oh quit, I'm sure he'd be happy to spend time with you." She looked at you through the camera. "K, let me see that outfit."
"He said casual." You showed her your outfit in the full length mirror.
"Absolutely, yes! You're fucking hot." She squeals, automatically solidifying your outfit for tonight. It, thankfully, wasn't too cold in the Bay today, so you throw on a grey distressed denim mini skirt, a low-cut light grey longsleeve, a belt and some heeled combat boots. You ruffled and fixed your hair a bit until you were satisfied with your look, picking up the phone once more to turn your attention back to Ryujin.
"Thank you."
"No problem, babe. I hope you have fun! Did he say where you two were going?"
"Nope, it's apparently a surprise."
"Ugh, I love him already." She gushes, causing you to shake your head. You dabbed a bit of lip gloss and pressed your lips together to spread it out before spraying a perfume cloud for you to walk through. Sooner or later, knocks came at the door.
"Okay, I think that's him. I'll talk to you later?"
"Call me as soon as you get home. I want to know how big his dick actually is."
"You're sick. You sound exactly like Tae, you know that?"
"We're not talking about him."
"Love you, bye!" You abruptly hang up on her, unsure of why the hell you deal with her and Taehyung's crude comments. You grab your bag and open the door to see Jungkook standing there with a small bouquet of flowers. He peeks his head over the bouquet with the cutest smile you have ever seen.
"Hi." He slightly scrunches his nose and pulls you into a hug. Goddamn, does he smell good. "These are for you." He hands you the bouquet.
"Jungkook, they're beautiful. Thank you." You take it into your kitchen and place it into a vase really quickly before stepping out. You eye him from head to toe, and boy is looking like a whole ass meal in the denim outfit he has on. Like, who in the world could pull off this outfit like that?
"You look amazing." You blush. "If you ever get cold, just let me know, alright? I can spare my jacket."
"You're so sweet."
"Just want to make sure you're comfortable." He shrugs. "You ready?"
"Depends on what you have up your sleeve."
"Nothing extreme, if that's what you're thinking." He laughed. "I hope you enjoy it, though."
"Thanks for planning all of this, by the way."
"No biggie. I'm just glad to finally spend some time with you." He does a little run to open the passenger car door for you before hopping into the driver's seat. Immediately, he gets the car started and turns up the heat to make sure you're comfortable. The radio is softly playing Zayn's sHe, with Jungkook softly singing along.
"Wait a minute," You chuckle. "Do you sing?" He smirked.
"Maybe."
"Hey, that's not fair. Sing louder."
"No, now I'm shy." He chuckled.
"Why? It's just me."
"Yeah and I just wanna impress you and not make a fool out of myself."
"You won't! Please." You pouted, making him shake his head.
"Ugh, Y/N. That's going to easily become a weakness for me if you keep pulling that pout." You keep pouting. Eventually, he gets over himself and starts to sing a little louder than earlier, causing your heart to flutter at how angelic he sounds. He ends up laughing towards the end and shrugging it off, his cheeks tinted with a rosy tint as you shower him in compliments. Swoon. You were so into the moment that you didn't even realize Jungkook was taking you across the bridge to San Francisco. You and your friends don't come to the city much, strictly because there's too many goddamn hills, parking is expensive as fuck, there's too many one way streets and people just get crazy as hell [like crossing the street when it's not time to walk?!]. It was a little calmer back home and that's all you guys needed. You watch as he parks the car effortlessly on a steep hill before coming over to your side to open the door for you.
"Whew, that's gonna be a workout later." You look back at the steep hill that you're gonna have to climb after eating dinner, you assume.
"Don't worry, I got you." He laughs. There's actually a lot of people out for a Tuesday evening that you end up hanging onto his arm to get navigate the random sea of people. He walks into Brenda's French Soul Food - nothing too fancy, but nothing too casual. The waitress brings you both towards the back end of the restaurant and out into the patio, where there are christmas lights hung around the fence and outdoor heaters posted. He pulls out your chair before sitting himself down, the waitress putting down your menus and cups of water.
"Ohhhhh, my god." You say with heart eyes looking at the menu. You had heard about this place from so many people, and you were impressed that Jungkook was able to score reservations being that it's always so busy due to its popularity. "I'm so excited! I've been wanting to try this place."
"Goodjob, Jungkook." He says, patting himself on the back. "If you're happy, that's all I could ask for." The waitress comes back to offer recommendations, which you both include in your orders in one way or another. Although packed, the restaurant was able to pump out orders quickly and efficiently so you and Jungkook weren't sitting around for too long without food.
"So, how's Jin in class?" You almost choke on your food even though this is something you should have expected. You really wanted to avoid speaking about him tonight, but you knew it was inevitable being that you were out with his brother.
"Um, he's alright."
"Just alright?" He rose his eyebrow and chuckled.
"No, sorry. I mean, he's a really good teacher. Definitely better than our last professor. Everyone in class loves him."
"That's cool. Yeah, he's really smart and wise. I've always looked up to him."
"How long has it been?" You weren't sure how to ask the question, but Jungkook understood what you were asking.
"I was a sophomore in high school when my mom met his dad." You're silent for a moment, allowing him to continue on if needed. "I had a really hard time at first, you know? The whole stepfather thing. My anger was moreso directed towards my mom and my stepdad for awhile. But Jin helped me out a lot. He helped me come to terms with my feelings about everything and he stuck by my side, always had my back whenever I got into arguments or bickered with one of our parents." You nodded, suddenly feeling guilty even though you and Jungkook weren't a couple.
"So, you two are really close." He nodded.
"Yeah, we are. I really don't know what I'd do without him. He's taught me a lot and helped me grow. Plus, Namjoon, Hoseok and Yoongi have been around too. They treat me like their own little brother.”
"That's sweet. It's nice to have that kind of relationship with your sibling and their friends." You chuckle.
"It is." He nods. "Do you have any siblings?"
"Ryujin, Taehyung and Jimin." He laughs.
"From the club, right? I met your friends, they're fun people."
"They're too much, honestly. I'm the only child, but we've all been stuck to the hip since freshman year in college."
"That's cool that you guys have been together since then." You give him a toothless smile. "I think it's pretty awesome that you guys are tackling grad school together too."
"Initially, we all had different plans, but Jimin had some big goals for himself including grad school, and it played a huge role in my decision to do grad school, too. Then Ryujin followed, then Taehyung."
"Cute."
"Speaking of friends, there's this charity event at school on Friday." You look up at him, a small smirk growing on his face.
"Uh huh?"
"And I was wondering if you wanted to come along with us. They really want you there."
"That's sweet. But, what matters the most is that you want me there."
"I wouldn't be inviting you if I didn't, right?" You bit your bottom lip.
"Touché. Of course I'll go with you, beautiful." He does a small nod before sipping his water. "Should we show up in matching outfits?" He joked, causing you to snort.
"Honestly, that seems pretty entertaining. Cute, and entertaining."
"I'm down if you are." You stuck your tongue out playfully.
"I'm game too."
"Let me know what you're wearing then."
"I will, whenever I figure that out."
"Take your time. Just know you'll look good in anything." You blushed. You both continue to talk over the remaining bits of your food before Jungkook calls for the check. You watch as he scribbles his signature onto the receipt before standing and sticking his wallet into the back pocket of his jeans. While exiting the small and crowded restaurant, you hold onto his hand, feeling him grip it tighter as you both successfully make it out. The night isn't too cold, and you sure as hell knew it wouldn't be after you conquered the hill that Jungkook parked on.
"Fuck." You say as you stand on the street, eyeing the steep hill in front of you.
"Come on." He says, slightly bending down for you to hop onto his back.
"Ouu, I don't know if that's a good idea--"
"Y/N, I promise it's okay. Come on." He laughed. Hey, if he was willing to do this, then why not? You hop onto his back, his arms wrapping your legs tightly around his waist, while you clung onto his neck. "See, not so bad, right?" He says, sprinting up the hill, making you laugh and hold onto him tighter.
"Shit, I am so sorry. That was probably a workout. Right after we ate, too."
"Nah. It wasn't anything." He scrunched his nose. On the way back over the bridge, Jungkook is heading towards Lake Merritt. You both are singing along to songs and joking around about topics that pop up here and there. When he parks his car, you notice a whole crowd of people gathered by the lake, which was a little unusual for this time of night. He grabs your hand and gently caresses the top with his thumb as he walks you over towards the crowd. To your surprise, you realize people are gathered here for a water lantern festival. Your eyes light up, making Jungkook smile at how excited you look.
"Jungkook, what the hell! How did you know about this and I didn't?" He shrugs.
"I have my ways." He says, his voice low and deep. You playfully shove him before you make your way over to grab lanterns to decorate. You and Jungkook sit off in a more quiet, calmer part of the lake, silently decorating your lanterns and writing your wishes along with it. What exactly did you want to wish for?
Happy friends, happy family. Happy you.
Whatever happiness meant to you.
To have Chance look over you.
Jungkook is done pretty quickly, but he waits for you to finish, not questioning what you've written since he figures it's a private matter. He shows you his lantern and his cute little stick figure drawing of his family and friends. You giggle, watching him gently lay his lantern in the water, giving you leverage to do the same with yours. You stand closely to him, his body providing you some warmth as you watch your lanterns float off into the lake and illuminate the night along with the others.
"Ready? We have one more thing to catch." He snakes his arm around your waist and gives your side a gentle squeeze. You simply nod, following him back to his car. He takes you about 30 minutes away, exiting and pulling right into a lot two street lights down from the exit. He pulls up to the ticket booth, buying 2 tickets for Tenet at the drive-in movie. You squeal and clap in your seat excitedly, also not knowing this was still around.
"Did you really do your research to plan this date?"
"Yes and no? I've been here before, and I thought it would be fun to take you. The restaurant and the lantern festival though, yes." He parks his car as instructed, turning the radio to the correct channel in order to hear the audio. "Wanna hop in the back so we have more room?" You nod, getting out of your seat just to hop into the back. He leans over into his trunk, grabbing water bottles and assorted gummy candies for you to snack on in case you wanted some. "I hope you're having fun so far."
"I am." You respond softly.
"Okay, beautiful. If you say so." He chuckles. He moves the driver and passenger seats forward so that you both have room to spread your legs a bit. At first, Jungkook made sure to give you enough space so he wouldn't make you uncomfortable, but over time, you felt yourself sinking closer and closer to his body until he had his arm draped around your shoulder, while part of your body rested on his. His hand gently caressed your arm, occasionally sending goosebumps through your body at how soft his touch his. You glanced over, admiring at how focused he was on the movie. He must have felt you looking at him because he quickly looks over and blushes as he nibbles on a gummy worm. "What?"
"Nothing, it's just cute how focused you are."
"Damn, are you not into it?"
"I am, but it's kind of hard to follow sometimes."
"Yeah, it's definitely one of those movies." This time, his gaze on you is a little longer than before. You don't know what takes over you, but you plant a kiss on him, making him smile into the kiss. He doesn't say anything, but proceeds to rest his free hand on your neck, pulling you close and into another deep kiss. Your hand grips onto the side of his shirt, your tongues slowly fighting for dominance. The sounds of wet kisses fills the car and tunes out the movie audio. You can feel the moment intensifying, both you and Jungkook letting out breathy moans in between kisses. Suddenly, the thought of Seokjin quickly flashes in your mind, the past nights you've spent with him and the nasty shit you both have done to each other.
You lightly gasp as you pull away, but it wasn't obvious to Jungkook that something had disturbed your peace.
"Sorry, I—" He tries to save face just in case he was in the wrong about something.
"No, I just— I wasn't expecting it to get that intense." You lied. You knew damn well.
"It's okay." He chuckled. "I would never rush you into anything, Y/N. Okay? We can take this slow." He gives you a genuine, warm, reassuring smile that causes you to swoon. Why the fuck was he so good? Just why? How was this even fair right now?
All you do is simply smile and lean back onto him. He's back to caressing your arm and shoulder, giving you small pecks on the top of your head every now and then to reassure you. Part of you wondered if this is what Seokjin had taught him over the years - how to properly love a woman and be a gentleman. But then, that quickly fades when you remember the situation you're in with him.
Well no, you're not in anything with him. You needed to stop doing this to yourself.
When the movie ends, you both climb back into the front seats to make your way back home. You feel the exhaustion hit you, all the fun and adrenaline you felt today slowly come crashing down. Jungkook parks in the passenger loading zone, throwing on his hazard lights before walking you up to your apartment.
"Jungkook, thank you for tonight. I really enjoyed it and had a ton of fun with you."
"I'm glad." He cups your face and gently places a kiss on your forehead. You weren't satisfied with it though, so you tippy toe as you hold onto his hand and kiss him on the lips. He leans into the kiss, deepening it for a quick second before pulling away. "Let me know the details about Friday, okay?"
"Okay."
"I'll call you tomorrow. Sleep tight, beautiful." He smiles and licks his lips as he watches you walk in, feeling utterly content with how the day went. You feel the same way, smiling to yourself as you throw your bag onto the floor and prance into the bathroom to get ready for bed. You felt the butterflies in your stomach every time you thought about Jungkook and his smile, or his soft lips against yours.
Butterflies that kept your mind off of—
[jin] 10:04pm: Are you still with Jungkook?
You roll your eyes at the text. You hadn't pulled out your phone all night, so you're also seeing the numerous messages from your friends in the group chat, too.
[jimin] 7:45pm: have fun tonight, Y/N!
[taehyung] 7:50pm: ^ ditto. use protection, young lady
[taehyung] 7:50pm: think about mr. kim's feelings
[ryujin] 7:56pm: taehyung kim, shut the hell up. do you have anything better to do?
[jimin] 8:01pm: i really hope she doesn't pull out her phone during the date -__-
[taehyung] 8:05pm: lmfao you guys, chill out
[taehyung] 8:06pm: i'm sorry y/n, im just kidding. have fun tonight and be safe, love you
[ryujin] 8:10pm: CALL ME WHEN YOU GET HOME Y/N! i wanna know deets, remember! and ask him if he wants to join us on friday!
Unbelievable. Your friends were unbelievable, and that was an understatement. You don't respond to the group because you figured you'd call Ryujin in a bit and update the boys over the week. But to Jin's text - fuck.
You were literally just tucking him away in the far, far, far dark, deep depths of your mind.
[y/n] 11:38pm: I was, but now I'm home.
[jin] 11:39pm: Yeah, he just texted me back. Sorry.
[y/n] 11:40pm: It's okay.
[jin] 11:43pm: Okay. Have a good night.
He hates this. Why the hell would you do this to him? Grace is upstairs sleeping while Jin is trying to clean the kitchen up like he promised. Suddenly, his phone goes off, signaling a call coming in.
Jungkook.
"Hello?"
"Oh shit, yes! You're awake!" Jin chuckles a bit.
"How was the date?" Not only was he asking out of curiosity, but wanted to know how you were doing during the night. Completely none of his business but he couldn't help himself.
"God, she's fucking amazing. A-and-and beautiful." He yells into the phone excitedly. "She's so exciting. I can't wait to take her out again. I just wanna keep spending time with her." Jin is pretty unamused on the other line. Thank God he isn't on Facetime so he didn't have to fake this facial expressions hearing about Jungkook's feelings for you. "S-she- I mean, we kissed."
"Oh?" Jin asks, tongue pressed against his cheek. What the fuck.
"Yeah, we were making out during the movie. It got pretty intense, but it didn't get any further than that. I didn't wanna rush her into anything."
"You think it could have escalated?"
"Yeah honestly, but I wanna do right by her, you know?" Jin can tell how serious Jungkook was starting to become about pursuing you, and he had never felt more competitive until this day. He just wanted you to himself, and he wanted to be the one to kiss you and make you feel things you've only dreamed about.
Not his brother.
He, too, wanted you just as bad. If anything, more.
"It sounds like it was a pretty successful first date." Jungkook is beaming through the phone, he didn't have to see his face to know that.
"It was. It was such a good night." Jungkook chuckles. "By the way, I'm going to that charity event on campus on Friday. Are you and Grace going?"
"Probably not."
"Well, if you both are free, you should swing by. It'll be nice to see Grace."
"Yeah, I'll ask and see what's up." Jin sighs. "I should probably get to bed, I'm pretty tired. I'm happy to hear the date went well, kid."
"Thanks, dude. I'll talk to you later, get some rest."
"You too." Jin hangs up the call, silently hitting his fist against the kitchen counter as he lets out a deep sigh. More than ever, he wanted to keep you wrapped around his finger. He wanted to keep you there, no matter how selfish that sounded. There was no way he was going to let you unravel.

fem!reader x drew mcintyre
reader was just a regular American girl who has some royal family members in Scotland. Drew is the heir to the Scottish throne, and he needed to marry to become king. Drew and reader were married only days after they met, making reader a Scottish princess. both were against the wedding. now, the two want nothing to do with each other unless they have to attend a public event, until one night ...

***
You're getting ready in your chambers. The maids are helping you get ready for the annual New Years Ball that the royal family of Scotland puts on every January 1st. Your long Y/H/C colored hair is being curled by one of the maids while another does your makeup. A third maid is making sure your dress and shoes are ready for you for when your hair and makeup are done.
Balls are not your thing. Actually, going out in public with your husband is not your thing. It's only a few times a week but you're not all about the fake smiles and hand-holding when you were never supposed to marry him anyway.
Being a princess was not on your list of things to be in life. You were an up and rising professional wrestler. Your great Aunt Blair asked you to come to Scotland to meet someone while you were wrestling on Ring of Honor. You had no idea that she meant that she actually volunteered you to marry the heir to the Scottish throne.
The maid doing your hair throws some little white flowers with a sparkly silver lining on the end of the petals. The maid doing your makeup has done a silver smokey eye look with some highlight, blush, and nude lipstick color.
Your nails were done earlier in the day. You got an acrylic French manicure. The nails are kind of long and oval-shaped.
"Princess," one of the maids says. "Yer dress is ready for ya when ya're."
You look at the ballgown hanging up in your large closet and sigh softly.
Once your hair and makeup are done, you get up. One of the maids grabs the dress. You take off the long, silky robe and the dress is pulled over your head. You're zipped up and the maids puff out the skirt.
The silver ball gown is very poofy with a small trail. The dress is strapless and very sparkly. The neck dips down a little bit. The top is tight and gets poofy at the waist. You put on silver heels to match the dress.
You put on silver earrings and a necklace, as well as your diamond engagement ring and silver wedding band.
There's a knock on your door as one of the maids put on a silver tiara since you are the princess of Scotland. Another one answers the door.
"Oh, yer highness," she says, bowing. "The princess is almost ready."
A male voice says, "Thank ya, Miss Arabel." Your husband, Drew, is at the door.
After some finishing touches, you're finally ready. You walk up to the door and look at Drew, who's dressed nicely in a black and white suit with a silver tie to match you. His hair in a neat ponytail on the back of his head. He's also wearing his wedding band.
"Ready?" he asks. You can hear the annoyance in his voice.
You nod and mumble, "Sure."
Drew hooks his arm with yours and the two of you head down to the ballroom.
You wait at the door with Drew's father and brother. The royal family is announced together. Drew's father, the King of Scotland, says, "Y/N, ya look stunning. Doesn't she, Drew?" He looks at his eldest son.
Drew just nods and says, "Sure, it's a little too much though."
Anger rises within you as Drew's dad signals for the door to be opened. The guard at the door opens the door and another guard yells, "Introducing the Royal Family of Scotland. The king, Andrew, Prince Drew, Princess Y/N, and Prince John."
Music plays and a fake smile forms on your lips as you follow Drew's father into the large ballroom. Most of the room is made of gold and a large chandelier hangs on the ceiling.
"The princess looks stunning."
"Look at the princess."
The comments make you blush and the fake smile turns real. Drew looks down at you without you knowing.
You and Drew mingle, talking with guests together. Drew steals occasional glances at you but you don't notice as you laugh with the guests.
Being an American, you're still learning about all the Scottish traditions. You've only been over here for a few months so everyday is a learning experience. The guests ask what you did for the holidays with Drew and his family since it's your first time in the country.
"Oh, we celebrated Christmas the way we do in America," you explain to the guests who asked. "Christmas Eve dinner, presents on Christmas morning, and Christmas dinner on Christmas Day. Drew and I also watched some Christmas movies that night. I've heard that Scotland's Christmas traditions are similar to America's."
You added the part about Drew to make it seem like you and your husband actually spent time together on Christmas. After dinner, you went off to your separate chambers and you watched Christmas movies over FaceTime with your friend who now works in NXT, Candice LeRae.
The guests are all very interested. Then the music changes and Drew asks, "M'lady, may I have this dance?"
You look up at Drew and say, "Uh, yeah. Sure." He takes your hand and you excuse yourself from the small group and walk to the dance floor with Drew.
He takes one of your hands in his and the other goes to your waist. You hold up your very poofy skirt so you don't trip.
The dance is slow at first, to make sure you don't trip. Once you're both in sync with each other and you're sure you won't trip, Drew speeds up the movements.
"Wow," Drew says. "My toes aren't bruised yet. Looks like those dance lessons 're paying off."
You stare up at Drew, who is standing tall above you at six foot five. "You're so funny, Drew," you say, rolling your eyes. "I almost peed from laughing so hard."
Drew says, "And there's the sarcasm I absolutely just love about ya."
"As if you love anything about me," you mumble to yourself.
The air turns tense and he says, "Ya could only wish that I'd love ya, or anything about this relationship."
Rolling your eyes, you say, "Maybe if you spent time with me, maybe you'd actually start liking things about this relationship. You only married me to become king when your father relinquishes the crown in a few months."
He looks around and says in a hush tone, "Believe it or not, Y/N, but I married ya for several reasons. Yes, I needed t'marry t'become king but I was excited to start a family. Then ya got here and were nothing like I expected. Yeah, I have an attitude with ya but that's because ya have one with me all the time."
Annoyance rises within you and you say, "I gave up my career to come here. I gave up my dreams of wrestling for WWE and winning titles for the company. I'm not happy I'm in this marriage, Drew. I married a stranger and you're still a stranger to me."
Guests start to look at you and Drew so he takes your hand and whisks you off to a more private area in one of the hallways. You trip over your gown as you follow closely behind Drew.
The door closes and now you're alone with Drew. He looks at you and says, "I'm sorry that ya gave up wrestling to come here and marry me, Y/N. I'm not that happy about it either but if I wanted t'succeed my father then I had'ta marry someone, and that someone is ya."
"You could've picked someone in the country, Drew," you say. "Seriously, you had to pick me."
Drew says, "Yer aunt spoke very highly of ya when she would visit my father. When my father told me I needed t'marry, my mind went t'ya. I didn't think about the repercussions ya would face when I told my father I wanted ya t'be my wife."
Sighing, you say, "Wrestling was taken away from me and I moved away to a country to marry a prince. It's been overwhelming for me and you are nowhere to be seen. I've been taking princess lessons for months and I'm still struggling. It doesn't help I'm alone, Drew, in a foreign country. I don't even have wrestling anymore because I 'can't risk getting hurt'. It's not a fairytale ending like in the books."
There's a silence between the two of you before Drew says, "It still can be"
You look at Drew and ask, "What does that mean?"
He meets your eyes and suddenly you feel butterflies. You've never felt butterflies in your stomach since meeting Drew.
"I just thought that maybe before the coronation that maybe we can go t'America and see a few wrestling shows," he says slowly. "I'm a big fan myself."
Everyday in Scotland is a learning experience. You didn't know that he was a wrestling fan.
You say, "I'd, uh, like that."
Drew slowly takes your hand and he says, "I also thought that maybe we can share a room together like a married couple should."
Confused, you say, "It was your idea to have the separate chambers since we 'didn't have to be married within the four walls of the castle'. At least that's what you told me."
He says, "Contrary to popular belief, I actually do like ya, Y/N. Why do ya think my mind went t'ya when asked if there was someone I wanted t'marry? The girls in this country are beautiful, don't get me wrong, but ya. There's just something about ya that peeks my interests."
You stare up at Drew and for a second before you say, "We've been married for months and this is all coming out now."
"We've never had this conversation until now," Drew says, shrugging his shoulders a bit. "By the way, ya do look stunning in that dress. Shows yer personality really well."
You get flustered and say, "You said it was too much."
Drew chuckles and says, "I'm just that good of a liar, I guess."
A little bit of annoyance creeps up and you say, "Stop lying to me, Drew. I'm confused and now I have a headache because of what you're saying to me."
He says, "I know, I'm sorry. I can walk ya to yer room if ya wanna go lay down and get rid of that ache."
You soften up a bit and say, "Yeah." That's all you say. That's all you feel like you can say.
So, Drew walks you to your chambers. You notice that you're still holding his hand when you arrive at the door of your room. He turns toward you and says, "Whenever ya would like t'go see those wrestling shows in America then let me know and we'll go, okay?"
You nod and look up at your husband. "Thank you, Drew," you say. "Offering to go see some wrestling shows in my home country sounds really nice."
Drew says, "It's been a while since I've been to America and I'd like t'see where my wife is from."
My wife. He said you were his wife. That was the first time behind closed doors that he's referred to you as his wife.
There's another silence between the two of you before you say, "I'm, um, going to head inside. Take some medicine and lay down."
"Can I stop by later t'make sure yer okay?" he asks slowly and cautiously.
You consider it for a moment before you say, "Yeah, sure. Just come in if you do because knocking may make my headache worse."
Drew nods and says, "Alright."
You look up at Drew and the air between the two of you thickens a bit. Your heart races in your chest as you wait for Drew to do something.
He pushes a loose curl behind your ear before he kisses your cheek lightly. Your heart almost jumps out of your chest when his lips touch your cheek. You look at him as he pulls away from you slowly.
"Goodnight, in case yer asleep when I come check on ya after the party," Drew says quietly.
You nod and say in almost a whisper, "Goodnight."
He shoots you a smile before walking off to the party again. You stand in the hallway for a second, playing with your engagement ring as you watch him walk off.
For the first time in this marriage, Drew's actions and words made you have butterflies in your stomach and made your heart race.
If you didn't know any better then you might be falling for your husband.
***
The moment between you and Drew has melted away by morning. You walked down to breakfast early the next morning and he doesn't even acknowledge your presence at the table.
"Y/N, are ya feeling okay?" Drew's dad asks. "Ya left with Drew and only Drew came back."
Nodding, you say, "Yeah. I just wasn't feeling well so I went to bed a little early. That's all."
Drew finally glances at you and his dad says, "Feeling better this morning, I hope?"
"Depends," you say, looking at Drew. "Is your eldest son going to keep ignoring me like he is right now?"
His dad looks at him and asks, "Is there something wrong?"
You say, "No, nothing's wrong." You get angry and stand up. "Excuse me but I think I'm going to go back to my chambers. I'm not feeling well again."
After you're done talking, you leave and go back to your room. You've just closed the door when there's a knock.
Reluctantly, you go and answer it. Drew stands in the doorway and you say, "Oh, great. It's you. Come to promise me something else then ignore me again?"
Drew says, "Look, I'm sorry. This whole thing is new to me, Y/N. I'm 35 and I haven't been in a serious relationship like this."
"We're not even in a relationship, Drew," you spit at him. "We're legally bind to each other for you to become king."
He says, "I'm trying here, Y/N!" His voice is rising. "I'm fucking trying. We met, were engaged then married within weeks. I'm trying t'be a good husband in public while also trying t'form a relationship with you behind closed doors. It's not easy. Especially because I do want a relationship with ya, Y/N."
You glare at him and say, "Ignoring me isn't trying, Drew."
He says, "I know, Y/N." He rubs his face. "God, I'm terrible at communicating how I feel and this is whole new territory for me."
Deciding to lighten the air, you say, "If you want to be king then you have to work on communication skills there, Drew."
Drew looks at you and says, "I'm gonna pretend that I didn't just hear ya say that."
You smile and say, "Come on, Drew. Lighten up a bit. Here, tell me the truth. How do you feel when you're around me?"
Your husband blinks at you and thinks for a second. He says, "I, uh, I feel nervous. Ya make me a little nervous, Y/N. My heart races when ya're around me, especially when we touch. Um, when ya walk into a room, I feel a knot in my stomach. I don't know what it's called-"
"Butterflies," you say, helping him out. "They're called butterflies in the stomach. It's what happens when we're around someone who we may or may not like."
Drew looks down at you and says, "Sounds like yer talking from experience."
You nod slightly and say, "I am."
He blinks at you and starts to say something before someone walks into the hallway and say, "I apologize for the interruption, your highnesses. Prince Drew, your father has requested your presence in his chambers. Immediately."
Drew nods and says, "One second." He turns toward you. "When I'm done with my father, I'll come back and we can keep talking. Okay?"
You nod and he smiles before walking off quickly.
That's when you notice when there are butterflies in your stomach again.
***
It's hours later and you're still waiting for Drew. You've asked your maids if they've seen him and they've all said that he's still with his father.
You're watching Freaky Friday on Disney Plus when the doors to your chambers open. A red-faced Drew walks in and you ask, "Woah, Fire Face. What's wrong?"
"My father is what's wrong," Drew says. He's pacing around the room and you pause the movie, getting up and walking to him.
You say, "Talk to me, Drew." He doesn't look at you. "Hey, dumbass. I'm your wife, remember? You're supposed to talk to me about this stuff."
Finally, Drew looks down at you. You're so much shorter than him. You're barely five foot four. You're eye level with his chest and you have to tilt your head up to look at Drew.
He says, "My father just told me that we're going on a two week tour of the country. He wants me t'know the country before I ascend the throne."
"What's the matter with that?" you ask, gently stroking Drew's arm to calm him down.
His eyes are on your hand on his arm as he says, "I wanted t'surprise ya with tickets home t'America for the two weeks that we'll be on tour."
Your eyes widen and you say, "We can go when we get back."
Drew says, "When we got t'America, yer friend was gonna meet us in Florida. I got ya cleared t'wrestle in one match in WWE against your friend. It was more than just going t'see some wrestling shows in America. When we got t' ya're hometown, I was gonna take ya t'yer favorite spot that ya told me about before and I was gonna ask if ya wanted t'try and be a real couple."
Your heart sinks into stomach when you see how upset Drew is about this. You say, "You had all that planned out for me? For us?"
He nods and says, "I wanted ya to feel less alone and I wanted ya t'have at least one more match before ya actually have t'give up wrestling."
You console Drew by hugging him. You close your eyes and you say, "I already feel less alone, Drew."
"What about yer one more match?" he asks.
Looking up at Drew, you say, "I've already come to terms with the fact I'll probably never wrestle again. It would have been amazing to be in a WWE ring but I don't need one more match."
His hands rest on your cheeks before he says, "I'll get ya in a WWE ring at some point, Y/N. Ya gave up yer career t'be here. It's the least I can do."
The idea of talking to Drew's father pops into your mind and you say, "I need to do something really quick. Can you excuse me?"
Drew nods and you let go of each other before you walk off to the king's chambers.
At the door, you knock. A "come in" is said from the other side so you open the large doors.
King Andrew sits at his desk and he looks up at you. "Ah, Y/N," he says, getting up. "To what do I owe the pleasure?"
"Postpone the tour of Scotland," you bluntly say. "Please, sir."
His face hardens a bit as he says, "Drew must've told ya what was happening."
You nod and say, "He did, and he pulled a lot of strings to surprise me back home. Mr. King Sir, he gave me an opportunity to do the thing I love one more time before I give it up to join him by his side as queen of this beautiful country. He wants to take this trip to help us get closer so maybe we could be together behind closed doors as well. Let us take this trip and the day we get back, we can tour this country that I can proudly say I call my second home."
Andrew looks at you as you talk. He leans against his desk and crosses his arms across his chest, looking down at the floor when you're done talking.
You wait for a response.
It's almost an eternity before he says, "I can remember what it was like t'be in love with Drew's mother when we were younger. All the trips we took were always business, never for pleasure. Then she got sick and she died, and I regret that we never got to go on a trip just for pleasure. So, I will postpone the tour so ya and Drew can visit the States, but the day ya get back is the day the tour of Scotland begins."
You smile and say, "Yes, Mr. King Sir. May I go tell Drew the news?"
He nods and dismisses you.
As soon as you're out of the room, you take off back toward your chambers. Drew sits on the small love seat in your room and looks at you when you walk in.
"When do we leave to go to America?"

Chapter Summary: Bruno and Natalia have some important discussions about their plans for the future.
______________________________
A little over a month had passed since Bruno and Natalia's engagement. They had excitedly rang in the new year together as an engaged couple and the month of January had flown by as they started to work on wedding plans and getting Natalia all moved in to the casita.
The two of them were together at the bakery on a rainy night, getting some of Natalia's belongings packed.
"Does it feel strange, seeing your things getting packed up like this?" Bruno asked, taking a decoration off of her wall.
"Yes and no." Natalia replied. "I lived with my dad in a different house for most of my life before I lived here. About a year before he passed away my tía retired and gave full ownership of the bakery over to me, so I moved here then. Tía lived in this apartment all the years she ran this place, and only moved into where she is now after retiring. So this place holds a lot of special memories, but it's not like I'm fully losing it you know?"
Bruno nodded.
"The least convenient change out of the deal is that I have to get up a whole ten minutes earlier in the mornings to walk to work from the casita, but now I'll get to wake up to you next to me and have a super awesome family right down the hall every day so it's a fair trade." Natalia said, grinning. "I figured I could always just crash here on a night when I'm super behind on work if need be, and we can always use it as our private romantic getaway." She said sweetly, running her hand along Bruno's back as she passed him.
"Who knows, maybe one of our kids will want to take it over one day." She added softly.
Bruno felt like electricity passed through his system at her mentioning children in their future. It was something he'd certainly thought about, but they hadn't discussed it in any detail.
Natalia blinked a few times, processing Bruno's visible strong reaction to her words.
"I guess we've never really talked about kids much, have we? We probably should since we're you know, getting hitched and all." She said with a smile.
"I just never really found the right moment to ask." Bruno said nervously. "Is–is that something you want? Kids, I mean?"
Natalia put down the basket she was holding and hugged Bruno around his waist, looking up lovingly into his eyes.
"Absolutely. Always have. And there is no one in the world I think would make a more incredible father than you, my love. Félix and Agustín being close seconds of course, but I'm biased."
Bruno felt joy radiate throughout his entire body.
"I feel the same way mi amor, I know you'll be an absolutely amazing mother." He said and then paused, an anxiousness in his chest. "That uh–that's not your way of trying to tell me something is it?" He asked, half teasing.
"Ha, no no." Natalia said, putting her hand over her abdomen. "I am very much not pregnant at the moment, my period started this morning with a vengeance. I ate like 4 chocolate chip muffins before you even came over today. I promise when I actually am pregnant you won't find out in a casual conversation in my bedroom."
Bruno laughed.
"Sorry, was that too much information?" Natalia asked, chuckling a bit apologetically.
"No, of course not." Bruno replied. "I'm just sorry that that's something you have to deal with. You can always talk to me about anything you're going through, physically, emotionally, anything. And frankly, if I want to put my body inside of your body I think I automatically lose my 'being weird about women’s normal bodily functions' card."
Natalia laughed. "That is much appreciated."
"Can I get you anything, are you feeling okay?" Bruno asked.
"You're sweet, thank you. I'm okay, I may ask Julieta later if I can get something from her to help with the cramping but I'll survive until then."
Bruno cleared his throat. "I um, I can't imagine it hasn't run through your mind about our kids having–"
"Gifts?"
"Yeah." He nodded.
"Of course, and that is something that's obviously incredible and exciting but it's not like our whole relationship was some kind of big long con just so I could get some cute magical kids out of the deal." Natalia teased, making Bruno chuckle. "Magic or no magic, whatever gifts they will or won't end up with, I will love our kids exactly the same and we will just continue on the Madrigal family's course of completely unusual and unique approaches to parenting."
Bruno laughed. "That's putting it lightly."
"No matter what happens, they'll be ours and that's the most beautiful thing I can possibly imagine." Natalia said with a soft smile, squeezing him tightly.
"I couldn't agree more." Bruno said softly, kissing the top of her head.
"I do know for a fact that I want more than one.” Natalia said. “I always wanted siblings growing up, but that just wasn't in the cards for my family. Seeing the relationship you have with your sisters and the relationships your nieces and nephews have, I want that for our kids. They'll obviously have so many wonderful aunts and uncles and cousins, but I want to give them all of those possible types of relationships. Don't get me wrong, my dad and my tía were always wonderful, but a lot of my life before you and your family became a part of it was pretty lonely. I don't want that for them."
Bruno hugged Natalia close to his chest.
"That will never happen." He said. "They will have so much family and love and chaos around them at all times that they will honestly have no clue what loneliness even is."
Natalia laughed.
"Jokes aside though, I certainly know what it feels like to be lonely." Bruno said softly. "Not in the exact same way as you of course, but I can empathize. I promise you from the bottom of my heart that you will never have to feel that loneliness again."
Natalia smiled warmly at him, putting her hand on his cheek.
"Thank you, mi corazón." She said warmly. "I don't feel that way anymore, having you and your family take me in as completely and lovingly as you all have, it has just filled up my heart like you can't even believe."
"I can certainly believe it." Bruno replied. "I felt the same way after my family took me back in like they did after my decade away. The love they showed me, everything about finding you and how life has just become so good in the time since I've been back, I know how incredible it feels to fill that empty space in your heart again."
"I love you." Natalia said, kissing him softly.
"I love you more."
____________________
Bruno and Natalia packed a few small boxes with clothes, shoes, and some various decorations off of her walls.
"Were you wanting to take over any of your bigger furniture?" Bruno asked. "My room is decorated about as minimally as a person could decorate a room so there's plenty of space for whatever you want to bring."
Natalia looked around the room.
"I do think I'd like to bring my desk. It'd be way easier to just tape the cabinets shut and ask Luisa to bring it over in one piece than taking everything out, packing it, and then refilling it."
"Absolutely!" Bruno agreed,
"I'll leave my chair here, I like to come up here and sit at the window during my lunch breaks on work days." Natalia added. "Did you say you had extra empty drawers in your dresser?"
Bruno nodded. "I only use like three of them, the rest are yours."
"Perfect, thank you. Dresser can stay here too then. I don't honestly own too much stuff, everything you're looking at now is pretty much what I've got. The casita is by far the biggest space I'll have ever lived in."
"Most homes aren't magical and designed to accommodate like twenty people and physically grow every time a new kid is born, it certainly takes some getting used to from anyone outside of the family." Bruno teased.
"Ha, fair! Like I've said, the transition from a teeny tiny family to a big giant family is a beautiful but definitely new experience for me. Wouldn't change it for the world though."
Bruno smiled. "Speaking of experiences, I've been meaning to ask you–have you given any thought to a wedding date you like?"
Natalia looked over at him as she sat down in the chair in the corner, a somewhat guilty look in her eyes.
"Can I be honest with you?" She asked.
"Of course."
"Would you be horrified if I said I was thinking about us having the wedding in say, a couple of months?"
Bruno shook his head. "Of course not, why would I be?"
"Because I know your family's weddings are traditionally a bit bigger and grander and I certainly don't want to take that experience away from you if that's something you want. But...what I would really love more than anything is just a small intimate gathering with our families to celebrate. And, to be honest–"
Natalia paused, looking down at her lap.
"I don't know how much time I have left with my tía, you know? I'm not saying she's dying right this minute or anything, she's doing really well for her age actually, but I know sometimes big weddings can take like a year or two to plan and I just can't guarantee that sort of time with her. I don't want there to be absolutely no one from my family at our wedding. I know it would mean everything to her, and to me, for her to be able to be there and to actually get that close personal time with everyone that day instead of everyone running around trying to coordinate this big crazy event."
Bruno knelt down in front of Natalia and cupped her cheek gently with his hand.
"Natalia, I love you. Our wedding isn't about having the biggest fanciest event, it's about us. It's about what we want, not what's expected of a typical wedding. I of course want Maria to be there too and that is such an understandable concern. Listen, Pepa and Félix's wedding was in a literal hurricane and it was still an incredible day because of how much they love each other. The wedding you described sounds perfect, an intimate celebration of us and our love with the people closest to us. There are so many Madrigals that it automatically becomes a medium sized wedding anyway just when you get through counting the grandkids."
Natalia laughed, her cheeks glowing as she smiled.
"I love you so much, I knew you'd understand." She said, her tone brighter. "I just want to make sure you're happy, it's your wedding too."
"Are you kidding?" Bruno said with a big grin. "I get to marry you! My dream girl, my best friend, the love of my life! I would be happy to marry you anywhere, anytime. This is a perfect middle ground to make us happy and make sure we can still share that day with all of the people we love most."
"Well then, that all being said–" Natalia began. "I did kind of have a date in mind to throw your way."
"Hit me." Bruno responded, folding his arms on top of her knees.
"Well, a little while ago I was going through my calendar from last year after putting up my new one for this year. I mark all of my singing gigs on the calendar, I pretty much keep my life schedule on that thing. I checked and it says that April 4th was the day that I was singing at the restaurant where we first officially met. That's only two months from now, so why not make it that day? It was the first day marking the best thing to ever happen to me–meeting you."
Bruno felt his heart melting at her words, thinking back fondly on the night they met and how he knew within seconds of seeing her for the first time that his life had changed forever. He looked at her with all the love in his heart clear on his face.
"It was the best thing to ever happen to me too, mi amor. That is absolutely perfect. Let's do it." He said, taking her hand gently and kissing the top of it.
"Really?" Natalia asked, her eyes wide.
"Really!"
"Eeeeeeeeeeeee we have a wedding date!!!!" Natalia cried, jumping into Bruno’s arms. He caught her and she wrapped her arms and legs tightly around him, both of them laughing excitedly. She kissed him several times quickly before he set her down.
As soon as Natalia was back on her feet she started pacing back and forth across the room.
"Okay, wow so many things to plan now that we have the when! There's the location, the dresses, the cake–do I make the cake for my own wedding? Is that like, against the rules? Agh, so much to think about!"
Bruno chuckled, watching her adoringly as she said all of her thoughts out loud.
"Just let me know what parts you want me to tackle and I'm on it." He said. "We'll get this all figured out together, and I know the family will want to help in any way they can."
Natalia sat down on her bed, suddenly going very quiet.
"How do we explain this small wedding thing to everyone? Do we just...tell them?" She asked.
"Yep, I think that's the best way to go." Bruno said. "As you know well, we're all trying to be more open with each other these days in the Madrigal family and not dance around things. This isn't bad news by any means, just an update. I think just explaining everything you explained to me will be more than enough, we can tell them together. I know everyone is so excited and thrilled for us that they'll be happy with whatever we decide on."
"I'm sure they will, for some reason I'm just so nervous about all of this?" Natalia said, anxiously wringing her hands together.
Bruno sat down beside her on the bed, taking one of her hands in his.
"You're nervous because you care, and how deeply you care about the people in your life is part of what I love so much about you." He said softly, tucking a piece of her hair behind her ear.
Natalia smiled, looking at him tenderly.
"Would you be ashamed of me if I went downstairs and ate my fifth muffin of the day?" She asked after a moment, making Bruno laugh.
"Muffin away, my queen." He said. "I'm hungry too, we probably should eat some real dinner here soon."
"We can be done packing for tonight, it's raining so let's just leave the boxes here and grab them tomorrow. Hang tight one second."
Natalia headed downstairs, picked up the bakery's phone and dialed the number to the casita.
"Residencia Madrigal, Julieta speaking."
"Hi Julieta, just who I was hoping to reach! It’s Nati."
"Hi Nati! You guys okay?"
"We're fine! I was going to ask if the family had eaten yet?"
"No actually, we were just starting to talk about dinner."
"I was thinking Bruno and I could pick up dinner for everyone on our way back from the bakery, give you a night off from cooking? I know you were out healing people in the town square all day yesterday, you've got to be exhausted. My treat."
"That sounds wonderful, but are you sure?"
"Absolutely, 1000%. I was thinking of grabbing the usual Madrigal order at Paolo's?"
"That sounds perfect. Thank you so much, we'll get the table set for when you get here!"
"Great, see you in a bit!"
Natalia put the receiver down and smiled at Bruno as he was heading down the stairs.
"Food is set! Your sister really needs more nights off."
"Agreed, and Paolo's sounds amazing." Bruno said.
Natalia locked up the bakery, they grabbed the takeout from the restaurant and then headed to the casita.

When Bruno and Natalia walked inside the house, they saw the whole family moving through the dining room, pouring drinks into glasses and setting the table up.
"Hi everyone! Food's here!" Natalia said with a smile when they walked in.
"Oh my god yes, I am so hungry." Camilo said, clutching his hands to his stomach dramatically. "Natalia, have I ever told you I loved you?"
"Once or twice." Natalia chuckled.
"Thanks for grabbing this guys!" Félix exclaimed.
"Thanks for waiting for us to eat!" Bruno replied.
The family got the takeout distributed and sat down to eat together and catch up on everyone's days.
"So," Bruno began during a pause in everyone's conversations, looking over at Natalia who gave him a small nod. "We have some exciting wedding related news."
"Ooh, tell us!" Pepa asked excitedly.
"We...have a date!" Natalia exclaimed.
"What!!! When!" Mirabel cried out.
"April 4th."
"April, like two months from now April?" Isabela asked, confused.
"Yes, but hear me out." Natalia said quickly. "Bruno and I, we talked for a long time tonight about what kind of wedding we want ours to be." She looked over at Bruno nervously to help her get the next part out.
"Natalia and I realized that what we really want is for this wedding to be a smaller, more intimate event." He said softly. "Just us and our families."
"The closer date is in part because I—I really want to make sure my tía can be there." Natalia added, her voice a bit shaky. "Having her and all of you there that day, that means everything to me."
"We know that's sort of breaking the typical Madrigal wedding tradition, but–" Bruno began.
"You guys, I think that's a beautiful idea." Julieta said softly, a kind and understanding expression on her face. The entire family was smiling back at them.
"I agree." Alma said. "Your wedding day will be perfect, because it's about the love you two share and the love we all have for the two of you. I know how much it will mean to Maria to see you get married, mija."
Natalia was deeply relieved at her words.
"We have had enough chaos in the last year and a half in this family for a hundred lifetimes." Luisa said, leaning back in her chair. "I can understand completely why you'd want to keep your wedding laid back."
"Absolutely, hermana." Félix said to Natalia. "We know all about how crazy a wedding can be, huh mi amor?" He added, smiling over at his wife.
Pepa laughed, playfully nudging Félix in the shoulder before she spoke. "The day will work itself out to be joyful and wonderful no matter what."
"Not having to try and wrangle the entire town for a party would be a nice break, honestly." Camilo chimed in, making Natalia and Bruno laugh.
"We're here for you no matter what, just tell us what you need and we're there." Mirabel said, smiling brightly at them both.
"Thank you all so much, I appreciate all of your words more than you know." Natalia replied. "I um–assume you knew all of this already, Dolores?"
Dolores smiled and nodded. "I am always for things being quieter, you know that."
"We're very excited." Bruno said with a big grin.
"So yay, April 4th it is!! Lots to do!" Isabela exclaimed, clapping her hands together.
"A toast," Agustín said, holding up his water glass. "To Bruno and Natalia, and their chosen wedding date!"
"Cheers!" Everyone said in unison, clinking their glasses together.
The family enjoyed the rest of their dinner together and Bruno and Natalia felt a big weight lift off of their chests. They were now more excited than ever to truly get into planning this beautiful, special day that was coming up in just a few short months.

Experiments
Summary: A flashback to when Wonka first opened up his factory, and his relationship with his partner and close friend, Maude, were all the rage. A new guy pulls into town and has his sights set on Maude. Drama ensues.
A/N: Oof, I apologize if the ending feels a little rushed. I should say this fic does have a bittersweet feel to it, but that's how I like it lol. I am working on rewriting one of my other fics because honestly I think I've gotten better at writing Wonka, lol
Tumblr media
Willy Wonka made headlines around the world when he opened the largest chocolate factory ever in history. He stood proudly in front of the looming building as the press went wild.
People stood all around the factory, celebrating such a momentous occasion. Especially, Maude Figgle, who stood right in front of the crowd, chewing on a piece of gum.
While chocolate was Willy's main passion, Maude helped out in crafting different kinds of gum. She even invented a kind of gum that would never loss its flavor. The press never seemed to care much about her, even though she was the brains behind most of his famous candies.
"Hello, and thank you for coming." Willy began to speak on a podium. He began adjusting the microphone. He took out several notecards, flipping through each of them.
Finally, he spoke again. "It is with great honor that I, Willy Wonka, have finally opened the largest chocolate factory in the world. Candy has always been my passion since I was a little boy, and I couldn't have done it alone. Maude Figgle, my very good friend and partner, has done so many things to help me on this incredible journey that I could never imagined of doing it on my own. Now, without a further ado, Wonka's factory is now opened!"
The crowd cheered as Willy stood up and cut the rope of his shiny new factory.
Maude ran up the steps, waving to the crowd. She hugged Willy, tightly.
Will was a bit surprised at the hug. He chuckled nervously, hugging Maude back.
It was the happiest day of their lives.
Will sat in his office, admiring all the workers below. After just a few months, people already seemed to enjoy working at the factory. Will would go down from his office sometimes, and test the different samples that people had made.
Maude was usually in the experiment room, where she made most of her breakthroughs. She was currently testing out a type of rock candy that projected different kinds of emotions.
"Maude, if you keep chewing that gum, your jaw will close shut, haha." Will said, jokingly.
"Yeah, says who, Smartypants?" Maude chuckled, and continued chewing.
Gum seemed to be the only thing that keep her focus. Ever since she was a little girl, she had a habit of chewing gum. She would chew faster if she was nervous or extremely focused. When she didn't have gum to chew, Maude would chew on her hair, pencils, or anything to keep her mind to focus.
Willy's stance on gum was obvious. He hated the stuff, but when it came to Maude, he seemed to tolerate it a lot more.
"Whatcha working on?" Will asked, leaning over Maude's shoulder.
"None of your business." Maude scoffed.
Will pouted, crossing his arms. "Haha, jokes on you. This factory is my business."
"Oh, of course, Mr. International Hotshot." Maude pushed Will gently to the side, and grabbed a few chemicals from behind him.
"You better believe it, missy." Willy looked to the experimentation table. There seemed to be a rock that was glowing pink.
"What does that mean?" Will asked, looking to Maude.
"It's emotional rock candy. You just touch it, and it'll glow whatever color you're feeling." Maude said, excited at her new invention. "It's like a mood ring."
"Uh-huh, and what does pink mean?" Will asked, again, placing his gloved hand on the rock.
Maude blushed, slightly. "Um, it's usually referred to the feeling of love or well happiness. It's kinda not really completed yet."
The rock candy began to shake as well as turn several different colors.
Maude gulped, grabbing Will to the ground. The rock exploded and bits of rock candy seemed to blow everywhere.
Luckily, there wasn't any other workers nearby, but Maude and Willy.
Willy grabbed his cane, and started laughing. "That was magnificent! We should do that again, but next time we should add different labels on the colors."
Maude chuckled as well. "Hehe, of course."
"Yes, we should definitely do that when I get back from India."
Maude's smiled quickly faded. "Leaving? To India?"
"Prince Pondicherry asked me to build him a palace entirely made out of chocolate." Willy chuckled. "It's really a strange request, is it not?"
"Yes, but, who will be in charge when you're gone?"
"You will, of course."
Maude's eyes widened as Willy headed out the door. "But, wait, why me?"
"Why not you? You're the only gosh darn person I'd trust to run this entire factory."
Maude smiled, slightly. She seemed a little troubled. "I'll do my best, Will."
He smiled back at her, pulling her into a hug.
Maude hesitantly hugged back. She looked up at the chocolateir's face. He looked young and bright. His lips were almost kissable. His hair was all short and crooked.
Maude pulled out of the hug and looked away. The very words "I love you" hung to her tongue, as Willy walked out of the factory.
"Good luck, Will."
A few weeks later, the press were hounding the factory, curious to where the chocolateir went off to.
Maude tried to maintain her composure without him, but it was no use to the press. They liked to dismiss her like she was some secretary. It annoyed her at times.
Even some of the workers in the factory didn't seem to care that she was in charge. They would say revolting things behind her back. Soon she didn't show up to the break room anymore. She started chewing her gum a lot faster.
"Um, excuse me, miss." A man said, knocking on the door of Wonka's office.
"Oh, I'm sorry, Mr. Wonka isn't here right now. Is there anything I can help you with?" Maude asked, opening the door for the man.
"No, actually. I was just looking for you." The man stammered.
The man seemed to have red hair, with captivating green eyes.
"Well, is there anything that you need help with, sir?" Maude repeated.
"Um, I apologize if this comes off as a bit dodgy, but I wanted to ask if you'd get drinks with me later?"
Maude crossed her arms at the offer. "I'm sorry, but I'm gonna have to decline, because I've got lots of work to catch up on."
The man still insisted. "The drinks would be on me."
"Uh-huh. Another thing is I don't even know your name." Maude said, rolling her eyes.
"It's Ron, Ron Duncan." The man stuck out his hand.
She looked at his hand, and raised an eyebrow. "Maude Figgle. Now, I'm really swamped with work, if you'll excuse me."
"Look, I get that you're busy, but, I really admire your since I was a kid. In my opinion, you'd be better off without Wonka." The man turned to leave.
Maude stopped whatever she was doing and looked at him. "That's very kind of you. You know what, sure, I'll go."
"Great, then it's a date." Ron smiled at her and walked off.
From that first meeting, Maude didn't expect to be in a relationship with him. Ron seemed so nice and caring, but there was something off about him. She didn't exactly know what, but she did have a feeling that his intentions were cloudy.
When Willy got back from India, he was greeted by a tight hug from Maude.
"Ah, it's good to be back after such a long time. India is scolding hot, you know." Willy said, as he hugged Maude back.
"There's someone I want you to meet." She smiled at Will, bringing him over to Ron.
Willy's smile faltered, when she gave Ron a kiss on the cheek. "Heh, hi."
"This is Ron. He's my boyfriend." Maude said, holding onto Ron's hand.
Ron stuck out his hand for Will to shake it. Will hesitantly shook it with a disgusted look on his face.
"I find it extraordinary that after all this time you guys held up your friendship." Ron smiled. It seemed to have a sour connotation to it.
Will smiled back, just as sourly. "Uh-huh, yeah. We've had the same dream since we were kids."
Ron's smile disappeared, slightly. He gave Maude another kiss before heading off. It made Will grimace slightly, as Ron walked off.
Will didn't know how to describe it, but he didn't like Ron. In fact, he grew to despise him, but he just didn't know why.
Whenever he would see Maude all lovey dovey with Ron, it just made Will sick to his stomach. Soon, candy sales began to drop. His chocolate just wasn't tasting as good as it used to.
It started getting worse when spies began stealing his life's work. The only thing that kept him afloat was Maude.
One day, Maude announced that she was getting engaged. However, she didn't seem too thrilled about it.
Willy picked up on it right away. She didn't seem to want anything to do with him anymore.
Maude began to distance herself from Will more and more. He felt more hollow without her.
During the wedding, Will showed up to walk Maude down the aisle.
"H-hey, Maude." He began.
"Yes?" She answered.
Will couldn't get over how she looked in her wedding dress. Her hair was done up all nice, and her lips looked almost kissable. He placed his gloved hand on her cheek, as the words "I love you" hung on the tip of his tongue.
"Good luck." He said, as he walked her down the aisle.

Cheater -- Part 2
Pairing: Mob!Tom x Reader
Warning: Sexual harassment, violence
A/N: I wanted to get this out sooner but I've been so busy recently. So sorry for the wait
______
It had been three months since you caught Tom. Three months since you walked out on him forever.
You hadn't seen him since that day. You had been relying on Tom's money for so long, you had to stay over a friend's house until you made enough money to rent an apartment.
It had been hard, but you refused to go back to him. Leaving him had its perks. You didn't have to live in fear for his or your own life anymore, you got to focus on your education, and you got to fix old friendships you lost. Overall, you felt like a normal person for once.
But at the same time, you were in so much pain. The two of you were engaged. You were supposed to get married. You loved him, you didn't believe you could ever love someone that much again. He made you feel beautiful and loved. He was a drug that you had been addicted to, and at some points you believed the withdrawal symptoms would kill you. But you were strong, and you wouldn't run back to him.
Tom on the other hand had been doing much worse than you had. Nothing in Tom's life brought him joy. You were always the one to make him genuinely happy. So with you gone from his life without a single word, he had lost himself in his work. He gained more and more enemies every day because of it. The more money and power he gained was never enough, he was insatiable, craving something that would make the pain a little more bearable. And he found that one thing that made the pain lessen, was to make sure you were safe. He had you followed, had tabs kept on you every week. He knew everything. He even knew that you had gotten a little better from the break up every week while he continued to worsen.
Tom sighed, throwing the papers down on his desk and leaning back into his seat. Frenetic knocking sounded from his office door.
"Come in," Tom shouted, annoyed.
The doors swung open revealing one of his men. "Sir, (Y/N) was kidnapped." The man panted.
Tom's eyes widened and he stood up abruptly. "Go and get Harrison."
~~~~
(Three hours earlier)
You laughed at your friend who decided to visit you at the bar you worked at.
"You actually made him cry?" You laughed.
Your friend nodded her head, "Yeah, it was so funny. Like why be in a debate class and not be able to carry your own argument. He got so frustated he literally stood there and started crying."
"I'm impressed Liza-" You noticed someone sitting down at the bar. "I'll be right back." You said nodding towards the man's direction. She nodded back taking a sip of her drink.
You approached the man nonchantly. "Anything I can get for you?"
The man seemed a little strange, and it was hard to see his face since it was covered by his hood. He lifted his head glancing at your nametag. "Nothing right now, (Y/N)." He said as an unsettling grin formed on his lips.
"Um, alright. Just call if you want something." You hurried away. You felt your heart beat quicken.
You weren't stupid, you had met plenty of terrifying men while you were with Tom. The only question was if this man was part of a mob or just some creep.
"You okay?" Your friend asked as you approached her. "You look pale."
"I'm- I'm fine. Uh, so what were you saying before?"
~~
The rest of the night seemed to go by smoothly enough, about an hour after you spoke to the unsetting man he had left, making you feel much better.
It had gotten pretty late and unfortunately you were the one that was left to close that night. You finished wiping down the bar and all of the tables.
"So, Tom Holland, huh?"
You snapped your head towards the bar, your eyebrows furrowing. It was the same man from before. "How-?"
"That lock." He nodded towards the door. "Child's play. Now, I'm very interested in you (Y/N). Would never peg a girl like you to go around fucking men in the mafia. I see why he would fuck you, though." He said raking his eyes up and down your body.
You scoffed, and crossed your arms. "It was one man. And we're not together anymore so I can't help you with whatever it is you want."
"Oh, but sweetheart. I think you can." He said standing up.
A flash caught your eye and you found a gun hanging loosley from his hand. Of course there was a gun. There was always a gun.
He came closer and slowly began circling around you. You stood completely still. "You two were supposed to get married weren't you?" You nodded. "And it turns out Tommyboy is still in love with you."
You felt your heart jump. Of course you were terrified for your life, but Tom still had this power over your heart.
"Oh what's this? You're blushing. Do you still love him too?"
You swallowed nervously. "No, I hate him."
"Hm, I don't believe you-."
"What do you want? You're not really here to talk about my love life, so what do you want?"
"Ooh, okay, I think I'm starting to understand why Holland likes you so much. You're firey. But you're right, what I'm actually here is for leverage."
"Wha-?" But before you could finish, you felt the butt of the gun slam into your head and you were out.
~~
"She's pretty isn't she?"
"Keep it in your pants, that's not what she's here for."
"Yeah but still. Do y'think the boss will let us have a little fun with her before we have to kill her."
"Shut the fuck up and do your job, alright."
"Well he isn't wrong." A third voice interjected. "Holland was a lucky bastard."
You slightly groaned, as you blinked your eyes open, your head pounding. You lifted your head finding the three men that had been speaking, circling around you.
"Good morning, princess. How's your head?" You recognized this voice from the first man that had spoken. He was tall with black hair.
"Don't call me princess."
The two other men laughed. "I'm gonna get the boss. James come with me." The more serious one said before leaving the room with James leaving you alone with the black haired man.
"So you were really gonna marry Holland?" He asked, but you looked away from him and ignored what he said. "Tell me why a girl who seems so obviously innocent would go for a freak like Holland. Hm? Is it cause you like it rough, cause sweetheart if you like it rough, I can have you cumming in seconds."
"You're disgusting. I'd never let you touch me." You spat.
The man slowly started to approach you. Once he reached you, he gripped your chin pulled your face close to his. "Such a filthy mouth." He grinned in amusement. "Did Holland let you speak to him like that or do you like to be put in your place." He leaned in closer so his lips were by your ear. "I bet you're a dirty little slut betwee-"
"I wouldn't finish that sentence if I were you." An all too familiar voice said.
Both your head and the man's snapped towards the door seeing Tom and Harrison standing there covered in blood with raised guns pointed at the man.
The man stood up, "Holl-" but before he could finish both Tom and Harrison shot him dead.
"T-Tom?" You choked out.
"Shh, darling, I've got you." He said, walking over and untying you from the chair you were in. Once the tape was off, you pulled Tom into you, and hugged him tightly, despite the blood that was on him.
You hated him so much but you also loved him and seeing him after being kidnapped all logic left you. You cried into him as he held you tightly to him. You hated to admit how much you really missed him.
"Let's get you out of here, darling."
~~
You sat across from Tom in the back of his car. Harrison was driving.
Neither of you said a word, as you gazed out the window and as Tom took glances at you.
"...Thanks for saving me." You mumbled.
"Of course, da-"
"But just so you know. I still really fucking hate you."
Tom sighed. "I figured as much."
"How did you know where I was?"
"I...I've had some of my men watch you since you left."
You snapped your head towards him. "You what?"
"I had to keep tabs on you. I'm still in love with you y'know. And my business is messy, I wanted to make sure you were safe." You stayed silent understanding his reasoning. "...Just so you know, I really miss you princess. If it means anything, I haven't had sex with another woman since you've left."
You scoffed. "Nice to know you only have sex with other women when you're with me."
He sighed again and ran a hand through his hair. "Come on darling, please. I need you so much, please just come back."
"...You really fucked up Tom."
"I know, but it'll never happen again, it should've never happened in the first place. I was a fucking idiot. I love you so much, I don't know how to function without you and you're all I think about and it kills me that I don't get to see your beautiful face anymore. Please, give me one more chance."
You gave Tom a pained look. You were so confused. You sat in silence for a few minutes, thinking.
"Fine, this is how it's going to go." Tom perked up. "Basically, you destroyed the last five years we've been together. So if you want to get back together we're starting on square one again. Which means I'm not moving back in, we're not going to have sex for a long time, and we're obviously not going to get married anymore, until you can build my trust back."
Tom nodded, "Yes, please, I'll do anything you want."
"And Tom, I swear if you do anything to break my heart like that again, you will never see me again."
"I will never break your heart again. I can't live without you."
"Then... I guess we're back together."
He smiled widely. "I guess we are."
