Is the flash-forward in Ao no Exorcist (chapters 139 & 140) relevant?

Is essentially the direction this post will take and the question it seeks to answer. This WILL contains spoilers for the manga, from chapter 110 to the current last update, chapter 148. You've been warned.

So! One thing I've noticed lately in the direction Aoex is taking is that it seems to be gearing up for a final arc.

Big confrontation against the Big Bad with all the allies gathered in a desperate last stand? The world at stake? Allies actually suffer losses and are subject to mortality?

Check, check, and check.

By all metrics, this looks like a final batttle, final arc material. Except! There are a bunch of things that make me say the manga is far from over. Mostly it's a dual thing. The big one is the flash-forward chapter. The other reason is how the content of those two chapters is linked intrinsically to everything else.

And now another warning. All of this is speculation and theorizing. Take it with a grain of salt, don't get too hyped up. I could be wrong and reading too much into it. So keep that in mind.

That said, in the aforementioned chapters, halfway through chapter 139 and two-thirds of chapter 140, we see the future in a vision. More precisely, Mephisto is given a vision.

The funny thing with Mephisto is that he already broke the fourth wall once, in that one chapter I can't remember for the life of me. This, for me, gives credit to the flash-forward right away. Beyond the fact that its existence is a deliberate choice made by Katou of course.

Besides, since we're on the topics of choice, there are many elements present in those two chapters that tell me all of this was thought of in advance. Because those elements are referenced directly or in a roundabout way in the previous or following chapters. Here's my list:

The fun thing Kato Kazue has always done was color code Rin's power for our convenience, especially lately. In the recent fight with Yukio, he makes mention of Rin's appearance and how the way his brother looked then, bright hair and visible demon's core, meant that he was unstable. And later, Rin said that he tamed his demon's side.

Chapter 132 pages 20-21

BOOM. TRANSFORMATION

And as it happens, in the flash-forward there are also transformations and what's special about those is that he doesn't need to sheath and unsheath Kurikara to make them happen.

Chapter 140, pages 9, 16 and 18

But that is before and during the flash-forward. What about closer to the story 'present'?

Here is Yukio reaching out to Rin so his big brother can talk about his problems if he wants to. Because he learned his lesson about bottling up and trying to face everything on his lonesome. Isn't awesome and cooing worthy?

Anyways, Rin gives us access to his inner thoughts and tell us how he offered to make peace with Satan and was harshly rejected. But the whys of this are especially important.

Here he is, on the eve of their final battle, asking himself if this is the right way. Not outright rejecting Satan's words. Still on his journey of acceptance of his heritage.

The stages we've seen so far are; denial, acknowledgement, looking at the whys and hows of his nature by witnessing the past, trying to repress and then tame his demonic self by exerting control. The missing parts for me are understanding and acceptance. There is a space left for it in the 'present' and in the flash-forward, our vision of the future, he seems to have gone through those stages and be able to use his powers at will, finally at peace with himself.

The exact same form of damage that one of the Ba'al's host bodies incurs through rapid cell regeneration/degeneration. Also, because I don't think Arthur's status as the only Lucifer's clone & prospective host to survive was put in here just to give him an existential crisis he refuses to engage with.

As funny as those panels are, and they are funny, I don't think it was done solely for the bit. If they were, why bother bringing back the guy who can theoretically be accredited with kicking off the whole plot by forcing Rin's first transformation?

Manga likes being self-referential and it's arguably a better idea than crafting a new guy out of whole cloth, but then why bother giving us these little glimpses into the individuals' attitudes, goals, wishes, and dreams of the Ba'al in the eleventh hour?

Katou Kazue has taught us to expect better.

And now that I've mentioned expectations...

Shiemi's uncle:

Chapter 114 pages 8-9 and chapter 131 pages 11-12

So, what's up with this guy? He scares Shiemi on an instinctual level when she's not easily frightened, and with the bloody hand and the way we see him smile in Shiemi's forgotten repressed memories, my personal bet is that he killed someone, she witnessed it and he told her to forget or made her forget. Also, has ambitions to shape her to his will, given the nature and tone of their short conversation.

Something else that's also important with Shiemi's uncle, he's the one who purposefully lied to Arthur about his origins and exudes absolutely creepy (controlling) vibes in general.

Chapter 111 pages 14-17

The Uzai family, attendants of Shemihaza, raised him once he got out of Section 13 Asylum due to Shemihaza's interest in him. That is what he's told at least. But... he's already been lied to about his past.

At the time it is very possible that Hilkiah was following the current Shemihaza's lead and keeping mum on exactly what Section 13 was or how it connected to the True Cross Order.

What matters in this section is the story's present. When presented with an opportunity to tell the truth, Jeremiah reinforced the lie.

Arthur considers him family, calls him brother. They're close enough that he expresses his deepest and most ruinous doubts to Jeremiah, the question that would make him reconsider his entire existence.

The question is, why would Jeremiah lie to Arthur?

I think the reason is that Jeremiah was assigned to stay at Lucifer's side by his uncle (despite Shemihaza's protests) to keep an eye on Lucifer and saw all of this:

Chapter 119 pages 15-16

[Not included (I'm fighting with the image limit) but relevant. Before Lucifer zapped them all to cinders there was a first flash of light that mesmerized Arthur. He walked to it, saying, "It shines like something special... I want to be like that too." When the possibility he could die heading toward the light (ironic, I've just realized) is raised, teenage Arthur responds, "It's okay. If I die I can be part of it."]

So what Jeremiah saw is this; a child unharmed among corpses reduced to cinders, despite withstanding the full intensity of a lethal attack from Lucifer itself. The success of Section 13's research, a bargaining chip in the future for when Lucifer comes back.

And the reason I think he lied was to keep that bargaining chip nice and snug for eventual possession by Lucifer. Because demons feast on Exorcists' doubts and struggles. And what's more offputting and likely to put someone off kilter than touching upon their very identity?

Uncharitable? Maybe.

But Arthur is drawn into a fight by the guy who created Satan's host body, baited into getting close enough to be injected with something, and the next (and only) time we see him after that is during the flash-forward where he shows signs of advanced degradation.

This takes us to the final point I wanted to make.

The Looks:

Chapter 139 page 28

They're the law enforcement of the dystopian future which tracks its citizens' location and schedule; that Paku is a victim of and which Rin works against, so what? What's the only other place we see the extras wear berets alongside their uniform?

Chapter 110 pages 5-6

And which other faction wears white among the True Cross Order than the Grigori and more precisely, Shehimiza's faction? No one. Manga is a visual way of doing storytelling and this is why I think the visual coding is important.

Plus, Katou Kazue did go through the pain of giving the True Cross Order's uniforms. Uniforms that very visibly change design in that future we're allowed to glimpse, so to me, it's not a coincidence.

Also, I think, (this part is purely speculation) that in the flash-forward Jeremiah and his faction seized power, and allied with Lucifer, took control of the True Cross Order. Hence why the organization is so repressive and controlling, to the point that Rin (who didn't kill homicidal zombies because he's on the side of humans) actually kills one of their... chief operatives? Someone who represents a legion, presumably, someone important enough to be hunted down.

Previous paragraph aside, none of this was put in there on a whim or at random. In fact, the flash-forward is surprisingly cohesive, plot and characterization-wise (I'll definitely have to do an in-depth analysis of it to do it justice) and I'm of the firm belief that it is a teaser of what's to come.

Personally, and this one is a gut feeling only. I think that the current arc is either: the penultimate arc or the midway point of the manga.

So basically there's this monogram neography creation method I got.

It consists solely of breaking down a complex symbol into smaller ones.

The number of final glyphs can be predicted by replacing the "x" in 2^x with the number of separate lines in the monogram.

This monogram above has a total of 12 parts. This means it can yield 4096 combinations.

That's a huge number, considering that English got 26 letters in its alphabet (excluding the apostrophe and diacritical variations of letters). It can fit the English alphabet 157 times, and there will still be some space left.

But there are some problems somewhat - the monogram here has some repeating lines, primarily the parallel ones. But that's fixable,

But still the question of filling it out remains open. Say I add the entire English alphabet. That's 26. Then all possible bi-letter combinations in it. That's 676, which combined with just the letters gives 702. Tri-letter combinations would be impossible, since they yield a number greater than the total sum of symbols possible (17576).

But that does leave us with 3394 symbols out of the total 4096. The only way I see this going is by adding new letters to English, but here's the thing - where to stop?

Theoretically I could fit all the possible letters in the extended Latin script probably, at least the ones in the most widespread alphabets.

But what if I go phonetic?

There's a total of 128 phonetic symbols available on Vulgarlang.com, combing all into pairs would yield a number above that of the total possible symbols (16384). But we can do one thing. Take all the consonants and multiply them by the vowels, and then again by two (impossible since 95x26 is 2660, and x2 yields 5320 which is greater than the total amount of glyphs possible). Which is a mathematical way of saying "create all possible combinations of vowels and consonants in CV pairs". So say we combine every consonant with every vowel - that's 2660. Plus 5 tonal indicators, that's 2665. Plus all the newly available superscript modifiers and all the phonetic articulation superscripts (160), that's 2825.

So to recount what we have: - All possible consonant-vowel combinations. - All phonetic symbols. - All phonetic secondary articulation symbols. And we still have 1271 symbols left.

What else can we do?

Let's add a functional symbol that flips the previous letter backwards. Say, turns /ʃʌ/ into /ʌʃ/. That leaves us with 1270 symbols - a round number, which is good.

For the fun of it how about we make 360 of them numerals? A base-360, which is one of quite notable anti-primes. It will be amazing for counting, and will include countless other numeral systems inside it wouldn't it? To write in decimal just use the numerals from 0 to 9. Also this base is like the Sumerian sexadecimal but multiplied by itself. A complete beast. Thus, 1270 - 360 = 910.

910 symbols left huh, well fuck me. Well let's consider this: let's add in all the vowels with tones applied. That'd be 28x5, thus, 140. 910 - 140 = 770.

hi anon! I'm glad you're asking this and I'll try to be careful and kind in my answer. If my tone comes off kind of angry I apologize, I just meant to avoid this kind of reaction with my post.

I'm gonna try to answer this in two big parts where it seems we disagree : first the "how hard is it not to attack schools" side of the problem.

Then I'll go more widely on the questioned necessity of destruction and its nature.

(also I apologize if not everything is clear, the French to English brain on this topic is kinda weird, I'm open to more asks if you want something more precise).

Alright, PART UNO, Why Burn Down Schools

Okay, so absolutely no offense, but I'm gonna guess you were a good or at least okay student and therefore had a good relationship to school. I'm also gonna assume you didn't go to school in the banlieue or in establishments on the REP/ZEP list (Network or Zone of Priority Education), this classification is done based on the IPS or Social Position Indicator. Etablishments in REP in Paris today are around 90; the one I went to as a kid around 74; in Nanterre, where Nahel was killed, high schools are around 90 and middle schools between 80 and 90. By comparison Henri IV and Louis Le Grand, two very prestigious high school in downtown Paris have an IPS of around 140. The point being that in those spaces, even if you personally do well as a student, most of your peers have a very different relationship to the institution that is "school".

It has been widely accepted since Bourdieu's Les Héritiers (1964) that school is a machine that reproduces and legitimizes inequalities. We know children of workers, little employees, and people working low wage jobs do worse in school than children of teachers, or state workers, or people working high paying jobs, or that have already done high level studies. We also know these kids get to school at the same time but with a different baggage, and that the baggage from relatively rich (in economic or cultural capital) kids coming from relatively rich families is favored over the baggage from kids from poor families. That is because the first one belongs to what Bourdieu calls "legitimate culture", which is not legitimate in and of itself but legitimized by the dominant class to keep itself where it is. I'm not gonna talk about Les Héritiers the whole time, but in addition to the class difference and struggle in legitimate culture is a struggle especially present in banlieues of foreign culture being considered illegitimate.

The point is not that poor kids or kids of color are bad at school and that's just how it is, but that school as an institution is already a violence to them. It is traumatizing, built to make them fail, all the while telling them it's their fault because school is fair and based on merit. But it's not, because it values things and abilities as if all students start off from the same point (which is false) and make them believe the run was fair (which is false as well). Sometimes the blame is on the teachers, but most often it is the institution that inherently fails them and lowers their self-esteem. (Also, fun fact, I think it was a study done by IPSOS that showed that if they had the same grade, let's say an average of 9/20, in CE1, kids of workers were more likely to be made to redo their year, whereas rich kids would go to the next level anyway).

So you're right, it's easy to think that you shouldn't burn down a school when your rapport to it is: "what a great place, even if it pisses me off sometimes, I learn things and I can see my friends and have fun, burning it down would not help". But when school is a) a violence to you, and b) a lot of the time already breaking down because regardless of what they say on TV the State does not allocate enough resources to banlieues, well it's easier to burn it to the ground (this way maybe they'll actually rebuild it and be careful about abestos/amiante).

That doesn't mean it's good or right or forgivable and therefore forgiven (that's to your own discretion), but what it is, is understandable. These kids are fighting against a whole system, the police, its support by the State, and more widely the State itself and its shitty handling of banlieues and their inhabitants.

Okay, PART DOS, Is Violence Necessary, If So Which Kind

I'm gonna assume and hope you're not one of the people jerking off to theoretical revolution and praising the black block but getting scared when things actually get serious.

You're saying you wish they would be capable of keeping the riots to actual figures of police violence, I guess, or at least try not to harm innocents or do too much collateral damage (thinking about libraries, etc. I hope you can understand how schools also stand as violence to the rioters now).

My gut reaction is to say that's just not possible. If you really want the revolution and the change that comes with it (not just repealing the 2017 law), you have to be prepared to make sacrifices and for collateral damage (again, not saying it's good or right, or that you should thrive for it, just that it's virtually impossible to do without it).

I know some people have been saying they should go to actual places of power, go shake Darmanin out of his fascist bubble, but I also think people don't realize what this means. In the banlieues, they are in known and mostly friendly territory, which makes it easy for them to use the "be water" strategy (scatter when cops arrive). They know these streets and where to run, where to climb, where to hide. If they were to go to downtown Paris? they wouldn't have any of these advantages, plus they would be faced with the anti-riot plan built into the very architecture of the city streets (Haussman and Napoleon III I hate you). Just like the Parisians demonstrated against the pension reform in Paris, the place they know, the banlieusards are doing the same in the banlieues.

Now endangering kids is not the way to go, there we agree. The point of disagreement is that you think the rioters are going to be the ones making victims whereas I think the cops will, and already have (see the guy killed in Marseille by a flash ball impact, or the one from Mont-Saint-Martin in a coma).

(If you want to read something about the price of revolution, I'd recommend Les Justes by Camus, it's pretty short and you can come to different conclusions when you're done.)

You wrote "people need to have consideration for other kids in France". That sounds a tad condescending to me but I don't think you meant it that way. The problem is that they are not considered by other kids in France! as was showed in 2005 and as is showed today by the reactions on social media. You are asking the oppressed to make the first act of love here, and in a way you're right, Paulo Freire would say that next to violence, a revolution is only successful if it contains radical love, and that cannot come from the oppressor, but it is also a hard thing to ask of people. Especially when they know they will be ignored if they don't shake the political landscape a little.

I think you would enjoy reading Paulo Freire's Pedagogy of the Oppressed, it's not too long and it's very interesting regarding this topic.

Now I'd be careful with how you talk about the kids needing to "control themselves" because it sounds condescending here as well (though again I don't think that is how you mean it) and can be understood quite badly. I think what you may be alluding to however is the crowd effect that the riots can have. Once you start, breaking things with your friends, it does feel good, you release energy, you laugh, it's a good time really. The risk is to take the euphoria too far and not realize what you're doing, which of course happens but is really magnified by the media and is actually pretty marginal in the actual riots. But you're right that being in a group makes you forget about yourself (see: demonstrations, sport fans, etc.) and the rioters are not exempt from that.

I think, if anything, what one could fault the rioters for is that they are alienating themselves sometimes from their own communities. That is really going the same as in 2005 I feel like, with some worried moms, or people who agreed at the beginning but think it's lasting too long now. The problem is that politically, the people saying they will stop the riots are the National Rally (fascists) and at a smaller scale Rebirth (Macron's party, right wing). But Macron won't be able to run again next time (we wouldn't want him to) and I doubt his party is gonna hold without him. That leaves us with the fascist RN. So the kids could be building up to their own destruction.

(It is still important to say that even if the RN is elected next time, it will NOT be the rioters fault but the fault of the people who voted for a fascist party to lead the country.)

✨How did you come up with the OC’s name?

Well for starters, since she's a Zeti I obviously had to limit to Z names only as per zeti tradition of course, so theres that. In terms of her actual name though, I dont.... quite remember? I think it was something along the lines of taking Interesting and Unique names that already existed (meaning or letter make-up wise, etc) and then seeing if I could form it into a half-decent Z name? so I started with something like nyx I believe (given the end half of her name), and I somehow molded it into Zenyx- I liked having a Z, Y, and X in her name bc it felt unique to me? I am likely forgetting the full process but thats basically it I think. Now how you pronounce it gives it its extra flair so to speak ig 😂 It can be "Zen-ix" (Zen like Pen) or "Zeen-ix" (Zeen like Zeena); I personally use the latter but only bc the former makes it sound like a medicinal drug which is funny; but either or is fine I think.

As of the events of Sonic Lost World, she is roughly 140 years old Which places her between Zavok (148) and Zomom (133) on the D6's age scale!

Zenyx really isn't a picky eater, so she'll literally and happily eat anything... as long as it's not Fish/Seafood. She does find Sweets (especially cakey stuff) or Meaty Snacks (think jerky or SlimJims) most favorable though

Due to her being an Offcolor, she can't really do anything outside of the Six's territories, so all her work is limited to specific areas. She's normally relegated to Beast Work and Animal Handling- as she is a BeastKeeper just like her meemaw- like sheep shearing in Windy Hill or Bee Handling (and Honey Collecting) or Worm Wrangling in Desert Ruins for some examples. Otherwise she's sort of worked her way into being a sort of "right hand man" for Zavok in the Packs' "hierarchy" so to speak, as she doesnt normally disappoint when given tasks and is very eager to please.

🎹  - Do they have any hobbies?

I'd almost say a majority of her Beast Work counts as a hobby? As she doesnt just see all the beasts and critters of the Hex as objects or a means of "profit" and instead tends to make friends with them- making alot of the work later much much easier. As a BeastKeeper, she has a strange ability to understand them just a bit more than an average Zeti can. She does have a knack for collecting things though; normally cool rocks or shells, shiny things, special keepsakes from the others if they travel where she cant follow, and on a more morbid side- antlers n' bones/skulls n' horns... Not Zeti horns, though she has snapped a few tips from trespassers none the wiser as a warning. Frequent sneaky travel throughout the Six's territories as well, I think- hiking? I guess? She enjoys being active and running around and not being bored.

🎯  -What do they do best?

She's described as "versatile" due to picking up on things super quick, so she's really a jack of all trades I suppose when it comes to bringing skills to the table in comparison to the other Six. BeastKeeping would be an easy mention? Or hiding- as she's done so excellently her whole life, so stealth? I may have to come back to this if I think of anything else. Keeping the others in check? (affectionate)

Looking back on it now, her two best memories are likely... When Zavok encountered her, and after a bit of a scuffle 'n' chase, promised not to harm her if she'd just reveal herself. While he was a bit taken aback by her appearance (all the white), he wasn't as bothered by it as she thought he'd be- he seemed more focused on the fact she very easily gave him a bit of a run for his (non-existent) money by evading his chase for so long- and inadvertently cornered him up in the dead treetops where they then stood when she finally revealed herself proper. It'd evolve into a slow but steady friendship, which would eventually lead to her joining the Six- making them a Seven instead. In a hindsight type of way, she remembers it fondly and with a good chuckle, bc the encounter lead to Good Things rather than Bad Things like she often fears. The other is very simply put; finally meeting Zursie, her meemaw 🥺 It was a very heartwarming event and she always thinks about it sweetly. She loves her meemaw with all her heart- she is the only (bio) family she really has anyway, and Zursie couldn't care less what her granbby looks like. No Scary Superstitions will ever make her hate her beloved lil granbby, no sir! 😤 That first meeting was one that consisted of prolonged silent staring and then smiling and then some disbelief and alittle crying and alot alot alot of hugs! Hugs n snuggles n nuzzles

Yes and No- the only changes she's gone through is tweaking how her mouth works visually and making her more curvy/muscled? Oh and the pattern on her tail, that was different at one point. She has not gone through any major redesigning, just minor detail tweaking- everything else has stayed relatively the same since I created her.

Uh (secret context), wanting to be lil silly different, and my ever-growing love for the Deadly Six

Ah well... Her mama has long since passed (due to having zenyx) and her father (Zurius) went into a long, deep, very reclusive depressional state after hiding a bby Zenyx away. To put it short, she has virtually no relationship of any kind with her parent(s), but instead has a wonderful and extremely loving relationship with her grandmother Zursie (Zurius' mother) instead, despite said relationship only properly forming recently. (By recently I mean like for 20ish years by the time LW occurs).

🧠  - What do you like most about the OC?

She's just fun and I can make her as full of attitude yet sweet yet feral and powerhousey as I want; she still has her limits, but she has less limits then most of my other soncs do I guess? So i'd say I just love that she's easily very very fun to draw and write for- and she's a Zeti! She has easily been one of the easiest and funnest ways to focus on my own Zeti lore and bibble. She's just extremely fun to me, I love love love her alot. Im terrible at explaining things.

hyperfixations be damned, she (and zeti in general) are all i've been thinking of for months- So I would comfortably say fairly often at this point in time And considering how much of a favorite she has turned out to be amongst my OCs in general, she will likely always be thought about to some degree

Hahahahaaha Not again, she doesnt deserve that.

Uh, Untimely Death? Dying Alone? Losing a Loved one? uh Failure (of which results in being abandoned)? a more normal one ig would be needles/getting stabbed/impaled?

funny joke answer? I like to think her and Zazz have a very rival-esque tension sometimes, very competitive and insulting at times but still very fun in a way? they're friends and weirdly platonically affectionate deep down I promise (she is with all of them) arch-enemy would have to be Sonic (and Tails) by default, given the whole pack Does Not Like Him- but she's more aggressively annoyed by him (them) than anything. another default would be Eggman, now him she very comfortably despises with a fiery passion.

She really doesnt (aka cant) interact with anyone else on such a level usually to have formed any other 'Enemy' status' with anyone. I can tell you though that seeing her pack get handled the way they did during the Metal Virus does not sit well with her :) There might be a hitlist :)

5. Do you respond to comments? Yes! I try to respond to everyone and try not to be overwhelming in my gratitude lol. I so rarely get comments that each one feels like Christmas Morning to me and I want to cherish it forever.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? The Black City - the second part of my post-Trespasser Cullen/Theresa series, which ends with their relationship in tatters and them coming to the conclusion that the only way they can heal from their grief is apart. One of the hardest things I've ever written. T_T

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Swept Away - my super indulgent Josephine/Isabela adventure romance. I wrote it as a combination of Pirates of the Caribbean meets Jane Austen. I adore them!

8. Do you get hate on fics? No, never! I've been very lucky.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Yup! I've written one-shots as well as scenes incorporated into longer stories. It's almost never PWP though - I have tried and literally can't. For some reason it always ends up at least partly a character study lmao. And because it's me, there's also usually some angst worming its way in there. I am hopeless. ^_^;

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written? Nope. The closest I've ever come was D&DA Effect, which was me just taking the idea of "what if the plot of DA was actually just the crew of the Normandy playing D&D?" and cranking out a short dialogue-only scene. It reads like a transcript lol. It was definitely fun, but overall I don't have much interest in crossovers.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not to my knowledge.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated? I've had a couple people ask if they can translate one or two of my fics, and I've always granted permission. If they ever completed the translations, I was never tagged in them.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? A couple times, yes. I've participated in a couple round robins with my fellow server members, and did a pinch hit on an exchange event with another writer.

14. What's your all time favorite ship? Oh gosh I have so many.... My favorite to write for is definitely Cullen/Theresa, Theresa being my OC Trevelyan Inquisitor.

15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? Look. I really, REALLY wanna finish my Reprises & Reprisals series. I promise!!! I'm about to pick it back up in fact. But my worry is that once the fourth game comes out I may lose interest in writing for Inquisition for a while. And who knows when it'll come back. So I'm hoping to at least finish MOST of book two, which will at least get me to the end of the base game and the big revelation I've been sitting on for literal YEARS.

16. What are your writing strengths? Character and dialogue, and I've also been told that I write action well

17. What are your writing weaknesses? Repetition. Descriptive prose and scene blocking. Every time I have to describe what a character is physically doing in a scene, I immediately forget how to exist in a body or how to move one lol.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? If you are fluent enough to write in that language, write it out. Or if not, at least run it by someone who is. The more often languages other than English are included in stories shown to a primarily English-speaking readership, the less "other" it will become. Otherwise, it's best just to write it in English (WITHOUT writing the accent) and describe what language it's being spoken in. Conlangs and ciphers are definitely trickier, and I try my best not to lean too heavily on them, just because I don't feel I'm well enough versed in linguistics to really parse the nuances of such use without accidentally falling into unfortunate implications or stereotypes.

probably a weird question but any height hcs for the mekakushi dan?

not weird at ALL. not only does the mekakushi dan have CANON heights but i have my thoughts about them

from shortest to tallest, these are their CANON heights:

hiyori 138 cm (4'5'')

hibiya 140 cm (4'6")

mary 154cm (5'0")

ayano 155 cm (5'1")

takane 157 cm (5'1") as ene, 640 pixels

momo 162 cm (5'3")

kano 165cm (5'4")

kido 168 cm (5'6")

shintaro 172 cm (5'8")

seto 178 cm (5'10")

haruka 182 cm (6'0")

i dont think these heights are bad but i think they're a little silly, especially hibiya and hiyori. girl they're 12. they wouldn't be THAT tiny!!! ive been the same height since i was 12 tbh, ive been 154cm (5'0'') for ten years 😐😐😐 anyways. yeah. they wouldn't be that short, in my sick twisted mind hibiya and hiyori are around the height of mary ayano & takane.

which brings me to. ayano and takane's heights are a little weird, especially takane. they're mostly drawn with a big height difference with ayano being the tallest when they're actually listed with takane being 3 cm taller so they're rly the same height lol. i usually draw ayano as taller for the lols bc i love shortest of the quartet takane, so id probably either make ayano a little taller (maybe 160cm, which would put her as shorter than momo, or maybe just as tall as momo to have a more clear height difference with takane) or takane a little shorter, but i think her height is fine as is. im a little attached to the 157cm bc of how big of a revelation it was JEJDKEKD and idk mary is always described as super short when there's literally 2 other grown characters just as tall as her lol. take ur "kiddy" mary and shove it up ur ass jin ur weird 💗 mary is my height i get her the view is FINE from here.

the thing with takane is that he's got the whole Secret Identity thing like as is takane is KINDA a spoiler character? and enes whole thing is that no one knows where they came from so for a long time we only knew how big ene was in pixels ajdkwjdk and unlike everyone else she does NOT have the funny fun facts like a canon birthday or height or weight. we only know the height bc in a takane sketch from sidu they wrote next to it the 157cm and the fandom took it and ran with it. at least that's how i remember it, i was so damn excited. idk if it has ever been super confirmed (tho its been listed in the wiki for years), so i can see why its so inconsistent to ayano(and mary, who is also close to their height but we see takane with ayano more often) and his weight is listed as 2MB. thats soooo funny. mysterious weight takane sometimes it can be so #girl but also im kinda glad bc the weights are so fucking BULLSHIT.

anime when making a girl heavier than 45kg: 😱 girl are u fucking crazy. ayano and momo have the same weight? mary is listed as 130 apples heavy? its such a mess. the weights are SHIT and NOT REAL. anyways u didnt ask abt that but yeah their weights 👎👎👎👎👎 not real.

anyways. id make these characters around the same height (in the range of 154cm to 159 cm) from shorter to tallest: hiyori, hibiya, mary, takane, ayano. maybe even ayano as tall as momo. and hibiya and hiyori would probably grow taller than those 3 as they grow up lol. i think hiyori would end up in a height like momo's and hibiya would be just slightly taller than shintaro which would probably anger shintaro a lot. tho short king hibiya is also funny tbh

WHICH BRINGS ME TO THE TALLEST'S HEIGHTS. ok. seto and haruka. sits DOWN. i think haruka should be taller and seto should be what haruka is listed as. cuz like haruka is always described as like super weirdly tall and he's like omg i hate being so tall when 182cm is like. sure its really tall but i wouldn't call that a weird height??? thats like. idk to me its kinda average tall height. and AGAIN im 154cm so id know a tall person lol my little brother is 180cm (😐) and while he is tall i wouldn't say he's crazy tall!!!and seto just being below 180cm is soooooo wrong SO, to me seto has haruka's height which is 182cm and haruka is probably more around 188cm, maybe getting to 190cm just for shit and giggles. like now THATS what id call weirdly tall. maybe haruka is just called that all the time bc he hangs out with ayano takane and shintaro (shortest adult mekadan members & shintaros painfully below average for a guy height). but whatevers i do love haruka is the tallest character though lol

and the rest are ok. kido being almost as tall as shintaro is awesome. kano being short is also awesome. if im changing shit id make him as short as momo just for shit and giggles which if we go by all my other changes then he'd be as tall as ayano LOLLLL

well the fun just doesnt stop! the speeding ticket i got where the person in the picture is wearing a mask apparently is undeniably me and the ticket isnt dismissed so like i guess im out of fucking options and the police dont actually need evidence to give me this ticket if they want to so that means i get to spend probably around 230 on traffic school before the end of next month. and i made really great decisions this weekend which yes i take full responsibility for so im dead broke again and have my moms birthday coming up and would like to do the bare fucking minimum for her but that of course costs money and seeing her itself means im missing two days of making money and it costs a tank of gas to see her which is ridiculous. im probably going to have to ask my brother if its okay if im short on my rent giving the reasoning that i would normally ask mom for a loan and i obviously dont want to ask her that on her fucking birthday so im thinking hell understand but then i have another bill right after i would get back from my mom so if i dont make enough money before going up there im going to once again be scrambling to pay this bill while owing my brother money and then the weekend after my moms bday its one of my best friends bday the one who her birthday is sooooooooooooo fucking important to her and im just like dude i cant get you shit i cant help out with your party at all im not even sure i can sacrifice yet another two nights of not working to celebrate with you for 48 hours like i know you want. like im sure she would understand like its not within my total control here obviously i would love to have tons of money and like idk she can be upset sure but at the same time im struggling here lol. oh and to top it all off this is the first time ive hung out with my best friend alone in like 4 months and we were having such a great fun night although making really bad decisions and having great talks all fucking night and THEN GUESS WHAT he got fucking weird again and its like well great can i even spend time alone with my best fucking friend without him making me uncomfortable like do i have to question this friendship now because i guess he actually really did completely end things with his ex so what am i suddenly after all our years of friendship now for some reason on his radar??? does he just want to fool around or is he like trying shit with me? doesnt matter cause i dont fucking want any of that shit im genuinely not to be rude i see him as a family member at this point and im not in the slightest bit sexually attracted to someone i see as family like sorry. i guess it could be worse tho! i found 140 in my savings in another account so the fact that i didnt work saturday or sunday cause i was too fucking strung out was a little less severe. also technology popped off a bit with my lost card when i ordered a replacement it said that the ‘card’ on my phone will immediately update so i can access my main account without having to get a temp card so one less errand. and while i had a little bit of money the other week i did buy a little bit of groceries so i have been able to make it by not eating out since friday so woo. i went out earlier and stayed out a little later working tonight and did get a good amount of money. some gas stations are 40 cents cheaper for some reason although i didnt see those until after i filled up today so cool for tomorrow tho we know. ughhhhh im wondering if the constant stress of not having money is better than the constant stress of hating 9 hours of my day at a shitty job getting yelled at by random cunts im trying to help its really weighing on me! like i could just be making a lot of bad decisions thats probably the obvious detail here lol but damn its like it never ends. ugh lets be extra extra responsible for some time here and adjust

i have so many thoughts about post-canon patpran and one of them is do the high school friends ever find out about the two of them and how do they react?

another high school reunion 10 years later, i'm assuming they're married by now and their parents have had to come around: do they arrive together with rings on their fingers? shocking their friends from the get go?

or do they arrive separately like last time, their friends joking about the enemy arriving? maybe the two of them share smiles, so pat’s old friends are like glad you’ve grown up and put it behind you. maybe now that they’re all mid-30s they talk about spouses and pat’s ring begs questions but he waves them off with “it’s a ~secret~” only to have his friends be flabbergasted when halfway through the night pran and pat are found laughing together, wearing matching rings?

The Cafe For All/Cafe of Diversity

When I think of pride flags and displays of (diverse) queerness in BLs, I think of Not Me and tangentially Badhaai Do because of their giant pride flag scenes which included protests, joy/euphoria, fighting for rights, celebration, and were just momentous occasions. I loved those scenes.

What I love about The Cafe for All is how it's not as euphoric nor rare, I love the cafe with its casual display of queerness and community, just a space for queer people to safely exist and be themselves. You can spend time with your friends there, you can invite people into your little world there, you can divulge your struggles to your mom there and you can spy on your friends/frenemies there. You can be assured that you are not alone there.

Can Fjord knock out any given member of the Nein in a single turn—without critting? Level 14 Edition!

Some of you may remember that I did a post like this a while back—found right here if you want to have a gander—but in the time since, something very important happened to Fjord's damage output: he got a third 5th level spell slot.

This only makes it EASIER for him to knock out members of his own party, so I'm back again to run the numbers on the question: can Fjord knock out any given member of the Nein in a single turn without critting?

The answer remains: yes, except Yasha. Fjord can knock out any given member of the Nein who is not Yasha in a single turn by casting Searing Smite at 5th level and applying a 5th level Divine Smite to both his attacks for a total of 146 points of damage for the turn.

Yasha will remain solely standing due to her passive resistance to radiant damage; this includes even if he takes the better damage output of Banishing Smite instead.

Just as a bonus: if he does crit, however, he can very easily knock Yasha out with a single swing of a Banishing Smite + 5th level Divine Smite; he can also instantly kill Caleb and Veth, provided she does not Uncanny Dodge, with this same swing.

The parameters of this thought exercise are:

Fjord must knock out one given member of the Nein in one turn.

This member of the Nein is at full hit points (numbers as of 2.133): Caleb, 87; Veth, 98; Beau, 120; Caduceus, 121; Jester, 140; and Yasha, 154.

Fjord's turn is the first and only turn of the initiative.

Because of the previous, the given member of the Nein is not under the effects of any ability or spell, such as Death Ward or Rage.

All attack rolls succeed, and maximum damage is rolled.

None of the attack rolls are crits. After all, if this is achievable without them, it is certainly so with them.

On the Star Razor’s damage

The Star Razor is a +3 versatile weapon that does 1d8 (1d10) slashing damage. I will be treating it as two-handed here, so it will be calculated as 1d10.

Technically, it takes a bonus action to invoke, but it's unclear how evenly that distinction is applied across Fjord's to hit and damage calculations at the table. I'm choosing to not be pedantic about this, so these numbers assume an invoked Star Razor. If you choose to be pedantic, subtract 2 points of slashing damage off each swing, turning the +8 damage bonus into a +6 (since it was previously simply a +1 longsword un-invoked).

Searing Smite, two 5th level Divine Smites

As covered in the previous edition of this, Banishing Smite is Fjord's best option for raw damage output. However, due to its effect of banishing a creature should the attack reduce them to 50 hit points or fewer, it's finicky to use when the goal is to knock out the target in a single turn. So, we're progressing directly to his second option: Searing Smite, one of my favorites.

We saw this little Smite spell against one of the frost salamanders in 2.113, and what makes Searing Smite (1st level, 1d6 fire) truly fun is that its damage scales to the spell slot used to cast it: an additional 1d6 of fire damage for every spell slot higher than 1st. When cast at 5th level, it adds a total additional 5d6 fire damage to an attack.

So, he uses his bonus action to cast Searing Smite at 5th level, then applies a 5th level Divine Smite (5d8 radiant) to both attacks. As a reminder, since this is the first turn of initiative, Hexblade's Curse was not cast.

[(1d10 + 8) slashing + 5d6 fire + 5d8 radiant] first attack + [(1d10 + 8) slashing + 5d8 radiant] second attack

[18 slashing + 30 fire + 40 radiant] first attack + [18 slashing + 40 radiant] second attack

[88 mixed] first attack + [58 mixed] second attack

146 mixed for the entire turn

That total for the turn will knock out Caleb (87), Veth (98), Beau, (120), Caduceus (121), and Jester (140). It isn't enough to knock out Yasha (154) even before her resistance to radiant damage is applied.

Veth can attempt to Uncanny Dodge the first strike, halving it to 44 points of damage. The first strike would reduce her to 54 hit points, so the second strike would still knock her out.

Can he get Yasha with Banishing Smite?

Since Yasha is still standing, it's worth revisiting the option of bonus action Banishing Smite (5th level, 5d10 force), then applying two 5th level Divine Smites to each attack:

[(1d10 + 8) slashing + 5d10 force + 5d8 radiant] first attack + [(1d10 + 8) slashing + 5d8 radiant] second attack

[18 slashing + 50 force + 40 radiant] first attack + [18 slashing + 40 radiant] second attack

[108 mixed] first attack + [58 mixed] second attack

Yasha (154) due to her passive resistance to radiant damage will take 88 points (18 slashing + 50 force + 20 radiant) of damage on the first attack, reducing her to 66 hit points; as this is above the 50 point threshold to banish, she will remain on the plane for Fjord to finish his turn, but the second attack is not enough damage to knock her out, even before her resistance is applied.

Bonus: what if he does crit?

If Fjord crits on a Banishing Smite + 5th level Divine Smite, well, the short version is that he only needs one swing. Reminder, he gets an extra 1d10 to his melee weapon crits due to Savage Attacks.

2*(1d10 slashing + 5d10 force + 5d8 radiant) + (8 + 1d10) slashing

2*(10 slashing + 50 force + 40 radiant) + (8 + 10) slashing

2*(100) mixed + 18 slashing

200 mixed + 18 slashing

218 mixed

This is literally 2.5 times Caleb's max hit points (87), killing him instantly. Even if Veth (98) tried to Uncanny Dodge, it would reduce the damage only down to 109 points, which will save her from instant death but it will still knock her out. Yasha's (154) radiant resistance will halve the Divine Smite and bring the total down to 178 points of damage, but that is still comfortably enough to knock her out.

And he'd still have a whole second attack and a 5th level spell slot for a Divine Smite leftover.

piglin techno confusing the fuck out of ranboo hcs

i jus be doin some shit sometimes n then my brain is like ‘hey think a this’ and i been tryin to type this out but my internet is so bad rn i couldnt even Open a new post what the fuck. anywayss. this ran so long. so fucking long

started with ‘i wonder how piglins act’ and now technoblade is doin some shit, ranboo is so confused, and philza is a delighted bystander who is having the time of his life

technoblade is 100% piglin. many people think he’s part human to some degree but hes Completely and Utterly piglin

most assume as much since he doesnt begin to rot in the overworld. but short answer; he’s Built Different

long answer is a blessing of the bloodgod but shhhhhh

techno never corrects anyone or talks about being piglin or Anything. he just doesnt care what other people think and assume. the only one who Knows is phil

phil had first thought it was out of some sort of shame or desire to Hide it but. yeah. no. techno jus doesnt care. build; different

although more Notable piglin traits come to like if he’s close to people

piglins are both social and anti social. kinda. they can be hugely independent, do well without ‘proper’ socialization for a Long while. but they group together for Lifetimes. once piglins find a family or friends and expend Full trust to them. its all or nothing you Cant break them up

how tommy betrayed and turned his back on techno just. its like a physical pain. once he trusted and respected him, the mere Idea of betrayal was nowhere in question. it never occurred to him

philza is now the only person that techno consciously and subconsciously considers him a part of his ‘pack’ (i cant figure out a better term but that one doesnt Fit)

techno never realizes when he acts piglin traits out towards those he trusts. he never does so in company outside of what he considers family. philza notices though.

phil tends to study and research other races and cultures a lot. he’s been around a long while, has met many people of all different backgrounds. he likes knowing and understanding what he can. its just fun too.

it mostly started when he first met techno because he wanted to figure out what the FUCK techno was doing without asking and therefore embarrassing him

but phil knows techno well. and he knows piglins well enough. and he Knows techno doesnt ever seem to be self aware of his more inhuman habits

but Phil knows. and he Notices when techno starts to consider ranboo a part of the pack

First, it’s gifts.

surprisingly, its ranboo giving techno the axe first

he wasnt there to see it. but phil might as well have been present, considering how Horrifically in depth techno ‘ranted’ to him bout it

but techno reciprocates it and Then he really starts to notice more and more

first, it was giving the enchanted apple to ranboo. sure it Technically had been swiped by techno out from under ranboo but it was still Something. techno wasnt one to give up valuables easily

then techno starts ‘complaining’ about ranboos living area. and his eating habits. phil looks away when techno smuggles golden carrots into ranboo’s shack 

eventually technoblade is crafting ranboo a cloak to match their own and he’s freaking out about ranboo’s height and his dimensions and how much cloth he’ll need but he refuses to ask ranboo and phil is holding his head in his hands

(phil forces techno to gift him the cloak in person rather than stash it under his pillow and run like he’d planned. techno bitched about it but after ranboo practically lit up, burying himself in the cloak and thanking techno so hard his throat mustve hurt, techno was so practically purring the rest of the day)

after gifts, its noises. 

techno is seemingly silent. he doesnt speak up much, moves so quietly people tend to jump when he appears. 

in reality, he talks to himself constantly. either when alone or when in phil’s company. philza knows that aspect is the ‘voices’, and also just technoblade’s tendency to fill the silence and wonder his own thoughts aloud

but the snorts, squeels, grumbles, and other sounds he makes without realizing are some phil knows are piglin

its often guttural, a noise he makes in the back of his throat that rumbles and reverberates through his bones. 

itd sound terrifying to anyone, but after years of techno trilling deep when phil enters a room, when he returns from some sort of journey, when he says hello or makes his presence known in anyway, phil realized its more like a greeting. excitement to see him. it became something sweet

long story short ranboo nearly jumped so high his head went through the ceiling when he’d first walked into the home, said hello, and some gruff purr sounded from the techno’s chest

theyd both jumped so hard, stared at each other as if they were trying to figure out what was wrong with the other 

phil was physically pained as he held back his laughter to the point he was crying. that changed the subject to him quickly

it didnt happen again for a while, but phil didnt say anything and just watched. it was too entertaining

techno would make his small squeals between breaths when he remembered something, muttered to himself, snorted and huffed even as ranboo was around

ranboo got used to it. he stopped jumping or even looking confused when techno trilled some sort of deep purr when ranboo would join them for dinner

lastly, techno was tactile

or, as tactile as he could be. techno wasnt touchy even on a great day. he was selective, reserved, would lean into phil or loop an arm over his shoulders but would never say anything about it

phil didnt question it and would just pat techno on the arm without saying a word

but. sometimes. when phil would be gone for a long time, techno would rest the entire weight of his head on phil’s shoulder, practically encapturing him, rumbling and grumbling so harsh it shook phil’s whole body

phil still wasnt certain on this one. he couldnt find much in the way of what it meant. piglin’s tended to stay with their own, and they never reunited after long periods of time because they never would dare to separate for long

 he was kind of guessing here, but the way techno would drop his shoulders and practically melt made phil think he was just missing him and wanted to confirm phil’s presence. 

it wasnt like he complained. it was sweet

ranboo had been gone a while. he was vague on why, or where. phil had a suspicion or two but ranboo kept a lot of secrets

neither techno or phil pried too far, but phil could tell it was disconcerting to techno. he was tense and kept himself almost deathly busy for two weeks

(piglin rarely if ever kept secrets from one another, phil had read once. omitting a few things here and there, maybe. but lying or deception was out of the question)

phil hadn’t been there when ranboo returned. he’d been gathering firewood after techno was insistent they completely top up all of ranboo’s stores

he’d heard the muffled growls techno made as he walked towards ranboos shack, before even seeing him. 

when phil found them techno had ranboo nearly completely obscured in his cape, and definitely he’d have been out of sight if he was any shorter. 

techno’s head was lofted heavy in the crook of ranboo’s neck, forcing ranboo to hunch with arms wrapped tight around ranboo. his arms were pinned. 

ranboo caught his eyes, looking so scattered and tired and confused and maybe even terrified. he might have spoken or maybe he just mouthed ‘help me’ but the gruff purr-like sound techno made was too loud to hear him anyways

philza shoved his fist in his mouth to keep from laughing

later that night ranboo asked phil if techno was going to kill him. phil wanted to scream

even later then, techno had admitted to phil that, yeah, okay, maybe ranboo was growing on him. phil had never felt so violent

"Hey, Void?"

The demon hums in answer; the sound rumbles in his chest and its vibration travels down to the back of Stiles' head, Void's fingers lazily dragging through his hair. They're messy and a bit sweaty, but Void doesn't seem to care and it feels way too amazing for Stiles to worry about their current state.

"Do you ever let your tails out?" 

Void stills, as if taken a bit off guard, and Stiles continues fiddling with the demon's hand cradled in his own. 

"Y'know, like, let them show. I know you do that sometimes, but it's so rare and you hide them so quickly, and— well, I can see them, if I want to, but still—"

"Stiles." Void's tone isn't even that different from his normal one, smooth in that raspy voice of his, but the infliction behind it is enough to make Stiles clamp his jaw shut and shift 99 percent of his focus back to fiddling with Void's fingers, which — funnily enough — Void doesn't do absolutely anything about. "You do remember you just need to ask for what you want, don't you?"

Stiles huffs out a petulant breath, chin curling down to his chest, and refuses to give in just long enough for his face to start feeling like a furnace; Void does love making him speak his mind, always did. But damn the demon for being so persistent while this killer heat wave is going on, it's way too hot for his temperature to be rising from embarrassment, thank you very much.

"Fuck, yea, okay—" Stiles finally abandons Void's hand, sitting up to look to his right; to meet Void's dark eyes and immediately lose all his just-gained confidence. "Could I, uh— I mean, do you think I could touch your tails? Or, just one tail? Like, at all?"

Void's mouth quirks in the corners — not quite a smirk yet, but close enough.

"It's possible," the demon muses, the smug bastard, and as Stiles' eyes bug out in quiet (and incredulous) disbelief, Void refuses to say anything more. Because of course he won't make it easier on Stiles. 

They stay locked in their little stare down for a long minute, Stiles narrowing his eyes in a weak attempt to show his irritation and force Void into giving in, and Void completely relaxed and smirking without a care in the world, perfectly aware he's calling the shots here. 

Stiles purses his lips and scrunches his face and he's ready to get even snarkier, when Void asks:

"What is it, darling? So hard to just ask one little question?" 

Curving up one brow and his voice full of mockery, and there's— There's something in Void's tone, something well hidden but different enough for Stiles to pick up on — like a note out of tune underneath the taunt. It gives Stiles a pause.

 And that's when it hits him. 

How very hard it must be for Void to even consider just showing his tails — as if it's nothing, as if he wasn't hiding for hundreds of years, as if they're not the highest proof and representation of his power and spirit. How intimate of a request it must truly be — and as close and intimate as they are, this— This isn't something Void is in any way used to. And if all of that didn't give Stiles enough of an idea what his petulant behavior must've felt like, the coolness under his shadow's rune would be a dead giveaway; they don't withdraw from their bond unless they have to — or not in this way, at least. 

All the ugly energy goes out of Stiles like air escaping a popped balloon, instantly and with a hiss, leaving behind a strange emptiness that almost seems to ring in his ears. Stiles swallows down the bitter taste in his mouth, lamely fidgeting with Void's hand that's still in his, somehow, as his face burns even hotter. It still doesn't make him miss the moment Void's energy changes flavors, though; that barely noticeable, cold steel melting away. And Void would be ready to offer it to Stiles now, he's sure of it, but fuck that, Stiles was in the wrong here and if the only thing Void's asking of him is for Stiles to, well, ask, then that's the least he can do. 

"Sorry," he mutters first, still a bit curled in on himself, but it's no way to pose his question; so Stiles gathers his wits and faces Void again — this time without expecting anything, "would you let me touch your tails?"

Void doesn't answer immediately, keeping Stiles' gaze steady for a drawn out moment before his lips finally quirk into a slight smile — a half-smirk Stiles already knows is mostly a front, and also just one of Void's versions of showing fondness. He turns his hand in Stiles' grip, fingers grazing against Stiles' in a brief caress, but before Stiles can even pay it any attention, it's wholly derailed to something brushing by his shoulder. Stiles glances back over it— 

And whips around so quickly he almost gets dizzy. 

Sure enough, right there, right before him, is one of Void's tails. Curving up from behind Void's hip, it spreads wide at the base and narrows to a silvery-white tip, so long it almost curls into a spiral over the demon's legs.

“I must say, Stiles, you do make such a pretty picture right now,” the demon muses, claws trailing feather-light over Stiles’ stomach, “tied up with my hand around your throat.”

His smirk curves up, sharp and mean, as Stiles swallows thickly against those long fingers. They tighten, just a little — just enough to make it that much harder to breathe.

“I bet you’ll look even better with all these bruises it's going to leave, hm?”

Stiles shudders, uselessly wringing his hands where they’re held together by the wrists and secured to the headboard. It doesn’t do anything beyond amusing Void further, eyes hungrily taking in Stiles’ naked body draped all over the bed and his lap.

The wait's already killing Stiles and he can’t even do much more than curve up into Void’s touch; try to wiggle his hips as the fingers dig into the meat of his thigh. Every little move makes his muscles tense up around the plug nestled deep inside, keeping him nice and ready for taking, the smallest shift sending hot little thrills all over his body. Stiles couldn’t possibly feel any more helpless and on display than he is now — back arched into a perfect bow, ass resting in Void’s leather-clad lap and legs bent around the demon as he trembles, his aching erection dribbling precome all over his abs.

Wrapping his hands around the length of rope tied to the headboard, Stiles pushes against the demon — both the grip at his throat and the thighs Stiles is resting on — and bites back the mewl that rises in his throat. But those little, delighted sparks in Void's eyes are more than worth enduring the delirious torture Stiles is sure to get.

“Please—”

How fitting, that his voice is so hoarse and thin it's barely coherent.

“Please what?” The demon purrs, all delighted and mean in the curve of his smirk.

“Touch me?” Stiles' tone wavers, ever so slightly, but it's enough to inch his ultimate goal closer to reality — there's something about Stiles' begging and whimpering that gets to Void, delights the demon in ways only visible in moments like this one. And maybe that's because only in those moments Stiles lets himself enjoy it, show the side that he'd never otherwise, trusting Void with his submission — and maybe it's also because Void knows Stiles like no other. Sees through him so intimately and wholly; Stiles' every need and desire like an open book. And the demon relishes in everything he can take from Stiles, always.

Void doesn't answer, but his hand moves, just slightly, from Stiles' throat — thumb pressing over his lower lip.

“Maybe I should've gagged you too,” he muses, a spark in dark eyes even when his voice doesn't carry any significant weight, thumb dipping into Stiles' mouth. “I wonder how much more desperate that would make you. Not being able to beg so sweetly.”

Stiles trembles, heat spreading all over his exposed skin and some new tightness wound around his lungs. It's hard to tell, in the moment, if the idea is more thrilling or scary, but Stiles discards it for now, because—

“You wouldn't like the aftertaste,” he says, throwing it out on a chance and licking his lips over. As much as the demon doesn't mind, or even enjoys, the messiness that comes with sex — be it cum or sweat — he despises the artificial. It’s a good thing then, that Stiles found he actually prefers more natural lubricants — or lack thereof, on occasion. Then there's the fact that— “And you enjoy hearing me.”

Void's lips twitch in one corner, a small, amused breath escaping on an almost chuckle.

“Hard to deny that, but—” His smirk curves into an even meaner, mischievous one as he presses his thumb deeper into Stiles' mouth, right behind his teeth. “—who said we'd be buying a plastic one? Or getting any, really? We could… get creative, couldn’t we?”

And Stiles' whole body breaks out in little thrills when his mind finally catches on what exactly he means.

Void's only reaction is an even more delighted, half-lidded look.

“Like that, didn't you?” He chuckles, claws dragging against Stiles' thigh, digging into the fleshy inside before he brings his hand all the way down and takes a hold on the butt of the plug. “Those ties laying around in your closet, the underwear I just pulled off of you. Sooo many possibilities, so many ways to make use of them, hm?”

Stiles almost chokes on his own spit when Void pulls at the plug — slowly, so very slowly withdrawing the toy until only the tip is hooked against his rim — then pushes it back in at the exact right angle to make stars burst behind his eyelids. The spark of pleasure that shoots up Stiles' spine feels possibly electric and the way Void's fingers tighten around his throat makes it burn just that much hotter, just on the edge of too much.
