Como forma de protestar contra a sexualização feminina no esporte, as atletas da equipe alemã de ginástica artística dispensaram os tradicionais collants, que deixam os seus membros inferiores expostos, e adotaram calças para competir nos Jogos Olímpicos Tóquio 2020, em julho deste ano.

A mudança foi apresentada pela primeira vez em abril, durante o Campeonato Europeu de Ginástica Artística 2021, na Suíça, pela ginasta alemã Sarah Voss. Durante os Jogos Olímpicos Tóquio 2020, as demais atletas da equipe alemã Pauline Schäfer, Elisabeth Seitz e Kim Bui, decidiram juntar-se à Voss e aderiram aos trajes compostos por collants e leggings que cobrem do pescoço aos tornozelos.

A utilização do traje de corpo todo para as mulheres está autorizada pela Federação Internacional de Ginástica (FIG), mas até então só tinha sido usado por motivos religiosos.

“É importante que possamos determinar como aparecemos a qualquer momento. A nova possibilidade de autodeterminação quanto à escolha das roupas nos dará ainda mais forças no futuro”, disse Sarah Voss no seu Instagram pessoal, junto a #ItsMyChoice, “essa é a minha escolha” em português.

A federação alemã disse que elas estão se posicionando contra a "sexualização na ginástica", acrescentando que a questão se tornou ainda mais importante para prevenir casos de abusos sexuais. Voss disse que, embora nunca tenha sofrido abusos, ela e suas colegas são exemplos para atletas mais jovens e por isso querem encorajar todos a se defenderem.

 Nos últimos anos, a ginástica artística vem tendo que lidar com casos de abuso sexual e denúncias de assédio, especialmente depois que denúncias contra Larry Nassar, ex-médico da equipe nacional de ginástica artística dos EUA, vieram à tona em 2015.

 Nassar foi julgado em 2018 pelo Tribunal Federal dos EUA e condenado a 175 anos de cadeia por molestar mais de 300 atletas durante os 20 anos em que foi médico da equipe nacional, dentre elas, Simone Biles, que, após depor contra Nassar este ano em setembro, diz querer falar abertamente sobre o abuso sexual no esporte e dar voz aos sobreviventes.
