look what came in the mail 🥺🥺🥺. very small october book haul due to the amount of time its taking me to read what i already have (mainly war and peace, which has been proven to be a very enjoyable but slow journey)
#i got too smug with my late acquisitions and all books i have to tackle are enormous. read les miserables & moby dick#im trying not to falter however and buy other books just to leave those unnatended because of intimidation#cant wait to read hesses the glass bead game however#i dont think ive said this before but steppenwolf was definitely one of my favorite reads ever. siddharta was fine in comparison i think#but steppenwolf really sold hesse for me. sorry#and yes i never read neither dracula NOR frankenstein which will be my spookyfest choices for this year#i was convinced by a friend on trying the waves although woolfs a room of ones own did nothing for me#but here we are giving second chances. very proud of myself#ANYWAYS besides war and peace im also reading the sea the sea (finally) and loving it#unfortunately did not pair them very well since they are both very long reads#BUT. it is what it is

the results of that "is fanfic a book" poll have shown me one thing and its that this site never graduated past that absolutely insufferable phase in 2013 where everyone acted like every book is the single most sacred thing on earth
#sorry rant incoming. you know like the people who got way too offended over dog earing or carving books for art or things like that?#that's what the notes section of that poll feel like. just way too many people (on both sides) putting way too much importance on Books.#like first you have the 'um ive read fanfic that was deep and beautiful and thematic so yes all fanfic is books' votes#which like. ok. ive also read really deep thematic screenplays but that doesnt make it a book its simply not. what a book is#then you have the honestly even worse 'um your reylo au isn't like the works of the masters its not REAL BOOKS' crowd#which like. yeah most actual published books are not as good as the 'works of the masters' whatever that means. so you have proven nothing#which brings us back to the absolute worst of all 'colleen hoover & co aren't books either' SOMEHOW#like. ok well i think her work is pretty bad but it was literally edited and published into literal books so#if you're going to decide that you get to be the arbiter of what books are Good Enough to count as Real Books well you've lost already.#because no that's not how any of this works. youre fighting one of the most famous Losing Battles in all of art discourse.#a book is just. a format that writing can be in its not some holy status you have to work to acheive#and to try and turn it into that is really stupid and self important i think because like again#who gets to decide what books are Real? what motivates them to make that choice? what biases are benefited from that?#i think its worth noting in conversations like this everyone wants to deny female romance authors the title of Real Book#(which yes a lot of those books are very shallow or badly written. many have outright offensive tropes)#but nobody mentions the equally shallow and offensive stuff by/for men. like william johnstone's shitty cowboy books for example.#no matter how you try to frame it youre going to lose the second you decide something has to fit your standards to be real art.#avpost#its very reminiscent for me of the conversation around modern art where people just want to say they know what is and isn't real art#based on like whatever standards they want. 'ugh its just dots it's not real art'. do u see where im coming from.#a book is just. a piece of writing that was edited and published in the form of a physical book. that's it. its a v literal if vague noun.#it can be something with a lot of depth and meaning. it can be shallow and hacky. it can be nonfiction entirely. its not a value statement#which can also be said about art as a whole some of it is very shallow and bad. some of it is extremely skilled and profound#anyway. no fanfic isn't inherently books but some fanfics have undergone editing & publishing and became books i think#and that doesnt mean that they're 'as good as' the classics by really skilled writers. but theyre still books#tbh a lot of the published fanfic books are worse than most nonbook fanfic. them being books isnt a statement of being more valuable.#its just a literal fact.#i think its interesting to discuss but i swear its not a huge deal whether fanfic is books the bigger deal to me is#the weird attitude popping up on both sides. which i think most people would also find stupid if their brains hadnt been like#totally ruined by an uninterrupted 5 years of insufferable-on-all-sides fanfic discourse that has ruled this website.

#i almost got hit this morning by some fuckwad while i was walking home from the coffee shop#it was his turn to go ajd it looked like we were going same direction cuz he didnt have a blinker on#so i waited a second and he didnt move and didnt have a blinker so i started crossing#and when i was halfway through the intersection he fucking booked it and then stopped feet from me??#i shouted 'what the fuck are you doing?' and he said 'im sorry!' and i shouted 'go fuck yourself!' and he said 'im fucking sorry!'#so it was bad all around#and this is the third time ive almost been hit in like nine months. because people do not pay attention#theres too much distracted driving and bad driving and its all too dangerous so the only people driving should be buses#and i mean that so seriously#long distance travel? train plane or bus. short distance travel? train foot or bus#i hate cars so so much#if i had a genie wish it would legitimately be to get rid of cars

Well, one year to go
#well at least im trying for that#ive scheduled round two for alaska and hopefully i see the lights this time#and my second favorite band announced yesterday they're coming here with guess who? another of my favorite bands#(blackbriar and battle beast may 2024)#i literally said the other day id be happy if i got to see them and now they're coming! can you believe it#but im tired...my health has plummeted and i am not doing well#im not going to last#ive just got to hold out for these last bucket list items#so im trying for the auora again in september around the equinox#ugh it's so bad im hooked up to shit all day now and constantly have to monitor tachycardia for instance#im exhausted. i can barely breathe. it hurts so much. i never stop shaking and spasming now#but hey ive started playing dnd...finally found a group. so that's crossed off my list too and it's been very fun so far#i need to get the motivation to read all the books i want to read#it aint in my control though...i just have to hope i can hold out until september#ive been trying lots of new foods but there's still so much more i want to try#but yeah im tired...every day i wake up from pain and feel like im going to die...if i sleep at all#even clare has given up it's progressed too much#but im trying. im trying#and ive been gathering all our family photos and things so theyll have memories#me and my dad take a selfie every time he visits too#idk. there's not a whole lot i can say without making people sad but it's been so much lately#i struggle to scrape through the pain every day. it's been 14 years. i just want to be free#it's not like i want to die...i just want to be free of the pain and rest finally#wish me luck#p

accidentally read too far in my little women reread and now oh im miserable
#little women is the only book that i let myself not finish. repeatedly#i used to try to brave the whole book at least every other reread (every year)#but the past few years ive hashtag protected my mental health by stopping before things got too heartbreaking#which is usually no more than a few chapters into the second half#and THIS year (2023) (like five minutes ago) not only did i go a little bit further than i should have#i also (in an episode of insanity) actually sought out the chapter in which jo breaks lauries heart#anyway..am miserable#i dont know why i picked it up again today. i read exactly the healthy and appropriate amount yesterday#anyway. im going to make myself miserable with the film so whatever#kirastfu

ik im talking a lot abt the books im reading rn (this is due to the fact that after eons of not having the time or energy i am once again reading books) but theydies i can happily announce that after 2 unsuccessful weapons and wielders books soulbrand has truly captured my enamoration once again i’m kissing keras lovingly and tenderly (the only way to kiss him)
#just got to the scene where he fights edria song & she's so sweet about it and he's so unintentionally flirtatious#ugh !!!!! babygirl <3#like dgmw theres nothing wrong w the first two but like they just haven't been for me#and its like there truly is no rhyme or reason as to why because i love keras i love dawn and reika absolutely#and i especially love seeing keras as . you know. keras. instead of as taelien (but taelien is my sweet angel forever so yk)#like its not like i prefer keras to t or anything i just like seeing his growth and his changing#so idk why the first two didnt like hook me as much as any of the other books within the universe#but anyway. soulbrand has gotten me thank god ! i think i should get the paperbacks for w&w to like#reread them and just see if the medium might make a difference#eventually i wanna own all the andrew rowe books but i do also have to prioritise cause i only have the first 2 aa books#and how to defeat a demon king i found that one second hand as like a library copy im p sure ??? which is cool#so anyway i wanna complete aa first and honestly i do also very much want to own wobm very dearly#but those ones are just for the collection of it all because i dont think i'll ever reread those physically i love the audiobooks too much#and i dont have That much annotating to do in those as opposed to the arcane ascension ones#and then we get into the shatter crystal legacy (not what its called cant right recall rn) of which . i think the second one is out#but anyway ive only read the first one but would love to have that one as well obv#ugh. i love this universe so much it truly is so captivating to me#recently read

Love the feeling of going back to a draft after a legit year and laughing out loud at shenanigans you forgot writing.
#rose and rambles#prosie's writing adventures#so i have a fairy tale series in the works and bonus points to whoever remembers this but#i did write book 2 once i finished book 1#i just haven't touched it literally since writing the first draft and its been a year almost exactly#i finished it last august/september#and i went back to it to give a reread because ive known there were things i was going to fix so im getting prepared to do that#and the thing about the fairy tale series is i want each book to follow different protagonists and there's an overlapping narrative#that drags everyone together in the last book#and my antagonist from the first book makes an appearance near the end of the second book#because of background machinations#his name is robin and hes such a little jerk fr fr#but it was so funny because i forgot exactly what happens with him#and he ends up getting chased away by an arctic fox and theres a scream and were meant to assume he was frozen#and im like beautiful. love he gets frozen before the day is saved#poetic justice. BUT THEN AFTER THE THREAT IS NULLIFIED THE LITTLE BRAT POPS OUT LIKE 'NEVER FEAR I HAVE THE SOLUTION' COMPLETELY OKAY#I FORGOT THAT AND JUST STARTED LAUGHING#anyway the fear exists that this story is too self indulgent and it does need work still#but it got me to really laugh so you know what? that's enough rn#I love robin so much#hes meant to be the most pathetic antagonist but his ego is off the charts#and he's only fueled by petty revenge against a protag in the first book so he gets roped into a grander scheme by the main antagonist#he's just a delight#not to hang out with but to write and hopefully to read XD

Mayfair Witches production value felt like a cross between a CW show (random slow popish song during dramatic moments) and the newer Lifetime adaptation of Flowers in the Attic (my guilty pleasure).
#ive only read the first mayfair book#got a little into the second but didnt get very far#i liked the first mayfair book!#but this show.....yikes#listen i love flowers in the attic show and the weird prequels and sequels but it's just incest drama#and that's half of mayfairs too#i wasnt expecting hbo or netflix quality production#but it looked so cheap#the cgi (which im a snob of) looked pretty god awful#and the intro was interesting in concept just so poorly executed#i'll watch the season because im a glutton for punishment#and i want to see what amc thought they bought the rights to#i cant critique amc's butchering of anne's work if i dont watch#hulu iwtv

every time i think about how i miss being in an active discord server, i consider making my own only to realize i'd probably send the invites to like. the 3 people I've talked with enough privately because discord servers with more than 6 people are terrifying places :D
