at the beginning of this week's episode, celia mentions someone named "jack". in the magnus archives, there was a statement giver named jack barnabas, who fell in love with agnes montague. also in the magnus archives, lynne hammond, known as "celia" after the change, sees agnes' ghost. i am connecting the dots. what does it mean.

I get so defensive of the women in TMA like "she killed people" "She fed that guy to the distortion!!" "She was mean to Jon!" " She tried to kill Jon" "She set that guy's head on fire!!" "She set that house on fire!" Like, God forbid women have hobbies right??? God forbid women do anything!!!

True Loves Kiss ( when kissing the messiah/the anti-christ please be cautious. though it may draw you out of the lonely it could also lead to severe facial scarring, but hey, you score either way!)

I’ve been going feral recently thinking about Jack Barnabus and Agnes Montague. Average man and fear goddess. Dude trying to impress a girl he’s sure is out of his league, and the literal incarnation of destruction who just wants a taste of a normal life. Is he the only person in her life who has neither worshiped nor feared her? Their conversations make her question her faith. She burns his face off but he still can’t bring himself to regret their time together, or to think of her with anything but awe and fondness. Did she know what she was doing, or was she human enough to get caught up by emotion and forget for a moment what her touch would do to him? A love that leaves him disfigured and which acts as the catalyst for her death. Is it comedy or tragedy? Coffee shop au but it’s canon.

[ID: Digital sketch of Jack Barnabas and Agnes Montague based on a screenshot from Pushing Daisies. Agnes holds a heatproof silicone baking sheet (labelled with text and arrows above it) up to Jack’s face and kisses him through it. They both have peaceful, happy expressions and Jack’s hand is on Agnes’s waist. End ID.]
inspired by the Pushing Daisies Kissing Technique™, here’s how jack/agnes can still win

@mement0m0r1 sharing this here because we’re onto something
Celia mentions a “Jack” at the beginning of Episode 11: Marked, right? Stick with me for a moment.
The name Jack has appeared only three times before in TMA: once mentioned offhand by Breekon, once tangentially related to the Everchase, and finally (and most PROMINENTLY) in Jack Barnabas, the man who dated Agnes Montague and ruined the ritual of the desolation.
Now, assuming that Celia is in fact the same from TMA, this would mean she was originally known as Lynne Hammond. Lynne Hammond gave a statement in MAG: 100 “I guess you had to be there,” talking about a ghostly woman who was on fire and could burn her- which *seems* linked to the desolation.
Conclusion: After losing Agnes, Jack Barnabas went on to date Lynne Hammond, inciting the anger of whatever connection Agnes still retained to the world and making her appear to Lynne. Now, in this alternate universe, Celia is still dating Jack Barnabas
Thoughts?

My headcanon is that, much like how people have escaped the Lonely by focusing on the image of their loved ones, a person totally could survive kissing Agnes and overcome her burning curse if they truly, thoroughly loved and trusted her through all the pain and didn’t draw back even for a moment. Dream logic, and all. Very Dune, very Gom Jabbar.
Jack couldn’t do it because he didn’t actually know what the hell was going on or what he was doing. Maaaaybe if he’d had time to properly fall in love and had known what she was, if he’d then had the guts to do it anyway. Gertrude couldn’t have done it because she doesn’t trust like that, though her binding ritual means she wouldn’t have had to. And Jude isn’t going to be overcoming the Desolation for Agnes because she’s Desolate herself.
