still thinking about how some of the guns that follow jade into the dreaming world are not her default weapons at this point in the comic, which is the hunting rifle and one she uses most often prior to the shit lets be santa alchemy session

instead, there is the harpoon gun used to make the zipline to escape her tower without bec noticing

and the other is the very (set) of guns that left her all alone on an island in the first place

i v much have trouble stopping talking when it comes to this part but one of the most important conversations in homestuck in my opinion with respect to jade is the one between her and tavros a bit after her dreamself/dreambot dies/explodes, from pages 3049-3057 where tavros tells jade taht he saved her life/killed grandpa harley etc etc

in the convo jade also says how (as a natural theory) she automatically assumed that her grandpa had killed himself (well, formerly that the blue haired doll had until she got older), and thus leaving her to her life of isolation.

(and as a side note, theres multiple references to grandpa and jades rifle usage, in contrast to a world of a yellow moon without grandpa jake in it where the specific gun is absent)

(and you could also say something about how jake harley built robo jade to study jades dreaming and prospit while also keeping jades dreamselfs corpse in the room directly above her room, and so jade grew up surrounded both above and below her by a mirror of another world without her grandpa)

any way this was toatly incoherent prolly lol

i know this is easily overlooked bc dirk is the robot guy but jake is also good at robotics. he (with jades help ofc) built the robot that killed the black queen in like. 2 seconds. and his pre-scratch self built jade's dreambot

Jade Harley:

She has narcolepsy due to some meddling from another character, but it's narcolepsy nonetheless. She spends a lot of time sleeping, but that does hold her back as she's able to get a lot done on Prospit (a sort of dream world). She cares a lot about her friends and has a lot of interests like nuclear physics, cartoons, her dog, and being a markswoman.

She loves sleeping and dreaming!

She's got narcolepsy (....kinda, it's complicated) so for most of her initial appearances that girlie is just off in sleepy town, absolute snoozeville. Also I have great respect for her ability to look so comfy while sleeping in objectively uncomfy places, like a greenhouse floor

sometimes the world just needs a sleepy whimsical puppy girl. that's how it is

she falls asleep at random moments, and she has a robot that acts out her dreams for her so she doesn't sleepwalk and potentially get hurt, but the effect of this is her online friends aren't always sure when chatting with her whether she's awake or asleep. they don't tend to realize they're talking to dreambot jade until she says something completely bizarre and nonsensical, but then sometimes she says strange and silly things while awake because she's a very silly girl (/positive) and trying to parse whether a thing she said is just her being silly vs her being asleep can be difficult. also she sometimes has visions of real events happening somewhere or some*when* else in her sleep.

I'm immediately reminded of Jade's robot - but her circumstances probably don't apply here, since this is a soulbot, not a dreambot. Plus, Aradia doesn't even have a dream self. The only other thing which comes to mind is Sollux's ~ATH script, a virus which already claimed the life of one machine.

Could Aradia have been running some ~ATH code, trying to prevent the summoning of Lord English? If she was desperate enough to run an ~ATH program on her own CPU, just about anything could have happened.

Either way, her body has been destroyed - but we've seen her spirit persist without one. I highly doubt that this is where her story ends.

Anyway, Aradia's PoV is a dud. Vriska, then?

I still hold to my assertion that Vriska doesn't lie to people - but, as demonstrated here, she lies to herself near-constantly.

Holy hell, that was impressive. She baited Vriska into being nice, and the moment she saw a hint of vulnerability, she struck. Even Terezi hasn't managed a burn like that.

I've always been interested in characters who are good, but not nice. Feferi seems to take things one step further. She's good and she's nice, while still being a dick.

DogMan (Greg Knight), 80-HD (???), Petey, + (partially) Lil Petey are all humans, however 80-HD has a Jade situation where they sleep a whole bunch and have a dreambot. the group are the Main Human Session (there's another involving the actual humans from DogMan)

Lil Petey is a paradox clone of Petey.

Greg prototyped himself as his sprite and then threw in his dead dog's ashes to create Gregsprite.

nobody is a cop here they're just regular people im sorry about that detail.

Chief and Greg are close friends, but Chief decided to have his Sburb session with Genie, Sarah, Yolay, and the other humans. Maude is trying to secretly sabotage the session.

Greg + 80-HD are roommates so that makes their part of the session easier, however Petey lives alone until Lil Petey is cloned.

Greg's pesterchum handle is canineCranium. that's the only one i have figured out.

Petey insists on building everything they need at once while Greg and 80-HD defeat imps (he's their client host, however Greg is working as Petey's host at one point), only wanting to use grist for fully important things, even when they have more than enough. however this doesn't stop the two from making a few silly things with punched cards now and then.

Lil Petey isn't SUPPOSED to be Petey himself, but is more of a combination of Petey and his dead cat. (which Petey had previously prototyped as his sprite. no, the cause of death was not being prototyped.)

at some point Petey and Lil Petey make their way to the other two's planet and help there.

thinking about a hard of hearing jade who ended up with piss poor hearing because of shooting on her island without ear plugs. thinking about how she'd still rock her bass (and suck at the flute) solely based on intuition and "what vibrations feels right" because she's just like that. dave thinks she's got some gizmo tricks up her sleeve like her dreambot or anything she tinkers to help guide her but nope she just wings it from the vibrations she feels when she plays. i think dave would be absolutely enamored and interested in how she could possibly do that so flawlessly (most of the time), maybe even be in a little disbelief in the first place. i want him to be even more impressed when they collab on a song and jade just makes it work because she's just Like That.

Thinking about that moment where Aranea puts Jane to sleep, only for Jane to start sleepwalking with her arms extended like Hollywood mummy... the phrase "dreaming dead" is usually understood to refer to ghosts in the dreambubbles, but now I'm kind of receiving it as a morbid euphemism for the living, I guess. The cherubim take turns sleepwalking as they dip in and out of the sarcophagus, for example... and the sleepwalker Jade of course has a visceral terror of not being in full control of her faculties.

Since brainghost!Dirk was implanted upon Jake's psyche by the robot docking in the station connected to Jake's bed, I briefly wondered if this were the case for Jade too -- if she echoed Grandpa's words verbatim and yelled at his corpse because she has a literal brainghost!Grandpa to contend with. It would be consistent with her well documented resentment of the Pneuma... but I don't see how Grandpa would be connected to the dreambot, so the parallel is probably metaphorical? Unless Grandpa programmed a copy of his soul into the dreambot, but I can't think of anything that implies that... Jade suggests forcing John to wear computer lunchmuffs at ALL TIMES so that her voice can always reach him (3690)? That's the closest I can think of...

Brainghost or no, it seems clear that Grandpa's voice haunts her.

A summary of Homestuck: Acts 2-3

by someone who keeps reading it despite warnings

Part One: Jade

I'll summarise the intro to Act 3 and then delve into the two newly introduced character's stories individually. If I write any more, my gecko head will implode.

Let's start... somewhat simple.

We get a written message from John's nanna (whose ashes fused with the kernelsprite last time) in his dad's copy of the Colonel Sassacre book, saying that he's becoming wiser and can grasp the nuance of the book. There's also a lot of stuff about a prophecy, and Timeless Expanses, and Kernelsprites, etc. After that, we get the true beginning of Act 3.....

an eepy.......... This whimsical girl's name is Jade Harley (most definitely not Farmstink according to her letter). She's got quite a bit of interests, most prominently her small garden and fauna, I think.

After proving that she is the best character with her amazing flute skills and actually doing the asinine requests the audience tells her to do, she goes upstairs to her bedroom.

She plays some bass, cooks up something for her pet and then pesters her friends for a bit (she is GG, the green text chatter from earlier in the comic). This is set sometime at the beginning of the story, as she pesters John with a birthday message.

Rose pesters her about if today is the right day to play a fun game that would help "answer some questions". Jade gives some optimistic word of advice, then hops off Pesterchum and descends to the lowest floor of her house (house? observatory?).

She encounters this thing. It is hideous and I'll leave it at that.

After getting a "troll message" (I wonder if these guys will appear later?) she scampers into the grand foyer and gets herself a rifle. For being the "cutesy" character, she knows pretty well to keep herself strapped.

After an encounter with her strict robo-granddad, she goes out on her big ol' island to find her devilbeast to feed it, with no such luck yet. She notices that the birthday package from John finally arrived near the crumbling monument. But before that, she has to get past the devilbeast itself, Becquerel!!!!!

(These battle sequences are getting real elaborate, you can tell Hussie's putting a lot more effort into these)

(We also get a song composed by Andrew Huo and a complete unknown. I wonder what he'll do later?)

After a wholesome bonding moment between Jade and her favourite beast, she goes eepy yet again and Bec takes her back to the bedroom, where she begins to dream through the power of her Dreambot.

She doesn't open this package just yet, as what she does is send the package to her past self by sending it to the Wayward Vagabond in the future, who promptly gives it to Peregrine Mendicant, who promptly sends it to Jade's past self. Wibbly wobbly indeed.

Anyway, back to present Jade. She's got a whole dream city to explore!

She encounters a dream friend, who kinda looks like Peregrine? Might be.

Afterwards, Dream Jade decides to inspect the neighbouring tower, home to Dream John Egbert, who is sleeping.

She wonders if he ever ended up getting his birthday present from her, but she better get inside before the Dream eclipse occurs (is this another world entirely or just a dream hub?)

She pesters John about the gift before a large noise occurs outside her house, which she goes to investigate but Bec stops her from doing so (deeper motivation maybe?). After that, it's revealed that Jade's gift was the one in John's dad's car which was dropped off the cliff some time ago.

(this one) John then catches up Jade on everything that's happened to him thus far (meteor blowing up his neighbourhood, can't find his dad, Rose losing battery power, etc.) Jade encounters John in the Dreamworld, then they both wake up simultaneously.

She then pesters John in the real world, saying that

GG: well..... GG: its hard to explain!!!GG: but...GG: i know what it is now!GG: and now i know everythings going to be ok!!!

Apparently she's had quite a few premonitions, and this very dream suggests she needs to go to the Mystic Ruins. Harpoon in hand, she makes her way down.

She places John's present in an exact spot and writes a letter to the future WV. The present suddenly disappearifies due to what happens in the future.

Jade leapfrogs her way to the main tower of the ruins (complete with beautiful artistic rendition by Hussie) and heads inside. On page 1148, she finds a flower timer thing that is definitely related to SBURB, watches it appearify Dave's copies of the beta, and that is where her part of the story ends for now.

Asides from her being a cryptic, Jade is such a fun character to watch. Her excited reaction watching the Tangle Buddies, her rather eccentric bedroom, and the weird cyberspace she gets into while on Pesterchum are all very good examples of 'show don't tell' instead of 'this person is very weird and whimsy'. She is showing signs of knowing more than she lets on, which will be interesting to see play out later.

Anyway. Be the cool guy.

dreambot’s an obvi parallel to brobot (jake also assembled both of them though by different means) but its also interesting to note that creation of a person’s alternate self means something different in the context of jake. not that theres a brain ghost jade per say but there could be a will inside dreambot that differs ever so slightly from dream jade.

Out of all the beta kids, jade was probably my favorite to build. Abilities 1 and 3 have some serious troll potential together.

Aspect: Space (Deal extra damage after moving)

Weapon: Riflekind (10 bullets)

Primary Fire: Shoot the rifle without the scope

Alt Fire: Scope in, then primary fire to shoot

Passive: Lass Scamper (Jump towards a wall to start climbing)

Ability 1: Create a small field that turns all projectiles that move through it 90 degrees clockwise.

Ability 2: Load a special bullet into your rifle, then shoot it when you want. Bec will teleport you to where it lands.

Ability 3: Place a partial Fenestrated Plane on a wall, out of which various objects will fly, dealing damage (fridges, dreambots, cars, etc).

Ultimate: Ascend to Dog Tier, allowing you to fly and giving your bullets a small green explosion.
