insane line of thought yes BUT i think the incest would have happened if jaime/cersei were genderswapped especially because tywin’s reign of terror is so deeply psychosexual. like if they were both boys he would teach his two golden perfect sons that masculinity = dominance = sexual power and i think in such a fraught feudal r/s (twin firstborn sons) that power struggle would come out in insane lannister ways. especially since genderswapped cersei is there. and if they were both girls well. cersei is insane about women and even though the r/s wouldn’t necessarily be about jaime being her other half, i think especially with the lack of any male heir but tyrion, that would also contribute to a sexual dynamic based less on narcissism (as in canon) and more on wielding power against a younger sister. crazy to contemplate tyrion being the only son i think cersei would try to kill him for real. i do think in both of these situations it would be less of the twins Having Sex and more of a dynamic based on acceptable same-gender violence and conflict. ofc all of this is about tywins legacy of violence and abuse; they’re still raised in a house and society where their father strips them off sexual agency in gendered ways. is this coherent no but the thought experiment compelled me

this IS very coherent and I love it. I know we tend to focus a lot on cersei and jaime's personalities and narcissistic motivations (which, fair! they rly are narcissists and it's all over their relationship!!), but before they even had a notion of self, tywin was already there with his sexualized and violent lannister empire ideals. it's like you said, at the very least we can assume it would affect them in psychosexual ways regardless of gender.

I do think them being a hetero-pair was a crucial factor (bc the traumatizing gender expectations are heterosexual: marriage, procreation, dominant vs dominated etc), BUT we cannot forget that those gender expectations are inescapable and permeate everything, specially when enforced so brutally and in tywin-fashion. and I can imagine them internalizing tywin's lannister exceptionalism into incestuous behavior and playing "husband and wife" even if both were girls or boys.

also. tbh. I think they would be even more narcissistic if they were monozygotic twins. I think for female/male dizygotic twins, it's a lot about the other being the idealized version of what one can't be or do, but with monozygotic twins it's all about that person actually being you and therefore not only a better fit for you but also a more worthy creature than anyone else.

personally I voted that it would happen "either way" bc I'll never underestimate the potential of twins raised in psychosexual terror to become the most unhinged version of themselves. there's ALWAYS room to make it worse!

GENUINE question. i understand that like. ooo it’s the incest book it’s the incest show lol. but you see. and maybe i am reading too much into this. book. but i don’t think i am. but i am reading this and the subtext is definitely Incest Bad but society has made it so it’s fine for certain people in a way that’s inherently tied up with their power ie if i’m powerful enough i can do anything i want up to and including incest. so you know. it’s a thing that happens and no one in the narrative is gonna outright say it’s bad but like. you as a modern day reader should be looking at this and regardless of your personal feelings on the individual pairings (for example jaimecersei is an objectively fascinating pairing but suuuuuper fucked up - in a fun way! - both with and without the whole they’re twins thing) should be like What The Fuck. why is incest so rampant amongst the wealthy in this society. anyway. back to my question. how did this then loop back. in their multimillion dollar show. so that it honestly was just like hm. incest fine actually. and then everyone was like yup 👍 tracks for the incest show 👍 the incest show that apparently only i was watching in spite of the incest rather than because of it but apparently i’m the stupid one 👍👍👍

Calling the greens prudish for not liking incest is weird because the whole of westeros thinks that. They have just learned to put up with it cause the targaryens rule. Of course the people coming from outside of this little bubble think its weird in opposite to the targaryens who grow up learning its right, think of dany believing her whole life she would at some point marry viserys. Alicent says the targaryens have queer customs and id be totally willing to believe everyone talks in hushed tones about that away from the targaryens. And even then they still put up with it somewhat like they do not stop aegon and helaena marrying, if the greens were as prudish as black fans say wouldnt that be a priority.
