In the Heat of the Moment | Epilogue
Tumblr media
Word Count: 1.9K
Pairing: Jake Sully x Fem!Omatikaya!Reader, Neteyam x Fem!Omatikaya!Reader
Story Description: Every month female Omatikayans go through their heat whilst men go through their rut. It’s a time for mates to engage in the most animalistic desires. But when one of the two is gone, it can be a rather painstaking endeavor. With Neteyam gone on a hunting trip, (Y/N) has to go through her heat alone for the first time. Or does she?
Warnings: All of the feels
A/N: read at the end of the story 😬😬 I lied like a liar, I wrote too much and there's this short epilogue. This is the real last part that i didn't make y'all wait for 💖 also, I really tried with the songchord song but it was really hard. I took most from Neytiri's songchord. Hope you enjoy, and all constructive criticism is encouraged.

In the Heat of the Moment | Epilogue
It hurt.
That was all that (Y/N) could process.
Her baby was ready to make their journey to their earth and all she could think of was how much it hurt.
“Okay, (Y/N),” Mo’at said. “I can see the child’s head. When the next contraction starts, I’m going to need you to push with everything you’ve got.”
“I can’t,” she cried. “I can’t do it.”
“Yes, you can,” Neteyam cooed as he wiped away the sweat from her forehead and the tears from her eyes. “I know no other woman as strong as you. I know you can.”
“It hurts so much, Nete.”
“And how I wish I could take it away,” he comforted. “But I know you can do this, baby. I know you’ve got it in you.”
“One moment of pain, my child. For a lifetime of happiness.”
She wasn’t sure if she could do it. Not even with the support of everyone around her. The pain was incomparable, almost indescribable. During the months of her pregnancy, there had been some pangs here and there, some strong enough that they worried even the experienced healer. But, it was nothing like what she felt at that moment.
From the woman in the village, she had only heard only the beautiful parts of pregnancy. Creating a life inside her womb, cementing the legacy of her family, the magical moment of having the child for the first time in her arms. But none of them had told her that it would be a blood-filled battle to reach the finish line. It made her ears stick to her head and her tail swoosh hardly on the mat.
“Another contraction’s coming,” (Y/N) announced as she felt the lightning-fast pain clutch at her stomach. “Oh, Great Mother, it hurts!”
“Alright, (Y/N). I’m gonna need you to brace yourself and push,” the healer said. “We need to get the baby’s head out.”
With an ear-piercing scream, the girl grabbed hold of Neteyam’s hand and pushed as if her life depended on it. At the instruction of Mo’at, she kept pushing and pushing and pushing. She continued until she felt like she wasn’t in the tent anymore.
The only thing that brought her back was the sound of a baby’s cry.
“Congratulations, ma (Y/N),” Mo’at beamed as she placed the baby on her chest, gifting the young couple the biggest smile. “You have a beautiful and healthy baby boy.”
“Oh, he’s perfect,” the girl cried. “I can’t believe he’s finally here.”
After placing a kiss on her temple, Neteyam held out his hand to the child, the newborn instantly wrapping his little hand around his finger. “He truly is perfect,” he smiled. “As perfect as his mother.”
“Have you chosen a name yet?”
“Yes,” (Y/N) smiled. “We will be announcing it at the celebration.”
After a quick moment with the child, the delivery of the placenta, and a clean-up of the birth, the rest of the Sully family trickled into the tent – all but one. Kiri and Tuk cooed at the baby, admiring their new nephew. Lo’ak tried to remain indifferent, but soon enough gave in to the cuteness of the tiny baby. Meanwhile, Neytiri congratulated her daughter-in-law on her beautiful son, the woman’s first grandchild.
Long gone was the guilt, (Y/N) felt when she was near the woman. In the beginning, she could barely look Neytiri’s way without feeling a gut-wrenching shame for what she had done. But, with the help and support of Neteyam, she was able to put her turmoil to rest and walk alongside the woman in her pregnancy journey.
The only person they steered clear of was the same person that was not present in the room. Jake had made sure to keep his distance. He told himself that it was because he wanted to respect Neteyam’s position. But the reality was that he couldn’t bear to see (Y/N) happy with his son. That she had chosen and would continue to choose him for the rest of their lives.
His envy had been laid to rest, though, alongside his anger. Those days, all he felt was misery and sadness for a life he could’ve had. A life he was supposed to already possess. It didn’t matter how irate he had been at his son, ultimately it had been the girl’s decision, and she had always been clear about who her heart belonged to.
So, he went by pretending. Something he had learned to do perfectly when he had been human. Pretending he was content with his life, pretending his heart wasn’t shattered and unmendable, pretending he didn’t wish he was the one standing by her side. She had told him not to, but he just couldn’t help himself from praying that one day she would magically change her mind.
But, she never did.
Then, nine months had passed, her belly growing with their –his– child, and she never did. Her son and she remained as together as ever. And suddenly, the child was here and they were preparing to celebrate the new heir of the Omatikaya clan. The child that, after their father, would lead the tribe.
Everyone had gathered in the village center, eager to meet the new baby. Music and excited chatter filled the air. In a matter of minutes, a new life would be presented to the village. Another life that represented hope and prosperity for the clan.
“Are you ready, my love?” Neteyam asked his wife as they prepared to leave the tent. He was dressed in his ceremonial attire, all feathers and headdress. “You look as breathtaking as ever.”
She wore the intricate necklace Kiri had done for this special occasion, a magnificent artwork of beads and stones. Her hair had been done by Tuk just moments before, and no one would have guessed that she had just gone through an arduous labor.
“With you by my side, I am always ready.”
Silence fell across the tribe as the entrance of the tent opened. The crowd parted as Neteyam led his family, his sights set on the cleared space at the center. (Y/N) followed close behind, covering her son from sight. No one would see him until his father raised him to the skies.
As they walked, the clan started humming in prayer, blessing the new life that would now be a part of their tribe. They blessed the child’s parents and they thanked Eywa for allowing a safe delivery. It was a communal chant of love and thankfulness.
Tears welled in the corners of (Y/N)’s eyes as she felt the love of her people. Even though the baby had been created at an unfortunate moment, he was their miracle. He was the product of their love, a testament to their union.
The new family of three stopped once they reached the cleared area where Mo’at was waiting for them. She smiled at her grandson and his wife before she turned to direct herself to the rest of the tribe members.
“Brothers and sisters,” her voice boomed. “We gather here today by the grace of Eywa to welcome new life to our clan. We have surpassed great sorrows and we have been granted the blessing to see the light of a new day.
The birth of a child is a miracle given by our Great Mother. A beacon of hope in our darkest moments and a testament to her generosity in the lightest of them. Today, the Great Goddess has expanded a piece of my own family and my granddaughter-in-law has given birth to a healthy baby boy, the next heir and Olo’eyktan of the Omatikaya clan.
Now, I leave my grandson, Neteyam te Suli Tsyeyk’itan, to bestow upon us the name of his firstborn.”
The woman stood aside, joining the rest of the clan as they linked to each other with their arms, the soft hum of their shared player a beautiful melody for the moment. They were all witnessing how Neteyam took his son from (Y/N)’s arms before placing a soft kiss on her lips, their faces illuminated by their big smiles.
“Brothers and sisters, it is my greatest honor to present to you today the future Olo’eyktan of the Omatikaya clan; the fruit of the love between me and my wife, (Y/N); my firstborn, Eytukan te Suli Neteyam’itan. Named after a great man, husband, and warrior.”
The crowd broke out in cheers as Neteyam lifted little Eytukan to the sky. Mo’at and Neytiri hugged (Y/N) and thanked her for honoring their husband and father, respectively.
Once the baby was back in his mother’s arms, the girl stepped forward, her songcord hanging from her hand. Neteyam stood proudly behind her, his eyes never leaving his family. Then, she began to sing about that monumental part of her life – the birth of her firstborn child.
“Irayo [Thank you]
Oe lu nawma Sa'nokur  [I am blessed, Great Mother]
Fa nga, oeyä nìʼawve'ongokx, Eytukan. [with you, my child, Eytukan]
Atanti ngal sìlpey, [You bring hope]
Mipa skxom, mipa tìloho. [New chances, new surprise]
Lawnol a mì te'lan. [Great joy within my heart]
Lawnol a mì te'lan. [Great joy within my heart]
Ngaru irayo seiyi ayoe [We thank you]
Tonìri tìreyä, [For the nights our life]
Ngaru irayo seiyi ayoe [We thank you]
Srrìri tìreyä, [For the days of our life]
Ma Eywa, ma Eywa. [Oh Eywa, oh Eywa]
Zola'u nìprrte', ma Eytukan. [Welcome, my Eytukan]
Ngati oel munge soaine. [I bring you to the family]
Nga meuia si nawm tutan, nawm tìrey. [You honor a great man, a great life]
Nga awngeyä parul, nga mip atan. [You are our miracle, our new light]
Lawnol a mì te'lan. [Great joy within my heart]
Lawnol a mì te'lan. [Great joy within my heart]
Ngaru irayo seiyi ayoe [We thank you]
Tonìri tìreyä, [For the nights our life]
Ngaru irayo seiyi ayoe [We thank you]
Srrìri tìreyä, [For the days of our life]
Ma Eywa, ma Eywa. [Oh Eywa, oh Eywa]”
Once she finished her song and the crowd had cheered once more, Mo’at led them all through a prayer to Eywa to watch over little Eytukan. Overwhelmed by the love and the joy, (Y/N) couldn’t help but look over her people. She smiled at their closed eyes and their melodious chant, her heart swelling with pride.
Until her gaze fell onto yellow eyes that she knew too well.
Jake had stayed back in the crowd, watching as his son played the part of father better than he ever could have. He couldn’t bring himself to stand with his family, so close to the girl that held his heart hostage. And when her gaze met his, they glazed over with a mix of sadness and happiness. He was glad that she was happy, even if it wasn’t with him.
Then, she gifted him a smile that told him everything. She was grateful for this gift and she was sorry for his pain. There was no pity or disdain toward him. Her smile was an invitation. Whenever he was ready, his whole family was waiting for him.
Neteyam smiled at his wife once his grandmother had finished, calling for the food and the music to fill the air. He smiled at his son, that had not come from him, but still had his blood. He kissed Eytukan’s temple and he kissed (Y/N)’s. “I could not have asked for a more perfect family,” he beamed. ““Oel ngati kameie, (Y/N).”
“Oel ngati kameie, Neteyam,” she smiled in reply.

JAKE SULLY LOVE STORY
A/N: this is based off of the first series of the movie
Summary:
Wrenley 'Wren' Reid, a young woman who dreamed of becoming a scientist. Until she leaned that her ex-boyfriend (Jake Sully) came back to haunt her, and to fill in his brother's place.
Jake Sully, the man that Wren will forever love, comes back to her life. Jake Sully was a man Child, but he had a strong heart. A man who soon started to fall in love with a world that nobody would believe if you told them. a man who falls in love all over again for the woman he thought he'd never see again.
Part 1
Tumblr media
ALL OF my life I've worked my ass off to be here. To work for Grace Augustine, a scientist for the Avatar Program.
My best friend Tommy Sully was supposed to join me, but then I heard the news of his death. My heart broke, I couldn't imagine what Jake was going through.
Jake Sully and I had a lot of history. Sixth grade me and Tommy met, I was being bullied on the playground at school and he was there to help me. He was the only one who didn't consider me a weirdo.
Then high school came. Jake Sully had been training to join the Marines, and I found the courage to proclaim my love to him.
Jake and I went our separate ways after that. When he lost his legs he pushed me away. I tried my hardest to love him, but he wouldn't let me be with him. So I left. I took the offer of working for the Avatar program, at the age of fourteen I have been in cryo. At the age of eighteen I was already working on the program.
I'm twenty three now. It feels like a dream, everytime I come back from reality. It's like my human body isn't my real body.

"Jake Sully may not be a scientist, but I could help him. He's a fast learner, he may be an idiot but I know him." I tried to calm Grace.
She was angry, if she was in her human form her face would be a fiery red.
"How do you know?" She shouted. I look down.
"He's my ex. He's not like the other Jarheads, he's different. If his brother is the brainiac, then Jake would be the closest person for this. Trust me, you know I know the Omotacaya like the back of my hand. I could help him study. He just needs to get his head out of his ass." I was finally able to catch my breath from my speech.
"Do you still love him?" I scoffed, that's all she got from that?
"Grace." She's waiting for an answer, as I sighed.
"Yes. I do, my heart longs to be with him. But this is my job, it's more important than a high school sweetheart." I admitted.
Grace studies me, if Na'Vi's were able to blush mine would be the darkest shade of purple right now.
    "Okay." Was all she said.
I gave her a once over, I knew she was still going to freak out when she sees him.
It was getting dark as we were now in the cabins.  I continue to stare at the ceiling letting my eyes flutter closed.
"Just like that reality strikes again. Out there is everything you could ever imagine, it's like a fantasy something you'd see in books. Here, it's boring. Boring doesn't even describe it, it's more than boring, but I can't seem to find a word for boring."
I always felt awkward trying to do my video logs. I knew I looked terrible, that my skin was far too fair, and I had dark circles under my eyes. Being asleep for the day and being in another body weakens you. Grace would get worried sometimes when I'm in my human form, but I just can't help the adrenaline rush being in my Avatar.
I admired Grace Augustine, she was the type of person that doesn't take shit from anyone. She was a scientist, a woman who cares for plants more than people.
She was carefree in her Avatar body, she cared for the Omotacaya just like me. I was able to be a part of something special, something so rare that it was impossible for a sky person to do. I was accepted as one of them, and learned to be one of them. I was so close to being a part of the people, until they destroyed everything.
My heart died with the people, when they killed many Omotacaya villagers. I wasn't allowed back with the people, I lost my best friend in the process, I wasn't allowed to see her ever again because of what my kind did.
I let out a small laugh when I heard Grace.
"Who's got my God damn cigarettes?" Then I saw a young woman who rushed towards her.
She was a tough woman. People disliked her because she was rude, she was just a woman that cared more about her job than people.
I got up and walked towards Grace's link. One woman handed me a cup of coffee, I was in dire need to drink some.
"Are you ever going to realize that smoking destroys lungs?" She finishes her drag as she puffs out the smoke.
I sighed knowing that the silence was going to be a no.
I saw Max walking with Norm Spellman, Grace was impressed when she heard about him. But not so much when she heard about him.
I hadn't seen him in years. My heart fluttered in my chest as I made direct eye contact with him.
He still looked the same, except his face had matured more. He would've looked just like Tommy if he had his hair long. I noticed his eyes looking me up and down. His eyes landed back on mine once again.
"And here she is. Cinderella coming back from the ball. Grace, I'd like you to meet Norm-" Grace interrupts Max, as I look away from Jake.
I looked at Norm, he was tall, maybe around six feet. He wasn't very muscular, he was young, he looked like the type that loved to learn.
"Norm, I hear good things about you. How good is your Na'Vi?" Grace had a small smile gracing her lips(haha get it).
"May the all mother smile upon our first meeting." I was impressed. I could see that Grace herself was impressed too.
"Not bad. You sound a little formal." Norm was flustered, as he stared at Grace.
"I've studied for five years. There is still much to learn." Then Grace looks over at Jake.
"You I've heard about." She gives me a side eye as I give a sheepish smile.
"But I don't need you, I need your brother." A look of pain flashes threw Jake's eyes but quickly washed away to annoyance.
"He's dead. I know it's a big inconvenience for you." He sneered, I frowned at Jake as I wanted to say something but I knew I shouldn't, as I am no longer his girlfriend.
"How much lab training have you done? Ever run a chromatograph?" And I just knew he was going to say something stupid.
"No." Grace was starting to look more annoyed.
"Any actual lab work at all?" I looked at Jake who glanced at me.
   "Jake." I was mouthing no.
"I dissected a frog in high school." I slap my hand on my forehead.
"Moron." I wanted to slap him upside the head.
"You see? You see?" She points to Jake and then looks at me. Her eyes held anger, she was raging.
"They're pissing on us without even the courtesy of calling it rain." She was riled up.
"I'm going to Selfridge." I knew this wasn't going to end well.
"Grace, that's not a good idea." Max and I called after her.
"I'll deal with Grace." I said, running after the woman that was heading towards his office.
"Selfridge isn't going to listen. He's adamant about getting this stupid rock for money. Jake's a moron I know, trust me. But he could be a good asset." She turned to me, stopping abruptly.
"A good asset?" My lip twitched to a smile.
"A good asset at teaching us how an idiot could be?" She throws her hands in the air then runs back to find Selfridge.
I stayed behind, knowing that the conversation wouldn't end well. Selfridge and Quarich would always find a way to fuck with our program, but we're trying our best to protect it as much as we could.

Love Story || neteyam x omatikayafem!reader
cw // chilhood friends to lovers, fluff, start from childhood to adulthood, humans returned to pandora but no quaritch and his minions in sight, no use of y/n, bonus part on the end, one shot story.
¡¡¡
"What is wrong ma'ite?"
Your mother ask when she notice you're staring intently at her and to your father.
"Sa'nu do you love sempu?"
Both of your parents looks at each other soon they broke into a laughter, your mother bringing you closer to her. Her arms wrapping around you, your father's arm rest at the waist of your mother and resting his chin on your mother's head.
"Ofcourse I do ma'ite. Soon when you grow up you'll find someone you love too."
You giggle at her words and snuggle closer to the hug between your mother and father.
"Olo'eyktan Jake Sully, Neytiri te Tskaha Mo'at'ite."
Your parents greeted the leaders of your clan, you stood between the legs of your mother and father trying to hide yourself. You notice someone behind the legs of your clan leaders too, looking directly at you. The staring contest you had with that person broke when your mother introduce you.
"This is our daughter. Say hello to your elders ma'ite."
Your mother lightly push you upfront and you look up, the couple infront of you both have a smile on their lips.
"I want him! Sa'nu can I love this man?!"
You said and latch on towards the man's leg that is infront of you.
"Ma'ite! I'm so sorry olo'eyktan. Come here child!"
Your mother smiles apologetically but Jake can only laugh and when he was about to pick you up, another small pair of arms wrap around his leg
"No! My sempu is only mine! Go love someone else!"
Another child that is just around your age, maybe a one to two years older than you. You puff your cheeks and hug Jake's left leg tighter.
"I want him! Go away you narvä'"
"Who you calling ugly?! You're more uglier!"
"You look like a prolemuris!"
The child who you're bickering with gasp and tears are already pooling on his eyes. You stuck your tongue out and both of your parents can only gawk at your exchange bicker.
"Oh eywa! I'm sorry for her harsh comment Neytiri."
"It is fine. Neteyam, you should not call a woman ugly."
"She called me ugly first mother! Also, she's not a woman! She's a little girl!"
Neteyam huff and you giggled as if you just won a big argument by just having his mother on your side.
"Okay okay, kids settled down. Why don't we join the other clan members, hm? Up we go!"
Jake effortlessly lift you and Neteyam placing the both of you to his shoulders as he walk towards the big bonfire at the center. Your parents and Neytiri followed while conversing.
"Mister, I can love you right?"
You ask once again whwn Jake put you and Neteyam down, Jake laugh softly and make a mess of your nicely comb hair
"Hey! My mother spent a good time combing my hair."
"Sorry babygirl, I will and only love Neytiri. Don't worry, I know you'll be a good and strong woman when you grow up."
You pouted and cross your arms then you smiled and cling to Jake's arms
"Are you sure mister? I want to be a warrior then!"
Your mother and father who just arrive heard what you said and felt proud. You are so young but your eyes held so much determination. Neytiri put one hand on your mother's shoulder and smiled at her. Neytiri's eyes look at you then to her son and she silently chuckle. Eywa really does work in mysterious ways.
》》 [ neteyam is 14, you are 12 ]
*thwack*
A groan escape from your lips seeing how your arrow landed too far from the red dot you are aiming. You heard several chuckles behind you, turning around you place your hands on your waist
"You haven't shoot your arrow, Neteyam."
The boy before you smirk and got down on the log he was standing on together with his friends. You watch how he stretch his arms before picking up his bow and arrow.
"Don't blink syulang."
You were about to retort when he let go of his arrow and it hit the red dot. His friends cheered and Neteyam went to them smiling and doing a fist bump. He turns to you and a annoying grin is plastered on his face.
"What now? Are you going to stomp your feet like the little girl you are?"
You can feel your face heating up and push him hard before marching away and you can hear his laugh and it made you more annoyed. When you got back to the camp, you're greeted by his younger brother, Lo'ak.
"Oh Lo'ak! How I wish you are the one who is training me."
"Pfft- it's still early in the morning. Did Neteyam already annoyed you sevin.."
"Him and his friends! Argh!! I wish I can punch him straight in the face."
Lo'ak laugh and told you that his visiting the scientists lab and you immediately nodded. Being with Lo'ak is an escape from the tormenting grasp of Neteyam. Ever since he pass his iknimaya, he became more cocky towards you. Seeing a single strand of his hair is enough to make your day miserable.
"Heya Spider, Kiri!"
You greeted the two when you entered the lab, grabbing a mask you went at the side of Kiri. She greeted you with a smile before turning her attention to the avatar inside a container.
"Shouldn't you be practicing your bow skills?"
You heard Spider ask
"Fuck that! I suck at it because Neteyam sucks at teaching."
The choice of your words made Spider, Kiri and Lo'ak gawk at you before laughing, hard. You look at them with a confuse face.
"Holy! If your mother or father found out that you use such vulgar human words, they will skin you."
"Psh it don't matter if they don't find out, right?"
You sheepishly answered and now all of you are laughing, you stayed there for an hour before all of you decided to leave. You walk at the side of Lo'ak, your handd wrap around his as you both talk about your rendezvous tomorrow. He have been planning on sneaking out and going to the old shack, a place where Jake specifically told you and his kids not to go.
"Bro bro!"
Spider frantically tap Lo'ak's arm and when the boy turn around he immediately got rid of your hands wrap around his arm as if he just got burn.
"So you skip practice to slack?"
You recognize that voice that you hate down to your deepest core in you, you gathered all your strength and turn around. Greeting him with a fake smile.
"Oh hello there Neteyam!"
"Wipe that fake smile of yours."
Your rolled your eyes and cross your arms beneath your chest, you can feel his glare. Why is he mad? You should be the one who's mad!
"Glaring at me? Is that how you treat your student?"
"If that student of mine is hard headed and skips practice. Then, yes. You deserve to be glared at."
You gasp hearing his answer
"You- wasn't it enough when you shame and laugh at me together with your friends hours ago?! You're horrible!"
You shouted and walk away and Neteyam was left standing there dumbfounded. Lo'ak shrug his shoulders before walking away together with Kiri and Spider. Neteyam let out a low growl before making his way towards their family's hut.
When he got inside he saw his father and your father discussing something and the both of them stop and look towards his way.
"Back so soon? How's the training?"
"It was okay.."
His timid answer got the attention of the two adults but they just ignored it. Neteyam sat down at a corner and grab a small pouch that was place on top of his other knife. He grab the bracelet, made by you and was given to him during his 10th birthday. He smiled when he remembered how you gave it to him, you waited for him to be alone and when he was you sneak behind him and tug on his tail. After laughing at his reaction you step closer to him and slip the bracelet on to his arm.
Neteyam was smiling from ear to ear when suddenly the image of you clinging to his brother cross his mind, he immediately got irritated. He was about to place the bracelet back on the pouch when you suddenly entered their hut.
"Oh, I didn't know you guys were busy.."
You shyly said and look down, you are always hunted by the memory of you 'confessing' towards your olo'eyktan when you were just a child.
"Don't worry babygirl, me and your dad is just finishing up. What brings you here?"
You look at the side and saw Neteyam staring at you and you just rolled your eyes at his
"My mother wish for my father to be back a little bit earlier today. If it's possible..."
"Why? What happened ma'ite?"
Your dad immediately ask and you reassured him that everything is fine.
"Well, we can continue this tomorrow."
"Thank you olo'eyktan. Come now 'ite."
You nodded and followed behind your dad but before you can step out from the Sully's hut you glance at Neyeyam and his eyes are still on you, it made you feel weird so you ran towards your father.
"You look like a fool, son."
Jake stated
"What? I don't like her!"
Jake stop what he was doing and stare at his son then Neteyam just realise what he said and immediately hid his face with the use of his palm and that earn a laugh from Jake.
"Whatever you say, son."
》》
"I'm pregnant."
The mat that you were holding drop down on the floor and the meat your father is holding also drop down on the floor. None of you dared to move and your mother let out a groan
"What's with the reaction of you two?! I said I'm pregnant!"
It was your father who move first and immediately hug your mother, showering her kisses and telling how much he loves her.
"Aren't you going to hug me, ma'ite?"
You broke into a sob and immediately went to hug your mother as you cried out. You silently thank Eywa for the gift she have given your mother. Your father presented himself to be the one who'll cook and you also decided to help, you spend your dinner with your family full of love and smiles.
Soon after your mother and father decided to rest early for the night and you told them that you'll be just outside. Looking at the stars, they didn't forbid you since you have always done this since you were young.
Just right around the corner of the camp there's a small way that will lead you to the top and you'll be greeted by the shining stars that adorn the night sky. You sat down with your legs cross and your right elbow resting on your lap as you stare at the vast of the forest. You were enjoying your peace when you heard someone going up
"Haaaa what a peaceful night, I hope that person who came up here falls."
"Is that the right way to greet your superior?"
"Superior my ass.."
Neteyam softly flick your forehead and that made you hiss at him which he just laughs. You scoot away when he sat down beside you. The two of you never bothered speaking up again but Neteyam can't handle silence that much. Maybe his used on the daily bickering of his family.
"So, are you going to attend the practice tomorrow?"
You turn to him and look at him straight in the eyes
"The day you'll stop treating me like a little girl and teach me properly, maybe I will."
He can sense the irritation on your voice and he wants to get rid of it. His body act on it's own accord and reach for your cheeks
"Oh yawntutsìp, How will I teach you if you keep on missing and skipping your class?"
"Stop calling me that! Will I stay on your class when all you do is tease and make fun of me with your friends?! Ugh, you ruin my night!"
You spat and stood up as you hurriedly left the place. Your cheeks burning up when you can still the warm of his fingers against your cheeks.
Neteyam runs a hand through his hair and laid down as he stare at the sky, he wants to be at your side at all times. He knows his attitude sucks when his near you but can he help it? You make his heart beat faster that he fumbles on his word and keeps on messing up. He stared at the fingers he used to touch your cheeks and brought it closer to his lips and kisses it.
"Look at this!"
You went to where Lo'ak is and saw him pointing at something and you squealed seeing a not very large nest and there rest three ikran babies. You are on your way up to the highest part of Hallelujah Mountain, to try once again on taming a ikran.
You guys couldn't even sneak out to go towards the old shack since the momen Lo'ak woke up his father was already on his trail.
Together with Lo'ak, Kiri, Neteyam and Jake, all of you climb towards the top and you felt your stomach turning at the sight of the ikrans. You gulp down as your eyes wander around the area
"Here, let me help you kid."
You felt Jake's hands rest at your waist and help you get up. Once on your feet you were grinning but it was soon wipe from your face when you saw Neteyam looking at your way.
"Now remember, taming an ikran is not easy. You need to be patient. Understood?"
"Yes sir!"
You beam and Jake chose Lo'ak to go first, you gave him a quick kiss on the cheek and you heard someone snicker at your back, you turn around saw Kiri nudge her older brother.
"Go get your ikran bro."
Neteyam can only blurt it out as he cross his arms, it wasn't easy for Lo'ak. Seeing how this ikran before him almost bit his arm off. He got a rope on his side and slowly walk towards the side and when he did he immediately wrap the rope on the ikran's mouth and made the bond.
"Woah!!"
"Go Lo'ak!"
"You can do this boy!"
Everyone cheered for him and he kept telling the ikran to keep calm, it took him a couple of minutes to get it calm. Soon after Lo'ak instructed the ikran to fly and it did. You were practically jumping while cheering for your friend. It was Kiri's turn but all of you were dumbfounded on how the ikran she chose was calm all the way even after she did the tsaheylu.
"You are amazing Kiri!"
You beam when she landed back, her hands pat your shoulders as she smiled at you
"You can do this sister, I know you can."
Right, the three of you failed together at your first try so maybe you'll pass this one too? Unlike them, once you pass this you'll be no more a warrior-in-training. You'll become a full pledge warrior and will be helping the clan.
"Look out!"
"Huh?"
You wince when you felt a surge of pain on your stomach that almost made you stumble on your feet. Your head snapped towards the ikran who just whip you, you hiss at it and ran towards it and jump to get on it's back. Grabbing your braid you were struggling on forming the bond and when you successfully did the bond, you soothe the ikran, letting your breath go slower and when you felt it calming down, you instructed it to fly and it flew beyond the clouds.
"Woah..."
You were amaze on how pretty the sun looks, you fly around at the top of the clouds for a minute before landing back again. When you got off from your ikran, a strong pair of arms engulf you into a hug. You were about to push him off when you felt him trembling, you look at the people infront of you and all of them just silently told you to let him be.
To let Neteyam embrace you.
》》 [ timeskip ; neteyam is 19 , you are 17 ]
"Hell yeah!"
You scream when the demon ship you just struck with your bow crash, the warriors beside you also cheered as you grin flying up again to hide on the clouds. It has been years now ever since the humans are back on your planet. With your every own eyes, you saw how they destroyed your home. Now, you live at one of the mountains in Hallelujah.
"We have secured a lot of items, fallback!"
You heard Jake's voice on the intercom and you immediately redirected the flight of your ikran towards the homebase. Upon landing you were greeted by your little brother who was waiting for you to get back.
"Tsmuke!"
"Hey there!"
You beam and immediately hug him, you notice your parents standing on the side and you hug them too. Your father and mother both step down being a warrior and decided to do another task that can still help the clan.
"How is my little sister?"
You cooed while gently rubbing your hand on your mother's belly. Yes, she is pregnant once again. You even joke to your father that maybe he just step down as a warrior so he can have moments with your mother.
"You got some bruises ma'ite. Why don't you get yourself treated first?"
"Oh it's fine. It's not that deep."
You said then you heard Jake's loud voice as you turn around and saw him scolding his two sons.
"Mother, I'll just go look at the things we gathered."
Your parents nodded as you pat the head of your little brother. You may be oblivious to it but anyone can see how you care for Neteyam. Maybe it was the day where he didn't leave your side after seeing you get hurt while passing your iknimaya or maybe when he saw a man trying to win your favor. Throughout these years a silent mutual understanding can be seen on the both of you.
"The both of you are supposed to be lookout!"
"Sir I-"
"Stop. I don't want to hear your excuses. Go get yourself patch up Neteyam. For you Lo'ak, you're grounded."
You watch and listen at the sides trying to tidy the things the clan have gathered. Seeing Neteyam about to walk past you, you hurriedly put the things down and catch up to him.
"Why do you disobey his orders? You must really like getting lectured."
Neteyam groan and rolled his eyes
"Not you too. I had enough of my father's scolding, I don't need one from you."
He said coldly and brush you off, you were taken back at his actions but didn't bother walking with him anymore. You know better than to annoy or talk to a mad Neteyam. Walking back to where you were sitting down, you went over to Lo'ak who was tending to the ikrans.
"He has eyes everywhere. You better not stick close to me or this small bruises of mine will get bigger."
You scoff at his statement and help him on tending to the ikrans, you're not dumb. You know Neteyam is the reason why you don't have anyone courting you. You know how he snakes his arms around your waist whenever you guys walk past to a group of eligible men. How he rest his fingers on your thighs when the both of you are sat down next to each other during some feast.
"His grumpy. I mean, isn't it his fault? Sometimes, I don't understand him."
"You guys grew up attach to each other's hip and you still don't?"
"Time change Lo'ak. We are not kids anymore, Neteyam's mind works in a very mysterious way."
"His grumpy because his self proclaim mate were flying with some other warriors and not him."
Lo'ak whispered his answer to you and thank eywa that you didn't hear it. When the both of you were finish, you told him that you'll just go to Mo'at's hut to get treated because your wounds are starting to hurt.
When you got there you were greeted by a Neteyam who is hissing in pain and it made you laugh seeing how he is flinching away from the touches of his grandmother.
"I see you, Mo'at tsahik of our clan."
"Mhm, Kiri go and patch the girlfriend of your brother."
"What?!"
"Grandma!"
Mo'at simply hum and Kiri giggled, you sat down across Neteyam and instantly his eyes are fixated on you. You were the first one to look away and let Kiri treat your wounds. Neteyam was the first one to get done on getting treated. He left immediately that he didn't even said a another word. You sat there in silence as Kiri finishes her treat with you.
"Thank you"
You bowed slightly before exiting the hut but you were shock seeing Neteyam sitting on a box just outside. When he saw you he got up and walk towards you.
"Next time, fly with me. You'll be safer when you fly closely to me."
You arch your eyebrow and lightly get rid of his hands that is place on your shoulders
"Why should I? I am safe even if I don't fly with you. Also, I'm getting to know my soon-to-be mate."
You smirk at him before walking towards your home and Neteyam is just standing there as if he was struck by a lightning.
'Mate'? You? The woman who he watches everyday manage to found herself a man? The woman who he shoo's away the men lingering around her? You?!
He storm out of there and went towards his home, he ignored Tuk's greet, his youngest sister, if he was grumpy moments ago then his more grumpier right now. He decided to sharpen his knife, maybe he will keep sharpening till dinner.
Night came and the clan decided to have a grand feast since they have took down another base of the humans. You are currently sitting down with your friends, chatting and sharing moments on each other's life. While Neteyam, he feels his losing himself. He can't take his eyes away from you because he thinks once he do you'll be gone from his sight.
"Really?! I am very happy for you sister.."
You said towards one of your friend, knowing she'll be mated before eywa tomorrow makes you happy. The man she loves and loves her are finally presenting their self to Eywa.
"Don't worry, Tay'lin likes you. Why don't you give him a chance?"
One of your friends said, Tay'lin is also one of the best warriors. Actually, you know he likes you but everytime you want to strike a conversation with him, Neteyam always, ALWAYS, shows up.
"If Neteyam allows. I mean, he didn't even allow you expressing your love towards the olo'eyktan?"
"Hey! Stop that!"
You laugh when you were once again reminded about how silly you were during your childhood. Even now, you can't look straight at the olo'eyktan.
"But you're right. Even now, I can feel his burning gaze on the back of my head."
"Pfft- just go. We also know you want to sit next to him."
You laugh before standing up and bidding a goodbye to them. You turn towards where Neteyam is and you almost broke out into a laughter when you saw how he shove Lo'ak on the side to make a space beside him.
"What the fuck bro?!"
You heard Lo'ak burst before walking away and going towards a girl which you hunch he has a crush on.
"Hey"
You greeted and sat down beside him, his one arm instantly around your waist pulling you closer to him.
"If you keep doing that, Tay'lin won't have a chance with me."
"Good. He should know."
You smack him at the back of his head and he took away his arm but it was replace by his tail. You sigh before staring at the bonfire at the center of the camp.
"Neteyam... what are we? You act as if you don't want other men to be near me. Or do you just do all that because you still view me as a little girl who needs protection?"
Neteyam look at you widen eyes but then he immediately look away and you let out a sigh before standing up.
"Where are you going?" He ask
"Away from you. I don't need a man who doesn't speak for himself."
You said and began to walk at the back part of the camp where you have put up the hut that you made. Usually you and the others uses this as a hangout spot. Laying on the mat that was place there, you felt someone sit down behind your back.
Neteyam followed and found you laying down on the mat, he sighs as he squat down facing your back.
"Look at me"
He softly said, his fingers caressing your arm. You close your eyes and relaxes on his touch.
"I'm no idiot Neteyam. The way you touch, hold, and look at me means a lot more.."
Still not looking at him but you can feel his gaze on you, sighing you sat up and look at him straight in the eyes.
"I know we had our ups and down while growing up, we bicker a lot but we'll aways find solace to each other's presence."
You held his hand and you notice his breath hitching but you didn't pay any attention to it. You rub his knuckles and smile softly at him
"Do you remember when we were building this hut? You told me in the most meanest way you can that I can't finish this but later at night, I found you fixing the things I scewed up that in the next morning I found you sleeping inside."
"The foundation wasn't enough so I had to fix it."
You laugh remembering how he always come at day time to bother you but then when you sneak out from your home, you found him tidying it up.
"What I'm saying is somehow, we always found our self tangled to each other... I like you, Neteyam."
His eyes found yours and he saw you smiling, your smile that made your eyes shine. He purse his lips before pulling you towards him. Your head against his chest, his hands on your back rubbing it. You let yourself be immerse to his warmth but you had to pull away. His hand immediately cup your cheeks, his lips stretch into a grin
"Who knew my most annoying childhood friend likes me?" He said, teasing.
"Hmp! For all we know, you're the one who's been crushing on me. I even thought one time that I'll grow old since no one is courting me."
Neteyam laugh and showered your face with kisses and it made you giggle, he stop just above your lips and you close your eyes.
"I love you, yawne."
He whispered before letting your lips and his touch. His one hand place at the back of your neck as he use his other free hand to guide you on sitting on his lap. You can feel all the unsaid feelings througout the years spilling at every second that passes. Your fingers playing with his hair as you let out a moan when he bit your lower lip, parting your lips he slid his tongue in and you let out a sigh when his tongue get tangled with yours.
You were the first one to pull away and his kisses trail down towards your neck. Grazing his teeth on your soft flesh, he slowly pierce his fangs through your skin and it made you whine. Seeing the bite marks he grin to himself before licking it.
"Nete.."
You called out and he kiss you again on the lips, you can practically melt into his kisses. Though your kiss stop abruptly when you heard the horn, it means that the feast is coming to and end and the olo'eyktan will be saying a few words before ending the event.
"Let's join them!"
You said and stood up while tugging on his arm, Neteyam wanted to bask in your presence more but for sure his father will be looking for him. He stood up and snake his arm around your waist and kiss your cheeks as you both walk out the hut.
"Is my hair okay? How about my top?"
Neteyam chuckle and tuck in a lose strand of your hair behind your ear
"You look beautiful, syulang. If we didn't just do all those things back there and declared our love. I would think you're trying to impress my father."
The both of you are already nearing where the others and you snickered at what he said. Slipping away from his grasp and walking ahead of him you turn around while grinning.
"Maybe I am? Your father still looks good even- Neteyam!"
He didn't let you finish and carried you like how he carries his catch when hunting. He only put you down when you guys were few meters away and his father is already giving out his speech.
"You're so cute when I tease you."
Neteyam rolled his eyes in response and captured your lips for a another kiss
"And you look cuter after I always kiss you."
He wink and the both of you sneak back on to the crowd, both sitting down on the empty seat. Your head resting on his shoulders, your hands and his intertwined to each other.
"To my son, Neteyam, who'll be the next olo'eyktan!"
You pulled away when he stood up and greeted the clan. You can't help but feel proud looking at him, then he looks at you and made you stand. Blush creeping to your face knowing what he'll do.
"I have chosen my mate, the future tsahik."
He turns and look at you and even if your attention is only on him, it's hard not to notice everyone's attention are on you.
"Oel ngati kameie."
You both said at the same time and it made you laugh, the whole clan cheered and you even saw your parents clapping while your mother is tearing up. You hug him tight as he did too.
"I love you."
○ bonus part! [ neteyam is 25 and you are 23 ]
"Neteyam!!"
Your voice boom and your mate immediately went to you leaving all the weapons he has been sharpening.
"What happened? Are you all right? Do you need-"
"Shut up! Help me with this baskets."
Neteyam immediately did what he was told to, you told him to put it inside your home. You can feel yourself growing tired as you rub your round stomach. Who knew pregnancy can be this hard? You can't even hunt on your own now. Well, it's not like Neteyam will let you.
"How about you sit down, hm? I will take care of this."
"It's fine. Just put the baskets on the table. I will chop the fruits."
"No, I can chop them."
You glared at him and he pouted.
"I will chop them and your fingers if you won't let me."
"But you love my fingers..."
"NETEYAM!"
Your mate immediately exited your marui pod while laughing, you shake your head in disbelief, a smile can be seen on your lips. When you were about to begin chopping you felt something wet trickled down and your eyes went wide when you see a pool of water at your feet.
°°
Your scream can be heard throughout the camp as you use every bit of your strength, your hands gripping tightly on your mate's arm.
"Breathe, ma yawne. Breathe, follow my breathing.."
"I will really kill you after this, Neteyam!"
Neteyam wince at what you said and wipe the sweat on your forehead
"Tiyawn if you'll kill me then we can't make a another Neteyam junior."
You scream your frustation and when your head fell back again on the pillow, you heard a cry. A cry of a newborn baby. Your tired eyes darted to where the voice is coming from and Neteyam is already holding the baby, your baby, his baby.
"She looks so much like you..."
Neteyam cooed as he place the baby on your chest, you can't help but broke into a sob as you hug your baby. He felt his heart swelled at the sight of his family. He lean down to kiss you on your forehead and kiss the cheeks of the baby.
"Thank you, yawne. Thank you great mother..."
He muttered softly as he hug you and the child of you both. This is his family now, the one where he always dream of having it with you. You, him, and the childrens you guys will be raising on the future. This is everything he could ask for.

Having one mate was enough for a Na’vi, they did not need another to deal with or weigh them down. It was a huge commitment and for most, a waste of time. More than one significant other was a rare case these days anyway, usually only reserved for Na’vi of a higher ranking, like an Olo’eyktan or Tsahìk.
Jake didn’t know that the Na’vi can bond with more than one at a time until Grace brought it to his attention one day, “Na’vi will mate with only one other person for their whole life, unless duty brings them to marry another” she stated, smoking a cigarette haphazardly in the lab room, eyeing the man who sat uninterested in his wheelchair.
Mating. Jake thought it sounded primal, animalistic, something the creatures back on Earth used to do just to get a quick fuck. But when Neytiri brought it up and he finally experienced it himself, it could only be described as sublime. He’s never felt such feelings, emotions. You share them with your partner in such a deep level it left him feeling breathless.
Following their mating the skypeople attacked and cut down the Tree of Voices, severing one of their main connections to their ancestors. That’s when he realised it was time for war. Several clans joined the mighty Toruk Makto to fight for Pandora, when he called they answered. But the battle was bloody, long and gruelling, they all lost brothers and sisters that day. But at least now they will find peace in Eywa’s warm embrace.
The Great Sorrow then became something of the past and the Omaticaya were relocated to an area by Hellsgate, the humans and Na’vi finally living in harmony but not peace, a lot preferring to still shun the aliens away from their home.
But the forest provided tall trees to cover them from predators and plenty of abundance, humans will also be with their technology inside an environment they can thrive in, so each side wins. Jake had finally been anointed as Olo’eyktan with Neytiri being his tsakarem, the couple couldn’t be more happier with the way things have become, fully believing the skypeople will not return.
But happiness must soon come to an end.
Tumblr media
“Ma sa’nok! Why?! Why must we be mated to her?! She is useless!” Neytiri yelled angrily at her mother, the Tsahìk, she has just been told her mother has been seeing visions in her sleep and suspected Eywa was trying to tell her something. This ‘something’ was about her child’s third mate, which she did not anticipate.
“All of our roles play an important part here daughter” Mo’at glared, has she taught her child no less? “your new wife will be a good edition to your family and therefore the clan. It must be done, Eywa has spoken”
Neytiri did not understand, her and Jake were happy together. Alone. They did not need another person to ruin the balance of their life. She turned around sharply to her husband who was sat on the ground by the tree of souls, urging him to make an opinion on the matter with a glare. Jake coughed.
“I agree Mo’at. We are fine together just as it is”
“This is not your decision to make Jake Sully. The great mother will not be happy, she has done this for a reason and we must trust her judgement. She has shown me what will happen if this does not happen, you and your family will fall under a great despair, it will disrupt all we have made” Jake’s ears perked up, alarmed, ‘what does she mean a great despair’. As his thoughts started to turmoil Neytiri continued to talk to her mother, coming to an understanding that it was the way of life. She cannot disregard Eywa’s wishes.
With a huff she walked towards Jake and pulled him up by the arm with no effort, eyes a glare and ears pinned to her head. She walked away and towards her new ikran, ready to get back to camp. “So.. do you know who we’re supposed to mate?”
“Srane”
“Are you gonna tell me?” They flew into the air, Bob screeching as they went above the trees, staying low to the forest. Neytiri didn’t answer his question and stayed silent, shit. He was just a man, a man who knows when NOT to anger a woman, especially one like her. He decided to not take it any further.
Arriving back to Hellsgate they dismounted and landed onto the floor, Jake greeting the humans who passed by them, taking samples from the nature. Neytiri walked up to where the food was being prepared, a group of woman sat by some small children who they looked after while parents were away doing chores. She grabbed one of ladies by the arm and dragged her towards Jake who only stared in confusion. Soon morphing into realisation.
“Introduce yourself” The warrior exclaimed harshly. Knowing that Mo’at has already told her of the plans, she knew going to her daughter first would cause another war and the elder planned to avoid it. So telling the new mate first was the best option for everyone.
“___ te Syakx Hìfey’ite” the woman’s ears lowered to her head and she faced the ground. The pain in her arm where Neytiri gripped was hard, sure to bruise. “I am a gatherer, a healer. I do not hunt like you or -“ Neytiri squeezed her arm to silence her, having enough of her talking.
They were close in age, both eighteen years old and fully grown adults. They both attended Grace’s school together growing up, they were close. ___ was closer with Neytiri’s sister though, Sylwanin. When she died, the younger sister blamed everything on the other girl. Cursing her out and they never talked again until now.
___ was nervous, she knew she had to mate with them, both of them. She knew that the other woman was angry at her still, even after two years. She could not blame her for the grief of her sibling. But over something she did not do? She was not at fault here.
“Nice to meet you” Jake said curtly, not really wanting to talk any further. He did not like the idea of a second mate either, even on Earth it was extremely taboo so he felt awkward on the matter. Neytiri let go of her arm and dragged Jake off, presumably to talk about anything but the ceremony that is supposed to be held later today. Announcing the decisions their Tsahìk has made to the clan, surely they would all be most pleased. ___ could not say the same towards the couple who walked off.
One part of her thought that they just wanted to be alone for a while, being more recently mated and being thrown into another relationship was confusing and disrupting, she understood that. But the more rational part knew that while Neytiri continued to dislike her, she knew their life together would be filled with nothing but pain and suffering. But she would put on a brave face. For her own sake and the clans. Eywa has spoken.
But is what Eywa saying right?
Tumblr media
She was correct, the clan was most happy. Despite some whisperings here and there, they would have to agree that they would all make a good trio. ___ was a good healer, she was gifted with her skills. She was also good to the elderly and children, always happy with a smile on her face. Neytiri was a good huntress and a Tsahìk in training, her battle abilities are most adored on. Jake, he was their Toruk Makto, Rider of Last Shadow. He was well respected in that alone.
But while the Omaticaya was happy, she was not. Sat next to Jake on his left she was left to eat in silence as him and Neytiri conversed without her. Not even looking in her direction once. She figured that they would not talk to her all through the night and decided to make peace with herself.
A little girl tapped her shoulder and ___ turned around to face one of the children she often looked after, Sray. “You are going to be mated to them?” she looked at her Olo’eyktan and his wife, yellow eyes wide.
___ nodded and forced a smile on her face “Yes, Sray. I will be” she stated softly, not comfortable with saying the revelation out loud.
Suddenly Sray sniffed, doe eyes watering “does that mean you will not have time for us anymore? Please sa’nu! I do not want you to leave!” the sweet girl jumped in the adults arms and clung to her chest, fearing that if she let go, ___ will disappear.
“Ma ‘evi, I will always have time for you and everyone else, just because I will be mated, does not mean I will not see you ever again” ___ kissed Sray’s head, wiping her little tears and grinning. Bringing comfort to the girl, Sray smiled back, still sniffling.
“LeNa’vi! Fìtxon awnga fpe’ pxefo mìso!” the people cheered, raising their drinks and whooping. The three will be mated under the tree of souls, to legitimise the union.
Jake and Neytiri looked at each other, worry in the man’s and anger in the woman’s. They did not want to do anything with her, but would have to make it look like they had, they were not stupid. If they did not do this then the people will become angry, it would be a disgrace. Only the great mother shall know.
Standing up, Jake held his large hand out to his wife who took it. Letting go and walking towards the direction of the tree, they would not take the ikran, but rather run through the night. Jake then turned to look at ___ who still sat with Sray in her warm arms, he nodded his head to the direction Neytiri went and followed her.
A little hurt that he did not offer his hand to her, ___ kissed Sray’s forehead and stood up, walking after them. As they got deeper into the forest they began to run, ___ tried her best to catch up but the two were hunters, they were more used to navigating the thickness of the fauna better than her.
“W-Wait!” she called in English, but the two ignored her and ran further ahead of her. ___’s ears slicked back and she huffed to herself, heart beating erratically with annoyance.
At some point the jungle got too thick for her to get through and she paused, the two she was following nowhere in sight. She twisted around, straining her ears to hear any calls or footsteps to help guide her. But to no avail, she lost them. Meaning she herself did not know where she was, this part of the forest was so much further out from the old hometree, a part she has not navigated before.
Her breathing started to speed up, panicking. Did they leave her? Alone? Here? She knew they did not like her, but this was too much. It was past eclipse and night, anything could come to kill her.
A rough hand grabbed her arm, the same one Neytiri held earlier that day and turned her around. An angry Jake stood there with brows furrowed, fangs bared. “Why did you stop?” he growled, ears slicked back “you were supposed to follow, not stop and sightsee like a lunatic!”
She did not know what that word meant, but by his tone it was something mean. Her own ears pressed against her head and her tail tucked between her legs, she yelped as she was harshly dragged through the forest, Jake never letting go of her arm even as they got to the tree of souls.
He let go and stood next to Neytiri who had her queue attacked to one of the hanging branches, tendrils letting go and she broke the bond. Turning to see ___ with a hand on her arm, the bruises were darker than before, the sting aching the area and making her hesitant to move it.
The warrior glared at her and snarled “you will have a baby put in you, as it is the way. But we are not bonding. Never. You will deal with that shame” she barked in Jake’s native tongue, her words were harsh and the prospect of not bonding with the only people she could was demeaning, it brought water to her yellow eyes. This was low, a baby without a bond was seen as disgrace. She would bring great shame to Na’vi.
“Neytiri-“
“Kem si ke plltxe kurkung!” ___ closed her mouth, she did not want to anger Neytiri further than she has. Jake, who stood watching the ordeal, strolled towards ___ and pushed her down onto the ground, pulling her loincloth to the side and doing the same to his.
“Pey! Oe kawkrr-“ her words were again cut off as pain filled her lower abdomen, he entered her. It was her first time and he just did it so fast without considering her feelings. Tears streamed down her soft cheeks, pained noises leaving her mouth as Jake started to move. He manhandled her onto her stomach, pressing his hand to her lower back above her tail bone, if the pain at her core wasn’t enough then the sensitive space on her back was.
Neytiri simply watched as her glare burned holes into the girl beneath her, the person that ruined her life. That took her sister away from her, took everything. She was not going to welcome this destroyer into her family, never. She’ll make sure ___ and her children will be shamed, if not by the people then by her own kids and husband.
___ felt something warm release inside of her, oozing out of her hole. She felt Jake lift off of her and heard him step towards his mate, both of them softly talking to one another while ___ was left to curl up, sobbing quietly. The man that was supposed to care for her, supposed to love her, took her dignity and now her first child.
Her heart squeezed in her chest as she could only imagine the future to come.

Tumblr media
The battle against the RDA took an emotional and physical toll on you in more ways than one. You tended to everyone's wounds with Ronal within the next few days, aiding her in anyway you can for your clan assisting the Tsahìk. You also couldn't help but watch Neteyam like a hawk, practically never letting him out of your sight. You were nervous for him after his near fatal incident, although he kept insisting he was more than capable of his duties with eye rolls and constant reminders. The Tulkun liquid healed his wounds completely, leaving but a faint scar on his chest, serving as a reminder of his brush with death.
Jake and you were able to spend your evenings with your family over dinner, without the impending fear of war. But you could see Jake visibly struggling with coming to terms that Quaritch was indeed dead, for good this time. You understood his guilt, fear, and post traumatic stress over the events of your time here. You did your best as his mate to calm him when he would wake up in the middle of the night writhing and screaming in agony covered in sweat. You would hastily attach your kurus making Tsaheylu, taking his pain, his anguish, his guilt and lessening it for him. He could sense your worry for him, although on nights like this, he was grateful for a mate who saw his most raw moments clinging to sanity with a thin thread, heaving with anxiety fighting the pain.
Your day has started out calm, the days since the battle, provided a blanket of somber serenity like a tidal wave. The thick of the worry now finally disappearing into the horizon, you feel as if you can breathe again. You nuzzle into your mate’s neck, inhaling his delicious scent feeling the warmth of his skin radiate onto yours enveloping you in. Your ears perk up to the gentle sounds of waves hitting the shore, and the soft clicking of ilus rising with the morning. As the fishermen ready to set out to hunt, you feel Jake’s arm caress your back gingerly. You smile into him, as he brings you in closer to his chest. “Good morning my sweet girl.” He whispers into your hair. You raise your head to find him already gazing to you lovingly, “Good morning Jake.” You reply with equal vigor. He brings his lips to yours, softly caressing each other in a tender kiss. Most mornings start like this now, appreciating the small moments of intimacy you have with your husband. You hear a quiet yawn from behind you, slowly breaking the kiss turning back to find Tuk waking up from her sleep. The little Sully rubs her sleep ridden eyes and looks to you and Jake. She groggily gets up, and makes her way over to you two laying on your mats, and crawls in-between your warm bodies. Recently, Tuk has been needing more attention following the traumatic events with the RDA, all of the kids did. You and Jake made sure to give each of them equal attention and care as best you could as parents. Tuk wraps her small arms around your neck as you rub her back, “Did you sleep well little one?” She just replies with a sleepy “Mhm.” Causing Jake to laugh. He won’t lie, in recent months seeing you with Tuk and his children had him longing for more members to add to the family. The gentle nature you carried with Tuk and Lo’ak, Kiri, and Neteyam warmed his heart. And that’s what Jake loved most about you.
Jake sits up, to get breakfast started as Neteyam begins to rise with the morning sun peaking through your marui. You turn to him with a small smile, as he yawns a big sleepy yawn with fangs poking out and stretching his slumber ridden limbs. He looks to where you lay with Tuk’s head in the crook of your neck holding her as she sleeps. He smiles at his little sister, and the sight of you caring for her so deeply, as he smells the banana wrapped leaves begin to smoke. Jake flips the food over a few times for good measure, as Lo’ak and Kiri begin to wake from the aroma of breakfast breaking their sleep. You bring yourself to a sitting position with Tuk still asleep, as you gently wake her, “Tuk Tuk, it’s time for breakfast. Come on, I bet you’re hungry. Dad made your favorite.” You see her ears begin to twitch at your words, slowly opening her big eyes and waking from her sleep. She silently moves from your warm body, and over to where the rest are sitting with breakfast filling their tummies. Jake looks over to you, as you make your way to join them. “Here hun.” He passes two leaves, one for you and Tuk, as you hand one to the youngest. “Thank you.” You reply. You begin to eat your food, slowly chewing the warm filling of the leaves, as the aroma of smoked vegetables and meat hit your nose with an unfamiliar smell. Disgust suddenly fills your face, as your stomach lurches at the scent. You quickly bring your hand to your mouth, fighting sudden nausea. What the hell is happening to me? You swiftly think to yourself. Jake immediately notices the quick change in your demeanor, scanning your body for any signs of illness, as you hastily rise, and dismiss yourself. You run out of the family tent, and bring yourself over to the edge of the marui, and heave up the little food you have in your stomach. Jake following suit, sees your body vomiting the breakfast into the water as he makes his way behind you to make sure you’re alright. “Tani, hey. What is it?” With a hand to the back of your neck, you wipe the vomit from your lips breathing heavily. Your head begins to rush, and your vision goes slightly blurry, as you try to stand. Your knees buckle slightly, as Jake catches you wobbly form. “Whoah, hey! Hey sweetheart I gotcha.” He says holding onto you. “Oh Jake, I do not feel so well. I’m sorry. I think I’m experiencing a panic attack. I have been getting them frequently since the battle.” He brings his hands to cup your face gently, understanding what the two of you have been put through is no easy feat by any means. “It’s okay sweet girl I understand. But why don’t you go see Ronal today, just in case you’re coming down with something okay? Can you do that for me?” He asks with concern laced in his words. You truly don’t know what’s come over you, now with worry flowing through your own veins, you meet his gaze and nod. If anyone would know what’s come over you, it’s your Tsahìk.
After your family finishes the rest of their meal, you are walked to the Tsahìk’s tent with Jake, who insisted to go with you. You laugh at his worry, although you can’t blame him so you don’t fight it. You enter Ronal’s tent flipping up the privacy flap as your eyes scan to her and Tonowari weaving baskets together. Their children must be out in the water with your kids already, you observe. Her eyes whip up to where you and Jake stand, her big belly now swollen in the last trimester of her pregnancy as she struggles to stand up to meet you. “Tani what can I help you with?” Suddenly a lump in your throat begins to form, as the embarrassment hits your cheeks with flush. A mighty warrior like you, taken down by a small fever how laughable you think. “I fell ill this morning around breakfast time, I couldn’t even keep my food down. I fear I may be coming down with something.” You say quietly, as Jake rubs his hand on the back of your neck. Ronal lightly nods, and motions for you to sit on the mat with Jake, as Tonowari rises to give you privacy. “I will see you.” He says to you both, nodding and making his exit. Ronal does a quick scan of your body, taking in your form. She notices your cheeks flushed with a plump new color than previous, your bioluminescence slightly brighter, your hair shines more in the light. She knows what you’ve come down with before she even gets her tools out, but still she must get her confirmation. “Lay down on your back Tani, I will see to your illness.” Your ears don’t miss the way she stresses that last word.
She brings a basket to the side of you, raising a wooden tool to your skin as she rolls you over to your side. The cool contrast of the wood to your skin causes a shiver to rip down your spine, as she lightly taps each vertebrae. Once done, she rolls you onto your back again, as Jake examines everything with wide eyes. She brings her hands to press down onto your abdomen a little rough, causing you to wince. She moves her hands side to side, pressing against your womb and bladder as you hear click her tongue. “You are pregnant.” She states calmly. A gasp escapes yours and Jake’s mouths simultaneously. You quickly rise, in a sitting position staring wide eyed at your Tsahìk. “Are you sure?” You ask in a hushed voice. Ronal just chuckles to you, “Of course I am. I am your Tsahìk. You’re about 3 months along. You aren’t showing just yet. But you are indeed pregnant. With a girl.” You whip your head to face Jake, with tears forming in your eyes. “A baby girl?” He looks to you glossy eyed as well. You bring your hand to your mouth as a small giggle escapes. “A girl?” You repeat. Ronal watches your interaction intently, rising to give the two of you privacy. “Oh Jake! Eywa has blessed us with a gift.” Your glossy eyes meet one another, eyes crinkling with pure joy, the butterflies filling your belly with fluttering motions like the ones you felt on your wedding night. He brings his large hand over to your belly, lightly caressing the skin. “I can’t believe it. You have no idea how happy I am sweetheart.” You bring your lips to meet his in a sweet and tender kiss, filled with love and admiration, as you sniffle from happy tears. You bring your foreheads to one another, relishing in the joy of this news with only light and delight filling your hearts.
Breaking the news to your family was something you and Jake would never forget. The beginning of new life residing inside you caused your children to light up with instantaneous glee. A new sibling, a new chapter to your lives. Tuk being the happiest that she would no longer be the youngest Sully, and Kiri grateful it’s a girl to add to outnumber the boys. Lo’ak stared in awe of you, then slight disgust over the fact that he knew how babies get made. Neteyam and you finally reaching a comfortable kinship with your bond, was now ecstatic to have a new member of the family. You and Jake began making a bassinet as soon possible, both too excited to wait. Over the course of your pregnancy, Ronal gave birth to her own child. A baby boy, named Akairu. Rambunctious and filled with vigor like his parents, you would routinely visit her marui to observe motherhood close up, from everything to breastfeeding, nap routines, and how to wrap a small loincloth. Your eyes never ceasing to fill with wonder over the maternal instincts your friend possessed. Seeing how she interacted with new life, filled your heart with your own excitement, anticipating your own young as your belly grew with new life.
Tumblr media
Many eclipses go by, as you reach the end of your pregnancy, your belly hard and swollen making it harder and harder for you to perform your every day tasks. Because of this, Jake assists you in anyway he can, making sure you’re as comfortable as possible like the caring mate his is. Neteyam and Lo’ak had completed their Metkayina Iknimaya’s and were ready to adorn their first tattoos as reef men. Neteyam previously completed his passage into adulthood back in the forest, knew that he was allowed to choose a mate if he so desired. Lo’ak knew that he would be with Tsireya, and Neteyam had met a kind girl who came from jewelry crafters. Both you and Jake okayed the boys’ choices, blessing them with your approval.
Today you wobbled your way through the forest to gather some fruit from the melon tree in the mangroves, carrying your empty basket alongside Tuk. You enjoyed the smaller tasks as a clan member, as you reached the end of your pregnancy. You may not be able to go hunting and training like you used to, but spending time with your little ones, and taking it easy allowed for your body and mind to calm, for you and the baby. Your demeanor in the last few months was incredible considering you thought you would be frustrated and irritable due to hormones, but it was the complete opposite. You seemed to glow, carrying impending motherhood with grace and poise. You and Tuk reach the destination, and set the baskets down, as you ready your tools to grab hold of the fruit, slowly the baskets fill with weight as you’re satisfied with the harvest. “Alright that looks good Tuk, how about one for the way back huh?” She looks to you as you toss a melon her way, eyes lighting up with joy. You craved nothing but sweet things during your pregnancy, as your teeth pop the skin of the plump fruit. The juices overflow your senses, as the liquid drips down your chin. The two of you make your way back to the marui, setting the baskets down, as you feel a pinching sensation in your back. “Agh!” You squeal in surprise. Tuk whips her head to you, as your brows furrow with pain. “Mama what is it?” You start to feel intense cramping, when suddenly a giant pop and splash hit the ground of your tent. Your eyes widen with fear as you realize your water has just broke. Tuk gasps, and runs to you. “Mama what is that?!” You bring you fingers to your neck comm, with your birthing plan officially early. “Ma’Jake.” Your voice cracks to life in his neck, as he finishes his hunt with Tonowari and the boys. “Tani, sweetheart what is it?” He inquires. “My water has broke. We must prepare for the baby.” You explain as calmly as possible. His stomach drops with panic, but quickly takes a deep breath to calm his senses. “Okay, just hang tight the boys and I will be there in a few minutes.”
You and Tuk page for Kiri to come in from free dive training, as she quickly pops into the tent. “Oh Tani, let me help!” As she takes the items from your hands into a woven bag for you. You prepared for your baby girl’s arrival as much as possible, but now with the birth looming quickly, your senses have been dialed to 100. You allow Kiri to help pack anything you would need, preparing to make haste to the Tsahìk’s tent. As a member of the Metkayina now, you have been preparing for a traditional water birth. The private pools of the mangrove forest have a special area reserved for family births, with a small hand crafted tent most families would nest in for the next few days. Jake suddenly enters the family home, with Neteyam and Lo’ak following suit. “Hey I’m here. You feel okay?” As he brings his hands to cup your face, another contraction rips through your body, causing a loud cry. “Ah!” You hold your belly tightly, as Jake does your breathing exercises with you. “Okay, two quick ones in and out. Good girl.” You feel him rub small circles your neck. “Neteyam boy, can you get the pack please.” He motions to the family pack of food, water, cloths, clothing and everything you’ll need in the next few days as you embark on the journey together as a family post birth. Jake hoists you up bridal style as you make way to Ronal’s tent. Kiri opens the flap for you to enter, as Ronal expects you and your family. She has you lay down on the mat, while readying her tools. A small sheen of sweat coats your skin as you feel another contraction hit you, this time the biggest one yet. You scream in agony, as Jake offers his hand for you to squeeze. The Sully siblings gather around anxiously watching as Ronal takes her tool to inspect how dilated your cervix is, after gently removing your loincloth. “You’re halfway there Tani. Drink this tea, it’ll help with the pain. Let us make way to the forest for your birth.” Her words ringing in your ear, as Tuk bends down to guide the tea to your lips. “Thank you Tuk.” Your voice shakes with pain.
You all follow Ronal and Tonowari through the forest as the pain subsides. She insists you walk to help speed up the process, as you hold hands with Jake steadying your steps. The lush jungle comes into your sight, as you approach the hot spring and tent. Neteyam and Lo’ak begin to unpack everything and settle into the tent as Kiri and Tuk assist Ronal with her birthing tools. She begins to rub a salve onto your back and lower spine, helping the pinching immensely. You coo into your mate, as the relief floods your senses only to find he’s connected your kurus to help. You gaze into him with appreciation knowing, that he’s desperate to help take your pain away, as much as you are to rid of it and finally hold your baby girl. Ronal steps into the hot spring adorned in her Tsahìk garments for the special day, as Tonowari stands next to her. It is custom for the Tsahìk and Olo’eyktan to perform the Metkayina birthing rites welcoming new life into the clan, as immediate family joins. “Jake help remove her clothes, she is ready to begin pushing.” Her words solidify your wonder, as you feel the contractions take hold of your body. Jake and you untie the strings to your garments, as they fall to the ground. He guides you into the water, with immediate relief flooding your senses as the warmth of the hot spring caresses your skin. The kids closely behind you, enter the water as well witnessing you prepare for the birth.
With the water only up to your waist, you bring your head back to Jake’s chest as he coos into your ear, “Shh, you’re okay baby. Just try to relax okay?” You nod your head as Ronal makes her way to you. She grabs both your hands, caressing them softly, as you begin to feel your body’s natural urge to push. “Tani, it is time. Begin to push girl. Take a deep breath for me.” She instructs, as your body begins to contract bursting with pain. “Agh!” You scream into the air. Lo’ak and Neteyam stare wide eyed as you screech in agony, while Tuk and Kiri stand close by with cloths to wipe the baby down. You lean back into Jake as you’re put into a laying position, floating in the water. Ronal spreads your thighs apart, as you begin to push again. This time, you feel your baby’s head begin to exit your body. “She is crowning. I see her head, one last push girl! This is it!” She exclaims sternly. Jake feels the pain of your contractions, the intensity ripping through his own body through the bond, as he tries to comfort your body through birth. You suck in one more deep breath, pushing as hard as you possibly can. “Agh!” You scream into the air, you feel as if you’re being torn in half, your vision begins to spot when you suddenly hear a small wail. “She’s here!” Ronal shouts. She begins to guide your baby from your body, as your child squirms to the surface gasping her first breath of life. “A girl!” She shouts, lifting your child into the air. Jake coos into your neck, “Look! Look sweetheart you did it! She’s here!” He brings your tired face to the sky where your child is thrust. “I did it.” You say with exhaustion. Ronal brings your baby to your chest, skin to skin as you feel her searching for your milk. You guide her gummy mouth, to your nipple, as you feel a sudden latch pinch your skin. Kiri and Tuk both crying, make their way to you drying off their sister from the embryonic fluid. Lo’ak and Neteyam stand in awe as Jake beckons them to meet their sibling. “Boys say hi to your baby sister.” He says choking on his tears. They wade through the water, to your side as they look to their sister suckling hungrily on your nipple. Neteyam giggles at the sight, as Lo’ak cries softly. With your family surrounding you, you feel nothing but complete bliss. “It is time for Tsaheylu, Tani.” Your leader speaks softly. Ronal swims to your side, detaching Jake’s kuru from yours, and connecting it slowly to your baby’s. The rush of endorphins flooding your senses is nothing you’ve ever experienced before. Not even with your own mate. No this, this is much deeper. All of the atoms in your body relishing in the contact you’ve made with your child. The life you created inside, nourishing her and bringing her life. This is Eywa’s blessing. The synapses in your brain firing one thousand miles a minute, the beat of your heart syncing to your child’s, your breath, even the blood pumping through your veins. You would do anything for her.
You begin to sob, feeling the effects of birth and the bond, as Jake brings his hands to caress your braids. “Shhh. It’s okay Tani. You did it. I’m so proud of you. You brought new life to our family.” He coos into your ear. You crank your neck to look to him gazing at you lovingly, as you weakly beckon the children to come closer. “This is your new sister, Zuleika te Suli Tani’ite.” You say with pure adoration. You and Jake had picked a name months ago, having gone through a list of ones you thought sounded nice. But Zuleika just seemed to stand out most, her name meaning ‘gift from above.’ Ronal and Tonowari stand proudly, as they hear your announcement chanting her birth rites as member of the Metkayina. “Great Mother, we welcome Zuleika te Suli Tani’ite as member of the Metkayina. The way of water has no beginning and no end. The sea is around you and in you. The sea is your home before your birth and after your death. The sea gives, and the sea takes. Water connects all things- life to death and darkness to light. We give thanks.” You and your family chant after, “We give thanks.” You close your eyes in bliss, feeling the love you have from your husband, your family, your daughter. You give thanks to the Great Mother and her gift to you.

I want you to know, I’m a mirrorball I’ll show you every version of yourself tonight
It was excruciating, the pain. It was never-ending, never relenting, it was enough to warrant the current position you found yourself in, curled up on your bed, knees brought close to your chest, hands grasping at your worn-down pyjamas, that much like everything else in this room, smelled like him, felt like him, was imbued with his presence and the memories he’s left that you’d never be able to forgive or forsake. Glossed-over eyes moved slowly through your room, at all the little trinkets you now had that you didn’t just a few months, all of them sharp and painful as they felt like they were digging painfully in you, leaving cuts and bruises in your already broken heart. Eventually, your gaze settled on a feather you were given the first day in your Avatar body, and it was an appropriate place to stop, as this was when it all began - this whole mess, that you were still debating whether it was worth it, worth all this, but which, at the time, was a pure and innocent new start, in a new body, in a new life.
I'll get you out on the floor Shimmering beautiful And when I break it's in a million pieces
“Come on, honey, it’s late already. You know life in the village starts early.”
The dragging of your feet did very little to make you appear more enthusiastic than you were feeling currently, and Norm sighed as he took it your deflated predisposition. It should be a happy time. You knew that. How many people can say that got a new chance, at a new life, on this planet that felt weirdly in between a home and a prison? A new chance to belong - the first one, actually. A chance to thrive and to experience this world the way it was meant to be experienced, the way that the natives experienced it. And yet, a few weeks in, you still felt like a complete stranger in a body you couldn’t recognise, in a culture that has never been your own, in a village that has never accepted you, that never ceased to look at you and see through you, right to the flimsy core of insecurities and self-doubts that plagued you constantly, that followed you everywhere you went, like a shadow in a dimly-lit room.
You looked across the room where the other neuro-link pod was being prepped, and next to it stood the only other young, human, adult on Pandora - your brother for all intents and purposes, the boy who you loved always, but hated in the moment, as you watched his lively and animated body language, practically beaming with anticipation. Spider, unlike you, settled in his new taller, bluer, shinier body almost immediately - a born acrobat, a made warrior, even before the Avatars were complete. He had no such compulsions, no shame or guilt, no embarrassment or anxiety, no feelings of inadequacy or imposter syndrome, just a pure, unadulterated joie de vivre and unquenchable fear of missing out. He got everything he’s ever wanted with that Avatar, and unlike you, he didn’t seem willing to squander the opportunity. You knew you should be more like him, and you were trying. The effort just wasn’t enough to overthrow the paralysing fear you felt every time you stepped foot in that village. You wondered if it ever will.
“Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go!” With a sigh and a roll of your eyes, doing your very best to ignore the racket coming from just a few pods over, you allowed Norm to close the lid on top of your caged body, doing your very best to clear your head of the screaming voice that got louder by the second, the harder you tried. You’ll never make it. You will never be one of the people.
Hush When no one is around, my dear You'll find me on my tallest tiptoes Spinning in my highest heels, love Shining just for you
Life in the village did indeed start early, and while you walked away from Hell’s Gate and through the thick forest that surrounded you, you could already hear faint sounds coming from the general direction of the Omaticaya settlement, a dead giveaway people were preparing for what the day would inevitably bring, from training in the healing practices of the Tsa’hik or the warrior skills of the tsamsiyu, it was the relentless will to improve and contribute to the overall wellness of each other and their planet that fuelled Na’vi every day.
Soon enough, the carefully crafted tents came into view, each one unique to the owner, with pieces of bone or hides that gave it a personal, intimate appeal, and it was easy enough, once you knew the people, to be able to tell who each tent belonged to. You smiled as your eyes fixed on one tent in particular, small and understated, despite who it was inhabiting it - Neteyam, future Olo’eyktan, never found any use for unnecessary embellishments, be it on his person or any of his belongings, always preferring to keep the showing off to the actual battle or training, his impressive skill set and his ability to thrive in every challenge his brightest adornment. When he came out of it, like he could sense you were near, your smile widened taking him in, in all his tall, blue, muscular beauty. He was a handsome young man, the perfect mix between Neytiri and… him. He used to look more like his mother when he was younger, but now, all of 23 years old, he was more and more Jake with each passing day, and the thought both intrigued and scared you, almost in equal parts.
It intrigued you because, well… because there was something special about Jake, there always has been. Not just because he was the first and only human to do the consciousness transfer, to be accepted into the clan, to become one of the people, or that he was Toruk Makto, one of only 6 to have ever existed; not because he was Olo’eyktan, and a revered warrior and leader… but because he was him. He was kind and patient, he was sweet and caring, he was funny and fun… he was everything.
On the other hand, it was for the exact same reasons that Neteyam’s resemblance to his dad scared you. Because every time you looked at him, you saw Jake, and the feelings you harboured for him since you were old enough to pay attention, that dwindled in time, were mingled with the deep familial affection you felt for Neteyam, who has been your best friend since you were old enough to... well, have memories. You didn’t want your relationship with him to be marred by feelings you couldn’t, wouldn’t ever feel for him, you didn’t want your history erased by the possibility of more, not when it would be wrong - not when, at your core, you would just settle for him because you couldn’t get the person you really wanted.
“Oi! A little late for the mighty warrior to be coming out of his tent, isn’t it?”
Neteyam snickered as he noticed you and Spider approaching, and shook his hand in Spider’s direction.
“Why is she this mean only to me?”
Spider shrugged and patted Neteyam on the shoulder simpathetically.
“Girls, man… Am I right? Anyway, going to find Lo’ak and Kiri. See you guys on the training grounds.”
Hush I know they said the end is near But I'm still on my tallest tiptoes Spinning in my highest heels, love Shining just for you
As Spider took his leave, almost skipping to the Tsa’hik’s tent, where he knew Kiri would be, you started walking quietly, anxiety rising in your chest with each step taken towards the grounds, where you’d once again, as you have for the past few weeks, prove to yourself and everyone around you that you weren’t made for this - the fighting, the battles, the wielding of death machines, be it a gun or a bow, none of it was yours to take, yours to concur. You were made for the labs, for the quiet, analytical lifestyle. You were made for wielding a guitar, and playing it until the strings broke, you were made for daydreams and illusions and fantasies you could only fathom yourself part of, for a happier, easier world that would allow you to be all of those things without incursions. Alas, the world was not what you envisioned for yourself when you were younger, and with this great opportunity, came sacrifices you hoped time would lessen and sweeten, and turn them into blessings in disguise.
“Are you ready for today?”
“Does that make a difference?”
Neteyam’s sigh was answer enough for you. He tried to help, he really did. He went above and beyond for you and you were grateful. He was a patient teacher and a great friend, and his determination, as always, came at a cost, the cost of another burden he had to carry, another person he had to parent and take care of, and while it was not lost on you, it didn’t matter. None of it mattered.
“You’re going to be okay. You just have to give yourself time to grow. You can’t compare yourself with Spider, who’s been in the village with us his whole life. It’s going to take you time and effort, but you can do this, Tawte. And I’ll be here, at every step, ready to catch you if you fall.”
You smiled a little, slightly distracted, as you always were, by his sweet nickname, and your thoughts flowed gently at the memories that stirred in you whenever he said it, at the way the first word he ever uttered as a babe was a slurred version of a word he heard all the time from his mother: tawtute... human. From her mouth, it was laced with poison and disdain, but not from Neteyam's, who loved you, ever since you were young, who accepted you for who you were. Tawte was a gentle reminder of how far you've come, and how the familial love between the two of you hasn't faltered through time, but only blossomed and deepened, much to your eternal gratitude.
And they called off the circus, burned the disco down When they sent home the horses and the rodeo clowns I'm still on that tightrope I'm still trying everything to get you laughing at me
Your eyes, hidden behind a sea of glossy tears settled on the next item, the broken tip of an arrow, that you kept since that day, when you somehow did so poorly in bow practice, you managed to break an incredibly sturdy arrow, much to Spider and Lo'ak's amusement, and much to your deep dismay. You thought how about your feelings of inadequacy were exacerbated by the Olo'eyktan's watchful eyes, who observed you intently the whole time, and how that inadvertently set everyone's gaze on you. So many eyes - watching, judging...fearful; so many words - whispered and snickered, and it hurt. It all hurt. But then... he changed everything, not just in that moment, so far removed from you now, but for the rest of your life, with just a few simple words.
“What?” the shock couldn't be shaken off your face, no matter how hard you tried. You knew you needed to get a grip of your emotions, but that was always easier said than done for a girl who was aptly described her whole life as "wearing her heart on her sleeve".
“Ouch, kid. You’re hurting my feelings. I would have liked to think anyone would be honoured to be personally trained by the Olo’eyktan, but I think I’ve been humbled.”
“No, Jake… of-of course I am, I just think… your efforts are better spent on someone else, someone… who’s worthy of it.”
It was minuscule, the change, but it was there - his eyes, his smile had an edge to them, that wasn't there before. He wasn't happy with your words, and yet, he remained calm and maintained the easy, outgoing, friendly nature of his tone.
“How about you let me decide what my efforts are better spent on, kid?”
That was enough to shut you up, but when he noticed the purple tinge in your cheeks, and the way your gaze dropped in shame, his expression softened. He brought a hand to your face, his thumb grazing your chin so that you'd look up at him, and you hoped the shudder that tried you went unnoticed to him, and to the rest of the clan.
“Here’s the deal. I think part of the reason you are having such a hard time is because you’re here, in this village you’ve never truly been a part of, with so many watchful eyes on you. You feel the pressure of performing well in front of the people, in front of my kids… in front of Spider. You shouldn’t have to do that. So, my solution is simple: you and I go for a few days’ hunt. I will teach you the basics, like I learnt when I first joined the Omaticaya. This way you get to relax a little, get to remove yourself from this place for a while and enjoy the beauty of Pandora, and who knows, kid? Maybe you'll find it's easier to be a part of us than you ever could have imagined. What do you say, mm?"
I'm still a believer but I don't know why I've never been a natural All I do is try, try, try
How could you have said no to such an offer? Even now, with all this hindsight, standing on the edge of a cliff with so much room beneath you to fall, with one foot on the ledge and the other on a banana fruit peel, able to look at the situation from a vantage point you only got with all the months of history you've amassed, even now... you still would say yes. Because no matter the pain and the hurt that now seeped into you like rain through the cracks in the withered, dry ground, soaking into every facet of it... just like the rain, his presence and memory also gave you life, a purpose, a way to go on. And you wouldn't give that up, not while there was still breath in your lungs.
So you said yes. And you left, that same day, on the back on his beautiful ikran, for a long ride that would take you somewhere deep in lands you've never experienced before, away from whispers and prying eyes, away from the doubt and the fear. As you were flying far above the world you've known and loved your whole life, that scared you your whole life, you couldn't help but think of what Jake was doing, and feel grateful for it. You thought about how it only consolidated the way you've always viewed him, as a great warrior, a great father, a great mentor... a great man. You thought about your crush, and how it embarrassed you as a teenager, and how you couldn't look him in the eye whenever he came to the lab and asked you a question, how you couldn't be around him without thinking you're gonna catch fire. That was long ago.
It passed, you thought. The crush, slightly weird and completely unattainable, passed through time. Yet here you stood, bare back, yet another foreign feeling you were trying to get used to, flush against his muscular chest, his palm protectively wrapped around your abdomen, and somehow, you forgot to take in the beauty of this world you’ve never seen from such a high vantage point, forgot to enjoy the fact you were literally flying, the air flowing through your luscious, thick hair… you forgot to breathe.
“You okay there, kid? Tell me if this is overwhelming, we can take a break.”
“N-no. I’m alright…Thank you.”
“Good girl.”
I'm still on that trapeze I'm still trying everything To keep you looking at me
Jake struggled to rationalise how things could have ever ended up this way. How did this happen? A few short months ago, it seemed, his life was... normal, or as normal as life could be in the middle of an ongoing territorial war with a species that was once his own, that he now disowned, that he now despised most days. Still. Normal. The same way it had been since he arrived on Pandora, since he mated with Neytiri, since he had one kid, and then another, and another...
He's known you since you were born. He took pity on you, much like he did Spider, for the cruelness of the Universe, for whatever it took for you to be born on this planet he loved, but knew was inhospitable to those who weren't made for it. Aliens. That was about the extent of your similarities to Spider, though. Unlike him, you were sweet, docile, quiet. You never came out to the village, and the few times you did, you just stood in a corner, on some tree stump, clinging to Neteyam like a little lost puppy.
How did it end up this way? It was wrong, it was all wrong. He knew it in his heart he had to stop, and he's been trying... so hard, it was all so hard. In these months, despite his mind telling him otherwise, urging him to consider all he stood to lose, he still ended up putting his life, everything he's built up on the line for you, doing things that frightened him, ashamed him, embarrassed him, but that he couldn't stop doing because it was you. And you were everything, and the way you made him feel was everything. And it all started that night.
The training was not necessarily any less painful than it had been, but he was right - it was easier. He was a good teacher, you told him. You say you understood now where Neteyam got it from, his penchant for imparting wisdom in a calm, collected and patient manner. He went through all the basics, and after a good few hours, he felt like you were almost... relaxed. By eclipse, you were hunched over food that he was preparing over fire, while practicing your Na'vi - the only thing you felt comfortable enough to call yourself good in, and for the first time since you got your Avatar, you looked... happy. You needed this and he knew it. You didn't even know it for yourself, but he knew. And thinking about it, and him, made you blurt out a secret you held in your soul for years and years, before your mind had enough time to talk you out of it.
“I used to have a crush on you, you know?” You chuckled a little, and Jake was fascinated by the sound, which sounded less like a laugh and more like bells chiming in the wind, and by the purple tinge of your cheeks as you confessed something that he couldn’t believe his ears, that were now pushed back flat in shock.
“You used to have a crush on me?”
His tone amused you even further, it seemed, because you brought a hand to your mouth to stifle the sound Jake felt a sudden desire to continue hearing for the rest of his life.
“Why do you sound so surprised?”
“I don’t know, kid, just… never thought out of everyone in this village, and the labs, people your own age, including my kids and Spider, you’d ever have a crush on an old man like me.” He chuckles his own rugged, awkward laugh and looks over at you, the way he couldn’t stop himself doing, it seemed, to gauge for a reaction that he didn’t know whether he wanted to see.
“I think that was part of the charm, actually.” As you catch yourself talking, you stop and turn, the tinge in your cheeks no longer a tinge but a splash of violent colour as you pat yourself aggressively with both hands, to release some of the heat that pooled unwelcome in your face. “I… I really should not… say things.”
He raises an eyebrow, clearly amused and intrigued at the new development. “So you like ‘em older, huh, kid? Always the shy and quiet ones, ain’t that so?”
You retreat further in yourself at the way he just called you out, unconsciously making yourself smaller by bringing your knees in and wrapping your arms around them, your face buried in between your legs in embarrassment and you let out a small groan. You couldn’t believe this was happening to you. First time in your life you were fully alone with this great man, this man that is a legend, that will have history books written about him even back on Earth, this man that knew so much and achieved enough to last lifetimes and instead of learning from him, instead of doing what you came here to do to begin with, here you are, running your mouth faster than your brain could catch up, making sure you would never be able to look him in the eyes ever again.
“Are you still playing that guitar of yours? You used to drive Neytiri crazy with that thing when you were young.”
“Yeah, I still play, just, I keep it to the rec centre mostly.”
“Why?”
“I just... don’t want to bother anyone.”
You sounded sad, too sad. He saw your eyes swimming with tears and he cringed at the way he was unable to make you feel fully comfortable around him. This shouldn't be this hard.
“Ah, kid… you can play in the village. The Omaticaya love music, they’re called the Flute Clan for cryin’ out loud. They just need time.”
“It’s been 23 years.”
Jake didn’t push anymore, not when you were right. It’s been a long enough time, but some things… some things don’t get better with time. Jake’s always hated that stupid old saying anyway.
“Y’know… I play a little guitar, too.” He scoffs a little as he thinks more about it. “Well, used to play. Probably not any good anymore, but at some point, I used to be.”
Your eyes shoot to him and the glimmer in them makes Jake’s mind come to a standstill - they were so beautiful. You were so beautiful.
“Really? That’s amazing!” And just like that, your previous outburst was swiftly forsaken and forgotten, the new piece of information far too exciting for you to dwell on anything else. “How come I’ve never heard you? You should play for us sometime.”
Jake smiled a sorrowful smile that stopped short of reaching his eyes. “Just… haven’t had the chance.”
There were a lot of reasons Jake hasn’t done so many of the things that used to bring him joy when he was human. But ya win some, ya lose some, that was always his philosophy for life anyway. He had so much to be grateful for in this life, so much more than he ever thought possible for a grunt like him. The Universe has been more than generous in compensating him for a lifetime of resentment and regrets, and so if he had to give certain things up, that he did so without thinking twice about it.
“So how did you learn?”
“My old man taught me, probably the only thing he ever taught me, unless you count how to run a backdoor draw while high off your ass.” Jake lets out a humourless laugh, enjoying the look of confusion plastered all over your face, and the way your tanhì seemed to shine brighter when you ruminated over something in your head. Your nose crinkles a little, as his words register fully in your ears and they twitch, and the humourless laugh quickly evolves in a warm, inward smile.
You were beautiful, he ends up acknowledging yet again, taking in all the mannerisms that somehow escaped him all these years.
“A what?”
Jake chuckles, shaking his head. “Nevermind.”
“Did you not… get along with your dad?”
Jake finds himself, for the first time in years, too many years, thinking about his dad and his life as a young kid back on Earth, and all the shitty memories that came along with that thought, memories he’s tried to repress most of his life. He catches yet another sigh before it escapes him, a habit he’s seemed to have quickly picked up in your presence, as you asked questions most people never did, questions he didn’t want to answer, questions he wanted nothing more than to be asked.
“My dad was a mean ol’ dog, who liked women and booze more than he ever liked Tommy or me. I could never find it in me to care when he died.” That was morbid, he recognises, but it needed to be said. Something about you just makes him want to just… confess things he shouldn’t be feeling, and shouldn’t be saying out loud, and yet here he was, heart thumping and palms sweating almost nervously, and the word vomit didn’t seem like it was anywhere close to over.
“He made mean sloppy joes, though. And he played the guitar like he was born with a six-string in his hands.” There were some good memories. The memory of his dad teaching young squirt Jake Future Days, his old, cigarette-imbued hoarse voice singing the lyrics that still had the power to bring tears to his eyes… that was one of the good ones.
You smiled as he spoke, a warm, inviting smile, that made the breath catch in his lungs and begged him to spill all the secrets that he tried so hard to bury deep inside, and he feels his stomach drop when he realises the feelings you invoked in him, for the first time in his life, were no longer ones he could justify or explain, but ones that demanded to be felt.
The silence was heavy and awkward after that, or so he thought, and he watched you as you ruminated over his words, as you nibbled at the fish he managed to catch while teaching you the basics of fishing. He shouldn't have said it, any of it. What the hell does he think he's doing, going around confessing the depths of his somewhat bitter soul to a kid who knew nothing about life, and who shouldn't have to carry his burdens to begin with. Maybe coming here was a mistake. Maybe being alone with you... was a mistake.
"You should go to sleep, kid. There's a long day ahead of us tomorrow, and the sooner we're done, the sooner your life can go back to normal."
You nodded gently and obliged.
“I think you’re lying.” You say, as you turn your back to him, closing your eyes and preparing yourself to return to your human body, as soon as sleep would find you. “I think you cared. I think you still care. And it’s ok to care. Sometimes… people are horrible and they suck… and we love them anyway. And I think that’s what makes humans special… and good.”
Jake was too stunned to be able to say anything else, as he stared mouth-agape at your back.
“Sleep well, Jake.”
Maybe he did lie. Maybe life will never go back to normal again and the thought... the thought terrified him.
Because I'm a mirrorball I'm a mirrorball I'll show you every version of yourself Tonight

you were born as eclipse had fallen over pandora, a couple weeks after the birth of the first born child of toruk makto, neteyam sully. you were told you had been a gift from eywa herself. your mother, yotxve had fallen ill during her pregnancy with you. unfortunately, the illness took her. but the clan was determined to save you and they did just that, laying your mothers pregnant body underneath the true of souls and prayed to the great mother- and she answered, baring the great birth of you.
when one life ends, another begins.
your father oza, a fierce warrior who had battled alongside toruk makto during the battle against the sky people. he was one of the lucky na'vi who had managed to survive the great fight- but not without a few scars no doubt. he was the person you looked up to, he was the best father you could have asked for- he cherished you, you were his miracle.
when you were 4 you were by a river along with many other young na'vi in the clan, all playing amongst themselves. you were trying to catch one of the many fish that called the river their home, your eyes trained on one that fell astray from the other fish. watching it carefully about to pounce on it until a boy came splashing in the water were it was making it quickly swim away- you looked up to the boy, he had long braided hair and a large grin on his face. "you scared away the fish!" you yelled at him angrily.
the boy turned to look at the water around him then back up to you. "i don't see any fish." he replied confused as you huffed, your shoulders sagging from dissapointment "that's because you scared it away."
the boy felt bad that he had accidently scared the fish away, you were about to get up and go try and find some other creatures in the river until the boy spoke up, "my name is neteyam, what's yours?"
you looked at the boy who was named neteyam, smiling slightly. "i'm y/n." neteyam grinned widely at the smile on you face.
"i know a good spot to catch some fish, my dad brings me there all the time. here come with me." he grabbed your hand and the two of you rushed down the river to catch some more fish.
that was how your friendship with neteyam sully had began, all because he had scared away the fish you wanted- ever since then you and him were inseparable, bound to the hip. everyone in the clan grew to know of the friendship you two shared, if you were near chances were neteyam sully was somewhere not far behind.
as the two of you grew, so did the feelings you felt for one another. only few picked up on the fact that the two of you didn't look at each other like simple best friends should- neteyam looked at you as if you painted the stars in dark sky itself, as if you were the only na'vi on pandora- and each time you saw him you looked at him like he had just came back from a long trip, like he was the only na'vi on pandora.
yet the two of you were unaware that you both shared the same feelings for each other- not realising both of you felt the exact same thing the other felt. both waiting for the day that comes to confess.
you sat on the wooden floor of the tsahìks hut, preparing to heal the injured from the war party with kiri- awaiting patiently for the raid party to come back. kiri glanced next to her-which that was where you were- and rolled her eyes. "do not worry, y/n. neteyam is fine, i'm sure."
your head snapped up to kiri, narrowing your eyes- becoming a little flustered."i am not just worrying about neteyam, i'm worried about the whole raid party." that wasn't the complete truth, you were mostly worrying about neteyam.
"right," kiri raised her eyebrows, not believing you. "cause you and neteyam aren't completely in love with each other." she said teasingly, knowing that that will make you more flustered.
"i am not in love with neteyam, kiri." it felt so wrong as the words rolled off your tongue.
you and kiri were very close, she was the person you went to when you needed to talk and couldn't go to neteyam. she enjoyed your company as much as you enjoyed hers, often going exploring around pandora admiring it's beauty. she knew you were lying right off your tongue.
you smirked, a thought appearing in your mind. "if you want to talk about being in love," you dragged out the 'e', "let's talk about you and monkey boy."
she snapped her head to you, eyes wide- before narrowing her eyes at you, knowing what you were doing. "ew, i would rather let an ikran eat me whole." before you could say another word to kiri tuk came running in shouting happily.
"they're back! the raid party is back!" you and kiri shot up abou to run to where they have arrived, but a voice interrupted you making you stop.
"y/n, i need you to stay here." mo'at spoke, the tsahík- you were not one to speak back to elders. you nodded, feeling a bit disappointed that you couldn't go see everyone. turning to kiri you spoke.
"you go, i'll stay here." you told her before she rushed off with tuk to see her family arrive back. you turned back to mo'at, who was observing you- you would be lying if you said you didn't feel nervous under her intense gaze. it was as if she was looking into your soul, judging it for itself.
it was only the two of you in her hut- which was filled with herbs and fruits. you had never been alone with the tsahík of the clan before. only talked with her whilst others where also there, you thought she was incedberily wise- she is the tsahík after all. "come help me." mo'at motioned for you to come help her grind some herbs. you nodded, sitting down next to her grabbing a bowl of herbs. except she was not grinding down the herbs, her eyes were still set on you. "my grandson has told me much about you."
you looked up to her, surprised. "which one?" you asked, although you already knew the answer- mo'at also knew that you knew exactly which grandson she was talking about.
she picked up a bowl of herbs, beginning to grind them down- tearing her gaze from you. "you and i know which one." she replied shortly. "you are to be tsahík?" you felt heat rush to your face and ears at mo'ats' question.
you didn't know what to say, "no, i do not think so." she gazed back up at you, narrowing her eyes- but not in a threatening manner, yet again you felt like she was trying to see your soul.
"you like neteyam, no?" mo'at questioned you again. you felt weird, talking to your best friends grandma about him- the best friend in which you had developed feelings for.
"uh- yes, but not like that." she chuckled lightly at your response- which was so obviously far from the truth, she saw how her eldest grandchild talked about you- the glint in his eyes when he did or when someone mentioned your name. she had been observing the two of you for quite some while now, noticing the extra glances the both of you spare to one another when you think no one is watching- when you think the other doesn't notice.
"it is not very wise to not tell the truth to the tsahík, hm?" she grabbed a fruit from beside her, her voice gentle as she spoke. "do not worry child, only eywa will know of what you tell me."
you no longer felt nervous talking to her, your shoulders relaxing as you took a deep breath out. "yes, you are correct." this was the first time you had ever voiced out your feelings for the boy you had grown up with.
she smirked slightly, chopping up the fruit in her hand. "i am always correct, child." she handed you the lush fruit she had cut up, you putting it in the wooden bowl beginning to crush it until it turned into a thick paste. "you will be a good tsahík."
your heart warmed at her compliment, it was one thing for someone to say that- but it was a whole other thing for the tsahík to tell you that. "thank you, that means a lot." you smiled warmly bowing your head slightly to her, which she returned.
you were deep in thought, trying to process everything. mo'at noticed this, "you doubt my words?" she asked.
"no, it is not that." you replied quickly as she gazed at you, telling you to continue. "i do not think neteyam returns my feelings." you gazed down to the wooden floor sadly until you heard a laugh from the woman in front of you making you look back up to her.
mo'at shook her head slightly. "i know my grandson, child." her chuckle died down slowly, "he comes to me, speaking of a woman that has a strong heart and that has taken his own." you listened intently to her words. "he spoke of a mighty warrior, one who holds much love for those around her and will not spare a second thought to help. i doubted my grandsons words, i will not lie." she grinded down the leaves in her bowl. "that is why i chose you to assist me along with kiri."
you had always thought kiri had chosen you to help along with her, but it was all so she could meet the na'vi in which her grandson told her about.
she looked up to you, looking into your eyes. "but, i do not doubt his words anymore." you smiled at her words. she continued to speak, she reached out for your hands taking them in hers as she gazed into your eyes. before another word could be exchanged kiri came bursting through the door, you snapped your neck to her.
"y/n, neteyam has been injured." your eyes went wide in worry, turning back to mo'at who nodded telling you to go.
you stood up quickly about to rush out with kiri before quickly turning back to the tsahík. "thank you." you whispered to her, than ran out of her hut to go to neteyam.
mo'at watched you intently as you left, watching you retreating figure exit the door. "great mother, may you help the two lost souls find one another." she whispered, speaking to the great mother that watched over every being that walked upon her beautiful creation.
you ran alongside kiri to where neteyam was. opening the door to see him sitting down holding his side which was bloodied, grunting in pain from his injury whilst tuk sat next to him- her gaze turning to the door to see who had walked in, eyes widening when she saw you. "y/n!" she grinned ear to ear.
the sound of your name running in neteyam's ears, turning to look at you- smiling slightly at your presence before wincing at his injury once more, almost forgetting he had one in the first place upon your arrival.
"y/n can you heal him, i need to go help grandmother with the other injured." kiri asked you, you nodded- not minding one bit. "thank you, come on tuk."
tuk whined getting up, "i want to stay with neteyam and y/n." she protested as you smiled gently, bending down to her.
"go with kiri, tuk. i will come and find you after and you can tell me all about your little adventure you had today, alright?" you patted her head as she grinned widely once more at your words, nodding excitedly in agreement.
neteyam stared at you talking to tuk, he always knew you were good with children but whenever he saw you talking to his little sister he felt his heart swell- he couldn't help but let his mind drift to wonder what you would be like with his children, he knew you would without a doubt be a wonderful mother.
tuk and kiri excited the hut, leaving the two of you in the small hut. standing up you made your way over to neteyam, meeting his eyes and smiling at him- which he returned immediately, trying to swat away his thoughts before he grew flustered. you sat down in front of him, removing his hand from his wound to observe it.
"you're a skxqwng." you told him as you reached out for a wet cloth, "hello to you too." neteyam replied before sucking in a harsh breath when you applied the wet cloth to the bloodied area.
you dabbed his wound, trying to be as gentle as possible- that is why he always wanted you to patch him up instead of his grandmother or kiri, they were harsh but you were gentle with him. "you cannot always take the blame for lo'ak," you spoke, your eyes trained on his wound- kiri told you about him taking the blame for lo'ak, yet again. "one of these days he will need to take responsibility for his own actions."
neteyam sighed, trying not to hiss from the sting of the cold cloth on his skin. "i know, he is just so reckless sometimes."
"i know that, i grew up with him too." you chuckled slightly, recalling all the times when you were younger that lo'ak had dragged you into one of his crazy ideas- which always ended up with you and him getting scolded by both of your fathers.
"where were you when we arrived back?" he asked curiously, you usually were the first to greet him when he came back- but you were not today and he missed you.
you suddenly remembered the talk you had with mo'at and felt your face burn, thanking eywa he couldn't see your face. "your grandmother wanted me to help her."
neteyam nodded, understanding why you couldn't greet him. you removed the damp cloth from his side, picking a bowl of thick paste that kiri had made. "this might sting a bit." you warned him as you dipped your fingers in the paste, spreading it onto his wound- making him hiss. "sorry." you winced at his own pain.
"it's okay- do not apologise, you did nothing." neteyam said whilst trying to ignore the pain in his side- but he didn't regret following after lo'ak, he didn't regret getting injured because it meant you would heal him- he would do anything to feel your warm touch against his skin, even if it does slightly hurt. "the sky people are getting stronger, our arrows and knives are defenceless against their machinery." you felt a pit form in your stomach at his information, it scared you. you were told of the great battle that your dad had fought in alongside toruk makto, how the sky people had destroyed hometree within mere seconds.
you sighed rubbing the paste into his side, it seeping into his wound. "everything will be okay, nete." oh eywa, neteyam felt as if he could melt to the ground in the ways in which you spoke his name- wondering what it would be like to have you whisper his name in the dark, just the two of your souls together. he hadn't realised how long he had been admiring you until your voice snapped him out of the trance you had unknowingly put him under. "done." you said as you placed a bandage on his side, "go easy for the rest of today, it should be all better when you wake up tomorrow.
"thank you," neteyam looked down to the bandage you had placed, "you are a great healer." he praised you as you looked up and met his eyes.
"that is because i am being trained by the tsahìk." you laughed slightly which made neteyam chuckle as well. you started packing up the supplies you had used on neteyam, his eyes not leaving you as you did so. watching you carefully he thought of how you would be a perfect tsahìk.
he cursed himself mentally, how could he be having thoughts like that of his best friend? the girl who he had been friends with since he was 4- the answer was he shouldn't, but he couldn't help it.
you felt neteyam's gaze on you and turned to him, he coughed slightly realising he had been caught staring at you. "you know you can go now, nete?" you put a lid back onto a bowl, making sure it was sealed tightly.
"yes, but i want to stay." you smiled at his response, "can i not spend time with my best friend?" he teased grinning.
you rolled your eyes playfully, placing the jar on a shelf- finishing packing away everything, turning back to neteyam who was still seated. your eyes gazed up towards his hair which was in long messy braids, that were begging to be rebraided. his hand subconciously flew to his hair when he saw your gaze being held on it. "is there something in my hair?" he asked confused, making you chuckle as you approached him.
you sat down behind him, making him more confused but as your hand made its way to his hair his shoulders relaxed at your gentle touch in his hair- sighing in content as you started to untangle his braids, one by one. "when was the last time you have done your hair?" you asked, unbraiding a braid removing the beads at the ends.
"i don't know, a while?" he replied, melting into your touch.
"i can tell." you chuckled, looking at how he was sitting- it looked uncomfortable. "lay down."
"what?"
you placed your hands either side of his head, pulling his head down into your lap- his eyes widened slightly, not expecting the sudden gesture. but he quickly relaxed, his eyes slowly closing- he felt like he was in heaven, his head in your warm lap, your fingers running through his hair- which sent shivers down his spine. he felt like he could fall asleep right then and there. he had completely forgot about the pain in his side. neteyam usually didn't let his guard down, but as he felt your fingers on his scalp he felt all his worries seep through his finger, dissolving into nothingness. if only you knew that he would do anything for you, you had him wrapped around your finger and you didn't even know it.
you finally had finished undoing all the messy old braids in his hair, sighing happily you admired neteyam's relaxed face. he was so beautiful, you felt like a young na'vi who had just gotten their first clean kill whenever he looked at you with those eyes that were now closed shut. neteyam opened one eye slightly, seeing you were staring down at him he opened his eyes fully, locking your gazes together- he wanted to pull your head down to kiss you. after a couple seconds you felt your face heat up, growing flustered from the intense eye contact- snapping your gaze from his. he smirked, loving how he made you flustered from just staring into your eyes.
you reached down into your bag attached to your hip, pulling out your hand crafted beads you had just made a couple days ago. "you are lucky, i just made these." you handed the small jar of beads that you were going to put in his hair for him to hold as you began working on the first braid. he felt so special whenever he wore beads you had crafted in his hair, he loved walking around na'vi with your beads in his hair- showing off you had done his hair, he didn't need to say one word for others to know you did his hair. every na'vi knew of what your beads looked like and neteyam wore them with pride- rubbing it into all the men in the clan that sought after you that you had chosen to do his hair.
you held your hand out, signaling for him to get out beads so you could secure the braid. he reached into the jar, picking out two for you and placed it into your palm- fingers brushing against it. starting to work on more braids.
you placed out your hand again, waiting to feel the beads drop into it- but it never came, you ripped your gaze from the braid you had just did and onto neteyam's sleeping face, the jar of beads on his chest- rising up and down with his chest as he slept soundly. you chuckled quietly, not wanting to wake him. reaching into the jar that laid on his bare chest, picking up beads for his braided hair. it felt all so right, just him and you with the only sound being the quiet gush of the wind outside of the hut and the occasional voice of a na'vi passing by. you wished to have an entire lifetime of this.
neteyam had lost track of time, his eyes fluttered open slowly- he didn't know when he had drifted off to sleep but he wasn't surprised that he managed to do so. you felt his head shift slightly in your lap, telling you he was finally awake. "he's finally awake!" you joked laughing. neteyam smiled softly, reaching his hand to his hair to see how much you had done but you smacked his hand away before he could. "i'm nearly done."
any other person would have been thankful that one was nearly done with doing their hair, but not neteyam. he wished for you to never be done, he wanted to stay like this until time came to an end.
"done!" you declared, pulling your hands away from his newly done braids- he suddenly missed the contact of your fingers tangled into his hair. he sat up slowly, removing his head from your lap. you missed the warmth of his head on your lap as he sat up- feeling the bare air touch your skin suddenly.
he ran his fingers through his braided hair, looking at his hair that fell in front of him- smiling as he saw your beads scattered across the ends of his braids. he didn't say anything, just continued to stare at the beautiful handcrafted beads.
"do you like it?" you asked, growing worried from his lack of words- not being able to read the expression on his face.
he tore his eyes from his hair to you and smiled, "i love it." you grinned at his words, happy that he liked it. "it's official, you are now my hair braider." you chuckled at his words, not knowing he was being dead serious.
"if that is the case, i will need to start getting things from you for my service." you joked playfully, flicking his forehead with your fingers teasingly.
"i will get you anything." he breathlessly said, admiring your feature that he was sure were crafted by the great mother herself with the utter most delicacy and precision. neteyam was not lying one bit when he told you he would get you anything, he would get you the stars in the night sky if you asked.
you smiled softly, a blush slowly forming on your cheeks. "well, i do need some more materials for more beads- since i used the ones i made on you." you said playfully, earning a light shove from neteyam in response.
"i will get them for you, what do you need?"
your ears perked up slightly at his response, "really?"
he nodded, "what do you need for those beautiful beads of yours." oh this boy was going to be the death of you.

the communal fire burnt brightly, everyone sat around while consuming their supper. you didn’t have much of an appetite, resorting to you sitting in your lonesome and quietly watching your clan with bored eyes. the sounds of chattering and laughter buzzed in your ears, everyone speaking happily amongst themselves about today’s successful mission. your mind was elsewhere — in your own little fantasy you’d created with a certain someone. to the average person, this would seem rather pathetic. but you were wilfully blind.
“not hungry?”
you were swiftly brought out of your thoughts, glancing over your shoulder and noticing your olo’eyktan taking a seat besides you. there was an instant burst of joy that coursed through you - a coy smile painting your face as you shook your head in response. “no, sir. my tummy feels funny.”
“y’know you don’t have to keep calling me sir, right?” jake chuckled at your timid response, giving your side a playful nudge. “just call me jake. sir makes me feel old.”
“sorry. jake.” you apologise quietly, anxiously scratching your forearm.
this nightly ritual of jake visiting you throughout supper had become one of your favourite moments of the day. you were so helplessly smitten with him - your closest friends would joke that it neared an obsession at this point. it was your deepest secret, what was once an innocent crush had blossomed into something forbidden. you were hopelessly in love with your olo'eyktan - and it pained you everyday knowing nothing could ever come of it.
you felt jake's hand rest on your knee, a playful expression on his face. "where do 'ya disappear to in that head of yours?" he smiled warmly, clearly taking notice of how your trance-like state. you brushed it off with a coy smile, shrugging timidly at the question. jake's hand placement was innocent, especially the gentle pats he gave assuringly. "you got a stomach bug or somethin'? could explain the loss of appetite."
"no, it's not that. i'm just a little sad." you admit honestly, a small sigh escaping your lips as you glanced down at the ground.
jake’s face fell at your words. he shifted a little closer, his hand still placed on your bent knee. “what’s wrong?” he asks with a concerned tone, you could hear how genuinely worried he was. jake cared about you - just as he cared for anyone in the clan. but you never saw the blurred line between the two.
you couldn’t admit what you were feeling. there was no chance in hell that you’d ever tell jake what was going through your head. how do you possibly tell your leader that you never stop thinking of him? that his friendly gestures and innocent touches felt like ecstasy to you? that you envied his mate with your entire being? these weren’t regular thoughts. these weren’t normal feelings. even in your own delusional little bubble — you could recognise that these emotions were taboo.
“you can talk to me, kid. y’know that.” jake assured once again, using that bastardly nickname you loathed. kid. was that all he saw you as? you were a grown woman, not some sad pouting child with a tummy ache.
you sighed deeply, trying to form some kind of lie in your head as you gazed at jake. “i’m, uh…i’m not feeling confident with my skills. that’s it. i don’t..um, i still can’t shoot properly.” you try to sound as genuine as possible - hoping that your sullen expression could convince him even further. it was a ridiculous lie, but nothing else came to mind. your aim was impeccable.
jake nodded slowly, his lips soon curling into a small smile. "how about this? tomorrow morning, i'll take ‘ya out for some practice."
you couldn't contain the grin that grew on your face. your little white lie had lead to something even better — alone time with jake. you nodded eagerly at his offer, trying your hardest to suppress the overwhelming excitement you were feeling. "really? you'd do that?"
“course i would, anything to help.” jake says with a warm smile, giving your knee one last squeeze before retracting his hand away. “i’ll swing by your hut after the morning hunt and we’ll go from there. sound good?”
“that sounds amazing. thank you, si-” you pause for a moment, correcting yourself quickly before calling him sir. “jake. thank you, jake.”
jake chuckled in response, giving you a friendly wink before climbing to his feet and bidding you farewell. your eyes followed him as he walked back to his mate, jealously watching him plant a kiss on her cheek. you shook your head, taking a deep breath before remembering that you had tomorrow to be excited for. ‘it’s fine, it’s all fine.’ you’d repeat in your head, appeasing the envious feelings that began to bubble up inside you.
the idea of spending hours alone with jake kept you calm and collected. a giddy smile formed on your lips as your thumb grazed the skin of your knee — already missing jake’s comforting touch against you.
that night in your hut was restless, you couldn’t contain the excitement of seeing jake in the morning. you held your pillow to your chest, sighing in pure ecstasy at the mere thought of spending hours on end with him. it was an incomparable feeling, another chapter to file in your delusional bliss.
Tumblr media
“that’s it. arms straight, no slouchin’. you gotta keep your posture nice and tight.”
jake instructed you from the side, speaking with a stern yet calm tone. you already knew this, this information had been drilled in your head since your were a child. but were more than willing to act a little oblivious for the sake of some alone time with your olo’eyktan.
you followed his instructions, straightening your dominant arm as you firmly held the heavy bow in your hand. you gingerly glanced over your shoulder at jake, purposely hunching your back a little. your eyes quickly darted to the target painted on the distant tree — eagerly awaiting for jake’s reaction to your form.
“c’mon, you can’t shoot an arrow with sloppy posture.” jake says disapprovingly.
you felt him stand directly behind you, one callous hand pressing on your tummy while the other rested on your lower back. a gentle gasp escaped your lips, quiet enough for only you to hear. you held yourself back from keening into his touch, carefully keeping the inch long distance from his body.
“stand straight, hon. ‘ya can’t hunch when shooting, it’ll mess up your aim.” jake whispers solemnly, adjusting your posture with gentle movements. as he straightened your back, you felt him lean in closer to smooth his hands across your shoulders encouragingly. “now, when yr’ready, take your shot.”
you took a deep breath, ignoring the shiver than ran down your spine as you expertly released the string of the bow. bullseye. the arrow roughly pierced the red dot on the tree, perfectly centred and all. a wave of pride engulfed you as you lowered the bow, looking over your shoulder to gauge jake’s reaction.
his eyes were wide, proudly laughing as he suddenly engulfed you from behind. “holy shit!” jake cheered loudly, rocking your body back and forth as he celebrated your shot. you giggled quietly, allowing yourself to lean back against his embrace for a moment. you were caged in his muscular arms as jake continued to praise your aim, almost in disbelief at how incredible it was.
you were in a state of pure euphoria as jake gleefully clung onto you. while this wasn’t the first time he’d hugged you - this was certainly the most endearing. you nearly melted at his constant praises, immediately feeling a warmth fill your cheek as you flushed insanely. you could get used to this feeling.
he spun your around swiftly, gripping your shoulders tightly as he shook you playfully. “how the hell did ‘ya do that? you’re a natural!”
“it wasn’t that great.” you mutter nervously, glancing up at jake with a flustered expression.
“you kiddin’ me? that was incredible.” jake lauded, that signature smile of his making you grin in return. “god, yr’something else, eh?”
your face was flushed as you stare up at jake, unsure of how else to respond to his words. he seemed to take notice of the tinge of mauve on your cheeks, mistaking it for some sort of heat exhaustion. “you feeling hot?” jake pressed his palm against your forehead, the back of his hand soon checking the temperature of your cheek. “let’s go get you cooled off. you’re burning up, kid.”
these small revelations always pained you. no matter how much you proved yourself to jake, he’d always see you as a bashful, little girl. you couldn’t even enjoy the walk back to camp as he kept his arm snaked around your shoulder — you knew it was all for the sake of protecting you. caring for you. and not in the way you wanted him to.
there had to be some way to show jake you were more than some injured lamb. and even if it meant risking your relationship with him entirely — it would be a leap worth taking. you refused to live with the heavy burden of your feelings anymore.
