you know in booktok when people say ‘*author* basically raised me’ ?? well i have that, but its kinda weird. obviously rick riordan, cause his books were the ones that made me realize how much i loved reading. then chris colfer, cause he’s a genius and when i read them for the first time i just fell for every single character. little me who loved disney movies loved tlos just as much. then there’s james riley, and that’s the weird thing. i never read one of his books completely. i read the first 100 pages of half upon a time but i never finished it. and i started story thieves but also dropped it. and somehow, still, i feel such a connection to his books and the way he writes. i used to reread story thieves all the time, but i have never read the end. never. and i have no idea why. i just dropped it every time.

(ID: Fanart of Lena (white teenage female, blondeish hair and brown eyes) from the Twice Upon A Time series by James Riley. Lena is smiling at the viewer with one hand at her side and one on her hip. She on a dress with the asexual flag, blue pants and a brown belt around her waist. Background is light blue. End ID).
Pride Month Drawing Challenge! Draw the character responsible for your LGBTQ+ awakening. No rules- any character who is in any way responsible for you discovering your identity (or would be had you found them earlier). I don't know if this is an actual challenge, I was just thinking of Lena the other day and got this idea.

Father/Son Time (HUAT Fanfic)
Bet you can’t catch me!” Jacklyn yelled at her brother as they ran around their house. Eudoran laughed and continued chasing her.
“Quite the kids you got there.” Jack the Twelfth said to his son, also called Jack. “Reminds me of someone.” He glared at his son and his sister Jillian. “Better hope one doesn’t break his head.”
“I’m betting it’ll be Jacklyn!” Jill smiled. “Not only does she share his name but she also shares his thick skull.”
Her brother rolled his eyes. “It wasn’t exactly my fault you pushed me down the hill.”
Jill snorted. “Still sulking about it aren’t you?” For a second it seemed like Jack was going to pull out his sword and attack his sister, but he seemed to calm down.”
“I don’t know, but I think of all my children, Aleister here has the most fragile head.” Jill’s sister in law, May, held up her baby smiling.
Jack the Twelfth laughed. “Can’t argue with that.” Then he turned to his son. “You got one smart wife there, maybe she has enough brains to make up for the loss of yours.” Jill and May chuckled as the man’s son growled.
“I have enough brains to decide where you’ll live when you can’t take care of yourself anymore.”
“I don’t even think you have enough brains for that!” His father said, making Jill laugh harder while May smacked her husband.
“That is no way to talk to your father!” She hissed.
“I don’t know, he’s the one who started it.”
“Listen to your wife, son! She knows what she’s saying and I demand respect.” Jack the Twelfth raised his hands up dramatically.
Jack the Thirteenth rolled his eyes and disappeared from view reappearing behind his father, his sword drawn. “I don’t know how much I can respect a father, who can’t keep track of his own son. If grandpa was alive he could tell you all about how he was the one who raised me for most of my childhood.”
“I was still behind it all.” His dad smiled. “I knew you’d be fine.”
“Be fine? I almost doomed the world!?!”
“But it did turn out okay.”
Jack glared at his father. “I was stabbed by my own sword, a sword given to me by my uncle, by the way, something you conveniently forgot to mention to your ONLY son!”
May put a hand on his shoulder. “Maybe its time to calm down honey!”
Her husband rubbed his temple. “Yeh, I’m gonna go lay down.”
As soon as Jack left the room his father turned to Jillian. “Ah, Family, the greatest thing in life, isn’t it?”

however James Riley treats his canon isn't quite "death of the author" it's more like "the author put a sheet over his head and is pretending to be a ghost so he can stick around and hear different interpretations without having the final word of god" and tbh you gotta respect that

James Riley Appreciation Week 2024
Day 6: I chose AU! So basically when I first read HUAT, I imagined May as Little Red Riding Hood (that was before I read about the Red Hood/Rose Red). The idea came back to me, so I decided to draw it! (And yes, I needed to add May's blue streak because she looks incomplete without it)

Character Aesthetic - Sgt. James "Gunner" Riley - WIP: Dead Embers
(he/him) 30s
A bullheaded Scot who dislikes Fireflies isn't what one would expect in a PMC full of them, but he's spent over a decade shouldering rifles and as far as his boss is concerned there's nobody better to have at your back. He's a smartass and often difficult to read behind the mask but nobody's getting left behind. Not on his watch.
