AOT Characters as Pilots in Top Gun
Erwin Smith, Levi Ackerman, Zeke Yeager, Reiner Braun, Jean Kirstein, Porco Galliard
Tumblr media
Summary: Call signs, flight positions, partners, and flying styles of some of our favorite AOT men based on Top Gun.
Word Count: 0.5K
Warnings: Piloty jargon
A/N: Here is my first little dabble into some Top Gun content, and it's with some of my favs, so please enjoy :) also if you know what a barrow is it makes Porco's a LOT funnier😂-Birch<3
Tumblr media
Erwin Smith
-Call Sign: "Game-Master", aka "Games"
-Position: Radar Intercept Officer (RIO), aka Weapon System Officer (WSO)
-Partner: Levi Ackerman
-Style: As a RIO, Erwin is very tactical and tends to stay very calm and collected when they hit rough air. He primarily leads missions, staying in charge of weapons and how they are employed. His aviation helmet is dark green and black, with "Game" written on the left and "Master" on the right in silver letters.
---
Levi Ackerman
-Call Sign: "Wings"
-Position: Naval Aviator
-Partner: Erwin Smith
-Style: This shouldn't be a shocker, but Levi is an amazing pilot. He doesn't always stick to the book and rules, which can get him in trouble with the captains. He doesn't mind doing risky and sharp turns and dives to get into tone range on the MiGs, which makes him a hazard when he's being dangerous. It keeps enemies on their toes, and he has Erwin's full trust as a pilot. Levi's aviation helmet is dark grey and black, with "Wings" directly above his forehead.
---
Zeke Yeager
-Call Sign: "Beastboy", aka "Beast"
-Position: Naval Aviator
-Partner: Porco Galliard
-Style: He flies like Iceman- to the book, and to the rules. He gets very upset with Levi when Levi dashes off of his wing to try to get the instructors during tests, leaving him unguarded. But he's still a strong pilot, and insanely good at getting into tone range. His helmet is brown, with "Beast" on the right side of his helmet, and "Boy" on the left side, back beside his temples.
---
Reiner Braun
-Call Sign: "Chainmail"
-Position: Naval Aviator
-Partner: Jean Kirstein
-Style: Reiner is an...interesting pilot. He can get shaken up by seeing too many MiGs, or gettting into the jet wash during training. But Jean keeps him in the game, and the two make a surprisingly good pair with Jean's natural leadership. Reiner's aviation helment is a deep red with small chainlinks spelling out "Chainmail" above his brow.
---
Jean Kirstein
-Call Sign: "Little John", aka "Horse-Face"
-Position: Radar Intercept Officer (RIO), aka Weapon System Officer (WSO)
-Partner: Reiner Braun
-Style: Jean is one of the best RIOs in Top Gun's flight school. He can stay calm, cool, and collected as he manages the weapons and the incoming bogeys on the screen. He had actually gotten into Top Gun as a pilot, but was told by one of the instructors he had the capability to be a great RIO. Jean's aviation helmet is navy blue, with "Little John" in gold letters running down each side of his head.
---
Porco Galliard
-Call Sign: "Barrow", aka "Pig-Sty"
-Position: Radar Intercept Officer (RIO), aka Weapon System Officer (WSO)
-Partner: Zeke Yeager
-Style: Porco is a RIO for one and one reason only- his brother Marcel had been his pilot before he was tragically killed in a training accident. He is extremely cautious when looking for bogeys and trying to pick MiGs out of the sky. He works well with Zeke and likes to stick to the rules to avoid more casualties. Porco's helmet is pink and mostly black, with "Barrow" across his brow.

Starlander and Homie for shipping ask game :)
Ship both. LBR I’ll ship HL with a shipping crate. [meme template]
Tumblr media
Starlander: I ship it 7/10 enthusiasm
What made you ship it? Not the elevator choking scene, which is I think most people’s gateway. Not the Supersonic corpse rooftop scene, which was creepy AF and almost makes me unship it. I got a tiny vibe at “hands in the air like you just don’t care” but it really escalated in season 3 when they were forced to be co-captains, he tried to be an asshole and force her into a PR relationship as revenge for the injury to his ego, but then got taken aback when she played it up like a pro (and in my hc he started to have hopes because he’s a sad lonely old man)
What are your favorite things about the ship?
I like enemy pairings, and Starlander certainly fits that mold, with plenty of tension and antagonism.
@arealtrashact ‘s fanart.
Noncon fics where she’s abused and that’s good for angst.
Fics where she takes charge and makes him her bitch which I enjoy even more.
Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship? Probably not unpopular but the age difference and the fact that he referred to her as “young lady” and used to talk to her like he’s her dad (and not in a sexy way) early on is sketchy AF. Also the fact that there might be real person fodder BTS is sketchy AF too lol.
Tumblr media
Homie: Lol, I ship it. But maybe like 3/10 enthusiasm. But it’s the only Hughie pairing I read.
What made you ship it? Hughie being able to act convincingly gay while blackmailing Ezekiel makes it plausible Butcher would make him hook up with HL as part of some crazy scheme. The fact that he’s part of the tripleteam in the herogasm fight was the closest thing to actual canon support 🤣
What are your favorite things about the ship? The contrast between Hughie being very normal and wholesome, without too many complexes versus… whatever the hell is going on in HL’s psyche. Homelander’s utter disdain for Hughie, which makes the pairing funnier. I’m actually not a fan of the darkfics for this pairing, and prefer the lighter, crackier ones.
Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship? This is one of the few HL pairings where I think I can only stomach Top the Homelander|John. Truly a rarity. I prefer not to have Butchie as a backdrop, which I think is an unpopular opinion.

Prehistoric Porky is a fascinating short because it came out the same year as Disney’s Fantasia, which has a dinosaur-themed segment (some of the same species can be found in both) and comparing their takes on dinosaurs is really fascinating. I wonder if Clampett’s portrayal of the Tyrannosaurus rex as a snivelling, easily-disposed-of coward was making fun of how Disney’s tyrannosaur (which he might’ve known about from promotional material) was portrayed as an invincible menacing threat.
I LOVE Prehistoric Porky!! i think it’s one of the last truly great B&W Clampett Porkys and certainly packs everything i love about Clampett’s early pig into one short: naive, funny, and at times condescending but from a place of innocence which makes it funnier. John Carey’s sequence of Porky hunting the leopard kitten is one of my favorites examples of his work, i’m actually surprised i haven’t posted the whole thing (will rectify that shortly)
YOU MAKE A REALLY INTERESTING POINT THOUGH YEAH!! the dinosaur designs are a lot of fun… Warners was certainly no stranger to taking aim at Disney, and Clampett ESPECIALLY has a lot of Disney references—considering he just appropriates Dopey’s gallop from the Heigh Ho sequence in Snow White with Daffy in The Daffy Doc, i definitely wouldn’t be surprised. this is pure speculation too, but i’m sure a part of it could have been to refute the cheesiness of Chuck Jones’ dinosaur in Daffy Duck and the Dinosaur—both shorts have a dinosaur serving as a dog named “Fido”; Jones’ Fido is cute, Clampett’s (or, rather, Porky’s) is ginormous and his tail wagging prompts an earthquake with rocks falling on the heads of dinosaurs LMAO. definitely a contrast

For thw writing meme, how about 2, 4, 7 for Synchronicity? Love that one!
@thetimemoves edited their question: I meant 11, not 7!
Thank you for the ask! This was a fun story to write 💕
2: What scene did you first put down?
My prompt was: What if John and Sherlock already knew each other that day at Barts when Mike Stamford introduced them?
I wrote the meeting at Barts (which I stuck with), but hadn't originally planned on enemies to friends to lovers. I was thinking that they'd been boyfriends and had broken up over some misunderstanding (e.g. Sherlock thinking nobody can love him, breaking up with John "for his own good." But the idea didn't interest me enough to write it when I wrote the first scene.
A year later I had a brainstorm: What if they already hated each other when Mike introduced them?
4: What’s your favorite line of dialogue?
My favorite scene to write was Chapter 3, where John gets so drunk he doesn't even realise Sherlock is seeing him home and thinks he's hallucinating the entire conversation. My favorite line is when John asks Sherlock if he's poisoned him, and Sherlock replies:
“No, you did that. Your liver is not happy about it, either. It takes no leave of you. It sends no compliments to your mother, or father, or brother. You do not deserve such attentions. It is most seriously displeased.” (This is actually a paraphrase of what Lady Catherine DeBourgh says to Elizabeth Bennett in Pride and Prejudice.)
And in that same scene when John asks him why he's talking so much and Sherlock replies:
“Well, you’re not doing so well holding up your side of the conversation. I’ve remarked on vomiting, and mentioned the deplorable dwelling we are now attempting to ascend. You might say something about the carpet, since you were down there on the last landing. That’s having a conversation, Watson. Give and take. I talk, you talk. Though I suspect you were raised by wolves and have no concept of such things. Your manners are tragic. Do make an attempt, though. It’s only civil.” (I guess you can tell that P&P is one of my favorite stories; this was inspired by Elizabeth Bennett's instructions to Mr Darcy on how to have a conversation while dancing.)
There were a lot of Sherlock lines in this story that I cackled over as I wrote them, but this scene in particular.
11: What do you like best about this fic?
Sherlock's character. He's more talkative than most Sherlocks I've written, and funnier. He's desperately trying to get John to like him but hasn't a clue how to do it. His humorous snark turns out to be a survival skill, cultivated at school to keep the popular boys from bullying him.
This Sherlock forced me to write a more assertive, less pathetic John than originally planned, which turned out well, too. John has a lot of biases and is not easily won, and doesn't actually realise when he has fallen for Sherlock. His character grows a lot in the story, from self-loathing to self-confidence.
What worked was these two characters: they are close enough to canon to be believable and feel familiar, but different enough to feel fresh and interesting. I enjoyed writing their dynamic.

Rewatched the Florida arc on The Office w/ husband and oh my god it is truly my favorite string of episodes in this entire series. We just finished After Hours, and as nauseating as the Packer stuff is, please enjoy this list of other things that made us howl, in no particular order.
“What’s in it for GSL?” (Gabriel Susan Lewis, referring to himself in the third person)
“FIVE DOTS?!”
“I would like your oakiest chardonnay.”
“Do you want us to get scolded?!”
really Ryan’s entire terrible attempt to hook up with Erin, culminating in “SIX MONTHS?! ok, I’m in love with Kelly.”
Erin being the cutest she has ever been in pursuit of Forbidden Hotel Waffles. You’re gonna be all right, kid.
UN-BE-LIEV-A-BULL! (which I hated when it first aired, but I’ve come around)
AND OBVIOUSLY, THE ENTIRE JIM/CATHY/DWIGHT/THE HYPOTHETICAL BEDBUGS SUBPLOT THAT IS THE REASON I LOVE IT SO:
+ Jim dying from fear of confrontation and his desperate attempts to make a third party intervene (Hey Stanley! Hey buddy! Good to see you! Let’s hang out! All of us, together, in here, because there is definitely no need for me to be alone with Cathy in this room with a bed NO WAIT COME BACK)
+ JIM, that is SO RUDE that you would accuse me of hitting on you, GOD! Now shut up and let me fall asleep on your shoulder, like any normal colleagues who aren’t attracted to each other would do (sidebar: actually, hold up, did she see the season 1 tapes??).
+ I still can’t watch the “SO smug” bedbug imitation without mentally replaying the gag reel version where John & Rainn keep cracking up trying to get through it.
+ Favorite scene I can’t believe they deleted, in which Pam teases Jim about Cathy and he does indeed look really cute while being embarrassed. I still can’t believe there was ever even the idea of really having Jim kiss Cathy in this ep. Like. This is so much funnier in every way??
P.S. Pam is so pretty in this episode. Every single time I see it, I have the exact same thought process about how unbelievably gorgeous she looks. Her hair is golden and perfectly styled and her outfit looks great on her; I dunno, she just glows.

Space Ghost Week
Wherein we cover an entire season of Space Ghost Coast to Coast over the course of a week
Tumblr media
Space Ghost Coast to Coast #52: “Suckup” | November 21, 1997 | S04E19
The ironic and self-aware insincerity of John Henson and the non-ironic and non-self-aware insincerity of Bob Goen in one show? Where do I sigh up?
This episode has Space Ghost shamelessly sucking up to big-time TV personalities in order to trade up his current hosting gig. The show starts fairly strong with the actual good guest, John Henson. He applies a fairly light touch to his interview, but it’s the one that cuts together in a funnier way, in my opinion. The Bob Goen interview’s main joke is they have him misidentify Moltar for Space Ghost, making him look like a bit of a boob. It’s nothing severe, but he was probably too much of a pro to give them much to work with comedically.
I have an affinity for John Henson, especially his tenure on Talk Soup. A lot of people try to do similar sarcastic shtick as a TV host and few pull it off as well as he does. He’s also the right combo of goofy-looking and genuinely handsome. I didn’t get E! When I was a kid, but somehow my mom discovered this show and had our grandmother (who lived one town over) tape the entire week’s worth of shows and my mom would take them home and watch them over the weekend. A lot of times the family would congregate around her Talk Soup viewing sessions. I still remember my mom laughing at something caustic he said, though I forget what, and exclaiming “god, he’s so funny!”.
This one includes Brak, who nearly perishes in a gravy flood. It’s funny when you realize how little Brak actually had to do with Space Ghost Coast to Coast. I think I made this point elsewhere, but his perceived ubiquity on this show has way more to do with Cartoon Planet than it does Space Ghost Coast to Coast. Most of his character development occurs off Space Ghost and on Cartoon Planet, making it slightly essential? At the very least, it deserves to be a footnote.
This one is sorta mid, but has plenty of bright spots. The throw to commercial in this one is so funny. A bee shows up in the studio and Space Ghost freaks out and John Henson yells “oh no!” with a sarcastic kind of glee. It’s such a great moment, and moments exactly like this define Space Ghost’s humor perfectly. I think I actually remembered this entire episode being good based on this single bit. So funny.
MAIL BAG
what's your favorite cookie? and wheer do you get your favorite cookies
Um! GOSH. I would have to say that given the consistency in which I’ve craved/bought/consumed them, it’s probably Nilla Wafers. I get them from the store, and I tell them “Nilla Wafers please!”, sometimes “Nilla please” for short.

a/n: had this in the drafts since tfatws finished streaming and I forgot to post it but here haha
18+
Warnings: Weed, mentions of alcohol, mentions of sex
Smoke sesh with Marvel characters 🍃
this one is for all my stoner marvel fans💕 just my thoughts on what it would be like to smoke with some of our favs✨
———————————————————————
Steve
Well considering Steve is a super soldier, he can’t get drunk or high..........BUT for the sake of this let’s just pretend he can ;)
It would probably take loads of convincing for him to even try the stuff
If he decides to try it, he’s only taking one hit.
High Steve is definitely just super chill, and really cuddly, he’s gonna grab you and just hold you for the rest of the night.
When it comes time for munchies he will literally eat anything, but his favorite snack when the munchies hit is Mozzarella sticks.
He’ll start talking about how things were back in the 40’s, including how crazy the youth is today with this stuff you’ve just given him.
Tony
We all know that Tony is KNOWN for being a party animal, so he’s definitely down for a lil sesh with the avengers
Tony definitely likes to drink more then he would smoking, but he’ll still smoke.
Probably owns a dab pen with indica for for his anxiety
Prefers indica but will settle for a hybrid (sativa and indica)
Gets really giggly and even more sarcastic when he’s high
Will not move from his current place of rest, someone will have to bring him food when the munchies come or he will complain the entire time
Favorite munchies food is potato chips
High tony will definitely accidentally start spilling your secrets in front of people, you might have to physically shut him up somehow
Thor
Will give you a funny look when you hand him a joint or a pen or whatever it is that your using.
He’ll understand that you smoke it, but he’ll think it’s just tobacco or something
Before you can tell him what it actually is he’s already taken a couple of big hits
Once you tell him what it is that he’s smoking and what it does, the only response you’ll get is “this tastes funny and it will have no effect on me because I am mighty”
Fast forward to ten minutes later of Thor being loud and laughing at everything and just being an absolute goofball
Will eat and drink everything in sight once the munchies hit for him
“Where can I get more of this midgaurdian herb!??!!?!!” He’ll yell from the couch
Like Steve, he’ll get grabby and just wanna hold you the entire time. If you’re standing he’s gonna stand behind you with his arms wrapped around you and his chin resting on ur head. If you’re sitting he’s putting his arm around you and pulling you close.
Definitely ends with him passed out on the floor
Natasha
When she sees everyone playing “puff puff pass”, she’ll roll her eyes.
“What are you guys in high school or something?”
She will insist that she wants nothing to do with it, but after tony makes some remark about it, she decides to prove him wrong.
After a hit or two, Nat becomes more comfortable, she becomes less uptight.
Likes to shoot out more sarcastic one liners then usual
Becomes very flirty ;)
She gets smiley but in a tired way
In fact, She doesn’t stay awake very long after she’s had a hit or two in her system, she gets too tired and calls it a night
By “calls it a night” I mean she basically droops onto you and refuses to move, you’ll have to move her if you want to.
Doesn’t get the munchies because she’s asleep before she can
Clint
Clint will take a hit or two, just because why not? He could use the relaxation
He’s super chill when he’s high, he keeps to himself
He’s quiet when he’s high, but that’s just because he’s vibing, he’s taking in the music or just simply listening to the nearest conversation.
Wears sunglasses the whole time because he doesn’t want anyone to see his red eyes
He doesn’t really get munchies, he just chills the entire time
You can’t tell if he’s asleep or if he’s just vibing
Will only give one word answers if you ask him something
Not the most fun to smoke with but he’s just chilling and minding his own business so he’s welcome.
Loki
Will look at you with irritable confusion when you offer him a hit
When you tell him what it is and what it will do to him he’ll simply ask, “why would I want to do that?”
He won’t do it in front of anyone, that would mean letting his guard down and becoming vulnerable
He will definitely try it later in private though
When he’s high, he’ll want you to join him
He’s still basically loki when he’s high, he’s just more relaxed
“This is quite nice I must say.”
There will definitely be a conversation about how he can’t believe this is what mortals do for fun
He’ll become a little more open with you because he’s more relaxed
He’ll become confused when the munchies hit, but after you tell him it’s normal he’ll go with it
His favorite munchie food is definitely popcorn
I’m gonna flat out say it, high loki has a higher sex drive
Gets lost in the moment type of guy
In his opinion, the weed helps him block out everything else except for you, and that’s why he likes it
His mischief meter also skyrockets, you thought normal loki was good at pulling tricks? Just wait till you see how creative high loki can get
Bucky
Bucky is gonna look at you like your crazy
Then he’ll remember that he is also crazy, and figures the weed might help ease his mind a little.
Bucky becomes more relaxed when he’s high, his guard has dropped a little, but he’s still aware of his surroundings.
He’s funnier when he’s high
Smiles more which makes you smile because you think he doesn’t smile enough
He still does the staring thing when he’s high, but it’s not as intimidating now, there’s a softer look in his eyes and a small smile on his face
Will open up a little more about his feelings towards you
After his first time trying weed, he’ll get some cbd gummies or something on a regular basis to help relax him
When the munchies hit for him, he’ll eat anything, but his favorite munchie food is anything Italian.
He just wants to cuddle man
Wanda
Wanda is surprisingly chill
She’s more open, more humorous, and even nicer.
her magic can resemble her current state of mind if she wants it to
So when she’s high, her magic becomes really pretty and elegant, like it’s in slow motion
In fact, she glows a little when she’s high
She’ll make her magic do pretty things for your entertainment
Due to her magic though, I feel that her high wouldn’t last very long
For her, smoking is just a quick little get away from her mind, something that just takes the edge off a little
Doesn’t get munchies
Prefers indica
Peter (quill)
He’s never had earth weed, but he’s definitely smoked and drank all kinds of substances through out the galaxy
Definitely likes sativa
He’s down for whatever, he likes to try new things
He’ll complain about the taste, but then love the way he’s feeling in 10 minutes
He becomes very stupid when he’s high
He’ll turn his favorite music on full volume and just start doing things, he won’t be able to sit still.
He’ll try to do things to keep himself entertained, but he’ll be bad at doing them because he’s high
When later or the next day comes when he’s sober, he’ll look at the evidence of him trying to do whatever it was he was trying to do and be totally confused, but not surprised
When the munchies hit, he’ll eat anything he can find on the ship that’s edible
It will end with him passed out in some weird spot on the ship or wherever he’s at
He once got high and woke up cuddling with Drax-
Gamora
Will not smoke
The designated driver
The “chaperone” of the night
Sam Wilson
When you offer him a hit, he’ll be unsure and say something like “man I haven’t done something this stupid since high school, I don’t know”
But he says “screw it” to himself and takes a couple of hits
Becomes really smiley when he’s high, like the dude won’t stop smiling. It irritates Bucky.
Definitely will start singing out of nowhere, even if there’s no music playing
He’s also gonna tell crazy stories about his past, things from high school stories to military stories
He livens up the session for sure, after a few hits in, he makes it his goal for the night to make everyone happy and vibing along with him
When the munchies hit for sam, he goes straight for pizza. This man absolutely loooovesss pizza when he’s inebriated
Dr.Strange
Is obviously familiar with the substance
Definitely used to do it all the time in college (helped with the stress of med school)
Will question if it’s the best choice for everyone to be making right now
Most likely will not do it, it wouldn’t look good if the sorcerer supreme was getting high
You’ll ask him if he knows some kind of spell that can sober you up
He’ll tell you “yes” and proceed to hand you a water bottle and roll his eyes
He’ll do the portal thing above you and a bunch of your favorite snacks will land on your lap when the munchies come
He’ll take care of you once you pass out, carrying you to your bed or your couch or whatever and setting a glass of water near you before he leaves you alone
Scott Lang
Oh yeah, he’s definitely taking a couple hits
Prefers bongs
Prefers hybrid blends (sativa and indica)
This man knows his kush okay? Would not be surprised if he had a plug, or if he was the plug
Weed makes him more productive, he’ll start doing things and multi tasking, he’ll do anything from messing around in the suit to playing rock band
Chinese take out is this mans go to munchie food, nothing brings him greater joy then inhaling wonton soup or lo mein when he’s high
He’s bringing his friends too, there’s no arguing
Like Sam, he livens the session up
Somehow become bolder, dumber and flirty at the same time when he’s high
When he comes down though, he comes down hard, and sometimes literally.
He’ll pass out or fall asleep in the weirdest places, but he’ll be enjoying it and wake up feeling well rested somehow
Bonus cuz i think it’s funny ++
John walker
Will be all cocky about taking a hit, thinking it won’t affect him or that it’ll make him cooler or something dumb
Gets scared and paranoid
Starts literally tweaking and saying stuff like “they’re coming for me”
Freaks out because he can’t handle the kush in his system
Definitely locks himself in the bathroom and cries, calls Lamar to come pick him up
Ends up becoming a hazard for everyone, so Bucky has to knock him out cold
Will probably snitch on everyone for smoking just because he had a bad time with it and he’s just jealous that he can’t vibe correctly

Except maybe when faced with a smiling Consulting Detective.
The Perfect Place by SilverSmile (K+, 1,955 w., 1 Ch. || Humour, Romance, 5 and Ones, Fluff, Experiments, Bed Sharing) – Sherlock attempts to find the perfect place to sleep, but his little experiment proves to be far more difficult than expected.

Spilt Milk by Erin Giles (K+, 2,222 w., 1 Ch. || Humour, Friendship, Hurt/Comfort) – John comes back from a trip to the supermarket only to take a trip up the stairs. Both shopping and blood are spilled leaving Sherlock to play the role of Doctor.
A Study in Lace by KarlyAnne (E, 2,320 w., 1 Ch. || Established Relationship, Crafty Sherlock, Tiny Lace Panties / Lingerie, Domestics, Experiments, Oral, Masturbation) – “Why do you suppose he was doing that?” “Why do I suppose who was doing what?” “The room. The lace. The secrecy. He was playing with fire in everything he did, and didn’t care one bit. But he had a secret chamber, carefully concealed, solely for the purpose of making lace lingerie. Obviously for personal use. Why?“ Part 1 of The Unintentional Crafts of Sherlock Holmes

Manipulation by sixbynine (K+, 2,566 w., 1 Ch. || Experimenting John, Reverse Psychology) – John Watson is not as unobservant as Sherlock thinks, nor is he above using what he knows. Even if it is just to make sure Sherlock eats and sleeps.
Not Rocket Science by Nitrospira (T, 2,571 w., 1 Ch. || Drama, Humour) – Sherlock and John Watson are handcuffed to a bed while investigating a double homicide on the International Space Station. But Sherlock isn’t sure which is more tedious: a killer on the loose or John’s endless complaints.
Nothing Left Untouched by ForeverShippingJohnlock (K+, 2,617 w., 1 Ch. || Friendship, Romance, Bed Sharing, Oblivious Sherlock, Anxious/Worried Sherlock, Grumpy John, Fluff and Cuddles) – Sherlock rearranges the flat. So what if John’s bedroom is now a research library. It’s not like John needs a bedroom, he can share with Sherlock. They’re friends and John has obviously slept in close quarters with men before and it’s not like Sherlock sleeps much anyway. It’ll be fine.
Insomnia by TheSingingGirl (K+, 2,635 w., 1 Ch. || Friendship, Humour, Bed Sharing, Sleepy Sherlock) – Sleep is merely the next frontier in what has become the battle to keep Sherlock alive. It’s because of this that John ends up in bed with a sociopath.

I put forth for your consideration that the notion persists because those who think about these things realize these two men are each in dire need of some good company.
Bored Games by patster223 (K+, 2,769 w., 1 Ch. || Cluedo / Board Games, Friendship, Humour) – Sherlock is bored and John decides that they should play Cluedo. In retrospect, it was a truly awful decision.

John must be with him, because he will have to record the performance. Sherlock takes the task very seriously. Part 20 of The English job

Because you’re a good friend.” “I am a good friend!” Sherlock agreed.
All in a Day by chappysmom (K+, 2,920 w., 1 Ch. || Kidnapping, Sherlock POV,  Humour, Light Angst, BAMF John) – Oddly enough, it seemed like this time, Sherlock had been kidnapped for no other reason than to pressure John. In other words, this had nothing to do with him. Really, this on top of the blow to the head was enough to make him dizzy.
33 by Indigo Blue.x (K+, 2,936 w., 1 Ch. || Humour) – “I haven’t made a zombie,” Sherlock says scathingly, which would be more convincing if there were not a zombie in the flat.
Right Foot Red by Irrevocably_Sherlocked (E, 3,089 w., 1 Ch. || First Kiss/Time, Board Games, Frottage, Masturbation, PWP, Friends to Lovers, Come as Lube, Come Marking) – …ok, it’s juvenile, but at least it’s a game where touching is allowed. And if something more were to happen, well, John can’t say he’d be too upset about that. “What are the rules of this game?” Sherlock asks, the disdain evident on the word ‘game’. “I spin, you do as I say.” John thinks he sees a slight widening of those pale grey eyes at that, just for a fraction of a second, before it is shut down. Oh, this is interesting, he thinks.
The Sweetest Taste In The World by crossroads (G, 3,121 w., 1 Ch. || First Kiss, Jealous Sherlock, Fluff, Pining, Friends to Lovers) – The sweetest taste in the world is rarely ever the easiest to come by.

Jukebox by standbygo (T, 3,990 w., 1 Ch. || Fluff, Singing/Music, Sherlock’s Mind Palace, Hurt/Comfort, Humour, Friends to Lovers, First Kiss) – After the music halls of Sherlock’s mind palace get damaged by accident, John learns that Sherlock never forgets a song. Even the ones he’d rather forget. But the random singalong brings some unexpected benefits.

having a brave new world special interest is a Time. you see all these conservative fuddy duddies try to be like “this is why we should [insert thing that limits personal freedom]” OR the same mediocre quote about god and sin over and over just. bossbabes. it’s about late-stage capitalism, classism, showing a mirror version of morals at the time in some ways, mechanization and industrialism and the unintended consequences of those things. it’s about (i hate to use the word but i’m not sure what else would be accurate other than american, but it was written by a british dude about his society and is likely relevant in europe as well, plus other places?? i guess “western society” but that doesn’t really mean anything though it does have a sort of set meaning in philosophy and just. you get my point) taken to the absolute extreme: seeking efficiency and pleasure above all else and justifying it with the veneer of “progress” while actually halting real progress. it is a book Created to piss people off and unnerve them, no matter their social or political beliefs, and the fact that it can still do that roughly 100 years later is impressive to me.
But also, an important thing with the book is that it’s funny. Like, Huxley makes fun of his characters pretty consistently throughout the book and the thing is that none of them are good people. Huxley knows this and wants to make sure you do too. He describes a group of students taking notes at the baby factory and how they are just copying everything the tour guide says unthinkingly and just. One of my favorite lines is
“‘Consider the horse.’
They considered it.” (Pg 14 chapter 1)
which is honestly even funnier in context. Your main characters are a hipster who is sort of “oh, im so much better than everyone else, they don’t understand. this is so sad” who craves depth beyond the shallowness of society, an incel who is an outcast partially because of his own bad attitude and because he feels like he has to compensate for being short but at the end of the day he is still shallow and greedy, a man and woman who are exactly who the society asks them to be pretty much (lots of drugs lots of sex and only caring about themselves really. not much going on upstairs as well), and an emo theater nerd who read shakespeare instead of having friends and who doesn’t Really understand shakespeare but thinks it sounds nice.
also the villain (other than like. society ig) is probably one of my favorite characters of all time: Mustapha Mond. Unlike in 1984 and a lot of other dystopian books, he actually has reasons beyond “i work for the society :)” for being evil and for perpetuating society. I don’t want to spoil it in case people read the book, i may make a separate post just about mustapha mond bc i have brainrot, but his story is a tragedy. yes he is a villain, but he is also very much a human and has been harmed by the society as much as the main characters who are suffering (helmholtz, bernard marx, and john). also unlike other dystopian books, mond presents his perspective and in all honesty? had you not seen what the consequences of a society based on those ideal is, with some of what he says, it feels like he actually has a point. however, the counterpoint to it is other events and aspects of the society that are explored earlier in the book, and how terrible it can be. the conversation that takes place in chapters 16 and 17 is one of my favorite pieces of literature.
im gonna put together a sort of content warning guide to the book to make it more accessible bc yes part of its thing is to shock and disgust people in some parts, but also i want the interesting philosophical stuff to be accessible to people without risk of hurting oneself

Death Note as Stand-Up Comedians
Tumblr media
Mello
- he’s allowed to complain about Near in front of an auditorium full of people as long as it’s in the form of a joke — of course he loves it.
- He has a lot of passion up on stage. The audience loves it because it makes them feel really immersed into the show.
- Mello has a tendency to get really loud when he gets really into a joke or bit, so the tech crew has gotten used to lowering the volume on his mic as the show progresses and he gets louder and louder.
- Mello has a harsh sense of humor, often using exaggerations and sarcasm to accentuate a point.
- He would tell stories from his time at Wammy’s house, mainly the chaos moments with Matt because the rest is pretty traumatizing for him.
- It’s his style that draws people in and his sense of humor that keeps them there. He has a very unique clothing style and, even when his managers suggested he dress down for the show as to not scare people away, he refused. He said that he would rather show who he is upfront and let the public decide whether or not to invest time in him than fake his personality for people he doesn’t know or give a shit about. They got the hint pretty quickly after that.
- He would sometimes do joined shows with Matt, which is quite interesting. Their dynamic works perfectly on stage and they even weave jokes that weren’t scripted into the show to keep each other on their toes.
Matt
- He’s a pretty chill guy, so I picture his sense of humor as pretty dry. Not in a bad way, of course. For instance, he tends to say the most hilarious things with a straight face and flat tone, which somehow makes the joke even funnier.
- He likes to involve the audience a lot, so gags where he (with permission) takes an audience member’s phone and reads their texts aloud are common. Somehow he can make jokes about the most mundane of text conversations and have the audience howling.
- Like I mentioned earlier, he and Mello’s contrasting senses of humor work for a perfect dynamic when performing, so shows where they’re together are the audience’s favorite. But even though Mello’s wild passion can take the spotlight at times, Matt is never overshadowed as they’re both sure to include the other in any bit or joke they do.
- For no reason at all I think Matt it great at imitations and impressions of different people. So, like when he’s doing a bit and speaking for someone else he can assign voices for everyone and the audience knows who he’s supposed to be speaking as in that moment. Usually these people are only known to him and Mello, so the audience can’t tell how exactly spot on he is. His impression of Near gets Mello wheezing, and his Mello impression gets the audience wheezing with Mello constantly claiming “I don’t sound like that, idiot!” With the audience shouting “YES YOU DO!”
L
- L’s sense of humor tends to require a specific taste, which is why he would probably be one of the least successful of the bunch.
- Don’t get me wrong, his sense of humor is adorable and one of the best aspects of Death Note in my opinion, but it comes in short and random bursts. He’d be talking about something serious and then crack a joke (“yEs tHat mUst Be dArK”), so it requires patience to really get to his sense of humor.
- The audience, I feel, wouldn’t have the patience to stick around and wait for his humor to surface.
- But L would have a cult following of a specific group of people that appreciate his talents.
- I’m picturing a show in which he starts off by talking about some cases, and transition to jokes from there. Due to his occupation, many jokes involve a darker sense of humor but also contain surprisingly innocent little remarks or comments. I can’t really explain it better, it makes sense in my head but I’m not too sure how to put it into words.
- Most of the show he keeps his straight face, but when he gets the audience going from something he said he can’t help but crack a little smile and chuckle into the mic pretty bashfully.
Near
- I’m sorry but Near doesn’t have too much of a sense of humor. But he does do or say some of the most hilarious shit on accident.
- It was actually Halle that convinced him to take up stand up comedy, as she got to spend tons of time just sitting and talking with him, cracking up at something Near said while he just stared at her in confusion.
- She had complete and total confidence that just plopping Near on stage and telling him to “just talk” would get the audience going, so she took him to a bar that did stand up comedy nights. Near absolutely killed it.
- Eventually he learns what the public finds funny through experimentation and tells those kinds of jokes more often, learning to perfect his craft. Through this method he is able to go from ‘accidentally funny’ to ‘intentionally hilarious’.
Light
- I wholeheartedly believe that Light has no sense of humor. Period.
- Sure, he’s accidentally funny sometimes but not enough to fake it ‘til he makes it like Near did.
- So he gets someone else to write his show for him. He’s just a pretty face, and the person who wrote his show is mentioned once or twice but who really cares about them? It’s Light who’s doing all the work, obviously. He’s the one getting sweaty up on stage.
- Honestly he barely has a sense of humor he’s probably just do it as a side thing for recognition or like most youtubers who write a book or start a podcast.
Matsuda
- Okay so, I definitely think that Matsuda would be one of the most successful stand up comedians out of all of them.
- He’s just so bubbly and kind and just genuinely a wonderful person so who could walk out of a show if his unsatisfied? No one. That’s who.
- My mans here has the opportunity to make so many self deprecating jokes due to how the task force treats him and how he’s just overall looked at as inferior to everyone he works with. And guess what? He doesn’t take that opportunity at all. He thinks self worth is the most important thing in the world and instead focuses his jokes around break room stories and observations of every day life.
- However if he ever does make a self deprecating joke, it’s never with any hatred towards himself. Like, he’ll joke about how his recklessness got him in trouble with Yotsuba, but instead of cursing the trait he has, he always expresses his hopes to get better and learn from his mistakes. Meanwhile the audience is dying at how he tells the story with so much energy and just— ...he’s wonderful.
- He just reminds me of John Mulaney when I picture a show of his.
- He’s pretty goofy by nature and you can tell that he’s enjoying himself up on stage, watching him laugh at his own jokes and beam at the audience with a smile so bright it could rival the spotlight shining down on him.
- He also really likes the attention, having been pushed to the side for so long.
- He’s just overall a really nice and positive guy while also being hilarious to listen to. 10/10.
Misa
- With her already existing music career and fashion career, people know her pretty well. Therefore, there is a HOARD of people waiting to see how she fairs at something so different from her previous career paths.
- And y’know what? Misa’s great at it.
- I’d like to imagine she’s out of her terrible relationship with Light in this au and realize how messed up he was, so I think she’d do a lot of clowning Light in her shows.
- She will kinda mix the comedy with valuable life lessons on relationships, so a lot of fans come up to her and thank her because they let their kids watch her shows and they’ve learned so much from her while being entertained for a good hour.
- Also her voice is so cute and pleasant to listen to I would gladly listen to her talk for a week let alone an hour.
- I imagine her style of show and humor to be along the lines of straight up ranting and just talking her heart out. You know that friend that can talk for hours but it’s okay because they make everything, even the most mundane things, sound dramatic and fun and lively? Yeah, that’s her.

Top 5 Reasons Doug’s Pretty Great
It’s hard to believe that it’s been nine years since the first episode of S1 was released. I can still remember be a wee little lass first discovering it on youtube and becoming obsessed. At the time, I had no where to play it myself, so I watched as many playthroughs as I could until my family got an xbox.
While the first episode in this series has a lot of memorable moments, the one that always stands out in people’s memories is the moment where you’re trying to escape the drugstore as walkers pound away at the door and windows, and you realize that both Carley and Doug need your help or they’re going to die.
But... you can only save one, and whoever you don’t help, they end up being eaten alive by walkers and you get to feel bad about it for the rest of the episode.
I bring this up because it’s interesting to look back nine years ago and see that... well, not a lot of people saved Doug. Which is crazy, because now the stats are pretty 50/50 with Doug even having a bit of an edge over Carley. That definitely wasn’t the case back then because the stats were more along the line of 20/80.
Why? Well, the writer’s didn’t exactly do the best job of showing how great Doug is in ep1, especially compared to Carley who has more interactions with Lee and more screen time.... which is even funnier because they did actually think they did a good job and were surprised by the results after the episode’s release.
Even back then they had a habit of making imbalanced routes then denying the imbalance... something they never grew out of.
I guess they were a little butthurt about it since Doug is a favorite among the team given that he’s actually based on a real person, Doug Tabacco, an IT guy they worked with. This got to the point where Telltale never missed an opportunity to tell everyone to #SaveDoug over Carley.
I also love that they use the Stranger to guilt trip everyone who saved Carley by having him be like, “Doug was in a worse position! >:( You only saved Carley because she was a pretty girl!!” just.... real subtle, guys haha
Now, I’ll be the first to admit that more often than not, I choose to save Carley over Doug for many reasons, but that doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate Doug and enjoy having him around in the off chance I do save him. So I thought it’d be fun to talk about Doug as a character and why he was pretty great as a little tribute, y’know?
5. Doug’s a pretty funny dude
Tumblr media
Now, I wouldn’t exactly call twdg a comedy, y’know? It gets dark, then manages to get even darker at times, but if the game was nothing but doom and gloom, it’d get boring and become unenjoyable.
While other characters do get a laugh out of me from time to time, I enjoy the humor that Doug brings to the group, even if it’s not intentional and just the way he is.
Even from the beginning, Doug had me chuckling with the fact that this nerdy dude didn’t want to bring profanity to Lee’s ears when talking about Larry, so he’s just like “ He's kind of a dick... pardon my french,” like Doug.... it’s okay, you can call him an asshole, no one will judge hahaha.
Then there’s the biscuit scene that I think we all know and love. Helps break the tension of meeting these weirdo’s who own a dairy and are totally not suspicious or anything.
But it’s not even just that Doug is funny, he’s also a character that gets you to crack a smile when he’s talking about something he’s passionate about, or when he’s proud of the alarm he rigged up, or when he’s being adorably awkward.
One of my favorites is in ep3 when Lee goes to ask Doug if he has any chalk, and he goes into this spiel about charcoal-- “You know, a piece of charcoal is a suitable alternative, depending on your marking surface. Since we're on the subject, did you know that while chalk is traditionally known to be calcium carbonate, what's often used in classrooms is actually made of gypsum, thanks to favorable domestic mining conditions?”
And Lee’s response is just-- “Doug, I did not know that.”
“Happy to be of service.”
It’s just really funny... and it makes you feel better after all the implications about Doug’s mental health in the episode... like you gave him a moment to flex his knowledge and get excited about it.
But yeah, what can I say? Doug makes me laugh and he brings a bit of light to the groups constant shitshow.
4. Doug saved the group’s ass at the St John farm
Tumblr media
And he did so with a laser pointer.
I always hate it when Doug/Carley leave the group at the St Johns and remain absent for most of the episode, though I chalk that up to the writers trying to make the different routes easier on themselves, y’know?
But, at least they come back to save the day.
In Doug’s case, he’s not comfortable with guns like Carley is, so he’s gotta get creative when it comes to getting Lee’s attention and stopping Andy from hurting Duck and Lee.
That’s where his fancy little laser pointer comes in.
We first see him with it during the walk to the farm, but then see it in action after Lee escapes the barn and is nearly blinded by the light. Doug claims he was doing morse code before Lee tells him and Ben that these assholes cut off Mark’s legs and tried to feed them to the group.
Now, here’s the thing... If Doug and Ben had done what they were told and stayed at the motor inn over night, things probably wouldn’t have turned out so good for the group. Doug is the one who shines the laser pointer in Andy’s eyes when he’s got ahold of Duck, giving Lee the advantage of attack. Without that, if Lee tried anything, he would’ve ended up like dingdong Kenny with a bullet in his side.
Also there’s just a lot of bravery from Doug, y’know? Like as soon as he finds Lee and knows the situation, the first thing he asks is what can they do to help, and he sticks around to do what he can.... even if it is just to point a laser in someone’s eye.
No one gives Doug enough credit for savin’ the day, y’know? And if you have any doubt, even Lee says, “I never thought a laser pointer would be the thing that saved our lives.”
3. Doug’s friendship with Lee
Tumblr media
Speaking of Lee, his friendship with Doug is underrated. The two have chemistry and work off each other well in the scene’s they’re in. While it’s not as strong as Carley’s in ep1, saving Doug and having around in ep2 & ep3 lets you see it at it’s best, y’know?
After Lee saves his life at the drugstore, Doug is shown to mourn Carley and asks Lee why he would pick him, lamenting that he wished he had picked her over him and you can tell that Doug feels that he owes Lee a lot for saving him. Hell, he even says as much when Lee tries to give him food in ep2-- “Why don't you keep my share today. I know I said it didn't matter why you saved me and not Carley, but... I owe you a lot more than half a day's rations."
Also, I love this one line from Kenny when you’re on bad terms with him and they’re talking about going separate ways where he’s basically like “We all know Doug’s gonna stay with you because you saved him that ONE time >:(” and on top of it being such a bitchy Kenny line, it also shows that every can see that Doug is a loyal friend to Lee and would want to stick with him where ever he decides to go.
One thing that I think people tend to overlook, though, is how concerned Lee is with Doug’s mental health in ep3. There are implications that Doug might be suffering with depression due to the situation of the walkers, bandits harrassing and threatening them, and believing that he isn’t useful to the group, stating that he feel pretty worthless. Lee asks Clementine if he seems sad, and hell, he even talks to Lilly about it.
In fact, speaking of Clementine, Doug is real sweet with her, too. Of course, he gives her those batteries for her walkie, but he also asks about how she’s doing as they’re leaving the dairy. Hell, 8 years later, Clementine still remembers him by name and how sweet he was when fucking dingdong Lilly can’t remember his damn name. That says a lot.
Y’all know how important Clementine is to Lee, so he wouldn’t have grown as close to Doug if he wasn’t a genuinely good person who treated Clementine with kindess.
I dunno, there’s a lot of trust and care between the two and it’s a relationship that I truly love. I just wish we could’ve seen a bit more of it but y’know...#2 happened.
2. Doug saved Ben’s life
Tumblr media
Yeah, I think we all saw this coming...
Look, doesn’t matter what you think about Ben, okay? Not what we’re talkin’ about. We’re talkin’ about Doug saving Ben’s life, which unfortunately meant ending his own.
Still haven’t forgiven Lilly for this one. Though I’ve always found the difference between Doug and Carley’s death’s interesting. With Carley, Lilly intentionally kills her after Carley tells her off. But with Doug, Lilly was aiming for Ben and even when Doug pulled him out of the way, she still fired the gun... even though she didn’t have a clear shot and ended up hitting Doug.
Then she tries to play it off like it was an accident which, yeah I guess it was but that doesn’t change that you were intending to murder this 6ft tall child.
It’s just... I dunno, man, it’s sad. I always feel more sorrow for Doug’s death, but more anger for Carley’s? Even though both make me angry, it’s just different characters, different things that led to their deaths, different feelings. This is the first real “Fuck you, Lilly” moment for me and she can spend the next 8 years wandering around for all I can.
Doug didn’t deserve this shit.
But, the reason I put this at #2 because it really says a lot about Doug as a character. The second he saw Lilly aim that gun, he yanked Ben out of the way. He could’ve gone into shock, he could’ve just yelled “no!”, or he could’ve gone at Lilly instead.... but no, his first instinct was to grab Ben and move himself in front and it really fucking sucks that that’s what killed him.
And y’know this isn’t the first time Doug has put himself in danger to save someone. I already talked about him saving everyone at the dairy, but can we not forget how he and Carley met? She was gonna get eaten by walkers then our big hero Doug came in and saved her?? Didn’t know her or anything, just saw her and her crew getting attacked and did what he could to save any survivors??
Like... no one talks about that because it’s so played off and never brought up again and I need everyone to remember this, okay?
Doug selflessly putting himself in danger to help those around him? Fantastic. Beautiful. Love that.
1. Look, Doug himself is just #1. His personality, intelligence, everything.
Tumblr media
Wow, Doug’s personality being the #1 reason he’s so great? Who woulda thought?
Well, ME woulda thought because obviously.
Listen... in case you haven’t gather this from the previous four entries, Doug is an intelligent, awkward, caring, selfless, funny, and brave man, okay? He’s likable, he tries his damnedest to pull his weight for the group, he shows actual loyalty and kindness unlike some people, and when he tends to avoid the constant Lilly and Kenny conflicts, he does his best to step in when things take a serious turn, hence the Ben situation.
No to mention the dude is smart.
I mean, he really took a random remote and was like, “Oh it’s universal, let me just program it to work on ALL the random TV’s across the street as a way to distract these walkers!” like dude.... you just know how to do that, huh?
Or his fun little bell trap that alerts the groups of strangers and walkers? Oh, and remember when he fixed the RV by hitting it with a fucking hammer and was like “It works now, drive!”
And have I mentioned that he bested Andy St John with a goddamn laser pointer??
Oh, also wanna add that I really like his voice acting, as well. He’s voiced by Sam Joan, who does a good job at selling Doug’s soft-spoken but intelligent nature, and knows how to pull off “dorky” when needed... and I mean that in a good way, when he’s talking about charcoal Doug is being a dork and I love him.
I mean... what else is there to say?
All that’s left to do is pull a Telltale and--
#SaveDoug
---
Honorable Mentions
-Doug is a pie guy, going off of that time he named all the different kinds of pie he could thing of and I feel that.  -He’s a very fashionable person. I want that weird polar bear deer thing shirt he wears in ep1.  -also, you can’t go wrong with socks and sandals, my dude.  -He had a crush on Carley and honestly, I feel that, too.
---
There it is, there’s my whole thing about Doug. What are your thoughts? When it comes to that choice in ep1 of s1, do you save Doug or do you save Carley? Do you agree or disagree with any of my choices for this list? Or have anything to add? I’m always down to chat.
Have any suggestions for future T5F’s? Feel free to send ‘em in! :D

Being the best friend of the Peaky Blinders headcanons
══════⊹⊱≼≽⊰⊹══════
Tumblr media
Tommy would probably be a difficult best friend to keep in touch with
He is always deep in business so if you were not a part of the Peaky Blinders yourself, it would take long periods of time for you to see each other
When you finally managed to get together for a drink or two though, it would be as if you had never been apart at all
You would both drink and laugh, talk deep and talk light, about everyone and everything. You would want to know how were things going with his family, how were everyone and he would probably be very curious about your life also
He always has a lot on his mind, but he would not find it hard to speak to you and open up even that only for a bit, because he knew you could give him comfort even without knowing the truth behind his plans and living
He loves you with all his heart and want you to stay as far as you can from his way of life and his way of doing business. If he could, he would actually want you to stay away from him, because it would be safer. But he knows you're not letting that happen. You're too stubborn for that
One of the best memories you have together are the ones from his wedding day with Grace
It was an important day to him and you were there, getting to see the passion he had for that woman in his eyes
Later in the party at Tommy's house you drank with John, talked politics with Ada and even shared a dance with Arthur. You liked your best friend's family very much and they were quite fond of you also
As well as Arthur, Tommy asked you to make a speech and Grace was more than happy with it, she was a nice woman
You gave everything you had in those five minute speaking
Tumblr media
Arthur is someone you would love to have around from the moment you two met
He is rough and quite stubborn, but he also has a sweetness that gets to you and makes you warm up to him quite fastly
You became best friend shortly afterwards
From there, you spend all the bloody time together
Some nights you would make bets at who can drink the most in The Garrison, which would always be an enigma to whom would be the winner
In others, you two would meet maybe at your house or his just to talk, really. Just pure, random conversation that always makes you both feel better to get through the week
Patching him up after fights would be quite common
Whenever he is overwhelmed by memories of the war and find himself in a terrible state, his brothers would go to you. They knew you were the one whom Arthur really listened to, even though they were family
In those situations you took care of him, made him talk to get it out of his chest. Hugged him tight like he needed and comforted him with gentle, affectionate words
You defend him when John laughs at his expense, even though it's all a joke
He loves you for that
Tumblr media
You and John are a duo so powerful and bonded that you could often be seen around the betting house
You both joke at everything, really
He is a funny guy and you have a sense of humour quite easy to please, so it would be a instant match
You can often be found drunk together at The Garrison, singing and well, joking around with other people
You resemble each other in quite some aspects so it would be easy for you two to fight now and then
This fights would be hard to watch. Hard stuff would probably be said
But it wouldn't take long for one of you to apologize and you going back to normal
He invites you for all the Blinders's events, because he thinks you make everything funnier and less boring
Your favorite thing to do together is just to find a quiet place somewhere and share a smoke, in silence and peace you both rarely get to have on your rushed days
Tumblr media
Polly doesn't trust people easily
So it would be a long while before she even considered calling you a friend
But with baby steps, good decisions and quite some patience, you manage to make her see that you can be someone that she can rely on
And she does, actually being happy for having found someone loyal and that can really be trusted without having any interests behind the simple reality said
He invites you to her house a lot
Whenever she has a fight with Michael or the boys have done something that got to her nerves or upset her, you're there to listen
She asks your opinon on a lot of things. Even things related to business, things she would not ask anyone else. You love that she trusts you completely
Your friendship is so strong that the Shelby brothers are to say at least, surprised about it
Since they were little they didn't remember Polly having such a close friendship with someone so it was quite strange to them
But you're around so much that in no time they are already greeting you and inviting you to The Garrison later in the evening
When Polly finally got Michael back after all those years, the happiness in her had made you also incredibly happy because you knew how much she missed her children
══════⊹⊱≼≽⊰⊹══════

livewatch thoughts for sga 1x08 (or 09, because the order on my dvds seems to differ from the one on wikipedia), home:
rodney being so sure he can do a very risky but scientifically interesting thing that he doesn’t even deign to acknowledge that it is risky (because he’s the one doing it, so of course it will work, because he believes himself infallible, so basically there’s no risk at all!) is such a warning for things to come (cough-trinity-cough) and it’s not like i think they were intentionally setting up a single season 2 episode already, but it does make me appreciate that we get a whole episode exploring the consequences of this character flaw of his later on.
we can see john thinking for a second while rodney is talking and then he goes “eight hundred and four years” (how long it would take them to get rodney by puddlejumper if he breaks the gate on the fog planet) and that’s our first hint at math nerd john!! beautiful
rodney, talking about travelling 804 years by puddlejumper to come get him: “but you would do that, right?” john: “of course we would.” fjdkf.
ALSO the first time we see john with his brick of a copy of war and peace! many iconic sheppard things contained in these first six and a half minutes of the episode.
same point as the one above but i’m not done yet because he just... thinks he’s so clever for this, gosh. i feel like there’s something to be said here about how this is not at all a fun read (and he’s a very repressed man used to denying himself), and i don’t imagine john has some hidden deep interest in russian literature (i mean, possible, but unlikely), so the actual real point of it is just performance, start to finish. if he ever finishes it, that’s some weird bragging rights, but even better is when, like in this scene, someone catches him at it while he’s reading because they will ask because it’s not a very inconspicuous choice of reading material. and it makes him look smart, potentially, but it’s also a little “look at me! i’m weird and quirky! #sorandom.” (yes, i am diagnosing john with socially awkward lonely teen girl disease because he decided to bring russian classic lit when he moved to another galaxy. i am.)
anyway, here’s his face, now that i’ve spent so many words on this:
Tumblr media
elizabeth giving john a chance to be the one to go home if rodney’s gate project works out (giving him an excuse, even, because she says he’d be the one most qualified to brief general hammond) is both kind, because obviously john entered into the mission very late and he did NOT sign on as military commander fighting wraith, and also extremely silly, for pretty much the same reasons. you found this man in antarctica, elizabeth. he was cut off from earth way before he left the planet.
rodney thinking he commands respect at the sgc and has a bunch of virtues of which “patience” is one is very sweet and very funny and i’m glad ford clearly recognizes it for that. the team bonding and found family of it all is very <3
john talking to teyla: “then there’s all those cool earth things i told you about. football, ferris wheels.” in part this is of course a function of this being a tv show and repeated mentions of the same little detail feeling like a fun callback that ties this moment to previous episodes (which it is and does!!) but in-universe it tickles me how incredibly specific and wildly misleading john’s descriptions are of what earth is like. it is going to be very disappointing when there is not, in fact, a football field full of ferris wheels at the end of every city block.
elizabeth making an argument for a continued presence in the pegasus galaxy is an interesting discussion because on the one hand she’s claiming that they have a responsibility to the people of pegasus after waking up the wraith and on the other she acts like they, the people from earth, are the only ones that could possibly do anything with the ancient technology, like they don’t have a pretty effective gene therapy and could give that to at least some of the people of pegasus, who could then operate atlantis mostly without the earthlings.
god, john getting compliments from general hammond that clearly mean a lot to him, while knowing that’s not actually happening as a viewer, that’s. that’s painful.
rodney coming home and turning on the television is great because a) he moved to another galaxy, possibly never to return, but kept on paying his cable bill? dude. and b) the tv plays something for which the audio is “we are controlling the transmission” and that’s FORESHADOWING. i love this. (of course alternately he did not continue paying for cable but he just doesn’t think about it and so the aliens make his tv work because they don’t know it shouldn’t, but my first interpretation is funnier, so i’m sticking with that.)
the way this contructed reality falls apart and the bits and pieces we as viewers see of where it’s not right is EXCELLENT and john’s undead buddies mitch and dex in particular are a whole eassay on their own, but rodney’s line about the laws of physics having gone out the window and that “it’s like looking through a microscope at a cell culture and seeing a thousand dancing hamsters” is quite possibly my favorite thing here. A THOUSAND. DACING HAMSTERS. so it’s a+ content and would make you go viral in a second on youtube, is what you’re saying, rodney.
fake hammond: “major sheppard seemed uniquely capable of manipulating his own fabricated reality.” john: “when i think about the scenarios i COULD have thought up i’d kick myself.” GOD. lots of john thoughts, lots of fic space.
john: “this isn’t life! what do you want us to do, just pretend?” fjdkfd. okay, so, in a reading of canon in which john is queer man pretending all the time, this is an interesting dialogue snippet.
the discussion at the end honestly makes so little sense (the alien’s like, every time the gate activates some of us die, and the humans are like, hm okay, but we are human and we like living so you should send us back anyway, and the alien is like, okay that’s fair), but i don’t mind in the least. this is such a nice episode and the dilemma they’re faced with feels very star trek to me (vague fog aliens that are never given shape other than fog or a human illusion and a plot that leads to moral questions and a true test of the character and the intentions of humanity? PRECISELY the sweet spot for the tos budget), and i love that.

MOONFALL Review: Master of Disaster Roland Emmerich Has Done It Again
Tumblr media
You always know you’re in for a special kind of treat whenever you sit down for a Roland Emmerich movie. While the general concept of Moonfall might seem to be one of his sillier ideas, there’s also some interesting science fact (sort of) amid the fiction, which I’ll get to much further down this review, while still trying to avoid spoilers.
First, we get a 2011 prologue of Patrick Wilson and Halle Berry’s astronauts Brian Harper and Jocinda Fowler on a mission to repair a satellite above the moon when their space shuttle is struck by a torrent of debris coming from the moon. They barely survive, but Harper is discredited over the incident, despite having landed the shuttle safely. Fast forward ten years and John Bradley’s astrologist Dr. KC Houseman is working as a janitor at the UCal-Irvine, but he uses that job to acquire some data that can confirm his theory that the moon has been shifting out of orbit. Now in a high-ranking position at NASA, Fowler learns about this at the same time, so she has to call upon Harper to help her save the world by returning to space in a now-decommissioned space shuttle.
This should probably be pretty evident, but you’re not going into see a Roland Emmerich expecting high art – expect for Anonymous, which is still one of my favorite movies of his – but he’s just so good at creating movies that are entertaining escapist fare that, at times, might make you ponder what it might be like if something devastating happens to the earth. And yet, Moonfall actually features some of Emmerich’s most-rounded characters, ones you’re just as interested in as the storyline, with none of the actors taking things so seriously, they’re not above a quip or two here or there.
Tumblr media
I’ve long been a fan of Patrick Wilson and Berry is quite good as one of the three key characters, but I think my biggest surprise was John Bradley (who some might know as Samwell from Game of Thrones), who not only instills humor into the movie with his character but also some genuine emotion with his relationship with his dementia-stricken mother, and as the film’s unlikeliest hero.
Then again, there are also more than a few of the hilarious Emmerich “escape scenes” where people are able to outrun an enormous, seemingly impossible to avoid catastrophe. In this case, one of the funnier ones is when Harper, Fowler and Houseman manage to get the space shuttle Endeavour off the launch pad as an enormous “Gravity wave” bears down on them. No, I have no idea if a “gravity wave” is a thing or not. That’s for Neil deGrasse Tyson to ascertain.
Another running subplot involves Harper’s son estranged Sonny (Charlie Plummer) on a side mission to help get Jocinda’s young son to a government safe haven in Colorado along with her Chinese exchange student governess Michelle (Kelly Yu). Michael Peña, who plays the jerk of a husband husband for Harper’s ex-wife, appears the most in this section of the film but doesn’t add as much humor as we know he can from the Ant-Man movies. Blink and you’ll miss Donald Sutherland, who just appears in a single scene.
Granted, there are aspects to the film that will remind some of the (in my opinion) far better Greenland from 2020, which was clearly inspired by Emmerich’s earlier films only with generally better filmmaking and characterization. Moonfall never loses track of the fact that people going to see the movie will want to see some epic-scale destruction, and of course, Emmerich delivers, destroying New York City (again), but in a waythat allows for a funny sight gag or two. (L.A. gets its fair share of destruction as well, so no one can say Emmerich is playing coastal favorites.)
Tumblr media
I do want to get into a little bit of SPOILER territory here, though I’ll try to remain somewhat vague. Are you ready? For a long time, Emmerich was developing a movie called Singularity for Sony Pictures, and I have to assume that some of those ideas became Moonfall, since the reason the moon is out of orbit and heading towards earth involves a MUCH BIGGER idea involving nanobots and A.I. and other science fiction tropes we might have seen in the work of Frank Herbert or Isaac Asimov. Emmerich puts his own personal twist on it, implementing these big ideas in his own inimitable VFX-heavy fashion. I worry some might not like where the movie goes in its last act, which is a shame, since that’s straight-up science fiction world building and where it both diverges and merges with some of Emmerich’s past work.
I’m not expecting critics to suddenly give Emmerich a fair shake, but Moonfall is far better than both 2012 and The Day After Tomorrow, since it feels like more work was put into developing relatable characters despite the over-the-top craziness frequently on display.
In many ways, Moonfall isn’t just another Roland Emmerich disaster flick – it’s more like Roland Emmerich’s answer to 2001: A Space Odyssey.
Rating: 7.5/10

First Viewing
Watched Terminator 2: Judgement Day (1991) for the first time!
I adored it.
It was amazing.
It had a different feel from the first one, cause, to me anyway, the first movie was more horror, while this one was more action.
It was also way funnier.
The visual effects were amazing, especially for the time.  They still look really good.  Some of the stuff I’m still not sure how they did.
~Spoilers under the cut!~
There was much more character development in this movie than the first.  It makes sense, since the first one was less character based than the second.
But it was great!
Miles.  I love Miles.  I got way too attached to Miles.  What a great dude.  He gave up his life’s work for these people that he didn’t know.  I’m so proud of him.  I got so upset when he died.  My younger sister, @icons-of-the-eighties/@chaoticallyrefinednerd/@reckoningbent, has it down to a science.  She says “if it’s a TV show and the person has a family, they’ll live.  If it’s a movie and they have a family, they’ll die”.  Honestly, from the stuff we watch, it’s pretty sound.  Like, next time you watch something and a character dies, pay attention.  It’s not completely accurate, but it’s true more often than not I think.
Also, Miles’ kid trying to protect him, even though Sarah had a gun and already shot Miles was absolutely inspiring and heartbreaking at the same time.  When Sarah broke down and started crying into John’s shoulder, too.  Broke my heart.
The T-1000 was.....really cool.  He was very intimidating, but in a different way from the T-800, which I really liked.  It showed that they’d developed and upgraded.  I thought he was genuinely creepy and scary.  Kudos to Robert Patrick.  He did an excellent job.  I guess he did training with a sprinter on how to run and stuff so he looked smooth while he did it, adding to the ‘next level machine’ feel.  Honestly, he was so unsettling.  Amazing.
Tumblr media
Also, the tricks they used to slip the T-1000 up were so clever.  Using a name that wasn’t actually the dog’s was so clever.
John was, for a kid, pretty good.  He definitely needed to be punched early on, but you can totally see why he’s like that, so the feeling isn’t too strong.  I adored seeing his dynamic with T-800.  They were an excellent duo.  10/10.  The comedy.  He also acted like a kid his age, at least for the most part, which is good.  I really like that you can see the development happening.  You can SEE him becoming the leader he’s supposed to be.  Great character development there.
Tumblr media
Sarah is a queen and we don’t deserve her.  I wanted to slap her a few times, but ya know.  She’s gotta have flaws, right?  But, like John, you understood her problems.  She’s such a strong character.  Her descent into her fury, rage and passion were totally understandable.  She’s very strong, literally and metaphorically, and she’s so independent.  That scene of her breaking out of the psych ward was so cool.  I’m so proud of her for staying strong and not giving in to anything.  Also, her reaction to seeing T-800 was fantastic.  Her literally acknowledging that T-800 was a good Dad is amazing.
Tumblr media
T-800.  A literal sweetheart.  I love him.  He’s so precious.  Great development for him, too!  You can see him learning, which is really neat.  I love that he made sure not to kill anyone after John told him not to.  He was such a cool dude.  I am devastated they killed him.  He was so helpful and kind, which is ironic.  Favorite character.  He was so sick.  Coming out of that building wearing a leather jacket with ‘Bad to the Bone’ playing is the definition of cool.  Seriously.  Look it up.
Tumblr media
The action was so cool and engaging!  Very intense!
The visual effects were phenomenal.  Amazing.  *claps for crew*  Great job, guys.
Soundtrack was awesome, of course.  I liked that the Terminator theme was heroic in this one.  I thought that was a great detail.
Go watch this movie.  It’s amazing.  I guarantee you’ll have a good time.
