Malevolent makes me want to violently BITE at the air while also calmly recommending it to someone I care about.
I never knew one day I would say out loud, with complete seriousness: "Damn, poor little blind English boi ....having to try and understand eldritch horror beyond his comprehension."
"Damn, poor fragmented discarded piece of the Yellow King, not knowing who he is fully except yes he does and he's not sure if he can accept that because in some little almost insignificant way, Arthur's humanity rubbed off on him."
I mean oh my gosh, the literal King in yellow is one of the WORSE fictional eldritch beings ever put to paper. The king of madness and horror so foul...he can kill thousands with a whisper and he couldn't give less of a shit.
And yet...AND YET this mad lad of a podcaster has me in literal tears over his take on this yellow bastard and his English wet rat of a man. I would die for Arthur Lester and Jon friggen doe aka: "The yellow fellow".
Like, they went from the king literally threatening to hurt Arthur constantly to him being upset and pissy for days because Arthur wouldn't let him watch a movie....a god damned MOVIE.
And he was JEALOUS because Arthur was bringing Oscar into their little quest....like he was genuinely so upset he pretended he couldn't find some car keys. Yes I know there was also the pull and the guilt and what not but think about that for a second....he quite literally was willing to let Oscar be turned into a freaks vessel....because he was jealous and hurt.
Arthur is such a stupid bastard too...I love him. Bro was scared of the fucked up eldritch voice in his head at first. Then he really said "fuck it" told the voice off, threatened to off them both and said that Jon was his best friend forever now. Bro really said " I can't stand Jon but I will die for him at any moment because He is my best friend and I love him" .
Fucker was tossed in the kings domain because he wouldn't let Jon go....sliced his own throat, took multiple stabbings to the chest and died over and over....and still wouldn't let Jon go because he CARES.
You cannot be serious.....They are willing to go through so much pain and suffering because they care about each other. Jon fucks Arthur over so many times and Arthur the same. But they always find themselves back together trying to mend whatever is torn because they CARE about each other. They have a bond that is constantly strained and fraying, but they refuse to let it break.
What they have is either really sweet or a really fucked up trauma bond....probably the latter.
I love the other characters that show up too, Oscar was a sweetheart and I really loved the motif of him being a priest on the road of redemption through helping Arthur. I fucking LOVED the butcher and was sad when he got his head popped (Rip you psycho) and Detective N-....you know what? Nevermind.....I don't want to relive that again if I don't have to honestly.
Falling in love with the world and the story is so easy. The characters are written well, I found myself invested in everything and was intrigued in every mystery. I love this podcast so much....and everything was written by one guy?
Every voiceover is done by him too...wait a minute...
Jon, Arthur, Oscar, butcher ...fucking Everyone?
What. No really, what the fuck.
Harlan you wonderful bastard, I hope all your pillows are comfortable and cool to the touch. I also hope you bang your toe on a door.
Tldr version: Fuck Kane, Fuck Larson, Love you Yellow you bitch. Please tell Jon and Arthur that I said I'd love to go on a lunch date with them and terrorize them about what happens in 2021.

Jon Snow Month: Favourite Chapter (2/3)
Second part of my Jon’s favourite chapters is here! In case anyone is interested to read the first part here you go.
A DANCE WITH DRAGONS JON XII (aka the one he accepts Wildings on the Wall and shows leadership skills)
The chapter begins with Jon having a nightmare related to wildings he´s about to permit to pass the Wall. We must all remember that it wasn´t that long ago that battle of the Castle Black happened and some wounds haven´t healed yet. Even for Jon who is the one who invited the Wildings this time -because the Night’s Watch will need as many fighters as they can get- and who also have lived among the Free folk and knows they are just regular humans. Still, some prejudices against them run that deep and for so many generations - remember; the Night’s Watch considers them the number one human foe-. Not even Jon cannot be affected by these things and thus why Wildings appeal to haunt his dreams:
That night he dreamt of wildlings howling from the woods, advancing to the moan of warhorns and the roll of drums.
[...] Burning shafts hissed upward, trailing tongues of fire. Scarecrow brothers tumbled down, black cloaks ablaze. "Snow, " an eagle cried, as foemen scuttled up the ice like spiders. Jon was armored in black ice, but his blade burned red in his fist. As the dead men reached the top of the Wall he sent them down to die again. He slew a greybeard and a beardless boy, a giant, a gaunt man with filed teeth, a girl with thick red hair. Too late he recognized Ygritte. She was gone as quick as she'd appeared. The world dissolved into a red mist. Jon stabbed and slashed and cut. He hacked down Donal Noye and gutted Deaf Dick Follard. Qhorin Halfhand stumbled to his knees, trying in vain to staunch the flow of blood from his neck. "I am the Lord of Winterfell," Jon screamed. It was Robb before him now, his hair wet with melting snow. Longclaw took his head off. Then a gnarled hand seized Jon roughly by the shoulder. He whirled ..
As you can see the nightmare ended with the most horrific way: Jon didn’t only killed enemies but also the girl he loved, brothers in arms and in the end even his own brother. His sense of guilt even for things he couldn’t control is obvious here. It’s a recurring theme of Jon to feel guilty for things he’s not responsible of (you can say that this started from a very young age when his step mother constantly shamed him for being a bastard) and it always comes up in times of high stress.
Something that I also find interesting about this dream is the mention of Jon wearing a black ice armor and fighting with a flaming sword. Sure, it’s part of his fevered dream but it could also be a foreshadowing of him being the Azor Ahai.
A good leader isn’t someone who never doubts his decisions or shows no fear in tough situations. A good leader is someone who despite being afraid and/or doubting himself still sticks to the plan he considers the best for his people. And that’s exactly what Jon does in the next day.
It’s crucial for the alliance between Wildings and Black Brothers to work that everyone will behave that day. And while Jon has no authority on Wildings -yet!- he’s the Lord Commander so he makes sure that his men will be obedient:
"Remember," Jon said,
"Tormund's people are hungry, cold, and fearful. Some of them hate us as much as some of you hate them. We are dancing on rotten ice here, them and us. One crack, and we all drown. If blood should be shed today, it had best not be one of us who strikes the first blow, or I swear by the old gods and the new that I will have the head of the man who strikes it."
They answered him with ayes and nods and muttered words, with
"As you command," and "It will be done," and "Yes, my lord."
Jon continues to make a series of clever decisions this particular day. Despite not liking having guards around him, when he goes to meet Tormund he takes eight brothers in their prime to go with him, as a Lord who wants to aspire respect would do. Also, knowing that the Wildings respect strength and that in terms of appearence he leaves a lot to be desired (not a dig against Jon, he’s only a seventeen years old teenager hardly looking fearsome for Free Folk who has survived much worse) he also calls Ghost by his side which adds to his overall presence.
Furthermore, he takes one hundred wilding young boys as hostages in order to secure that the rest of the Wildings will behave. It’s during the hostage reception that Jon shows insight on the Night Watch matters. When he realizes that there are two girls dressed as boys among the hostages he refuses to accept them and demands two actual boys to take their place. That’s because he know his black brothers’ weaknesses , some of them are criminals and even rapists. He won’t let two little girls around them. It’s not political wise (because hostages shouldn’t be harmed) and more importantly his morals and his kindness towards the weaker wouldn’t allow him to let little girls face the possibility of being sexually harassed.
Another trait a good leader should possess is not being arrogant, believing he knows everything. And Jon’s mantra is quite the opposite; as he recalls his lover,Ygritte, telling him that he knows nothing he admits that this still applies to that day. Despite taking drastic measures to save both Westerosi and the Free Folk from the real danger the Others (and he’s the only one in position of power who does so) he’s humble enough when it comes to his leadership to believe he has still a lot to learn.
An intersting note is that the Wildings don’t swear an oath to be loyal to the Night Watch but to Jon Snow specifically. Having read the end of the book where men of the Night Watch betray their Commander, Jon might soon need an army and he already have one in the Wildings.
Closing this meta, I’d like to offer two passages where it shows that Jon managed to do what no other Lord Commander did before him; to unite the Westerosi and the Free Folk (perhaps temporary but that remains to be seen):
Ahoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. One long blast. For a thousand years or more, that sound had meant rangers coming home. Today it meant something else. Today it called the free folk to their new homes. [...]
The castle Jon returned to was far different from the one he'd left that morning. For as long as he had known it, Castle Black had been a place of silence and shadows, where a meagre company of men in black moved like ghosts amongst the ruins of a fortress that had once housed ten times their numbers. All that had changed. Lights now shone through windows where Jon Snow had never seen lights shine before. Strange voices echoed down the yards, and free folk were coming and going along icy paths that had only known the black boots of crows for years.[...]

Help (I Need Somebody) Help
AN:Hey everyone! Hope you’re doing well, here’s chapter two of my wrong number daminette AU. I had a lot of fun with this, enjoy!
Chapter 2
Damian held back an unimpressed sigh when two goons rushed him. Their stances were off balance, and he could smell the stench of alcohol wafting off of them. A low sweep to their legs had both tumbling to the ground. If he had a dime for every lowbrow thug who thought they had a chance at beating him, he’d be richer than his father twice over.
It wasn’t his fault the brain lacking buffoons hadn’t figured out they had a snowball’s chance in hell to beat him in the seven years he lived here. Damian certainly wasn’t going to be the one to tell them different now. He needed some sort of stress relief after Alfred banned swearing in the house.
He flipped another grunt over his shoulders, an audible crack of a broken bone soon followed.
His mask hid a glint of amusement that was surely gleaming in his eyes, but he kept his face an annoyed scowl. The last thing he needed was word getting back to his father for finding pleasure in the suffering of others. Even if the whole reason they were out tonight, punching up a contingent of near brain-dead loons, was to stop a sex trafficking ring. It was times like this where he seriously considered the validity of his father’s no-killing rule; surely some scum wouldn’t be missed.
He whipped around to punch another man, nearly a foot taller than him and thrice as wide, across the face. Blood spurted from the thug’s nose as the behemoth fell to the ground. Good. Damian jumped back and flipped himself over to roundhouse kick another goon. Another satisfying crack, and the last of them had finally fallen to his superior skills.
Easy.
He waited for the warm glow of satisfaction after a fight well fought, but all he received was the familiar rush of adrenaline and the delicious burn of his muscles tensing for another go.
Unfortunately, all too easy.
Damian didn’t sigh, he was too disciplined for that, but the low-level grumbling in his mind, and the displeased sneer were all too indicative of his problem.
He was utterly unchallenged.
It wasn’t that he enjoyed getting beat to hell and back. He wasn’t a masochist (although, the same could not be said for the rest of his family, if anyone asked him (which, of course, they didn’t)). It was just… after three years with the Titans, constantly stretching to prove himself, pushing his abilities to keep up with those endowed with advantages he simply didn’t have, Gotham felt… lacking in comparison.
And with the Titans all but formally disbanded, Gotham was all he had.
Well… that wasn’t entirely true. He could follow Cyborg and Blue Beetle and join the Justice League. He had enough blackmail material on all the core members needed to vote him in if his father protested. It would be a welcome change; higher level threats and off world missions, if only there wasn’t the pesky problem of dealing with other heroes.
He would be the first to admit that in his younger teenage years his anti-socialness was a bit… problematic, but he’d grown past that. Socializing with the Titans had been difficult at first, but by the end he could say he was more than an acquaintance with them – even if he wouldn’t go so far as to call all of them friends. But even if he had gotten used to them, it still took three years. At least in Gotham his potential partners were all known quantities. Even if he disliked half of them on his good days.
“Robin, do you read?” called his father on the comms. He shook away his distracting maudlin thoughts.
He raised a hand to his comm. “All clear southside Batman, making my way to the roof.”
“Negative, Hood is already there. Red Robin needs help releasing the captives – cops will be here in fifteen.”
Damian bit back an irritated sigh. “I’ll be of more use-”
“Robin, that’s an order.”
The words wrapped around him, restricting in their resoluteness. He glared down at the unconscious thug and gave a swift kick to the side resulting in an incoherent groan. Gritting his teeth, he muttered, “Yes, Batman.”
His comm feed dropped off.
The resulting string of swear words he uttered in Arabic would have cost him two hundred dollars in the swear jar. Damian just didn’t give enough of a fuck to bring himself to care.
-0o0-
Damian didn’t slam his bedroom door shut, but it was a close thing.
Between avoiding his father, deflecting the inane chatter of his siblings, and dealing with the GCPD, all of whom were either corrupt, uncaring, or ridiculously overworked, he had been ready stab someone, repeatedly, consequences be damned.
And that discounted dealing with the inconsolable sobbing women they rescued from the shipping containers. The sight of dozens of girls packed together like cargo, most of them his age, if not younger, would be enough to throw even the most experienced off their game.
Damian lived through some truly horrid things growing up in the League. He killed a grown man before he lost his first baby tooth. Suffered through endless hours of training with painful consequences upon any sign of failure. He had been beaten, starved, tortured, and pushed to the extremes of what a child could endure, but the utter horror and disgust he was faced with tonight, well…
At least the suffering he’d endured had a point.
Rubbing a towel through his still damp hair, he collapsed on top of his bed with an exhausted groan. The shower did little in relaxing his tensed muscles, his bed a welcome retreat after being on his feet for hours. Reaching out blindly he grabbed his phone off his bedside table. Going to bed would be the better choice, but it was Saturday, so he didn’t really give a damn.
His phone flicked on and he was taken aback by the notification awaiting him.
40 unread messages
He raised an eyebrow. That was odd. Not completely impossible, but odd. He did have acquaintances who would text him, Jon and Garfield came to mind, but it would be one or two messages at the most. Maybe a missed call if it was something extremely important.
He unlocked his phone.
Tapping on his messaging app, he saw that the messages all came from an unknown number.
That raised even more concerns, considering anyone who had this number were people he should already have programed into his contacts.
This put Damian’s suspicions on high alert.
Cautiously tapping on the text stream, he began reading.
- As long as you’re not an evil villain running around in a purple suit or a bitchy Italian transfer student I figure you won’t care about what I have to say
- I haven’t slept in two days. My brain is buzzing. And between my insomnia and four years of repressed anger generated by existing in the same city as an emotional terrorist who uses magical butterflies to turn distressed people into monsters, I might come off a bit incoherent
Before Damian could stop it, a small laugh of amusement passed his lips. This person was either really high, or entirely serious.
His finger hovered over the delete button. This had nothing to do with him. The person admitted they were texting a random number to blow off steam. He should just let it go and get some sleep.
But despite the long drive home, the debriefing, and a shower, the adrenaline hadn’t left his system yet. And the sight of those women in the container wasn’t going to leave his brain for a while. Sleep wouldn’t be coming for a long time yet. Whoever this was, sounded, if not entirely sane, at least somewhat amusing.
Looking back on it, Damian didn’t know what the influencing factor that made him read further. It could have been amusement, or curiosity. It could have been sleep deprivation. It could have been the promise of distraction. It could all of those or none of those, or any combination thereof.
Or it could have been luck.
Pulling up the knitted blanket from the end of his bed, he settled in against his covers, and began to read.

Emilia Clarke Absolutely Knows The Scene In Game Of Thrones She Would Go Back And Change
Spoilers ahead! Only read if you've seen the ending to Game of Thrones.
Emilia Clarke got her big break as Daenerys Targaryen on Game of Thrones, which she has parlayed into a rather eclectic career that includes romantic comedies and other fan-favorite franchises. The HBO fantasy series has been finished for a few years now, but Clarke is still constantly peppered with questions about any scrap of detail that takes us back to the world of White Walkers, conspiring liars and unfortunate love stories. The Mother of Dragons is a good sport, though, and she has an answer for the one scene she would absolutely go back and change. And I think most of the Internet might just agree with her… I certainly do!
In truth, it’s likely the only logical Daenarys Targaryen scene to contemplate changing in Game of Thrones. It’s certainly the scene that polarized fans a lot when they first saw it in the series finale back in 2019. In her segment with theSkimm, Emilia Clarke revealed what she would change, saying:
“Right, the bit where I died!”
Ah, yes, the scene in which Jon Snow chose duty over love and stabbed Daenerys Targaryen to death, mere feet from the Iron Throne. It seems as though Emilia Clarke took a page out of Sean Bean’s own playbook and aimed to be more humorous than serious in her answer. But fans, and the North, remember their reaction to that final season, and it wasn’t exactly pretty.
Some of the biggest complaints about what played out in the final episodes of Game of Thrones centered on the major female characters, such as Brienne of Tarth left crying in her bathrobe over a man or Cersei Lannister crying in the face of death. It became a question of character development that is still hotly debated to this day. The contention only amplified when Emilia Clarke’s Daenerys Targaryen went from the breaker of chains to the mad hatter destroyer of cities in what felt like no time at all. Others would argue that there were hints of Daenerys’ fall, way before that season.
But the short and sweet reason behind the outrage over Daenarys Targaryen’s fate on Game of Thrones is that mostly everyone wanted her to win. They did not want to see her die. After years of fan-favorite characters being killed off at random, we just wanted that one good thing to prevail. I guess Emilia Clarke would’ve too, if she could change the scene herself.
Nevertheless, she may be known as the Mother of Dragons, the Breaker of Chains, the Unburnt, the…well, you get the point, but Emilia Clarke is also forging a path that would make even her Game of Thrones character proud. She recently joined the MCU family through Disney+'s Secret Invasion, based on the comic book crossover of the same name that sees alien Skrulls infiltrate different levels of life on Earth. Clarke has also written her own comic book, M.O.M.: Mother of Madness, which sounds like something Season 8 Daenerys would’ve have liked to have read if she never ended up dying.
But we can put those questions about that Game of Thrones scene to bed. The Queen has spoken. At least for now. Chances are the spinoffs, one slated for a release on HBO in 2022, will also draw varied opinions from fans.
While you wait for those, you can revisit Game of Thrones by streaming it on HBO Max. (Although I don’t know why you would want to put yourself through that finale season again)

okay okay i need 2 talk about helen bc im gay and insane okay please excuse the rambling
first off yes i know shes evil thats why shes sexy and yes i know thats why jon had to get rid of her like she probably wouldve tried to stop him at some point BUT
anyway 1. i already said this in a previous post, but helen’s past is just a list jon gave of examples and yes u could say he suddenly tried to “know” about her past but also helen is literally lies & was actively trying to get jon to be on her (the distortion’s) side and not “helen-classic’s” side and thus i am saying her saying yes to that list right there was a lie lol
2. jon is literally only ever mean to helen like she had every right to potentially stand in his way like if this were not an apocalypse scenario and they were regular humans. she put up w a lot huh
3. i dont believe the distortion specifically got rid of michael on purpose. in helen’s og statement she is quite literally attempting to create a map to attempt to figure it out. and then, well, she did and she took over michael’s position. also helen has never actually hurt jon and michael stabbed him, so like,
4. i also really hate that jon constantly says that helen-distortion is not the same as helen-the-human. (i also personally view the way michael and helen embrace/dont embrace the spiral as like a metaphor for something that im not going to expand on here as it doesn’t have any place in canon LOL) helen was never lying to him in that way, the same way as michael was never lying when he said he was michael and yet not michael. even michael was clearly still michael, he still had a motivation to hurt the archives, which i also think plays into jon’s misunderstanding.
5. michael wanted to hurt the archives, bc they hurt him, and thus he was motivated to do so, but the spiral in general doesn’t have such a narrowed motivation, and thus having one allowed him to be distracted enough for helen to figure out the spiral and take over. helen may have, in the future, attempted to stop jon from putting the world back to “normal," but that’s an entirely different motive than michael’s. the spiral would only want the world to stay in apocalypse-mode as its easier for it to enact its fear-causing role. thus i dont really think it “donned the face of helen” to specifically hurt jon & co (self-centered, much dude ?).
as i said before, helen would only be getting in jon’s way in the same way as any of the other avatars jon got rid of would; in order make sure the apocalypse-world kept existing. if it had never happened, i believe she would have kept being nice to everyone as apparently no one else had figured out that u need to bring all entities into the “real” world to complete a ritual, and if you didn’t know that, and were an avatar, you wouldn’t want other entities completing their rituals, and the magnus institute seemed pretty good at stopping said other rituals.
so she obv wasn’t gonna fuckin backstab them if they kept on doing that while also knowing that they could also end your own ritual, and thus keep the world in a decent state for her for enacting fear on people. thus, i believe that helen’s friendship w them wasn’t as jon said; to betray them and lead them astray. jon can barely even understand how helen can be helen and not helen, like she still is helen classic (as i’ve said), shes just through the lens of the distortion now, so honestly i don’t know why he would be so sure that helen would even stop him from “restoring” the world (it really was just a possibility). like, as i said, he is justified in smiting her bc of even the smallest possibility, but it is just that, a possibility. thus i believe her “friendship” was as genuine as one w a person made of lies can get. jon stfu for a second challenge.
it’s been said multiple times in the podcast that the eye has blindspots as well as that jon can’t see certain things due to their nature and i think the spiral is one of those things, and thus jon was only partially right in this instance.
anyway this is a long ass post i dont even know if thats all i want to say but uhhh tdlr; helen is sexy and jon doesn’t completely know what he’s talking about lol
#tma#the magnus archives#helen richardson#helen distortion#sweets.txt#u dont have to read this lol im just rambling for myself#also if anyone wants to yell at me: i like jon a lot hes a great character :) he is just stupid in this instance

i"I have way too many stories already planned" I said. “I can’t write in multiple fandoms at once, it will throw me off” I said. “OK so I’ll just get this out of my system real quick” I said. “Well shit, I’ve gotten more ideas now that I’ve started…” I said, determinded to face it - I have a problem. Just a small one… Who am I kidding. Send help.
Also, this is the first time I’ve written for this fandom. I’ve loved and enjoyed TMA for a while now, not just the pod but also fanworks. And now I’m joining in on the fun and you folks will have to deal with it :D ♥
This story got inspired by a conversation on Reddit with Swiftysmoon. Thank you very much for the inspo! This one is for you :)

Into the Void
Truth be told, Jon never planned on this to happen. Of course not - it is ridiculous and more than a little embarrassing, but he can’t help himself.
See, the thing is, Jon is a restless, anxious person in general. He’ll hide away in his office for hours, typing away or recording statements in solitude, only interrupted when someone actually wants something from him. That, or when Martin brings him yet another cup of tea, checking if he’s still alive or starved to death on his desk.
No kidding - Martin had told him this, once, and although he’d been half-joking at the time, the underlying message had been very clear.
‘Please take care of yourself, you worry me.’ - it had been oddly sweet, and Jon still has no idea how to even react to this kindness.
But the thing is - Jon has nervous habits. While his mind is wandering and he is buried neck-deep in his work, he tends to fiddle. Mostly with pens, or anything else he can reach on his desk. That would be fine - no one notices it, unless they stand right next to him. But Jon had almost choked on the pen he’d been chewing on, lost in thoughts while reading his notes, omn more than one occasion. Mostly thanks to Tim bursting into the room like the whirlwind he is.
For one, Tim Stoker just doesn’t knock. Ever. He enters a room as loud and cheerful as he does anything else, and it can be a bit unnerving. Still, he somehow manages to be a professional and be really good at his job. That and the fact that there is ‘Chaos’ written all over him makes for an odd combination sometimes, but they’re all somewhat used to this.
So, when Tim suddenly sticks his head into the room with a cheerfully casual
“Hey, Boss!”
Jon startles and nearly stabs himself in the throat with a pen while he scrambles to make it look like he didn’t chew on it the entire time. He needs to preserve some sort of professionalism around here, even though he feels a little bit lost sometimes.
He glares halfheartedly, trying to keep whatever is left of his composure in place. Tim shoots him a bright smile with finger guns, then he rattles off the information that Jon had asked him for not long ago.
Thankful that he doesn’t have to explain himself, Jon launches onto it.
As time goes on, things around the institute get more and more weird. One thing adds to the other, and suddenly, they’re at war against worms all over the place. They spend their days at the institute armed with fire extinguishers and in Martin’s case, a corkscrew. Martin even lives there now, which adds a whole different level to it all.
Really, it is not surprising that they rarely ever get any outside visitors down in the archives. They have a bit of a reputation for being weird, and truth be told, Jon can’t find any fault in the people who assume that. If he wasn’t involved - if he didn’t know what lurks out there, in the shadows, he’d have thought the same.
Pushing his own dismissive, sceptic act is getting harder and harder these days, but it doesn’t stop Jon from trying.
Even after Jane Prentiss’ attack, Jon tries to keep up that act. It’s clearly faltering now, though, which may or may not be partially due to the fact that he confessed to Martin that yes, he does believe and he is terrified. It’s been an awkward conversation, to say the least, and not just because Jon pretty much asked if Martin was a ghost and despite Martin stabbing him with the corkscrew. To be fair, he’d apologized profusely for that, and while Jon is not happy about it, he is thankful for his attempt to get the damn worms out of him. Just thinking about it still makes him shudder, makes him lay awake at night.
On the plus side, their team in the archives has grown much closer to one another - it eases the anxiety and paranoia, just a bit.
Jon finds himself busy, not to say, utterly distracted. Time flies, and he takes even less care of himself than he did before. He practically lives off tea, and whatever food is offered where Martin, Tim and Sasha drag him along to.
Jon acts prickly and annoyed as always, but in reality, he appreciates their efforts. Lord knows, he isn’t sure he deserves this kindness, but he still makes an effort. These three people are all he’s got, after all. They’re the only group of allies who have any sort of idea what is really going on in the archives, and that alone is enough to have him lower his walls just a bit.
One day, Jon keeps blowing an annoying, grey-streaked strand of his otherwise dark hair out of his face. He didn’t have the time or energy to get a haircut lately - there are much more pressing matters to take care of. But his hair is currently at the awkward in-between length that he hated years ago, when he decided to grow it out. He’d kept it long, up until shortly before his promotion to head archivist. Only then he parted with the shoulder length ponytail in an attempt to be perceived as more professional.
It doesn’t feel right - never did. And as much as he hates the annoying strands falling in his face, it makes him feel like he is back on the way to himself. Or at least as much as he can these days.
Especially in the face of, well, everything else, it is a small comfort. Right now though, Jon is annoyed - he takes a pen from his desk, and sticks it behind his ear to hold back the constantly falling piece of hair - it works.
Jon only notices the pen again when he is about to go to bed that night - he huffs, places it onto the small desk in his bedroom and then crawls under the covers. Once he is in bed, Jon is waiting for the insomnia and the nightmares to keep him awake, despite his best attempts to fall asleep.
He is long used to both, but the last few months have been significantly more stressful.
The next day, Jon is exhausted. He barely makes it into the kitchen for some coffee, then he drives to the institute, the pen forgotten back home. Oh well - he’ll bring it back in another day - no big deal.
Except, it becomes a Thing, with a capital T.
Jon is chewing on and fumbling with his pens as usual, recording statement after statement and doesn’t exactly realize what he is doing. He hides away, until one of the others drags him away from the desk for inconvenient human needs like food and company, but really, he goes willingly now. All he needs is a small reminder.
The bit of human warmth and company means a lot to Jon, and he soaks it up as much as he allows himself to. Trusting people is a struggle for him. His relationship with each and every coworker is definitely a work in progress, but he is willing to try, anyway.
One night, Martin points to the side of Jon’s neck in quiet amusement.
“Oh, you’ve got ink on you - yes, right there.” he touches the spot behind his own ear. Jon blinks, and when he tries to wipe it away, his hand comes away with yet another goddamn pen.
It joins a small pile of accidentally stolen pens on Jon’s desk back home - he’s been meaning to bring them back ages ago, but he keeps forgetting. At this point, he refuses to drop them all off at once, because that would definitely catch someone’s attention - and attention is the last thing he wants right now. Add in the fact that this is, well, ridiculous and embarrassing… No. Just no.
Jon looks around the room, heat creeping up his face even though there is no one around to look at and judge him - then he opens an empty drawer in his desk. The pens disappear with one swift movement of his arm before Jon slams the drawer shut. There - done.
And this is how, what Jon secretly calls his “Desk Drawer of Shame”, comes into existence.
Occasionally, a small handful of pens will make its way back into the archives. But at this point, they’re way, way too many to bring back at once, at least not without pissing off Elias. That is, if he isn’t chuckling at the ridiculous and mysteriously high cost of office supplies in the last few months.
At the very least, Jon would be at the receiving end of some good natured ribbing from his coworkers in the foreseeable future.
Jon is reading the last few lines of a statement, when the door to his office opens up after a quick knock. He looks up with a frown, which is more habit than anything at this point, and quickly drops his feet back on the ground. At least, he isn’t chewing on a pen this time.
Standing in the doorway, shooting him a small smile, is Martin and he is waiting for Jon to finish recording the last few lines. Only when the familiar
“Statement ends.” marks the end of the recording session, he starts talking.
“Hi! Uh, did you have lunch yet?”
Jon didn’t, and Martin knows it, but he is trying to go the polite route before his motherhen-mode is activated and he physically drags the man away from the desk in an attempt to make him take a break.
So, Jon smiles back, which still feels a bit foreign in a work context, but he secretly enjoys the spark of happiness on Martin’s face when he does. Not like he focuses on that or anything…
“No, I- I didn’t. Did you have something in mind?” he asks as he gets up and pulls his jacket from the back of his chair. It’s a welcome distraction from his work.
Jon didn’t sleep, again, and he can tell that he is getting sloppy and way more irritable than usual. Chances are, getting a bite to eat and spending some time out of the institute with a friend will do him some good.
On the way out, Jon falls comfortably into step with Martin. Plenty of thoughts cross his mind, and he chooses to ignore all of them. In fact, he’d been so busy staring up at a cluster of freckles on Martin’s cheek that he doesn’t even notice what he tells him about the little café that he was planning to visit. Only when he stops talking, obviously waiting for an answer, Jon nods, hoping that Martin actually asked him a yes-or-no question.
For now, it seems to be enough, and they enjoy their lunch break. Jon is still lost in thoughts though.
That night, he is unable to sleep once again, as his mind keeps him wide awake and Jon is shaking apart under the blanket. There are two new pens on his desk, and it feels like they’re glaring at him. It’s ridiculous - they really are the least of his worries. Jon is just distracted, that’s all.
There is ink on his neck. Again. Jon swipes at it in mild annoyance, inwardly cursing himself for being so careless. His movement catches Tim’s attention, and then his eyes wander to the pen that is stuck halfway to Jon’s ponytail - it’s for convenience, really - but it’s clearly the cause for the ink scribbles on his skin.
Tim puts the pieces together and grins. He is way too easily amused about this, but to be fair, they get their laughs whenever they can these days. And this is still much better than the silent, angry version of Tim that tends to come out more and more and the last few months. At least, when he’s laughing, he isn’t that.
Small favors.
The more distracted Jon grows, and the longer his hair gets, the more pens he keeps losing - or more like, forgetting - in it.
He doesn’t realize that he is doing it, really, until someone - mostly Martin or Tim these days, because Sasha is (gone) (different ) absent - walks up and plucks one of the pens right out of his hair in order to use it. Jon should be annoyed, but he can’t bring himself to be. It’s oddly comforting that the two of them are still willing to seek him out. Because that’s what this is - there are plenty of pens around, of course.
There is no need to come into his office, to come close to him just to get office supplies. They’re here because they want to, and that honestly means the world to Jon.
As much as he’d tried to keep them at arm’s length, he’s failed miserably. Thankfully so - things would be much, much worse if they had to deal with everything on their own.
“Hang on - how many bloody pens are in there?” Martin asks one day, calling over from the other room. He looks up in utter confusion while already cracking up with laughter.
“Wait, are those-?”
Oh goddammit.
Apparently, that’s what happens when Jon answers absentmindedly when asked for the location of a pen in his apartment.
He needs to renovate his kitchen, because the landlord just won’t do it in any reasonable amount of time, so Jon is in old jeans and an even older T-shirt, packing dishes and kitchenware into boxes with Martin and Tim. The two of them had been kind enough to offer help, so that’s why they’re all piled in Jon’s small apartment on a Saturday morning.
Partway through, they realize that they should probably label the boxes, and soon after, Martin stands in the bedroom, opening not the stationary drawer, but The Secret Drawer of Shame With Accidentally Stolen Pens From The Institute.
“Oh, good lord.” With an audible ‘thump’, Jons forehead collides with the kitchen table. His glasses sit crooked now, and he doesn’t lift his head up while he tries to explain, and despite being flustered, he manages to keep that certain tone of voice that’s usually reserved for work hours.
“I, yes. I may have accidentally taken a pen or two with me and only realized it here. Coming back into work with all of them at once seemed… well. Not ideal at the time.”
“No wonder when you keep storing them in your hair.” Martin comes back, with a handful of pens and a bright smile.
While walking past, he pulls another pen out of Jon’s bun, just to prove his point. A long strand of hair slips forward and falls back into Jon’s face. Meanwhile, Tim has snuck off to peek into the other room out of pure curiosity, then he proceeds to laugh his arse off for the next few minutes.
“You know, we should make it a sport at this point. How much stationary supplies can we steal until Elias catches wind of it?” Tim offers, because of course he does.
It is ridiculous and childish, so naturally, it quickly becomes A Thing.
Anything to get a tiny bit of satisfaction is a valid option at this point, and besides, it’s not like Jon is trying to be sneaky or anything. It just happens , like so many things these days.
As it turns out, Elias doesn’t care. None of them is stupid enough to assume he doesn’t know - the bastard knows everything, that’s part of their problem. He just never calls any of them out on it - if it is because it’s too unimportant or if he is getting a chuckle out of it as well, they never find out.
At some point, late at night when all three of them had a few drinks, they’re brave enough to joke about what fear entity would be responsible for a never ending void filled with pens (“A.K.A you desk drawer of shame, Jon. Have another drink, you’re annoyingly sober for this conversation.”)
It’s a half-serious debate, and one which they continue every once in a while. Most notably so at the institute’s christmas party, huddled in a corner where they’re mostly being left alone. And if that is mostly due to Jon glaring holes through anyone daring to come close, just a hair away from actually hissing and snarling, well. He didn’t get his reputation of being rude and prickly for nothing.
All of this turns into fond memories, once everything has gone to hell.
Jon is freshly awake from six months of coma, and the world around him has changed. Martin is barely around and Tim is dead . So is Sasha, even though they never knew, for the longest time.
All of this hurts badly enough to stop him from breathing every once in a while, and after a series of even more tangled and unfortunate events, Jon finds himself huddled close to Martin on a train.
They’re on their way to Scotland and neither of them talks much, but they’re unwilling to let go of the other’s hand. The air is chilly, even inside the wagon, and Martin is still shivering under layers of jumpers and jackets.
The Lonely has settled deep into his bones, and sometimes, it’s like he is fading away again. Every time this happens, the steady warmth of Jon keeps pulling him back.
Jons hand is smaller and bonier in Martin’s own large, soft hand, but it’s grip is steady and warm. His thumb keeps stroking gently over the back of his hand while he is holding it, and it is the most loved Martin has felt in a long time.
Eventually, he manages to relax enough to doze off for a bit. While his head find’s it’s way down and onto Jon’s shoulder, he can feel the slight poke of a plastic pen that is sticking out of his hair.
Martin almost smiles, and squeezes back when Jon tightens the grip around his hand and settles against him.
They keep finding the damn things around the safehouse, because frankly, they’re everywhere. And that’s just whatever Jon had on his person out of sheer habit. Lord knows, his hair has grown way past his shoulders by now, and more often than not, he keeps it up and out of the way with whatever is around him at the time.
Mostly, it’s pens.
At first, they’re just there , and both Jon and Martin have about a million other things to think of and to deal with than a few too many office supplies laying around.
The exhaustion, both physically and emotionally, leaves them absolutely drained and dead to the world.
It is bad enough so that they crawl into bed almost as soon as they have arrived and inspected the small cabin. The question of whether or not they’re going to share the bed isn’t even raised - neither of them is willing to let go of the other. All the way from London to up here, they’d held hands to reassure themselves that they wouldn’t lose each other, and they’re not about to stop now.
It is a lot easier to remind each other that they’re not alone when all they need to do is focus on the breath and heartbeat of one another. Focusing on the heat radiating under the blankets, where they are embracing throughout the night to keep the nightmares and the ever growing anxiety at bay.
They have plenty of bad days when everything just creeps up at them and even talking is too much. Those days, they spend curled up in front of the fire or in bed, holding on tight for as long as they need to in order to feel more alive again.
After a while, they’re able to relax more. Martin is much warmer and solid now, doesn’t fade away into the fog without noticing. It’s happening less and less now - whether or not he will be able to shake off The Lonely entirely, neither of them knows, but he is happy about every step in the other direction.
Jon is just as happy to see him doing better, and he tells him as much over breakfast, smiling as he tangles their legs under the table.
There are two pens already stuck in his hair, holding it up in two buns. It’s probably from when he read a statement from the stack of files and tapes that Basira sent over the other day.
The statement has definitely taken the edge off of things for Jon. Now he can sit at the kitchen table with his boyfriend and enjoy a cup of tea instead of growing weaker and weaker with hunger for statements. As ironic as it is, it makes him feel more human, even though he is no longer fully human. He’s pretty sure of it.
“I love you.” Martin tells him, because it is true and he likes saying it as often as possible, now that he can. It sends a spark of warm happiness through his chest, and it is bright enough to chase away the cold fog that’s still lingering sometimes - just for a bit.
“I love you, too.”
He’ll never get tired of hearing this.
“I love you” they say, as they drink tea in the morning and eat freshly baked bread, still warm from the oven.
“I love you” they say, as they walk hand in hand through the cobblestone streets down in the village, on their way to buy groceries and look at the little local shops.
“I love you” they say, as they step around each other in the tiny kitchen while cooking dinner, distracting one another with kisses until one of them remembers the food or notices the charred smell of something burning. It’s only then that they break apart, cursing and laughing all at once.
“I love you” they say, as they spend nights wide awake, holding on tightly through their grief and fear. They say it out loud or whisper it into the darkness, comforting one another as best as they can.
“I love you”, they whisper through silence and tears, but they say it just as much through smiles and laughter.
“I love you” they say, after every single argument. Their love for each other is strong, so much so that they’re certain they will be able to figure out the rest. Whether that’s the end of the world as they know it or anything else doesn’t matter.
“I love you” Martin says, after he walks up behind Jon and plucks one of the pens out of his hair. There are at least two more, and besides, Martin woke up this morning with a few lines of poetry in the back of his mind. He wants to write them down before he forgets - maybe, just maybe, he can turn them into something beautiful.
“I love you.” Jon says, and he pulls Martin closer by the front of his pyjama shirt, turning around just enough to be able to press a quick kiss to his lips. The movement leaves them both in an awkward position, hanging over the back of the sofa with their glasses askew.
Martin has one of his arms wrapped around Jon, who is holding on tight, happily leaning into him with a quiet, happy satisfaction on his face. Clearly, he is enjoying this an awful lot.
No doubt, if it wasn’t for the hold onto the sofa Martin has with his other, he’d have toppled over and fallen right into the smaller man’s lap. And maybe that’s exactly what Jon is trying to do - who knows. He is way more affectionate than either of them would have thought possible, really.
They remain wrapped up in the tight hug, and neither of them wants to let go yet.

Is Martin going to be mentioned again in ToT? Or is that little snippet in the buried going to be all Jon remembers?
Below is Spoilers, including details breakdown of the story’s meta. Bewarned! This is long & convoluted as all get out. It basically can be summed up like this:
Martin and other future people (not just events) have actually been mentioned more than that, and to answer your question right off of the bat, yes Jon will continue to remember.
As I was originally answering this, it kind of spiraled out of control as I dove into a detailed breakdown of some things so I decided to just go for the whole hog and put everything down here in one place. I’ve got a similar breakdown in another document, but that’s really just for keeping tabs on how many days have passed and not the meta analysis.
TL;DR on meta: Jon is leveling up at a ridiculous speed, but he already was high level to start out with so he’s really just lagging behind his adult self. The more he feeds the more he grows. In the Eyepocalypse, we’ve heard Jon lament that trying to access his powers within his body is like trying to “drink the ocean through a straw”, and it’s only gotten more difficult as his body has shrunk.
Another note on timing: in the original story, Jon had gained multiple marks in back to back horrible days. In my own small way, the pacing of these later chapters is repayment for Jon’s hell week.
Entity Touched events will be in bold. Jon’s powers being activated will be italicized. Remembering a specific person/statement/future event will be noted with (parenthesis). Please note that while I will put a specific name in the parenthesis Jon often does not consciously remember the name nor the full scope of the event/person/statement. I will keep a running total of how many days since the last notable entity touched event at the top.
Ch 1
Jon goes through the Spiral’s Doors. His body merges, and he fluctuates between seeing and Seeing. Eventually, his eyes settle upon Watching constantly. He struggles to remember Section 31 (Daisy and Basira “they were both strangers and enemies and friends“). He Knows Detective Davies exact schedule, and the train schedule. He attempts to Feed via Compelling, unsuccessfully. He Sees Detective Davies schedule change. He Senses stories nearby.
Ch 2
Day 3 post-emerging:
After reading a Story: he Knows the difference between true and fake statements, as well as Mr. Magnus’s true name and that he stole the name Elias. He can See farther than what his eyes should be able to, and is able to Watch Elias. He Compels Elias but does not stay long enough to feed off his answers. He remembers (Barnabas Bennett). He remembers (the feeling of his own rib.) He remembers (going into the Lonely to save someone). When pressed, he remembers (the Unknowing exploding into fire) and losing “them” (his Assistants). This causes him to vomit and creates a void within him that must be filled.
Ch 3
Day 3 post-emerging, less than one hour after reading a Story:
Jon summons tape recorders to listen to stories. He listens to dozens of Stories at the same time. Jon remembers (the layout of the Institute). Jon gives a Statement.
Ch 4
Day 3 post-emerging, hours after consuming dozens of Stories:
Jon remembers (the Dark Sun, and Looking directly at the Entities). Jon remembers (Michael stabbing him for Compelling).
Ch 5
One day after consuming dozens of Stories:
Jon reads a bedtime Story. This reveals to Elias that Jon is able to comprehend all languages.
Ch 6
Jon consumes multiple Stories per day, far exceeding the normal Archivist rate of consumption. He remembers (Elias unable to See him in Orsinov’s Circus) He is unable to lie. He walks through the Archivist nightmares and the nightmares of the Eyepocalpyse, but these future events are unable to be perceived by Elias. During these nightmares, he remembers (being hurt by several “monsters”.)
Post this chapter, assume Jon has read at least one bedtime Story and multiple Stories throughout the day for months.
Ch 7
Jon now Knows all answers to fact-based questions his teachers ask. He begins drawing Eyes that have some will of their own- refusing to be paired. Jon now speaks directly to the Eye. It is confirmed his eyes have now physically changed to be reminiscent of other Avatars of the Eye- ie Elias. Jon Sees all marks left on people by the Entities. He remembers (how the Entities make Avatars), (Simon Fairchild) and (that he did something very bad unwillingly). He can sense when Elias is trying to See into his head.
Ch 8
Jon Feeds off of Emma, and forces her to Know her victim’s pain. Everyone is unable to move or interrupt him. He forces the web of the Mother of Puppets to be Shown. He remembers (where the tunnels are and what they do).
Ch 9
One day after Feeding off of Emma
Jon grows bigger. Jon Knows the (true nature of the Entities, and their effects on the world) and tries to articulate them. His explanation is different than Gertrude’s. He remembers (Tim’s jokes, Martin’s love of fuzzy tarantulas, the fight with Peter, and Michael-as-the-Distortion’s Statement, being friends with his Assistants and that things went wrong when his Assistants were no longer his friends). He thinks, but is not sure, he remembers who the man in the tunnels is (Lietner) and that he can track him down. He can See everyone’s marks and make them visible to others. When attempting to consciously access Knowledge of Michael’s future, he faints and blood comes out of his nose.
Jon consumes a Story. Jon remembers (how to Quit). Jon fights with the Eye’s geas against speaking of escape and wins.
Jon remembers (the Eyepocalypse) and Knows why he can survive on only old stories and statements from Avatars. Reaching for this knowledge is even more difficult than just Michael’s future, and causes him to black out for a significant amount of time with a severe memory wipe. Despite this memory wipe, he remembers (Gertrude does not treat her Assistants well, and the location of Fiona & Joshua Gillespie’s statement).
Ch 10
Jon Knows how to get to the Coffin purely thanks to the Eye, and realizes the Knowledge is external because his sense of direction was previously so poor. He is now able to consciously communicate directly in a back and forth conversation with the Eye, although the Eye is currently only Answering Jon’s Questions and Jon is giving his opinion. Being near the Coffin causes Jon to remember (he was in the Coffin for 3 days).
Being in the Coffin causes Jon to remember (that he got stuck with someone else last time, that he had an anchor, and that it might be M-m-mar- ), then he gets out in a day and a half. This is half the time of the first round, despite Fiona being deeper in than Daisy had been.
Jon Feeds off of John the Buried Avatar.
Ch 11
Day 1 post-Coffin & Feeding off of John
Jon feeds off of Dr. Girard the pediatrician.
Jon still comprehends all languages, but now he can articulate something is strange despite still not realizing he’s not hearing English. Jon grows after feeding. Jon Knows when Fiona is in trouble. His eyesight is noticeably excellent. Jon remembers (Gertrude’s war against the rituals is “stupid”, and that Jonah stole Elias’s body and why. He remembers statements about Agnes, and how Agnes and Gertrude are bound, and what various members of the Cult of the Lightless Flame look like. He also remembers going out for Martin’s birthday and eating ice cream, which is how he knows where the nearest ice cream parlor is.)
This is the last time Jon takes out the crayon drawing of the Eye.
Ch 12
Day 2 post-Coffin & Feeding off of John, Day 1 post Feeding off of Dr. Girard
Jon remembers (you should never hold an Avatar of the Desolation barehanded, and that the tunnels go for miles and miles, and that Smirke realized his architectural theories were wrong.)
Jon Knows he loves tea but hasn’t found one that tastes right. (He’s thinking of Martin’s tea, but he doesn’t realize it.) It’s also revealed that Jon is crying alone sometimes in his room when he thinks no one will notice, but he doesn’t Remember why. When asked, he remembers (he was Made and not Born), and Knows that the Eyepocalypse/”his destiny” is preventable, but he had to lay down before remembering/realizing any further.
He remembered the (statement about Agnes’s childhood, and the Distortion’s Avatars, despite the fact the Distortion would not merge like that until post-ritual, and that Gertrude liked to blow things up/use fire to disrupt rituals.)
The Eye now is giving Jon specific suggestions, ie origami frogs, when he Asked for ideas.
Ch 13
Day 3 post-Coffin & Feeding off of John, Day 2 post Feeding off of Dr. Girard
When asked, he knows there’s no such thing as time where the Eye is, but vomits from trying to Know something directly about where the Fears currently are. Jon remains nauseous but does not faint, have blood loss, or memory loss. Then, when a Story is read to him from Van Closen, he remembers (the contents of a different statement entirely- Fanshaw’s letter.) He struggles to grasp something else the Eye is telling him.
Ch 14
Day 4 post-Coffin & Feeding off of John, Day 3 post Feeding off of Dr. Girard.
Jon remembers (being a manager.) Elias and Fiona do not realize Jon is using terms no one has used around him before- nor do they recognize like Michael did earlier that Jon’s specific grasp of corporate language is far outside the normal range of what children usually have picked up.
Fiona, newly awakened, uses her powers on Jon. He then, when in close proximity to her, is reminded of what information he hadn’t been able to grasp earlier (ie, Eric and Gerry).
Jon enters a battlefield surrounded by Entity-touched deathtraps being sprung. He remembers (wandering untouched in the Eyepocalypse, Mary binding herself to the book.)
Ch 15
Day 4 post-Coffin & Feeding off of John, Day 3 post Feeding off of Dr. Girard.
Jon (remembers “interrupting drinks” and that they always taste better when in a mug- ie, Martin’s tea. He remembers the Dark was “for babies”.)
When awoken, he is able to articulate that he did remember Gerry and Eric.
Jon summons Eric. The Archive speaks. Jon Knows how to edit the Book as Mary Keay did in the original timeline, and does so.

I just have to ask, have you noticed a sort of lowkey Arya hate in Gendrya fics? It seems a recent trend has Arya constantly in the wrong (about things she canonically knows) and in need of being corrected or yelled at by Gendry, Sansa, Jon, whoever. The most popular is Arya portrayed as being blind to her privilege as a Stark, as if she's not the girl that lived homeless for weeks in fleabottom as a nine year old, forced labour in Harrenhal, on the run in the riverlands, etc, etc.
OH. MY. GOD. YES.
It is constant. I can’t tell you how many fics I have seen that flanderize Arya’s personality to make her vicious and arrogant, purely for the sake of then having Gendry correct these flaws with his penis.
It’s frustrating on two levels, both because it shows a disdain for Arya’s canonical personality (not to mention everything she represents) but also because it woobifies Gendry who is, and I say this with the purest love, a total dick.
First, they have to present Arya as a problem. This is most glaring in canon/canon!au fics. They depict Arya as a “Kill first, ask questions never” type. The people around her are horrified by this because it’s apparently a personality flaw and not the trauma response of a person hunted and terrorised since childhood. Just a reminder that the people who judge her so much for her violence are:
Gendry, who in book canon is a member of a murder gang, and in show canon spent that one scene in 7x05 going, “Can I murder those guards? Can I murder those guards? Can I–– YES, MURDER TIME.”
Jon, who has fought in literal wars, hanged boys, beheaded bitches, nearly beat a man to death, and stabbed his lover.
Sansa, who in book canon daydreamed about Robb sacking KL, and in show canon smiled while feeding her rapist to his dogs.
Are any of them being condemned for their apparent sadism? No? Funny that.
Besides that, plenty of fics love to depict what needs to be done before she can deserve a Certified Hottie like Gendry. This includes flaws to be fixed (her privileged ignorance, her lack of empathy, her inability to commit, aka bullshit, bullshit, bullshit) as well as the things she needs to atone for, such as her terrible, no good, very bad behaviour to people, mainly A Certain Sibling, and her ever so heartless abandonment of Gendry.
It’s so frustrating to see how many fics are invested in the idea that Arya, and only Arya, needs to change herself, to be good enough for a relationship. Depicting Gendry as this mature, wise, emotionally healthy darling who just wants Arya to stop being such a psychopath so they can get together is an insult to his characterisation, hers, canon, and everything their fans have ever said. It feels uncomfortably like some fans want to read about Very Hot Man Joe!Gendry finding love but don’t actually like Arya all that much and so have to correct her so that Gendrya makes sense to them.
And I’m not here for it, fam.

whathappenedtomelanieking: anyway i was stalking her twitter and she was like posting stuff about being in India and shit and get this. She got shot!
imnotjusthomointhesapienway: let me guess. By a ghost
whathappenedtomelanieking: YES!!!
imnotjusthomointhesapienway: fucking...
whathappenedtomelanieking: Not even the best part… she’s back in London and you’ll never guess where she’s working now.
ijustworkhear: where
imnotjusthomointhesapienway: ayyyy!!! Sam’s here! help me
ijustworkhear: <3
whathappenedtomelanieking: The Magnus Institute
ijustworkhear: k… cool
whathappenedtomelanieking: omg guys you don’t know what the Magnus INstitute is?
whathappenedtomelanieking: how are you my FRIENDS?
imnotjusthomointhesapienway: *sigh* tell us
whathappenedtomelanieking: they collect supernatural statements and “look into them” sounds like a piece of baloney to me, but you gotta pay the bills somehow i guess
imbeggingforausername: thought you believed in the supernatural
whathappenedtomelanieking: yeah, ghosts. The Magnus Institute pretends that there’s like evil books and stuff
imnotjusthomointhesapienway: and Melanie’s working there now? She has cracked
whathappenedtomelanieking: no kidding
ijustworkhear: maybe its for the best
imbeggingforausername: might be good for her
ijustworkhear: jinx!
imbeggingforausername: <3 i don’t know how to tell you this, but no
February 3, 2018
imbeggingforausername: @whathappenedtomelanieking
whathappenedtomelanieking: i’ve been summoned
imbeggingforausername: You see what’s been up with Melanie King lately?
whathappenedtomelanieking: no… what’s going on?
imbeggingforausername: all these vagueposts about how much she wants to kill her boss, which like, mood but im worried shes serious
whathappenedtomelanieking: do tell
imbeggingforausername: she’s like “my boss is trapping me and all these people into working at the archives”
whathappenedtomelanieking: dude… really?
imbeggingforausername: really
imbeggingforausername: i thought it was funny at first, but… you know… you can only read so many posts about what eldritch horrors someone thinks is attacking them before you start to worry.
whathappenedtomelanieking: i’ve been looking into the institute since Melanie joined, i was curios
whathappenedtomelanieking: their last head archivist was found in the tunnels beneath the institute shot three times and their latest archivist is on the run from the police for beating an old man to death with a pipe and probablt killing one of his assistants
imbeggingforausername: wtf
whathappenedtomelanieking: and they got this real bad worm infestation a while back, apparently it freaked one of them out so bad they lived in the archives for like 6 months
imbeggingforausername: How do you know this?
whathappenedtomelanieking: talked to the receptionist, her name’s Rosie, she’s very nice
whathappenedtomelanieking: she’s seen some weird shit. I think i might have seen Melanie but i didn’t talk to her
imbeggingforausername: I forget you live in London, any other weird things?
whathappenedtomelanie: don’t know how much is real, but yeah.
whathappenedtomelanieking: she thinks some lady can control worms, there was this weird tall guy in Jon (that’s the archivist guy)’s office at one point and she never saw him leave (same with the lady giving Jon a statement),
whathappenedtomelanieking: oh and Rosie didn’t tell me this one, but the head of the institute, can’t remember his name, came out of his office at one point and just stared at me
imbeggingforausername: creepy
whathappenedtomelanieking: ikr?
whathappenedtomelanieking: i left like right after that. I did ask if i could look in the archives, but no, you need some kind of degree or something
imbeggingforausername: a degree???? Are they serious???
whathappenedtomelanieking: they looked it, 🤷 i wasn’t going to push my luck, the old guy really freaked me out. It was like he looking into me
imbeggingforausername: what kind of degree would you even need??
imbeggingforausername: ooh weird
whathappenedtomelanieking: just saying, don’t think I’ll be going back for a while
imbeggingforausername: probably smart
October 25, 2018
imnotjusthomointhesapienway: @whathappenedtomelanieking i’m blaming you for getting me interested in this… but all your talking and theorizing about the Magnus Institute has gotten me interested
whathappenedtomelanieking: ooh, in listening
whathappenedtomelanieking: *I’m
imnotjusthomointhesapienway: I went up and talked to Rosie too (you were right she is v. nice) the head of the institute got arrested and the archivist is in a coma
whathappenedtomelanieking: jesus, i feel like we’re uncovering a conspiracy just by being worried about an entertainer we enjoy… Maybe we should leave this alone?
imnotjusthomointhesapienway: i’m kind of getting that too
whathappenedtomelanieking: what about melanie tho?
imnotjusthomointhesapienway: idk, I asked Rosie about her and she just glanced around and then shook her head
whathappenedtomelanieking: i’ve been asking around on some forums and stuff, even emailed one of her old cameramen seems no one’s heard from her in upwards of a year and she’s barely been seen outside the institute
imnotjusthomointhesapienway: um…
whathappenedtomelanieking: genuinely getting worried, but… it’s her life i guess? idk...
October 20, 2019
whathappenedtomelanieking: WE WERE NOT WORRIED ENOUGH ABOUT MELANIE!!!!!!
ijustworkhear: what happened???
imbeggingforausername: wtf
imnotjusthomointhesapienway: did she kill someone or smth
whathappenedtomelanieking: I WAS JUST LISTENING TO WHAT THE GHOST AND GEORIGE MENTIONED MELANIE OFFHAND. I KNOW THEY HANG OUT SOMETIMES SO I CHECKED GEORGIE’S INSTAGRAM AND MELANIE WAS IN ONE OF THE PICTURES (they’re a couple btw, v. cute) SHE WAS BLIND!!!! LIKE PROPERLY!! IT LOOKED LIKE SHE’D BEEN STABBED IN BOTH EYES!!!
imnotjusthomointhesapienway: jesus wtf
ijustworkhear: omg, she’s okay though
imbeggingforausername: damn…
whathappenedtomelanieking: i mean… she’s blind… probably not having a great time, but she looks happy
imbeggingforausername: 🤷 it’s not like she died
whathappenedtomelanieking: i’m not saying its bad she’s blind Erin, just that i’m worried about how it happened.
whathappenedtomelanieking: she was working at that fucking weird institute (you know, ever since i went there i have this feeling like i’m being watched constantly)
imnotjusthomointhesapienway: yikes

Answers for Jonerys
The arguments put forward for the X theory are level by level. Level 1 arguments often contain the strongest sign. Second level arguments support level 1, but alone have only "thought-provoking" effects. Third level arguments, on their own, have no effect, and are additional arguments that support level 1 and 2.
> Her silver was trotting through the grass, to a darkling stream beneath a sea of stars. A corpse stood at the prow of a ship, eyes bright in his dead face, grey lips smiling sadly. A blue flower grew from a chink in a wall of ice, and filled the air with sweetness… . mother of dragons, bride of fire …
The strongest argument naturally ranks first. In fact, the whole theory is based on this argument. There are two problems with this argument.
The first problem is that this is the only level 1 argument. No other level 1 argument was presented, whereas a strong theory must have more than one level 1 argument. (It is not completely necessary, though.)
The second problem is the misinterpretation of this quote.
We need to understand what a shipper theory is. Both sides have to fall in love with each other, have a relationship together, and something (even if it doesn't end with a happy ending) at the end of the day.
For example, one-sided love or forced coexistence can never be a shipper theory. Or something like a one-night romance. (An example is Arya and Gendry on the show. This is not a ship.)
Let's go back to the argument. When interpreting this argument, Jonerys fandoms overlook a fact.
Dany is warned by the Undying Ones. They told her that some events would happen and that it would be her disaster. Dany didn't understand the jigsaw words. So Dany asked them to explain and show her and they did.
This vision is an image shown to explain those disasters. To show Dany things and people that will hurt in the future ... The blue flower on the ice is Jon Snow. This flower emits sweet scent into the air. This is not a "love" sign, but a "death" sign. In books, the word "sweet" appears to be a sign of death in weight (or to face death). In addition, the word sweet and death are used side by side. So we need to pay attention to the places where this word is used.
For example, Sweet Raff, nicknamed "sweet", shows that GRRM sentenced this person to death. He died in his Mercy POV. Dany remembers Sir Willem smelling "sweet" when he was on his death bed. (Sickness)+dead=sweet We see that later. Bran's fall. Before fall he felt sweet pain in his body and also he used "sweet peach" word and he almost died, he was in coma. Who gave poison to Jon Arryn? "A sweet old friend."(Lysa and LF). Varys calls Lancel as "sweet boy" And Tyrion too in second book. He almost died in Battle of Blackwater and he may die in the future. Dany's wine was described as "sweet" The wine was poisonous. Drogo's wound smeel "sweet" He died. Jorah even gave Dany a sweet peach. Just like the Renly and Stannis scene (both brothers are dead, will die) (These are just a few examples, more dozens. https://www.reddit.com/r/asoiaf/comments/cr8me0/a_death_mark_in_asoiaf_sweet_spoiler_main/ )
If we pack it all up, Jon Snow will have a direct or indirect stake in Dany's death in the future. So, Jon Snow = dead for Dany.
No one can draw ship theory from such a fate.
> These quotes make a subtle connection between Dany and Val. Jon as we know is very attracted to Val. He first describes Val’s hair as pale silver; Dany of course has pale silver hair. In fact it is one of the most distinguishing features about her. So the connection here is that Val is a substitute for Dany. Also, note that the moon is mention, which as we know is strongly connected symbolically to Dany throughout the series, ex. “Moon of my Life”.
Val's hair is blond. Just once looked like silver hair because of moon. Okay, this is a second level argument. Available.
Dany's contact with the moon covers her relationship with Drogo only in book 1. No one except Drogo calls him "my moon" and has no reference to the moon in the future. So we cannot say that there is a "very strong" moon reference. Ned also calls Arya "the moon" in the first book. By showing this; Can we say Arya = Moon? No, this alone cannot be used. However, for 5 books, Arya has many moon references, unlike Dany. (https://www.reddit.com/r/asoiaf/comments/eo3ghb/arya_stark_and_braavos_moon_and_water_spoiler/ )
This alone does not matter. The word moon shows signs similar to death as the word "sweet".Even though it does not cover all the words of the moon, there has been a death many times before or after the moon appears. Moon Door is a dead place, the moon and moonlight are mentioned all over the place in AGOT’s prologue. The Others appear after a half-moon rises, and there are multiple references to the moonlight reflecting off the Other’s blade. There is a moon icon all over the FM house, even at the door. FM = death. Braavos is a moon city from the beginning. They are enemy of Valyria and dragon lords, and probably all Braavos played a role in the Doom of Valyria (with FM) So Drogo called Dany all the time “my moon” and Dany killed him with a pillow.
That's why it's hard to use the Val and Jon scene for Dany and Jon. At least we can't use it for Jonerys.
What does the moon and sweet weather mean for Val? Death. Twice a death mark. (Jon smelled sweet in book 5 before he died.)
> In these quotes we find a connection between a dream lover of Dany and Jon Snow. In her dream/vision Dany’s lover is a comely young man whose face is hidden in shadows. Jon is described by Ygritte as having a sweet face (comely) and in the two additional quotes below we see Jon describe himself as being in the shadows and we see Mel describe his face as hidden in shadows. These descriptions associate the young lover Dany sees with Jon Snow.
Maybe it's available but I'm not so sure. This sound a bit like a pushing.
The word dream used in the quote of Dany is not a dream seen asleep. This word is a dream used to imagine. Something you do consciously while awake. Here, Dany naturally (awake) dreams of a younger and handsome man for herself. Jorah is old and ugly for him. The word shadow comes naturally from Dany not thinking about a particular man. Because there is no type of man she desires around. Already later she met Daario and found the man she desired. That shade now has a face, and Dany fell in love with him. She constantly thinks about him, and we even see Dany thinking about him in her last POV. (Just like Jon thinks about Arya and Rhaegar thinks about Lyanna. ;) )
> Although the timeline is unclear, Jon was stabbed and presumably killed within the same time that Dany found herself alone in the Dothraki sea. Dany hearing the wolf howl could be the author making a connection between Jon’s death and how Dany would feel about it.
>If Dany knew who Jon was to her, his death would be incredibly sad but most importantly it would be lonely. Jon of course is Dany’s last living relative, although she does not know this. That this wolf howl brought such strong emotions to Dany is definitely something of interest.
Jonsa fandoms also used the same argument. Sansa heard a howl of wolf, and they interpreted it for the same thing. Which of you is correct to interpret?
I'll say it. None of you. There is one to four months between Jon's death and the scenes of these two characters. Another important detail is that in the scene where Jon is dead, the Ghost is not howling in any way and making a sad voice.
In the second book, Jon has the Bran scene, and the Ghost is howling sad and long. A few chapters later, Arya hears the howl of the wolf, which is described in the same words while in Harrenhall. (Here: https://www.reddit.com/r/asoiaf/comments/5cw18j/spoilers_extended_something_strange_about_aryas/d9zw29r/ )
> There would have been a sixth, but the Usurper’s dogs had murdered her brother’s son when he was still a babe at the breast. If he had lived, I might have married him. “
Yes, Young Griff is probably is fake Targaryen and Rhaegar’s son is Jon. But this level 3 argument doesn't mean anything for the Jonerys ship alone.
Dany is not talking about a love subject here, but a traditional “political” Targ marriage. We also see in the same book that Rhaegar's son has a character named Aegon, and he is(was) coming to her to marry Dany. So it's all about the two character stories that Dany and we think are real Aegon ... We will not see a happy marriage anyway, as we know Dany's arc end. So this argument is invalid for Jonerys in any way. (Even if we assume that Jon is in psychology who can marry his aunt)
Most likely, all that is done is the GRRM throwing a fishing rod to us(Dany-Aegon.. or not and we can see those two can marry, maybe, i do not know. Not sure when i think about Euron, whatever).
> Here the author winks and nods at us as Jon is wishing for the very same thing Dany has, three dragons.
> “He might as well wish for another thousand men, and maybe a dragon or three.”
Yes, I smile when I read this scene. I just couldn't understand how you interpreted this for Jonerys. It's hard to say even a level 3 argument. It seems a little bit of pushing again.
Jon asked for 1000 men and then he took it, Jon also asked for 3 dragons. Maybe he will take all Dany's dragons? He's a Targaryen and probably a powerful warg. He can take it all for himself. Or as a matter of "alliance" for the danger of the Other, it is more correct to accept it as a weapon. Already, at first, Jon wanted 1000 men for defense, just as he wanted to defend all three dragons. There is no romantic reference from this.
> Finally, this pair of quotes is both a parallel and a connection between Dany and Jon. Both find themselves laying next to the person they love/are attracted to, as Jon ponders his lost of Ghost and Dany wakes from her nightmare not even the presence of these people they care about can drive the deep loneliness that they both feel.
Parallel scenes can be used as arguments. Sometimes level 2, level 3 ... However, they do not make sense on their own.
Remember, level 2 arguments are to support level 1 strong arguments, but there is no level 1 argument. You put forward one, but that is also completely misinterpretation.
Parallel scenes do not mean anything by themselves, because logically all characters have parallel scenes, life stories. Jon and Arya; Arya and Dany; Jon and Tyrion; Dany-Tyrion-Jon and Dany-Arya ... this is how it goes. For example Arya and Dany https://www.reddit.com/r/asoiaf/comments/ew2z2y/ice_and_fire_two_sides_of_a_coin_spoiler_main/ and even Dany and Davos: https://www.reddit.com/r/asoiaf/comments/gj1wnp/spoilers_extended_a_big_parallel_between_davos/ Should we call a new ship “Daverys”? :D
Parallel scenes may be a reference, but never a FS. “You are going to marry a King...” This can be FS. “My heart sometimes like a stone...” (Cat) is a FS. Sweet and Moon signs maybe can be a FS.
If this is the case, we can produce ship theories for all characters by looking at all these parallel scenes. There are too many parallel scenes between Arya and Bran. Shall we write another incest ship theory? For example, we can make a very crazy romantic ship theory between Dany and Arya, their life stories and their psychological developments are so similar to each other .. it's almost hard not to say their fate is one. Jon and Arya have similar parallel events too. If we can say Jonerys, we can say JonArya, right? How many characters will Jon have a romantic relationship with? I hope I was able to explain what I mean?
I have read the pov of Jon and Dany many times. I could not see a FS that there would be a romantic relationship between these two. If something is going to happen between two important characters, we cannot say that GRRM does not mark it. He does that. When I read Sansa povs, many signs for SanSan are laid before me without the need for a search. Or Jonarya signs.
First of all, it is necessary to wait for an infrastructure for a love relationship. Foreshadowing sentences are a sign for events that will happen, but is there any meaning unless there is character and story development?
In his speech, Jon and Ygritte, we saw that Jon had no problem with his love affair with foster sibling if he had no blood ties. So have we seen Jon volunteer to have a relationship with his own aunt? No. He can never be comfortable with incest because he wasn't raised that way.
This could happen without Jon knowing his identity, you might think. Just like in the show ... Possible. But we know that Dany will come in the 7th book, and they will probably meet in the middle of the book at the earliest. If you especially believe that the 2nd Dance will be between Dany and Aegon, the other kind seems hard to me.
So I'm asking, when will Jon learn about his real identity? At the end of the book? It is not possible. He needs to learn either at the end of Book 6 or at the beginning of Book 7. For his other danger, Jon is the real weapon and leader ... His family history will be his strength and superiority in this war. That's why he needs to know. Lord Reed knows everything, he will warn and inform Jon about everything. So when Jon meets Dany, he will either have learned his identity or will learn soon after meeting. So it's hard to wait for Jon to have a romantic relationship with a Dany. Another issue is that when these two characters meet, there is no suitable environment and time to form a love relationship between the two. Others have come and war has begun, death is everywhere and will these two find time to fall in love? Will it be possible to develop a story in this way? How? This book is not written by D&D, so let's not expect a disgrace like the show's script.
Thank you for read(Sorry for may bad English).

Game of Thrones - S04 E04
In this episode, Jon Sneuh tries to stand up to someone but remembers his personality part way through. Brien is off on a proper quest. Bronn keeps teaching Jaime to fight. Littlefinger makes me wish he wasn’t there and Crispy Marge creeps me out.
I’m not going to pretend that the scene with Crispy Marge and... pre-teen King Lannister in this episode made me nervous. There is no other show that I spend so much time googling how old the characters are to check if my discomfort at the way they’re being treated is legitimate. I feel like Georgerr probably justified this with “um well actually it’s historically accurate” and I counter that with, hmm, yes but it’s also creepy and gross. Nobody ever listens when I claim that things are creepy and gross though, so here I am screaming into the void on Tumblr. I was surprised that Crispy Marge was surprised that her nan said she’d killed Pointy King, because I assumed that from pretty much the moment that Pointy King keeled over. I was surprised that Littlefinger claimed to have had something to do with Pointy King’s death, but I guess we aren’t going to be treated to a satisfying Midsomer Murders style flashback in which Littlefinger wears black ski gloves to creep towards Pointy King’s food and poison it (I’d want Pointy King to exclaim “What on earth are you doing here?” just before he was murdered too, for proper Midsomer vibes.)
Daenerys is being violent and vengeful, which makes all the men around her raise their eyebrows and snort heavily into their salt and pepper beards. This is a fun illustration of how gender works in the series, because when Daenerys or Circle does anything brutal it’s framed as horrifying and a sign that they’re “mad women” while when a man does something brutal, it’s just a natural part of the social fabric of the world. The bit when Tomb Raider Techie cuts off Jaime’s hand is nasty, but it is just the kind of thing that men do in this world. This actually kind of works for me, if you want this series to be taking place at a time when women are becoming more active members of society. To hark back to a point I made earlier, this is something that the series struggles to balance. Progress happens when a few people of an oppressed group decide they’re going to push for change, what I find unrealistic is that every. female. character. is pushing for change, simultaneously. Circle doesn’t want to get married, Marge is going to bang her way to the top, Arya loves to stab people, Daenerys likes to set people on fire. The only character who appears to be working within the social structures set out by the world of the programme is Sansa, and terrible things happen to Sansa: but that makes sense.
There’s also inconsistency in the amount of respect with which women are treated by the show in general, women are either naked, non-speaking objects as with Crastor’s daughters and various other mistreated prostitutes who appear as set dressing, or they are angry, brutal “empowered” characters. Sansa is the only character who really operates in the middle ground. This is the same issue I have with programmes like Made in Chelsea, films like the Fast and Furious franchise and even my beloved greatest film of all time John Wick. Women are used as set dressing to tell you something about the environment, or they are “empowered” by being violent. There is an eagerness to display the gender imbalance of the period through constant depictions of rape and prostitution, alongside a paranoia that this is sexist (if the era you’re depicting is sexist, then yes...some of your images will be sexist) that the show attempts to counteract with extremely powerful women.
There are male characters in the show like Jon Sneuh, who are protagonists but who are not completely brutal and violent. Daenerys’ two old cheerleaders don’t have to constantly demonstrate their brutality. Daenerys, Circle and Arya all exhibit brutal behaviour, as if they must be even more violent than their male counterparts. Maybe this makes sense for the society that is being depicted here, even now in real live 2020 we’re still telling women to be “more assertive”, encouraging women to pick up male characteristics rather than encouraging men to listen more carefully, to leave space in conversation, and to empathise more.
Gender representation in Game of Thrones is, on occasion, appalling, but as a document of how modern, big budget productions wrestle with this tricky area it is fascinating. There is a desire to portray women as actual characters, but an apparently irrepressible urge to use them as naked set dressing. It is possible to demonstrate that an environment is seedy without using nipples as an indicator (5 whole nipples on show in this bar so keep an eye on your drink and check your pockets regularly for your valuables.) The scenes at the Prancing Pony in Lord of the Rings are seedy, the pirate bars in Pirates of the Carribbean are seedy. Not one single nipple is required to demonstrate that, there’s just dirt and jeering and bad teeth. Naked women are used as shorthand for all things sordid, if you don’t believe me? Just watch five to ten minutes of The Wolf of Wall Street.
As I’ve been writing this, I’ve realised that the dichotomy between powerful/violent and silent/naked in this programme is a fascinating and complicated issue. Having taken a nice long break from the show, I’m looking forwards to digging into this more.
Also this episode was so dark I could barely see anything, i thought it was the brightness settings on my laptop but it turns out that no... it was just insanely visually dark.

Arya Stark’s Death & Nissa Nissa Theory
!!DON’T WORRY, THIS ISN’T A SPOILER FOR S8!!! (Probably.) But this is however, a potential (maybe) spoiler for the books and A Dream of Spring.
Ahhhhh, it’s that time of year again where I post my GOT/ASOIAF theories So let’s get right on it. Because the show doesn’t really touch base on these things and if you’re a show-only fan, I’ll just do a quick recap. (You’d be surprised as to how many show fans don’t know these stuff.) Pretty sure the show has never mentioned Nissa Nissa before.
So I’m sure we all know who Azor Ahai is. The Prince Who Was Promised. Same thing. Today, we’re going to talk about his wife. Nissa Nissa. So if you don’t know who Nissa Nissa is, she was Azor Ahai’s wife. Who from based off legend, died when AA thrusted his sword through her heart to forge the legendary sword, Lightbringer. AA worked thirty days and nights to forge the hero’s sword. But when he tempered it in water, the sword broke. So he worked fifty days and nights to forge another sword and tempered it in a lion’s heart. But the sword broke again. Until he worked one hundred days and nights, and eventually, he finished and drove the sword through NN heart. And with her cry of anguish, ecstasy, and courage, the sword forged into Lightbringer Her blood and soul went into the sword to beat the Others. (White Walkers.) Some people think that NN could be Daenerys. She definitely has the traits to be NN. And some people think NN was Lyanna. Rhaegar thrusting his “sword” into her to bring forth Lightbringer, (Jon.) Some even think it’s Sansa? So here, I wanna talk about Arya, and how she could potentially be NN, at least in the books. BOOK SPOILERS DOWN BELOW.
As obvious, this is a Jonrya post because I’m basing AA off Jon. In the books at least, this is a theory I’ve had in mind for the longest time. In the show, it might just be Dany, but in the books it could be said otherwise.
We know for a fact that before GRRM wrote AGOT his intended goal was to have Jon and Arya fall in love with each other, and have some sort of “star crossed” lovers arc because of Jon’s vows and Arya thinking that they were siblings. And while the Jon/Arya romance storyline isn’t drafted in the books now, you can tell that some of GRRM’s original ideas about Jon/Arya still made it onto the page. He clearly has Jon and Arya set up for something VERY, VERY, IMPORTANT for the endgame of ASOIAF. And I for one, think that Arya will be Jon’s NN.
Jon’s whole storyline in ADWD is basically about Arya. Most of his thoughts and motivations are about her, and in the end, he DIES for her. I kind of like to think of this as a nice parallel IF Arya were to become NN. Bc Arya is always associated with DEATH. That’s her whole arc. It’s murder, killing, revenge. But she’s also broken, and she struggles with losing some of her identity bc of death. We can speculate from some of TWOW chapters that Arya might learn of Jon’s death at the wall. And to me, I think that might become a breaking point for Arya. It could be the driving force for her to finally leave Braavos and go on a whole murder rampage or something to avenge her favorite brother’s death. She’ll go home because of Jon. Obviously we know that Jon’s going to come back, but he probably won’t be the same.
We know that they’re going to reunite in the books, bc that was confirmed by GRRM. The Starks would reunite. And we know that GRRM has been setting up some sort of big clash with Jon and the Others. So maybe after his resurrection, Arya comes back and they reunite he’ll focus more on fighting the Others and leave the Watch. Since he’s died and all that. Obviously he’ll probably have to avenge his death first or something. But in the actual endgame, if he is set up to become AA, his NN will be Arya. I know people might suspect that it’s Dany, bc from the looks of it on the text, there’s enough evidence to support that. But I think that like the N+A=J theory, Dany being NN is a RED HERRING. (Don’t get offended if you believe in N+A=J 😂😂)
Jon falling in love with Dany is plausible. And by taking a look at the evidence, Jon and Dany can be the tragic lovers tale. Though I think Dany’s story will end in another way, that doesn’t involve her getting stabbed in the heart with Lightbringer. We know from the text that Dany is suppose to get betrayed 3 times. One for love, one for blood, and one for gold.
“Three fires must you light… One for life and one for death and one to love… Three mounts must you ride… One to bed and one to dread and one to love… Three treasons will you know… Once for blood and once for gold and once for love…”
If we interpret the text, the one that hasn’t happened yet, is the betrayal for love. And I think it’s going to be Jon. However, while people assume that the betrayal will be something like he kills her to stop the Others or he betrays her for the throne, I don’t interpret it like that. I interpret it as Jon will LEAVE her FOR love. His love for his sister. (This is HUGE speculation tho.) Mirri Maz Duur for blood, Jorah maybe for gold, (as in to return home), and Jon for love. Maybe that’s her 3rd betrayal. Jon leaving Daenerys for Arya. Exactly how he’s going to betray her for Arya, i’m not sure yet.
But more on the text, one firm reason why I also believe Arya is NN, is because of this passage in her first chapter in AGOT:
“You had best run back to your room, little sister. Septa Mordane will surely be lurking. The longer you hide, the sterner the penance. You’ll be sewing all through winter. When the spring thaw comes, they will find your body with a needle still locked tight between your frozen fingers.”
I find it interesting that this quote comes from Jon himself. It almost feels like this quote is an omen to her death. The “longer she hides, the harder the punishment will be.” In the coming books, I see it as Arya will have to make a CHOICE. What that choice could be idk. But I suspect it might have something to do with the Others and with Jon. Because in the next line it says that she’ll be “sewing through WINTER.” Maybe her choice will be something like abandoning her anger and revenge in favor of duty and saving the realm. The longer she takes to choose between those two things, will cost her. The punishment being the realm destructs, and everyone she loves dies, etc. Maybe she will have to choose between avenging her family, or becoming this some sort of deity to save the people and the world. And that last line in the passage, “When winter is over and spring comes, they will find her with a “needle” still in her, with her hands wrapped around it.” To me, I interpret this as the sort of “aftermath” of Winter. If she were to choose to save the realm, this is meant to mean that the people will “remember” her and remember what she’s done in order to save them all. When they “find her body with a needle still in her,” it means the people will acknowledge her sacrifice. Songs will be sung and stories will be written about her. And of course the “needle” could mean the flaming sword Lightbringer that has been stabbed in her, and frozen between her fingers. That was the sword that saved the realm all through winter, the one that killed her in order to make the ultimate sacrifice. It’s all so deeply metaphorical in a way.
But ultimately, the reason why I think Arya is NN and Jon is AA, is because of how well it fits their respective story arcs. It’s no doubt that Jon and Arya love each other. Whether it’s romantic or sibling love, that’s up to you to interpret. But Arya and Jon would die for each other. At least in the books. Jon throughout the series constantly thinks of Arya. Knowing that he might see her again is what pushes him to strive and continue living. And in Dance, Jon is so conflicted between “love and duty” because of Arya. And in the end, Jon chooses love over duty. And because of it, he dies. He gets killed because of his love for Arya. ”What do you know of my heart priestess? What do you know of my sister?” And in the books, it’s mostly Jon that helps Arya to strive to continue living. So she’ll be able to see him again. Jon helps her regain a little of her humanity. Sure Arya loves her family, but throughout her journey, it’s JON who she always tries to go back to. To the wall where Jon is. Because of Jon, she strives to never forget that she is a STARK. Arya’s arc is constantly attributed with death. She can be a sort of champion for death. And Jon’s arc is all about life. He fights for life. How fitting and tragic would it be, if by the end of ASOIAF, it’s Arya that will die FOR Jon. Like how he died for her. She will choose to sacrifice her life to save the people like how Jon chose to sacrifice his life to “save” her. Arya will choose to do her duty to save everyone she loves, and Jon will do the same. Yes love is the death of duty. But this time around, love will be the source of duty. It will be the bringer of life. (It’s all so biblical and full of ironies. Something that GRRM loves.)
Anyways I went off. Congrats if you made it to the end of this. 😂😂 It all feels like weird fan fic lmao. Please feel free to counter-argue me, I wanna know your guy’s stance too. :)
Also this post was originally a comment I made on a reddit post regarding Arya being Nissa Nissa. I wanted to share it here too. Do you think that there’s a connection between Jamie and Cersei being twins and having a relationship and Arya and Jon being the only ones to look alike in their family and being super close? I ship Jonerys but I feel like in the books Jon and Arya are way too close for it not to mean or add up to anything?? Martins original idea was for them to end up together too
Anon, you’re after my own heart.
Jon x Arya parallels with Jaime x Cersei both on a relationship and an individual character level is one of my favourites to discuss and is so underappreciated.
And I’m always here to rant about what I think Jon and Arya are all about! I have so many, many thoughts about how important their relationship is to their respective narratives.
Buckle in, mate, I’m about to rant to hell. All my bottled up emotions over my faves, here we fucking go:
To start off with, I 1000% think there’s an important connection between both relationships. Jaime and Jon have incredibly specific parallels, as do Arya and Cersei. Like a century ago, I talked about the idea of balance in the series and that for every action, there’s a kind of reaction, so to speak. For me, the counterbalance to Jaime x Cersei is Jon x Arya.
Jon and Jaime parallels (keeping this short as it’s been discussed by others):
Swore vows to organisations created to protect with their lives and remain celibate.
Lord Commanders of their respective organisations.
Where Jaime was the youngest Kingsguard in history, Jon became one of the youngest Lord Commanders.
Break their vows twice each (one being celibacy).
Mother died in childbirth.
Mained/disfigured sword hands. Jon’s hand is burnt while Jaime’s is completely removed.
Nicknames designed to mock, re: Lord Snow / Kingslayer.
Jon refuses Winterfell while Jaime refuses Casterly Rock.
King foreshadowing in both their chapters.
Arya and Cersei parallels:
As children, both dressed in breeches and showed interest in training with swords.
Resent the patriarchal standards set on women and vocally refuse to follow what’s expected of them.
Identify and draw strength from the sigil of their respective houses.
Hold to their grudges. They never forget the ones that hurt their house or their family.
Have had their heads shaved by/for religious organisations, but where Cersei had hers forcibly removed and lost her agency, Arya gained hers by doing it willingly.
Both their ambitions are rooted in gaining a position of influence not often afforded to their gender. Arya asks if she can be a king’s conciliator, build castles and be a High Septon. While Cersei did become Queen, it was taking control over the small council and ruling in her own right that she really wanted, instead of being dictated around by men or the pretty wife birthing children.
Daddy’s little girls that look up to their fathers and attempt to emulate them after their deaths.
Difficulty with one sibling while being incredibly close to another.
Both are told they will marry a king, but misleadingly, not the ones in power at the time. Maggy tells Cersei she will wed the king, but this was long before Robert’s Rebellion and Aerys was in power while Rhaegar was still a prince, so the witch wouldn’t have made sense at the time. Ned tells Arya she’ll marry a king, but it’s Sansa that’s betrothed to the crown prince, so again, it shouldn’t make sense. In both cases, the choice of words is particular but telling.
Another fascinating anti-parallel is their opposite developments in temperament. Arya and Cersei as children are incredibly similar: willful, ambitious, quick to anger. But as the series progresses, through the FM, Arya learns to be humble, to control her emotions, to be patient and listen. Cersei, however, dissolves into anger, impatience, and pride.
These are mostly off the top of my head, but moving on to specific relationship parallels:
Jon x Arya / Jaime x Cersei:
Jaime and Cersei are twins, with classic Lannister features. Arya and Jon are the only children that look like Starks, and look like one another.
Obviously, they’re incredibly close and neither ever stops thinking of the other.
Jon and Jaime have both broken their vows for their sisters. Jaime breaks his for Cersei when he beds her and fathers her children, and Jon breaks his for Arya when he tries riding to Winterfell to save her (!!!)
This is more of an anti-parallel. Jon and Jaime both receive letters about their sister’s needing their help. Jon gets the Pink Letter of Ramsay demanding fArya’s return, and Jaime receives one from Cersei begging him to rescue her. The letter is the catalyst that drives Jon to break his vows, whereas Jaime burns the letter Cersei sends as he grows apart from her. Poetry.
Jon and Jaime compare the women they’re attracted to with their sisters. Jon sees Arya in Ygritte and Jaime thinks of Cersei with Brienne. Oh, and Arya thinks of Jon with Gendry, oof.
Another anti-parallel that’s less obvious: Arya thinks of Jon as being the only one that would want her after her traumatising experiences escaping King’s Landing and wouldn’t care about who she’d become now. Jaime barely makes it back to King’s Landing, back to Cersei, and she finds his disfigurement and the changes to his personality after his own traumatic experiences unappealing and starts keeping her distance.
There might be more but admittedly, it’s been a while since I’ve read Jaime and Cersei’s chapters but there we have it.
To answer the first part of your ask - yes, there’s clearly a connection between these two relationships. I like to think of them as two sides of the same coin - but where Jaime and Cersei have all the toxicity you’ll never find with Jon and Arya. Essentially, they’re anti-parallels of each other, evidenced by Jaime and Cersei growing apart where Jon and Arya still very much love and miss each other. So where Jaime and Cersei are doomed to end tragically and aggressively, Jon and Arya’s bond is strong enough to stand the test of time and circumstance.
Jaime x Cersei is not the relationship to aspire to, but to demonstrate what happens when the individuals and the nature of the relationship is twisted to something corrupt. Cersei and Jaime essentially see one another as an extension of themselves, whereas Jon and Arya are one another’s source of support, but still very much their own people. Healthy af, yo.
So what does this mean for Jon and Arya?
From a writer’s perspective, having a character constantly bring up another and how much they love them and miss them and would do anything to be with them seems to be a pretty big red flag that they will, in fact, do anything for them.
It’s why I never understand those that say Arya and Jon’s relationship can be substituted with other characters.
In my opinion, there’s definitely something happening in the future that needs the reader to understand how much these two mean to each other. It’ll culminate in a climax that’s basically going to drive them from that point onwards and be a turning point in their narratives.
In Jon’s situation, we’ve seen the start of such a climax. His constant mentioning of Arya and agonising over her in ADWD comes to a head when he’s stabbed for trying to to save her. Such a moment wouldn’t have had the same impact for anyone else but Arya, because their relationship is the only one convincing enough. In the midst of knowing an army of the dead is coming and the drama with Stannis and the freefolk, Jon can’t stop thinking about Arya. We’ve literally had it hammered into our skulls that he’d do anything for her.
Surprise, surprise - he does.
And in that moment, as we’ve seen from the show, Jon Snow stops being Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch and starts his journey towards becoming the King in the North. Because of how much he loves Arya.
I very much believe the Battle of the Bastards will happen, but differently than in the show. The North is currently rallying behind Arya’s name and when Jon’s brought back to life, he’s still going to be out of his mind with worry for her. And he won’t have any vows holding him back from bringing her home (home being by his side because Jon calls himself Arya’s home and I just want to remind everyone of that, thanks). Fuck me, I’m excited. He’s 10000% gonna go to war for her and I am HERE FOR IT.
In this case, Arya being Jon’s favourite person and GRRM making sure she’s brought up in almost all of his POV chapters pays off.
For Arya, we’ve yet to see it happen, but I’m predicting that it’s the news of Jon’s death that’s going to force her to leave Braavos. We know that she gets news from the Wall from Eastwatch, and she’s struggling to truly become No One as the FM want because of how deep her connection to her family and identity runs. Jon is never far from her thoughts and plays a very important role in who Arya Stark really is.
When disguised as Blind Beth or any of her other identities, she still thinks about Jon. When she finds a deserter of the Night’s Watch, despite the fact that she’s not supposed to be Arya anymore, she still doles out justice for breaking his vows.
So, even though she’s a thousand miles away, Jon and the Night’s Watch are still very present in her narrative.
And we know how much Arya loves Jon. Damn, do we know.
I do believe the news of Jon’s murder is going to spread. And when it reaches Braavos, and finally Arya, it’s going to absolutely shatter her. Arya, like Cersei, does not forgive and forget easily. She’ll never be able to return to her training after hearing about her favourite person’s death, and she’ll be on the first boat out. Probably to go enact some justice.
The foreshadowing is present in this little nugget in AFFC, when Arya is listening to the NW deserter sing:
He is a man of the Night's Watch, she thought, as he sang about some stupid lady throwing herself off some stupid tower because her stupid prince was dead. The lady should go kill the ones who killed her prince.
Which I think is exactly what Arya is going to try and do. She won’t, of course, lots of shit still has to happen before they reunite, but she’s definitely going to try. Fucking p o e t r y.
But the point is, it’ll be her love for Jon that draws Arya back to her true self and sets her on course to reclaiming her identity and returning home. To make it convincing, it makes complete sense to have Arya think of Jon as the only one that ever accepted her for who she was, that loved her unconditionally, that would want her despite all the horrific acts she was forced to commit to survive. He’s the one she’ll willingly and without doubt break her vows to the FM for.
Love is the death of duty.
Jon and Arya’s love for each other could very well be the death of their respective duties to their organisation and vows, and be the catalyst they each need to propel their narratives towards the climax of the story, re: the War of the Dawn, and beyond.
This is why I never understand those that think they’re interchangeable with other characters. They simply aren’t? Everything I’ve mentioned can only ever be applied to Jon and Arya. No other relationship has been so deeply developed, nor as intrinsically integrated into their POVs. Literally everything I’ve said is only applicable because they never shut up about each other.
I don’t think this contradicts Jonerys tbh, but I think it’s an important reminder that Jon and Arya’s relationship is very much as vital to the story as Jon and Dany’s. There’s a reason I ship them as an OT3, and I’m in love with Arya and Dany’s parallels as well. Arya and Daenerys are and will always be the two most important women in Jon Snow’s life, and in turn, he’s just as important in theirs.
I tried answering this as objectively as I could, and I hope this was what you were looking for!
Thank you so much for a brilliant ask!!

Did somebody say Pokémon AU??
I honestly have no clue if this has been done or not. But here' what I'd think a Pokémon AU would look like complete with Pokémon teams.
So for the most part everything follows the show with the added bonus of Pokémon being a thing. The Magnus Institute exists to investigate and catalogue paranormal and supernatural experiences that fall outside the range of regular Pokémon shenanigans. So in the beginning, Jon is an even more cynical ass that chalks everything up to being just typical ghost Pokémon messing with people. But there are greater forces at work that fall outside of even Arceus's range of understanding. And there is more to fear than just Pokémon lurking in the shadows.
Jon: He wasn't like most kids with grand dreams of being a Pokémon master. He was and still is much more content reading a book than training Pokémon. All the ones in his team caught him more than the other way around which is really just par for the course for Jon really. He also can’t be bothered to name any of them.
Absol: It just started following him after the brush with the Leitner and just refused to leave. It tries to warn Jon about bad situations but the man has zero self-preservation instincts. Essentially acts like a beleaguered mom looking after her self destructive toddler.
Rotom: It really just kinda came with the tape recorder.
Unknown: Jon didn't intentionally catch it. The unknown just live in the Archives and made themselves at home in his office until one finally just tapped into a pokeball conveniently left on his desk. It likes helping him find real statements in the Archives and tries to work with its brethren and Absol to warn Jon about incoming dangers. He’s just too buried in statements to see ominous warnings literally floating above his head.
Buneary: It was the first and only Pokemon he ever purposefully caught. It hated him when he caught it and it still hates his guts now but they both refuse to let the other go out of spite. Tim gets a kick about teasing him about it.
Purugly: His first pokemon given to him when his grandma's purugly had kittens. It spends all its time skulking around the archives just doing cat things.
Chandelure: He caught it in the woods as a litwik as a kid and used it as a reading light. He doesn't believe in the stories surrounding them stealing your life force but it definitely does and he’s just too hyped on caffeine to notice.
Martin: I imagine Martin as the breeder type who loves to nurture Pokémon from eggs and just overly spoil his entire team. He of course names all his pokemon after Romantic poets.
Joltik: Used to belong to Jon before he gave it away after the Leitner incident. He really just kinda threw the ball as far as he could and it hit Martin upside the head. Jon doesn't realize that Martin was that kid or that that Joltik was his and it makes both of them very sad. The only pokemon he hasn’t named since he doesn’t know what Jon named it and it didn’t feel right to change it.
Araquanid: He named it Byron after Lord Byron. Pokémon who, depending on who you ask, either drowns unsuspecting Pokémon or cares for them. Fits Martin to a T if you ask me and he would take pity on a poor, misunderstood spider.
Sylveon: He named it Felicia after Felicia Hemans. He raised it from an egg he found in the backyard. It was also his first Pokemon period that he hid in his room because his mom didn't want any Pokémon in the house. When she did find it she begrudgingly allowed it. She always seemed to dote on it more than she ever did Martin himself...
Klefki: Named it Will after William Wordsworth. This little guy is half the reason Martin is able to get into half the places he does.
Chansey: Named Keats. Another Pokemon raised from an egg, it is just as doting as Martin is to the others in the archives. It is also consequently the most powerful member on his team.
Zorua: Named Percy after Percy Shelley. He initially thought he was catching a volpix when he caught it. He bonded with it over having to hide who he truly is too. It is the overprotective guard dog he deserves that no one realizes how dangerous it truly is.
Tim: his team is comprised of beautiful Pokémon that can absolutely kick anyone's ass at a moments notice. They are all as salty as they are beautiful. He names his pokemon after famous actors and actresses.
Roserade: Named Angelina after Angelina Jolie, it was the first Pokemon he ever caught, the two are a dazzling duo charming anyone that crosses their path.
Yamask: It showed up and started hanging around him after his brother was taken by the Stranger. After that, he knew without a shadow of a doubt his brother was dead. He dotes on it constantly because of it despite how much it creeps others out. He, of course, named it Danny.
Milotic: Named Kiera after Kiera Knightly, he evolved it from a feebas he hatched from an egg. He still treats it like his baby.
Lopunny: It was his first Pokémon. His brother gave it to him as a gift and he took it as a challenge to get it to like him enough to evolve. He named it Audrey after Audrey Hepburn.
Liepard: Its stealthy nature is extremely helpful when scouting locations and doing research for the institute. It also hates Jon as much as Tim does. He named it Jackman after Hugh Jackman.
Diancie: He inherited it from his bro after his passing. Danny found it while exploring an old cave and used to travel everywhere with him. It and Danny are still inseparable. Its name is Mila after Mila Kunis.
Basira: Her team is as practical as she is. They are all extremely powerful and could easily take down the entire league if she wanted to. She just doesn’t want to. Her no-nonsense attitude means she just doesn’t see the point in naming any of her pokemon.
Arcanine: What's a cop without their traditional canine companion? Her arcanine fell in love with Daisy's before they even had a clue they were made for each other and set them up in a very 101 Dalmatian style.
Serperior: Her first pokemon given to her from the local pokemon professor. They share the same unimpressed icy stare.
Mightyena: They are truly cut from the same cloth and is honestly more of her partner than her official partner.
Alolan Ninetails: Her strongest Pokémon and her fiercest protector. It loves playing mind games with people.
Umbreon (evolved during the Raynor incident. It seems especially keen on picking up on paranormal activities making it very useful to have on hand)
Mewtwo (cause if anyone has a legendary Pokémon, it's Basira. She caught it during one of the section cases she took and just didn't tell anyone)
Daisy: She is the “gotta collect them all” type of pokemon hunter. She catches any new pokemon she comes across and sends them to the local professor cause she has to fill that pokedex.
Arcanine: Second verse same as the first with this one of being a staple of being a police officer. It will look for any excuse to burn someone. The only person it likes besides Daisy is Basira and her Arcanine.
Houndoom: Her first pokemon she got as a houndour. She terrorized the neighborhood kids with it and is essential for her hunting down both new pokemon and perps.
Treevant: She caught it as a phantump after it showed up as she was looking into a cold case. At least if she never was able to file an official report, she at least knew how the case ended.
Sawsbuck: She caught it as a deerling and was the first pokemon she ever caught. What kinda hunter hasn’t caught a deer right?
Espurr: She got it after the whole coffin incident. She just kinda cam across it by chance and felt a kinship with it about having to restrain a flood of overwhelming power it holds.
Lyanroc Midnight form: It is as vicious as she is when in full Hunt mode.
Melanie: She is the one type kinda trainer and it’s, of course, ghost types. She is determined to prove the paranormal exists outside of ghost type pokemon.
Gengar: It was the Pokémon that started her fascination with ghosts and the first Pokémon she ever had.
Honedge: She found it when looking into that ghost train and couldn’t not catch it. When she’s threatening to stab someone, she uses honedge to do so.
Sableye: Found in an abandoned, haunted mine shaft.
Banette: Cause what kinda ghost hunter doesn’t have a haunted doll?
Gourgeist: She caught it as a pumpkaboo on her very first ghost hunting trip.
Spiritomb: Caught it poking around the wrong place at the wrong time she came across it and had to catch it cause if anyone would have a spiritomb, it would be her. It’s just as bloodthirsty as she is.
Sasha: Do I mean this team was made by Sasha or Not-Sasha? The answer is yes.
Mimikyu: The first pokemon she ever caught. Wait... wasn’t it supposed to be a pikachu?
Ditto: This one just speaks for itself.
Baynette: After she caught it she started reading up on the stories and pores surrounding certain Pokémon that put her on the path of working at the institute.
Gothitelle: It started crying nearly immediately after Sasha started working for the Institute but didn't buy into the wives tale about them predicting their trainer's deaths. It mysteriously disappeared after the Prentis incident.
Claydol: She found it wandering around artifact storage and felt bad for it.
Parasect: Her first pokemon. She really just found it as a paras in her parents' backyard as a kid and begged them to let her keep it. It evolved during the Prentis incident while trying to help her fend off the worms.

That was Rhaegar's dagger? It is confirmed?I hope so because that battle was weird
Hello Anon, Thanks for the ask & sorry for the delay in responding. I’ve been grappling with my disappointment with s8e3.
First of all, am a woman who isn’t misogynist and isn’t troubled by the fact that Arya Stark was the one to kill the Night King.
Her show avatar has proven herself to be very capable and I think the spar between her and Brienne in season 7 was meant to hint at it. Also, we’ve seen through various seasons in the show that every chance Arya got, she practiced her water-dancing moves. And then when she was in Bravos, she eventually learned stealth & moves that she exhibited during the fight. This book quote about her:
“Swift as a deer. Quiet as a shadow. Fear cuts deeper than swords. Quick as a snake. Calm as still water.”
isn’t unfounded and would perhaps be even more relevant to her character arc in the books. So yeah, she could well deliver the final blow to the Night King.
What troubled me the most are these questions:
1. What was the Night King about? Was he simply suicidal and wanted someone to just kill him? (I’m trying my best to not include sarcasm here but you can assume..)
2. What was Jon’s entire character arc about?
Is his destiny the Iron Throne? Yes, perhaps. But is that the most important thing about him? To gain political power & sit the Iron Throne? If so, the SHOW did a very bad job of proving him capable. They’ve shown him being a sad, unwilling person who is constantly thrust into positions of power and get killed or nearly get killed on various occasions. (I’ll stick to the show version due to REASONS)
3. Imagine what if Jon had remained dead?
- NO ONE WILL BE BOTHERED ABOUT THE ARMY OF THE DEAD.
- Daenerys will at some point return to Westeros and claim & win the Iron Throne.
- Winterfell will remain in the hands of Boltons’ and if by some miracle, the Starks win it back, they’ll bend the knee the moment they see 3 dragons and the six kingdoms marching on them. Cersei’s “no one can hold the North” was in light of the absence of dragons but Dany has 3 of them so… it’s just common sense really.
Sidenote: Dany, a monarch, is listening to snide remarks and taking so much bullshit only because of her respect(love) for Jon. She would not even be there if it weren’t for him. Also, normally, when the KING bends the knee, every twat with a tongue doesn’t get to go behind him and question the Queen whom the said King bent the knee to. I don’t know what the show is trying to convey.
- (Continuing from what if Jon wasn’t resurrected…) If Dany never went beyond the Wall, she won’t lose a dragon & it would have to be Bran’s crossing of the Wall that’ll be its downfall & not an undead dragon.
- Eventually, there would be a war and it might end up the same way. With Arya making the final kill right before everything is seemingly lost.
Also, I haven’t mentioned f(?)Aegon storyline here because even if he’s a Blackfyre, dragonseeds can ride a dragon & Dany might still find a 2nd dragon rider. Besides, I’m trying to think in the show-only-universe.
4. As for the dagger that killed the Night King, the showrunners explicitly stated that Arya hit him in the same place in his chest where the children embedded the dragonglass. First of all, how did she know where to stab him and why was there a gap in the armor (mind you, the Others’ armor has magic is not the regular steel thing, its Ice magic)? Did someone tell Arya where to hit him or was it coincidental?
Fluke of luck, I’d say!
6. Why did Theon have to die? Bran literally asked him to run to his certain death. Like… wtf?!!!
5. To top it all, D&D saying that they did it for shock value/unpredictability was a bit of a wtf moment for me. We’ve HAD 7 seasons and 2 episodes of unpredictability and now was the time for ANSWERS!!! If Bran had spoken SOMETHING instead of sitting and warging into ravens of the Raventree hill (dead tree reminded me of it lol), explained everyone’s role without giving away the ending perhaps but in a way that it would have made sense in the end, I’d be okay really. Something like, “Jon, you’re a watcher, you go watch! Arya, you be NO ONE.” I know, so lame but I didn’t get 2 years to write the scene!!!
For all these reasons and more (but that’s not the point of this ASK, I just realized), you have to forgive me for being critical of the WRITING for this episode.
Now, coming back to the actual ask - why I think the dagger was Rhaegar’s
We saw this image in s7:

The text reads:
When Aegon the conqueror forged his Seven Kingdoms, he and his descendants would often decorate their blades with dragonglass feeling a kinship with the stone. The royal fashion for dragonglass ornamentation soon spread throughout the Seven Kingdoms to those wealthy enough to afford it. Hilts and pommels were and are the most common decoration for dragonglass if too brittle to make a useful crossguard. Indeed, its very brittleness is what relegate it to the great houses and the most successful merchants.
The dagger is Valyrian steel with a dragonbone hilt (black colored) and a ruby embedded in it. Needless to say, it belonged to the Targaryens. We know of only one recent Targaryen who was all about rubies – Rhaegar Targaryen.
“Rubies flew like drops of blood from the chest of a dying prince, and he sank to his knees in the water and with his last breath murmured a woman’s name.”
In season 7, when Littlefinger(LF) gave the dagger to Bran, he confirmed it’s the same catspaw dagger that was sent to kill Bran and so Bran should have it. And Bran passed it on to Arya.
This catspaw dagger, as you must surely remember, was taken by Catelyn to King’s Landing where LF vouched that he owned it at one point but he had lost it to Tyrion when Tyrion lost a bet against Jaime.
In books, there’s a very famous Tyrion quote (which leads me to believe in Tyrion-traitor theories)
“Whatever you may believe of me, Lady Stark, I promise you this – I never bet against my family.”
Long story short, Tyrion tried convincing Catelyn of his innocence but she wouldn’t listen and took him hostage.
There’s another Jaime chapter in books where he’s trying to discuss with Cersei who would’ve sent the assassin after Bran and then said that it “used to be” in Littlefinger’s possession but he actually lost it in a bet to Robert Baratheon.
Now before I share my views about how Robert got his hands on that dagger, we have to think how Littlefinger got his hands on that precious heirloom of the Targaryen dynasty. He just took it from the armory.
Robert didn’t really care for gold - where it came from or how it was spent as long as he had enough to support his “lifestyle” (drinking & whoring). And I believe Littlefinger has not only been stealing coins or diverting funds from the Crown, but he was stealing other tangibles assets as well.
“His last letter mentions the rebels only briefly before beseeching me to ship him some old tapestries of Robert’s.”- Cersei: (ADWD)
Here, LF had sent her a request for Robert’s “old” tapestries. OLD? Robert just died, like less than 3 years ago and Baratheons still ruled the Seven Kingdoms even if it’s just in name.
Petyr laughed. “Perhaps I shall. Or better still, to our sweet Cersei. Though I should not speak harshly of her, she is sending me some splendid tapestries. Isn’t that kind of her?”
In this context, I think “old” really meant Targaryen era tapestries that can be found lying neglected in some basement underneath the Red Keep. Which implies, most of their relics are up for taking only if one knew where to look. So, in my opinion, Littlefinger took the catspaw dagger from the royal armory at some point and gave it back to Robert in a public setting where everyone could see it exchange hands & conclude that Petyr was NOT the owner.
Finally, I think that Rhaegar Targaryen possessed the dagger on his person when he rode into the battle at the Trident. I believe it was a combat necessity to carry both- a dagger and a sword. Surely Rhaegar, the Dragon Prince would have carried his Valyrian Steel dagger with him.
As for Robert, he took it from Rhaegar as a winner’s trophy when Rhaegar fell but due to his deep-rooted scorn for Targaryens, never really cared for it afterward.
I hope this makes sense because I’m not really the one for writing metas. I’ve tried to answer your question but I’m too impatient. Lol Lemme know if you have any follow-up questions.
