A Void Of Memories
A Void of Memories by Jordan Zachary Ellis
I had a dream once that I could not recall.
Actually, that is inaccurate. I remember two things about this dream:
Pitch black emptiness, and the sound of your voice.
The void was strange.
No temperature to speak of,
I just kind of existed,
But everywhere on my nonexistent body
I felt this strange roughness,
Like I was made of sharkskin
While hugging another shark.
The words I heard were in your voice,
But I don't think it was you.
It was too warm, too welcoming,
It was the audible equivalent
Of receiving a hug from that
Old partner you don't hate
But definitely do not love anymore.
"Just move on." You stated,
Not suggested,
Over and over and over and over.
It was like a homeless man, forced
To acknowledge that his own shortcomings
Were the cause of someone else.
You repeated those heartbreaking three words
Until all I heard was "Just move."
And then, much like yourself, I did.

After Thought by Jordan Zachary Ellis
After Thought by Jordan Zachary Ellis
Silver linings hang over head Like poor judgments Creating better memories. Thoughts transparent form the mask, Milky eyes — Windows long since wiped. Lines of laughter long forgotten; A mountainous range of emotion Show scars cut deeper than the ocean. Aeons of What-If’s left behind the barren, The wooden door that connects Being with all that exists beyond. And those wisps of What-If’s Have…

Cracks
Cracks by Jordan Zachary Ellis A wave washes over; Its a river Rushing from self ridicule Into the pits of a particular persona. A log rolls down the bank, Pulled in and thrown into the current Like bad judgement Magnetizing malicious lust in place of love. Sucked into the stream, it struggles To seek a safer path; Lost memories are like massive hurdles. Cracks in the old stump Soften the hard, Weighing on the shoulders of its very essence. Rushing to its doom, Peace lives in diving off the deep end. The log leaps over the edge, River giving way to a waterfall Of life changing choices And an ocean of unknown consequences. May the cushion of the cracks Now soften the splash.

The Mandoline
Behind the stilled waves of hillside That take form from beyond the barren wild, Lies a serene little patch of green, A bustling beautiful forest of styles. In the most remote corner of thicket, Adjacent with more twisting tors, Lay the lair of the Mandoline. Yet, there seemed to be no more. No chirps livened the sky, No critters in the trees. Alone amongst the woods and brush Lived the Mandoline…

Morning Madness
Daybreak blushes upon the sky; Another somber morning breaks the night. Fresh dew and the air commingle Like visceral thoughts of hope and despair. Reality may subsume the secret dreams Dropped in the mind, But the subconscious stitchery stings Like the briar thorns that guard the roses. A trick by Reality to dissemble dead delusions. From one world to the other, One must lightly come upon…

Devil's Discourse
Devil’s Discourse
Chance has danced off a dozen times, Shadows give light to the Devil’s grin. A Succubus to sway in the shade; A vampire inspired narcissist. The void reminiscent eclipses the ethereal, Casting dark and slow like ink in water. Entangled in her exquisite ends, entranced As a moth flying for the flame, barely believing. Whispers within call forth will, While desire distances itself with distraught…

Silence
I have learned a lot in this life I have lived. Yet, I have grown into a soft spoken soul. Death has graced me more than I'd like to admit, And once, even let me witness his grim hand. I have sat upon cloud nine with the doves of love. The drop back down to earth does not tickle. A fickle thing, Cupid's arrow, balance brought to the Scythe. For some it heals, for others it hurts. A curse, I once thought of this entire place. The creatures too, simply created one big zoo. I have been the Willow, weeping tears of woe. I have been the Sun, serenity shining on company. I have learned a lot in this life I have lived, My words are just better pronounced on paper.

From one world to the other,
One must lightly come upon landfall
So as not to fall upon this new land.
A cauldron of chaos,
Yet a place of pellucid peace,
Dulcet destruction of the dream

The Mandoline
Behind the stilled waves of hillside That take form from beyond the barren wild, Lies a serene little patch of green, A bustling beautiful forest of styles. In the most remote corner of thicket, Adjacent with more twisting tors, Lay the lair of the Mandoline. Yet, there seemed to be no more. No chirps livened the sky, No critters in the trees. Alone amongst the woods and brush Lived the Mandoline beast. It picked berries in the bush Eaten between rows of fangs, It climbed the trees with claws, And roared reminiscent of a pain. It felt so alone inside; Isolation caused it to weep. Its voice scared the rest away, Leaving a wound cut so deep. And then one day, There came a change. A deep low chirp; Sudden, and so strange. Up hopped the Mandoline, To the canopy, it must see. Just where did it come from? What could this noise be? Sitting on the lowest of branches, Bending it to touch the ground, There rested the Benivolus Bird; The source of the screwy sound. Briskly, a bond was formed. And from it, a means to an end. Both the Mandoline and Benivolus Bird Had finally made a friend. And so they lived out their lives, At peace, allies to the alone. Finally, in that forest, The Mandoline found its home.

Permit/Forbid
I permitted myself to fall in love, Yet, forbade myself fall out. I let her become the sun; Something I neither regret nor doubt. The seed was planted. My heart its soil. A young blossom to be, Lost in turmoil. I had the earth, The air and water to suffice. All I needed from the sun Was the warmth, its sacrifice. But this is too much, I pushed it too far, As day became night, The rain, too, fell hard. I drowned my own sapling, And scared off the sun; But it was too early, My own flame, not yet done. I permitted myself to fall in love, Yet, forbade myself fall out. So I guess my only option: Hope the sun brings a drought.

The Train
I hear the train far off, As I have since but a child. The horn is distant, yet The rumble not yet wild. The shake will not reach me; But the memories always do. It travels with such speed. The Iron Horse says "Choo-Choo!" In turn I grew my voice, And with it my conviction; I stretched my mind with care, So as to avoid self infliction. A path laid in umbra Formed contrast to the light. Through it I found balance, Motivation to end the fight. The train has gone and passed. It forges on with such speed. To grow I must perdure, For my soul has been truly freed.

Finally
Somehow, I am reminded of you here. The smell has overtaken my senses. Yet, with this memory, there is no fear, But the tension in my mind is so dense. The feeling of your hand entwined in mine, The sound of your voice etched onto the wind; I can still see your smile, still see the shine, But with all the time the shine starts to dim. You left me in the dark to grasp alone, And now the memory…
