Oh that makes me feel better. So many of the hermits are so private it just felt so wrong to see him and Smajor addressed collectively like that. I appreciate you letting me know.

So I am now of the age where looking up memes is something I do sometimes when I see them but don't know the origin, and I've seen so many "ruin the tour" memes that I decided I wanted to know more than that it was related to JT's DUI arrest, and I gotta tell you, NO MEME is more brutal than this quote by Forbes:

Dolo Flicks: Strange Darling Review and Initial Thoughts: JT Mollner Delivers an Immersive Horror Thriller Experience

I wish I could say more about STRANGE DARLING, but it's one of those films that's too clever to spoil, so best to say nothing.
— Stephen King (@StephenKing) July 31, 2024
Only a handful of films can captivate and immediately engage an audience. It's a delicate balance of narrative and style. Strange Darling, with its unique nonlinear structure presented in six chapters and an epilogue, emerges as the standout horror thriller of 2024.
In his second directorial film, JT Mollner tells the story of a serial killer in the final encounter of their life. Exposition into the characters' backgrounds is minimal, keeping the plot focused on just one event. Strange Darling stars Willa Fitzgerald as the Lady, Kyle Garner as the Demon, Barbara Hershey, Ed Begley, Madison Beaty, and Steven Michael Quezada.
The film's storytelling is as unique as its structure, with out-of-order chapters that immediately plunge the viewer into a gripping cat-and-mouse game. As each chapter unfolds, the story gradually reveals more about the plot. Strange Darling skillfully manipulates societal norms and assumed gender roles to lead the audience into believing one character is the victim and the other the perpetrator.
The two leads, Fitzgerald and Garner, shoulder the film's weight with their stellar performances. Their scenes are among the film's most memorable, both in terms of the writing and cinematography. Giovanni Ribisi, known for his roles in Sneaky Pete and Ted, served as the film's cinematographer, shooting the entire project on 35mm film.
Over the last few years, Garner has shed the gothic introvert typecasting that enveloped the first half of his career. He now takes on the role of menacing characters who take deliberate actions, choosing scripts that give him nuance and not falling into another action-star or villain stereotype. Fitzgerald is best known for television shows such as Amazon Prime's Reacher and Netflix's The Fall of the House of Usher. Strange Darling is her breakout performance as she steals the show. Once the film's twist or subversion is revealed, it provides more context to the previous chapters, adding a new layer to what the viewer has witnessed.
Mollner's script has an intensity from the start, but knowing when to slow down and pick things back up is where it shines. While the Lady and the Demon are the prominent figures in Strange Darling, some characters featured are simply in the wrong place at the wrong time, adding to the sheer insanity of the film's events. Genevieve (Barbara Hershey) and Frederick (Ed Begley Jr.), a couple enjoying an intriguing and odd Sunday breakfast, live in a home near where the Lady is attempting to escape. Through no fault of their own, they become victims of the main characters' actions. The addition of these characters may have been influenced by Mollner's background as an avid reader of Stephen King's stories, which featured antagonists and those along the unfortunate ride of their story.
"Even though I was way too young, the first novel I read was Carrie, and it took me months and months to get through it," Mollner told Forbes. "In second grade, I got sent to the principal's office for reading it, and when they called my mom, she said, 'Hey, I'm not going to discourage my kid from reading!
"Because I couldn't watch horror movies, I'd still see the covers for them at the video store, and my brain started creating things that were far worse and far more theatrical than you would ever see in the movies. That must have something that had a little bit to do with the imagination I ended up with. Since then, when stories come to me, I have to write them and have to make them."
2024 has been a mixed year for horror. There have been prequels that over-achieved, such as The First Omen, trilogies concluding with MaXXXine, genius marketing and word of mouth with Longlegs, and your standard studio low-tier horror with Imaginary and Night Swim. Strange Darling sets itself apart even from the best of the year with its story and characters keeping you engaged from start to finish. As word of mouth travels, Strange Darling will earn recognition for being one of the truly unique experiences of 2024 that delivers in terms of story, character, and execution.

What I don’t get is why all those collabs and remixes with mid/has been artists? JT and Usher now… hello, it’s not the early 2000’s anymore, I’m 30 and all for the nostalgic vibes usually but with those guys? What the heck is Hybe doing. Those artists need JK and BTS way more than he needs them. They should better focus on him solely. I’m so done with this obsession with toping the charts and awards and popularity contest, I get that he’s an artist and wants to be the best but as for me I don’t fucking care about it, I want good music with good concepts and good performances with JK only and screw the rest. Honestly, I know this is a matter of personal taste, but I feel like they should better come back to the roots of kpop. They have to secure the ‘k’, not get rid of it imo. Turning kpop into mainstream pop is a sure path to failure in the long run, but I’m just a kpop fan so who am I I guess.. as much as I was dreading this enlistment period, I hope the boys will be safe and that it will be a time for self reflection for them, especially JK who seemed a bit uncertain about the path to follow for his solo- I think his solo lacked a clear vision and concept, probably the result of his lack of inspiration in the first place. Sorry I’m rambling. That being said him enlisting with Jimin makes me feel better, I’m relieved they’ll have each other. I truly hope we’ll get to witness amazing music when they will all come back.
Well, JT and Usher aren't super popular anymore but they are still famous and somewhat relevant, and have access to different demographics - in JT's case, 30-40s (white) women who were his fans as teens and young adults, and, in Usher's case, I guess it's a similar age group, but also the black community as whole according to an anon. I don't like calling people has-beens although I pretty much called them that myself. In JT's case, his reputation is on the floor right now so it's like Jungkook is on the wrong side of the Britney vs. JT debate, and it's not exactly a good look (even Forbes questioned this collab and they write more flattering BTS articles than Weverse Magazine). With Usher, I don't know. It could be a better decision than I assumed but Usher is certainly not a trendy artist these days and those are the kind of artists that could help Jungkook a lot in the short term. Even Jack Harlow helped JK, simply because people know his name, he's White, and people are way less prejudiced to check out his music, and he also has access to places JK is kept out of despite JK being way more in demand. So, truly, all these artists help JK in some way, with some drawbacks (3D alternate version is a much better song and overall Armys were definitely disappointed in the collab), but there's also no denying there are a lot more impactful artists to have a collab with. I would argue that, of all the collabs, Latto was the best one they chose and I was not happy about it at first. I'm still not sure if the woman is a racist because I saw a few racist tweets about Asian women, which could be really old and I'll give her the benefit of the doubt, but despite not being that famous, she is a) a woman, which in the music industry makes her more interesting right now, b) an up-and-coming rapper, which makes her seem like a more tasteful, music-oriented choice rather than a commercial one, and c) the fact that people don't really know her means no one is immediately put off seeing her name, which I'm sure cannot be said about the other three artists. So, Jungkook collabing with another rising star, perhaps one that has a current hit, would've arguably been a more interesting choice. I don't know, but I think JK's demographic doesn't mesh with JT and Usher fans? Their images don't mesh either? JK is a young, "rising" star, part of a very popular established group, so he needs to be associated with artists that are respected and have a fresh sound imo. I don't know... Ideally, he would partner with established artists with a fresh and current sound.
Putting the k back in kpop... I think English songs clearly do better internationally, but it's very hard for most groups to have a genuine impact abroad, so, to them, making English music only wouldn't help much. It would probably help BTS with the GP, since they are famous globally, but I don't TXT would overthrow even SKZ globally if they only made English tracks. In JK's case, because he's that big, an all English album helped, and, what's more, Koreans liked it, especially Korean celebs, and I think a lot of kpoppies loved it too. Kpop fans complain a lot about English music but usually like very Western kpop tracks (mostly as long as they are not from BTS)... I prefer kpop too, but the distinction between pop and kpop isn't that clear, and atp this debate is very useless and tired.
I think Jungkook didn't have a clear artistic vision for Golden, but he did have a clear vision of the kind of performance and vocals he wanted, as well as visuals and (maybe) impact. I don't think enlisting would change him and make him want to release a kpop-y album. It could be argued that he doesn't have very set opinions either way - English or Korean music is kind of the same to him in many ways, I think.
And, yeah, I'm glad Jikook are enlisting together, I hope they stay together the entire time...

I'm watching CW's Beauty and the Beast because hey, it's on Netflix, and I swear it's like a Kastle AU that writes itself:
Vincent is the Beast, an ex-special forces soldier who didn't ask enough questions when he signed up for a secret experiment. They killed the rest of the members to cover up what they did, but Vincent eluded them and is in hiding now, for the sake of his own life and everyone who they could use to get to him
He's legally dead. Everyone from his old life thinks he's dead.
...except for his one nerdy friend who supports him and tries to help him (they share an abandoned building together and yes, he has some hacking skills)
...and Catherine, the Beauty, a detective who believes in justice above all else, even if it means breaking some rules
Vincent saved Catherine twice, and now she's in love with him even though he's a violent vigilante who can't anyways control himself
But they can't be together because he's legally dead and in hiding and anyone close to him is also in danger and he wants her to have a real life
...but also because Catherine can't let herself have nice things like men who treat her well and can actually love her back
That doesn't stop her from helping him stay safe and convincing him he's not a monster every chance she gets
There are other things that happen even in the first season that don't fit that well, because it is its own show and not actually a Kastle AU (it came out three years before Frank appeared on Daredevil, let alone Punisher) but man, does that setup fit.
It got me thinking though: one of my favorite things about fanfic is seeing what elements of the characters authors keep in their stories, sort of as an indication of what they think is essential to the characters or the relationship. Vincent struggles with how he turns into a beast when his adrenaline spikes (because of the experiment) and loses control in beast mode, often killing people without intending to be a murderer. And he angsts over killing people, even though they're always about to commit a crime when he gets them. If this were a real Kastle AU, would it stretch things too far to put Frank in his shoes? I've always thought the fact that he was always in control was one of the essential things that made him Frank. Does it put him in a different light if he kills by accident, rather than by intention? Is it too much of a stretch to make him remorseful over his deadliness?

You'd think I'd learn by now that I can't trust a TV show to be a comfort blanket — especially one that revolves around a romance. Of course it can't just lean into the love triangle that's been running the entire season so far, it has to explode it into a quadrilateral and then add bisecting conspiracy lines threatening to blow every other part of their lives up.

Did you listen to the JT remix? It's really good! Hybe really dropped the ball by not picking him originally
Hybe shouldn't have picked anyone, period. But between Harlow and JT, JT seems like a much bigger asshole. I haven't listened to the new remix. I haven't listened to any 3D remix, actually. The only 3D I like (love, actually) is the alternate version. I don't know if I'll ever listen to JT's remix tbh. I'm not curious enough and I'll probably just get angry or annoyed.
Listen, I don't even know what Britney wrote about JT, but if even Forbes, who is constantly writing fluff pieces and overaggrandizing BTS like they're Army or being paid by Hybe, wrote a negative article about Jungkook and this remix (tbf I only read the headline), that should tell you something.
Anyway, there are a few people who I'd be interested in having in a 3D remix, but JT is not one of them, and this is just making Jungkook look bad. No one who cares about women wants to be associated with him right now. Hybe really needs to be so short-sighted and stop taking every artist who wants them or they can bring in.
