Fun Fact
Kazakhstan’s Minister of Communications and Informatics has blocked the Tumblr site because it contained 60 sites of terrorism, extremism, and pornography in 2015.
Denzel Washington was born on December 28, 1954, in Mount Vernon, New York. Washington has earned popular and critical acclaim for his roles in an array of feature films, including ‘Glory,’ ‘Malcolm X,’ 'Training Day’ ‘The Great Debaters’ and 'Fences.’
Denzel first studied journalism at Fordham University but then discovered an interest in acting. He made his feature film debut in the comedy A Carbon Copy and was cast on the hit TV medical drama St. Elsewhere. He went on to appear in several hit movies, including Philadelphia, Man on Fire, The Book of Eli, American Gangster, The Equalizer and Flight, and won Oscars for his roles in Glory and Training Day.
Denzel and Spike Lee’s cinematic chemistry has spanned multiple films. Mo’ Better Blues, Malcolm X, He Got Game, and Inside Man.
Other notable films, The Pelican Brief, Philadelphia, Crimson Tide, Courage Under Fire, The Tragedy of MacBeth, American Gangster Antwone Fisher, John Q, Remember The Titans, Devil in A Blue Dress, Ricochet, and The Hurricane, for which he received a Golden Globe for best actor.
Washington Broadway appearances include Lorraine Hansberry’s A Raisin in the Sun, The Iceman Cometh, Fences, Julius Caesar, and CheckMates.
He continues to build on his legacy and shows no signs of slowing down.
So was the cypher just a 22 shift cypher with + at the end of the alphabet or did you do something special beyond that? Bc while I know what the correct translation should be I can't quite put together why an answer with just the 22-shift would be close if the decoder is just using the regular alphabet but completely off when using a 27 letter alphabet of A through +. I know the paragraph before is supposed to have all the clues but there's definitely something I am missing and I gotta know what.
Sorry to just pop up randomly and ask you this but I saw Amity reblog another question about it and just like zeroed on your blog in bc cryptography and flirting is so fucking cool and your rules do say to send you an ask.
First of all, don't apologise for popping up out of nowhere I love this! I have it in my bio for a reason lol
For anyone who didn't see the cipher in question (which I expect to be almost everyone who sees this) here's the link to @k1nky-r0b0t-g1rl's post (I'll also be quoting the relevant stuff but if you wanna try to kinda still solve it for yourself start there, I'll be explaining it in detail here):
I'll make this a more comprehensive explanation for anyone who wants it so it's probably gonna contain quite some stuff you already know, if you want to skip it just scroll until you see 'NOW FOR THE GOOD STUFF' in big text!
SO
Here we have the original message:
E sxjp pk ejopxhh x oqynkqpeja ejpk ukqn ouopaio pdxp ixgao ukq osepzd ejpk dknju ik+a sdajaran E oxu "Kd Xiepu gjkso sxuu ikna xykqp pdxp," ok pdxp E zxj ixga ukq atlhxej atpnaiahu zkilhezxpa+ pklezo sdeha ukq'na oq++ajhu qjyaxnxyhu dknju xj+ pnuejc +aolxnxpahu pk de+a ep.
And this is the hint I gave:
There's three important parts to this so I'll go through them in order
Firstly, the hint is about Julius Caesar, hinting at the fact that the later text is encoded by a Caesar cipher. This is a cryptographic method where you move all the letters forward a certain amount (called the shift) of letters in the alphabet.
So a caesar cipher with a right shift of 1 shifts all the letters one space forward, eg. A -> B, X -> Y. Generally the right shift is the default so I left it at that. A better hint would have also incorporated the right part but eh I'm not perfect.
Secondly, I talk about 23 people stabbing him, which indicates a shift of 23, giving us the following conversion table:
where the top row is the original letters and the bottom is the shifted letter values. If we left it at this and tried to decode the message we'd get:
H vams sn hmrsakk a rtbqntshmd hmsn xntq rxrsdlr sgas lajdr xnt rvhscg hmsn gnqmx ln+d vgdmdudq H rax "Ng Alhsx jmnvr vaxx lnqd abnts sgas," rn sgas H cam lajd xnt dwokahm dwsqdldkx cnlokhcasd+ snohcr vghkd xnt'qd rt++dmkx tmbdaqabkx gnqmx am+ sqxhmf +droaqasdkx sn gh+d hs.
Which is very much not correct. Now, we can cheat a little and change this to a 22-shift cipher (which is not correct) and get the following:
I wbnt to instbll b sucroutine into your systems thbt mbkes you switdh into horny mo+e whenever I sby "Oh Bmity knows wbyy more bcout thbt," so thbt I dbn mbke you explbin extremely domplidbte+ topids while you're su++enly uncebrbcly horny bn+ trying +espbrbtely to hi+e it.
Then we see something comprehensible, but not quite correct: there's some random B's, C's and D's in there and still some plusses in the middle of words. Regardless, you can make out from this wrong result what the message was supposed to be (an oversight on my part, and something I will take into account if/when I do it again)
And now comes the spicy part!
Thirdly, I say "a little (+) at the end" which (as you correctly identified in your ask) refers to the fact that I didn't use the default 26-letter alphabet, but instead used a slightly modified 27-letter alphabet with a + at the end, so we'd have the following letter order (I'll be referring to this as alphabet+ for brevity)
ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ+
If we try to decode the message as a 23-rightshift caesar cipher with alphabet+, we get the following conversion table and message:
I want to install a subroutine into your systems that makes you switch into horny mode whenever I say "Oh Amity knows wayy more about that," so that I can make you explain extremely complicated topics while you're suddenly unbearably horny and trying desparately to hide it.
Which is finally correct! Yay, we have the original message!
NOW FOR THE GOOD STUFF
But now we finally get to your question: why does the regular 22-shift almost work if it's totally wrong for alphabet+?
For that, we can consider the equivalent left-shift operations of our right-shift decodings:
For any standard alphabet caesar cipher, the 26-shift (left or right) operation is the same as the unencoded version (because A + 26 spaces is once again A), which means that we can also express our right-shift operations as a left-shift operation of shift 26 - R where R is the shift of our right-shift (if this doesn't make sense to anyone I'm happy to try to expand on it btw).
For the alphabet cipher, that means a 23 right-shift is equivalent to a 3 left-shift, and a 22 right-shift is equivalent to a 4 left-shift.
However, for alphabet+, it doesn't take 26 shifts to get back to normal, but 27 (since there's 27 characters in alphabet+). This means that a 23 right-shift alphabet+ operation is equivalent to a 4 left-shift and NOT a 3 left-shift.
Now, since they're not the same set of characters, an alphabet 4 left-shift is not the same as an alphabet+ 4 left-shift. However, it's good to take into account that the solution in alphabet+ is also very similar to our almost-solution in the regular alphabet.
If you'll look at Table 1 and 2 again, you'll see that while A, B and C translate to X, Y and Z for both 23 right-shifts, the + in the middle for alphabet+ messes everything up and leaves us with an icky leftover left-shift of 1 (which is close, but still incomprehensible to humans since it's such a big portion of letters)
However, if we create a conversion table for the 22 right-shift of the alphabet we get the following:
If we compare this to Table 2, we see that A, B, C & D are not the same for both. However, from E on, these two are EXACTLY the same. The part left of the + just has a right-shift of 1 (which is symmetrical to the left-shift of 1 we saw in Table 1).
So, in conclusion: because of the difference in amount of characters, both the 22 and 23 right-shift alphabet decodings are not EXACTLY the same as the 23 right-shift alphabet+ decoding. However, due to the similarity of the lower 4 left-shift, the 22 has more correct characters and is therefore more comprehensible.
I hope that helps a little and I didn't make it more confusing lmao, this is longer (and also took longer) than I thought it would be but it was fun to write, so thanks for asking! If anything is still unclear feel free to reblog with a question or send me an ask (that counts for anyone reading this btw)! Also, since you said you're a fan of flirting + cryptography, how about I unleash the next cipher on you? ;)
i know the point of otomes is dating whoever you want, but do you have any otome love interests in MO that you see as the closest thing to a canon option? obviously it's not enforced since y'know, otome, but the option that you think has the best chance of being 'real' or the romance option that helped shape the story the most

Can I please have an Asta x Reader where the reader is the king's child and they're both worried that he'll disapprove so they keep it a secret, but once he finds out he's already calling up the royal wedding planner, picking out embarrassing grandkid presents, and being all around surprisingly supportive.
Idk m8 I just love unexpectedly supportive parents, and Asta.
Mostly Asta.
Hello my bby! Thanks for sending this one in hehe! Ahhh the nerves wrecking feeling of the meet-the-parents sessions. hehe.
Also, the king's child? KING AUGUSTUS' CHILD?! I'm sorry but I'm going to go with the wizard kind instead LMAO
Asta x F! reader ft. Julius Novachrono
TW: For the story's sake, let's just imagine that Julius has a daughter, y/n. And also he's in his adult form.
Although you both knew that Asta had a lot of contributions to the nation and was thought of by the people as a hero, being an item with the king's daughter was another level altogether.
On one hand, you were really proud of the man you're dating, but you were still nervous to tell your protective dad that you were dating someone.
"Are you sure, y/n?!" Asta asked in his usual loud voice
"I mean, we've been dating for more than a year now! If all else fails, I'm going to ask Uncle Yami to talk some sense into my dad!"
"We're getting Yami Danjou involved too?!" Asta was almost seeing stars at this point, the thought of having to face the wizard king and his captain sent shivers up his spine.
------------------------------------
"Do you think Maho Tei would get angry?" Asta asked on the way to your place.
"Well, I already kinda prepped him, I told him I was going to introduce him to someone special in my life,"
"So what did he say?"
"He was being all dramatic as usual, saying that his baby has grown up, and mom was just chuckling and shaking her head,"
The usually boisterous boy went silent, causing you to look up at him.
"And.. what if he disapproves?" he looked at you, seeking some solace in your eyes.
You gave him a firm squeeze to his hand, "Well, I'd still be with you."
------------------------------------
You both finally reached the doors to the common room, the room where your parents were waiting for you and your "special someone".
You were not that nervous before but now as you reached the moment, your heart couldn't help but palpitate wildly.
With one last assuring look to Asta, you deep a deep breath and turned the door knobs.
"Oh welcome home honey," your mom cooed at the sight of you.
Your dad, Julius, looked up from his book, his eye glanced to you and then immediately darted next to you, onto Asta.
Although it happened in a flash, you felt like it unfolded in slow-mo in front of your eyes; his expression went from shocked to pleasantly surprised and then it looked like a boulder was raised off his shoulders as he smiled at Asta in relief.
The trademark starry eyes was plastered on his face and in that moment, you knew that everything was going to be okay.
"ASTA-KUN!" The wizard king jumped from his seat and the next thing you knew he was right in front of the both of you.
"Er.. Dad, I-"
"MAHO TEI!" Asta saluted all of a sudden, "I just wanted to let you know that I am dating your daughter and I'll take good care of her!!!"
You smiled at your boyfriend, he had so much determination in his eyes while he held onto your hand proudly and tightly.
"Why didn't you tell me you were dating Asta sooner, honey!" Your dad gently chided you.
"Okay now, let's leave the talking to the dinner table, shall we?" your mother ushered all of you to the dining room.
-------------------------------------------
"So so so, how long are you guys together?"
"how did you two meet? How did you guys get together? I didn't know you two were that close!!"
"Darling," your mom placed a gentle hand on Julius' biceps, "one question at a time please, don't scare the poor kid."
You gave your mom a thankful expression, at times like this, you strongly understood that mom's the best.
Asta slowly answered all the questions honestly as the dinner progressed. He excitedly told your parents of the fun and exciting times you had together with the usual shine in his eyes.
"so... you're okay with us dating, dad? You asked carefully, after he was pretty much done with his 101 questions.
"There's really nothing bad to pick from Asta, is there?" he fondly looked at the young bull, "He's been nothing but heroic to the clover kingdom the past year, plus he's Yami's kid, I have no qualms about any of his members."
Asta felt his heart swell in pride, "Yessir! Yami Danjou is the best and our bull family are filled with quirky but good people!!"
"I know son, Yami and his bulls are indeed magnificent," he beamed at the thought of young Yami and how far he has come.
Asta and you exchanged glanced when Julius called him son. You both couldn't help my smile at each other, more than happy with this outcome. It was like all the worries you had were for naught.
"so... When are you two planning on getting married?" He grinned.
Both of your faced flushed a bright red and went into this flustered and stuttering mess, "DAD!" you exclaimed embarrassingly.
"Darling..." your mother shot her husband "the look" and he immediately pursed his lip.
"I'm just kidding" he sheepishly smiled, quickly retracting his joke and changing the subject before he got into trouble with his wife, "now, who's ready for desserts?!"

[Audio Books] SPQR: A History of Ancient Rome audiobook free by Mary Beard
A sweeping, revisionist history of the Roman Empire from one of our foremost classicists. Ancient Rome was an imposing city even by modern standards, a sprawling imperial metropolis of more than a million inhabitants, a 'mixture of luxury and filth, liberty and exploitation, civic pride and murderous civil war' that served as the seat of power for an empire that spanned from Spain to Syria. Yet how did all this emerge from what was once an insignificant village in central Italy? In S.P.Q.R., world-renowned classicist Mary Beard narrates the unprecedented rise of a civilization that even two thousand years later still shapes many of our most fundamental assumptions about power, citizenship, responsibility, political violence, empire, luxury, and beauty. From the foundational myth of Romulus and Remus to 212 cenearly a thousand years laterwhen the emperor Caracalla gave Roman citizenship to every free inhabitant of the empire, S.P.Q.R. (the abbreviation of 'The Senate and People of Rome') examines not just how we think of ancient Rome but challenges the comfortable historical perspectives that have existed for centuries by exploring how the Romans thought of themselves: how they challenged the idea of imperial rule, how they responded to terrorism and revolution, and how they invented a new idea of citizenship and nation. Opening the book in 63 bce with the famous clash between the populist aristocrat Catiline and Cicero, the renowned politician and orator, Beard animates this 'terrorist conspiracy,' which was aimed at the very heart of the Republic, demonstrating how this singular event would presage the struggle between democracy and autocracy that would come to define much of Rome's subsequent history. Illustrating how a classical democracy yielded to a self-confident and self-critical empire, S.P.Q.R. reintroduces us, though in a wholly different way, to famous and familiar charactersHannibal, Julius Caesar, Cleopatra, Augustus, and Nero, among otherswhile expanding the historical aperture to include those overlooked in traditional histories: the women, the slaves and ex-slaves, conspirators, and those on the losing side of Rome's glorious conquests. Like the best detectives, Beard sifts fact from fiction, myth and propaganda from historical record, refusing either simple admiration or blanket condemnation. Far from being frozen in marble, Roman history, she shows, is constantly being revised and rewritten as our knowledge expands. Indeed, our perceptions of ancient Rome have changed dramatically over the last fifty years, and S.P.Q.R., with its nuanced attention to class inequality, democratic struggles, and the lives of entire groups of people omitted from the historical narrative for centuries, promises to shape our view of Roman history for decades to come.

This felt like a College lecture. I really enjoy Roman history but this was dry & bounced around a lot with no real cohesion or story. I really wanted to be pulled in by the author but I kept being disappointed. She doesn't dwell on one subject i.e., Caesar for very long or discuss their conquests for example. It just bounces around with no feeling either way. I felt like I was in the back of my classroom again but falling asleep.

Antonio Gates’ NFL legacy is as a trailblazer for athletes who never played college football
Antonio Gates went from college basketball star to NFL record-setting tight end.
Antonio Gates stepped off the basketball court and started his journey to the Hall of Fame.
Antonio Gates didn’t have a single reception as a college football player. He had 955 as a pro.
The former Kent State basketball star ended his NFL career after sitting out the 2019 season. He hung up his cleats after 16 seasons with the Chargers, the club that took a chance on an inexperienced athletic dynamo back in 2003.

— Antonio Gates (@AntonioGates85) January 14, 2020
Gates’ legacy has a few different shapes. As a star player who failed to make it to even the AFC title game, he embodies the Chargers’ eternally cursed fate. As a tight end, he made more touchdown catches than anyone else at the position in league history. But his truest value may be the example he set for other hardworking hardwood stars looking to reinvent themselves as receivers instead of rebounders.
Gates went from college basketball star to NFL All-Pro in shockingly little time
Antonio Gates was supposed to be a two-sport athlete at Michigan State, but then-coach Nick Saban’s demand he give up basketball and focus on football full time changed his career trajectory. He left East Lansing to start a winding path that detoured through Eastern Michigan University and the College of the Sequoias before landing on the Kent State basketball team. By that point, football was an afterthought.
As a junior, Gates led the Golden Flashes to the Elite Eight as a short but effective power forward. As a senior, he finished fourth in the Mid-American Conference in scoring (20.6 points per game), seventh in rebounding (7.7), and sixth in assists (4.1) while leading Kent State to a division title and an NIT berth. There was a problem, however; he was only 6’4. While that may have led to some offers to play overseas, the NBA wasn’t an option for him.
The NFL was.
Gates bet on himself by setting up workouts with NFL teams in the summer of 2003. His first meeting was with San Diego, who didn’t let him leave without a signed contract. An 0-4 Chargers team threw him into the starting lineup in Week 5 of his rookie season and never looked back. Less than a year after leaving basketball behind, he’d torch unassuming NFL defense for 16.2 yards per catch as Drew Brees’ x-factor.
His next three seasons were one of the best stretches any NFL tight end has ever recorded. Gates caught 241 passes for 2,989 yards and a league-best 32 touchdowns. No other tight end had more than 20 in that span. Three straight first-team All-Pro nods followed, and the undersized power forward became an integral cog in the Chargers’ offense alongside Philip Rivers and LaDainian Tomlinson.
This was the peak of his career, but he was still extremely good in the aftermath. He’d average 900 receiving yards and nine touchdowns in his age 27-34 seasons, churning along as other tight ends wore down. While he flirted with retirement in his late 30s, he kept showing up once it became clear the Chargers — and old friend Rivers — needed him to box out defensive backs in the end zone.
That ended after he sat out the 2019 season, but Gates still finished his career with five All-Pro honors, eight Pro Bowl selections, nearly 12,000 receiving yards, and an almost certain spot in the Hall of Fame. His influence will be felt in the NFL long after he’s retired.
Gates was the bellwether for a long list of 2000s basketball stars who wanted to roast cornerbacks instead of forwards
Gates wasn’t the first player to go from college basketball player to modern NFL star. Tony Gonzalez — who’d battle with Gates for All-Pro nods and tight end receiving records through an equally amazing career — and Julius Peppers were each two-sport college stars who made the transition with aplomb. But the learning curve was much steeper for Gates to come out of nowhere and turn linebackers into turf scorch marks as a pro. Like Cowboys star Cornell Green before him, he had to do so without playing a snap of college football.
Even though he enrolled at three different Division I schools that could have used his services on the gridiron, his focus didn’t leave the hardwood until he was told his NBA career wasn’t going to work. Then he gave the NFL proof a burly, undersized power forward can be the league’s perfect tight end prototype.
In the years since, scouts have been more receptive to a transition like Gates’. Jimmy Graham is the most famous example.
He joined the University of Miami football team as a senior in the midst of four solid but unspectacular years of Hurricane basketball. He showed enough potential to be selected in the third round of the 2010 NFL Draft despite just 17 NCAA receptions and would go on to become a five-time Pro Bowler — explicitly citing Gates as “paving the way” for his place in the NFL.
Graham isn’t alone. Julius Thomas made a similar career decision as Graham, lacing up his cleats at tight end his senior season at Portland State while playing four years with the school’s basketball team. When it became clear his 6’5 frame wasn’t enough to make it in the NBA, he’d go on to make a pair of Pro Bowls and play in a Super Bowl with the Broncos. He cited Gates as the player he tried to emulate the most on the field.
Darren Fells didn’t play a snap of football at UC-Irvine and spent five years playing in different international basketball leagues before giving football a try in 2013. After bouncing around a few different rosters, he’s since settled in as Deshaun Watson’s top tight end target in the red zone with the Texans.
Rico Gathers went from All-Big 12 basketball honors as a rebound-swallowing center to a spot in the Cowboys’ tight end rotation despite playing zero snaps at Baylor. Demetrius Harris and Mo Alie-Cox each made the leap to the NFL despite attending colleges that didn’t even have varsity football programs (Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Virginia Commonwealth, respectively).
More players will follow, because Gates didn’t just shift from power forward to tight end, he kicked a whole lot of ass in the process. The Chargers legend wasn’t worse off for ditching Saban in East Lansing two decades ago — in fact, that lack of college football mileage may have just cleared the path for an epic 16-year career.
Now he’ll transition into the next part of his life. Fortunately for Gates, he’ll get the chance to relive his amazing journey every time a punishing power forward turns into a steady red zone target in the NFL.
