@thegoblingenraljurgen location: Somewhere in Ymir's Spine notes: reclaiming a Keep
Such a woeful state of disrepair. The Keep held a strategic position overlooking a valley below, one that coursed with the war drums of darkspawn as they marched through the chasm miles below. Toward Lysara to reinforce those who headed to take Haven following the predictable fall of Aventia.
Goblins, and most green-blooded beasts, were weak. Their will was easily dominated by those they viewed as stronger; it was one thing to pull them into the rank and fold with arcana or something as common as a wish, but spells were easily broken and goblins died easily enough. To the surprise of most, once a goblin's loyalty was earned it was not easily swayed.
"The offense of an orc calling staking a claim to this place and calling himself King," Kalamar remarked, languid posture a thin line against the skyline as he leaned with casual ease against the weathered stalk of a decaying tree. Blight was sinking into the bedrock of these mountains, the ground here was strong, but Kalamar was interested to see what would become of it when the dust had settled. Somewhere in this range was a troublesome Old Woman, her time would soon come to an end too. "kill him and the others might just fall in line." A gift, some might say - though Jurgen would have to spill the blood himself.

@thegoblingenraljurgen location: Silverlands notes: here's a drunken-monk cambion trope!
This war bullshit had really thrown a wrench in festival season; Emre should've been ankle-deep in bones, nipple-deep in wine, and face-deep in Kajal's ass. Instead, he had no money, no wine, and no crowd cheering his name. He still had that third thing but Emre couldn't bet his boyfriend's ass in a game of knucklebones (again) and live to tell the tale.
With the indelible swagger of a showman, Emre rolled up on the appointed spot and popped a few beer nuts in his mouth. He'd barely had three glasses before hitting the saddle this morning so the gladiator's usual charm hadn't quite kicked in yet. "You're the guy?" Emre wasn't in the Guild and wasn't allowed anywhere near it after he'd been kicked out, but what he could do was wait to hear about someone who needed help with a contract. Emre was only good at one thing - killing things, fucking, and drinking. That was three things, but who was counting? "I heard there was something about a chicken."

Yugo's Audience with Armand: Moving Past Previous Mistakes
If you think about it, after his sacrifice and his reconciliation with Amalia, his audience with Yugo is the scene that best highlights Armand's character development throughout the season, dare I say, the show. With it, we finally come full circle.
We were first introduced to Armand as he refused to let Joris anywhere near his father, even at the behest of the King of Bonta.
Up until that point, all we knew about him was from Amalia and Eva's retellings, where he was painted as often arguing with his sister, being an extremely difficult person to deal with, and having bad breath. And then we finally meet him and...
Everything they said about him turned out to be nothing but the truth.
But we don't really see the full extent of it until Amalia and Evangelyne pleaded their case regarding Nox to him, when he stubbornly refused to believe his sister, instead assuming her imagination had just gone wild. He didn't even rethink his assessment even when Eva backed Amalia up, which would have still been harsh of him to do—to believe his sister's bodyguard over her just because he has a crush on her—, but it still would have made sense, as Eva is very level-headed and she never would have even entertained the thought of allowing Amalia to joke over something so serious.
That already established Armand as an arrogant and self-righteous prince who believes he is in the right just because of his position as heir apparent and older brother.
We must also keep in mind he actually had ample reason to believe Amalia about Nox's plans. While it's hard to tell the extent of his actions and the repercussions they had on the World of Twelve and his victims before the beginning of the show, the fact remains that Nox had been at large for 200 years. In that time, he probably ravaged countless villages and killed powerful creatures in order to drain their Wakfu. Surely, word must have at least got out about some mad Xelor going around and killing people!
In other words, it wasn't necessarily like Armand didn't have proof that Amalia was telling the truth. At the very least, he must have heard some rumours. And yet, that wasn't enough for him to believe his sister and act accordingly.
Not to mention, Amalia had run away yet came back to warn her people of the upcoming threat. Yet Armand still thought she was making stuff up. Who in their right mind would leave their home only to come back to put everyone on edge over a lie?
One thing is acting spoiled from time to time, and another very different thing is acting sociopathic!
Now, let's compare this to his audience with Yugo when he sought his permission to investigate Sadida ground.

During the time between season 2 and the OVAs, Armand seemed to have developed a deep-seated mistrust of the Eliatropes, most likely caused by Qilby's deceit, and it was only exacerbated when the Eliatrope Goddess introduced herself and made her intentions of controlling the World of Twelve in order to make it safe for her children clear.
It's also worth pointing out that not even Yugo was safe from his scorn, despite being a staunch ally to the Sheran Sharms, and saving his kingdom and the world in several occasions. This I attribute both to the fact that Amalia's feelings for him got in the way of marrying her off (thankfully, he seemed to move on from that mindset in season 4, though he still didn't necessarily approve of Yugo), and the fact that King Oakheart was always so welcoming and trusting of him. Knowing Armand, it really wouldn't be far-fetched to believe he was jealous of Yugo's own relationship with his father.
And yet, when the time came for Yugo to request his help and ask him to place his trust on him, Armand agreed.
This is especially telling of his character development because, unlike in Amalia's case, Armand did have ample reason to distrust the Eliatropes.
It's true, except for Qilby and arguably their goddess, the Eliatropes are a peaceful race, but the Twelvians' experiences with the former two at least justify their unease around them.
Both of them display an alarming lack of empathy towards anyone but themselves or their people. After all, Qilby is responsible for the genocide of the Eliatropes, and all because he was bored and searched stimulation elsewhere because of his divine gift. But at the same time, while he couldn't care less for the World of Twelve and planned to have Rushu and his subjects destroy it right before draining it dry of all Wakfu just to fuel the Zenit, he was equally adamant to have his family and the Eliatrope children with him as he travelled the Krosmoz.
The Eliatrope Goddess, on the other hand, might not have been as outwardly callous as her son, nor capable of even going through with her threats and putting the world leaders in their place, but she is equally uncaring towards anyone who isn't one of her children.
In fact, that was the very reason why she made an enemy out of the Twelvian leaders and they came to resent her presence. Because she chose to override their authority and keep them all under her watch (which, until she revealed herself, had the Twelvians terrorised). But the last nail on the coffin was when she revealed that all that, the Eliaculus, sending the Eliatrope guard to help whenever there was trouble, everything, was solely to ensure her children's safety.
Like mother, like son. Am I right?
Even without saying anything, she made it clear that she cared not for the Twelvians and that the Eliatropes were her priority. And that's without getting into her manic insistence they left the World of Twelve to rot the moment the Nécromes arrived.
Now, there's no denying that most leaders with any significant focus have been revealed to be jerks one way or another (looking at you, Queen Astra, Prince of Brakmar, and the entire Osamodas royal family), but they do have a right to be worried when Eliatrope didn't even bother to hide how, in her eyes, they're second class citizens compared to her own followers.
These first impressions really didn't give much reason for Armand to believe Yugo and to listen to his pleas. However, the most damning evidence of all had to be the fact that the Nécromes appeared with the arrival of the Eliatropes. Between the suspicious timing and the fact that the portal-making race had dealt with traitors before, it sounded very unlikely that both things wouldn't be connected.
And Armand knew this. He was perfectly aware of how suspicious everything was, and he didn't hesitate to let Yugo know. However, he also admitted, several times, in fact, that Yugo had been an ally to the Sadida Kingdom since the beginning. That if both his father and his sister never hesitated to put as much faith and trust in him as they did, then it would only be wise he chose to trust Yugo as well.
A clear contrast to how he refused to listen to Amalia, his own sister, back in season 1, and all because he believed to be always in the right.
Season 4 was Armand's chance to redeem himself in the eyes of the audience, to go from an arrogant, jealous prince to a mature and wise king and brother. And while there are things I don't think I'll ever be able to forgive him for, I do appreciate the character development he went through. As I said at the beginning of the analysis, this scene proves he's come full circle.

A still frame from the animatic I'm working on. The japanese text is just a lyric from the song~ 😺
#krosmoz#wakfu#dofus#joris jurgen#''how much layers of symbolism can i cram into an image that appears for 3 seconds'' challenge accomplished successfully#myart#1. the tarot used are self-explanatory. the tower tarot's design is lifted directly from aux tresors de kerubim (im insane)#the reversed empress has hearts and spades (kerubum and atcham) as well as planet symbols. (mercury fits joris as a character;#saturn is the capricorn planet and Joris's canonical zodiac sign is capricorn. also saturn fits him too.)#the reversed star tarot also has the capricorn constellation on it. because i am insane.#the red roadmap/line on the background leads from stars to the moon.#and stars are a common thing to see in aux tresors.#the moon has been used as symbolism for immortality and loneliness both in my works; krosmoz; and real life.#so stars -> moon (and the tarot in between) are kinda a summary of his life. but with the way that it both starts and ends in space there i#a feeling that his life is marked by loneliness/immortality from the start#so yeah this is me being insane about aux tresors again. my most favorite show for 7yo children and Wakfu's better more well written cousin#anyway the animatic is 49-51% done.#ok i will also elaborate onthe tarot: the reversed star is his loss of faith in humanity. the tower is every bad thing that has happened#to him and made him both grow survive and Get More Jaded and Doom-pilled.#and the reversed empress is about his insecurities and living with his dad and uncle in a weird and unhealthy codeoendency for 600 years#also his mania of contr (but also need to be controlled and comforted by his dad and uncle. because he never really grew up.)#joris in waven era is VERY reversed empress with his warcrimes as the ruler of bonta. but even before then he's very reversed empress.#*control. man lotsa typos...

SIN EATER IS A JORIS KERUBIM SONG
SIN EATER IS A JORIS KERUBIM SONG
SIN EATER IS A JORIS KERUBIM SONG
SIN EATER IS A JORIS KERUBIM SONG
youtube

To hell with it, I'm too lazy to retype my tags so here they are lol.
#everything until 1:40 is kerubim singing.#everything after 1:40 and until 3:20 is joris singing.#everything after 3:20 is#joris (''so your natural state is guilt; you think you're living for release'')#and keke ('say you're sorry; say you love it; say you're evil underneath')#talking at the same time except for the two lyrics listed that belong only to them.#I CAN SEE IT SO CLEARLY. I CAN SEE IT SOOO CLEARLY.#Youtube#wakfu#dofus#joris jurgen#kerubim crepin#i don't give a shit if this is a quality post or not. share and partake in my insanity#yes me dividing these lyrics so kerubim gets ''oh god you love me like a fawn'' 'and 'the god who loved me like a fawn''#and and joris gets ''oh. love me like a fawn.'' was intentional. someday when i finish my current animatic im drawing this...#anyway kerubim is ''the blueprint'' and joris is ''the facade''. this song being them just makes so much sense to me. so much sense

@thegoblingenraljurgen location: somewhere in borderreach notes: yasss goblin general
War had come at long last and with it, the pattern burned away thread by thread, the charred air was a hallmark of the days to come and Kalamar languished in the agony that the darkspawn caused. They were beautiful in their way and Kalamar longed for the day when these legions heeled to his command. There was only one path to power in the Abyss, and it was to climb the ladder of consumption. Kill or be killed, devour or devoured. The Dark One did not care for wants or desires, he only cared for the destruction that came at the whims of those who served oblivion.
This human, mortal man, was loyal in his devotion for the same reasons that any devil was: because it suited his needs. Morally reprehensible to some but few knew the world for what it was, could the sword be faulted for acting as it had been forged? This world was born in the dark and it would die much the same, but screaming.
"You look smaller without a corpse or two to stand on." Kalamar always preferred the good general with something ground under his boot - sometimes the devil deceived, but he'd made good on this one. Shame all those beasts were dead, but that just meant the general needed more fuel for the fodder.

I've seen people say things about Amalia not being queen material because she was always far from her kingdom, and I can't help but think they're taking everything at face value. Like they assume that just because the plot takes place while Amalia is usually away on an adventure, that's all there is to it and her circumstances, when in reality nothing is further from the truth.
First of all, back in season 1 the show didn't exactly shy away from confirming Amalia essentially spent her early life confined in the Sadida Kingdom and most likely never stepped foot outside of it until she decided to run away. Hence why she failed to understand the chamberlain wouldn't be able to pay for her expenses when she was in Bonta.
And why did she run away in the first place? That's right. Because her family insisted she remained cooped up in the palace ever since the queen's death. And considering Queen Sheran Sharm died when Amalia was little, that all means she had spent 13 years "trapped" in her kingdom as early as season 1.

Now, I don't think we have an exact date for the Brotherhood's adventures, how long they lasted. But I'm gonna go with my gut and say each journey they took place in the span of several months to a year, tops.
That would mean the first time Amalia left home she wasn't away for that long, anyway.
Not to mention, after dealing with Nox and before Eva herself ran away to get Pinpin back in season 2, it was established the Brotherhood of the Tofu spent several weeks, maybe a month or two, in the Sadida Kingdom. With Yugo and Adamaï helping Amalia with her duties because she was swamped with them, to the point she somewhat reverted back to her brattier days (which is not excusable, but it does show that, at 13-14 at the least, Amalia was already in charge of many administrative duties and responsibilities and under a lot of stress).
In fact, the only reason she didn't stay in her kingdom for the entirety of the season, besides her wanderlust, is the fact that trouble kept popping up. Originally, they only left to get Eva back after she ran away in search of Pinpin, and once they returned from that, the only reason they left the kingdom again was because of Qilby's appearance and his lies deceiving them into helping retrieve his Dofus by painting it as a humanitarian mission for the sake of the Eliatropes.
And before you point out Amalia was supposed to stay in her kingdom that time around but chose to run away again, let's not forget how, technically speaking, she didn't sneak away at all, shall we?
In season 2, the roles had been reversed. Amalia thought she was sneaking away again, but not only was Eva in the know and totally in favour of it (as opposed to her reluctance from season 1), but so was King Sheran Sharm. Remember? He went as far as to have Renate and Canar prepare plenty of provisions for her. Meaning, that time around, Amalia had her father's approval, which implies she didn't actually do anything wrong.

And again, their adventures kept them away from several months up to a year, but not much longer. In fact, the only time it was confirmed they spent a year away was during the post-season 2 manga, and that was an accident because they didn't account for time flowing differently in Emrub.
Now, let's add the time of the OVAs. The special episodes are stated to take place 6 years after season 2, with Flopin and Élely being little kids but not babies or toddlers anymore; Yugo stuck in his childish body despite being, what, 19(?); and Amalia being old enough to marry—given she is 22 in seasons 3 and 4, that would make her roughly 20-21 years old.
Six years had gone by between the second season and the OVAs, and if we add the year away from the manga, that means that Amalia dutifully spent 5 years in her kingdom, carrying out her royal duties and most likely only leaving for a few days at a time at most in order to visit her friends for important occasions like their birthdays. Though this is speculation on my part based on the events of the manga. Days she got to spend away because she probably had her father's permission to, as he wholeheartedly approved of her friendship with the Brotherhood of the Tofu. Meaning, once again, that Amalia wasn't doing anything wrong.
Then the OVAs came, and she had to leave for Frigost, and this time indefinitely since she was to marry Count Harebourg, therefore becoming his Countess and needing to remain by his side in his realm. And, again, because that was a marriage of convenience for the sake of her kingdom, she wasn't just allowed to leave but expected to. But even when it was revealed Count Harebourg planned to either exploit Yugo and the Eliatrope Dofus or the Sadida forests to benefit Frigost and the wedding didn't come to pass, it wasn't like Amalia stayed around to sightsee either.

As soon as they freed Joris, Atcham, and Kerubim and got some exposition on Tristepin from Rubi, realising she had the means to save her kingdom by having Pinpin help, the group split up in two and they turned back around towards the Sadida Kingdom. And all that in just a few days, a week or two at most.
Then comes season 3, taking place a year, year and a half, after the OVAs, with Amalia now 22 and confining herself to the palace more than ever because she's watching as her father withers away each passing day and she's trying to avoid Armand and Aurora since all they seem to care about is getting her hitched and out of their hair.
To be honest, I'm not sure how long they're supposed to have spent in Oropo's dimension and Inglorium, since it feels like only a few days, but then Armand reveals in season 4 that he had only been king for a few weeks and the timeline gets kinda wacky. Because... Amalia just returned the day prior? And she spent the whole time by their father's grave?? What, did he leave her be to the point of risking malnourishment and dehydration for several days??? It just doesn't make sense.
Anyway, confusing timeline aside, what does this tell us? Simple, it tells us that Amalia was only away from home for about 2-3 years, which isn't all that different from when our parents send us to study abroad in real life. Which, at the same time, means that out of 22 years of her life, she remained 19 in her kingdom, performing her duties. And that's even without taking into account the fact that 90% of season 4 took place in the Sadida Kingdom, or the four months between Yugo and Amalia's wedding and the events of The Great Wave, where Amalia (and Yugo) stayed in her kingdom, ruling it.

Unlike Armand, Amalia might have been more interested in adventure than power and politics, and she might not have had the same kind of training as he did as heir apparent, but she is in now way, shape, or form incompetent or unprepared when it comes to ruling her people. Now try to tell me she was always away or that she is irresponsible. I dare you.
