Luke Skywalker!!! Luke is so much to me. In the same way that these are the movies ever, (literally they changed the course of history indelibly), Luke Skywalker is the most main character to ever main character. He's the embodiment of hope for so many generations and is a superb example of a chivalric hero, acting out of hope and love, but he's also reckless as hell and insanely durable and makes morbid comments mostly to himself and goes through a character arc so intensely that it nearly makes him unrecognizable from how we knew him and changed the galaxy forever.

Changed the galaxy forever for good. Luke Skywalker bore witness to the truest dark, he saw the darkest parts of the universe and waded knee-deep in them, and then stepped out. He said, "I choose my friends and what I believe in. I'd rather die before I let myself become you."

When told his fate by two opposing advisors, he chose neither, and wrote his own fate according to what he felt was most true. In doing so, he saved the galaxy, and arguably more important to Luke, his father's soul. SUCH A GUY!!!!

Luke is so peculiar to me. <- referring here to my star wars hyperfixation. Because I was born at a time where I have never not had Star Wars in my life. I can't recall a time not knowing Star Wars in some way shape or form. It's a large portion of my childhood, which is something that can be said by so many people-- I feel that that's just a statement that displays how impactful Star Wars, and Luke Skywalker the Guy of All Time, was to children, and even adults, as a hero, and how he/SW endures.

It's peculiar to me because there are two Lukes in my mind. One is the fandom one I brush shoulders with every once in a while, and one is the one from my childhood. That Luke Skywalker lives with me, representative of every childhood hope and ideal. Luke Skywalker, truly, feels like an old friend.

I’ve shipped many ships but only 2 were ones that narratively made any sense to actually be canon, and one of them was confirmed canon via mutually assured destruction a la gothic romance and the other literally has a prequel being made because the show went off the rails and the prequel is somehow both rewriting and retconning it’s own canon while only being confirmed in Spanish. all I’m saying is most ships aren’t something I need confirmed by canon but these two. these two are so fucking something I swear.

stop bc I adore the moment in dinluke fics where din is like "i need to make a stop on tatooine" and luke is like "cool" and has a bunch of sad feelings about it bc he grew up there and it used to be home. and then luke goes "why are we going to jabba the hutt's place??" And din is like "oh my friend runs it now" and maybe luke will mention that leia killed that slimy fuck and din will go "oh em gee ur sister is THEE huttslayer???" and luke will be all smug like "yup" then din leads luke into the palace, very unaware of the shitshow he's about to unleash. before this man can even blink, luke and boba are hissing at each other with their weapons out and luke is like "i thought this fucker was dead??" And boba is like "u thought wrong bitch" and luke will feel betrayed for a bit and get on din's ass like "why the fuck didn't u tell me u were apparently besties with boba fucking fett??" and poor din is just like "i didn't even know u were famous why would i know y'all had beef??" then the plot moves forward.

DinLuke Thots and Thirsts

- Luke for sure fell first. Din for sure fell harder.

- Din has let the intrusive voices win and has nom-ed Luke’s cheek before (normally when he’s nearing 72 hours of no sleep). He does it after picking a little fight when telling Luke he has a marshmallow baby face (again; he’s really tired)

- There is a SIZE DIFFERENCE and you can NEVER take this away from me. Luke is tiny. Din is big. I will make Luke smaller than he is. I may make Din bigger than he is. I may over exaggerate it. I don’t care. I am feral for it. I love it. Itty bitty precious Luke who can destroy all of ya’ll if he wasn’t so sweet and big Din who can hold Luke in the crook of one arm. 

- Luke is a Bottom Sub and Din is a Top Dom. Also will never be taken from me. Luke deserves to be called a good boy and Din deserves to take care of someone without worry about them leaving him.

- Luke is called babygirl and malewife. Maybe not to his face. Maybe not by Din. But by god, someone in the galaxy sees what he is, what he is destined to be, and is brave enough to say it.

- Add Luke to any Mandalorian situation and he instantly makes things 100% more complicated or 100% easier but always 1000% more fun (looking at you season 3). No one is sure how  he does it...but no one is really complaining.

-Din is romantic. Like once he falls, he is in it for the long haul and every thought and action is for being a husband/father and he is CLINGY. “Luke, love, where is my goodbye kiss?”//”Luke, we’ve been apart for three hours--I need a hug.”//”Where are my babies??? WHERE ARE MY BABIES??!!”

- Luke has more (romantic and sexual) experience than Din but not by a lot. Both of them, at times and at the start, just sort of look at each other and go “now what??” They get the hang off it quick enough and just find their own version of a loving relationship...but man they were a bit lost.

- Din would so ask “am I the asshole because i didn’t get my husband a stuffed toy this one time I went off world?? he wasn’t mad but what if he was hurt? what if he thought I didn’t love him? oh god, I need to go get him ten gifts now.”

- Din probably cried when Luke gave him the first gift...he probably still gets all choked up because Luke is so sweet and perfect and everything he does makes him happy.

- Din does have a Luke-sense exactly like Ken does in Barbie Dream House. It may actually be he is Force-sensitive but all of his powers goes directly into sensing when Luke needs something...or is about to sneak off to do something dangerous (”Being Luke’s husband IS MY CALLING”)

- Din does have this towards Grogu on some level...but Grogu is a big boy who wants to do things for himself and Din is proud of his little Mandalorian who wants to do this. (No, Luke, you are not big enough and you are a danger to yourself. Din will keep his obsessive Luke-sense over you)

Thanks for the ask! I haven't written DinLuke since last Christmas, and I've never dabbled with GFFA fic, but a bit of Prince of Naboo Luke/Manda'lor Din honeymoon style just sounded right. There's not a lot of water time involved, but Din does get his armor off! I hope you like sappy shit lol

Din watches wide-eyed as Luke first steps out of his shoes then begins undoing the clasp of his gown. “Luke? What… what are you doing?” The lake is beautiful, lit only by the moons in their various states of waxing and waning in Naboo’s sky. Luke is beautiful like this too – though he always is – with the moonlight draped about him like a veil. He is every bit the bride today, and Din is quick to file this memory away alongside their ceremony earlier today. He admires the slope of his riduur’s shoulders, the strength in his back and his legs as he takes a few steps into the water… his ass. Curvy. Bare. Biteable. Din swallows hard and hopes the vocoder in his helmet didn’t pick up the sound. “Aren’t you coming?” Luke turns to look back over his shoulder, laughter tucked into every part of his face and dancing in his beautiful blue eyes. “There’s no one around to see us, you know. The servants are in bed, and my family has gone back to Theed.” Din stands stiff as a board, unable to tear his eyes off the young prince. “I… my beskar’gam– my armor…” “Oh… do you not want to take it off? They said it’s allowed–” “It is. And I… I do. I– it’s just–” Luke nods and turns fully to return to shore. He doesn’t try to cover anything, and Din’s thoughts come to a screeching halt. He knows he’s staring, but he just can’t bring himself to stop. “May I help you?” Luke asks, speaking softly now that he’s close enough to touch. Din hesitates only a moment more before nodding dumbly. Luke’s hands are gentle when they touch him, first lifting his helmet and holding it out of the way with one hand so he can stroke Din’s cheek. “Hello again,” he teases. “Ner riduur. Right?” “‘Lek. Yes. Your pronunciation has improved too.” “Whatever it takes to impress you, sweetheart.” Din doesn’t say that he’s impressed with everything about Luke. He knows it’s all over his face anyway; wearing a helmet every day for most of one’s life isn’t conducive to learning to control one’s expressions. He takes a deep breath of fresh air and helps Luke carefully remove each piece of beskar until he’s standing there in just his flight suit. “There,” Luke says, stepping back. “I think you’ve got it from here, wouldn’t you say?” All Din can do is simply nod again. “Perfect. Meet me in the water when you’re ready. I want to kiss you under all the stars.”

I have 2 questions - bear with me…

As you know, I love your work, but have only just recently started actively engaging with it.

I actually first came across you and your Jester x knight OC’s at least a year or two ago, when a fellow DinLuke shipper tagged it with #dinluke, so it showed up on my feed. If you aren’t into Star Wars and are unfamiliar with it - that’s the romantic pairing between Din Djarin (the Mandalorian) and Luke Skywalker.

For a while, I actually thought that it was a medieval DinLuke au because there are quite a few fanarts exploring that ship in different universes (including ours) and different timelines, etc.

One of the things that lent credence to this idea was the fact that the king looks so much like the Jedi, Quinlan Vos.

The characters do also closely match the personalities that a lot of the fandom have collectively given Din and Luke on tumblr - like Luke actually being a feral mischievous gremlin underneath his serene Jedi facade, and Din actually being the more composed (and often lovingly exasperated) of the two.

It was a surprise when I looked more into it and realised that they are original characters, completely unrelated to DinLuke and Star Wars as a whole.

So I guess I’m just curious what was the inspiration behind the Jingly Menace and his steadfast, taciturn knight? Was it a song or a meme or just watching a medieval show and during a scene with a jester, you had a sudden burst of creative juices like “Eureka! Pretty jester x hot knight!”

Sorry if you’ve already answered this and I’ve just missed it while scrolling through your page.

My other question (this I know has been queried to JM himself but he nervously evaded the question) when JM is shown crying in one of the first pictures you posted of him, what was the actual reason that you had in mind behind it? Was it just simply because his attempts to get the hot mysterious knights attention had thus far been unsuccessful (from his perspective anyway) and he succumbed to a private moment of vulnerability?

Every time I look at it, I’m dying to know!

Anyway, love you! Hope the JM comic is still on the horizon at some point - coz I would buy and read the crap out of it!

I honestly had no idea what DinLuke is though I've seen the tags. My knowledge of Star Wars comes from whatever I have absorbed against my will being online and when my best friend made me watch the prequels a few years ago 😂

So Jester solely came to be because I've loved jesters for many years at this point. I just find them fun but there's never enough content for them out there so I just wanted to make my own oc. I also just love trickster characters- anything fae like or I always adored Loki in Norse mythology so he's very based into those kind of mischievous vibes and humor.

Augustine was purely accidental. I saw some Tumblr post about a knight or maybe it was about a jester and a knight (I no longer remember) so I thought it would be funny to doodle Jester with a random knight being a menace asking him about his big sword. Augustine was never supposed to be a character. But then I just kept coming up with other ideas for Jester and this random knight whose face he never saw and whelp here we are.

Soooo the crying. It was definitely a private moment no one else was supposed to witness. Part of something I find interesting with playing with Jester's character is the idea that sometimes the seemingly happiest and funniest people are also the saddest but they just cover it up with a smile. His backstory before coming to the castle is still something that affects him but also he feels lonely at court. He constantly craves the validation of attention he didnt really get as a kid and is constantly surrounded by people but also he feels very lonely in court. He is in a strange place of being neither noble but also not quite a commoner/servant. Nobility will look down on him and not take him serious because he's just a silly guy but the servants are wary to get too close because of his close relationship with the king and the fact that he technically has a higher status as Court Jester. He is one of Monty's closest confidantes but his own secrets keep him from being fully honest with his king. It's a strange place of feeling alone in the middle of a crowded court where everyone sees his silly jester persona and make up but no one sees beneath it.

I still hope to make a comic! Just trying to find the time to get all my ideas in order. Thanks for liking my silly guys!

back with my dinluke brainrot thoughts about them in the early stages of their relationship where everything is a little softer, a touch more hesitant, and ive been particularly thinking about din taking off his helmet. thinking about them both being so cautious about it. about luke taking care to have a blindfold in place over his eyes way in advance, just in case. thinking about that first time, that first moment, where din removes his helmet and luke reaches out and that incredible intimacy and vulnerability from the both of them, so desperately cradling this new thing between them. thinking about how eventually it progresses from blindfolds to darkness and from darkness to din just trusting so deeply that luke will keep his eyes closed until din is ready, satisfied with his commitment to the creed, with his commitment to luke and lukes to him. thinking how to luke, honouring something like this for the man he loves is as easy as breathing. how through the force he can feel everything he needs in those moments. how din so effortlessly respects and understands lukes devotion to his own teachings in the same way. thinking about the gently opening of eyes, of blue connecting with brown and not a great moment of exclamation- not a shock or any wild unknowns- but the easy smile and touch of gazing into the face of someone who knows your soul better than you know it yourself.

aroace dinluke real and true but also tell me why what are your thoughts on this

so like i really love dinluke but not just for the romance but for the dynamic. it’s about two survivors of dying religions, both cultural enemies, coming together and creating a mutual bond over teaching and parenting a child of both worlds. i think that dynamic is just so interesting and i wish we could’ve had more exploration into it.

that dynamic, along with the fact that din (and luke ig) being aroace in a way where they still yearn for love, just don’t know how to find it, makes me feel like them being in a mutual queerplatonic relationship is the best way to explain it. they’re not exactly romantic lovers per say but they definitely share a strong bond over the fact they’re the last of their people, they’re the last of their cultures and religions, and that they both are caring for a child together. they’re co-parenting a baby who they both care about deeply and i just think that entire dynamic is so lovely. those three together just make me grubehehdhehhfhfoughhhhh- and even better? din accepting luke as part of his clan bc their bond is super strong and he sees luke as a father to grogu as much as he sees himself as a father as well. and also luke becoming protective and caring over both din and grogu and getting defensive when they are threatened n stuff like oUGHHHFHHF banging my fist on the wall rn like 😫 anyway yeah i’m normal about them

As it turns out, no one ever taught Luke how to tie a little green baby to his back one-handed, but Luke thinks he's pretty gods-damned good at problem-solving under pressure, thank you, and the baby is at least semi-cooperative. When he's sure the kid is strapped in as tight as he can get, Luke pauses, and reaches back. His fingers graze the wide point of the baby's fuzzy ear. "Well, kid," says Luke, and his voice is a little rough, but not bad, all things considered. "Carrying you on my back while getting the absolute banthashit kicked out of me, at least this feels familiar." The baby coos in his ear, and then kicks him hard in the kidney. Yoda used to do the exact same thing. Somehow, it's a lot more endearing now. Was browsing through early BOBF/Mando S3 criticisms on Tumblr and WOW, 93% of S2’s viewership dropped when S3 finished airing for an extremely understandable reason. As someone who got into Dinluke after all the dust settled I can only imagine what it was like becoming invested in Din’s story and being floored by the S2 finale only for it to get totally swerve-balled after a long-anticipated wait. How did you avoid the disappointment and burnout?

Spite is an incredibly powerful motivator, let me tell you.

I'm halfway joking about that, btw. I could say I'm used to disappointment and I also worked really hard not to take things too personally after being disappointed time and again year after year by fandoms I was in. Imo the healthiest attitude is that no show/movie/book/videogames/etc will ever play out the way you want/think it should so take what you can get and trash the rest. By the time I started watching The Mandalorian, I'd been burnt badly by Star Trek AOS, the Sequel Trilogy, the MCU, and the Disney machine, and I had to figure out how to accept that I like what I like, I can't change what I can't change, and I can/will run the fuck off with what I can change, which is making wildly fun and fulfilling transformative shit like fanfics and fanart.

I was actually excited about TBOBF and was utterly betrayed by the executive decision to throw him and Fennec to the side in order to absolutely trash the Season 2 finale of the Mando Show by having Din and Grogu reunite just like that. I guess I got lucky in that I had a long-running fic series that I was heavily invested in and I was not about to let Disney stop me from finishing it. Instead of letting my frustrations kill my interest in the show and fandom, I turned it into motivation to keep telling the story I wanted to tell based on the fallout of Season 2. It also helped that Andor happened.

I quit Season 3 of the Mando Show after the 1st episode and it was the best decision I ever made. I had a really rough time with it and was encouraged to step away if it was giving me too much stress. I'm glad for that. Less time and energy picking about Filoni&Favreau and Disney Lucasfilm's decisions and disappointments, more time and energy spent writing and drawing the dinluke I want to see. The nice thing about Star Wars is that it is an old and vast sandbox. Plenty of room here to build whatever sandcastles and dig however many holes you want while canon goes floundering by.

I think also that it really helped to find spaces to share with people who vibe on the same wavelength, so I'm not alone to my thoughts and spiraling myself out of a fandom I enjoyed (like what happened with TLJ but I shan't go there bc this response is long enough). Those posts about having friends you can shit-talk things with? Valid af. You need outlets to vent your grievances without setting bridges on fire, and it'll help your enjoyment of things in the long run.

I didn't avoid the disappointment but I figured out how to make something of it, so I'm still writing dinluke, I'm still drawing dinluke, I'm still getting giddy over dinluke. I actively choose to do what I want with them, and nothing Disney Lucasfilm puts out is ever going to stop me.

Anyways, I thought I’d add some stuff from my “editing notes” to here that isn’t spoilers but is just funny and relatable

I saw your tags on your Luke Skywalker post and you’re 100% right that he made the right choice in TBOBF!! I was totally astounded by how many people were angry at him in this show and believe it ‘ruined his character’. And for what? Letting Grogu choose his own fate? He was probably the only person in the entire Mando series to give him the ability to have a say in his own life. Ugh, I swear these people just don’t even like Luke’s character. Sorry for dumping this vent on you, I just saw your post and I’m glad someone else agrees with me <3

Now, ok, I can agree the execution of it was not the best. They cut corners because they used too much money in his face rather than giving us a new actor so we could have more screen time. Had they given Luke more screen time for that final scene to be longer it would’ve been better. Disney is still not treating Luke right by any means and I just wanna grab him and wrap him up in a blanket and publish my own book on him.

That being said…

Luke was in the right. No, he wasn’t saying Grogu shouldn’t love his father. Again (and again and again) attachment is NOT relationships of any kind. It’s NOT love. How people still feel like that’s what Luke and the Jedi meant boggles my mind. Attachment is possessiveness and the lie of love. It’s a poison. Grogu had some of that and it was shown in season 1 when he tried to choke Cara out. He’s a toddler with power that can corrupt if not carefully guided.

Luke asked Grogu to unlock his memories and Grogu consented. Luke asked Grogu to choose the Jedi life now (and with his age may not ever see his father again; cause Din himself wasn’t coming back thanks to AHSOKA not Luke—funny how only he’s blamed when he clearly gave Din coordinates) or go back to his father now able to defend himself and Grogu thought about the choice and accepted what it could mean thanks to Luke’s guidance.

Honestly, with Luke’s affinity for love and his past with his father, I could’ve seen him urge Grogu to go back to Din (and maybe he did we just didn’t get to see it, friggen Disney) if not for the fact Grogu needs to learn to make hard decisions. He knows he has Luke and knows he has Din no matter what but he needs to learn to face the anxiety and consequences in the galaxy he’s living in.

You are 100% in how much freedom and respect Luke gives Grogu (is it maybe too much for what is about a toddler+? Maybe! Positives can turn to negatives in teaching and parenting and no one is perfect—-including Din) and is the one who really gives him back his inner strength and confidence.

Luke had Grogu for what? Two or three years? (SW really needs to work on providing us clear time jumps)The two were close. They clearly cared for each other. Luke let Grogu go after the choice was made. Grogu learned from that. He saw Luke be selfless and let him decide his path, even if it may keep them apart but there is the hope they will find each other again (IT SHOULD! God I want coparenting Dinluke). Luke is not turning his back to Grogu. Grogu can reach out and/or return at any time and Luke will answer.

So yes, Luke was right.
