I sent my tattoo artist a pretty basic thank-you email in response to his (likely auto-generated by his scheduling software) thank-you email to me after my tattoo last week. I gushed a little bit over his artwork (it's fucking stunning and this tattoo keeps making me all giddy with happiness that it's finally in my skin but also already it feels like it's just always been a part of me?) and then I wished him a lovely day/week/month idk and said that I hoped his future clients treated him like the treasure that he is (because I adore this kid).

And in a follow-up email he said that my previous email was still making him happy and brightening his days? Like? Baby-love, it wasn't anything that wasn't true?

And lately I'm trying to fight my brain's natural instinct to downplay the nice things that people say about/to me but also I legitimately and sincerely believe that my email was just something pretty basic and obvious.

Are this guy's clients just taking him for granted and not showering him with the praise his work deserves, or is he just a lil over-the-top in his gratitude because it keeps clients coming back for more?

The girl next to the empress is a princess, though I don't recall the exact order for her blood and title. Like, she's the Emperor's daughter, but I don't recall if she's the Empress's daughter or a concubine's. I have to assume that she's the Empress's daughter, because otherwise she probably wouldn't be placed so closely? Based on what little else we learn of Empress Omurasaki.

Asebi had no name before this!!!! Wild??? Like does her family just call her "second daughter"? Does she have no friends who gave her a name? She seems naive, her voice high-pitched and bright, excited to be here, but she does make sure to assure the Empress that she's delighted for the name. Unclear at this point if it's general politeness or knowing how to play the game.

Shiratama's also not a first daughter! We don't see the Empress giving her a name. Is that a cultural difference, between the North and the East, or did we just not need to see it happen with two girls? Who knows! Fun to consider though.

I will say flat-out that where each girl is from sadly does not come into play as much as I'd like, especially considering our other major character, so you don't really need to remember where each one is from. Just that they're all from different regions compared to each other! They're all stated to be nobility, and no families double-dipped!

The older woman in green is Asebi's main attendant, that came from her home iirc, and the one reading off the declaration about the start of the Rite is the... I don't recall if we get her official title, but she's basically the head of the Palace Guard for the noblewomen as well as a Master of Ceremonies. If something has to do with upsetting how all the girls interact with each other, instead of their personal details, she's the one that has to take care of it.

I also adore the difference in everyone's clothing! Hamayu almost looks like she has armor, Masuho is very decorated while maintaining an elegance, Shiratama already looks like she's wearing a veil girl is determined to win this, and Asebi with the ribbons and pink palette is trying too hard to be childish. Like, there's simultaneous character beats and showing us that even as far as what their staff and families can prepare them for, some of these women are better off than the others.

Last two shots included just to show that the part of the Palace is basically locked up, this competition is basically in a toybox, they are contained within the larger palace within a mountain (also the worldbuilding of this is a very vertical-oriented city, they're using the giant ravens in place of horses to take their carriages around)

Ok final gush post of the day

This might be me bc my normal routine is putting on lotion or oil for my dry ass skin, the thought of like Kath and Hobie generally caring for eachother, after the shower he helps her dry her hair and brushes it for her, in return. She helps him with hair care before he puts his bonnet on for the night.

Just the little chats and jokes they make when hobie helps her put on lotion for her legs, maybe he finds a cut or two and puts on those cheezy ass bandaids.

I want them to touch and be intimate, hands gliding over skin like butter, no bad intention in their heads, only wanting to improve eachother and touch eachother for the night. To make themselves clean and soft.

Hahahahhahaa I say that last post and immediately the next bit is Natsuka butting in.

This is not for a crowd, it's only in the presence of the Southern lord. But he presumably will report to the Empress. So is this still kind of a high-stakes act? Or at these two being genuine right now? Is one of them baiting the other into slipping up? Does Natsuka act for his own sake, for Yamauchi's, or for the Empress's? At this point, on a first viewing, I was confident to say his ambitions and desires are separate from the Empress, but I couldn't say if he was trying to act more humble to obscure a want for the throne or if he is zealous and dedicated to the duties of the royalty.

Nazukihiko keeps his high manner throughout this, but does decide to leave once Natsuka has said his peace. So is he taking the comments about being too high and mighty to heart, or is he merely amusing himself?
