♡ the bakery has a charming exterior, with its dusty pink walls, red and white striped awnings, and fairy lights strung outside the large windows. There are some sweet flowers and silk flowers planted outside the french doors and all along the windowsills.

♡ the bakery is quite popular for its study-friendly environment and delicious products, especially the salted caramel cinnamon buns. you had made them with the chefs on one of your off days and now it's a bestseller!

♡ so, you’re chatting with your friend and taking their order, as you usually do.

“yeah, i still have a ton of homework to do.”

you glanced over the counter as more customers lined up.

“okay, you better get going.”

your friend nods and waves goodbye. you barely look up from your cash register before saying your usual “hi there! what can i get for you?”.

“hmm, what would you recommend?” says a smooth voice.

your eyes shoot up to see a guy around your age. he has white locks of hair with a red streak that’s tied back into a loose ponytail, some strands escaping and framing his face. he carryies a bookbag and still has his uniform on, and you can see that he attends the same university you go to. a small smile adorns his features.

“um..maybe the salted caramel buns? i mean, they must be popular for a reason.” you blurt.

he nods.

“sure, i’ll have one with a vanilla latte.”

you send the order off and help the next customer, but your mind cant shake the interaction.

♡ the mysterious man starts to frequently visit the cafe, nearly everyday. eventually you asked him if he’d like to make an account so that he can save money.

he laughed and replied, “i already have an account. it’s under the name, 'kaedahara kazuha'.”

“oh! had i known i would’ve put that in so you’d spend less.” you said sheepishly.

“not to worry, i’m fine with giving a few extra dollars.” he said with a shrug and a smile.

“so, the usual today?” you asked, like you do everyday.

“sure. but…would you like to join me today?”

your eyebrows raised at this pleasant surprise. you glanced at the clock behind him.

“sure, my break is in like, five minutes anyways.”

kazuha nodded. “okay, then i’ll have two cinnamon buns today.”

a smile slowly spilled onto your lips.

♡ after tossing your apron in your locker, you headed to the table where kazuha was sitting. the two of you chatted as you ate the treats he had purchased.

♡ when your break was coming to an end, kazuha handed you a small note.

“here’s my number. call me, yeah?”

he smiled and waved before exiting the cafe.

i suppose “the cherry on top” was a fitting name for where you worked, because this really was the cherry on top.

Tighnari

i feel like he would be there to get a birthday cake for Collei, (im sorry it just sounds too cute) and you were at the front desk in your apron talking to a customer, when he walked in and ordered. you looked at him, asked what he would like and wrote a note down so you could remember - he ordered a "healthy" cake with green frosting on one side and red on the other with Cuilein anbars on the green side and baron bunnies on the red side. and then he also leaves his number woth the order bc he thinks your cute so you start to become friends. anyway, thats how you met onto when you start dating

you would come over to his house after your shift, or when you both have time, and bring him some baked goods for him and Collei/i feel like they would live together in a modern au, like Tighnari would still be her caretaker, just like in the game/. you and Tighnari would definitely bake together, and you would teach him how to bake certain pastries and stuff, and Collei/+Cyno maybe/could join if they wanted to (it would be so cute wtf). i also think he would be like a florist or smt, like he owns a flower shop, so he would bring you flowers or just plants in general. so the bakery would have a lot of plants that he´s given you. and your family (lovingly) hates him because where tf are they gonna put all these fricking flowers and stuff he gets you every week. tho their happy for you and they also got free decor for the bakery so they don´t really complain.

to him you´re like a rose, beautiful, even if sometimes you sting, he adores you just as much

Albedo

he was just there to study at first, maybe get some coffee and a piece of cake, when he saw you behind the counter he kinda.. uhm.. fell in love at first sight, yeah... anyway now/because of your beauty/he is there studying more often or when you´re there to be exact. your sibling or parent called it out but you denied it and didn´t think much of it. and then he finally asked for your number

when you finally start dating, he would still study at your bakery but it´ll be a little more often. and not only on your shifts but on other family members too, mainly bc he wants to get to know them better. he also brings his little sister, Klee, with him more often so she can meet you and your family + see the bakery. he also would make some artificial things for you, like flowers and stuff, you could either put in your room or around the bakery. yk the flower he makes in his idol or whatever its called, so like one of those or just anything you want really. he could also paint there, but he´ll just start painting you and he doesn´t want other people to think he´s stalking you.

Kazuha

he would visit the bakery once in a while, finding it relaxing to be there and finding great inspiration for his poems and stories. and something he has noticed is the beautiful person that is sometimes behind the corner/you hehe/and starts to slowly become his muse. he couldn´t help it its like keeping a secret from someone, but sharing it with the world at the same time. he finds himself going to the same place over and over again, only wanting to see your face one more time. (wtf happened to me) while he was unknowingly falling in love with this new muse, you were falling for him. (ok i need to fricking stop, omg)

when you two finally started dating, he still kept you as his muse, but this time you were both aware and laughed a little together because of it. anyway he would be there even more to just sit and write about something, then later in the day/or week if you both were busy/he would read them out to you. and at some point you would start giving him notebooks every few months just so he could write his poetry on something other than the tissues from the bakery(omg that would be so cute and hilarious at the same time). in return he would gift you your favorite flowers and try and learn to bake, even tho its not perfect he tries and you love it. sometimes you´ll bake something with him and teach him properly how to do something/or do it the way your family does it/and then after you eat it together.

Cyno

he´s a policeman (the hot kind) and there was an incident with your neighbor bc their store got robbed/in my mind it's a jewelry store but let your mind go wherever/so you got a few questions since you were on your shift at the time they came in. but you then after went into the back/your home to get your parents. and then after he started showing up more both because of the situation but also because he generally liked your pastries and cakes. even after the case ended he still came over on a lot of all of his breaks, maybe it was sometimes to see you but you ofc didn´t need to know that ;)

so when you guys started dating, he would ofc still come over but also look out for you, your family, and the bakery. also in his free time/even tho its not often/he would "help" you with baking. aka your teaching him how to bake bc he can´t for the life of him, but he brags to his friends abt it "cough". anyway, he would love to try some new recipes you find online or in your family cookbook, and help as much as he can. if you made him some pastries for him to take with him to work, he would fall even more `head over heels` in love with you, seriously do it. he would definitely stop anybody that tries to steal anything from the bakery, and get them arrested immediately.

Nilou

yk the cake she eats in game, that would definitely be the reason you two met. like it would be in the bakery´s window or smt and she would order that with a smile, while you where on your shift ofc. and she would get all exited and stuff. + she thinks the way you and your family make it is much better, so she´s basically a reguler bc she orders at your bakery so often. and then she starts to fall in love with one of the bakers there (you), and so she tries to find out when your shift is and stuff. (my brain couldn´t stop sry, that was a lot)

anyways, when you start dating she would definitely want to try and learn the recipe and bake it with you, but ofc she needs practice so she´ll eat your portion at the start, but you can´t complain you´ve literally done this your whole life ofc you´re better. she´d also want to meet your family early on bc you told her about some baking days when you test new recipes and stuff, so she´d be the taste tester and give tips if she could. aand you would give her discounts for some kisses. she would also dance in the bakery, with you and your family´s content ofc, so she could attract customers with her beautiful dancing.

to her you´re like cake, has many flavors, not all perfect but to her you are too perfect to enjoy only once

Xiao

i see him getting dragged there by some friends/yk aether, venti, kazuha, heizou and then scara is getting dragged there too. so basically 6rezze(sry if thats wrong) or 5wirl, but they aren´t famous/and they drag him to your bakery. bc they wanted to try the cakes and stuff. and your the one behind the counter(idk if thats a good thing or not, but ig it was?). and so you had to deal with some boys yelling at each other while one of them was completely silent/xiao/he just ordered and explained what the rest/but not for heizou, kazuha cuz i feel like they would already have ordered/you just got the pastries and cakes they ordered, and they then sat down seeming to calm down.

after you started dating he wouldn´t come to the bakery often, but he´ll definitely come over like once a week/before was like once or twice a month/and he won´t order much but is just there to support you. otherwise, if he comes to the bakery he´ll just go straight to the back to see you/they know who he is ofc, but for first-time workers that might be weird/and he would be a little sad if you were too busy to give him attention. if you give him some non-sweet cake or pastries he´ll love you even more(i swear thats impossible). he´ll also feed you, and let you feed him in return. if you want him to learn how to bake he´ll do it, but only if you teach him ofc. so there you are in your kitchen with xiao, trying to teach him to bake the non-sweet cake he likes.

When I met the season of Autumn, he carried the aura of fallen maple leaves and forgotten poetry lost to the wind. He also worked at a local bakery but even serving fresh donuts and vanilla cakes seemed like an ancient art when he did it. His pale white hair shimmered gracefully under the gentle white light of the bakery and he seemed to glow like an angel.

I couldn't help but watch him in awe as he worked while I sat in a corner of the bakery with piles of unfinished essays waiting for my attention. But it would be a crime to not admire what seemed to be a vintage painting brought to life.

"You've been staring at him for twenty minutes." An annoyed voice announced, shattering my daydream. I turned to look at my classmate, Yanfei.

"I don't think she can help it." Xingqui mused from where he sat next to me. I rolled my eyes before going back to admiring the bakery clerk, or at least I would've done that if he wasn't looking right at me with a gentle smile.

Hoyofair 2024 New Year Program

Personal thoughts and all that - this program is a mix of both Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail fan works, so I want to talk about both! I'm cherry picking the sections I have comments for, which is most of the program (and nearly all of the first half).

Managing dedication between both games... is pretty time consuming, haha. This is a HSR blog, but I really can't keep Genshin under wraps.

For the first half — Genshin Impact

The opening song is cute. They used both Aether and Lumine, and traveler twin appreciation is always appreciated.

Dive Into The Mystery was a bop! I like the singer's voice and the use of photographs and newspapers to highlight the characters of Fontaine. It gives off a mix of old and modern news. This kind of MV is fun to watch.

KIERU is back with another animation, this time Persona 5 style for the Fatui characters of Fontaine! Rogue on the Rocks is fully voiced, too! They don't miss. Arlecchino is... wow. I love Arlecchino.

The Knave MV: X is dedicated to Arlecchino. The transition from a jazz-y vibe in the previous video to rock sung by NANO threw me off for a bit, but it goes hard. The crying statue of Furina, and references to whoever I assume was meant as a stand-in for the previous Father...

The premise of Cyber Fontaine: The Last Bakery is? Something out there. Xiangling and Navia is not a duo I expected or ever thought about, but they work well together! This was an adventure to watch, blending action, suspense, comedy, hinting at a larger world in Fontaine, and with a satisfying end. The song they play sounds familiar but I can't quite place it...

Secrets of the Harbingers takes Charlotte into the deep end of journalism... anything for a good scoop, the people have a right to know the truth! Sprinkle in some hilarious posters in the background. The featured harbingers are Pantalone, Sandrone, and Il Dottore... quite the trio.

The animation for Furina: All the World's off Stage highlights Furina's time in the streets of her nation. She's a girl, it's her world! The music goes hard, Furina is living her best life off stage, and all is well in the world.

I think every year has featured at least one stop motion animation. I'm happy for that; stop motion is incredibly time-consuming. Not much to say about the Furina stop motion, I'm glad to see it.

The Best funeral service for you... Hu Tao is so dear to me. The phone number? The coupons? THE COURT CASE? Keep trying and you might get some customers soon.

Subutai Production returns for Furina VS Nahida: Trial of the Archons! Fully voiced court room drama between the gods. Theater kids. Love that for them.

Genshin Magicka: Little Witches, in the same style as Little Witch Academia! Collei, Yoimiya, and Sucrose are our student witches, with La Signora as the antagonist and Nahida to be saved.

Modern AU with characters vibing together for Travel to Your World. Tighnari keeps the ears. Big sis Jean is always going to be Klee's sister, no matter the world. Thoma going grocery shopping with Navia pulled a smile out of me, and transitioning to Ayaka shopping for Genshin plushie merch (all the plushies are official merch, by the way) got me to laugh. Everyone is wearing such fashionable outfits. Idol group Amber/Nilou/Barbara/Yunjin VS girl group Yelan/Ei/Yae Miko/Eula, then boy band Al Haitham/Cyno/Scaramouche/Wrio(???)... I was genuinely surprised to see him there. 4nemo with Kazuha/Heizou/Lyney/Venti! They're not the OGs but they are sure four anemo boys. So many characters from different regions would be friends in the modern world... I can definitely see Dehya and Childe hanging out in a bar together. The ending, though, with all five released archons - what a way to end the year.

The Way Colored in Starlight concludes the first half of the program, rolling credits with art by Kurattes. I'm glad to see their art at the end of the year. They've done a lot of stuff for previous New Years and Anniversaries, so it feels fitting. And y'know, Lumine love!

For the second half — Honkai: Star Rail

The opening song is another bop! What a beat, what a voice!

Galactic Grand Prix! Animated by MIOTA ANIMATION! I'm pretty sure they're a studio. Argenti's teammates are Stelle and Clara, while Asta has Welt and Pela, leaving Luka with Fu Xuan and Herta. Hard to tell who won (it cuts off at the end to transition to Lynx) but way later in the stream an announcer mentions Asta got first place, with Luka leading in second and Argenti placing third.

Luka shines in Sparks Yet to Fly! From the program list, this was the one I was most excited for. I don't care for him that much, but I think he's an interesting guy. The people behind this video seem to care a lot about him from how well produced this video is; he has his fans among this world, too. Pretty sure the audio they use is from the HSR OST, though not sure which track.

Nowhere to Run takes Blade down memory lane, with the fall of the High Cloud Quintet to chasing a shadow of Dan Feng to him joining the Stellaron Hunters. The song that plays is Oracle, from Honkai Impact 3rd. I knew I recognized it, but it took me a while to figure out the name of the song... I'm not a HI3 player.

The Astra Express trio in Our Trailblazing Adventures kicks off with Stelle and Caelus, March awakening from the ice, and Dan Heng on a bridge on the Luofu. Overall a wholesome trio going about their lives, do not separate them.

The one afterwards is Dr. Ratio dancing in only a towel. This is more like a meme song, but it's funny, so I like it.

Dead Girl Walking leads us to the Ten Lords Commission! It focuses on Hanya and Xueyi, to be precise. To be honest, I thought it was going to be a Heathers reference at first. Nice animations!

I'm happy with Pink Ambience. Elysia is my favorite HI3 character, and hearing TruE play moved me to nearly tears. I wish she would appear in HSR... but even if not, it's okay (and I'm confident it won't happen because that would turn over her entire purpose; she's meant to be a unique existence, she can't exist outside of the role she already had). March would be good friends with Elysia.

Took me a while to realize Funny Bone was about Sampo, I really thought they were all OCs from the Masked Fools. Just your ol' buddy and pal, Sampo! The song is a banger, and the animation reminds me of Arcane, sort of. A blend of 3D and painting, I guess? I love the ending.

Dan Heng Rises takes us back to the fight against Phantylia, now animated. The great galactic batter Stelle herself fights alongside Jing Yuan, Welt, March, and Dan Heng to take her down! Dan Heng catches March from falling, it's cute. Welt uses the Star of Eden! It's nerfed but still effective enough to give Dan Heng a boost! Lightning Lord shows up too! I didn't expect much going in, but this video is great. Power of friendship triumphs, after all.

A lot of the people who saw Cyrille's Doll likely forgot about who she is. She's an NPC you can encounter in Belabog as a child, but is dead in the present due to unfortunate circumstances beyond her control. You get to go through her story throughout the quest chain Vessel of Mediocrity. The song for this one is called てるてる坊主 or Teru Teru Bouzu, which apparently is a children's nursery rhyme. It also refers to the white dolls/charms crafted to bring in good weather; if you've seen Weathering With You, then you know what they look like.

Lynx in Winterland is just Lynx exploring. It's a wholesome video, and that's all I have to say. I'm sure Lynx is a nice character, but I don't care about her that much, to be frank (same boat as Luka).

The rolling credits play with a piano cover of Fly Me To the Moon... which is pretty fitting, given HSR's space themes, and the lyrics of the song. Let me see what life is like starward, forevermore.

diluc doesn't know when, but he's started looking forward to your visits. through all the hells of customer service, he's managed to find a heaven in you- in you, and your voice, and your enchanting smile. there are days when your orders are to-go. for those, his feelings seep into the way he packs your drink. a napkin neatly folded; an uncharacteristic cupsleeve note.

and for the days you eat in, he ensures to bring you a plate of brownies; "it's a slow day," he says, when the day isn't slow at all. just today, for instance, a long line snakes at the counter. but diluc still approaches your table with the usual arrangement of brownies- slipping an unassuming napkin under the plate. not unassuming enough, however, for it catches your attention like nothing else. so you unfold it, seeing a note in the most diluc handwriting you've ever seen:

"would you care to join me for dinner tonight?"

albedo ; bookshop encounters.

albedo's first meeting with you is etched into his mind. he was skimming through a book, wondering if it was worth a purchase, when you suddenly approached him. "that's a great book, you should get it!" and somehow, your smile was inebriating. his mind, usually bustling with thoughts, went blank. "uh- yeah. thanks, i will." and he'd realised, upon meeting you time and time again, that he enjoys your presence. that he enjoys you.

today would be the one year anniversary of your first encounter. he decides to buy you a gift; what would be more fitting to commemorate the memory than a book? so he presents you his favourite novel with an messy note sitting atop it. his gaze drifts away in a bashful spell. and as you read it, with all its verbose expressions of gratitude, an uncontrolled red creeps up to your cheeks. albedo's eyes revisit your face- and he is stunned.

"you're blushing," he whispers in awe, "it's cute."

thoma ; hardworking bakers.

thoma finds it hard to imagine working in his humble bakery without you there to work with him. your presence is an asset to the shop- and a treasure to him. he loves seeing you out in front, ruthlessly dealing with customers who don't know any better. he loves closing up shop beside you, dancing to your favourite songs while cleaning in the nightly ambience.

and most of all, he loves baking with you- especially on days like today, when business is running slow and there's time to pass by. you've suggested trying out a new recipe, and he agreed. as usual, a youthful conversation erupts as you start kneading and filling. you're busy washing stray utensils when thoma calls you to try one of the trial buns. and when you tell him you're busy, he comes up behind you with a sneakily innocent grin. his face is dangerously close- such that you're almost sharing breaths.

"look here, i'll feed you."

kaedehara kazuha ; a late night flower.

kazuha's always taking the closing shift. it's not like he doesn't have a choice- he just wants to pass by you, who routinely walks past right as the sign on the door flips "closed". his greeting to you is a smile more gentle than the wind. your smile back is his gratification; an encouragement for him to go to work the next day. and this becomes such a habit that when he doesn't see you on time, he worries.

today, he is uneasy as he locks the store door. you're nowhere in sight. he considers flipping the sign painfully slowly- hoping you'd appear when he's done like a superhero answering their call. when you don't do exactly that, he waits- not minding the hour that passes, until he hears your distinct footsteps. the look of shock is a new one for him, and he's happy to witness another one of your many expressions. "kazuha...? you're still here?" a smile. "yeah." kazuha fishes a rose from his pocket.

Zhongli: Small candies

Whenever you would finish up all your chores for the day or when you started to feel a little gloomy, Zhongli started to carry around candies cause of you. Little packets of small candy that he would drop on your hand smiling when you would look at them excitedly as he told you to save them in your candy jar where you have been collecting most of your candies.

Diluc: Dark chocolate

Diluc wasn't expecting you to react that hugely to the bitterness of the dark chocolate, he didn't think it was that bitter and you looked a little down when he remembered he got dark chocolate bonbon from a friend. Your bitter face was a surprise to him as you ran to the kitchen for something to clear your mouth with. Kaeya and Childe laughed so much when Diluc asked why you reacted like that when he thought the chocolate was fine.

Kaeya: Mint candy 

The mint candy was more of a joke, when you were waiting for Kaeya to finish his modeling shoot he had given you a box of candy that you could eat if you are feeling bored. Small white pills, with a cool smell you decided to take one. The shoot had to stop for a moment when they heard muffled pain from you, refusing to drink water yet at the same time suffering from how strong the mint was. On the side, Kaeya was just laughing at your pain, while he takes you in his arms apologizing and promising that he would buy you something you want after the shoot.

Albedo: Macarons and marshmallows

Something sweet Albedo would sometimes bring to you, sometimes from the bakery near his workplace or sometimes Klee’s mother would give. A lot of the time tho he would bring macarons each time a different flavor and design as he watched how excited you become for them. But sometimes he can't help but buy marshmallows too when he saw how round your cheeks become when you eat them.

Ayato: Hard candy with jam inside or jellies

Ayato had heard what Kaeya did to you and decided to give you a different surprise. Giving a small candy you tasted the sweet flavor of the candy, Ayato can't help but pat your head when your eyes suddenly brighten after a while told him you tasted the jam inside it too. Sometimes he brings jellies with filling in them for you to snack on.

Childe: Pepero / pocki

If Childe could he would have taken you to many cafes and dessert stores already how unfortunate it was when Diluc threatened him not to (in fear of your teeth rotting and your health.) It happened when you were not really close with everyone then when Childe gave you a box of pocky, you proceeded to give everyone one in the box but for Childe you gave two looking down in shyness as you thank him. He can't help himself but hug you that day.

Venti: Beer gummy candy

This is better than that one time he left liquor chocolates on the table in the living room... it was Thoma who gave you one without knowing till you start coughing at the taste. Poor boy almost looked like he had a heart attack, that he did something wrong when Venti appeared apologizing for leaving that box of chocolates like that. As an apology, you got those gummy beer candies that Venti assured the other brothers that they didn't have any alcoholic contents in them. Xiao: Icecream

There was that one time you remembered when you and Xiao were together playing a game in the summer till the aircon broke. The two of you were so hot that you decided to have that huge tub of ice cream in the freezer too bad that Xiao wasn't able to stop you from eating too much that you had a tummy ache from eating over half of the tub. Yeah.. Zhongli was furious at Xiao all the while you had to promise Kaeya who was trying not to laugh that you won't use your puppy dog eyes anymore.

Kazuha: Dango

Japanese sweets. There was one shop that Kazuha would occasionally take you to was a particular shop that sold Japanese desserts. It wasn't often that he took you there as it was a bit far but you always had trouble picking what you want to eat back but Kazuha would always order dangos on the side with whatever new dessert you haven't tried yet.

Thoma: Homemade desserts

Thoma always tried to include you in the baking / making progress on any dessert he wanted to try.  The two of you would wear a cute apron as you tried to mix the batter and decorate the cookies. You made a lot of dessert with him, brownies, cakes, pies and tarts. And at the end of the day, you would look at your brothers with hope in your eyes that they like the desert you made with Thoma.

Itto: Donuts

He won a bet that day it seems and as a prize, he got a box of donuts from them. 6 of them! Ho, ho he was just so excited as he shared with Shinobu and the gang. But when one of the team members tried to reach for that last donut his hand got slapped as Itto told him that this was for his little sister!! Itto went back home bubbling with excitement holding a box with one donut inside just for you!

Chongyun: Popsicle

You always saw Chongyun eating a popsicle wherever he goes. Somehow like magic, he is always able to store up like 3 of 4 of them somewhere and they just won't melt! But when you tried them they tasted rather bland, just water really. Deciding that Chongyun is somehow suffering eating those popsicles you pulled him to the kitchen to make more popsicles this time with fruits in them or other sorts of drinks (sodas or fruit juice)!

Bennett: Strawberry granny candies

Strawberry candies, given by the grandma down the street who knows Bennett after she watched him get caught in multiple accidents one by one. Maybe it was pity but she started giving him strawberry hard candies whenever she saw him. But after she found out about him having a little step-sister she started giving him two strawberry candies which he always shared with you.

"I've been thinking," Ran begins as she rounds on the last hundred or so of the goo monsters in her assigned zone. "Maybe we should open that bakery after all."

It'd been a relatively harmless incident as far as their record went, especially now that Widow had gone on ahead and very percussively put the originating portal out of commission. Which meant they just had to whack the remaining bits of otherworldly goo until they went dormant enough for cleanup.

The glorp-thud of the shield going against less-than-solid material peppers the background of Shinichi's reply. "Yeah?"

"I was talking to Chiyoda-san from the Tower's lobby cafe the other day – the baker that usually supplies them is going on a holiday for two weeks, and anyway they want something fun to help lift spirits a bit! From all the not so great news lately, you know."

"So you want to use that as a trial run? Sounds good." Glorp-thud. Glorp-thud. Shinichi's amusement is audible. "How about those rainbow shield cookies you made last week?"

"That, and I was thinking something more special too." Ran's own grin is almost concerningly wide, though not of the unholy-glee variety that Kazuha would be having in this situation. "Maybe Cap and Soldier cookies? It'd be a nice way to show appreciation to everyone who supported us through the trial, too, and we can always have a special deal for buying both t–"

Shiho's voice bursts into the conversation right then. "Flirting? On my comms line? Apparently more likely than you think!"

"This is the general channel, Miyano," Shinichi points out, and Ran's pretty sure his expression has inched into outright evil now. "But of course, I'm sure Ran will reserve you a set of those cookies free of charge, as our most dignified host–"

That gets two responses in quick succession: a cut-off complaint about pre-marital flirting, AGASA, or so help me– and a disconnect sound whose resemblance to a disgruntled cat noise Ran will never point out.

"Looks like we're clear," Ran reports, running the comms check like Kazuha had shown her before. "Shiho-san kicked us to a private channel, I'm pretty sure she won't be checking in any time soon."

Glorp-thud, goes the shield as Shinichi snickers. "Toyama's gone to find a cake?"

"And some wine and snacks," Ran confirms. "She said she knows a couple places to try around here, from when she was Shiho-san's PA. And I saw a party shop on the way over, they probably won't have anything fancy but that can wait until we get back to the Tower anyway."

"Seriously, the chances of this taking us out of town on this exact day," Shinichi mutters, and Ran has to agree – they'd already planned out a surprise birthday party with Momiji and Sera, but there's no way they're getting back to the Tower by tonight. "Then I guess I'll have to find someplace willing to host a last-minute party for dinner. Probably gotta get rid of all this goo first, though."

Ran can't help laughing at the idea of a goo-bedraggled Shinichi knocking at doors; his reputation had been helped by Hidemi-san's article but not that much. "Probably. And I was being honest, I do think the bakery is a good idea! Especially if we get Ayumi-chan and the rest to help run the logistics, I know they've been wanting to make it up to Shiho-san for how much she helps Mitsuhiko-kun."

"And maybe if we keep them busy enough that'll stop Spiderman and friends from getting into trouble," comes the answering grumble.

Ran rolls her eyes and goes back to goo-squishing, instead of pointing out that Shinichi had been getting into so much more trouble at their age.

(Then again, that trouble had been a pretty big part of why they'd ever ended up here, so she supposed it had turned out fine after all.)

ooooooh baker au 👀 hmmmm ok wait. it’s coming. it’s coming.

i see a struggling college student childe who knows how to bake because his mother has a sweet tooth. he stumbles into this barely noticeable bakery that had zero customers. zhongli’s the owner but he unfortunately can’t bake and his ex-baker left to pursue culinary school. now, business is suffering. they strike up a deal and childe becomes a part-time baker. over time, business becomes lively again and they hire a stoic but gentle barista, diluc and his eccentric brother kaeya sometimes pops by with a bunch of customers in tow, obviously allured by his beauty.

and then there’s you, another struggling college student who is frowned upon by the gods because out of nowhere a strong thunderstorm falls and you’re forced to seek shelter in the corner bakery store you’ve never been into looking like a hydrated seaweed. just your luck, the baker is hot and he’s smiling at you before noticing your shivers so he promptly offers his jacket. you return the next day, and the next, striking up odd conversations with the cute, lively ginger head who always seems to glow brighter at the sight of your entrance. he knows your favorite table and makes sure no one’s sitting there around the time he knew you’d drop by. he’s had your favorite drink memorized, pointedly telling diluc to make sure your drink is perfect and he always sneaks in an extra slice of your favorite bread before he finally gets the courage to ask you out through a hastily written note on a tissue paper that reads ‘i’m a stud muffin. why don’t you take a bite?’ you laugh at the sheer cheesiness and childe blushes because he swears that’s the most beautiful sound he’s heard but also because you’re writing something back. you leave with a shy smile and a wave and childe almost stumbles over his feet to go to your table and he can’t help the boyish smile and the excited hop in his steps as he recounts the words you wrote back: ‘take me to your bakery because i want a cutiepie like you <3’
