Summary:
In the distant past, the Guardian of the Milky Way galaxy named Lanancuras began to harbor a desire for more power. Because of his connection to the galaxy, he was able to absorb parts of planets and add them to his strength. As a result, he began invading the worlds he was assigned to protect. In the wake of his destruction, a following of creatures from across the galaxy pledged allegiance to Lanancuras and became known as the Kadrians. Taking notice of his ever-growing power and followers, the other Celestial Guardians confronted him; however, he had become too powerful, and they were defeated. Unable to subdue Lanancuras, the Celestial Guardians each gave up a part of their power and combined it into a single new Guardian, Mushra. In a final desperate attempt, they used Mushra's core by transforming it into a powerful card with which to seal Lanancuras in a prison. The prison was created from the remains of planets that had suffered under Lanancuras' tyranny. Because planets are themselves large beings, their combined strength (along with the power of the card) was able to restrain him. Thus Lanancuras was successfully sealed in a large meteorite.
The meteorite was sent off into the galaxy to be sealed forever. Meanwhile, the way Lanancuras had increased his strength had consequences on the planets of the Milky Way On Earth, around the 22nd century, it was in the shape of a virus that merged with human DNA and destroyed the humans that way. In order to eliminate the virus, scientists worked on combining human DNA with the DNA of animals and other creatures immune to the effects. They succeeded and created a sentient race known as Enterrans (a race of engineered Earthlings) which are based on humans, insects, reptiles, birds, sea creatures, wild beasts, and phantom beasts. Eventually, a cure was found and the human race survived.
However, due to Lanancuras' influence, the Enterrans fought their human creators as well as the robots that worked with the humans, driving the human race to a near extinction state. Luckily, a scientist named Dr. Daigo Tatsuro placed his 4-year-old daughter Yakumo in a sleep chamber in hopes that she would save the human race and find the human sanctuary Shinzo and bring peace back to Earth which was then renamed to Enterra. When the meteor that Lanancuras was imprisoned in struck Earth during the earlier parts of the Human-Enterran War, its fragment had struck an infant Yakumo giving her abilities that she would later discover.

Further Research - Video Games
After presenting my 'What's the Plan' slides, I wanted to take a closer look into video games - specifically those built upon the foundations of experimentation and interactivity.
Tumblr media
youtube
Here is a really interesting insight into artist Ian Cheng and his "video games that play themselves". I first found out about Ian from a book in the library, and thought that his work was really a like to nothing I'd see before in the video game world.

Tumblr media
I also went on a humongous Love-De-Lic deep dive, looking into all of their respective games and the philosophies behind them. Love-de-Lic, Inc. was a Japanese company that developed video games. It was founded by Kenichi Nishi in 1995. After producing three amazing adventure games, the company disbanded in 2000, going their separate ways to other small and independent game companies such as skip Ltd., Vanpool, and Punchline. Each of these games were weird - completely contrasting the expectations of video games. My favourite would have to be Chulip, an adventure/simulation video game in which the player must improve the hero's reputation in the community of Long Life Town by kissing its various citizens. The interesting narratives and gameplay approaches these games that will be great inspiration for where I take my game.

Another inspiring artist is video game developer Keita Takahashi, the creator of Katamari Damacy, Wattam and Noby Noby Boy. His works are completly inane, pulling from childlike wonder and every day objects - crafting worlds so far away from ours. The way he approaches creating video games in such an artistic and emotional way rather than being corporate led is so interesting.

A Pixel Game Maker MV game is now for sale on Switch ⊟
I don’t know if Pixel Game Maker Series STEOS -Sorrow song of Bounty hunter- is a good game, but I know that what it represents is very cool. Users of the Pixel Game Maker MV game design software (basically the RPG Maker of top-down or side-scrolling 2D games of all kinds) can submit their games to Gotcha Gotcha Games Inc. for potential publishing, opening up actual game development and publishing in a new way.
I will note that I don’t exactly know what the terms of the publishing deal are! I mean, I’m sure there are terms.
Though I’m sure it’s not part of the Gotcha Gotcha submission process, this first release has deep roots in DIY amateur game publishing, as its producer is Tatsuya Suzuki, who directed Echochrome, a game that found its way to PSP via a Sony “Game Yarouze” competition.
Future releases include Dungeon of Nazarick, a spinoff of the Overlord light novel series; The Witch & the 66 Mushrooms, an original metroidvania-type game; along with La-Mulana creator Takumi Naramura’s Medium-Naut and a new game called Puzzl Pedestrians by Chibi-Robo creator Kenichi Nishi! And... you?

This article is part of a series where the Tofugu team visits Iron Chef restaurants, pitting them against each other in some kind of Iron Chef sequel. Come back and see new Iron Chef restaurant reviews, and (coming soon) a final ranking of them all!
Viet and I had high hopes for Chin Kenichi (Chen Kenichi, in the US), the only Iron Chef from the original series that battled through all six years and 309 episodes. We both had grown up watching Iron Chef almost religiously, and Chin—with a record of sixty-six wins, three ties, and a win percentage of 72.6%—was one of our favorites. He always seemed like he was having fun, and he made a lot of mabodōfu (some things never change).
But all this cooking didn't actually start with Kenichi-san. His father, Chen Kenmin, opened the first Szechuan restaurant in Nishi-Shinbashi, Tokyo, in 1958 (though it's now closed). He later opened a couple other restaurants, and is known to be the person who popularized Szechuan cuisine in Japan. His motto and philosophy was「料理は愛情。愛情のない料理はダメよ。」(Cooking is love. Cooking without love is no good.) It's no wonder his son became an Iron Chef, carrying his father's torch (though originally, he wanted to be a baseball player).
The particular restaurant we went to opened in 2001. It was the first of four that are a part of the "Szechuan Restaurant Chin Group." Their goal is to help customers enjoy "full-fledged Szechuan cuisine," and they try to "offer dishes that use seasonal ingredients from different genres with Szechuan's various seasonings."
We were, of course, very much looking forward to it.

L.O.L is initialism for Lack of Love, a 2000 Dreamcast game by Love-de-Lic. But it might as well stand for Labour of Love, as Sakamoto single-handedly composed, arranged, produced, performed and mixed this soundtrack in return for but a nominal fee. Additionally, he used mostly his own instruments, including a programmable music box (4. Transformation) and an antique pump organ he had restored (5. Mission). By using unexpected sounds and textures he aspired to produce music that would not be immediately recognized as game sound.
On the insert back notes, he expresses his gratitude for his friend and game designer Kenichi Nishi. The concept behind Lack of Love originated from their email exchanges on topics as broad as evolutionary biology, earth sciences or cybernetics. The history of video game music is replete with masterpieces, the talent of its past and present composers increasingly divulged, recognized and celebrated.
And yet there is a distinctive quality to Sakamoto's work that begs to be listened to. Attentively.
This soundtrack can be found on @Spotify or @Apple Music.
