Been a WHILE since I drew anything for Homestuck, going back over my old reference pics was a trip. I happened to download a bunch of random Clip Studio assets yesterday to use up some points before they expire, so I picked a brush at random to try out for this picture and it turned out to be perfect for sketchy pixel art in the Homestuck style.

@carmarthenfan @kentsarrow I hear you and I'm really sorry people have been saying that. Israel/Palestine (and gun control) have been the overwhelming reasons for people to send anon hate on my very milquetoast explicitly human rights based fact based nonpartisan side blog, and as it turns out, reposting straight up Amnesty International content on Facebook will also cause outrage! I always try to be thoughtful about what I put out on social media and whether I'm sufficiently informed but "don't commit war crimes " should not be an unsayable and unthinkable opinion especially when my own government is supplying military backup toward this exact goal.

Thanks to everyone who voted in my poll! It'll stay up for a few more days but the numbers have been pretty stable for a while.

And the winner is…"reblog with disagreement but if possible reblog the OP, not you", so that's what I'll try and do going forward. I have sometimes worried it comes across as passive aggressive, so I guess I will just say here: it's not! I'm trying to be polite!

Runner up was "it's really context dependent", which is fair.

A couple of people said "private message", and while I said I'd never do that, on further thought I have done that, from time to time, when something felt better discussed in private. My idea of when that is may not match yours, but it's definitely on the table.

To the person who'd rather be unfollowed (or anyone else who'd like me to unfollow them for any other reason): if I haven't already picked that up you're going to have to tell me. (Or soft block me, though I might not realise it wasn't a tumblr bug and just follow you back once I notice >.>) But if you do (politely) ask me to unfollow I won't hate you for it! It's happened before and was certainly awkward for all parties but not the end of the world, and we don't have to become Mortal Enemies Who Never Speak etc. Unless that's what you want! All requests for mortal enemyship will be respected!

That's really good to hear! And yeah it's fine if you're not up for replying. Often I'm mostly rambling my thoughts into the ether to figure out what they even are.

I laughed at "you literally never post opinions" and checked that, because opinions go elsewhere. But if I ever do have an opinion, reblog and discuss away! I always value your takes on things, and I think I have the same preference for being argued with in good faith that you do and hope that other people will feel comfortable doing so with me. (And if discourse strangers happen, well, it happens -- I can always step away from the internet. xD)

I've read Dracula numerous times throughout my life but I love reading it in this way so far. It's a neat & fresh way to consume the story. It's especially cool to be reading it with half of tumblr, many of whom are apparently reading the story for the first time!

yeah lol and like, "that genocide was bad and corrupted all of us spiritually, but ultimately we are The Good Guys and the genocide survivor sucks" covers the broad plot points but this isnt even getting into "ancient egyptian kaiba was straight for a white (? or at least very pale, not albino, just pale) girl" (he also just. is very boring.), or the now canon whitewashing of the dark magician, or the weird bumbling comedy relief guy who feels kind of racist, or the Cousinzoning of kaiba ancestor (edit: not his literal ancestor. like his previous reincarnation (?)) and atem lol

Oooh, three very fun times for me were

The first 3-4 seasons of MLP:FiM, where there was an huge explosion of fic and art of all kinds - I can't remember the last time I read so widely in tone and genre within a single fandom, from shipfic to adventure-focused fic to darkfic to worldbuilding. I will always have a soft spot for the show and its fic because of that.

The gap between catching up to S1E8 of Starship Iris and waiting for the next episode, as well as the post-S1 hiatus. Had so much fun writing fic and bouncing ideas off other people, and I owe so much writing momentum to that time

Critical Role Campaign 2, especially the end of 2019 around the big cathedral fight to the early 2020 covid-induced hiatus. So much good art, canon was serving up great dynamics, and Beauregard was a fave that was also a fave of both canon and fandom, delightfully enough.

@kentsarrow tagged me in a song meme and my brain went ENTIRELY blank, and when I decided to just pick songs I like as I encounter them on the radio etc I kept forgetting. But then it occurred to me music videos are more fun to post individually anyway. So! I shall post songs as the universe provides.

1: Blackway & Black Caviar - "What's Up Danger". It's fantastic in Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse, as demonstrated by this music video, but is also just a cool song in general. I love the idea of "danger seeking" as like...having a weird almost friendship with Danger.

Last show: Laid-Back Camp (a rewatch of both season 1 and season 2 in Spanish dub on Crunchyroll, since I’m always interested in how other languages dub Japanese anime regardless of my fluency in them. Disclaimer: I am not at all fluent in Spanish). I was also rewatching previous seasons of Disenchantment and half-watched The Mandalorian, which I never saw until recently. I recently finished some movies, though, which are “The Producers” (2005) and “Dick Tracy” (1990). I liked all the characters in Dick Tracy except for Dick Tracy himself, that guy was kinda boring; great aesthetics, though!

Currently watching: Midnight Asia, a pretty cool travel show that depicts nightlife subcultures in various Asian metropolises. Also am catching up on the K-Drama “Thirty-Nine” which is delightfully emotional and full of beautiful people.

Currently reading: “Sandy Hook: An American Tragedy and the Battle for Truth” by Elizabeth Williamson, published by Penguin Random House, 2022. I saw an excerpt from this book recently from Slate (this article specifically) and it was very interesting, especially when it pertains to the current January 6 hearings.

Nonfiction: See above, but also am concurrently reading “From Front Porch to Back Seat: Courtship in 20th Century America” by Beth L. Bailey, and published by Johns Hopkins University Press, 1989. (It’s really interesting to see how dating has changed from the turn of the century America and what motivates these changes, from changing economics, various wartimes, and reflections of daily life Americans. I also am writing fanfiction based in the early 1920s and sorta am triangulating how people lived in the world during that time by reading various nonfiction books that includes portrayals of life during that time period).

Last book: “Life and Times of Michael K” by J. M. Coetzee, which I read for when attending creative writing classes at UCLA Extension. It’s very bleak, but I think it’s very well-written and thought-provoking.

3) Favorite boss? HM! Genichiro - Sekiro I think. High curve for learning the boss and for first time playing it I was stuck on him for hours. which, admittedly is NOT fun and if it wasn't for how [redacted] that game is I would've quit. And yet. Now? Now?? BAHAHAH I can not play the game for years and hop right back into that fight and know the entire thing off by heart. Actually a really predictable boss that tests the basic skills of the game really well. Also fun to boot. Also fun to beat around and especially funny that you can get him stuck on a door and wail on him #speedrun strats (never done that personally but you can do it)

9) Most hours you’ve put into a single game? Mmm do I want to share that information? Probably Destiny 2 but there's no way for me to actually know the hours because it changed launchers lol. Doesn't help that it is an online game I think online games are always going to be the 'longest played' because of how they are.

14) Worst game you’ve ever played? Low hanging fruit. Sorry DMC2, your troubled development comes through way too much 😔. And coming off the back of and highs of the 1st game made your problems all the more apparent. I tried to find something to enjoy, a glimmer of something but it really is too barebones of a game... I do wish they'd put Lucia in another one of that thangs so she gets some time to shine without being saddled in the worst game of the series.

21) A game you thought you wouldn’t like, but ended up loving? Again, I don't really know! I usually have the inverse experience...I suppose something like Resident Evil (REmake) fits the bill if you look at it over the course of many years...never thought I'd be into horror games but a gradual taste of them meant I could attack at them with a voracity I'd never expect nowadays. Easily fell in love with that thang now but if I was to play it like 5 to 10 years prior I would not have fucking liked it.
