the older i get the more often i encounter situations where someone makes a joke or points something out that I don't get because I don't struggle to differentiate between letters and whatever blurry thing they were seeing is probably funny but I wouldn't know
#thots et al#example from just now: post saying kerning is important folks dont be a 'bum hazard'#looks at the image#it just says burn hazard#prior to age like 21 i had no frame of reference for these things#now i at least try and operate under the assumption that any given person could be seeing like 20% less than me#which on one hand has made me more patient and understanding#but on the other has made me even more terrified that so many people are allowed to drive cars#when like half of us are vision impaired (often uncorrected when driving which is illegal)#like even i know im not takin in as much information as my brain thinks it is when driving bc at high speed our brains fill stuff in#but god. how much worse must it be it be for other people?

Statement from Tristan Kern de Gonzales
Husband of Jonathan Joss
My husband Jonathan Joss and I were involved in a shooting while checking the mail at the site of our former home. That home was burned down after over two years of threats from people in the area who repeatedly told us they would set it on fire. We reported these threats to law enforcement multiple times and nothing was done.
Throughout that time we were harassed regularly by individuals who made it clear they did not accept our relationship. Much of the harassment was openly homophobic.
When we returned to the site to check our mail we discovered the skull of one of our dogs and its harness placed in clear view. This caused both of us severe emotional distress. We began yelling and crying in response to the pain of what we saw.
While we were doing this a man approached us. He started yelling violent homophobic slurs at us. He then raised a gun from his lap and fired.
Jonathan and I had no weapons. We were not threatening anyone. We were grieving. We were standing side by side. When the man fired Jonathan pushed me out of the way. He saved my life.
Jonathan is my husband. He gave me more love in our time together than most people ever get. We were newlyweds. We picked Valentines Day. We were in the process of looking for a trailer and planning our future.
He was murdered by someone who could not stand the sight of two men loving each other.
I was with him when he passed. I told him how much he was loved.
To everyone who supported him, his fans, his friends, know that he valued you deeply. He saw you as family.
My focus now is on protecting Jonathan's legacy and honoring the life we built together.
If your concern is how someone coped with trauma or how loudly they speak when recounting injustice and being ignored by authorities then you never truly cared about my husband.
Jonathan saved my life. I will carry that forward. I will protect what he built.
- Tristan Kern de Gonzales
***
This is fucking heartbreaking. The cruelty of this is just unfathomable to me, but unsurprising. It seems that everywhere I turn are examples of boundless cruelty. Jonathan was a blessing in life, and may his memory forever be a blessing to us all. I will remember him. And I hope that this June is a fucking riot.

don’t know if you heard about it, but Jonathan Joss, the voice actor of John Redcorn in King of the Hill, was murdered recently in a homophobic hate crime. his house was burned down after years of threats towards him and his husband from his neighbors, killing their dogs. i won’t go into too much detail because it’s pretty horrific, but here’s a link that goes into more detail: https://people.com/jonathan-joss-husband-claims-harassment-homophobic-slurs-led-to-shooting-death-11746901
something i don’t see many people mentioning is that his husband, tristan, is trans, and the shooter was reportedly originally aiming for tristan but jonathan pushed him out of the way. queerphobes can and do use deadly violence towards us. we are absolutely targets to them because of our transmasculinity, and it is continuously erased by people who insist that it “isn’t that bad”.
the police have said that there’s no evidence of this being a hate crime, of course.
“My husband Jonathan Joss and I were involved in a shooting while checking the mail at the site of our former home,” the statement began. “That home was burned down after over two years of threats from people in the area who repeatedly told us they would set it on fire. We reported these threats to law enforcement multiple times and nothing was done.” “Throughout that time we were harassed regularly by individuals who made it clear they did not accept our relationship,” he went on to share. “Much of the harassment was openly homophobic.” According to the post, Joss and Gonzales allegedly found the remains of one of their dogs left out for them to see when they visited the property that day, causing them "severe emotional distress." “We began yelling and crying in response to the pain of what we saw," he explained. "While we were doing this a man approached us. He started yelling violent homophobic slurs at us. He then raised a gun from his lap and fired.” He continued: “Jonathan and I had no weapons. We were not threatening anyone. We were grieving. We were standing side by side. When the man fired, Jonathan pushed me out of the way. He saved my life.” “He was murdered by someone who could not stand the sight of two men loving each other,” Gonzales wrote. “I was with him when he passed. I told him how much he was loved. To everyone who supported him, his fans, his friends, know that he valued you deeply. He saw you as family. My focus now is on protecting Jonathan’s legacy and honoring the life we built together.” [...] "There’s not a need to donate to the gofundme," he wrote, referencing the GoFundMe page that was set up after their home burned down. "But I want everyone to remember the joy and love Jonathan has brought and will continue to bring forever. I have my essentials covered and our family in San Antonio is taking care of me until I get back to South Carolina. Instead of donating Jonathan and I would both rather you spread the word about the consistent injustice done to him, to us, and to our dogs. We had so many beautiful plans for the future."
Edit: It's also vital information that Jonathan Joss was an indigenous man. His death is a product of racism and queerphobia.

On August 27th, 2023, I started Hormone Replacement Therapy.
On August 27th, 2024, I summited the tallest point in the Continental US via the High Sierra Trail.
Both were things I knew I wanted to do for... Well, most of my life, but never had the guts to follow through. Until I got burned out enough that I realized I couldn't spend the rest of my life ignoring things like that.
It took a lot of troubleshooting to actually get HRT to work, but by late spring, I was hormonally female. Changes started to take off, and will continue for years- I'm starting to look back and wonder what I was worried about.
Training for the HST also took time, and again, I don't know what I was worried about. By the time I had "built up" to the HST, I had already done several things that were just as or more strenuous, and it went by easily.
Of course, that didn't make it any less spectacular. The pictures here follow my slow 7 days on the HST, starting at the Giant Forest, over the Kaweah gap, down into Kern Canyon, and over Whitney. The granite features of the Sierras are always incredible, and doing it on foot means a first hand look at all of the tiny shifts in flora and fauna along the way.
I'm slowly starting research back up, and feel way better about it than I did before. But now that I have the skill set, I'm absolutely gonna head back into the mountains from time to time, and I'm already dreaming about more ambitious hiking goals for the next few years. I'm coming for you someday, JMT.

Jonathan Joss was killed in a homophobic attack
That wasn't in any of the news articles I'd seen about it, so I looked around and it appears that his husband released a statement on his FB.

This just showed up 10 min ago
The husband of “King of the Hill” star actor Jonathan Joss alleged that the voice actor was murdered by a homophobic neighbor after enduring “years” of violent threats on their street.
Tristan Kern de Gonzales said in a Monday Facebook post that he and Joss had stopped by the site of their Texas home – which burned down in February – to pick up their mail on Sunday when they found the bones of their dead pet dog displayed on the property.
“This caused both of us severe emotional distress. We began yelling and crying in response to the pain of what we saw,” Gonzales wrote in the post. “While we were doing this a man approached us. He started yelling violent homophobic slurs at us. He then raised a gun from his lap and fired.”

Joss was struck in the gunfire and killed, Gonzales said, and died by his side.
A suspect and neighbor who lives doors down from the couple, Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja, was arrested shortly after the shooting.
Gonzales claimed the killing was just the culmination of a long saga of frightening homophobia the couple had endured on their street, claiming neighbors had spent years threatening to burn their home down – but that cops never intervened.
“He was murdered by someone who could not stand the sight of two men loving each other,” Gonzales said. _____________________________________________
It's Texas, so there's a fair chance he's gonna get the needle, or rope, or chair, or gas chamber, whichever they use there.
If it's gas there might be some justice in using clean natural propane to do the job, but that's probably not allowed.
Maybe the inmates are fans of the show and will take care of things instead.
This just compounds the tragedy

MAN OF PEACE
Moses is true and his Torah is true. (Talmud, Bava Batra 74a) Be of the disciples of Aaron; one who loves peace, pursues peace, loves God’s creatures and draws them close to Torah. (Ethics of the Fathers 1:12) Moses was the greatest prophet in Jewish history. He brought the Jews out of Egypt, received the Torah at Mt. Sinai, and led his people in the wilderness for 40 years. Yet the Lubavitcher Rebbe reminds us that another great man was always at Moses’ side: his older brother Aaron, an individual of unparalleled benevolence who didn’t resent Moses for his privileged upbringing in the palace or status as God’s chosen messenger. Leading the Jewish people was a team effort. Moses and Aaron’s roles were different yet complementary, as we see in this week’s parsha, Tetzaveh. Moses is responsible for bringing oil to light the ever-burning menorah in the Mishkan (Tabernacle), while Aaron is in charge of actually lighting the menorah. Both Moses and Aaron’s unique gifts were required to turn a notoriously stiff-necked people into God’s representatives on earth and a light unto the nations. The Midrash characterizes each man’s personal characteristics by referring to a verse from Psalms, “Benevolence and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed.” (Ps. 85:11) Aaron represents benevolence and peace, while Moses represents truth and righteousness. Righteous Moses brought the truth from Mount Sinai; benevolent Aaron helped the people live peacefully by that truth. Moses brings the oil, Aaron lights it.

It sounds like the public backlash against the San Antonio police for not considering Jonathan Jose’s murder as a potential hate crime has gotten them to change their tune. Please remember that making noise can and often does help.
HOUSTON (AP) — Investigators are looking into whether the sexual orientation of “King of the Hill” voice actor Jonathan Joss played a role in his shooting death in Texas, authorities said Thursday, walking back a previous statement about the potential motive.
Joss’ husband has claimed the person who killed the actor yelled “violent homophobic slurs” before opening fire outside his home in San Antonio on Sunday night. A day after the shooting, San Antonio police issued a statement saying they had found “no evidence whatsoever to indicate that Mr. Joss’ murder was related to his sexual orientation.”
But during a news conference on Thursday, San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said the statement was “premature” and that whether Joss’ sexual orientation played a role in the shooting “is part of the investigation.”
“I will own that and simply say again that we simply shouldn’t have done that. It was way too early in the process for any statement of that nature to be issued,” McManus said.
The police chief said many in the LGBTQ+ community “are feeling anxious and concerned” after Joss’ shooting and that “a lot of it has to do with that premature statement.”
“The loss of Jonathan Joss was tragic, most heavily felt by the LGBTQ+ community,” McManus said.
Texas does not have separate hate crimes charges. But if homophobia is found to have been a motive in the shooting, that could result in a harsher sentence at trial under the state’s hate crimes law.
“We gather the facts, and we give those facts to the district attorney’s office. And then that hate crime designation is determined at sentencing,” McManus said.
The actor’s home burned down in January. Joss’ husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, has said that they were checking mail there Sunday when a man approached them, pulled out a gun and opened fire.
In a statement, de Gonzales said he and Joss had previously faced harassment, much of it “openly homophobic.”
Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez, who is a neighbor of Joss, is charged with murder in the shooting. Ceja Alvarez has been released on a $200,000 bond.
Ceja Alvarez’s attorney, Alfonso Otero, did not immediately return an email seeking comment Thursday.
McManus said police had been called to Joss’ home and his neighborhood about 70 times over the past two years related to “neighborhood type disturbances.”
“Sometimes (Joss) was the caller. Other times, the neighbors were calling on him,” McManus said.
The San Antonio Police Department’s mental health unit as well as a unit known as SAFFE that works with residents to help prevent crime “had extensive engagements with Mr. Joss, making repeated efforts to mediate conflicts and connect him with services that he may have needed,” McManus said.
The January fire at Joss’ home is still being reviewed by arson investigators, McManus said.
Joss lost all his belongings in the blaze and his three dogs were killed.
Actors who worked with Joss, along with friends and fans have honored Joss’ memory with tributes.
“His voice will be missed at King of the Hill, and we extend our deepest condolences to Jonathan’s friends and family,” the show’s creators and producers — Mike Judge, Greg Daniels and Saladin Patterson — said in a statement on the animated series’ Instagram page.

Why do we still need Pride Month? Because of shit like this
"Joss’ husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, released a statement detailing what fueled the altercation, claiming homophobia as the root cause. Gonzales says the couple went to check the mail at the site of their former home, which had previously burned down. He says a man “yelling violent homophobic slurs at us” approached them and “raised a gun from his lap and fired.” Gonzales also said they were “harassed regularly” by the “openly homophobic” neighbor."

Joss anon who sends the news articles, I wanted to give you a breather so I wasn’t just pestering you with articles and stuff but neighbors of Jonathan released their statements and it contradicts Joss’ husband’s statement:
https://www.usmagazine.com/celebrity-news/news/jonathan-joss-death-final-moments-witnessed-by-neighbor/
Neighbor states the shooter never got out of their car, contradicts the husband’s statement that the shooter was standing over them laughing. Joss was also apparently shot in the neck and chest, not in the head either.
What we really need is the husband’s testimony under oath, because what he’s saying isn’t lining up and that may be the only way to get the truth of what happened out there. The only reason I’m pressed about this is because the last thing we need is a hate crime ending up being falsely labeled as such, and stoking the fires.
I’m gonna try to limit my news updates to you to once a week (if I get enough news for it to be once a week) because again I don’t want to be annoying or depressing. I’ll also just use “Joss Anon” as a moniker.
You're fine sending whatever, and whenever it's not a bother at all. If I start to get overwhelmed I just slow down some.
A neighbor of Jonathan Joss is recounting the tragic final moments of his life after an alleged altercation in San Antonio, Texas, led to the actor’s death at age 59.
“John is ranting and raving and a car pass[es] by and stops in front of John,” the neighbor, who asked to remain anonymous, exclusively told Us Weekly. “John said ‘f*** you and f*** your wife’ to the guy in the car. The shooter never got out of the car.”
The neighbor’s 11-year-old child witnessed the shooting and the resident recalled hearing three “loud” shots fired. The neighbor claimed she “saw the shooter put his car in reverse.” After hearing the shots, the neighbor said she and her husband rushed outside to help Joss and provide CPR to save his life. However, the gunshot wounds to the left side of his neck and right side of his chest appeared to be too severe, she said.
“He was dying. You could see fear in his eyes. I kept saying ‘Stay here and stay with us, John’ and I could see his eyes shifting to try to stay alive,” the neighbor said. “It was so traumatic and I can’t stop thinking about it.”
While by Joss’ side, she asked the Parks and Recreation alum’s husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, why they decided to come back to the neighborhood. (Joss and Kern de Gonzales, hadn’t been living there because Joss’ house had burned down months prior.)
According to the neighbor, Joss’ husband, who was holding his wounded partner, said they wanted to check the mail for any victim’s compensation from the fire.
According to police reports obtained by Us, authorities received 66 emergency calls for service involving Joss’ address in the past three years, including on Sunday.
The police report related to the day Joss died cited a man named Sigfredo Ceja as the suspect who allegedly killed the actor. Ceja pulled up directly behind an unnamed witness who drove Joss to the property and “watched the interaction between them in her rearview mirror,” per the report. Ceja confessed to police he shot Joss.
People reported on Wednesday, June 4, that Ceja was released on bail $200,000 “special condition bond” one day after his arrest. Ceja was ordered by a judge to full house arrest and not purchase, possess, own or use any firearms.
Days after news broke about Joss’ passing, Kern de Gonzales took to social media, claiming Joss’ death was the result of a hate crime.
“My husband Jonathan Joss and I were involved in a shooting while checking the mail at the site of our former home. That home was burned down after over two years of threats from people in the area who repeatedly told us they would set it on fire,” read a statement shared via Joss’ Facebook on Monday, June 2. “We reported these threats to law enforcement multiple times and nothing was done.”
Kern de Gonzales claimed that he and Joss were the targets of “openly homophobic” harassment. While visiting their former home, Kern de Gonzales claimed they found “the skull” of one of their dogs and its harness which caused them “severe emotional distress.”
“We began yelling and crying in response to the pain of what we saw,” the statement continued. “While we were doing this a man approached us. He started yelling violent homophobic slurs at us.” (Despite the claim, San Antonio authorities said they have found no evidence indicating Joss’s murder was related to his sexual orientation.)
Kern de Gonzales claimed that the man raised a gun and fired it while he and Joss were weaponless. He shared that Joss pushed him out of harm’s way and “saved” his life. Kern de Gonzales was by Joss’ side in his final moments and told his partner “how much he was loved.”
“To everyone who supported him, his fans, his friends, know that he valued you deeply. He saw you as family,” the statement said. “My focus now is on protecting Jonathan’s legacy and honoring the life we built together. If your concern is how someone coped with trauma or how loudly they speak when recounting injustice and being ignored by authorities then you never truly cared about my husband. Jonathan saved my life. I will carry that forward. I will protect what he built.” ________________________________________
I was expecting the waters to be getting less muddy but my expectations have been defied.
No matter what way you approach this it's a tragedy, the level of criminality is the question now.
If Joss was just yelling at him and he was still in his car the self defense claim isn't going to go over well i wouldn't think.
Whole thing is a massive bummer to begin with, all the unanswered questions just compound the tragedy.
I hope justice is served, whatever that may be.
