Made this a thread over on bluesky and figured might as well bring it over here. Not really big problems in most cases, but just, small things that I feel WotC should tweak in all current 5e classes.

Artificer: No clear weakness.

A single class that can make great a great support character, DPS character, tank, single target attacker, stealth character, etc

Obviously needs to be built spesifically for each of these, but every other class has at least one thing they can't do.

Barbarian: No force resistance

Slightly cheating because it's not inherently a problem with Barbarian, but recently more monsters have been using Force damage instead of B/P/S, and barbarians should absolutely gain resistance to it while raging at higher levels.

Bard: Full-casting

Bards are designed to be a jack of all trades, it's right there at 2nd level, but they seem to have missed the 'master of none' bit.

Full spellcasting up to 9th level, a pretty solid spell list, and spells they don't have they can take with Magical Secrets anyway, even 9th level ones.

Cleric: Turn Undead

A holdover from older editions, turn undead in my opinion just doesn't make for a good universal option on clerics.

I'd much prefer something like spirit guardians or spiritual weapon be reworked into their universal channel divinity.

Druid: Universal Wildshape

Probably controversial, but I have similar problems with wildshape that I do turn undead, it's good, but a weird universal option.

If I'm a druid getting my powers from stones, plants, or the stars, why can I also turn into a ferret? There should be a few options to pick from instead.

Fighter: Action Surge at Level 2

Action surge is such a good feature, usually it's just some extra attacks, but the fact you have the chioce is great....

That said, I think it coming online so early incentivises unintentionally incentivises multiclassing, casters dipping for 2 spells a turn mostly. They've somewhat fixed it by limiting what actions you can use it for in OneD&D, but I personally just feel it should be later level rather than limiting it.

Monk: Ki Dependancy

This doesnt' need explaining, everything for monks costs ki and it really doesn't need to, they should get resource free disengage and dash, or have ki recover faster.

I had an idea for a ki recharge of 1 min, but less points overall, so you have all points for every fight

Paladin: Oaths at 3rd level

You get your power as a paladin from a sacred oath you swear, so why do you only choose that oath at 3rd level?

That's like a warlock only deciding their patron at 3rd, or a cleric only deciding their god at 3rd (Yes 1D&D does this and I hate it).

Ranger: Spells Known

Why do rangers, the class that's meant to be about being the best prepared for the wilderness and natural areas not have prepared spells?

It just seems so obvious to me, and I've got no idea why it's not done like that already?!

Rogue: Is Pretty Good

If anything I'd say that I'm not a fan of skill floors like reliable talent, and expertise not letting you use it on other tools is a bit strange, maybe the large subclass level gap?

Yeah overall I'm a fan of rogues though, they're just solidly made.

Sorcerer: Spells Known

They tried to fix this in Tasha's with subclass spell lists, and I think that's good idea generally, but letting them swap them for (admittedly limited) options from 3 different spell lists is also weird

Just give them subclass spells they can't swap, or maybe can swap fron one list and you're good.

Warlock: EB is a Cantrip

Eldritch Blast is a good spell. Too good to be honest with multiclassing at least, it's one of the reasons PalLock is such a good combo.

EB should scale with Warlock level so be a feature not a cantrip, or cantrip scaling with warlock level like it was in that One D&D UA that they then reverted.

Wizard: Subclass Theming

Tying wizard subclasses to schools was a bad idea, and what we've gotten outside the PHB seems to be an attempt to go back on that.

It also means they don't have room to explore all of each school, I'd love a teleport or summon focused wizard but school of conjuration smashes them together weirdly

Sunoo never really tried to hide his smile whenever he saw you. It could be seeing you after a long time or just a short while, your presence seemed to make everything much better than usual, so to express his joy he wore the brightest smile, to the point his cheeks slightly hurt. His smile held so many emotions and feelings for you it somehow made you feel butterflies, the way his eyes were fixated on you only added fuel to the fire in your heart. Your passions in different fields helped him get to know you from a completely different side.

For the first few minutes of your monologue, you didn’t even realize him staring at you. His unusually silent state made you suspect something. You took a look at his expression that showed nothing but pure love and interest in every word you said, all of this topped by the smile that spread on his face.

“Why are you looking at me like that?” you asked quite oblivious.

“I love it when you’re talking so passionately about stuff,” he confessed, not even a flicker of embarrassment or sheepiness in his voice.

You couldn’t say that about yourself though. His words made you a blushing mess, and you didn’t even have the guts to cover it in any way.

“Please continue, lovely.”

Matching your outfits was one of the unavoidable parts of your relationship with Sunoo. Of course, you didn’t opose to those ideas, though the more you got serious about each other the more similar outfits he got for you. And when the content of your wardrobe almost crushed your body, you noticed half of the matching pieces are in fact pajamas that you saw for the first time in your life. Thinking about it for a while you wandered if something has slipped through the cracks of your memory, but no matter how hard you tried to recall getting those you failed miserably, leaving no other suspects than your lovely boyfriend.

“Sun?” you called, eyes still fixed on the pile of clothes.

Hearing his coming footsteps you turned around and saw his form, an innocent and questioning look painting his face. That expression disappeared though, as soon as he saw the star of the show.

“What are those?” you asked softly, smile creeping on your face from the look on his face.

He scratched the back of his neck, still scanning the amount of big onesies and two-pieces he had bought throughout your relationship.

“I didn’t realize we had this many already,” he said sheepishly.

“Gosh, it’s so many we could sleep in different ones for a few weeks!” you exclaimed after estimating the enormous amount of pajamas.

“You’re totally right. We should put that to good use!”

Having an older sister Sunoo not only had his hair get done by her, but he also had a great oppourtunity to learn how to braid and do other hairstyles. Now you had your personal hairstyllist just for yourself. He often asked you if you have a minute for him to try out a hairdo tutorial he saw. Him braiding your hair every night before jumping into soft bedsheets was a cherry on top of your day. His fingers would brush through your locks ever so gently, making an effort to not hurt your scalp and let a single hair strand fall off your head.

You sat with your legs crossed on your bed as Sunoo kneeled behind you so that he had a clear view of your head.

“Sun, it doesn’t have to be so precise, it’s gonna be ruined by the morning,” you said when you felt how neatly he braided your strands.

“No, Y/nie, it has to be done perfectly for my perfect partner,” he spoke and planted a sweet kiss on the crown of your head.

As soon as he finished tying your hair you tilted your head back to face him. Gently cupping your cheeks he leaned in and kissed first your forehead, nose, and then finally lips.

Starting a long conversation with Sunoo didn’t belong to hard tasks, as he found it easy to talk about anything. Nothing was a taboo topic for him, making him the perfect partner to talk about various topics. What was hard though, was stopping him from continuing talking. Not that you complained though, you loved how excited he looked whenever he spoke with passion. Problems started when you started to hear birds chirping, after what was supposed to be an evening chat before sleep.

You listened to Sunoo’s voice as it resounded in your bedroom, now listening his point of view. When he stopped to finally take a sip of water and the room fell silent, the sound of bird’s song was heard from outside your windows. You looked at each other in shock, eyes wide from the unexpected sound.

“We didn’t talk for that long, did we?” he started doubting his ears.

You reached your hand to the nightstand, where your phone was recharging. Unlocking it you showed him the clock that showed glorious 4:30 in the morning.

“I guess we did.” You smiled and watched as he did the same. “Good thing it’s Saturday, otherwise both of us would be screwed at work,” you laughed and a sudden wave of sleepiness overwhelmed your eyelids.

“I didn’t even realize we talked for that long,” he confessed. “But I guess we should sleep now.” He yawned as he laid next to you, looking directly into your eyes.

Sunoo’s memory seemed to be endless, as he remembered all the small details like your usual order, shoe and ring size, hated cereal, and even the slightest icks. Anything you told him he somehow managed to remember, what sometimes brought confusion, since you didn’t recall telling him about certain things. He would then continue your whole story just to prove not only that you already told him about it, but to make you feel listened to.

“And then when she found out it was me who got it right…”

“She didn’t want to give you bonus points for your test,” Sunoo finished what you were saying about your history teacher.

You looked at him confused and then it hit you.

“I had already told you that, right?” you pursed your lips together.

“Yeah you did,” he smiled. “But you also then told me you had a similar situation with your maths teacher. You were supposed to tell me that but we had no time,” he reminded you.

He watched as your face lit up when you remembered the unfinished story and started your talk again.

Thinking of it as a duty to put a smile on your face with his actions and just finding joy in bringing you happiness, giving you flowers seemed like a perfect option for Sunoo. Whenever the ones he bought you previously finished blossoming he had a sign it was time to buy another bouqet. He never scrimped on them so everytime you had to put them in the biggest vase you had.

“Hi lovely, I’m back!” you heard your boyfriend’s voice along with your front door closing.

You stood up from the couch to give him a kiss and spoke: “I was about to call you. what took you so long?” you didn’t need any answer from him, as you noticed a fresh bouqet of alstroemerias, one of your favorite flowers.

“Sun…” You took flowers from him and looked at them dearly. “I should’ve known better,” you said remembering that you had to throw out the last bouquet yesterday since almost every petal fell off.

“Most beautiful flowers for the most beautiful person I know,” he said and raised your head by the chin and slowly kissed your lips.

hi i made up yet another impractical number system/nomenclature for toki pona!!

its base six or seximal, using the digits wan (1), tu (2), san (3), po (4) and luka (5) [as used in jan Usawi's song likujo]

now a lot of number systems use suffixes to denote the position of a given digit (see four = 4 , four-ty = 40, four-hundred = 400). personally i like single syllable suffixes so i could just come up with a bunch of sounds BUT. luckily there already is a really fun tp word with a lot of fairly distinct syllables in it: kijetesantakalu!

so we just add one syllable of kijetesantakalu after every digit of a number? yes! but theres once again a but! we need to either go through the word kinda in reverse order or [much more fun option!]

reverse the order of the digits! (i struggle to explain why i think this is nessecary soo.. trust me bro?). my native language german already does this (at least for double digit numbers) so thats proof enough this makes sense. okay thats a lot of abstract rambling so heres some examples:

How Toriyama/Toyotaro salvaged "End of Z"

Let me start this post with a personal confession that may or may not be unpopular: I have very little interest in Dragon Ball DAIMA. I have slightly more than I used to after Akira Toriyama's death since I am naturally curious to see what the last Dragon Ball related material he ever produced is like, but otherwise it still looks like just a different take on Dragon Ball GT, my least favorite Dragon Ball series, except that more characters than just Goku turn young and it's the Demon Realm that's being explored instead of space. It also doesn't help that the head writer, Yuko Kakihara, makes me nervous - she's done fine work as an episodic script writer on anime such as Fresh Pretty Cure, My Bride is a Mermaid, and Pokémon Journeys, and she was fantastic as the head writer of IRODUKU: The World in Color. But in terms of shows closer to what Dragon Ball DAIMA seems like, she was head writer on that god-awful Stitch anime that Disney stupidly allowed to be made. Worse still, she was the writer of Digimon Adventure Tri. So you can understand why I have reservations.

Point is, I consider Dragon Ball DAIMA to be a sideshow, regardless of what its merits may end up being. For me personally, it's the manga/anime trilogy of Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Super that really counts the most. And as tragic as the circumstances behind the end of Toriyama's involvement on the latter are, I am highly impressed what he and his mangaka protégée Toyotaro were able to accomplish. With three major steps, they have substantially retconned the notoriously underwhelming ending of the original manga series and DBZ anime, known as "End of Z" among fans, in a way that makes a satisfying closure.

The first step was way back in Dragon Ball Online. Toriyama was involved back then in canonically mapping out the future of the Dragon Ball world, long after Goku, his friends and his family have passed away. And a major part of that was how Gohan, Goten, Trunks and Pan affected that world for the better in their adult lives. Gohan in particular has a masterful end to his long struggle between being a fighter and being a scholar by becoming a scholar on ki fighting techniques, publishing a study that makes it widely possible for humans around the world to master ki control and gain flight and energy blasts. It's a perfect outcome for him.

The second step was through Toriyama's involvement in the new movies and Super series. End of Z now cannot happen the way it was presented in the original manga and anime. There are way too many discrepancies, from character appearances, the lack of certain characters who it would make little sense not to be there, and details like "none of Goku's friends saw him for 5 years before then" which have now been completely contradicted. Obviously the 28th Budokai where Goku meets Uub and takes him under his wing for training is still canon, but that event is now free to transpire in a far more plausible and satisfactory way than the famously rushed, haphazard and OOC way in which it was depicted before.

The third and final step was the last collaboration between Toriyama and Toyotaro in the Super manga. The final three chapters they worked on together were an epilogue to the story of the Super Hero film, actually tying its plot together with the side plot featuring Goku and Vegeta on Beerus' planet. Perhaps responding to prevalent criticisms, the movie had already made a major point of showing how the world can still be successfully defended by the Z Fighters even without Goku and Vegeta being there. And in these three chapters, the point is carried even further by having Goku test what the new generation is capable of, a theme that's even reflected in the final chapter's title, "Passing On To The Future". This completely recontextualizes End of Z. Originally made as a laughable attempt to salvage the "Goku passing the torch" direction with Uub in place of Gohan after Toriyama botched it so badly with him, now it makes Uub only the latest in a large field of fighters that includes Gohan. Now it's Gohan, Goten, Trunks, Pan, even Broly of all people, who are being gathered as Earth's next line of defense once Goku and Vegeta finally expire. Uub will join that group. (Oh, and being Namekian, both Piccolo and Dende will still be around to assist, of course.)

So while the narrative of Dragon Ball may have peaked with the Cell Saga, now the Majin Buu Saga -> Battle of Gods Saga -> Resurrection F Saga -> Universe 6 Saga -> Future Trunks / Goku Black Saga -> Universe Survival Saga -> Broly Saga -> Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga -> Granolah the Survivor Saga -> Super Hero Saga -> End of Z together create a worthier follow-up than just the Majin Buu Saga -> End of Z was back in the day. Certainly not perfect, even when leaving the loose ends out of it (so Freeza's just gonna stay loose out there with a new ultimate form?), but feeling much closer to a fully realized ending.

Thank you, Toriyama. You made it up as you went along right to the very end, but as usual, your remarkable creative talent managed to make it all fit together. You are deeply missed.

He gave you so many hints of loving you, he gave you affection you needed. you never realized nor love him back, he gave you all the love you deserve but instead you loved a peasant who isn’t worthy of your love? pathetic. You and N-ki don’t really have the best term with each other. Ni-ki would bully you every time & day  at school, well for Ni-ki, he only does this to get your attention, He just loves that reaction when he gets closer to you, you get scared immediately, it made him proud of himself, He knows that he has power over you to the point you would do anything so he wouldn’t hurt you, then at lunch when he was searching for you, he happens to see you kissing a guy or should he say your lover. That person being His no.1 enemy. How could you date his enemy when he was right here. waiting for you to love him as much as he loves you. Why him?! what does he have that Ni-ki doesn't?! no. Ni-ki doesn't believe this. You were forced, Why else would you date a guy that he hates with all his guts. He needs to protect you from that guy, he definitely forced you to date him. Ni-ki walks away from the scene and goes into an empty classroom to finally plan on how to kidnap you and make you fall in love with him. Oh how Ni-ki can’t wait to spend the rest of his life with you, Having a family with you. He can't wait to experience that! All he needs to worry about is your pathetic lover.

I in fact have an AU where Azula kills Zuko in the Agni Kai: [Link]. Fair warning, the person who prompted me for that one did not like how I filled the prompt, and I had to ban them after they got nasty about it. Also The first fill in this AU was one of the first five headcanon prompts I ever answered, so I didn't have my feet under me yet, and at the risk of sounding pretentious, my philosophy of five headcanons has changed. Oh, and in this scenario, Zuko was obviously dead, and Katara, in the subsequent fight, kills Azula.

1. A fourteen year old killing another fourteen year old doesn't do great things for the kid who did the killing. It doesn't matter that the kids she had killed had just killed her friend, and was going to kill her. It is still horrible. It still leaves Katara, when there is no one around to watch, shaking with it. When she closes her eyes, she sees Azula's face as she suffocates, trapped inside the ice. She hears Zuko's ragged scream, then his moans, then his whimpers, then his silence. And maybe, when she's feeling most self-pitying, she wonders if maybe how understanding Aang is being about it, doesn't make it worse.

2. Aang didn't kill Ozai. He was able to spare him as Katara didn't spare Azula. And he is so understanding about it, so sympathetic. She couldn't take away Azula's bending. She had no choice. It's horrible, and he's sorry she had to do that. But Katara... She knows there was a moment there, when she could have chained Azula. She had her trapped in ice. She could have chained her. But instead, she let her die. She knows this, but she can't tell Aang. She doesn't know which would be worse, if he rejected her, or if he didn't believe her, that she was misremembering, or her mind was playing tricks on her in her horror. But she knows what she did.

3. The one person who does understand, who Katara can go to, who gets it, is her dad. Hakoda knows what it means to go off to war, to take lives, to make devastating choices. And it's into the company of her father and the Southern Water Tribe warriors that Katara retreats, and finds solace, and maybe, the beginnings of self acceptance.

4. Let's take a moment to think about Mai. Barely a month before, Mai put her life on the line to stop Azula from killing Zuko. She went to prison for it. Now she is out of prison, and Zuko is dead anyway. Azula kied him anyway. And Azula is dead too. What good was any of it? What worth did it have? How is she supposed to go forward after this? And the rest of the world is moving on. The war is over, Iroh is on the throne, and people are happy. (How dare they be happy). The world is shifting around her, and she is stuck. No one is stuck on the same page with her, not even Ty Lee. It's different for Ty Lee. Mai stood up to Azula for Zuko, and he's dead. Ty Lee stood up to Azula for Mai, and Mai still alive. Zuko threw his life away after she saved him, and for what? And the worst part is, he didn't throw his life away. He made a difference. The world is changing around her because of the cause he fought for. But it wasn't the cause she ever fought for, and she doesn't know how to take that.

5. Iroh has now lost two sons in the same war, on two different sides. He sent each of them out to fight, for what he believed was right, and each time, he lived, and they did not. The first time he lost a son, he fell apart. He dragged himself home, and into the quiet darkness of his own rooms at the palace. He now understands that he was like a butterfly-wasp in its cocoon, and he would reemerge entirely changed, but back then all he wanted was to die, to not need to continue on. He was forced in that time, to reconsider everything heband his son had fought for, and to conclude it was less than worthless. He can't do that now. What Zuko died for was not worthless. And he has to be firelord, he has to honor the sacrifice his nephew made. He can't sink down into the depths of his own misery. He has work to do. He has to rule. He has to figure out what to do about the succession. He has to move forward. He hates it so much.

Notes: This guard is about to catch the party and let the camp know they're being infiltrated and Jabari goes HAM to stop that from happening. "Not even going to attempt non-lethal damage" There's a minimum of 32 damage before the damage dice are rolled. That man dies outright before he hits the ground.

Propaganda: (anonymous) Such a funny culmination of all the careful plotting, sneaking, nonlethal damage and tying up of guards, in this encounter Jabari finally rolls first initiative and absolutely WASTES this poor guard, burning three ki points completely unnecessarily. Perfect execution of the payoff from Lou, AND the whole situation and framework of this episode was improvised masterfully by Murph.

Episode: Mavrus Chronicles 7: Carl

Notes: "We're not confused, we're elite". Mavrus gets shoved into a shark pit 3 times. They improv an emo song. The wizard enemy layers the fight so well and all the glyphs are dope, plus the party eventually uses them to their advantage. Dave and Tread go down so fast, Mac has one of his heals counterspelled. Mavrus and then Mac take the spell tick and use it to their advantage, leaving Rennifer with no spells. Tread and Mavrus end up teleported into the ocean.
