Book Chat: Reign of a King
Kingdom Duet (Book 1) by Rina Kent
Source: Google Images
Nothing is fair in war.
Jonathan King is every bit his last name.
Powerful.
Untouchable.
Corrupted.
He’s also my dead sister’s husband and way older than me.
When I first met him as a clueless child, I thought he was a god.
Now, I have to confront that god to protect my business from his ruthless grip.
Little did I know that declaring a war on the king will cost me everything.
When Jonathan covets something, he doesn’t only win, he conquers.
Now, he has his sights on me.
He wants to consume not only my body, but also my heart and my soul.
I fight, but there’s no escaping the king in his kingdom…

Again, Did We Need Two Books?
Before going into Reign of a King, I already expected to dislike this book. There's just something about the Kings that do not entice me as much as other Kent characters (hoping that only relates to the older generation). When I read Levi's story, I thought that was a good start to the Royal Elite series. Then I came to Aiden's story and boy did I have the worst ride ever. I did not like Aiden and Elsa's story at all, could not understand why they needed three books to get the storytelling done. And that's why I was skeptical about Jonathan's story. Throughout the entire Royal Elite series, every time Jonathan made an appearance, someone's bound to comment just how similar Aiden was to Jonathan, he's literally Jonathan's mini-me. Now tell me how was I going to go into Jonathan's story with open arms when I know I am entering Aiden's older-me world?
On a slightly brighter side, I am a teeny tiny bit surprised I did not hate Reign of a King as much as I expected to. Jonathan's really not as horrible as Aiden. Something about the son that I hate was his inability to understand "no". There is still resemblance between father and son in regards to how they react to objections but Jonathan's approach is more mature in this dark romance world and for that, I did not hate him as much. I guess it helped that I like Aurora's retorts. The banter was much better considering it was between one almost seasoned adult and one very seasoned adult, it just felt more mature.
However, as refreshing as these adult characters were, the plot plummeted all the way to the ground. I understand Kent wanted a sense of mystery with the Kingdom Duet duology but it just wasn't written well at all. I have not started on the next book but I can already tell you, Jonathan and Aurora's story did not need two books. This first book was so unnecessarily dragged out and trust me, if you cut much of the smut out, the plot could have easily been incorporated with the next book to have just one book in total.
I'll be honest here, I never read books for smut, if they are there, then they are there. Some books, you know are written with smut as the focal point, and others, its just a small driving factor for the plot. With the way Kent planned out this world of hers, with or without smut, the stories would still receive the same reaction. What can I say? After going through a handful of her books in a short period of time, I am just so bored with the smut she wrote.
Rating: ★★☆☆☆

Scovillia Headmaster x Parfaedian Reader hcs
Summary: You are a teacher who works at Parfaedia Institute, teaching Berry Magic. You met the Scovillia Headmaster during one of the Triple Cone Cup events. The two of you are now in an established relationship, although neither of you would tell anyone…who knows what kind of drama both of your students will have, hm?
TW: Nothing but fluff ❤️
To put it simply, he’s fallen head over heels for you. Sure, it wasn’t like he planned to do so, but c’mon, just how could he be a sore loser during the Triple Cone Cup while you’re there cheering everyone on? He’s honestly surprised that you aren’t a smartass or stuck-up like the other schools when they win. It’s refreshing, honestly.
I headcanon that everyone in Scovillia has a naturally warm body temperature, and this guy uses it to his advantage any time you’re with him.
So you can definitely expect big and warm bear hugs from behind while you’re in his home. (AKA, his office because he lives at the school)
And he does take off the mask around you. At least, only sometimes. It’s usually when he’s behind you, kissing your neck and holding you close while the two of you talk about what you guys did.
He does try to lower the loud guitar playing whenever you sleep over, but you probably don’t mind. In fact, you actually like it when he wakes you up like that.
The Headmaster tends to call you by a lot of nicknames, most likely because he doesn’t want anyone to know that he’s dating you, a teacher from a rival school.
And he likes holding your hand a lot. Like a cold hands x warm hands situation.
You also take him to Parfaedia every once in a while, just to see what it’s like. However, he complains a little about how it’s so…bland and not spicy or hot. But he’s probably not used to going around places without spice…so it’s your job to make him comfy <3
