A couple weeks ago I was thinking about how the KimChay argument after the club was parallel to Kinn and Porsche's situation in E5 and therefore, if there had ever been a S2, KimChay should have gotten their own version of the forest episode.

The resulting fic is here; rambling about why I wrote it this way under the cut.

The Nature of the Problem

My starting point with this whole thing is that from a writerly POV, E6 is a problem-solving episode. The characters have been backed into a corner; they need a dramatic change.

For K/P, the episode is about redressing the power imbalance and control issues. The first part highlights Kinn's need to project power due to his position in the family. We saw in E5 how badly that position conflicts with his ability to be in a relationship with Porsche. The challenges they face and the conversations they have are shaped to provide a path to fixing that dynamic, giving space for their genuine attraction to one another to grow into a real connection. That path culminates in Kinn nulling their boss/employee relationship and giving up control (as symbolized by the handcuff), allowing them to start over as lovers.

If I was going to arrogate to myself the task of putting that same idea through a KimChay filter, what was the central problem to address? Kim does have some control issues, but in a very different way than Kinn does. Kim doesn't have a position of power, doesn't have a personal army, doesn't even carry a gun in daily life as far as we know. What he does have is an apparently long-standing habit (per that scene with Khun) of spying on his own family.

I keep coming back to the scene in Korn's office. There is nothing else in the season like it. Kinn has moments of disagreement with Korn but never displays anything other than implicit trust in his motives. Khun can stake out an opposite position to their father in family discussions (like with the one about Tawan), but there's no suggestion of a poor relationship between the two of them.

By sharp contrast, one of the very few Kim-centric scenes we got was completely devoted to showing us how he approaches his dad: fabricate an excuse for being there, search the room, ask a few lightly probing questions, get the fuck out. (I am legit obsessed with Kim's body language in this scene.) The icing on the dramatic cake being that the distrust goes both ways. Korn knows--or at least suspects--that Kim was there for some reason other than filial affection. We'll never know why.

(I still think a likely explanation is that Kim is a good enough observer to have picked up on some of Korn's manipulation techniques at work over the years, and that's why "get out of the house" was such a priority. This theory informs most of my Kim-related stories.)

That's a long-winded way to say that I think the fundamental problem with the KimChay dynamic is Kim's inability to trust people. He's a very isolated character; his introductory scene implies that this is the price of the life he wanted, that he knows it.

However. Kim wants to be with Chay. That will lead to him spending all that time with Chay, as long as the truth is comfortably far off, and finally to that lunge at the studio. As soon as reality hits, though, when it looks like the relationship is going to demand something beyond a surface connection, Kim doesn't merely run from it but tries to deny even to himself that this was something he wanted in the first place--and then regrets that, because the theme of the entire show is that connections with other people are the thing that will get you through life.

Parallels & Divergence

Kinn can't keep his power over Porsche and also have a relationship with him. Kim can't keep his defensive isolation and also connect with Chay. These are very different challenges.

What did that mean for the fic? The central conceit of removing the characters from their usual landscape, a change of context that requires cooperation and disrupts bad habits, holds up fine with both pairs. The symbolic washing away of the past, likewise. They all need a way to remember that they like each other to begin with, and genuine communication.

The handcuff thing was not relevant to KimChay, though. Kim does not need to learn how to let go of what he loves, but the opposite (the point of a B-plot is to either echo or contrast with the main plot). Rock-paper-scissors likewise is not useful to this couple. It's an equalizing game, one where Kinn's advantages of power, status, and money can't affect the outcome, but that's not a problem for Kim. Nor is it an issue of physical reliability. They needed something information-based, a way for him to inch into the space of trusting Chay with who he is.

Chay

Kim is not the only person in this story. Chay also has things to learn at this point--mainly that he can't chase Kim into a relationship. Kim is the cat in this pair (possibly the cheetah with anxiety who needs a companion dog). Chay has to figure out how to metaphorically or maybe literally just exist quietly near Kim until he relaxes, and not to assume that they're on the same page always, because Kim's entire life has been not normal. I don't think it's far-fetched for Chay to realize this eventually. Chay can hold the door open, but Kim has to walk through it on his own.

(I initially started the fic with Chay's POV and then decided I was taking the easy way out with that. Kim's opacity, the little we can even deduce about him from canon let alone actually know, is part of what makes him interesting to me, but is also a challenge for me to write. We don't know much about Chay either, but he's a lot more open and straightforward.)

The Ending

For K/P, the fight at the end of E6 not only precipitates the main plot in the back half of the season, but serves as a critical relaunch point for the K/P relationship. It closely reprises the scene of their first meeting, with one big difference: Porsche knows who Kinn is now, the good and the bad. There's no external pressure on his decision. He knows what he's getting into by coming back, and he chooses to do so. I wanted to use that thematic parallel for KimChay in this rather than echo the episode with an action scene. The initial context for their meeting was the open house, Chay's encyclopedic knowledge of the public side of Kim, and asking for tutoring.

(Also, fighting side by side is not a part of the K/C dynamic the way it is for K/P, who from their introduction straight through to the bullet-time tango are clearly a Battle Couple. KimChay started off their relationship with a duet. And anyway, I wrote two other stories where Kim takes a bullet for Chay.)

I did start writing a kind of 6.5-esque coda scene, but it was mostly "Kim tries to process trauma with an inadequate toolkit" and was depressing me, so I haven't finished it.

How I feel about this character

i am absolutely insane feral over him and everyone knows it. i do not have the capacity to be remotely embarrassed about this. he is SO GOOD because despite being a side character, he contains so many layers!! there's so much to explore with him and so many different directions fans can take him. he's pathetic and isolated and so desperate for connection but so... avoidant. he seems to think of himself as this dangerous villain, but then the extent of his manipulations with the kid he tells himself he's manipulating is like. asking him about his brother and whether he's ever been in love. he's so tender with chay and can't stay away or remain stoic in front of him but he still pushes chay (and everyone else) away. he *hates* his father and his own father seems wary of him, but he's also out here being a celebrity and making music and music videos that feature cats. he touches chay's hair and kisses his cheek like these are the first acts of affection he's ever initiated. he reacts to chay's flirtations and hugs like they're the first displays of affection he's ever received. he looks like he's having a panic attack when chay sings a love song to him in the studio. he kills six men and then sends chay a video of his own love song. he's so !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All the people I ship romantically with this character

so like, *romantically* – truly romantically, really only chay and occasionally porsche. if we aren't talking strictly romantic love, then uh. pretty much everyone. i need to put this boy into so many toxic sexual & codependent relationships. this is my favorite pastime. the best options here are chan and big, but i'll go all out with the dead dove incestry that i uh. am not brave enough to share those thoughts here.

My non-romantic OTP for this character

the sibling relationships are so important to me. especially kim and kinn. they're so !!!!!! agh. also porschekim golden retriever and stray cat bestfriendism

My unpopular opinion about this character

if he were really innately so "dark" he wouldn't have left the family. him separating himself from the mafia and that identity are proof to me that even though he is capable of viciousness, violence and manipulation, that is not the life he wants for himself. he may be "the most dangerous theerapanyakun" but that means fairly little when what he actually seems to be spending his time on is being an idol/singer-songwriter and investigating his own father

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

that he would have gotten some – any – kind of resolution. i know they were originally gearing up for season 2 where that likely would have happened, i mean even for the main characters the ending of the show didn't feel like a proper ending. but his ending makes me especially sad. the investigation he spent the whole show pursuing just kinda fizzled out into nothing, and his attempts to reconcile with chay were not reciprocated on screen. Kim ends the show still isolated from his family, isolated from chay, and with nothing to show for any of it. it's devastating. it makes me feel like destroying something (hence all the fics)

headcanons behind fic: brother texting habits referenced in long & short

Chay holds up his phone sheepishly. “Also, your brother texted me. We’re invited to dinner.” Kim’s smile drops. He doesn’t need to ask which brother. “Did he type that out, or just send an emoji with a question mark?”

ngl, had i realized how much i'd expand this series, this is actually a scene i'd cut or at least heavily rework. it's the weakest scene of the story and its execution has only felt more clunky as time passes. hindsight! that said, i don't regret the scene either because the headcanons behind the premise of that scene are very near and dear to my heart, namely the texting rituals of Khun, Kinn, and Kim :D

the boys have a system to their texting. it's not anything as concrete as a code, that'd be far too dangerous and anxiety inducing. their system, naturally, revolves primarily around giving hints to Korn's mood without outright saying anything:

firstly, all brother invites to things go through Khun, because Khun's invites will only ever be invites and Kim's 'no's will only ever be 'no's.

anytime Korn demands Khun or Kinn (usually Kinn) drag Kim to a family thing for him go through Kinn, and 'Kinn's requests are always phrased as a question Kim can refuse. Kim once tells Kinn he'll show up if Kinn orders him to (because he doesn't actually want to get Kinn into trouble if Korn's being esp insistent), and Kinn smiles and tells him "thank you" and never ever once orders Kim join them, because Kim asked not to be involved in the family business and Kinn will take on any burden to keep Kim free of it.

Kinn passes along how insistent Korn's being through the overall tone and vibe of his messages, usually indicated by how much of it he types out. requests Kim join official functions sound like a formal invitation printed on a card, requests Kim indulge Korn playing family are much closer to Kinn's standard texting style;

because, and this is a silly headcanon i will have forever, Kinn fucking loves emojis. you know his whole "this could've been an email" vibe when he shoots that guy in the head ep1? same vibes except much cuter. Kinn thinks emojis are adorable and efficiency perfected. why send "thank you" when the 👍 emoji is right there? a picture's worth a thousand words and 🫂 is a thousand warm ones. he could send "wanna check out that new coffee shop by the studio next tuesday for brunch? their menu is 60% sprinkles so i'm sure you'll love it" but ☕🧋🎙️❔👑2️⃣🗓️🕦🍬👉💕💕‼️ is so much quicker. the only reason why Kinn's texts aren't 87% cute stickers is because he hasn't yet realized they come preprogrammed in his phone.

("do you think he speaks in hieroglyphics because he's secretly ancient?" Kim asks one day.

"how old does it make you to understand him then?" Khun snarks back.)

some bonus thoughts: Khun's a spam texter of the highest order. every one text is sent across 3.5 texts minimum. Kinn only ever sends one (1) text. if Kinn's replying to multiple messages in one go, he separates his responses in indv bullet points (if he's feeling petty towards Khun, he responds to every one of Khun's messages individually).

(Kinn's multiple messages to Chay in long & short are absolutely because he's watching Kim's live. for all Kim's snooping, he has somehow missed that Kinn has every alert and then some set for Wik news and while he can't make every live, he plans his breaks around them and even moved a meeting once.)

also, while Kinn pretends he's threatening/blackmailing with these baby Kim pics, this is 100% him taking advantage of the situation to gush about cute baby brother with a fellow Kim AppreciatorTM. Kinn has the cutest little brother, and he's gotta keep up with news of baby brother's current shenanigans somehow 😤👏 Khun is guilty of similar crimes ofc.

This is gonna sound random as hell and maybe someone already brought it up, but are we able to verify that Kim is the only member of the Theerapanyakul family that we never see eat or drink anything?

Like, we've seen Kinn eat and drink, we've seen Tankhun drink, we've seen Korn eat soup and drink alcohol. We've seen Gun share a meal with his men; Macau was in that scene, so I'll count it. And ofc, Vegas' whole schtick with food is a big theme in his character arc.

But Kim? We've seen him provide food (first studio scene) and be served food (the morning after confession), but have we ever seen him actually consume the food?? Did we actually see him slurp the noodles Chay got for the both of them?? Like literally, the few times we see food as part of the scene for him, Chay is involved one way or another.

Something something about how Chay sustains him in many different ways, mayhaps?

There's a whole new world to be explored as to what Kim likes to eat, I think~

I feel like he'd be a picky eater, lol! He doesn't like foods that are too oily, but he'd probably tolerate takeout food once in awhile due to his busy schedule. He'd prefer grilled food (chicken, pork, fish, squid, etc etc.) over deep fried food, most definitely! He probably likes dishes that are simple, filling, and healthy; I could totally see him eating a serving or two of rice, and his only side is like steamed bokchoy and eggplant that's been simmered in a bit of soy sauce and oyster sauce, yknow?

Idek, maybe he has a peanut allergy.

“Your teeth are going to rot at this rate, p’Kim," Chay says, eyeing Kim’s drink critically as they sit down at a table in the back corner of the tea shop. 

“I’ve got a good dental plan,” Kim says, taking a sip. “And it’s worth the risk.” 

Chay perks up, leaning forward in his chair eagerly. “You like the classic flavour then?” 

Kim hums, looking down at his drink and using the straw to mix the little pearls around the bottom of the cup. “The tapioca pearls are a little weird, but the flavour of the tea is nice.”

Chay beams at him.

“I don’t really know what to do with myself. I still love music, but I’m not sure it’s something I want to pursue as a career after all. I wanted to be what your music was to me and help people and be there for them when they need it most... but I'm not sure being a musician is how I want to achieve that goal.” 

Kim shifts uncomfortably in his seat at the piano, Chay’s guitar is abandoned to the side, long forgotten in the wake of their conversation. Kim doesn’t regret asking Chay about his gap year, but he wishes he didn’t feel so responsible for causing Chay to drop his university interview. Chay had just finished telling him about how Kim’s rejection was only one of several reasons he did so, but he still feels that responsibility like a sharp knife to his chest. He’s also unsure if Chay is just downplaying his involvement in light of their rekindled not-relationship. 

“Do you think you will go back next year?” He asks hesitantly.

“Yeah,” Chay replies. “I want to, but I need to figure out everything else first. Music was a pipe dream to a future with hia that helped get us through some tough times, but it’s not a realistic future. Not for me anyway.”

Kim looks down at his hands. 

“But.. I still want to keep making music, p’Kim. I like making music with you and coming here to jam regularly."

Kim looks up and makes eye contact with Chay's warm expression for a moment before looking away, unsure what to say. A light smile tugging at his lips and a warm feeling in his chest.

November 21st, 8:08pm

Kim has been strumming around on his guitar for hours now, feeling uninspired but with an unquenchable urge to create. His cat, Jimbo, has been sleeping on the sofa, only waking breifly every now and then to groom.

He thinks of his brothers. 

Khun and his melodrama that at times feels more like a front than genuine feeling. Khun’s been messaging him recently with requests to come visit and watch a new series that dropped. Apparently it’s a BL that he just “has to watch, Kim. It’s about the mafia! It looks very cool and romantic!” 

He should make time for him next week.

He thinks of Kinn, his desperate need to please their pa clouding his view forward. Kinn would resent him for saying it, so he doesn’t, but sometimes he thinks Kinn stands as more of a pawn to their father than he even realises. His agency a part of a larger, more complicated plan. Porsche is also part of that plan, though Kim isn't sure the romance had been anticipated.

Kim does his best to keep Kinn safe from a distance, the details of Kinn’s month’s schedule in a short, neat stack on his desk across the room. 

He thinks of Chay and their developing not-relationship. He doesn’t know what to think of some of their interactions lately, but Kim has been feeling that simmering hope boil within him with each message, each not-date, each little smile… 

He looks down at his note book, chords written down messily. They sound nice, but they feel a little hollow and unexciting.

Kim has an idea. 

He hesitates a little, but then hits record on his voice recorder app, plays his notebook chords, and sends them to Chay before he can psyche himself out of it. 

He loves making and talking music with Chay, why should he limit sharing that to their studio sessions? Chay has a habit of saying just the right thing that sparks Kim’s creative flow, and sometimes just talking to Chay gets him out of his head.

Kim smiles down at his phone softly. God.

November 22nd, 7:30pm

"Hey" Kim says into the his phone. He has it wedged between his cheek and his sholder while he uses both hands to chob vegetables.

"Hi!" Chay's chipper voice comes through the speaker, "what are you up to, p'Kim?"

He slides the chopped carrots into a small bowl, moving on to the red capsicum. "I'm cooking dinner. Pad Phak."

"P'Kim, you cook?" Chay sounds surprised which... okay fair. Kim is a child of wealth and living in the very building Kim grew up in, Chay has seen first hand how meal times tend to work.

"Mmm. I like it, it's fun."

"Oh my God" Chay breathes quietly into the mic. Kim isn't sure what to make of that. He thinks it's a good thing... Chay sounded almost awed. Does Chay like it that Kim can cook?

He suddenly feels a little proud of himself, and maybe slightly pompous. "I'll cook for you sometime," he says, "I make a really good pad kra pao."

"Yes!" Chay says excitedly, causing Kim to jump. He continues in a softer tone "I'd love that, p'Kim."

I really love the idea that amidst all the fuck nasty KinnPorsche action, Kim and Chay are... surprisingly chaste? Kim kisses him on the cheek that one time, and they fall asleep on the couch, fully clothed and half hanging off of it, and that's as far as things go for months.

They continue their weekly guitar lessons. They don't have to pretend they're not looking anymore, but it's still bashful and sweet, stealing glances at each other, blushing when their hands brush, reminding themselves to focus.

Chay still cooks for Kim, except now he lets Kim help. Kim pretends he's bad at it because it makes Chay giggle and correct him and it's the gentlest reprimand he's ever received. (He's 22 and has been living alone for years, he can cook perfectly fine, but Chay likes to feel like he's teaching Kim something, too)

Kim brings Chay to music shows that he thinks he'll like, and sometimes Chay will study at the studio while he records, and they go for walks and coffee dates.

Porsche gives Kim a hard time - about breaking Chay's heart, about the age gap, threatens to castrate him if he so much as looks at Chay the wrong way - and Chay is mortified, but Kim is a perfect gentleman. His eyes don't stray, his hands don't wander, and he never pushes. Sometimes Chay wishes he would, but wanting something and experiencing it are too different things. He's eventually grateful for the slowburn romance.

Obviously they sleep together eventually. But until then, the slow pace is right for them. It gives Chay a chance to shed his star struck obsession, willing to do anything if it means keeping his idol's attention, and start to feel out his own boundaries. It gives Kim a chance to settle into their relationship and know that Kim wants him, not WIK.

Their brothers also roast them to hell and back for taking it so slow, but Kinn and Porsche are proud, too. They can see how happy and stupidly in love they are, holding hands and stealing cheek kisses when no one is looking, and it makes them feel like yeah, everything is going to be okay. Despite everything that's happened in their lives, Kim and Chay aren't broken, and maybe that means Kinn and Porsche did something right, and maybe everything can be okay.

It had started with little things.

Kim always replied to Porchay's messages almost immediately when he wasn't in the studio or in meetings.

He was trying to communicate his feelings better, even if he was still struggling a bit, but it was progress and Porchay was proud of Kim.

He even tried to get on well with Porsche, which was a far more difficult task than expressing his feelings to Porchay.

Of course, Porchay had told his brother about his heartbreak and therefore also about Kim, and it had taken his pleading as well as Kinn's appeasement and persuasion to stop Porsche from killing Kim right then and there.

The fact that the two of them only fought with glances when they met was really a big improvement in their relationship.

But what Porchay only noticed after a few months of dating was that Kim adapted himself and his apartment to Porchay's habits and preferences.

On weekdays when Porchay had classes and Kim's schedule allowed, Kim got up with him, they had breakfast and he would drive him.

Porchay knew that Kim often worked late the night before on new songs and then went back to sleep for a few hours as soon as he got back.

Porchay's clothes were also hanging in Kim's closet, his notes and books were spread out on the coffee table and it was amazing that Kim lived with this without protest, because the rest of the apartment was always almost meticulously clean and tidy.

But it was a carton of ice cream that really made Porchay pause.

Kim didn't eat ice cream, in fact he hardly ever ate sweets, and yet there was a carton of Porchay's favorite ice cream in his freezer.

"You have coconut ice cream." he mumbled and Kim, who was playing a few chords on the guitar, raised his head and looked at Porchay in confusion.

"Yes, that's your favorite."

"But you don't like ice cream." Porchay said and Kim put the guitar aside to give his boyfriend his full attention.

"But you do. Why are we having this conversation?" Kim asked and Porchay quickly bridged the distance between them and tenderly embraced Kim's face so that he could press a kiss to his lips.

"You love me." Porchay stated and Kim seemed to doubt his sanity completely.

"Of course I love you. Are you all right?"

Kim put a hand on his forehead to check if he had a fever.

"I'm fine. I'm just happy." Porchay confessed, leaning his forehead against Kim's.

"If I'd known coconut ice cream would make you so happy, I would have bought two packs." Kim joked, stealing another kiss.

"You make me happy, not the ice cream. Well, the ice cream too. But mainly you and that you remember things like that. And that you're trying to deal with Porsche. That you're getting up with me, that you're visiting your brothers more again. You're trying to do things better and I'm proud of you." Porchay whispered against Kim's lips, on which he pressed a quick kiss as a reward after each sentence.

"There's nothing I won't do for you to keep you safe and happy." Kim said earnestly as he gently pulled Porchay closer until he had no choice but to sit on his lap, where Kim instantly wrapped his arms around him possessively.

Kinn the Star

There is so much to say about this scene in the woods - where Kinn and Porsche are finally on equal footing, and they both take turns encouraging the other to open up.

One line from Kinn here sticks with me the most -

He explains how he'd wanted to be a singer as a kid, entered a competition but quit. Not because he didn't do well, but because he thinks his father bribed the judges to let him win.

And my mind's just whirring with all the implications here:

First, there's what this shows of Kinn's character - he has all the makings of a nepo baby, and definitely uses his money and privileges to get things that he (or rather his father) wants (see: expensive diamond necklace that no one's ever going to wear). But, he also has pride and integrity - he can recognize when other people are more deserving than he is, and he doesn't want undue recognition. Not when it's something that would be personally meaningful to him otherwise.

Then I'm also struck by Korn's side of this (because I can't stop thinking about Korn's relationship with his sons) - was bribing the judges an act of fatherly care, one of those intrusive things that controlling parents do because they think it would be better for their kid (even when it's something their kid would hate)? Or did he see an opportunity to improve the family's reputation, and couldn't stand to see a Theerapanyakul lose? How did Korn take Kinn quitting, if that was the case?

Of course there's always the possibility that Korn didn't bribe the judges, and Kinn won on his own merit...

That Kinn's long-forgotten dream was to be a singer of course reminds us of Kim, who's now following that same dream and seems to have carved out some freedom from the family in doing so. Did Kim's interest in singing come from Kinn, from bonding with his big brother/wanting to be like him? Did Korn meddle with Kim's career too, when he was young? Does he still try to?

And finally, it occurred to me on this rewatch that there's a bit of ambiguity here in just want kind of competition Kinn entered.

I'd always assumed it was a local competition - maybe one meant for kids, where they would compete first in their region/school and then the winners would move on to a larger, national competition. That would make sense for how Kinn could both win but also quit - he just didn't move on to the next competition.

(There may be some who still talk about that weird kid on Thai Idol, who crooned out a bunch of oldies and stole the heart of the judges, but then dramatically bowed out in the very last episode...)

A little bit about friendship in KinnPorsche and KimChay

But mainly about KimChay.

KP presents us not only with many excellent sets of brothers and lovers, but friends too.

In the center of attention of course are these four:

Tae and Time, Kinn's childhood friends, and Jom and Tem, Porsche's old friends.

We see a very good and healthy thing amongst others: Kinn' and Porsche's friends become aquainted with each other. Yes, Jom and Tem don't know the whole truth, but they are bonding anyway (especially Tem, ahem).

Jom is having a dance-off with THE Khun Tankhun by the way!

Also Yok is connecting everyone and is a good friend to Porsche.

Now I want you to look at this:

I believe that here we have something like that too, but cut extremely short as everything about KimChay is.

I start with this guy:

First of all I couldn't even find the name of the actor. Like he doesn't exist at all. IMDB, BL fandom, he is nowhere to be seen. It's a pity, he is quite charismatic. I don't know what to call him. A Guy? ugh.

I believe that he is somewhat a friend to Kim. He is friendly and freely nudges Kim. (One simply does not nudge Kimhant Theerapanyakul, but that is obviously not the case)

(btw that's the moment Kim saw Chay for the first time and stopped functioning)

Chay got Kim's address from the Guy and while I don't think he really hang out at Kim's appartment, I don't think he have his address just because he is clearly on some social duty in uni either. I think he could have went there for study-related questions or something (as Kim is missing many of his classes like Porsche does, he must have maaany study-related questions and the Guy seems the type to know everything useful). The Guy also somewhat aware of where Kim generally is. I am sure he told Chay that Kim is spending a lot of time in the studio where Chay cornered Kim after his exam. Maybe Kim and the Guy jammed there one time or other.

They obviously not close - the Guy told Kim about Chay only when Kim went to classes, so they aren't talking often, but they obviousy do.

Both sets of friends I started this with told their pining fellow that they are see through him and they see lovesickness. Tae and Time talked to Kinn about Porsche after he was shot, and Jom and Tem talked to Porsche about Kinn before the kidnapping. They told them that they know each other for too long to not notice things.

Well, the Guy apparently noticed that Kim likes Chay.

While Kim stepped behind him with that innocent look "That's your event, I'm just a guest, so it's your problem", and the Guy struggled with the issue of the lack of t-shirts, he also saw all this disaster exchange. And he nudged Kim again afterwards, smiling in that trademark smile show hosts and politicians have narrowly escaping a fiasco.

So he knows some Kimese. That can't be achieved involuntary. The guy is actively interested in Kim albeit not that much. They could be closer I guess probably if Kim was more willing.

Kim is able to make friends and he doesn't nesessarily antagonise people. Dare I say he likes to be friendly. He probably easily reaches his limit (his tower walls are too close to the patch of his enchanted forest where people are allowed to wander), but social interactions of a media person have those limits anyway.

Now to Chay's friend, Ohm.

Ohm is very supportive: he takes Chay by the shoulders and drags him over to where Kim and the Guy stand, he knows (as Tae and Time, Jom and Tem) that Chay is heartbroken, he dyes his hair, he goes with him to the bar...

But Chay still doesn't answer him, when he's making a gift to Kim.

More importantly, Ohm doesn't know who Wik is! So Ohm probably never been to Chay's room. They probably hung out in the living room. Porsche is often absent so I don't think it's a problem. And Wik's pictures aren't concealed as the certain murder board, so no, Chay prefers to keep his room to himself, only Porsche is allowed inside.

Chay also hasn't told Ohm about Wik at all. Wik is obviously precious to Chay, but I think it is another sign of Chay's reservedness which isn't very apparent on the first sight.

All in all, everyone needs a good friend or two at least. They will be hard to gain for Chay postcanon, but maybe when it will be in the happy end territory, he and Kim could have as many friends as they want and have them know each other and tease them mercilessly about their endless flow of love songs in each other's names.

I hc them as musicians and they will all jam together! =3 I like the guy who won the first t-shirt. The attitude! I think he will certainly pass the exams (so he will be studying alongside Chay) and probably can take mafia-related side of KimChay.

sorta no tutoring v2

HI. i told you i’d do all of these (and this goes to the other people, i PROMISE i’ll get to all of these after my ass is done being kicked by the end of this semester)

so! no tutoring (sorta)

the whole idea: au where porsche and chay get moved in early, the only time they’ve [kimchay] met so far is the one time at the studio so chay doesnt necessarily think kim is spying. he just said he didnt know all the happenings of the family so he didnt know porsche was working for them

so thats from chay’s pov, he doesnt know that kim was spying on him. and then from kim’s side, porsche and chay move in super early, which honestly makes kim even more sus, and now there’s no reason chay would discover hes lying so he just spies on him for like, a looonnnggg time, and maybe he even stops spying but they’re still together, and the only way chay finds out is cause he finds kims murder board and sees himself on it

Chay rolls around Kim’s enormous bed and stretches sleepily. It’s probably almost noon, given the sun beaming daggers into his eyes, which means Kim’s long since left (and is therefore not at risk of being crushed). He yawns and rubs his eyes until they can blink open, then gracelessly flops out of bed. He brushes his teeth (a habit Kim had forced into him) and heads out to the kitchen to see what he can scrounge up for breakfast. Kim’s kitchen goes through waves of being well stocked, when he has enough time to cook, and completely barren, when he doesn’t even come home let alone make himself food. Today is in the intermittent period where he has food but it’s on the verge of going bad. First and foremost, Chay makes himself a cup of coffee in the fancy machine he’d spent a month trying to figure out how to use. He randomly presses one of the buttons that sounds like something tasty and waits for it to brew while he throws a piece of bread in the toaster. Coffee and buttered toast is a well rounded diet, right? He strolls around Kim’s apartment while he nibbles on the toast. He’s been here at least once a week for the last few months, but he’s rarely here without Kim. He knows how much it means that Kim trusts him enough to be here alone, so he’s done his best to avoid snooping. And for the most part, he doesn’t (he’s very proud of himself for that). But today he is feeling a little nosy, because every time he comes here he stares at the giant portrait of Kim on the wall, which… it clearly moves. Like, it’s definitely on a track and can move side-to-side. He hasn’t brought it up to Kim but at this point, he’s confident he knows that behind it is some complicated mafia map. Something he probably won’t understand, and therefore wouldn’t hurt anyone for him to see… Sure enough, when he pushes the side of it gently, it moves. Kinn, Korn, Vegas, a bunch of random, mean-looking people, and… Him. And his brother. And his parents? Chay drops his toast on the ground. It feels dramatic to do so, after all Kim has his own brothers on this board, but his mom? Chay’s hardly ever talked to Kim about his parents, and he’s only ever had the chance to see a picture of his mom when he noticed Chay’s family photo in his room. Or, Chay thought that was the only chance. Looking again, there’s a red string going from his mom’s picture… to Korn. This is too much. Chay breathes in heavily but it gets trapped in his lungs on the exhale. The open house concert. Kim calling him after. There’s no way. Chay had told himself that meeting Kim was all his shitty luck balancing itself out. But this… this wasn’t luck.

The Chay Rewatch Ep 5

As part of my KP Rewatch, I’m going to be commenting on each episode and analyzing the different Chay scenes. He’s my favorite character, and I thought I’d put down my thoughts (as well as timestamps for his scenes) as a fun way to express that.

Ep 5 - The Music Lesson

Time 4:58-7:56 - The Bread Sticks

Yes this isn’t a Chay scene, but at this point I’m analyzing Kim and Chay scenes.

Kim’s Outfit: A classic Kim look with the leather jacket – black this time at least- and the white pants. Someone please take those white pants away from him.

Not Kim taking two seconds to confirm he’s alone in the office before practically jumping to searching for clues. He'd love escape rooms so much.

IDK if this ever gets confirmed, but those handprints belong to baby Porsche and baby Porchay right? The red paint is so ominous.

Korn, I think, definitely likes Kim the most out of his three sons. He doesn't trust him, but he sees how Kim attempts to play the game his own way. Kim, unlike Kinn and Khun, is suspicious of everything, an amazing fighter, and establishing himself on his own. Kim makes an amazing chess piece. If Korn could control him, he’d be set.

Kim, your interrogation is not subtle at all, and Korn knows it. But, he allows it because Kim expressing interest in the family makes it easier for him to draw his youngest back into the fold. But, that doesn’t mean he trusts his son.

“I’m more interested in what you’re thinking.” – cue the dramatic music. This honestly makes me question why Kim is investigating his father. The show never really gives us a motive for that, nothing to clearly explain what starts this obsession. Kim is obviously paranoid and suspicious of everything, but he got out of the family compound, and he’s living on his own. Usually that would mean you want nothing to do with the family, but Kim actively searches out what his father has done.

Time: 11:54 – 13:53 – Talking & not talking at the carp pond

The quick look at Kim that Khun does just before he walks on screen after quietly waiting for him is so meaningful. Khun is never quiet. But, he knows that Kim never comes home and treats him like a wild animal letting his youngest brother come to him. Once he’s acknowledged that’s when Khun gets loud.

Kim, your ass ain’t subtle. His casual walk by the carp pond that isn’t near the front entrance or garage. You wanted to check in on your brother just as much as your brother wants to check in on you. The lack of communication in this household

How in the hell did Kim get Chay’s phone number? And why is Chay just answering random numbers late at night?

Chay probably thought his wildest dream had come true :(

Time: 30:40 – 38:28 - Chay didn’t even get to eat the snacks

Porchay is so cute with his guitar next to his idol

Chay’s outfit: so begins the plaid shirt era. The blue looks good on him and it matches the subtle blue flowers on Kim’s jacket. He looks so soft.

Kim’s outfit: the blood-red velvet bomber jacket is such a good look on him! This is a Wik outfit through and through. Kim knows Chay is obsessed with Wik, so Wik is what Kim is going to give him. Why did this style only appear in one episode! Why is almost every other jacket a leather jacket! I need to know what his shirt says desperately. I need to analyze it.

Kim preparing snacks, sorry sir but do you want Chay to fall in love with you right now? Giving someone food is an act of love (to me at least), and as a hungry teenager definitely to Porchay as well.

Chay responding that it seems fun when questioned why he wants to study music. Yes, baby boy enjoy what you want to do in life. No joke Kim is not used to this level of blatant honesty. Chay has nothing to hide and why should he? He likes music and it's fun. That’s it.

“Let’s do it on your brother.” – Kim you are not slick. This is embarrassing!

CHAY’S HEAD TILT WHEN HE’S QUESTIONING HOW KIM KNOWS ABOUT PORSCHE! I AM UNWELL

Anyways, no Chay please don’t accept that awful explanation. I know Kim didn’t call you out for the all sides comment, but please! Stranger Danger! You can see Chay’s brain working through the excuses of Okay he let me be weird I have to let him be weird now because maybe he did see it, maybe this isn’t so weird. Kim, you are so lucky Chay likes you enough to be colorblind.

“I still feel like I can’t be like him.” – that’s a little heartbreaking considering Chay desperately wants to take some of the burden off of Porsche. Porsche who to Chay is the rock his whole life is built on.

I’m sorry Chay just giving Kim his phone. Are you not scared he’ll see your Wik stan account or your AO3 Chay?

The photos they chose for Chay’s catalogue are so cute. Why did I just now only notice that Porsche’s red shirt has a ton of cats on it? How much do you wanna bet that was a gift from Chay?

The texts to Porsche break my heart. Chay obviously knows his brother won’t respond, but he still needs the catharsis of talking to him because that was their dynamic before. They were always open and always there for each other

Chay has so much self-confidence and power. He wrote something in minutes and sees that his idol is trying to ditch him, but he still goes hold on mister please listen to what I wrote. That’s what being raised by bad bitch, don’t think about consequences, love is not a weakness Porsche Kittisawat is like.

You can see Kim realize that this kid is good and start screaming in his head before he joins in. Kim loves music, and even though every bit of him is screaming get this kid out he’s not useful, he can’t help but break open just a little bit

Time: 39:52 – 40:34 – Bro shenanigans

Chay practicing so hard on his guitar! He really does love music and genuinely finds it fun!

The way he freezes when he see Porsche and then just runs to him! He missed his brother so much. He’s definitely been so lonely without Porsche, but he doesn’t show it to his brother.

The brother bonding montage. You can tell these two characters only ever had each other.

Chay’s Outfit: Chay is wearing a Tanjiro from Demon Slayer shirt (I would recognize that haori print anywhere), which holy shit costuming y’all are so wild for this one. Tanjiro sacrificing everything after his family died and Nezuko his sole surviving sibling becoming a demon. The green shorts paired with it are cute.

The focus on Chay monologuing and Porsche listening intently.

Chay going off on a school trip after being forced to by Porsche is so telling. Porsche doesn’t see his worth in other people’s lives. Chay desperately misses his brother, but allows Porsche to persuade him because it makes Porsche happy to see Chay live a good life, one that Porsche never got a chance to have.

Overall Chay Rating (Chrating): I’m going to give this episode an A.

I love the different sides we get to see of Chay here with both Kim and Porsche. He’s such a bright person. He’s not as naïve as some people think. He definitely saw Kim’s weird thing about Porsche, but he doesn’t see the worst in people and moves past it. He’s so happy seeing Porsche even though Porsche essentially abandoning him had to hurt. He chooses to be happy that his brother is home.

And the one time they took care of him.

Tankhun

Tankhun was savvier than he seemed. It was one of Kinn’s greatest weights that his brother was too broken to take up the position of head of their family. He was intelligent, cunning, and brutal. The kind of man who could lead their family into a new time of prosperity. He was imminently suited to this life. Unfortunately, he was just too broken to lead their family. He didn’t have the ability to be serious constantly anymore.

Kinn still loved his older brother, though. A lot. Which is why he was there, watching as Khun fussed at being forced to choose more guards.

“I have Pete. Isn’t that good enough? I never even leave the house. What does it matter?”

“Because you are still vulnerable. I don’t want anything to happen to you again. If I have to hire a hundred men, I am never letting anything happen to you again.”

Tankhun licked his lips and looked over at the guards that had been gathered. Chan had done a good job with them. Each of them would work well as Khun’s bodyguard. They had the right mixture of skill and laziness. They could defend, but they could also just sit around watching dramas with Tankhun.

Tankhun gestured to Pete to follow him, and he did. The two of them carefully inspected the rows of men, conversing about what they were looking for. Finally, after several minutes, they nodded to each other and returned to Kinn.

“I want Arm and Pol. They will serve under Pete.”

Vegas

Vegas sat silently, staring at the weights and resistance bands he was supposed to be doing his exercises with. They did not get up and start moving on their own and help him rebuild the strength he had lost.

“Aren’t you supposed to be using those?”

Vegas turned to look at Kinn. “Yeah, I am.” He didn’t expand beyond that.

“Are you okay?”

Vegas looked up at him from underneath his eyelashes and shrugged. Kinn, mindless of his expensive suit, sat on the floor next to him and put an arm around him.

“Why aren’t you doing your physio?”

Vegas tried to hold back his tears. “Because it’s hard! Because I’m going to spend all of this time on it, and I won’t even get back to where I was before. Kinn, I will never be the person I was before I was hospitalized.”

“Oh, Vegas. I’m so sorry this happened to you. I’m sorry that you have to live with this every day. I’m not going to lie and say you’ll be back to what you were before because I don’t know that. All I know is that wherever you get to, it is more than enough. You are more than enough for this family. I want you to do these exercises because you deserve to be healthy, not because you need to be any more than what you already are now.”

“Hia,” Vegas said and wrapped his arms around Kinn.

“I know, I know it’s hard for you. But I know you can do it. And even if you can’t, even if you never do another exercise again, you’ll always be good enough.”

Kim

“Damn it.” Kinn watched as Kim threw the pencil across the room angrily.

 “What’s wrong?”

Kim turned and glared, and for a split second, he looked so much like Vegas they could’ve been twins. The narrow faces and that impressive scowl. Kinn raised an eyebrow at him and gestured at the mess of his studio.

“Come on then, tell me.”

“It just doesn’t work. This damn song. I keep trying and trying, but I just can’t seem to figure out how it should go. It’s making me insane. Like when you have a word you can’t quite remember.”

“Do you want a little help with it?”

Kim hesitated and then nodded. “Yeah, will you just listen to it and see if you can pick out where it’s going wrong?”

Kinn nodded and took a seat. Kim started to play, and Kinn listened. It took a few minutes, but “I think your chord changes are wrong.”

Kim frowned, glanced at his music, and then looked down at the spot in particular. He played it through, altering one and then smiled.

“Hey! That sounds so much better.”

Kinn smiled and thought fondly about his own music aspirations. That path had long since closed to him, but he liked being able to help Kim with his music now and then. Kim replayed through the whole piece, smiling when it sounded much better to him.

He grinned, delighted, at Kinn, and Kinn’s heart went so soft. Soon, he’d be a teenager who never needed a bit of help and would be much too cool to talk to him. For now, he was still his little brother.

“Anytime.”

Macau

It was undeniable that Macau was babied. It was inevitable, being the youngest of five. Kim was the closest in age, but even he was three years older. They just couldn’t help themselves, though.

Kinn was definitely the worst for it. Which is why he was staying up late with Macau, watching movies. It was the anniversary of the death of Macau’s mother, and he had asked Kinn to stay up with him. How was Kinn supposed to say no when that sweet little face looked up at him? He couldn’t, so that’s why they were watching romantic movies and lying on the couch together.

“You didn’t want to do this with Vegas?”

Macau shrugged lightly. “I don’t remember a lot about her, but he does. Whenever we talk about her, he gets really sad. So, I do my thing, and he does his. He likes to sit at her graveside alone for a little while with flowers. The one thing I really do remember is that she really loved these kinds of movies. So, I watch them.”

Kinn turned to the screen. He hadn’t known his aunt Milan very well. They had spent very little time over at the main family home. However, what he did remember was that she was a total romantic.

“Okay, kiddo. We can watch as many as you want and stay up as late as you want. I’ll call tomorrow and excuse you from school. We can sleep late and then have a good breakfast. Just you and me.”

“Thanks, hia.”

Kinn

Kinn was falling to pieces. He didn’t want to admit it to anyone, but he was. The work was piling up, and with the tensions with one of the smaller gangs, he was just starting to feel completely incompetent. But he didn’t feel like he could go to any of his brothers with it. He was the head of the household. He should’ve been fine. He took care of anything. So why was he so tired?

He got up from his desk and walked toward his room, thinking about taking a nap before his next meeting. When he opened up the door, instead of the overpowering silence of his rooms, there was the sound of laughter and teasing. Khun, Vegas, Kim and Macau were all sitting in his living room.

“Kinn!” exclaimed Tankhun. He got to his feet and threw his arms around Kinn. Kinn hugged his brother back.

“Is everything okay?”

They all grinned at each other.

“Everything’s fine. We’ve just noticed that you’ve been having a hard time, and we wanted to cheer you up,” Vegas offered from the couch.

Kinn felt his throat close up slightly. “Oh, you guys, that’s so sweet.”

Khun gestured dramatically. “Yeah, so we just knew we had to have the best party in the world. We’ve got snacks and movies. Anything you could want tonight. It’s all about you. You’re going to leave that boring paperwork for later and come and join us.”

Kinn couldn’t think of anything he’d rather be doing.
