This one goes out to that old guy I saw at walmart yesterday loading up his pioneer woman cookware onto his motorcycle while enter sandman played
steddie | G | WC: 1154
---
“Hey baby, can you?”
“No.”
Steve's sweet tone sours immediately returning to the much more familiar gently bitchy tone Eddie knows and loves. “You don't even know what I was gonna ask.”
“Twenty-five years of marriage, lawful and not, Sunshine. I know when you're about to ask me for some shit we don't need.”
“Why would I be calling you if we didn't need it?”
“Because if you needed it you would have told me about it when I said, ‘Stevie, sweetie, light of my life, sun to my dawn,’” he looks around trying to figure out where the hell they moved the oranges and why the produce section is never in the same configuration anytime he comes here. He makes eye contact with a kid wearing an artificially faded printing of his own tour merch looking at him with a starry eyed look of recognition not of the celebrity but of family.
“Did you forget where you were going with that old man?”
He decides he might as well put on a show, both halves of this conversation already know he's going to do what he's told. “‘Stevie, my one truth north, my muse, my reason to continue living, my dearest husband, I'm going to Walmart,’ I told you not but thirty minutes ago and asked if you needed me to get you anything and you said no.”
“Oh, you aren't going to monologue for your adoring public all the sweet names I called you?” Steve is amused, he can tell, he's always been able to tell. He's accepting this as his penance for not giving Eddie an actual grocery list when he left.
“Well dear heart I am in public, but if you think we can find another grocery store to go to after getting banned from this one. I guess there is the Kroger on the other side of town.” The kid laughs, tries to hide it behind their hand, but if Eddie has had anything in this life it's experience with teens eavesdropping on conversations they shouldn't be.
“Oh you're really hamming it up, huh, Teddy. Can I tell you what you're getting me yet or do you still have a couple minutes in your set?”
He's given up on oranges, moves on to the onion he actually came here for, the lone ingredient for dinner that he'd forgotten from his clicklist. If they want to actually have the roast tonight it needs to start soon. “What is it that you remembered we needed, oh song of my heart.”
“I already sent you the link so you get exactly what I want.”
It's just ominous enough of a non-answer that he pulls his phone out of his pocket, juggling it and the five things he'd already grabbed that weren't on his one item list. He doesn't have the time to regret not grabbing the cart he was sure he hadn't needed when he sees what he's been sent.
“I'm on my bike! Where am I going to put that?”
“I'm sorry, am I hearing you correctly? Was I right when I said, ‘Teddy bear, my stars, my bard-’”
“You aren't on speaker.”
“My beloved damsel in distress, maybe the motorcycle isn't the most efficient of midlife crisis vehicles. Aren't you going to want something with more trunk space, why don't you get a Caddy or a Bimmer for old times sake. And what did you say?”
“I don't recall.”
“Probably for the best wouldn't want you banned from Walmart, what would the tabloids say?”
“Nothing that would match your wit, Sweetheart. Does it have to be this one?”
“Yes, the plaid matches the kitchen remodel, so be a good boy and strap it to your bike. And remember we've still got one kid to put through school if she decides to go, don't bring home any strays with you. Do you need to do your encore now, baby?”
“I accept your quest, my dashing prince. I shall return home with my bounty posthaste.” Encore complete, audience still enraptured, Eddie dips into the sincere. It's been nearly thirty years together and he's not once ended a call without saying, “I love you.”
“Love you too, my knight in denim battle vest. I'll see you when you get home.”
The call ends with the usual dull toned beep beep, the playlist the call interrupted starts to filter back into his earbud. He realizes he's going to have to walk right past the kid to get to the side of the store with Steve's Instant Pot.
“Hear they're about to have a reunion tour,” he says gesturing down at the reprint of their Came Back Wrong Tour shirt. The faux-fading has left a crack through his own face at the bottom making him unrecognizable, not that he looks the same now as he did at 25. “Those old bands just don't know how to retire.”
“I think it's smart that they're playing up the recent tik tok fame.” The kid says, “No one's even seen their lead singer since the 90s and after their first national tour he'd started wearing that mask.”
It hurts a little bit the way the kid says 90s like it's some bygone era lost to time. Tries to appreciate instead how good the mask idea had been, he'd really been an innovator. “That was a pretty sweet gimmick, you think he'll bring it back? It's kind of Orville Peck's thing now isn't it.”
The kid slumps, managing the impressive feat of looking desolate while standing over the tomatoes. “Probably, not that I'll see it. I couldn't manage to get a ticket.”
That is something he can fix, “Here,” he manages to grab ahold of his wallet, “as luck would have it, I've got a couple spares.”
The kid looks torn between fear and elation, it's likely at least the second strangest thing to ever happen to them in a Walmart. “Oh I can't-”
“No strings, I got it through work for my sister-in-law to go with my husband. She asked why none of the good bands ever have reunion tours so… not going obviously. And my husband insists he's too old to be that close to the stage. You'd be doing me a favor really.”
“If you're sure,” they say, the hesitance more a mannered necessity than real.
“Sure as shooting. Seriously, here give me your name so my husband knows who to make the thank you note out to.”
“Aspen, thank you really!”
Twenty minutes later when he’s got a kitchen appliance bungied to the back of his bike he’ll appreciate that something good came out of this. Three weeks later when he’s standing at the front of a sold out arena he’ll mostly appreciate another chance to be dramatic, “This next one is for Aspen who didn’t laugh when an old man tried to flirt with his husband in the produce aisle. Gareth, count me in.”

As a Spouse and a Parent~ Task Force 141
Pairings: Simon Riley, John MacTavish, Kyle Garrick, John Price X Fem! Reader
Warnings: Fluff, Pregnancy, Prior Abuse, some NSFW is referenced
Word Count: 2,269
Author Notes: Is this feeding into a deep longing of mine? Why yes, yes it is. I'm sorry if this is poorly written I was writing this at 3am
Simon “Ghost” Riley
Tumblr media
As a Spouse
Simon actually didn’t want to get married in the beginning, because if you wanted to get married it would only put a potential target on not just you but anyone you're close to. But I can assure you he wanted nothing more than to put a ring on your finger, and as a testament to that you should have heard how picky he was with your ring. Soap was definitely losing his mind while trying to help Simon out
After the initial hesitation in the first year of your marriage not much had changed between you and Simon, but your relationship continued to grow as Simon became more upfront with nothing that seemed to really bother him. Of course keeping everything related to his job confidential.
He became more doting on you, constantly craving for your attention whenever he’s at home. It was honestly comical that this large man seemed to melt into a puddle at the slightest touch from you, practically purring for you when you rake your hands through his hair when you cuddle in those late mornings. Even after this he will ask you not to share how he truly acts at home with any of his teammates, there often was the threat of not getting any more breakfasts in bed from him.
Oh and when I tell you this man can cook, I mean he can COOK. Like this man can cook full course meals but the only time you have to interfere is because he doesn't use seasoning very much. Secretly he enjoys these small moments with you, just spending quality time whenever he can is what helps him realize that getting married was the best decision.
As a Parent
When you told him you were pregnant for the first time he had a whole mental meltdown that ended up with him leaving to take a walk around your neighborhood. Now it wasn’t because he was angry, if anything he was terrified.
This is a man who has faced horrid abuse at the hands of his father, had his Brother, mother, sister in law, and his nephew murdered because of his job, had so many near death experiences, and killed men without a second thought. How could someone like him raise a child properly, much less raise one that wouldn’t hate him for who he was.
After returning and talking his fears out, you both soon started to prepare the arrival of your child. And lets be real he is fascinated with each step of your pregnancy, His favorite part was feeling his child react to his touch each time. Just to add this in because I just have a feeling this might happen, this man would definitely end up having at least 5 kids because he falls in love all over again with each one. Not only that but he wants to prove that he is a better dad than his own could have ever been.
Simon loves all his kids and will spend each moment he can with them, going to dance recitals, practice, helping with homework, putting them all to bed. Does he become a tired dad after 5 kids? Well of course he would but does he regret it, Never.
Johnny “Soap” MacTavish
Tumblr media
As a Spouse
Oh my gosh, now this man right here is one of the Sweetest Hubbies out there. You talk about remodeling the kitchen? Well here is your new kitchen after a month. Craving a certain food, he’s either buying it or attempting to make it.
From the first point when I mean attempting I really mean “Attempting” because this man cannot cook to save his life. And before you try to say he can, he can cook a few things but hardly anything is seasoned because the military has ruined his sense of taste. While he can’t outright cook more than simple meals like grilled cheese sandwiches it doesn't mean he can't help chop up ingredients or be your taste tester. His favorite thing to do is help you bake and you know this man will be licking the spoon and the bowl, he ended up stealing it once and locked himself in the bathroom so you couldn't stop him.
When he's home you can guarantee you're gonna be cuddled to death by him, he hardly ever lets you leave and if you're gone for more than five minutes he's going to look for you and become a human koala. Johnny I feel like is a very affectionate lover and will do anything to find a compromise if you two can't agree on something. He never makes big decisions without you as in his eyes being married means you have to work together not against each other.
As a Parent
Ok let's be real here out over everyone in the task force Johnny has the BIGGEST Breeding kink out there, and like most men he isn't much of a fan of condoms simply because it takes out the intimacy. He has a true addiction to cumming inside you so it's no surprise you end up becoming pregnant.
When you tell him you're pregnant he would let out the biggest yell and then tackle you into a bear hug while crying from pure joy. After finding this out he immediately called and told both of your families. He's very invested with both yours and the baby's development over time. His favorite thing to do is to fall asleep on your lap with his head near your bump no matter how big or small it is while running his hand over it.
While he does get prepared once you start reaching the end of your pregnancy it doesn't stop the military one bit. After hearing he would end up deploying towards the end he was devastated, while he understands you cant stop when you're called back to base he wanted nothing more to stay home and would even risk going AWOL.
He would constantly facetime you everyday when he's gone, and while he wasn't physically there for the birth of your child he did encourage you from the phone while being hundreds of miles from home. And when he was finally able to finally come home? He gathered you both up in his arms and refused to let go.
But as your child grows up I can definitely say Johnny is the most supportive and fun dad out there. He wants nothing more than to see his kid grow up to be a respectful and easy person who still takes time to appreciate the little things and know when to have a little fun.
Kyle “Gaz” Garrick
Tumblr media
As a Spouse
This man I feel like can be often overlooked so here we're gonna give him a whole bunch of lovins here. Gaz is more of a selfless lover by heart, so be prepared to be showered in love and attention 24/7. Trying to read a book? Well now you're both reading a book because he wants to constantly be in your presence.
While Kyle is home he would definitely want to go on walks and hikes with you just so you're both exploring together. That being said he tries to plan yearly vacations for you both wherever you both decide to visit. Like Simon, Kyle wants to spend as much time with you as he can while he's home. The awful part about his job is to think that there might be a last time he would ever see you, so he wants to take advantage of every second.
Kyle loves to talk about your future together, wondering about your lives of what could happen or what could have been. His favorite part though is to talk about settling down somewhere away from the hustle and bustle of the big cities in the UK. Having a little house in a village far out into the countryside where the both of you can live in peace.
Maybe there are often times where he thinks that your dreams of living out your lives together may never become a reality when coming back after a rather rough mission. You will have to talk him out of those thoughts just to remind him that even on the roughest days you'll always be by his side even when he can't see you.
As a Parent
This man is NOT prepared to hear that you're pregnant. Wanna know what he does when you wait until he comes home to tell him? This man straight up faints from the overwhelming news. After hearing you freaking out after coming to he just wraps you up as you're both on the floor and just says “This wasn't in our road map, love” as a joke.
It does take him off guard to understand that he's not only fighting the darkness just to protect you but for his child now. And to say that it keeps driving him forward to survive every mission more than ever before is a vast understatement.
Kyle ends up asking you one day after being home for a week on how many you both feel comfortable with having, you both decide on having two. Over time his excitement continued to grow the bigger your child got and when I tell you this man keeps buying toys and baby clothes I'm not joking. He's a hoarder of baby stuff now
When your little one is finally born this man has constant tears that the nurses even joked that your husband cried more than you while in labor. He's mesmerized by this child, that while you fall asleep he begins to pledge his life for the newborn in his arms. Gaz as a dad is one of the sweetest things in the world, always wanting to be involved in his children's lives and to spend every minute with them.
John Price
Tumblr media
As a Spouse
This man is by far the biggest romantic out there without a doubt, always wanting to surprise you when you least expect him to be home. His favorite memory was when he came in with you eating ice cream on the couch and he grabbed you from behind, he didn't regret having to clean the couch afterwards.
You better expect he's gonna take you out whenever he gets home too, like this man WANTS to show you off no matter where you go. You both go out to a fancy restaurant you're getting shown off, at a taco truck just down from your shared home. Well guess what you're still getting shown off even if you're dressed in sweatpants and a T-shirt.
Don’t blame this man for any of it because he's just so in love with you he can't help himself. But if he had to choose between staying at home or going out without a doubt he would choose to stay in with you and just enjoy the limited time he has. While yes sometimes he has to bring home paperwork he still finds a way such as having you curled up in his lap over his tights and having a blanket draped over the both of you.
That being said there have been times you've both fallen asleep in the chair and you both totally have NEVER tipped the chair back. It definitely became an inside joke between the both of you but it's something you both never mention to anyone else.
As a Parent
You and John have talked about what you might do if you ever decided to have kids, but you've both tried to be as safe during your “Adult” time but it seems that life said otherwise. While you had no reason to be upset or nervous about telling John you couldn't help the nagging feeling of anxiety. You don't tell him right away, but you rather plan it around one of your nightly walks.
At first he thought you were messing with him and doing one of your pranks again, but after seeing your serious face he was speechless. After the initial shock he pulls you in and kisses you, he lets out a laugh after pulling back before resting his hand over your stomach. John tries to be around as much as he can for the majority of your pregnancy, but life as an officer is a very demanding one.
While he's gone on deployments he tries to stay in contact as much as he can, and if he doesn't have service he keeps a picture of you and a sonogram picture of his little one tucked away in his tactical vest. The only person he shows and talks about his new child with is Simon, because this man is dealing with 5 kids even after saying he's too old for this life.
You end up giving birth right before John was getting ready to land, and let's just say this man threatened a lot of people just so he could get to the hospital as soon as possible. John overall as a parent would definitely be doting but he knows when he needs to put his foot down, even if it does end up drawing tears. He’s one of those dads too that definitely lets his kids do whatever to him, especially if he has a daughter.

kitchen status
ok well. so. we're at the point now where the countertop guy (his name was Ken and he had a cool laser thing and confessed he often enjoys playing with people's cats with the laser thing when nobody's paying attention; alas our cat is not home and missed her chance) has come and measured, and now the countertops are due on January 4th.
Today the electricians are finishing the installation of all the outlets and such, which is exciting.
My mother advised me that the one thing she regrets about her kitchen remodel of, gosh more than ten years ago now, is that she didn't immediately install shelf liners. So I am going to do that. A cursory websearch told me that you can in fact make your own from fabric, but I think I am going to mostly buy premade ones, since they're not very expensive and I want this to get done.
BUT I do have a lazy-susan corner cabinet that's got these big round shelves that the liners won't easily fit, so I am going to make my own slightly-padded lil quilted guys to go on those, I think that's the most expedient thing. i intend to fill that cabinet with my saucepans and baking dishes, so it doesn't need to be spillproof and grippy and all that.
ANYWAY the next thing I need to think about is COLORS. I found a bunch of my notes from when we first started thinking about remodeling the kitchen and my big conclusion was "i don't want gray! i don't want a kitchen all in shades of gray!" and guess what my new kitchen is all shades of gray. BUT. that's because I realized that getting brightly colored cabinets would lock me into one color. Like blue-- a lot of bright blue options in cabinets or countertops exist, but then you're locked into that specific shade of blue. And what if the cool accessories you wanted don't coordinate? No.
So I figure, i will pick ONE very bold color, and will paint the east wall around the window, the window trim, and the west wall and entryway that color, and then perhaps a secondary bold color will be what the dishes, spoon rest, and other replaceable accessories will be in. (I think some floor rugs too, at least in a couple high-traffic areas.)
But I need help choosing colors, so please do weigh in.
The kitchen is all in shades of gray with both warm and cool tones. The floor is grayish-mottled faux stone vinyl with a kind of warm cast. The cabinets are warm wood washed blue, which comes out to a fairly cool grayish color. The countertop will be a mottled mostly-white quartz composite. The backsplash will be (boring, I know, I know) white subway tiles.
The neighboring room, the living room, which the kitchen is now wide open to, is bright, saturated buttercup yellow, with royal purple trim. (The bedroom is deep royal purple with bright scarlet trim.)
I don't like pastels or desaturated colors. The colors I prefer are primary or secondary colors in jewel tones.
So I'm currently considering cobalt blue, emerald green, pthlao green, deep teal, mermaid blue, royal purple, or bright crimson as my main color, with the smaller secondary color being either goldenrod yellow, bright scarlet, bright orange, bright turquoise, or metallic gold.
My everyday china is in the classic Blue Willow pattern, and a few of the pieces are mended with gold kintsugi from the time period in which Dude was into doing that. We also have some CalamityWare because his sister bought us a bunch of that-- and that includes some soft furnishings, a pair of kitchen towels and a hot dish mitt and an apron and such.
Middle-Little advised me that the Pantone color of the year is "Peachfuzz(TM)" and that a pale peach or bright coral would be great colors for the kitchen, and she is correct, but that is not in the slightest bit to my personal taste so I won't be doing that. Alas. She's super correct though. But I have discovered I am allergic to those types of colors. What category is that? I don't know but I know my answer is No. And I feel like anything on-trend will soon be dated. (Also, and I do know this by chance, the Pantone Color Of The Year for like 2018 was a coral color, and like, why. Why do they keep coming back to this.)
I don't know what that means but that's my story and I'm sticking to it, LOL.

[to the tune of Tom Cardy's Big Breakfast]
I don't regret ordering the BIG BATH TUB I know I'll feel so good when I'm... INSIDE THE BIG BATH TUB
OKAY SO if you've read anything I've ever written you might be aware that I have a deep and abiding love of a Big Bathtub. Tragically, this was something I did not have access to in my personal life, as the house we bought had a baby tub for babies who don't like baths. Seriously, this thing was 15" tall on the outside and maybe had 12" of soaking depth if you were lucky. I still took baths, but I complained about it the whole time.
No more.
Now I have Big Bathtub!!!! Look at it! LOOK AT IT!!! I can get my boobs AND my knees underwater at the same time! I'm gonna be making cauldrons of lady soup in there! My 6'1" wife is gonna be able to take baths and be comfortable!
If you can't find me, look for me in the Big Bathtub.
(Don't look for me.)
"Scarlett!" I hear you (a rhetorical device) saying, "I love that for you, but I am also jealous! How do I get a Big Bathtub of my very own?"
Well, my friend, if there's one thing I love more than Big Bathtub, it is oversharing about home improvement projects.
SPECIFIC MONEY TALK TO FOLLOW
Given how absolutely fucking impossible it is to find any guidance online about how much this shit costs when you're just starting the research, I'll start here: This cost us $11,466.16 and took two days to install. We live in a very high COL area, and from what other research I did and estimates we got, $10-12k was about what we could expect to pay for a new bathtub and shower surround that wasn't The Same Fiberglass Shit We Already Had, AND we would have had to bring in multiple contractors.
Some necessary background: My wife and I bought our house about eleven years ago, when house prices in Seattle were at a historic low. My mom gifted us money for the down payment, which was a huge privilege, but if she gifted us the same amount of money now it would buy us precisely jack and shit. We have the stability we have due to a rare combination of privilege and luck, and I am grateful for it literally every day.
The incredibly low price we bought this house at also allowed us to manage to stay afloat through our last seven-ish years of chronic under-employment. I won't get deeply into the details, but we spent a lot of time in a place where buying myself a package of nice butter was a luxury I had to plan for. A little over a year ago my wife got a really good job (after a year of unemployment) and this summer I got a much-overdue promotion at my day job and a significant raise! Between those two things, we've finally been in a place where we can save money for house projects instead of going into debt for them, which still seems like a fucking miracle! It hasn't gotten old yet! I don't know if it ever will!
Flush on that success, earlier this this fall I got quotes for an addition on the house (something we've wanted almost since we moved in, since it's 800 square feet and has just the one tiny bathroom) and learned it would cost AT LEAST 150% MORE than we paid for this house in the first place!!! Like we could buy a whole-ass house in a cheaper area for the cost of adding on to this one! HAHAHAHA NO!! 😭😬
After a couple days of crushing disappointment I decided this meant we could pursue smaller improvements to make the house we have into a house we love, and first on the list was Big Bathtub!
Being generally handy people (ask about the shed my wife built sometime) we looked at buying a nice tub at a showroom and having a plumber install it, but plumbers don't install shower surrounds. Okay, so we figured we could probably install a shower surround? And my dad (a retired general contractor) could help? But this isn't a kitchen counter, this is a bathroom, and in this house we don't fuck with stuff that need waterproofing. We decided we wanted someone who could handle the whole thing, so I requested quotes from remodel contractors but they all told me my project was too small!
Enter Bath Planet. They're a one-stop shop that does custom full bath surround installs with a ton of options. The sales guy who did the estimate had color and material samples with him and dug through all the options to get me the deepest bathtub possible. This sucker's 22" tall! The cost included wrapping the entire window so the sill would be waterproof! If there was damage to the subfloor, they'd repair it before installing the tub at no additional cost! The warranty is really good!
(Oh man I've become such an adult.)
Not gonna lie, the quoted price was 😬😬😬 when he was done, but we couldn't argue with the quality or convenience and we were looking at a cost of close to $7k if we bought a big tub, had a plumber installed it, and then DIYed the surround (with no guarantees about how long that would make our only bathroom unusable!) so we bit the bullet and put down a deposit.
In related news, my wife and I are giving each other very few presents this Christmas, since the tub was our main gift 😂 Our savings are... Very depleted right now, so we're gonna have to hunker down for a few months to rebuild before we can think about any other house projects or expensive fun stuff, but what we lack in money, we make up for in bathtub!
As far as the timeline went, we got the initial quote on 9/20, put down our deposit that day, and then the install happened over 12/6 and 12/7. The installer was great, the work happened exactly as it was supposed to, and now we have BIG BATHTUB.
This was a wall of text, I know! If anyone has questions I didn't answer here, though, I'm happy to answer them. It's so rough trying to find home reno information out on the wide internet, and contractor websites are worse than useless for the purpose.
Meanwhile, I will be in the Big Bathtub.

in the interest of using my journal as a journal, this week i have...
got a drill (literally essential to almost every other item on this list). this pairs well with my extremely long extension cord (another essential product recommendation) since the nearest outlet to my living room is halfway up the attic stairs
went to menards (this isn't the first time, but i joked about never quite getting there, and then never posted about it when i did, which is a violation of my menards influencer contract) and found a nest chair on clearance (thing that has been on a list for years)
put up curtains, put up curtains, put up curtains (two windows and one room-dividing red curtain to hide the HVAC in my attic bedroom. i was sort of going for like, theater style curtains or twin peaks red room or aurora album cover... the lighting is wrong, the fabric is neither quite the right color nor texture, i have half as many curtains as i need, and i couldn't find exactly the right kind of rug to drive the illusion home, but it does make the whole thing seem a lot more like sleeping in a bedroom than squatting in a half-remodeled attic like some kind of modest mouse frontman, so, i guess i'll buy a used spotlight to pair with my used disco/dj/classic skating lights and keep looking for rugs to cover up the stain on the floor that i hope is from a long-past roof leakage and is not the spot where a previous tenant died)
put up wall art
anchored my bookshelves
deposited my tax return (i'm sorry for posting so many yoshi tax evasion jokes all these years and then just dutifully filing my taxes. or, if you're a tax auditor, this is not a joke)
got a kitchen table and chairs and put them together (regret to inform you i did not really have chairs this whole time. like i had chairs once. terrible chairs. and i got rid of them when i left portland. pleased to inform you my new ones are really nice). also a kitchen shelf. because i have the world's smallest cupboards. 6.5in wide. i measured them. what are you even supposed to do with these
replaced a fraction of the cardboard boxes that i've been keeping everything in with actual containers
i still need to...
take the old, mismatched, outdated front license plate off my car (augh) (surely this is illegal), an impossible task that requires the absurd notion of taking a screwdriver outside
fix... my studio... (it looks exactly like it did in the picture i posted and i'm actually mad i didn't have more time to use it in that state but now there's also a former kitchen table and a clearance nest chair in there. i have also sort of half-commited to a standing desk in the closet, which has shelves that are not exactly the same height, so now my if-you-give-a-mouse-a-cookie ass needs a piece of lumber, and i haven't even stained my spice rack board yet)
strip the seasoning off my cast iron pan (don't ask... i am learning about polymerization the hard way. i spread it on too thick. rookie mistake. how do you even start over. i am learning about depolymerization)
go to the hardware store because i used all my fucking screws. this is a literary technique called bookending and lets the reader know that the character's life is an endlessly repeating cycle of screwing and getting screws

-> Laurence's Journal Entry at the Manor {Part 1}
Note// How is everyday at the manor like with Laurence.
Tumblr media
Day 1 {First Day in the Outcast Club-}
Hey James! I'm going to call you James rather than journal- you're my pal! You keep secrets for me afterall~
Today,,, I have the vision that coming to the manor will be worth it. There wasn't regret in leaving the Dyanthus Republic into a mysterious world of button eyes and black voids watching you through the windows,,, and heard you through the walls.
I admit, i do miss home... So I sang my heart's out with a crazy song to cheer me up! Akihiko was looking at me silly the entire carriage ride lol-
Met the Mr. Embalmer himself! Despite being quiet, he is very polite and welcoming. He even helps a little with Akihiko's luggages- it seems my partner made a new friend~ ;)
Someone just called me hot- Well, from an anonymous letter at my room when I was trying to set things up- probably saw me from afar while I was walking around the halls-
Day 2 {Suddenly I was called a Bill Cypher 2.0}
I was just giving with my radio cast microphone until suddenly, 3 figures(a dirty blonde man with glasses, some guy holding a telephone, and the illuminati???) Appeared in my studio and told me to join them to take over a universe while calling me a loser??? What the???
Also, some German gentleman with a classy suit appeared after-heard he's married which is unfortunate since he's hot/ih
But at the end, turns out it's just a dream,,, And that's why I couldn't sleep at that night after-
Ended up drinking a coffee mug as I check on some inbox questions about my and Akihiko's arrival and other things we're going to do at the manor- We both officially have the declaration to name our News Program "The Oletus Times"~!
Day 3 {This Room isn't Yassified Enough!}
Morning James! Setting up everything before taking tours around the manor was a bit complicated- I didn't expect any luxury while in my stay- but gosh,,,- The room is even more dusty! How do these people allow this 'hospitality'? Killing them with disease intentionally? Oh naw!
I don't care whatever the baron says- I'm remodeling and cleaning my room with my style! Secrets on how i got the materials? Oh, a master doesn't tell their secrets~
Akihiko must have thought the same when he first saw his room- So he moved to my room to share it, used his room as our studio - and took a whole 6 hours to finish the extensive replacing and decorating much modern stuff,,,
Aki and I almost got into a short argument whether Modern Jazz style or Westernized Japanese should be the theme of the room- we ended up making the room go half-and-half,,,- I mean, it actually worked at the end surprising. I like how there's different aesthetics in a same room! X'D
As we were remodeling of course, we also got some room service to send us some food meals while we work- it wasn't that bad,,, but not as great as the hamburgers and the coleslaw salad chef Palacios usually makes at my favorite diner!
Day 4 {A Productive Tour With Angeline!} @askthepianist
Oh gosh, Jim,,, I met a tall woman,,, A pretty nice one!!! (Pinned profile picture of Angeline from the manor's survivor files)
I started my first routine interviews that i will do everyday- going around and talk with survivors and hunters to get to know them while still getting lost in this maze-
Nonetheless, I was saved by the pianist from at least being able to know where the kitchen is(Akihiko keeps asking if there's a kitchen around to make mochis-) and now i know where the garden Ms. Woods usually works on! Heard a little bird that the senior Gardener is bringing a new stash of flower beds today~!
What a savior,,, What else can I do if i couldn't receive such help? I learned so many things today!
Day 5 {Nice Artists, Very Familiar Ones...} @idv-artists-trio
Good Evening, James! Just met a group of fellow teammates - i notice that they often stay together, it turns out they're artists! Artist squad hehe~ Rosie may be quiet, but she's very kind and cute! (^-^
Meeting Angel is another advantage to know that i won't be wearing rags for long- I'll be sure to pay him back somehow for his generosity~!
Not going to lie, Kitty resembles so much of the Head Officer Police at home- even she speaks without not having the word "meow" in every sentence!
Only 3 if them seem familiar, the only one that i don't seem to seeing somewhere is Eiji- but he does remind me of Head Shrine Maiden Ivory!
Day 6 {A Sweet Welcome Gift} @ask-idv-baker
My my, Jim! Guess what? I met one of Angel's other artist friends, Beth Anastazja,,,!!! Isn't she adorable???(Pinned profile pic of Beth from the manor's survivor files)
She appeared at our door and gave us a lot of baked goods~! Akihiko couldn't get used to receiving such generous gifts! But he seems to be more happier today after that (^-^
Hope that the cute Baker gets to have everything she needs to fulfill,,,-
Day 7 {Thrilling Game? I'm here to work hard- but i also play hard~!} @ask-idv-thrillseeker
Hey Jim! GUESS WHAT??? The manor's host allowed me to take part in the game at least once in a while! Of course, he still wants me alive- but is not like i get killed that easily~!
I also met a cool, but also hot huntress by the name of Cleo in my first match- (pinned profile pic of Cleo from the manor's hunter files)
It was a bit amusing to see her shocked reaction when i didn't hesitate in oblige her offer to stop decoding in return of her not hunting me- I mean, I'll rather receive a bonk from my teammates rather than get terrorshocked-
I'll keep a reminder to myself in inviting her to dinner,,, If she considers my offer to,,, send me into the basement ~ ❤️/ih
Day 8 {Is that King Kong but Spider,,,????}
Jim! You have no idea what just happened- I just saw a huge spider looking creature creeping on the huge window from the matching room??? Where did that come from...? Impressive,,, 🤔
I might probably start some ghost hunting research around the manor too- is it just me or I just saw a ghost appeared right next to me on the broken chair of the table... It disappears in one blink of an eye!
Day 9 {Met a guitarist- Also a Young Lady that i May or May not Adopt-} @janetheguitarist
I was doing my usual routine, but is this time talking to a young guitarist with a student uniform(?) (Pinned profile pic of Jane from the manor's survivor files)
Also a lil girl that looks like a princess,,,- how precious,,, (Pinned profile pic of Elise,,, the manor's survivor files are also missing some blanks)
Day 10 { What a Lovely Surprise,,, How Enticing ~} @idv-ask-snakecharmer
James? I met a handsome Snakecharmer- I call him Prince now,,, (Pinned post of Amar in the manor's survivor files)
I like his sweet advances while he was using his mother tongue- I didn't even expected him to kiss my hand I-????
Not sure why, but I still played along and got him flustered as well- uno reverse card, hehe~❤️
Sad that he couldn't stay long enough- but he did left me with a nice kiss~ ;)

How to Integrate Tiles in Your Kitchen Renovation Project
Tumblr media
Renovation projects are quite hectic with all the details and planning to look after and if anything goes wrong then it leads to both cost and time overruns. That is why often it is seen that millennials break down their renovation plan and focus on one room at a time.
That is you see that many people give priority to the rooms that require a quick remodeling and this is where the kitchen feature at the top of the list. Your kitchen is a place where everyone whether family members or guests like to congregate.
A common renovation feature that most people like to integrate their kitchens with is tiles. Tiles are a rage across the globe & add an aesthetic appeal to your kitchen. Here in this article, we will discuss the tips that will help you in integrating tiles while carrying out your kitchen remodeling.
Location of the Tiles
The most important thing that you must take into consideration on a priority basis is the location of the tiles. The tiles in your kitchen can be used for various purposes starting from the backsplashes behind the kitchen stove to the walls and countertops and even for flooring.
This is where people face a lot of dilemmas and a lot of them use the tiles for flooring and then add some colorful tiles to the rest of the areas to bring that glamorous appeal to their kitchen. Besides that, you can also use several tiles as splash guards by installing them on the wall just above the countertop.
Moreover, if you are already having tiles in your kitchen but still they are losing the charm, then you can consider changing the direction of the tiles. You can ask your kitchen contractor to install the new tiles in your kitchen vertically or horizontally depending on what changes you would like to see in your kitchen.
Use Different Types of Tiles
Now, most people don’t think about it that using different types of tiles in their kitchen will add quirkiness to their kitchen. If your kitchen is missing that personal touch, then you must definitely add an extra layer of detail to your kitchen flooring and walls.
Most people add the second tile in smaller portions throughout the backsplash or go for the floor by leaving gaps uniformly in their floor where the second tile can be integrated easily. Furthermore, when you are adding tiles to the floor of your kitchen, then they will make your floor water and stain resistant making the maintenance work quite easy.
Most millennials often face difficulty integrating tiles into their kitchen floor because of a lack of available space. In this case, you can go for large-size tiles that will make your kitchen look bigger. In addition to this, you must also choose the color of your tiles wisely keeping in mind that they have to complement the looks of your kitchen.
Choose the Cabinets
If you are going for a complete kitchen renovation, then you need to pay special attention to the cabinets of your kitchen. There are several instances where people regret choosing cabinets for their kitchen that are not in sync with the tiles used in their kitchen.
This is a disaster that you need to avoid at all costs because no matter how much money or time you are going to spend in your kitchen everything will be futile if your cabinets & kitchen tiles are not complementing each other. Especially the color of the cabinets and the tiles should be in tune with each other.
Don’t Forget the Island
Nowadays, many people are opting for modular kitchens with kitchen islands for the convenience of working and serving food in the kitchen. Whenever you are renovating your kitchen you need to take into account the kitchen island in the larger scheme of things.
Leaving out the kitchen island will make your whole kitchen remodeling go haywire. That is why you must also think of the tiles you are going to use for your island. Now, you should opt for different tiles for your kitchen island rather than using the same tiles you had used for your kitchen flooring. Contrasting color tiles for your kitchen island will make a bold statement.
Finally
The above-discussed factors are some of the leading plans that you can implement when you are trying to integrate tiles into your kitchen renovation project. In addition to these tips, you should also consult your kitchen remodeling contractor for additional information that will help you out in your remodeling work.

Kitchen Renovation Disaster Stories: Avoid These Common Mistakes
Tumblr media
Renovating your kitchen can be an exciting project, but it can also turn into a nightmare if you're not careful. Over the years, I've seen and heard my fair share of renovation horror stories from friends and acquaintances in Singapore. Here are some common mistakes to avoid when undertaking a kitchen remodel Singapore.
Rushing into Decisions
One of the biggest pitfalls in kitchen renovation is rushing into decisions without proper planning. Hiring a reputable kitchen renovation contractor Singapore is crucial, but so is taking the time to consider your options:
Research: Take time to research different materials, designs, and contractors.
Budget: Set a realistic budget and stick to it to avoid overspending.
Ignoring Functional Layouts
Aesthetic appeal is important, but functionality should never be compromised. I've seen cases where homeowners prioritize style over practicality, leading to regrets later. Consider these tips:
Workflow: Plan the layout to optimize workflow between cooking, storage, and cleaning areas.
Storage: Ensure ample storage space for utensils, pots, and pantry items.
Choosing Cheap Materials
Trying to save costs by opting for the cheapest materials often backfires. Low-quality materials may look good initially but can deteriorate quickly, leading to additional expenses down the line:
Quality: Invest in durable materials for countertops, cabinets, and flooring.
Longevity: Quality materials not only look better but also last longer, saving you money in the long run.
Underestimating the Timeline
Renovations rarely finish exactly on schedule. Delays can occur due to unforeseen issues or changes in design plans. It's essential to:
Plan Ahead: Factor in buffer time for unexpected delays.
Communication: Maintain open communication with your contractor to stay updated on progress.
Overlooking Lighting and Ventilation
Good lighting and ventilation are often underestimated in kitchen renovations. Poor lighting can make tasks difficult, while inadequate ventilation can lead to moisture issues and odors:
Lighting: Install task lighting under cabinets and ambient lighting for overall brightness.
Ventilation: Invest in a good range hood to ensure proper air circulation.
Failing to Obtain Permits
In Singapore, certain renovations require permits and approvals from the Housing Development Board (HDB) or Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA). Failure to obtain necessary permits can lead to fines and legal issues:
Compliance: Check with local authorities or your contractor regarding necessary permits.
Documentation: Keep all permits and approvals in order to avoid complications.
Wrapping Up
Renovating your kitchen can significantly enhance your home's value and livability if done right. By avoiding these common mistakes and working closely with a reliable kitchen renovation contractor in Singapore, you can ensure a smoother and more satisfying renovation experience. Remember, careful planning and attention to detail are key to achieving the kitchen of your dreams without the headaches.

Add Bespoke Beauty to Your Kitchen With Custom Cabinetry
No matter where in Salt Lake you're remodeling, from older homes in Avenues to modern new builds in Park City, custom cabinets bring extra beauty and functionality to any room. Unlike prefabricated cabinets found at home improvement stores that cater for everyone, custom cabinetry can be tailored specifically to the kitchen needs and aesthetics of each homeowner.
Custom cabinetry begins with a consultation with a design expert where clients explore customization options. Designers assess space needs and objectives such as storage requirements, traffic routes and sink/appliance placements to inform cabinet dimensions, configurations and features that best meet them.
Clients can choose from an extensive array of materials, styles, and finishes to achieve the look they want for their room. Stain colors ranging from traditional, contemporary, and modern are key in setting the atmosphere in any space, while door and drawer style combinations and beaded inset frames add depth and visual interest.
The type of wood used can also impact the aesthetics of cabinetry. Popular choices for this application include maple, cherry and oak due to their distinctive grain patterns, strength and resistance to staining; Hickory and walnut are equally exquisite and require minimal staining for luxurious looks; other woods like ash and alder may require additional staining treatments in order to achieve luxurious appearances.
Finishes such as satin enamel, hand-brushed highlight and random distressing can further customize the cabinetry's appearance and durability. A sprayed glaze and hand-brushed highlight can give an antique-look patina, while an oven-cured coating helps guard against scratches and dents.
Tumblr media
No matter the style of cabinetry chosen for your kitchen renovation project, it's vitally important to set an appropriate budget. Upgrades such as countertops, sinks, faucets and flooring can significantly raise costs; discussing budgetary limitations with your designer will help avoid unwise spending decisions and prevent the purchase of unnecessary specialty built-ins.
Before finalizing any element - be it paint, countertop material or cabinetry finish - it is crucial to obtain samples. Trial them out in your space under different lighting conditions to make sure that they match and work harmoniously together - this step can save costly mistakes or regret down the line.
Cabinet selection will also have an effect on overall project costs. Stock and semi-custom cabinets tend to be cheaper, while fully custom designs offer greater customization with shorter lead times for construction. Stock cabinets and semi-custom pieces come standard; fully custom versions require hand crafting down to fractions of an inch, creating the highest level of personalization possible.

2023.
Saying this year was rough is an understatement. It's been a hard year for so many people in so many ways and I'm still having difficulty reconciling it all. It's been a year of loss and grief and stress and anxiety and it seems oddly appropriate that I'm wrapping up 2023 sick on the couch.
2023 Highlights:
House Remodeling. We bit off a lot this year, with a half-bath remodel (first major project) and a kitchen remodel (almost done!). This house feels more like us every day and it's rewarding, though time-consuming and expensive. We've replaced all of our kitchen appliances (including installing an over-the-range microwave) and learned how to drywall, how to lay tile, and how to extend our drip sprinkler system. We've also learned how to turn off our water main and that cutting tile is not a skill I'm blessed with.
Cup In Six. Zero regrets about spending an entire bonus (and then some) on the two worst tickets in the stadium so we could be in attendance for a Stanley Cup Finals game (that we won by a good few goals!). Getting to watch the actual Cup winning game from outside the stadium a few days later and be in the midst of an entire crowd singing "We Are The Champions" was absolutely something else. It's been incredible watching this team do what they've done and the way this city has embraced them from day (fucking) one.
Little Free Library. I always wanted to set up a Little Free Library after first encountering them on my first trip to Milwaukee back in 2013. Owning our home (and not having an HOA to deal with) finally gave me the opportunity to do so. It's allowed me to set up something with some Route 66 vibes and also to stock the library with copies of some of my favorite reads (primarily LGBTQ+ YA and children's books). We get a lot of use from the kids in the neighborhood and I'm excited I'm not the only one getting enjoyment from it.
Unraveled. It took me far too many years to evolve my knitting past scarves and the occasional blanket, but learning to knit sweaters and shawls and to appreciate the art ($30 skein price tags and all) of hand-dyed yarn has really enhanced my craft. I've complete multiple sweaters this year and learned to knit cables, and I have a whole collection of yarn and planned patterns in store for the coming months. Next year's goal is to complete my first pair of knit socks.
Continued Travels. Spain, Oakland (x2), Reno/Tahoe, Portland, Denver/Colorado Springs. While the race travels continue to be on pause, there have still been the occasional getaways, mostly brief. I'm being as intentional as I can with making plans to see friends and family. The times come less frequently as the years go, making the moments spent together that much more important.
