Cor heard whispering, and headed in that direction. He found the two boys huddled together in an alcove off of one of the main passages.

“Prince Noctis, Ignis. Everything alright?”

Noctis squeaked and clutched something to his chest. 

“Marshal.” Ignis turned around and adjusted his glasses, a nervous tick Cor had noticed the boy picked up recently. 

Cor knew the boys could be lonely, even Gladio had Iris to look after, but Ignis’ uncle had sent him here to serve Noctis alone. He had hoped Ignis would be a good influence and keep Noctis out of mischief. Apparently he had underestimated Noctis’ influence.

“What are you hiding, Noctis?” Cor gave Noctis an even look. It wouldn't be the first time Noctis had tried to sneak an animal into the Citadel.

“Uncle Cor!” Noctis whined, curling his body around what he was hiding. “I found him wandering around, lost! I just wanted to make sure he wasn’t hurt. Are you sure I can’t keep him?”

Cor sighed and shook his head.

Ignis shifted. “I was just about to arrange to contact the animal shelter. It has no collar, but they’ll be able to see if it’s microchipped.”

At that moment, a black head popped out from Noctis’ jacket, where he was being kept. The ears twitched in his direction as a very familiar cat wriggled out of Noctis’ hold.

Cor repressed a sigh, and plucked the cat from Noctis’ shoulder before he could jump. “I’ll see that he finds a good home. Now, I’m sure you both have lessons you’re late for.”

“Of course, Marshal.” Ignis steered Noctis away as Noctis looked sadly at the cat.

Cor waited until they were out of sight, and waited some more just to be safe. “What were you thinking, just wandering the Citadel like that? And letting yourself get caught by the prince?”

The only response was a dismissive ear flick.

Cor snorted. “Next time, I will let them take you to the animal shelter.”

The cat’s ears went flat against his skull and his tail thrashed.

“Don’t give me that look, you know better.” Cor scratched his head until the ears relaxed, and carried the cat back to his office. 

The cat curled up on his couch, sleeping as Cor finished paperwork. A couple hours later, there was a rush of air, and his couch was occupied by a sleeping glaive.

Nyx yawned, and stretched as he woke up, then rolled over to eye Cor. “You wouldn’t really let them take me to shelter, would you?”

Cor didn’t look up from his paperwork.

“Cor, come on,” Nyx whined. 

“You know better than to let yourself get caught,” Cor said again.

Nyx buried his face in the couch. “I know, but they just looked so lonely.”

Cor sighed and stood up from his desk to lean on the arm of his couch. He ran his fingers through Nyx’s hair until Nyx lifted his head to look at him. “Just don’t get caught.”

Nyx smirked and pushed himself up to kiss Cor, who smiled into the kiss.

The air was thick with tension as they all filed into the briefing room, Calanthe’s eyes hard and unwavering as usual as she waited for us. Vesemir was standing at the window, back to them all but Geralt could see his Chief’s eyes in the glass and it set him on edge.

Eskel pushed past him and dropped into the only free chair, knowing full well Geralt would take his usual spot in the corner.

“Vesemir, if you would.” Calanthe gestured as she began to look at them all.

Vesemir nodded and with a simple flick of his hand Yrden flickered across all windows and doors, followed by Quen. Geralt felt his hackles rise, the last time Vesemir did this on a briefing shit went down and Lambert nearly put a hole in the wall in his rage.

“The mission I am about to brief you in will be different, firstly we are getting a recruit for this only, borrowed from Sigmond for the duration…”

Lambert slammed his fist on the table in fury, snarl ripping from his throat. “The last fucking time we had a new recruit we almost tied, Kitty nearly lost his eye and… and…”

All eyes shot to Geralt who had tensed, his hands grasping the daggers at his chest with a knuckle-white grip. The last time they had a borrowed recruit was over a year ago and the fuckers incompetence caused one of the worst moments of Geralt’s life. Most nights he could still feel the fire at his back, small hands shoving him hard out the window as the building exploded… he could still hear the sickening cracks of bone, the wide terrified eyes of his Buttercup before being engulfing in the crumbling building and fire.

And all he could think of Jaskier watching his face twist in horror as his mask broke and fell away.

It took his brothers and Yen to not murder Marx; it took Ciri crying into his chest to even stay.

That was the last time he allowed anyone close, allowed anyone to see his face at all.

“We lost Buttercup.” Eskel uttered dark after a beat of uncomfortable silence when he realised Geralt would not, could not speak.

“I am aware what happened but this one was trained by Captain Pankratz.” Calanthe stated as she pulled up a file, showing one Essie ‘Little Eye’ Daven. Specialist in infiltration, hacking and language much like Julek was and Geralt knew without a doubt that the woman would be exactly as good as her file reads. He had met her once, long ago when Jaskier and he first met. She was competent, well trained and very much a beloved Sister of Julek.

Swallowing Geralt tilted his head forward. “Why is Little Eye joining us?”

Dark eyes locked onto him but it was Vesemir’s sudden appearance at his side that set the hairs on the back of Geralt’s neck standing up. There was tension around his eyes, mouth turned down in a grim expression.

“This was taken two days ago in one of Nilfgaard’s bunkers in Tir Torchair.” Calanthe stated soft, very much unlike her and it drew Geralt’s eyes away from Vesemir to the image now on the screen.

It was blurry, shot through a drone or satellite but his breath hitched as he saw the familiar man before him. There was no way to mistake Jaskier, he had spent far too long watching him and in the mans presence well before they became lovers. Though the image was grainy, those blue eyes stood out from the dark bruises, piercing and very much alive.

“What the fuck!” Geralt snarled fury the likes he hadn’t felt in an age burning under his skin like Igni.

Normilise Asheera gathering Shadowheart's left over hair from a brush or something and fashioning it into a wig to put on a particularly Shadowheart coded cat they have and acting out different moments in their lives and adventure.

I do like the idea of Asheera doing this and Shadowheart wondering why the fuck Asheera has these random things she's said memorized lmao. Asheera is very normal about her, I guess.

This also implies a world where Shadowheart says shit like, "Is that blood...? No." Shadowheart walking inside the cottage after a long day, setting her mucked up boots aside and commenting that they've seen everything.

Random thought, which of the four Chocobros would hide a cat/dog in their room and how long would they be succesful?

Gladio, Prompto, and Noct would all do that, Ignis technically would but he wouldn't bother with the hiding part so he doesn't count.

Gladio doesn't last a day because he has a nosy baby sister who wants to pet the Puppy/Kitty.

Prompto would last- honestly the longest. Weeks at least. Because his parents are never around that we know of in canon and he's already hidden a puppy in his house once *canonically* (when he was taking care of Pryna/Chibi). It would definitely be a puppy.

Noctis would *attempt*, around the time he was living in an apartment and not the Citadel, and it would be a cat. He would make it maybe 2 days at most before Ignis was onto him. *However*, Noctis would likely be able to bribe Ignis into keeping the secret because Ignis is a sucker for making Noctis happy and he would see it as a good chance for Noctis to exercise responsibility. Thus, no one else in the citadel knows about the cat for *months*, until like- Noctis got caught taking his pet to the vet and it was all over social media in the span of 10 minutes.

I read your post and i agree with you so much!! EN did jamil so dirty and just the few changes they made to his lines flipped the entire dynamic between him and kalim and basically completely erased how tragic and difficult their situation is, and portrayed jamil as basically just someone throwing a fit over something easily changeable when it isn't. I play on JP so I was so surprised to see the changes EN made, it sucked seeing so many ppl hate my fav

oh nooo yeah if both riddle and jamil are in the athena cabin i have no clue who'd become the head counselor... this is so hard, if only we could have more than one :(. Kalim'd def be in a different cabin at least, but just him being around camp would make it so much harder for jamil to be himself, it hurts my heart. there are so many ways you can write this and it all has so much angst potential. on the other hand you're so right abt the missed leo nico friendship bc i always intuitively felt they could've be good friends without knowing why, but your analysis puts everything into words and makes me even sadder we had such a missed opportunity... like cmon rick....

I love your ideas abt the outfits I think they fit super well!! if i get around to doodling the characters in a twst au i'd like to reference your ideas if that's okay with you! They'd both probably attempt to wear the uniforms as a full set in the beginning then decide it's way too much of a hassle/feels too stiff (totally not an excuse to want to draw them in the full outfit), then begin modifying things so it felt more like themselves, though at least I think they both would like the ignihyde uniforms better than the other dorms, igni's seems more casual and practical than the other ones imo. for some reason i feel like the savanaclaw colours would look good on leo, i just picture yellow being a nice colour on him - but leo in savanaclaw would just be like him stuck with a ton of jocks feeling confused why he's even there lool

also imagine leo meeting ortho, he'd be so fascinated that something like ortho was possible and be inspired to make a robot of his own (twst festus origin story?) idk if there's a robotics club but i could see that being leo's club of choice, nico maybe board games... which means he'd meet idia and azul omg, what do you think?

sorry it took me a bit a longer to answer this time. i haven't!! i don't make OCs super often in general, i don't even really have one for twst haha, but i love seeing all the creativity other people put into their OCs.

yeah exactly!! i do keep up with the JP main story updates and have read most of the JP events through fan translations, but i started by playing on EN. and i feel really lucky that i recognized the words for master and servant and could tell they were mistranslating some things, because i can imagine that otherwise i would've come out of it hating jamil for "betraying" kalim too. instead i loved him and was a little annoyed with kalim until book 5 showed more of his growth. i don't ship jamil and kalim but i do love both of them and it's sad that the complexity of their dynamic got watered down so much... i will note, though, that the app is rated E10+ on the google play store and 4+ on the iOS app store, so my guess is that higher-ups at disney thought the actual story wasn't kid-friendly enough.

something else to keep in mind with athena kids that i actually sort of forgot about until recently, is that they're all claimed from birth and therefore are pursued by monsters from birth :( and then also the fact that athena is a virgin goddess who just sort of gives babies to people who might not have been prepared to have one... i bet that would make things so much rougher for riddle and jamil. some other ideas i had are that if jamil's parent was a minor god, it could be nemesis (goddess of revenge) or terpsichore (muse of dance). and for kalim, if his parent was an olympian it would be either dionysus or apollo and if it was a minor god it'd be tyche (goddess of luck and fortune). like you said, there's so many different ways i could see their story going in an AU like this and they'd all be so angsty.

if you wanna see more analysis on how nico and leo fit together there's some stuff i've reblogged from others in my valdangelo tag! not all of it is necessarily romantic, i just basically use that for anything about the two of them--and a lot of the reasons why people like the ship are reasons why they'd work platonically as well. but yeah one of my biggest criticisms of HoO is how even though i like all the new characters for the most part, i feel like their relationships to each other were largely defined by romance (and i don't just mean the actual couples, but also the frank-hazel-leo love triangle for example) and a lot of potential was missed because of that!

oh yeah go for it!! feel free to use pretty much any of these ideas we've been brainstorming as basis for your own headcanons and stuff, i don't mind at all. and like i've been saying, if you did draw anything for this AU i'd love to see it. i can definitely see that about leo and nico both trying on the full uniform and then quickly deciding not to bother with it anymore lol. i imagined them both not wearing the tie because i just think nico wouldn't really want to and that leo might not even know how to tie one AFSKJGHDF. do you think leo would add any other accessories or personalization to his school uniform? also, i was thinking, i totally agree that they'd both like the ignihyde uniform, especially nico because it resembles the bulky jackets he normally likes to wear! but i wonder what nico would wear for a dorm uniform if he transferred to ramshackle... according to one of silver's voice lines at least, they canonically don't have one, so maybe he'd just wear, like, a my chemical romance shirt and call that a uniform lol. or keep his ignihyde uniform and confuse everyone.

omg, i love the thought of leo meeting ortho and being inspired to make festus because of him. he'd definitely be so fascinated by everything ortho could do. as for the clubs, i saved this excellent post about NRC's clubs for reference a while back, and since no other existing clubs were mentioned in either of the camp vargas events, i assume that that's all of them. but afaik there's nothing that says leo couldn't start a robotics club, and i'm sure there'd be people willing to join! out of the existing clubs i can totally see nico being in the board game club, i think that'd be a lot of fun for him.

since @stxrrbright was curious about sorcerer cat Noctis here is some lore about him...

Noctis & Ignis are talented sorcerers in this verse, Noctis soon discovered he was able to understand the thoughts of animals; especially cats. He ended up finding a spell that allows him to transform into a cat, once in this form he is able to talk much more easily to animals.

Ignis initially thought that he was stray cat when he first came back after using the spell, until he transformed back into human form. He finds him quite endearing as a cat though he has put a collar on him when he goes off on little intrepid kitty adventures, it's quite easy to pass him off as a familiar in that form.

It's not uncommon to find him with a bunch of stray cats, or napping in the sun somewhere; he also is amicable to pets sometimes but don't touch his belly 😂

Ahhhhh YAY thank you so much for sending me an ask! I'm excited!!

1) Are you a megane IRL?

Sort of?? I'd always wanted glasses and got my wish a few years ago! I'm a bit farsighted (objects turn blurry once they get a few inches close to my face) so I typically only wear glasses when I am focusing on screens (such as my computer monitor, TV or phone), otherwise I don't need them and can see quite well. But does this classify me as an Official Megane™? I guess so, since there is usually a screen involved in my day to day life. 😂

2) Do you enjoy other FF games, or just XV?

While XV is my favourite for a majority of reasons, I've played and enjoyed quite a few other FF games over the years! I especially love 6, 7 and 9. My favourite RPG series are actually non-FF though!

3) Do you prefer the Ep Ignis ending, or the main ending to their story?

I assume you mean the "Verse 2" ending of Episode Ignis when you say the Episode Ignis ending - and the answer is… I like both of them, but ultimately I prefer the main ending of the game. I love a good tragedy (as much as it makes my heart hurt!!) and there is beauty in it through the tears. However, I am also not opposed to the idea of "happy, everyone lives" AUs, which Verse 2 delivers quite nicely, so I can enjoy it purely in a "what if" scenario.

4) Who do you ship Ignis with the most, if at all?

Prompto of course!! The Promnis pairing has had me in a chokehold since the game first came out and it's still going strong. It's the main pairing that I write (ha… writing.. what's that…?? 💦💦) and just the mere mention of it evokes strong emotions in me to this day. I won't write an essay here, but I do think they are perfect for each other in every way.

5) What's your favorite color?

Purple! My phone is purple, my bedspread is purple, my childhood room was purple, my hair has been dyed purple multiple times…. if I could have everything be purple, it would be. It's such a happy colour.

6) Has anything come out recently you really enjoyed?

Video game-wise, there have been SO many. My favourite game of all time is Super Mario RPG for the SNES, and when the remake for the Switch was announced I actually cried watching the trailer. Playing it was absolute perfection and I couldn't have asked for anything more! More recently though, I played through Sea of Stars (AMAZING GAME I loved the heck out of it) and just finished Little Kitty Big City, which was a super cute delight!

Some fanart from FFXV, in which Prompto and Ignis were depicted as adorable little naked chibis with teeny tiny dongs. They weren't doing anything sexual or graphic, but oh my god penises. Hide your eyes.

Yuri on Ice gifset of all the asses lovingly depicted in animation on the show. Le gasp.

A cat with several different kittens (fosters) whom he took to like his own. Oh no, a cat cuddling other cats. Obviously sensitive material.

A photoshopped photo set of stills from the live-action Ghost in the Shell movie, reimagined with (I think) Rinko Kikuchi as Kusanagi instead of Scarlett Johanssen. One of the images was of the upper torso of the robot body, with the outer skin transparent so that the inner workings were visible. Scandalous! To other robots, I guess.

I was allowed to appeal the photos of my own cat, but not any of the others. Love to see the algorithm functioning as it should, I guess, protecting delicate sensibilities from a popular skating anime and cute cuddly kitties.
