Today I have yet another example of "There is ALWAYS something new to discover"!
I've been knitting for at least 15 years, and over the past couple of years have been exploring more cast-ons and bind-offs if my project is more than just a basic stockinette or garter stitch. I only recently learned to space out my stitches with long-tail cast on to end up with more stretch and now I've finally seen a wonderful solution to "how to figure out how long of a tail to start with"!
Instead of using a "tail", use another strand of yarn completely. If you have multiple skeins of the same color that's easy enough and if you only have one, use both ends. This is going to be an absolute game-changer for me, I had been avoiding any cast-ons using a long tail because I didn't want to end up with several inches of yarn dangling and tangling in my project during the fiddly first couple of rows or, even worse, having a project with a lot of stitches and running out of tail yarn before finishing the row!

Knitting hack: when I only have to do a set of instructions every other round, I get out a spare stitch marker. During the “active” round it sits in front of me on the table, reminding me to do the increases. When I hit the end of the round, I slip it on the needle. No stitch marker friend? No increases. And when I get back to it, I slip it off again.

I love a good shortcut - rather than wasting time unravelling the granny square (right) and making it back into a ball to then knit something (left), why not just knit straight from the abandoned piece?

techniques i use in c2c crochet (and all other applicable crochet scenarios, really) people might find useful i can post tutorials on as i go
butterfly bobbins - you do not need cardboard or plastic bobbin winders to make bobbins you can just wind yarn in such a way it forms a bobbin by itself for $0 (and with 0 tiny fiddly things you will inevitably lose somewhere)
magic knot - join yarn to keep working in such a way that a) will not come undone and b) does not require any weaving of ends
there is no shorthand official name (as far as i know) but "joining a new colour in a way that does not leave an end you have to weave in later". call it lazy join or something idk
obviously you can just. look up how to do those (except the last one bc i don't know what - if anything - it's called or if it's just something i do because i will avoid weaving at all costs) but if anybody wants and would find it useful i can just take photos of the process next time i do it in this blanket and then post it like that one time i did "how to wind a centre-pull ball" or "doing surgery on a c2c blanket to replace a square"

Hello, so I just bought a yarn winder and I’m LOVING IT so I’m going through my entire yarn stash to wind them into cakes. However, I always prefer the center pull and was annoyed when the finished cakes would easily start coming undone when I dropped it (or when my cat stole it from me). Therefore, I have created something either really smart or overly complicated for a small problem that I could just learn to deal with-
So basically what I did was before winding the yarn, I put a small strip of cardstock and tied it to the shaft thingy with a coiled hair tie cut in half (for easy removal). Then I’ll wind the yarn and when I’m done, I just tape the two ends of the cardstock together so it makes a band around the yarn and then cut two slits for both ends of yarn. For the yarn that I have labels for, I write the name and hook/needle size on the paper.
The great thing is that (because I like the center pull and it doesn’t work with this method) I can just cut the band off when I need the yarn and remake the cake. The cake will get messed up when I use it anyways so may as well just remake the labels.
And here’s what it looks like:

And when it’s set up:

Garland Cowl by Galzanne Knits.
Made this delightful cowl for a friend's birthday using hand-painted pure mulberry silk by Araucanía Yarns (which appears to be a thing they no longer make?? We won't talk about how long I've had this stashed). The big worsted-weight lace was a lot of fun and worked up quickly once I got my gauge issues sorted out. I'd never worked with silk before! I'm a fan. Learned a new cast on for this, and I turned my bamboo knitting needles and fingers VERY blue, but I sort of like when my crafts stain my hands--it's bright evidence that I'm Out Here Making Things, y'know?

if there was an online bookseller that had a good web interface, a huge selection of ebooks, AND had a way to filter out fucking YA from everything - they would make so much fucking money because it would be from me.
~i don't want to read about some 19 yo witch vampire princess who must marry to unite the kingdoms while at the academy for magical princess assassins fairies!~
I AM NOT THE INTENDED AUDIENCE AND I DON'T WANT THIS IN MY SELECTION OF BOOK RECOMMENDATIONS, THANKS!

I’ve been slowly plugging away at knitting a vest for my sister and it’s finally starting to feel like A Real Garment albeit still very much in progress.

I adore the cables but cabling makes my hands so tired so quickly so this one is going veeeerrrrryyyy slowly. Especially since this is a really dense and wiry yarn. Which is honestly perfect for the pattern but oh, the hand cramps will get me!
I’m making the Outlandish Bodice pattern (it’s free on ravelry!) and using Briggs and Little Regal for the yarn.
My goal is to knit one cable repeat each day until I finish this section.
Supposedly, it will look like this when it’s done
