so, in the manga…

did Vash really have a romantic interest in Meryl?

spoiler alert: Trigun manga, Trigun Maximum

In the case of Meryl, there are several signs she has developed feelings for him. She accepts it and lets Vash be himself.

Mmm with Vash it’s hard to answer…

We see they’re good friends…she can be a bit tough with him but Vash always smiles to her.

I think that’s really sweet and he acts like that with everyone…

BUT

When Zasie kidnapped Meryl, Vash goes to rescue her and yes, that is something he could do for anyone who needs his help…but in Trigun Maximum chapter 28 when Vash suffers remembering all July’s tragedy…he thinks about Meryl in danger and keeps going.

And when he finally finds her in chapter 29, the worry and fear in his face is undeniable.

Then, there’s something really interesting FOR HIM happening after that.

Meryl witnesses July’s tragedy in a memory…and then she begins to be afraid every time she sees Vash in his angel form.

After seeing her so frightened, Vash says he feels like crying…

That could have separate them…

BUT

Vash receives a revolver from Meryl, being really surprised that she still wants to look after him, and smiles…relieved.

Meryl continues by his side, even after seeing his scariest power…and cares about him no matter the circumstances.

If we look for a romantic relationship…I think this is more complicated than that.

Oxford Languages defines romance as a feeling of excitement and mystery associated with love.

We can’t say Vash is excited or nervous about Meryl…All we see is Vash nervous about Meryl crying most likely because he doesn’t know what to do, but that’s all (and that’s really cute).

Instead of that, Vash could be more oriented to “love” instead of “romance”.

But for someone like him, who is 150 years old, full of sorrows and regrets…what does “love” mean?

Cambridge Dictionary says:

Love is used to describe all strong feelings of closeness and care between two people.

After all they have been though together, they developed really strong feelings for each other, especially closeness and care.

And there is this moment, one of the most precious to me in this relationship.

Almost at the end, Vash is going to confront Knives but he makes a promise to Meryl before he leaves.

(Yes, we know he was a bit late but remember he was really injured, he had to heal at human speed at that time…but he was already on his way when he was found again).

He could have made promises many other times in his life but here he doesn’t only says he will return. He, who never asks nothing from anyone, asks her to wait for him.

Ok yes, he may be capable of love all humans…but he has always been a lonely wolf. He has friends, but he always travels alone.

It is until he meets Wolfwood and Meryl that he wants to stay with someone.

And Meryl is the one Vash wants to wait for his return.

Reader, Murderer and Villain

Virgil is famous on YouTube for his voice acting. He reads conspiracy theories and horror stories with voices representing the characters. After moving in with Roman he decided to let his fans choose their next stories, that's how he started to also voice fanfictions

Villain is his deepest public voice (not the deepest he can go tho). People react really strongly to it. Some hate it at first but overall think it's hot. Can leave you tongue-tied

Murderer is not quite as deep and smooth as the Villain a little more hoarsely, inspired by old school vampires but not as comedically over the top. Fans pick up on it, so it can ruin story plot if he's not careful

Reader is not that different from Virgil's normal voice. A little bit lower, a little bit smoother. Sounds a lot like radio host. Someone says it's mysterious and really gives that aesthetic to all the stories

SS camp counselor slasher film au

The boys are hired to be camp counselors but they don’t realize this summer is going to be the most eventful summer of their lives. Cue cheesy camp slasher film tropes.

Patton Lovett: Patton is the camp counselor that is way too happy to be there. He makes sure everyone is okay and everyone participates. He’s chipper and all around a very nice guy. Basically your good fun dad away from home. However when things go south he’s absolutely lost. He’s scared, confused and most of all he’s worried about all the campers. He thinks he can save them all (unfortunately).

Logan Martin: He’s only here for credits in school (college). He makes sure everything is on track, everyone is accounted for, everyone is following the rules. He also makes sure to make sure there’s some form of educational activity. He’s a bit awkward with the campers but he does have his fans. When things go south Logan is thrown off his game for only a little bit before he goes into crisis control mode. He takes every step possible to save whoever he can, and to prevent as much disaster as he can.

Roman Princeton: He’s probably the most liked camp counselor. He’s in Charge of all creative activities and has a hand in some of the physical activities. He’s the one that leads everyone during campfire gatherings with songs. When things go south he springs into action, taking the role of hero and he would lay his life down for his friends and these kids. However he soon has to be reigned back because you cannot save everyone in this scenario.

Virgil Petrov: He’s not the most favorite camp counselor because on the outside, he’s an intimidating and quite bad boy. Really he’s just not wanting to socialize much. However he is a good camp counselor, entertaining the campers with spooky ghost stories, taking them aside when they want to be alone and sneaking some of the loneliest kids snacks. When things go south he panics. Fight or flight kicks in and he becomes a fierce protector of these campers and he is fast, can easily slip into tight spaces and he can hide himself and others quite well. He’s the ultimate survivor in a sense.

Janus Lokir: He’s only here because he has to. Why? He won’t say. He just has to. He’s one of the least liked councilors. He doesn’t really like children, he carries a flask with some weird smelling grape juice on him everywhere he goes and he lies. Like, a lot. Plus things have gone missing around the camp and Janus swears he hasn’t seen them. Odd. However he could be leagues worse. He actually knows how to care for children in some capacity which is much more than another councilor. And yes he may be a bit…bitchy he isn’t a monster. When things go south he’s suspect number two, or at least expected to betray everyone. And he did think about it, but unfortunately he ended up hiding in a cabin with a small flock of children who all wet themselves, so he thinks as useless as these children are he can’t exactly abandon them. He isn’t a monster after all. It won’t stop him from sipping his “juice” though.

Remus Princeton: No one knows why the Camp allowed Remus to be there. Some say it’s because Roman works there. Others say it’s because he has to do community service for legal reasons. Either way, he’s the least liked councilor there. He once bit a rabid raccoon and somehow didn’t get sick. He regularly eats from the garbage cans and carries sharp pointy knives on him. One camper even saw Remus start a fire on the lake! Needless to say he is suspect number one. So imagine everyone’s surprise when Remus is not the killer when things go south. While everyone is panicking, Remus is having the time of his life. And wait…where did the chainsaw go?

EXTRAS

Dr. Emile Picani: He’s the camp’s resident doctor and therapist (since the camp was too cheap to hire one of each). Picani knows above basic first aid and helps the campers that need it mentally. He’s known to be a beloved member of the camp by staff and campers alike. However as much as he likes this stint, he’s deciding to quit after this year. Why? Because defending himself and others from a Killer was not part of the job description. He’s barricaded himself in his medical cabin and has wounded and panicked people in his care. He can take care of them for the moment but for how long?

Remy Santos: He was hired as a custodian. Quite frankly, he hates it. But he needs the money. He doesn’t like doing his job and will often be found taking naps around camp. He’ll even fake an illness just to stay in the medical cabin with his BFF Emile. However when things went south, he wants nothing more than to take a nap. But he can’t. And unfortunately his job is more important than he realized. As the custodian he knows where certain things are and he has the keys to all the buildings on the campsite, especially to the maintenance shed, where he could get parts to get the emergency radio in the Medical cabin going. So downing possibly his last coffee he heads out there, totally alone. He should have just picked up that job at Starbucks.

TRIGUN STAMPEDE | E12 HIGH NOON AT JULY

Thinkinggg about... Diego and Klaus again tonight and how Diego is the only sibling who stuck by him during the depths of Klaus' struggle with addiction, and how we can probably also assume that he's the one responsible for making Klaus go to rehab when not court-ordered.

They're also arguably the closest after Ben's death, given how much Diego seems to know about Klaus, how easily they talk to each other, and how Klaus regularly drifts to Diego when he needs something. I think Klaus saw Diego as a safety net, and Diego provided, because of course he can't not answer a call for help.

So. Anyway, this is a messy word dump, but what I'm trying to get at is that I think it's fascinating at heartbreaking how despite Diego being the closest bystander to Klaus' addiction (second only to Ben who has no choice being dead and all)... that despite that, despite likely seeing Klaus at some of his lowest of lows, Diego just doesn't understand addiction.

Diego is very headstrong. He deals with his trauma with adrenaline, with vigilante work, with the... self-harm of trying to turn himself in an impenetrable wall and forcing himself to live in the mold Reginald made for all of them (although surely Diego tells himself that being a vigilante in his own way is a "fuck you" to their dad, that he's saving people so they don't have to suffer like they did; but it is an excuse for being stuck in a lifestyle, for not being able to properly assimilate to civilian life). He!!! Honestly has his own addictions, they just come in the form of danger and heroism, not pills and alcohol. But he doesn't get that!!! He understands Klaus can't "just quit" but he doesn't understand why it's so hard for him to find the motivation, or why it's so easy for him to slip back into addiction even after going to rehab and getting sober.

I am not explaining the nuances of my thoughts about this topic very well, but I am having emotions about it. Diego loves his brother so much, and I think that they actually work really well together emotionally and in combat, but they're just...??? On such different wavelengths sometimes when it comes to their coping mechanisms.
