The Tangle Spell
An uncrossing, sort of, and a road opener, sort of.
Useful when you have gotten into bad habits, negative self talk, and general negative thought patterns.
First, you will need
Paper and Pen
Several colored ribbons or yarn, one color for each major thought pattern you would like to change
One plain/white cord or yarn
Make a list of the thoughts you would like to change, for example, my list went something like this:
"I hate my body"
"I'm tired all the time"
"I'm lazy"
"I neglect myself"
"I'm jealous"
Choose a colored ribbon or yarn for each of these thoughts. Try to focus on the most negative ones that impact your daily life, though really you may do as many as you like, it just becomes difficult to keep track of.
Make a list of corresponding thoughts you wish to replace the previous ones with. For example, mine were:
"I love my body"
"I am full of energy"
"I am proactive and motivated"
"I take care of myself"
"I am full of love for others"
Now.
Take your ribbons and tie, knot, and tangle them as much as you possibly can. Keep tangling. When you feel like you're done, tie some more. Then after that, knot it up a little more. The more tangled it is, the more work it takes to undo, the more thorough the spell will be. As you do this, whisper in each of these thoughts, over and over as you work until its finished. Focus very hard on tying your negative mindset into each knot.
Immediately move on to the next step. Do not allow your tangled thoughts to sit there unattended.
As you untangle each knot, loudly speak or even sing your new replacement thoughts until each and every one is free and untangled, allow yourself to feel relief as each one is undone. Focus on your progress. Be proud of yourself along the way. And feel the negativity dissapate.
Finally, take each ribbon and tie to your cord like so:
Tumblr media
As you attach each one, tie the corresponding positive thought into each final knot. Place this on your altar or in your bedroom where it will be around you, and allow it to be a reminder of your new mindset.

i bought some craft twine at target. it didn't feel personal enough so i braided a short cord of it to use for a knot spell. bonus is now the knot is less likely to get thrown away woo
i also have a couple of larger cords (from old sweatpants) i use to hold knots that get untied to finalize a specific type of working. i didn't read that's a thing but i made it a thing because it made sense to me. i need more ways to release energy in short bursts that isn't fire and isn't ceremonial and this works for me

Knot spell for protection and healing in the home
Tumblr media
This was inspired by this post about incorporating crystals into knot magic. I followed pretty much everything they wrote about with my own intention, but I'm going to write about what I learned here :)
◇ I used a selenite crystal, which is mainly used for its traits of mental clarity, powerful healing, and removal of negative energy. Mine gave me a strong impression of protection though which is why I chose it.
◇ I used embroidery thread in two different shades of green* and blue. I chose the colors based on their association with color magic
◇ I used the chants: (first knot) "this home protects me" (body of knots) "love is welcome here, hate is banished. Healing is welcome here, negative energy is banished." (Final knot) "this home heals me."
Notes that I think might be helpful:
◇ I think its helpful to say the words with purpose while making each knot. When I started I was just repeating the chant while working on it, but it has a more powerful effect if you move with purpose.
◇ if you're just learning macrame, learn the skill BEFOREHAND and then start the spell. If you try to learn while you're doing the spell it takes your attention away from the magic and can mess with the results.
*I chose green because I associate it with healing and growth. I know it's more widely used for money

I'd like more of Halsin excelling at traditional wood elven hunting methods - he wouldn't really need them, necessarily, as he likely hunts more often using his wildshape, but I feel like it's a skillset he possesses and would make for interesting fic exploration.

Ocean Banishment Knot Spell
"What ever it was that required banishment, be it an illness or some other undesirable situation, a knot charm could be employed by tying knots, as many as there are troubles, or aspects to the trouble, into rope, cord or string, and touch these each to the thing to be banished, or a symbol thereof. The knot charm is then taken to the shore where it is buried at the mark of low water. The operator will then walk away and must not look back or catch sight of the spot for at least twentyfour hours."

really thinking about how well arts & crafts go with witchcraft
Fiber art being used for knot magick, weaving in intention, color magick, glamour wearables, also just making cool pouches or cloths
Resin art charms with sigils, herbs, crystal chips, and whatever else placed inside, also jar molds?? make your own jars?? yes please
Drawing/painting as a manifestation technique, putting color magick pieces up as decor to set the energy of a space, mixing herbs/herb water in with paint.
Like listen as an artist i put so much of myself into my artwork & my crafts. I dont know why I haven't included it in my practice sooner (PS if anyone has anything else to add please do, I want to find more ways to include art in my practice!)

Has anyone ever incorporated knot magic into crocheting or knitting? I've been crocheting and it would be so cool to hear if people incorporate magic into that and are willing to share how.

This spell for a client was inspired by a dream I had. It felt so powerful that I was buzzing with the energy the entire time.

This is my more complicated money spell besides lighting a green candle. I used gold (to have money), green (to get money) and red (to protect the money) thread and braided them, with intention, into a rope to tie the candle together and below is a sigil for financial stability.
Tumblr media
This is the sigil I made. Honestly feel free to use it but I recommend making your own sigil that represents financial stability. The candle I got is a blank green Goya novena candle I found in the international section at Shaw's. I'm using that one because I am planning on like lighting it up whenever I need it
I didn't really use an incantation because I just kept changing it and improvising and sometimes I just use intention instead so if you want to use an incantation just use the purposes of the colored threads as a basis (get money, have money, keep money is a good one)

So!
I decided to make a little post about some of the Cord magic work I have been doing in my practice.
Below I have shown steps of my work in creating a cord for the Goddess Brigid.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here are some steps in point form
(barring all of my personal ritual/spell work)
1) select a number of colored strings the same length. (You will choose based on color/number associations) and lay them along eachother.
2) pinch one end in a steady grip (I pinched one end in-between my ankles. You can also use your toes or a chip clip held by your feet- whatever works honestly.)
3) starting at the top of the length, twist clockwise and as you twist set and imbue your intention for the cord.
While you twist, pinch and run one hand gently from the top down to the end to distribute the tension evenly.
Ensure to not allow the cord to bunch up on itself while twisting.
4) once the full length has been twisted and tension is even across the full cord.
Carefully find the middle of the cord (pinch and hold) and transfer both ends in-between your teeth to free up your hands.
5) starting at the halfed middle- allow the tension to twist the cord into being.
Use both hands one to encourage the twist and another to feed both strands into the twist.
(see video)
6) once you have moved up the length, the cord is now bound.
Seal off the loose ends- maintaining tension.
You can use a simple knot- or you can also use beeswax/ heat depending on how you want to construct your cord.
(disclaimer: always ensure you follow proper fire safety when working with flammable materials)
7) decorate your cord with charms to cap off either end or just finish in a simple knot.
8) congratulations! now your court is finished!
At this point you can use your cord as a spell/ reusable knot work magic cord/ make jewelry with it/ or what I did is to dedicate a cord to a specific deity and use it in spell work with them or hold it during meditations to connect with them.
For the cord dedicated to the Goddess Brigid, I used the corresponding colors-
red for fire and love
Blue for her healing waters and peace
Yellow for illumination and inspiration
Green for new beginnings and growth
(coincidentally all four colors correspond to the elements which increases power additionally)
I also added a natural iron ore deposit chunk on one end as a stone to connect with her.
As well as a Celtic cross to honor the saint version of her when connecting with my ancestors.
Below you will also notice another blue cord that I created for the God Manannán mac lir- complete with a hag stone and a Triskel.
One Source I personally recommend to get you started on your path to learn more about cord and knot work magic is "Cord magic, tapping into the power of string, yarn, twists and knots"
By Brandy Williams (pictured above)
This book has excellent exercises and resources to assist you on understanding the basics and construction of multiple kinds of cords etc.
(Knot magic is one of the oldest forms of magic, most of the examples I focus on are from the included book and from Celtic culture with my own style blended in)
Well that's the end of this post!
I hope I have provided some information that may be useful to some people.
Remember to do your research and practice your craft safely.
If anyone is interested in more Textile, knot, Cord, Weaving and Stitching spell work; let me know and I'll see what I can whip up.
Best of luck! 🪡🍀✨

🧵 Knot Magic (and witches ladder)
Tumblr media
(image credit: Pitt Rivers Museum, University of Oxford.)
Knotting is the original binding spell, the art goes back to Babylonians. Any intentions or force can be controlled by and tied to the magical knots. Focus and intention is the key to make a knot magical, concentrating on every single knot and trapping the magic in them. Materials can include ribbons, cord, robe, metal wire, hair, plant stems, threads, etc. If a knot can be made, the material can be useful. Knot magic can both be used for dark and light magic, common uses include love spells, healing spells, wealth spells, and even weather spells. One can tie a knot to create magic or untie a knot to release magic. Colour magic is used for the cord, red is traditional.
Basic knot spell
Focus on your intentions and goals while holding a (red) ribbon.
Tie a knot.
Keep it in a safe and secure place until you want to release it or not.
Traditional knot spell
This incantation is accompanied by tying 9 knots
By knot of  ONE, the spell’s begun.
By knot of  TWO, it cometh true.
By knot of  THREE, so mote it be.
By knot of  FOUR, power I store.
By knot of  FIVE, the spell’s alive.
By knot of  SIX, this spell I fix.
By knot of  SEVEN, this spell I leaven.
By knot of  EIGHT, it is fate.
By knot of  NINE, what’s done is mine.
Witches Ladder
A witches ladder is much like knot magic, save for the fact that it incorporates decorations, typically in the form of feathers, but can incorporate anything onto it as one pleases such as shells, hag stones, beads, sticks, crystals, keys, flowers, bones, hair, herbs, etc. A witches ladder is a form of talisman one can have in their house or wear. Much like knot magic, it is a versatile tool that can be both used for malevolent and positive purposes.
The first recorded witches ladder was found in Wellington that says “A witches ladder made with hen's feathers. Said to have been used for getting away the milk from neighbour's cows and for causing people's deaths. From an attic in the house of an old woman who died in Wellington.”  The witches ladder was found with an old armchair and six brooms
As you braid or knot the chosen cord, add your materials, typically the traditional knot magic is used here, but no need to do so if one wishes to add more or fewer items to their witches ladder.

Friendship Bracelet for School Stress
School stress is usually one of the three top contenders for my anxiety during the year. Despite that I know that I will do well, the stress still comes and so I decided to come up with a small spell to help with it.
While knowledge of how to make a friendship bracelet is required, this spell can be used for many other ways. You can knit or crochet a bracelet or even a simple pattern like a heart or a bow and make a pin or a patch or even just a section of a scarf or hand warmers. You can braid with ribbon using the colors as well. This spell is very easy to adjust to and is no way restrictive in the methodology.
That being said this is how I do it.
First I choose my colors (for me I chose blue for wisdom, yellow for energy and empowerment).
Then I go and I choose a pattern that I feel would best demonstrate. I chose an open diamond pattern as I'm a fan of Legend of Zelda and the yellow diamonds feel reminiscent to the Triforce of Wisdom. Maybe another time I'll try finding if there's a pattern that's just little triangles around, but this will do for what I'm trying to accomplish.
As I'm making the knots I'm trying to focus my mind on school. I'm not worried about making it all positive or all negative thoughts. Just whatever visualizations that happen to me I will weave it through. If I'm worried I sit with it if I'm happy I sit with it, if it's a goal I don't want, I dismiss it and if its a goal that I want, I sit with it.
Once I'm done there are a few ways that this can be done I can either wait for the planetary hour of Mercury or I can wait until Wednesday for it. Of course that is just my preference if you don't want to do that, disregard the timing.
I create a sigil (since this is for school I decided to go with the sentence structure sigil which is you create a sentence take out all the doubles and vowels and disassemble the letters into shapes and use those shapes accordingly). I make this using blue ink as blue is learning and school is very much a blue color for me, though whatever color you find wise can be used.
My intention is written like this: Energy for Learning and Study.
Once I have the sigil made I go to my altar and I charge it with incense smoke or fire (DO NOT BURN THE PAPER). Then I wrap the paper around the bracelet and stuff it into a black pouch so that the bracelet will soak up the sigils' power.
I prefer to do this at night so I won't take the bracelet out till morning and then I tie the bracelet onto my wrist while saying:
I will be wise with my time, I will work hard and study diligently.
Should there come a day I have no need, the knot will untie and will fall from me.
But until that day, may this bracelet serve to remind me and guide me while I'm learning.
Give me energy to my mind as it focuses on my studies. As I will it be, so it will be.
Wear the bracelet until it falls from you.
(If you decided to crochet a pattern onto your clothes or knit something then you could reuse the object and recharge it until you no longer need it, and then you can pass it off to a friend who may be struggling).
