Sonic Murder Drones AU Masterlist

AU created by me and @cherbearsz with some other inputs from our friends :]

AU Summary: MDAU follows the same basic plot points as Murder Drones just with the Sonic Cast put in for different characters. Sonic, a worker drone, yearns for freedom outside of the bunker and builds a weapon to take out the disassembly drones that have been terrorizing them for as long as he can remember. Nothing goes according to plan and Sonic ends up becoming friends with one of the disassembly drones, Serial Designation C. Having inherited a rogue piece of code called the Absolute Solver, Sonic together with C and eventually R, need to figure out a way to stop Nine from destroying the planet before the Solver completely takes over Sonic’s body.

Rouge headcanons, go!

Oohohohoho yes!!! I love my girl so much and she deserves so much so LETS DO THIS!!!!

(disclaimers: Again like with my Shadow one, I go with the two world theory of Earth and Sonic's planet being different dimensions and have been brought together by chaos energy making the bridge to cross between them very easy. Also, this is mostly inspired and from the future au and fanfic I'm writing where I delve into Rouge's backstory and where she is the main character but hey... THAT'S THE POINT OF HEADCANONS!! mwahahaha let the angst BEGIN)

-Rouge doesn't know her parents are. Her mom was a show-girl at a casino and her dad manipulated her with a lot of empty promises, but quickly proceeded to dump her. Her mom then proceeded to abandon Rouge as a baby with a group of people promising they would take care of her, thinking it would give her a better life than she could offer... it didn't.

-Rouge grew up with said group underground, and they taught her how to fight, stealth and hone in on her abilities. She escaped said group when she was 12 after a lot of things went down (spoilers) and lived the first few months out homeless and stealing things in order to survive.

-A gang of orphan, kid thieves noticed her tenacity of theft and figured they'd take her in as a part of their group. They were the first thing of a family that Rouge had ever known.

-Rouge and the other kids consisted of a cat, (Crystal) dog (Butch) and a pigeon (Simon). They were all themed as a suit of cards due to the fact that they work for a rat who at the time owned Club Rouge.

-Rouge doesn't own Club Rouge, she just lives there. It's a coincidence that she happens to share the same name with it.

-Crystal is the diamond and the oldest and the leader/planner, Butch club and was the brute strength of the group. Simon was spade and was the tech/guy in the chair. Rouge is of course became the heart and was the cute/flirty distraction while everyone else to stole in the background. They taught her a lot about life, and she really loved them.

-The rat who they worked for took them in cause he felt bad for them. He wasn't a necessarily a good person, but cared for them in his own way. While they were a gang, they lived above the casino in a secret room.

-The group split up going their separate ways due to disagreements and changes of leadership with Club Rouge. It left Rouge feeling very abandoned and angry. She is still allowed to live at the club, and uses it as a hideout and a secret gem stash. She has not seen her old gang since.

-Rouge is uncannily able to sense chaos energy and emeralds as naturally as super speed is to Sonic. She is and has always been drawn to chaos energy.

-It is so natural to her that she thinks its normal and everyone else is just as sensitive to chaos energy as she is. Knuckles figured she must have spent the majority of her life in intense meditation like he did in order to have such a mastery over it. It made him very angry and shook to find out that she had in fact not done that. 😂

-Her ability to sense chaos energy so well is partially what leads her to the Master Emerald and Knuckles and then also Shadow.

-Rouge was "hired" by GUN because she got caught trying to steal something from them. GUN recognizing her abilities figured that hey! She's also an alien like these other little weirdos invading our planet, and is used to the same chaos shenanigans that was being messed with on the Ark so it's probably safest to send her into the Ark instead of us humans! Under threat of course...

-Rouge expects everyone to abandon and mistrust her regardless of the help she gives... so she puts a mask on pretending that she doesn't really care. She cares a lot.

-Rouge is actually an incredibly loyal person but due to life events she doesn't allow herself to trust easily, and she has so much love to give... but she's never really been given much opportunity or people to love.

-Shadow was the first person who immediately saw right through her facade and called her out for who she actually was, which shook her to say the least.

-Rouge is so desperate to help Shadow because maybe in a way it can give her hope that if he can find happiness, then maybe she can too.

-Rouge is the only other person alive who knows how to take off Shadow's inhibitors.

-Rouge compensates for deep feelings of worthlessness with being obsessed with "precious" things like gems and treasure. But don't be fooled, she does also genuinely love how beautiful they are.

-Rouge is smart enough and has the chemical and mechanical knowledge to make bombs and grenades. You could say that she's on the same level as Tails, but she doesn't take her genius as seriously. She can't risk being seen as an actual threat and would rather mislead and manipulate in order to get herself out of things.

And once again that's all I can think of at the moment, but man, I just love Rouge so much. She's such a fascinating and underrated character that I need to see more of in the future. There's a lot of depth and pain there underneath the flirty, uncaring nonchalant exterior and I want to see it explored more, especially with her interactions with Team Dark, and everyone else, just to help flesh out further who she is as a person.

Silver is the ONLY Sober One

Krissie: 3/23/2022 I am mainly making this doc to write down quick random ideas as they come to me.  Especially since I always have my phone on me so I can add to it. So enjoy typos and random words that even I will probably spend a good 30 minutes trying to figure out what the hell my fingers ment. 

Silver felt like vomiting. Was it the greasy food? The soda he drank? Silver wished. He pouted as he looked at Sonic. 

“No.” He said flatly trying to keep from spilling the greasy mushroom pizza he had eaten earlier. Though if he did, he was already planning on spraying Sonic or Rouge with it. 

“Oh come!” Rouge piped up after a sip of whatever wine she was drinking. “Why not? You and Amy get along so well.” 

Silver rolled his eyes. “So do Amy and Knuckles,” Silver pointed at the red echidna next to her. “And I don’t see you two trying to make him date her.” 

Rouge and Sonic stared at Silver. Silver felt trapped. He was the only sober one playing cards. All he wanted to do was play cards instead it turned into the “Let’s try to get Silver to date Amy” game.

“That’s different,” Rouge started.

Silver arched an eyebrow. “I don’t see how it is.”

“Simple,” Sonic stated, “Knuckles isn’t attracted to Amy.” 

“Neither am I,” Silver nearly growled. “But it’s not stopping either of you, is it?”

Knuckles tilted his head. “You have an angry setting?”

Silver slammed his head onto the table. Why can’t we just play cards?

The door to the garage opened and Shadow walked up to the table where everyone was sat. “What are you doing?” He glared in his usual tone. 

“Playing cards.” Rouge looked up from another sip of wine. 

“And trying to get Silver to date Amy.” Sonic blurted.

Shadow arched an eyebrow. “Is.. he drunk?” he muttered.

“Very…” Silver groaned. 

“And Silver has an angry setting!” Knuckles laughed. He turned to stare at Silver with his face on the table. “Though I think he’s resetting now.”

Shadow stared at Knuckles and then at Rouge with a look that said, “This is who you love, huh?”

Rouge merely smiled and nodded. 

“Alright,” Shadow sighed. “Stop messing with Silver. He’s levietaging things in the garage. And I’m trying to work on my bike.”

“Sorry Shadow…” Silver muttered into the table. 

“If I have to come back up here, I’m confiscating him.” Shadow warned as he walked back to the garage. 

“Confiscate?” Sonic laughed. “Pfft. What is this, school? And what does that make Silver?”

Knuckles shrugged, “Weed?” 

Sonic cackled as Knuckles joined him in the laughing fit. 

Silver turned his head to the side so he could look up at the bat. Once her teal eyes made contact with his golden ones, he darted his eyes to gesture at the two drunk men and then back at her. “You going to stop them?” being his silent question.

Rouge smiled as she fondly looked at Knuckles. She shook her head. 

Silver sighed. Of course, she wouldn’t put a damper on their parade. Silver closed his eyes and took in several breaths. If Shadow had to come back up here to remind him NOT to levitate the things in his garage again, it wouldn’t end well for him. Silver did not need, nor want, another one of Shadow’s roundhouse kicks to the head. Once was enough, thank you very much. Luckily, or unluckily, Silver had erased that timeline, so only he remembered it. That and the whole, he tried to kill Sonic thing. Silver counted his blessings that no one remembered that timeline. It sucked anyway.

“But seriously,” Rouge tapped Silver on the shoulder. “Why not Amy?”

“UGH…” Silver sat up, rubbing his hands down his face in annoyance. “She’s a great friend. Yes, she’s pretty. But I’m not attracted to her.” 

“Are you sure?” Sonic tilted his head. “Because you look at her differently than you do others.”

Silver let out several sounds, but no words would come to him. He pouted as he looked at Sonic. “I do not.” Silver crossed his arms.

Knuckles burst into another fit of laughter. “You sure you don’t have a crush on Amy at least?” 

Silver contemplated throwing the red echidna out the window. Though Rouge would kick his butt for it. He could vomit on him. But he wasn’t a pusher like Sonic or Rouge. If Silver had to vomit, he would rather vomit on one of the pushers.

[Review] Sonic Battle (GBA)

Easily the best Sonic-themed arena fighter/RPG on the GBA.

As one of the more notable and novel spinoffs in the Sonic series I was interested to play Battle. 1996's Sonic the Fighters was a Virtua Fighter-style traditional 3D fighting game [which I bounced off hard], whereas in 2003 Sonic Team looked to Capcom's Power Stone for a more free-roaming arena fighter with a simple control scheme. The main surprise for me with this one though was its heavy story focus.

Sonic is chilling out in Emerald City, you know that place that he's always lived in with all his friends, that city that has existed before and will continue to exist. Anyway he meets some robot who he names Emerl, a learning machine that takes on the traits of others. Emerl bounces between his friends, getting into trouble with Eggman and growing all the way. Yada yada yada, ancient superweapon, the destruction of the planet, etc etc. It's a plot rich with incident, full of roadblocks and cheap excuses for fights, where the strength is in the little character moments along the way.

Some characters come off better than others. Emerl has a fun dynamic with Knuckles while he still has a childlike mindset, and there are nice bits with Cream and Rouge. Shadow really shines as Emerl's final mentor and arguably the heart of the whole story despite his scarce screentime, managing to not come off as an utterly boring character to me for the first time ever (now granted I haven't played his game or SA2). Amy on the other hand is at the peak of her "weirdo stalker" characterisation that it seems she was stuck in for, what, at least 15 years? The way she's written is godawful, a real embarrassment. So it's highs and lows, aka your typical Sonic product.

Another high is the art design. The Sonic Advance-style sprites have a lot of personality and animation to them, which helps convey the fight moves. The map is lovely isometric pixel art, while battles play out in little arenas modelled in full 3D with some nice varied textures. Sure the layouts are very simple, with just two levels of elevation and mostly cube-shaped platforms around but they manage some variety within that. You'll see the character portraits a lot during dialogue, so luckily they're fantastic, with a distinctive style that pops despite some slight GBA crunchiness.

The events play out over the course of eight character-centric plotlines that follow each other chronologically. There's a fair bit of repetition and what often feels like padding to stretch this into an 8-hour game over the course of all the campaigns. Don't expect any to tell a complete story, but each shapes Emerl in some way. This plays into the game design too, as Emerl is a customisable character. You'll play as him a bit less than half the time, so it's important to update his moveset with new actions won from your battles. Unfortunately Emerl's skill points increase slowly, and new moves are randomly dropped, to encourage link cable trading and grinding on optional battles or story replays. With the uneven difficulty this can create some unpleasant scenarios, but I got by using emulator features and some potent cheese strats.

So we come to the battle gameplay. I really like the platform fighter-esque simplicity of the control scheme, with complexity arising from the free movement in the arenas and strategising with your special moves. Aside from basic attacks, air attacks, and two directional strong attacks, which aren't hugely different between characters, you have your special moves on R. Each time you spawn in, you pick between projectile, power, and trap for your specials: one for grounded use, one for air use, and one that your character will automatically block against for the duration of that life. In this way you can choose your favourite variation, or react to an opponent's style or their guard choice.

It's an ingenious little system, but the battling is let down by ruthless AI and a dodgy camera. Like in a belt-scrolling beat-em-up, depth perception can be an issue as you often whiff attacks if you're not lined up just right, and opponents can escape offscreen. Try to engage them with normal attacks and you (or at least I) will be relentlessly countered and full-comboed to oblivion. Luckily, there are many ways to manipulate the engine and your foes, and finding the right one becomes a new kind of gameplay, if not the intended way to play.

For example, Rouge can maintain repeated airdrop combos, and with the right timing and spacing other characters can infinitely knock an opponent into a wall with a strong attack, then hit them again on the rebound. Emerl's basic ground shot can easily be repeated on any enemy even if they are blocking shots for cheap kills. The L button briefly blocks, then turns into a heal that also charges a special meter which when full turns specials into one-hit KO moves; any character with a fast charge (Knuckles, Cream, Emerl when properly equipped) can frequently get distance, charge up an OHKO, nail one or even two approaching enemies, rinse and repeat. Even spamming projectiles and traps can get you through in the right circumstances.

And that's why I love this system. It's broken, but you can work the jank in your favour and find many ways to exploit the game. It feels good! At first I was very frustrated but with a few pointers from friends and some goblin ingenuity I relished mastering this new style of play. The enemy's not fighting fair so why should I? Mwa ha ha!

It's worth noting that there's a few extra characters that are fought in the story that you can unlock for "free battle" or multiplayer, like a Gamma that isn't actually Gamma for lore reasons, or the slow but powerful Chaos. There's also a handful of minigames, but sadly most are locked to link cable play only. They look kinda cool but I'll never know. All I got was a lazy Knuckles-themed reskin of Windows 95 classic Minesweeper. Wahey.

Sonic Battle fits right in with some other Sonic games I've played recently: a heady mix of coolness, stupidity, great artistic choices, utter jank, some truly wrongheaded decisions, and gameplay that's a mess. In this case an endearing mess, so it comes out as a win. It's an easy must-play for Sonic fans. Especially for the story that feeds into Advance 3, Shadow the Hedgehog, and apparently Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood. And speaking of, I wonder what's next on my checklist...?

For some reason Mario & Sonic is discontinued so we cannot see Nintendo and Sega making a new Olympic video game for them! If let that crossover continued, they should consider another theme... Turns out into Mario & Sonic Party is nice, but how could makes different with original Mario Party (and Sonic Shuffle)? Should consider a new theme in reality for it...

And my answer is movie. The Oscars. Let them cosplay some classic Oscars Best Pictures nominees and winners, most movies are PG-13 and if select the movie is R-rated, that rating must still 16+ on other countries.

Does anyone here prefer Sonic the Hedgehog flying solo, or gathering a group of friends by his side? Like I'm sure that, even today, Sonic the Hedgehog's friends are still being criticized for backing up what is otherwise a solo protagonist of his own series. And it becomes perfectly understandable as to why:Their divergent, gimmicky playstyles since the Adventure series, Heroes, and '06 that will never be as good as Sonic running fast.Sonic already having two additional mechanics to supplement his speed while still flying solo, including rings to defend and heal himself with, and four different spin attacks and the boost (or his move set from Sonic Frontiers) to attack enemies and bosses with. And not a group of additional friends to give him that exact same healing and defense (e.g. Tails, Amy, and Cream) or attack (e.g. Knuckles, Shadow, and Rouge).But on the other hand, I just enjoy the reoccurring found family trope, where the protagonist gathers a group of companions by his side and form strong bonds of friendship with them. Versus flying solo and gaining additional freedom without any companions slowing you down or getting into internal conflicts with you, but none of the sense of found family or additional physical, mental, and emotional security you'd gain from a group of companions. And that's why some part of me wants to defend Sonic's friends.So what do you think? Is Sonic better off soloing his own franchise, with nothing but rings protecting and healing him, and spin attacks and the boost to attack enemies and bosses with? Or do you think he's really better off with companions to give him that exact same healing, defense, and attack in a large enough group? Pocky Game

"...and the goal is to eat more of it than your opponent?" Shadow asked, examining the candy stick. "I don't see the point. We could each just consume our own without having to deal with the other person's saliva for the sake of some arbitrary competition."

Knuckles frowned, brows furrowed. "Don't you get into stupid competitions with Sonic all the time?"

"That's different," the hedgehog insisted, "as rivals, my job is to perpetually remind him of his status as Second Best, and maybe piss him off enough to lose that idiotic grin for a short while."

With that, Shadow brought the pocky to his mouth, and bit into it. Knuckles watched, disheartened by his friend's unwillingness to play the game. He'd asked Rouge to show him how to do it, and she'd even been nice enough to let him in on the striped mobian's favorite flavor so he could be further enticed to participate.

Perhaps he should have chosen a different method of confessing his feelings, but this one felt like the best way to break the ice. Despite how close the two had become over the years, Shadow's friendship was hard-won, and there were some topics that simply had to be approached the right way to avoid any confrontations with the hedgehog.

And though they had never discussed romance on any significant level, Knuckles was no Casanova. If he could get Shadow to play the pocky game, he could steal a kiss under the guise of chasing victory - that way, if the echidna we're to receive any negative reaction, he could play it off without risking their bond.

Feelings or no, he didn't wanna lose Shadow.

Knuckles squared his shoulders, violet eyes narrowed in determination.

"What have you got to lose?" He asked, shaking the box. The pocky rattled around inside, strawberry sticks catching his friend's attention as he finished off the one in his hand. "Just play one round with me, and I'll give you the rest of them. I don't even like these all that much."

Shadow's ears twitched. He met the red mobian's eyes, clearly curious. "Why buy them, then?"

"Because you like them," Knuckles said, "and I wanted to try something fun with my friend."

The hedgehog's gaze softened, in that way they only seemed to do for Knuckles. His mouth ticked up on the sides into a small smile and he finally stepped closer, eating up the distance between them until they were less than arms' reach apart.

This close, the echidna could smell lavender. It made his heart pound, and he had to consciously remember not to crush the box in his hand.

"Okay," Shadow quietly acquiesced. His voice seemed to wrap around him, like flames licking the marshmallow hovering over a campfire. "One round. But you'll have to teach me how to play your game."

Knuckles nodded, grinning. "It's easy, I promise."

He plucked a new stick out as he explained the rules - chomp on the candy and get the closest to the middle without backing away. If you duck out, you lose, and if you both meet in the middle, it's a tie.

Shadow listened attentively, though when Knuckles told him the winning conditions, his face changed into something unreadable. It made the echidna nervous but he didn't comment on it, and his friend didn't change his mind about playing, so they carried on.

He lifted the stick up to mouth level. Shadow stepped even closer to reach it, and Knuckles' fingers trembled as he watched the hedgehog briefly lick his lips.

"R-ready?" He asked, as nonchalantly as he could manage. He hoped Shadow couldn't hear the rapid staccato of his heart.

"I'm ready," Shadow said, still wearing that funny expression, and closed his lips around his end of the pocky. Knuckles did the same, a bead of sweat running down one of his dreads.

With a thumbs up, Knuckles started the game, and began steadily eating his way to the middle of the candy. Shadow did the same thing, turning his head sideways to avoid bumping their noses together. As they inched closer, the hedgehog seemed to maintain his calm demeanor while Knuckles was fighting to urge to either dart away or yank his friend against his body. His eyes locked onto Shadow's mouth, occasionally catching a glimpse of teeth as he chewed on the stick.

His incessant stare was the only reason he caught Shadow suddenly smirking. He didn't have time to wonder why, when he felt the hedgehog grasp the back of his head and draw their lips together.

Knuckles yipped into the kiss, eyes wide, and then let them slip closed as what just happened sank in. He let the box of pocky drop from his hand as he placed them on the hedgehog's waist, relishing the feel of muscle hidden under dark fur. The scent of lavender seemed to encapsulate him from their proximity, as he chased Shadow's mouth for more.

He tasted like the candy, but his kisses burned. The echidna felt like he could lose himself in the firm press of his lips, the flick of his tongue. He felt the graze of his fangs brush his bottom lip, felt the promise of danger underneath the sweetness, and was dizzy when he finally pulled away.

"So?" Shadow asked him, expression teasing. "Did we tie?"

It took Knuckles a few seconds to remember that they'd been playing a game. He nodded dumbly, smiling wide like a buffoon.

"Yeah...yeah, we...uh...good job," he mumbled. His cheeks were hot as he realized he was acting like some giddy school girl. "Y-you can have the rest, as promised."

Shadow didn't even spare the box on the ground a passing glance. In fact, he hadn't let go of Knuckles' head, keeping the echidna drawn right up against his chest.

"That's alright," he said, "I've found a much sweeter prize."

ideal sonic voice cast

(disclaimer: i have not seen prime so i will not be considering those voices)

sonic: this is the only one i really have to think about for an extended period of time. it really comes down to how you write the character. sonic is pretty flexible outside of some core traits. i like max mittelman and i also like ryan drummond. jason griffith eventually became great imo but i would probably not ask for him back (not as sonic, anyway...)

tails: colleen o'shaughnessy. every tails voice actor has improved on the last imo, colleen is great

knuckles: dan green. i get the scott drier love but he plays knux a bit too flatly for my tastes. dan green is quintessential knuckles to me. travis willingham was always perfectly fine though not quite to dan green's standard for me, and while i do really respect dave b. mitchell's attempt i just don't think he sounds quite right. he'd be a good pick for boom knuckles though... they really need to merge the boom stuff that worked into the mainline series

shadow: jason griffith. again, respect to david humphrey, but he's not for me. my issue is that his line reads just sound kinda weird a lot of the time? he has a pretty good shadow voice, but jason's always been pretty great as shadow even back in ShTH. kirk thornton is... fine, but you can tell he's an older guy and he speaks a little slowly for my liking. (though if we're fancasting, mr. chongoblog doesn't do too bad a job either... 😳)

rouge: kathleen delaney, hands down. lani manella was alright but i feel like her rouge voice is a bit basic? karen strassman just sounds awful, I'm sorry. she's the embodiment of post-Gens rouge where they made her sex appeal her only trait and cut out everything else. and that's basically the voice strassman does. if they restored her character in future titles she would not be a good pick.

omega: i have no idea? i feel like almost anyone could do a good omega voice given good direction and a proper voice filter. even maddie blaustien's 06 performance sounds pretty good after being sped up and filtered like in p-06. john st. john is my favorite but i could go with anyone here

amy: i like the performances of jennifer duliard and lisa ortiz in the games about equal. lisa ortiz seems to have lost the voice however? she came back for sonic and tails r and she sounds pretty different in that, in a worse way. cindy robinson is another miscast like roger craig smith, though a good pick for boom amy. modern amy has very little character because i guess they figured the sonic crush wouldn't go over well these days?

big: please can we get john st john back 😭 whoever voices him in frontiers just does not do a good job

eggman: i love mike pollock just as much as the rest of you but... god, i miss deem bristow. that dude had RANGE. and i LOVE his eggman performances. they're so good. he sounds so threatening in one breath and maniacal in the next, i love it. eggman doesn't really have that kind of writing lately which isn't a problem but it is something i miss

silver: pete capella. quinton flynn sounds perfectly okay, though a bit softer which i don't feel really fits silver. whoever the current voice is, bryce... something? i've heard clips of him and i REALLY do not like those. capella is peak silver imo.

blaze: bella hudson. her modern actress doesn't sound quite right

He stays around the little town, though he doesn't stay in the shelter. Getting food is easy from the forest, but he also does little helpful things to get money for weiners-on-a-stick. Though, recently, he's been affording enough to get hot dogs. They're better.

His shoes have a problem. They can't stand up very well to his speed, so he's constantly needing to tape and repair them. There's not much else he can do to help the situation, but it's fine

...Just to kinda speed through things:

He sticks around town but goes into the forest for days at a time to enjoy openness and freedom

During one of these runs, he comes across Dr. Robotnik causing trouble

He uses his super speed to destroy the robots, much to the doctor's irritation

Noticing that the man is rather egg-shaped, Sonic starts thinking of him as Eggman

During another run, he comes across Miles getting bullied

He stops the bullying and Miles decides to follow him around

Miles asks what his name is, and after hearing Miles talking about his "supersonic speeds", he calls himself Sonic using nonverbal language

Miles sees that Sonic refers to him by spinning his fingers, and realizes Sonic's maybe calling him Tails

Considering how positive Sonic is about his tails, he accepts the nickname with pride

Sonic and Tails go on several adventures together from then on

Sonic has no memories of the ARK. While looking at Eggman makes him think of someone he once knew, it doesn't trigger much in him other than the desire to be careful around this strange person.

And talk.

He really wants to talk to him for some reason. But his muteness is persistent, so he doesn't try yet. Instead, he uses his body language to communicate with him, teasing the doctor, gleeful at his responses.

Tails is helping him after a while, too, and they both help the town and get rid of Eggman's bots. Eventually, Sonic gets enough money for new shoes, but they break while Sonic is battling Eggman.

Much to his surprise, during the next time they meet, Eggman gives him shoes.

"You're my enemy, but you should at least be able to fight at your strongest! I won't beat someone who is already down. That makes me look weak!"

Sonic puts on the shoes, and indeed, after running, they don't break. Sonic smiles up at Eggman.

"Thank you."

His voice is rough, soft, and whispery. Dry from disuse.

But Eggman hears it all the same, harrumphing after a bit before he tries to take Sonic down once again.

After that, Sonic starts speaking in bits. Not much, but getting used to his voice.

Eventually, he can hold full conversations, using a snarky, cocksure attitude.

Over the years and over the adventures, he becomes Sonic the Hedgehog, the hero who runs faster than the speed of sound.

He gains friends from the future, from other dimensions, from around the world.

He gets killed, comes back to life, then kills god (something no one but he remembers). He becomes a king, becomes a powerful djinn, becomes the savior of planets and worlds alike. He fights, and sometimes kills, other creatures and beings that threaten his home, rehabilitates those who change their ways, and befriends people who might have a different way of doing things, but mean no harm at large.

Like Knuckles, who doesn't really need rehabilitating, he was just mistaken. And now, he's one of his best friends.

Like Rouge, who has a thing for theft, but hey, he's broken into G.U.N. bases before to take back the Chaos Emeralds, so pot, meet kettle.

Like Jet, who is a grade A for asshole, but can be reliable when the time is right.

Like Shadow, who he manages to convince not to destroy the whole world in the name of Maria.

Maria...

Sonic doesn't dwell on that name much, not around others.

But in his private time, sitting out alone or on his runs, he does think.

The name sounds familiar.

A bit infuriating. A tad frustrating.

Painful.

He's not sure why. It's not like he's met the girl, and what he does know of her from Shadow's accounts and videos of the late Professor Robotnik, she was a wonderful girl who loved an earth she could never live on. If anything, it sounds like Sonic would've gotten along with her. That they could've been friends.

But there's a muddy feeling inside of him whenever he thinks of that name. So, he doesn't think about her often. Nor of her grandfather, whose name also brings a strong sense of discomfort.

And so, Sonic ignores these things that, in the end, don't mean much at all.

He ignores it until he can't.

Until Dr. Starline forces Eggman back into evil after he was so, so close to being good.

After the Metal Virus starts.

Chapter Two; Help Her Out?

Today was the day that Amy was to open her bakery. Sonic woke up early, eager to see Amy again. Seeing that it was only seven, and she was going at eight, he decided to go running, because that was his usual schedule. Wake up, make himself look handsome for the ladies, go running, go to work (a coach/olympic runner in the making) and gets home and acts lazy with Knuckles and Tails. Today will be different, Sonic gets to see his cru-I MEAN NEW FRIEND, HEHEHEHEH open up her bakery. 

    “Hey, Sonic. You’re up early. What’s the matter?” Tails’s voice was heard from the kitchen as Sonic had came out of his room. 

    “Eh, just felt like getting up early. Is it normal for you to be up this early?” Sonic asked back at him. Tails nodded. 

    “I usually go to the University around this time, but today is my free day. Are ya gonna do anything today?” Tails replied, turning his statement into a question.

    “I was thinking of helping Amy before she opens up her new restaurant. Hopefully she gives us free cookies.” 

    “You had me at cookies! Let’s go!” Tails got up and went to the door, waiting for Sonic. 

   “Take a chill pill, bud. We still have an hour left, but we should probably check if she’s awake yet.” Sonic grabbed Tails and ran to where Silver’s apartment was. He knocked on the door, to find Silver awake and in a grey bathrobe. “Uh...Where’s Amy?” 

   “In her room.” Silver simply responded. He let them in, and they went to her bedroom door. “Amy! Sonic and Tails are here to see you!” Silver yelled at the door. 

   “One minute!” A muffled voice said from the other side of the door. Within thirty seconds, Amy opened her door. She had a long sky-blue crop top that was long-sleeved, with a checkerboard pattern on the sleeves, and skinny jeans. Sonic tried his hard not to show his blush, but failed. Amy giggled at Sonic. “So, what’s goin’ on?” She asked the two. 

  “Oh nothing, just wanted to help you if you needed anything for your bakery’s opening.” Sonic told her. Amy smiled cutely at them. 

   “Aww, thanks! I actually do need some help. You see, I thought of some last-minute recipes, and I need someone to try them out to see if they taste good.” 

   “The only thing I wanna taste is you~” Sonic muttered, luckily not loud enough for her to hear.

   “What was that?” Amy questioned him, confused as to why he had whispered.

   “N-nothing! Nothing at all...” Sonic stuttered on his words. Tails, who had heard what he said, bit his lip as if trying not to laugh. Sonic took her hand, and led her out of the apartment. “So, Ames, to the bakery?” He asked. Amy gave him the directions and they left in Tails’s car.

    “This is the place?” Tails asked with awe as they pulled up right in front of a vibrant colored building. The bricks had rainbows painted onto them, most likely supporting LGBT rights, and the whole bakery was a light baby blue color from the outside. There was a big sign above the plexiglass doors that said “Rose Cafe” in bold red cursive. Amy seemed excited, and Sonic smiled at her cute reaction.

    “So, Ames-” Sonic was interrupted by Tails.

   “You wanted us to try something, Amy?” Tails inquired, not wanting to have to bear with Sonic’s terrible flirting towards an oblivious pink hedgehog.

    “Oh yeah! I have some cookies and cupcakes that I want you to try.” Amy remembered and opened up the doors with a key that had a rose and cupcake charm attached to it. She pushed open the doors and walked inside. The two were amazed at how colorful the cafe was from the inside. It had a faint mocha scent, but it was overpowered by the sweets Amy had in her hands. She gave them to Sonic and Tails.

    “Oh boy! Thanks Amy!” Tails scarfed down the chocolate chip cookies that he had gotten, until he heard a familiar voice.

Two familiar voices to be specific. Tails took some of the cookies in Amy’s hands and ran for the bathroom. The two voices stopped, and Amy was confused and baffled.

    “Those two are the ones he’s two-timing.” Sonic inaudibly whispered into Amy’s ear. She nodded in understanding.

   “Was that Miles?...” Cream the Rabbit asked. She was new to the city as well, but moved in a month ago. Tails knew that Cream and Cosmo were friends, so he gave Cosmo his nickname, Tails the Fox, and Cream his real name, which is Miles Prower. Amy shrugged.

   “Uhm, that’s just someone who had to use the bathroom, so I let them. Anyways, I want to introduce you to Sonic. Sonic, that’s Cream and Cosmo.” Amy said. Cream’s eyes lit up in excitement.

   “You’re Miles’s boyfriend! We met during one of our dates, but he said you were a third wheel because you don’t have a girlfriend. Are you gay?” Cream questioned in a blunt tone. Sonic blushed intensely. 

   “W-What?! No! I mean, I like someone, and I have my eyes on her, but I kinda should protect her from anyone who flirts with her.” Sonic admitted while itching the back of his neck. Amy felt her heart drop.

   “Who is it?” Cosmo asked curiously. Sonic’s eyes shrunk.

    “Enough questions, please! You two are here early...I thought you were supposed to come at 9:30.” Amy told the two girls. They both giggled.

    “About that...we were really excited, so we wanted to help you!” Cosmo yelled out before Cream could have a chance to respond.

   “Okay?..” Amy said hesitantly, not really believing Cosmo, but decided to ignore it. 

Suddenly, Amy’s phone went off. She checked to see who had texted her, only to find it was an unknown number.

   “Who is it, Ames?” Sonic asked, while peeking from behind her. Her breath hitched because he was breathing right on her neck.

   “Uhm, it’s j-just Rouge...” She stuttered. Sonic only hummed in response. Then he gave a peck to her neck. (A/N: oh shit that wasn’t supposed to rhyme, nor was I supposed to add that. My god you’ve messed it up lyra) Everyone looked to Sonic in shock. Amy was frozen stiff. Everyone was blushing, even the two girls, who hadn’t even done anything. 

    “I-I’m sorry...” Sonic spoke up. He was going to run off, but then he remembered, he was Sonic the Hedgehog! He only runs when he needs to.

    “You’re really pretty...” He whispered. That’s when Amy finally had the courage to talk.

     “M-maybe talk about this later? If that’s all r-right with you?” She questioned, her blush getting darker by the second. Sonic’s ego deflated once again.

     “Y-yeah...sure.” Sonic replied with anxiety lacing his voice.

     “T-thanks. Anyways, just go on ahead to the kitchen, and I’ll make sure everything is set.” She was going to open the cafe at nine, and she did a quick prayer to Chaos hoping it would go well.

     “Okay Amy.” Cream answered. She and Cosmo both headed for the door to the kitchens, and Amy linked arms with Sonic.

     “Shall we check how Tails is doing?” She reminded the blue hedgehog, because he probably most likely forgot about him in the midst of all that had happened.

     “Yes we shall.” Sonic continued, and they walked to the bathroom. They stopped at the Mens’ bathroom door. “So...”

     “This is my cafe, I can go in the mens’ bathroom for reasons if I want to.” She claimed.

     “Okay then...” He pushed the door open for her, and they walked inside to find a hyperventilating Tails.

     “How do I get out?!” Tails gasped out. Amy ran to him.

     “Tails! Where are you right now?” She demanded.

     “I-In your bakery..”

     “And why are you in this state?”

     “Because both my girlfriends are in the same building as me..” His chest started to go up and down rapidly again.

    “How would you feel if I told you that they are in the kitchen, so they won’t be able to see you?” Tails heartbeat started to slow down.

    “That would be nice...” Sonic rolled his eyes.

     “You really need to be more careful, bud.” Sonic bluntly spoke to his fox friend. Amy glared at him. She was trying to calm him down, and he just had to speak the damn truth.

    “Shut up, Sonic.” She snapped.

     “Here, the cafe is going to open in a few minutes, so you can sit in the private reserved tables, and put your hoodie up.” She had Tails walk behind Sonic and herself so they were hiding Tails. They walked up to a table that was against the wall and Tails sat there, hiding one of his tails so the girls wouldn’t recognize him.

She ran outside and beamed with happiness that no one could resist.

    “WELCOME TO ROSE CAFE!” She exclaimed.

ANNNNNNNNNNNNDDDDDDD THAT’S A WRAP! I really hope you enjoyed Chappie two, because goddamnit this took weeks to write because of my laziness. I’m okay now.

Chapter three is probably either gonna be Silver being high on crack, or the girls’ night out, it depends on what I’m in the mood for.

Scourge x Amy stuff-

- When they were younger they fought A L O T. Like physically and verbally cuz Amy just hated him cuz he was a douchebag and mean- he just liked starting shit with her

- Then they get a little older and Scourge chills out a bit, he still teases her and she retorts. Theu develope a semi playful rivalry

- She stopped liking Sonic cuz he was hooked on Sally and she didn't want to be a third wheel, considering Rouge and Knuckles were dating too, Manic was..Manic-

- Scourge broke up with Fiona cuz they kept arguing and she pissed him off cuz she kept trying to take control and..you cant control a control freak-

- Scourge and Amy hung out more and Manic started teasing them about being into one another but they deny it cuz Amy has standards and Scourge is a thot

- Scourge has a lot of petnames for Amy, including but not limited to (Sweetness, Sweets, Princess Peach, Pinky etc)

- Sonic wasnt a fan of the new found friendship cuz he doesnt trust Scourge..at all. Like he really doesnt fuck with him.

- Scourge sees this and decides to hang out with Amy harder- out of sheer smite cuz he knows Sonic doesnt like this. Amy doesnt notice

- Sonic tries to interject. But Manic stops him cuz Amy isnt stupid and if something happens is because she allows it, she knows what Scourge is like and shes fine

- Scourge at first just wanted to sleep with Amy but..he liked hanging out with her a lot cuz she was sweet and when hes having a 'I hate myself and everything around me' moment she helps him, and plus she doesnt take any of his shit.

- He develops a crush on her, and she develops a crush on him a little later when he decides to let his guard down and be nice. He can be chill and he likes hanging out with her, he doesn't mind her temper cuz he has one too, he thinks the world of her and tells her so.

- Amy is like..5'0 and hes 5'11 S O. imagine the height difference!!! Amys s h o r t.

- Amy lets Scourge draw on her arms when hes feeling antsy in class

- Scourge would totally give Amy a tattoo when shes ready for one

- Amys like 17 Scourge is 18. Theeen they go to college.

- Well Amy goes to college, Scourge does 2 and a half years and he just..hates it so much. He becomes a friggin gangster. He runs /everything/ they meet again at like 24/25

- They get married at like 29 or somethin.

Analyzing the IDW Sonic Issue #24 cover

Cause it actually gives us a pretty good insight on which characters will/allowed to appear in this series! (or at least I assume)

Ok so just to give some general context, Ian Flynn has said in a previous interview that classic era characters won’t appear. IDW Sonic, (at least for now, is strictly Modern Era)

So we can expect to not see these following characters in the IDW Sonic comic-verse for a good while.

Classic Versions of Sonic, Tails, Amy, Knuckles, Vector, Espio, Charmy, Eggman and Metal Sonic

Segasonic the Hedgehog (Mighty the Armadillo and Ray the Flying Squirrel)

Sonic the Fighters (Honey the Cat, Bean the Dynamite and Bark the Bear)

Sonic Triple Trouble (Fang the Sniper/Nack the Weasel)

Tails’ Sky Patrol (Carrotia, Focke-wulf, Bearenger, Witchcarter)

Sonic R (Metal Knuckles, Tails Doll) 

Silver Sonic

Battle Kukku Empire (XV, Speedy and Doctor Fukurov)

Chaotix (Heavy and Bomb)

But in IDW Sonic Issue #3, Sonic mentions The Hooligans, so at the very least they can mention the existence of classic characters. 

But this restriction of characters does beg the questions though? What is and isn’t off limits in IDW Sonic?

Apart from Classic Universe, there are three other universes that come from the sonic games. Boom Universe, (though quite loosely-considered as a universe) Storybook Universe and (a more sketchy, loosely considered as a universe) Chronicles Universe.

In the case of Boom!Sonic, given the design of Sonic and the rest of the cast, we can outrule Sticks the Badger and Lyric from appearing, not sure if they’re allowed to reference them though. 

In the case of Storybook!Sonic, they’re allowed to reference the storybook games (as shown in IDW Sonic Issue #16). However using characters such as Shahra and Merlina is also unclear (but I’d guess they won’t appear).

In the case of Chronicles!Sonic, given the whole Ken Penders thing, I bet that Shade and the rest of the characters won’t even be given an allusion to.

Well how about one-off characters? Characters that appeared once or a few times in Sonic’s adventures?

Well, this is where this cover helps! See, as of the current issue, IDW Sonic Issue #22, a generous amount of characters has appeared.

The Main Cast (Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy)

That’s almost everybody we see in this cover... except for a few characters.

That’s right, some previously unseen characters like Big the Cat, Froggy, and Marine the Raccoon of all characters, are seen again.

In Big’s case, it isn’t as jarring. He was bound to appear sometime, being apart of Team Rose, appearing in Sonic Adventure, his role in the Sonic games is far too big to skim over. In fact we actually may have an idea on where he is in the current arc. In IDW Sonic issue #22, page 5, we see a speech bubble, “Froggy?! Where are you?!”.

While Big is not explicitly shown in the actual issue, he is most well known for this phrase and his love and concern for Froggy, his pet frog. This suggests he may be present in the Restoration HQ...

... His fate, however, whether he got infected by the metal virus or not is undetermined. 

After scanning the room for people who has not been infected Gemerl stated that every one in there are already in different states of infection. So unless Big has somehow escaped (which to be honest, his character seems to be the type to pull surprises)...

... Big is already infected and left behind with Vector, Charmy and Vanilla.

Now for Marine. Blaze originally came to Sonic’s dimension because she felt something was wrong. 

She is introduced to Tangle as a princess from another dimension who wields the Sol Emeralds. She eventually joins the fight against Neo Metal Sonic and taking back Angel Island. 

At the end of IDW Sonic Issue #12, she says her work is done and decides goes back to the Sol Dimension.

In the Sonic 2019 Annual Issue, there is a story that involves Blaze visiting Silver’s Garden. 

And according to David Mariotte, the 2019 issue takes between issues #12 and #15. So Blaze was still in Sonic’s universe until at most before the Metal Virus arc started.

In the Metal Virus arc, Blaze is absent, most likely already having returned to the Sol Dimension. So with the appearance of Marine, does Blaze return back to Sonic’s dimension in this arc? Does she bring Marine along? Why?

And the presence of the Babylon Rogues and Jewel in the cover coupled with the solicitation description for IDW Sonic Issue #24:

“The Last One Out" As the Metal Virus spreads, Tangle's hometown of Spiral Hill Village stands as one of the last strongholds of the uninfected. Sonic, Tangle, and the remaining heroes of the Restoration make a stand, but will it be enough?

And the fact that the last time the Rogues and Jewel were last seen was during the jewel heist at Mineral Museum suggests that they will appear there once more.

Does the appearance of Marine, who’s only appearance in the game series is Sonic Rush Adventure, and the Babylon Rogues, who only appeared in the Sonic Riders spin-off games, suggest that other one-off characters will reappear in this continuity? Like Tikal and Chaos from Adventure, Elise from 06 and Yacker from Colors?

Speculation:

Yeah remember when I said that Big is the type to pull surprises? I bet that in a later issue it will be revealed that Big got on the ship safely. However, Froggy is infected, Big, who cares for Froggy too much, couldn’t bare to leave him behind. I mean, that one throwaway dialogue could be a clue for what’s to come. He compromises the safety of the ship, spiraling the mood of the heroes down further. I think that someone of note is gonna get infected, other than Big. And that would send Cream’s mood to be even more desolate. 

It can’t be Tails cause he’s working on the cure, he’s got plot protection cause he needs to bounce back from his mistake (dropping the cure, and it’s incomplete). Sonic is plot protected as well and Knuckles is on Angel Island. Espio needs to avenge the Chaotix so he has a flimsy plot shield. Tangle is needed because something is definitely gonna happen in Spiral Hill, where Jewel is currently in, so she’s protected. 

I think it’s Amy. Just think about it, she’s one of the main 4, she’s the head of Restoration, she’s been doing so well, handling everything that comes at her, She is the face of the restoration and who many people rely on. She is Cream’s role model. And she promised Vanilla that she’d protect Cream. When you take her away, everything seems more hopeless and desolate, one of the main pillars of the sonic franchise has crumbled, and now the metal virus seems more dangerous than ever.

It can also be Whisper, Whisper and Tangle’s spinoff series ends exactly before issue #23 will come out. And in the spinoff, one of it’s main themes is the friendship that Whisper and Tangle have. They’ve become close to rely on each other. And as much as I hate to think it, Whisper may be “fridged” to boost Tangle’s desire to save her friends in issue #23. A setup for issue #24, where the metal virus goes to Spiral Hill, where Jewel is. 

Now why am I mentioning Cream’s role here? Well it’s because Cream is the hidden star of this arc. Think about it. Charmy’s infection is the catalyst for Sonic to check up on Cream and her family. Gemerl’s main purpose is to protect Cream, and he is currently the protector of the uninfected, given that all other “protector” characters, are currently unavailable (Sonic is infected, Shadow has turned, Silver is busy, Blaze is not yet there, Omega is ripped, Vector is infected, Amy will soon turn). Chocola and Cheese, her friends, compromised Tails’s cure. Vanilla turned in front of her eyes. So many of the events are centered around Cream, and there will definitely be one more catalyst for her big role.

Enter Marine and Blaze. Cream is friends with Blaze, finding friendship with one another in Sonic Rush. And in the cover, we can see Cream holding hands with Marine. There will definitely be an interaction between the two of them considering that 

All characters in the cover are posed in a way where all interactions have meaning. (Babylon Rogues are together, Chaotix are together, Dark are together, etc.) Why pose Cream and Marine like this when they’ve never interacted before?

Both are related to Blaze in a way, mayhaps a humorous introduction may happen between the two “Oh Hello Ms. Blaze!” “I’m her real bestfriend!” etc.

If Amy does turn, Cream, for once in her life will be alone, Amy is gone, Vanilla, Cream and Chocola have turned, and if I’m right, Big is already infected as well. Even the more minor friends she has like Sonic is infected, Tails is busy, Knuckles is MIA and Vector (Sonic Riders), has already turned. Blaze will be the only person left, a sister figure that Cream can cling onto.

And as a final catalyst, A few more people will get infected, whether it will be Tails, or Sonic or Blaze, I can’t guess. But what I will guess is that Cream will definitely have a big role in this arc’s ending.

Aurgh! I’m just so excited for the upcoming issues, and seeing this cover definitely made my brain churn!!

With all the drama over Penders with Sally and Geoffrey, how do you feel about a popular ship like Knuxouge where one is 18 and the other is 16?

Right. Since @nuttyrabbit and @robotnik-mun already answered this question, my response is largely going to end of mirroring what they said as I’m in agreement with both of them.

These things, they are not comparable. There is a difference between canon material marketed toward children, and fandom material created by fans. Canon material is, well, canon. Regardless of headcanon and personal tastes, the canon is law to the actual, true, events. Knuxouge was only teased at and never went anywhere - Geoffsal was pushed as part of a canon live triangle and Penders has gone on record stating that had he the clearance to do so, he would have made a statutory rape canon. In a comic book intentionally marketed toward children. In contrast, fandom material - you have to look for that. And if you find something you don’t like, you can blacklist it. There are ships that I have blacklisted because I don’t want to look at them - I can’t blacklist the canon without boycotting the material altogether.

Further, as R-Mun stated, there is a huge difference between a two year gap and a five year gap when we’re speaking in regards to a minor. You could argue the power dynamic, but this is never seen between Knuckles and Rouge and both are shown to have their own agency, whereas Geoff very clearly thinks of Sally and the other Freedom Fighters as children. He viewed Sally as a child and still pursued her. Further, the way she was treated between Sonic and Geoff, and the way Penders chose his words, Sally was a conquest. A prize to be won. She had no agency.

There is also little correlation between most Sonic character’s canon ages and how they behave and other various factors. Rouge, for example, I see as being somewhere in her mid-20′s, at least, because I absolutely DO NOT buy that she’s an accomplished master thief and government spy at only 18 fuckin years old. Likewise, I don’t think Knuckles even knows his own age due to the circumstances he grew up in and would probably pull a random number out of his butt if he was put on the spot. The practice of aging characters up is completely valid.

Penders, by contrast, DOES view Sally as a child. He refers to her as 16 (even tho she was actually 15) and compares her to a high schooler. I’ve mentioned before on my blog and even to him directly - he had it within his power to either retcon Sally’s age and make her older, or set Geoff’s age as younger. He made the conscious choice not to and paired a character he has admitted he views as a child with a character he compares to a college student.

These things, they are not comparable.
