Synopsis | After robbing Lunar Bay Resort, home to one of the most powerful people in the empire, but being seen by a strange kid free to roam the private housing wing, a young rogue from the underground must engage in an elusive game as his witness takes the offense more personally than originally suspected. Their rivalry reveals to them a deeper, grim grasp on their places in society, their own buried fears, how they can understand each other, and hurt and help one another. This intermission in the Anthem series tells the story of an integral bond that forms before the main story's events.

what was your writing-highlight this year? what made it special and how will you reflect on it next year?

My writing highlight this year was definitely just getting back into writing, and proving to myself that I can make money doing it if I really want to. I had hip surgery last year, it was a whole ordeal leading up to it, so I didn't write for about 2 years solid. But now I'm back in and it feels so good.

4. what is your favourite line you wrote this year?

Oh man, this is tough since I didn't actually write much fiction this year, but I think I have something from the Jimian chapters I've been rewriting.

"And if spring never came again, neither would there be hope."

5. what is your favourite book/story/poem you read this year?

I read a few decent books this year, unfortunately nothing that really tore me up! But my favorite read this year that sucked me in was The Sight by David Clements-Davies. I really love animal fiction when it's written well, and I think David Clements-Davies is a really underrated author.

7. what are three songs you put on your WIP-playlist this year?

YEAH my fave. I'll stick with the Wolfena still, I always have a yearly playlist for it with real dark and scary songs on it since that's the vibe of the book. Some new ones I added this year:

autumn studying challenge:

2nd October - Do you have any autumn traditions?

I like to go to the park every year and take a stroll through all the beautiful trees before it snows! That and I like to watch scary movies on Halloween, but I dunno if I’ll be able to do it with friend this year or not…

3rd October - What is a good memory that you have from autumn? 

My old house had an apple tree in the backyard! And every year at fall we’d pick them and make four to five apple pies and give them out to my family. The only thing I don’t miss about that apple tree is all the wasps that would hide in the apples…I don’t know how to make apple pie anymore, but I make a mean blueberry cobbler.

So I made a thing for a character that I don't really know yet. I don't have all the pieces for him, just SOME and I wrote a prompt based on those little pieces - I liked it anyway, but boy is it hard when you're still working out WHO a character is and he might not even be like this later sdlfkjsdf

He was in a bad mood – no scratch that, a fucking irritated mood. Wasn’t his work in med bay that made him this irritated - the work load was fine, coworkers listened to him fine, people came in for their checkups on time. No, there was something else and he couldn’t put his finger on it. He paced his cabin, a pretty spacious room, had a desk with a thick tablet rested upon it where he could get his work done and had nice hexagonal view of a whole lotta nothing – nothing but the endless stars. Probably would’ve drove him nuts to sit there and look out the window all day, wrapping his head around how insignificant they all were.

He stopped pacing and sat down on his bed, another luxury that they afforded him and at least thank god for this one since he had long legs – the last bed he had back in Consenza…He shook his head, rubbing an exasperated hand through his brown curls and digging around with his other in his pocket for his most trusted item. His pack of cigarettes. Obviously they had better ways to smoke in this day and age, futuristic shit, but he was a sucker for the classic. A simple Marlboro pack. Hard to find nowadays, more expensive too, but what was he wasting his big shot doctor money on anyways? Especially now that he ended up where he ended up, Marlboro would be non-existent – better make his last couple packs last.

He snakes a cigarette out and lights it, as soon as he does so, a hub in his ceiling flashes a warning light and an automated voice calmly states:

“Senti, non m'interessa…” he muttered as he waived the alert off, sending his room back to silence. Well relatively, there would always be a permanent hum from the engines. He laid back on his bed, not caring about the ashes, one arm coming under to cradle his head as he took a drag, held it, and slowly exhaled it out, watching the lazy tendrils of smoke waft out of him to the ceiling. Whatever was bugging him, this was calming him. Just him, alone, killing himself slowly and his thoughts. He closed his eyes, yes, he was feeling-

There is a short melodious ring at the door, announcing someone’s presence and the irritation flares as he sits up to glare at the door and calls: “Che cos’è?”

What the fuck could it be now?

This was his off day, wasn’t it?

“You know I don’t understand Italian.” A voice comes from the intercom attached to the door.

The exact source to all his problems. You.

He gets up from bed, cigarette dangling on his lower lip and presses the side panel to open the door – he leans hunched on the frame, muscular arms crossed over his black long sleeve shirt as the door slides open to reveal you standing there. Smugly. You liked seeing him upset and disgruntled.

You open your mouth to say something, probably more sass ready to roll off your pretty tongue, your typical foreplay, and he cuts you off.
