Hello, I am a random person who stumbled upon you spiderman oc post and curiosity is tugging at me. As someone who is also filipino and wants to learn more about Philippines mythology, I'd like to know more about Len for fun. How is the boy doing lol?

Sorry for the late response! I’ve been busy at work because of the holidays so I can’t be online as much as I usually could.

Len is doing fine; I only started using him in some RP stuff I do with friends, but I do plan on exploring more Filipino folklore with him. Currently his main enemies are aswang (who look a little different from how they were described to me, mainly because I had to make them more threatening/consolidate the contradicting elements of aswang lore). I have this idea that aswang in Len’s world can have different color skin. One powerful aswang in particular has green skin… and because aswang are not mainstream in the US, civilians who see this green aswang end up mistaking him for a goblin…

Another partial inspiration for the Spider-Man powers coming from an agimat is from a Philippine folktale I read called “The Anting-Anting of Manuelito,” which is where I got some inspiration for the idea of where the powers came from. His webs are organic, or at least part of his costume, which is a magic/energy construct similar to what you sometimes see in tokusatsu. In addition to the aswang, he has to deal with the descendants of a special group of hunters who fought Spider-Man in the past, and are convinced that Len will be a threat just like the last one.

I’m a big believer of writing what you know, so I decided to put Len and his friends somewhere in Los Angeles (or a fictional city that is similar). I imagine his neighborhood being similar to Highland Park or Eagle Rock, the latter especially having a notable Filipino-American population. Len lives with his parents, and has many relatives in the area, many whom are doctors or nurses.

Then Jesus shouted out again, and he released his spirit. At that moment the curtain in the sanctuary of the Temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. The earth shook, rocks split apart, and tombs opened. The bodies of many godly men and women who had died were raised from the dead.

“And behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.” Now you have to understand that the temple is 'naos', the Holy of Holies, and the Holy of Holies had a barrier so that no one could go in there. Only the high priest, once a year on the Day of Atonement, could go into the holy of holies, where the arch of the covenant was, and there sprinkle blood on behalf of the nation for their sins on the mercy seat on the top of the arc. And the high priest going in there had to have bells on his garment, so that if he had gone in there in any sense unclean and God had killed him, they would know he was dead because they wouldn’t hear the bells. As long as they heard the bells, they knew he was still alive and moving around.

This is symbolic of the fact that people were shut out of God’s presence. No one really could go in there. And it wasn’t a gradual change. When Jesus died on the cross, God Himself ripped that curtain from top to bottom. Ripped it, because Jesus had done what no priest could ever do. Only one priest, a high priest, could go in there, and he couldn’t take anybody with him, nor could he make the way for anyone else to come. But at the death of Jesus, God himself ripped the curtain wide open and the Holy of Holies was open to all. And by the way, this was 3:00 in the afternoon on Passover, and the temple would have been jammed with people. In one moment, the Holy of Holies that no one had ever seen was completely exposed to everyone. No more Day of Atonement. No more high priests. No more priests. No more sacrifices. No more barrier. And soon the whole temple would be trampled by the pagan Romans. And to this day, never ever rebuilt. At this moment, the corruption of that robber’s den started to come down. And what was the father saying? Access is open to all. Christ the great high priest did what no priest could ever do. He threw the way to God open. He ripped the barrier. And the Father punctuated His work by Himself ripping the curtain.

Rowena's become a pretty meaningful character for me in the fairly short time I've had her.

The original concept was always the form being pieced together, but initially I planned on it being like magical glowing lines. A bout of inspiration directed me to go for a scrapbooking look instead.

thoughts and rambling. I don't give out advice on how to write xyz bc I'm not really a professional. And also when I see threads spreading online abt how to write xyz poc. And they're often. Eh? not really right. *even if the person writing them belongs to the same marginalization*- Also often Generalizing- like for example, I once saw a thread on "how to write Muslims" with tens of thousands of notes- and one of the points listed was "stop drawing Muslim characters wearing gold / the color purple"- which is immediately. Like. Dismissive of the entirety of maritime southeast asia (the biggest Muslim populations in the entire world are southeast asian demographics.)- purple happens to be an important color of Tausug and Maranao embroidery- Muslim indigenous peoples of the southern Philippines.

another example off of the top of my head- when people say that "all Chinese people have monosyllabic surnames".. again that's not true for so many Chinese diasporas and ethnic minorities- my great grandparents- were Chinese, and their last names were Cojuangco and Angco- many Hokkien-speaking Chinese folks living in southeast asia have non-monosyllabic surnames- especially if they settled before colonialism- in the Philippines, many chinese surnames are like- Limuangco, Lacson, Yuchengco, Siongco..

No good idea how to close this rant. All I know is that I've lived for so long, it's hard to see people as terrible and purposefully insensitive over the slightest faux pas over mistakes- mainly because the people who feel authoritative over writing poc- also aren't equipped to be writing threads that become extremely widespread online and often spread the wrong ideas. Feels cliche to say, but everybody makes mistakes haha. I'm free to give.. um. Suggestions. but absolutely no word of god in this household.

THE ROMANCE IS CANON, BUT AT WHAT COST? (but it's canon?? but what at what cost? IT'S CANON!)

... Because for as much time as they spent apart in Season 2, in the eyes of the creative team, it was Loki and Sylvie's romance that drove the events of Season 2 to their bittersweet conclusion.

In an interview with Collider's Therese Lacson, executive producer Kevin Wright disagreed with the suggestion that their relationship was less important in the second season, saying:

"I would disagree with the assessment that we downplayed the relationship. They may not be stopping to kiss. Everything is driven because of the deep emotions that these two people have for one another. Everything that happens this season, I think, is still a ripple effect from Sylvie feeling deeply wounded and saying like, “why aren't we seeing this the same way?” This person is probably the first person in her life she ever opened up to. And Loki trying to get this person who he's seeing is making the same mistakes that he made in the MCU 10 years ago, going down these blind paths of vengeance and anger and all this, and he's trying to prevent this person from going down that path, because he deeply loves them and cares about them."

For Wright, the life-or-death, timeline-spanning consequences of Season 2 meant there was less time for the cute and cuddly moments, but that doesn't mean their relationship is any less romantic:

"You get that in Season 1 because they get stuck on a train together on Lamentis and you get to have that romantic moment, because two characters who at that moment can't stand each other, then have to spend an afternoon together, and an evening on the train. Or they get stuck in the void together. They just don't have those moments to get on the same page [in Season 2.]"

For as much as Wright sees the plot of Season 2 as stemming directly from how much Loki and Sylvie care about each other, that's cold comfort to fans who were hoping to see the two gods of mischief ride off into the sunset together. For Wright, though, this is what made their romance more realistic, as he told Lacson:

"I think it felt natural, and more realistic, and messy, and I think that was our thing is like real relationships are messy. And we wanted to do that and not force something that felt inauthentic just to like service fan dreams of seeing these two happy together. They both need a lot of personal work to get to a place where they could have a good relationship "

So Wright is basically saying that the romance is still there, but they didn't have a moment like in Lamentis or the void to talk about it. So it would unrealistic to bring it up... which I could totally understand IF the show should last 12 episodes and we would have actual time to drag their relationship and IF we didn't have...

And to the last quote says "they need a lot of personal work" to get to a good relationship. Again i would love to see that man, but when tho?? you're saying this like there's another season coming solely focused on their relationship??? because i would be so in! hahaha
