I am a ladynoir stan to the core but all I am saying is that, if Chat Noir got slightly disinterested in Ladybug in the process of falling for Marinette, and Ladybug for once saw that she had been taking Chat's attention for granted, it would be nice. Just, you know, as an experiment. Not even flipping the square or anything. Just wanna see Chat Noir be himself without trying to get Ladybug's attention all the time.

Hello world!

It's been a while but hey, SCHOOL'S FINALLY OVER!

Being an upcoming high-school junior, I still have plenty of work to do this summer, but I have some goals to meet.

Firstly, though I will mostly be focusing on my works on AO3, I'll be popping in on Wattpad to update every now and then. I'll post here whenever I make an update.

Secondly, there are a few fics I need to finish by this summer, notably 'Our Love Destroyed the World'(which I haven't touched since...DECEMBER?!?), 'The Defection', and 'Three Crazy Days'. Also, I'm planning to write a sequel to 'Head Scratches'.

For those of you who have no idea what fics I'm talking about:

-'Our Love Destroyed the World': a Cat Blanc AU fic where Cat Noir goes to the alternate timeline with Ladybug

-'The Defection': An AU where the final battle between Monarch and the super duo happened after Multiplication and Adrien died(DjWifi children are protagonists)

-'Three Crazy Days': Marinette has to babysit her future daughter for three days, leading to surprising revelations and identity reveals

-'Head Scratches': Just that. Cat Noir getting head scratches from his lady.

Thirdly, regarding 'A Demonslayer's Tale', I've revised my original plan for the story and realized that with the new changes I've made, the story will be too long for a single fic, so it will be split into two volumes. I'll continue updating over the summer.

Finally, I'll be trying my hand at art this summer and trying to get better at drawing, so I might post art here, both Miraculous-related and non-Miraculous-related. Bear with me because currently I'm a terrible artist, and I'll be open to any drawing suggestions you guys have.

I'll probably be updating a few fics tomorrow, so stay tuned!

Ladynoir July 2023 is almost here! We are very excited for this year’s event and hope you all are ready to create some content since we are missing it in canon right now! Super huge thanks again to one of our mods @chocoluckchipz for making this amazing calendar (with some assist from @ladyofthenoodle)!

The Ladynoir July discord server came up with and voted on this year’s prompts. If you would like to be part of the prompt selection process in the future, or if you just want to hang out in a quiet, salt-free server that loves Ladynoir, feel free to reach out for an invite in DMs.

To participate in this event, use the prompts (also written out below the cut) during the month of July to create art, fic, gifs, music, cosplay, anything you want! Just be sure to @ this blog and use the tag #ladynoirjuly2023. You do not have to do the prompts in order, nor do you have to do all of them. Do as many or as few as you’d like, and, most importantly, don’t forget to have fun!

That being said, please keep in mind a few rules:

A Run In Autumn

Written for @peakwonderfulness ! It wouldn't let me gift to you on AO3 for some reason, but thank you so much for this! I had fun writing it! :)

Fandom: Miraculous Ladybug Pairing: Ladynoir Summary: On her morning run, Marinette spies someone who reminds her too much of Chat Noir. When she falls, he offers her a hand, and realizes that really is her partner- and he recognizes her as Ladybug.

The air nips at her nose as she runs, the cool autumn wind making Marinette glad she chose to bundle up that morning. In a ladybug-spotted hat that Alya had gotten her the previous year, and a new, bright red jacket that her parents had gotten her to match it, she was perfectly warm enough to run without much fear of catching cold. Plus it was sunny out, when it'd been storming the last week- she didn't want to waste it, nor the opportunity to wear the sunglasses she'd made again.

Taking a path outside of her usual running route, she was hoping to find something to inspire her next fashion project. Autumn was one of her favorite times to find inspiration in the way the colors of the trees change, how the warm colors contrast with the cool air, how people begin to change into warmer clothes while trying to hold onto the heat of the summer a little while longer.

It wasn't hard to keep an eye out as she ran; her time as Ladybug made her more vigilant than ever. For the first leg of her run, she made a mental note of different things: couples wearing matching outfits, the few people who properly blended summer and autumn attire, the colors of the city and how the late morning light danced on them.

It's only halfway through her run that she notices him.

The other runner, who's been keeping pace with her for the last half-mile or so.

He's running on the opposite side of the street, dressed in all black, including his hat that's adorned with kitty ears. Bits of blonde hair stick out from underneath, and its unruliness reminds her of Chat Noir's.

In fact… the way he runs reminds her of him, too. The eyes, maybe, but he's wearing sunglasses just like she is, and of course, there's no tail… but she can picture one behind him pretty easily.

She's so distracted watching him that she doesn't notice the uneven sidewalk in front of her, her foot catching on it and sending her down to the ground. So much for vigilance. With a groan, she brings herself back up to her knees, checking for any injuries, and only finds a few scrapes on her hands. No big deal, and easy enough to take care of once she gets home.

"Are you alright?"

Startled, she looks up, the other runner in front of her now, holding his hand out to her.

"Never better," she says, a little sarcastic, though she does take his hand, appreciating the kind gesture.

Standing face-to-face with him, she tries to see through the dark lens of his sunglasses, and she thinks his eyes might actually be green underneath. He glances at her hat and grins, and she wonders if he's thinking that it's funny, both of them being out wearing Ladybug and Chat Noir attire specifically.

"Might wanna keep a better eye on the road," he says, not unkindly, " …my lady."

And then he smiles wide, as if he just told the world's funniest inside joke.

Except, she's the only other person actually in on the joke.

"Chat Noir?"

The shock on his face freezes him still, and it's only when he stiffens that she realizes his hand is still in hers. She carefully takes her hand from his, and he jumps back a little.

"... Ladybug?"

"Chat Noir."

The shock quickly leaves him, though she's still reeling from it. Instead, he looks a little bashful, sticking his hands deep into his coat pockets- probably to protect how his ring looks outside of the transformation. She's suddenly glad that her hat covers her ears and keeps her earrings from being seen, although hers are pretty generic.

"Funny meeting you out like this. Civilian patrol?" he asks, and the awkward question makes her smile.

"No, just out for a run. It clears the head, you know?" She pauses. "Wait. Are you?"

"No! No, I'm out for a run, too. Before it gets too cold."

She nods, understanding. Once winter comes around, she won't be able to get many runs in herself, unless she's wearing her actual Ladybug suit. Akumas are a holiday season staple, unfortunately, and the cold tends to make people more miserable than not.

"Is this… I'm not asking to pry, but we probably shouldn't be catching the same running paths in the future, so is this one of your regular routes?" she asks.

"Yeah, I come this way a lot. It's pretty quiet, not much traffic… I've never seen you running in this area before though. At least, not at this time."

"I am a little late to run today," she admits, cheeks warming slightly as she shifts her weight from one leg to the other. "But I don't usually come down this way anyways. I'm just looking for a little inspiration and thought I'd change up my route today."

"Inspiration?" he asks, cocking his head to the side. The ears on his hat move, too, and she has to stifle a laugh.

"Oh, you know, trying to figure out a certain kitty's gift for this year." A lie, but not really. She does want to figure out something nice to get him, even if it isn't the purpose of her run today. "What about you? Why're you out running?"

He shrugs, rocking back and forth on his feet, which is a little funny to see from her partner.

"Just getting some fresh air."

"Oh, okay."

"Yep."

They stand there, neither one moving as the wind rushes past them. It's… more awkward than Marinette would like to admit, and she's sure Chat Noir feels the same, but she doesn't want to leave him quite yet. Even if it's dangerous for them to be meeting like this- unplanned or otherwise- she never truly enjoys saying goodbye to him.

Struck by that particular realization, she peers up at him, and smiles.

"So, do you-"

"Do you want to-"

"Sorry, wait, you go on-"

"No, you first," he says, gesturing with his arm to let her go.

"Alright, well," she begins, clearing her throat. "Do you want to finish our runs together? We can pick a new place to stop and split up from there."

Chat Noir's expression lifts, and she can imagine his cat ears perking up, his tail swinging side-to-side from excitement. It's a silly thought, but then, she knows her partner's mannerisms better than anyone, and that includes the cat components that are absent on his civilian person.

"I was going to ask the same thing!"

"You know what they say about great minds, don't you, Chat Noir?"

He beams at her.

"Of course, my lady. After you," he offers, letting her take the lead so that she can set their pace.

She accepts it, starting off at a brisk jog before ramping their speed up to a run, the same pace as before. He runs right beside her, ring clenched in one of his fists, and she grins. Pushing herself a little bit faster, she watches him match pace with her, speeding up as she does, and slowing down when their path requires it.

Each time they stop at a stop sign or traffic signal, they don't stop, running in place. Marinette laughs when Chat Noir presses the cross button for the wrong crosswalk, and he returns the favor when she just barely stops herself from crashing to the ground again.

They don't talk much between catching their breaths, but it's still one of Marinette's most enjoyable runs to date. Turns out, running with someone- especially someone you like- makes the experience that much better, and when she thinks of what she could make for her project, ideas swarm her mind. She has a much more clear vision than before, but she's pretty sure chat Noir has more to do with it than the run itself.

When they finally come to a stop, they're both breathing hard, but they just smile at one another. When she raises her fist up to him, he connects his fist to hers. The touch is electric with no suit to keep them apart, but it fades just as fast.

"Bien joué!" she says, letting her fist drop.

"Bien joué, my lady."

"I'll see you later for patrol, okay?"

"It'll be my pleasure."

With an over-exaggerated bow, in typical Chat Noir style, he splits away from her, and she watches him until he disappears at his next turn. Feeling a little too warm for her hat, she just barely fights off the temptation to take it off; protecting her identity came first, but just barely. Her morning runs have never left her feeling so warm, and once again, she's pretty sure that she has Chat Noir to thank for that.

Turning away, she starts home, reinvigorated and ready to take on the rest of the day.

like fucking gaberial being a little less controlling, marinette ACTUSLLY being able to speak to adrien without dying, THE FRIEND GROUP and high school parties bc adrien and nino are 100% a dynamic duo that drinks so much that alya and marinette think they are going to have to get there stomach pumped but then they are back at it again next friday

also there group dynamic?????? immaculate

nino and marinette have been friends since diapers so they have a platonic- sibling like relationship i’m just going to pretend that nino tried to go on a date to make alya and adrien jealous

alya is a sworn #adrienagrestehater but ofc they are best friends, so much so thst in interviews adrien will praise alya for her work ethic and in the same breath say how he hates her more than hawkmoth. adrien just loves how alya is so real with him bc he’s so used to being worshiped.

alya and nino are obviously “so grossly in love i want to jump off a cliff” - marinette and adrien at some point- while adrien and mari and low key FWB

adrien specifically is low key a douche, playboy chat noiry but in the best way possible. like he flirts RELENTLESSLY with marinette after they become close, but MARINETTE FLIRTS BACK LIKE THE LEGEND SHE IS. she finds out what makes him blush and become bashful and stuff and goes OFF. they both are complétive so sometimes you would just walk into this type of conversation.

“- i thought you said you wouldn’t fall in love mari, but this blush of yours is telling me different,”

“maybe i’m just thinking of last night, hot stuff”

“what did you do? dream about us?”

“wouldn’t you like to know,”

“cmon baby, you know curiosity killed the cat. i know that i was dreaming about us,”

“who did i do, sunny. asking the wrong questions, but don’t worry! a blond head of hair was always in my mind”

at this point both of there cheeks burst red- because oh shit she’s not lying, well some parts at least- and people are gathering around, and some are believing her, meanwhile our two superheroes are trying to figure out if it was ACC true

adrien in his head, no doubt: did i kiss her last night? we watched that american movie and i kissed her forehead, but not mari also in her head- I WISH HE DID GIRL.

but some people in the class are dumb so they are like

“wow mari that’s low”

“didn’t know you were such a player”

“like she could pull him, ridiculous, utterly ridiculous”

mari starts to get a little stressed, her breathing picks up and adrien being adrien notices and causally slings his arm around her, a smug smile on his face

“trust me” he whispers in her ear.

“not possible”

“and how would you know?” lila has no longer trying to woo adrien, because tbh he’s so loyal it was too hard

“because i was with mari last night”

“well- well uh i was really late at night, like 2 am,”

“no no no lila, all night”

she scoffs

“and what were you doing last night,?”

“what do you think two tennagers who are very attractive and hot would be doing at 2 in the morning lila”

and that shuts everyone up real fast, and no one dares question it because his smug face with mari hiding in his chest beat red tell the whole story

“way to really tone down the situation,”

“my specialty darling,”

sarcastically she adds “nice ‘hot’ addition, btw”

he just laughs

imagine ms bustiers suprised walking into that class a minute later

also, tik tok love THE GROUP and lb and cn themselves. i imagine adrien having 10.2 mil on insta, alya 2.4 but the ladyblog 8 mil (she LOVED THAT SHE HAS MORE THEN ADRIEN combined “pucker up and kiss my ass buttercup”) nino’s producer acc has like 15 mil bc he collars with top artists like kanye, frank ocean, tyler and kendrick lamar and mari having 6.8 mil.

everyone thinks mari and adrien are ducking and post edits/ proof videos as to why.

adrien does in fact post thirst traps

mari had them all saved and downloaded.

adrien has some of maris too

they all have secret accounts where they post the funniest shit ever and comment on tiktok’s about them like “adrien i didn’t know you and mari have a child???? why didn’t you tell me!!”

TBH I think with the Adrien-HM debate, we need to look at the source material: everyone knows that ML is based on Spider-Man. Granted, Harry Osborn was never a superhero, and Norman's identity became publicized after he died. But Harry discovering that Peter is the one responsible for the death of his father forever recontextualizes their relationship. It haunts him and eventually drives him to supervillainy. He's wracked with grief and guilt and suffers several mental breakdowns. Ultimately, though, he chooses Peter over Norman after reconciling himself with Norman's abuse versus the true love Harry has found with his friends. This leads him back to the light.

So. Narrative wise. We just hit the Goblin's death. Now Harry needs to find Spider-Man's mask in Peter's room. The next step is for Adrien to find out the truth- but NOT from Maribug. The LadyNoir communication issues from S4 return with a vengeance and come out in the worst way.

Excellent fanfic material, but I highly doubt that it'd ever get that far in the actual show. At most, Adrien might try to give up the ring again. But I can't see him actually turning against Ladybug, and certainly not into full supervillainy.

(also while I think that could be fascinating to watch, I fear the wave of Adrien bashing that would result).

Miraculous Adventurer Au 2: Electric Boogaloo!

Hi again, it's me! So, quick story time! I was looking through my notes the other day and found a few more things for this Au. I completely forgot I never followed up on it, so here we goooooooooo!

Nah I'm kidding, context/recap first. This Au takes place in Fantasy Anime France, which is Medieval France...but better! Basically just a Medieval Au with adventurers guilds and monsters! Typical RPG shenanigans! Gabriel and Emilie are king and queen (she's alive by the way and Gabriel is more like Hesperia than Hawkmoth. Good guy.), with Adrien as their son. Amelie and Felix also exist in Lunden (London) which is obviously in England. Important note is that this setting isn't tied down to a specific century, I just wanted the vibes. We have vampires, syrens and mages anyway, realism was never a priority. Now...it just so happens that Prince Adrien and Princess Kagami (of an as-of-yet-undecided) eastern kingdom are married. Just follow me on this.

In terms of a recap: Marinette wants to go to the Capital (Paris) to attend a prestigious fashion academy, or at least to try and get in/get a fashion-related job. On her way she decides she needs more money for her trip, and picks up adventuring. Now...it just so happens that she meets a handsome "pro" at the job, named Chat Noir. So naturally, she doesn't give this guy her name yet, because he's a stranger. Marinette's first job is pretty simple. Pick up a sword, whack a couple wolves over the head because they haven't been letting an herblist go into the nearby forest, get paid. Unfortunately, the resident rogue in black leather decides to follow the pretty girl around. Low and behold, they end up fighting the few wolves side by side and turns out they make a pretty good team! Marinette doesn't exactly know how to swordfight anyway, she was basically bashing the wolves with the flat side of her sword.

And so begins the amazing partnership that will surely drive this poor girl insane! And because it just so happens that a ladybug lands on Marinette's face as they leave the battlefield, Chat of course has a new name for her. Ladybug the Scarlet Adventurer is born! And...it just so happens that the herbalist I mentioned last paragraph is named Alya. She is, in fact, a witch. Well...kind of. She specializes in illusion magic, which is completely useless for helping around her village in day to day work. So she got a part time job as a herblist to get some experience. And after being saved by Ladybug (as well as some heroic bragging from Chat Noir), they have their first fan! Back to the adventurer's guild they go, where Chat insists she keep all the money from the job, and urges Marinette to work with him again. He walks away, not giving her a chance to refuse, leaving her a little flabbergasted. I'm sure that won't be important later...

Now...do you all remember how I said that Prince Adrien and Kagami are married? And clearly, Adrien is also Chat Noir? So how can he be in two places at once? Why, Felix of course! Amelie and her son were visiting for the wedding preparations, which lasted a good few weeks, and he got to know Kagami pretty well. Naturally, they fell in love, especially since while she likes Adrien, Kagami isn't in love with him. So...with a bit of help from Amelie, they pulled the swicharoo! Adrien wanted freedom and to explore the country anyway, so why not let Felix (who clearly likes administrative stuff) take over and also marry the girl he loves? Therefore, Adrien Agreste has to hide his identity as the Prince of Paris, and I'm sure that won't be important later...

About Alya, she goes back to her village after getting saved by Ladynoir...and naturally, she decides to also take up adventuring because they've inspired her! What good is she doing wasting away in a small town anyway, when she could be traveling the world and exploring new places? Of course, she drags her boyfriend Nino into this mess almost immediately, since he happens to be a Bard. A DnD-style bard, where music is also (kinda) magic. He would have been perfectly happy to be a local celebrity in a small town if it meant staying with the girl he loves, but hey! If Alya wants adventure, consider him on board! Is it any wonder then that these two duos end up meeting eventually? Ladynoir has gone on a few more jobs, and they're slowly getting the hang of working together and beating up wolves, small smiles and the occasional bandit. So when they suddenly bump into DjWifi a few weeks later, and with a real chance to talk once Nino encourages Alya to push down her hero worship, Marinette and Alya hit it off and become good friends! Adrien is also really happy to have a friendly guy who treats him like a normal person, instead of "your highness" this and "my prince" that. Naturally, they all team up in a party of four! And so, the adventures continue!

I have waaaaay more to say about this Au, for example Max being a genius artificer, Kim being a sailor boy who falls in love with the pretty mermaid Ondine, Luka the travelling bard (and Marinette's ex), Juleka who is nursing a wounded (mermaid) Rose back to health on the Liberty (and also got bit by a vampire recently), and Chloe asking for the famous Ladybug and her team to go on a job for her. So yeah, the Adventurer AU is still alive and kicking! I'll be back with more details, but in the meantime feel free to AMA if you want! Anon asks are on! You know, the more I hear about the discourse surrounding toxic Ladynoir stans bashing other sides of the LS to prop up their ship, the more it really reminds me of the behavior of toxic luka//nette stans constantly trashing on the LS just to say how much their ship better than it. Especially the bullying behavior...

Bruh, don't I know it 😩 it also gives me that particular brand of MC stans that claim MC is the true selves side and better than all the others because the other sides are fake or whatever. The thing that makes me 🤨🤨 the most are the ones that claim Adrinette aren't friends or didn't have any development or something, and I'm like they've literally been friends since s1? And been making small strides every season to get closer?? Just because Marinette stammers around him doesn't take away from that? And guess what? They're finally addressing the stammering this season. It's just wild to me how people feel the need to shit on the same two people they're propping up. Or act like they've been robbed somehow because their ship literally became canon just not wearing the hats they wanted.

I absolutely love Adrinette to pieces and have loved every ounce of their development this season, but if canon had doubled down on LadyNoir instead, I'd have been happy too? I have no harsh feelings toward LadyNoir at all, I love them too. They're the same people, and I know that any development for them that brings them closer is good. Adrinette is healing, and that's so wonderful. LadyNoir are embracing each other in ways they never dared to before, and there's no pressure or fighting over feelings. They're happy. Isn't that enough?

Kwamibuster what-if and the soulmate AU where they always have to touch

Please and thank youuuuu 💕

In this soulmate AU, lovesquare's soulmark is that after first physical contact, they must always touch one way or another or else they'll be in excruciating, devastating pain (a contrast to my last soulmate AU oneshot where if they touched, they will be in pain, lol).

Ladynoir realise they were soulmates after their first meeting and both of them couldn't have been happier! Whilst Chat Noir would love for them to be in a romantic relationship with her and even know her identity, Ladybug insists that they keep it platonic (despite her growing romantic feelings for him) and keep their civilian lives a secret until they defeat Le Papillon.

However, this setup is already quite a struggle. It's hard enough that their magical suit covers up most of their bodies which leave very little exposed that allows them to have contact to alleviate the fatigue and aches (such as Chat Noir resting his head in Ladybug's neck or her pressing her cheek against his as they embrace); they both also find out that the further away they are from each other in terms of physical distance, the worse the pain gets.

Thankfully, she didn't come here without a plan of her own, hoping that what she's about to suggest next won't be as embarrassing (and heart-racing) as her brain made it out to be.

"I do have an idea to help us. It's a bit of a gamble...but I believe that if this works, we won't be forced to share our identities." She spoke after his laughter died down, her partner now observing her curiously in a manner that was so like his namesake. "I've noticed that when our faces touch, the pain is quicker to leave compared to when our heads touch or when we feel each other's hair against our face. So...so..." Ladybug was starting to lose her nerve, her complexion now reddening for a completely different reason. She silently cursed herself, hating the way that she can't be cool and professional about her proposal and how she felt so, so very Marinette right there and then.

Like the bumbling, stammering fool she often found herself turning into, especially when Adrien was involved.

But Adrien wasn't here right now! It's only Chat Noir! Her loyal, wonderful, amazing partner! Her soulmate! The person that she trusts her entire life and being with!

"Ladybug?" He tilted his head, golden hair following the movement and all that did was reignite her nerves and soothe her at the same time. A bundle of contradicting and familiar and foreign emotions that swam inside her frame. Not wanting to waste anymore of their precious time, she took a leap of faith and proceeded with her solution.

"I think we should press our mouths together! Just one quick press! That should hopefully slow down the pain that will come once we're apart, right???" Her voice cracked midway and her pitch was higher than a squealing kitten, much to her sheer fluster. Though, her partner only barely comprehended her words and was left in a bit of a stupor.

"You're not going home to rest?" Adrien finally asked after sitting at the side patiently (on the outside) when the nurse gave Marinette a check up. She smiled at him sweetly despite her exhausted features, unable to stop the bashful giggle that left her mouth. "I'll rest for an hour over here. I'm fine, Adrien." She then began to fiddle with the blanket and averted eye contact, unable to handle the intensity of his worried face. "You should go back to class. I know you love school and hate having to miss out so-" She was interrupted from the way he immediately clasped both of her hands with his larger pair, the boy now sitting by her side on the bed. She couldn't look away from him.

"You're more important to me than school, Marinette. You mean a lot to me. A lot." He squeezed her fingers as an emphasis, his forehead so close to brushing hers and her breath was simply taken away. "You've been worrying me a lot, lately. All of us are a little scared right now with what's been going on. Are you sure that the doctor didn't find anything at all when you asked about the constant nosebleeds and migraines you've been getting?"

Ah. Shit.

She hasn't been as good at hiding her current state from her friends as well as she hoped. And of course, the doctor wouldn't be able to find a solid cause for her symptoms.

After all, this is all because she wielded multiple miraculous all at once when she faced Kwamibuster a month ago.

And her tiny body couldn't handle the influx of all that magic at once, resulting into its present state.

But she can't tell Adrien that. She can't tell anyone at all. Absolutely not.

(And she refuses to let her Chaton know either...)

"I'll get better soon," She answered softly, trying her best to ignore the dwindling confidence in her words and hoping to cheer up her pauvre Adrien. He already had so much going on in his life that made him miserable, she refuses to add to his list of stresses and dampen his smile. "The doctors prescribed me with strong painkillers which work very well. I'll be back to normal in no lime- I mean time!" Much to her dismay, he didn't seem convinced at all and his eyes remained cloudy. This time he let his forehead rest against hers, her pulse fastening from the proximity and their hearts beating in sync.

I'm not liking the fact that hearing about certain Ladynoir stans are reminding me of toxic Luka//nette (or anti-Love Square) shippers. Especially, with them bashing Adrinette and the shippers to prop up their own and crying bad writing for not making their ship become canon. You know, like CERTAIN blue one stans who would go and bash Adrien and Adrinette just to say how Marinette and the blue one are the superior together and ALSO cry bad writing at the show for not making it canon.

And again, it's stuff they criticize salters, especially anti-LS people, for doing but they act the same way when it comes their own kind of ships.

Mending Warped Designs: Deconstruction Site

Paris, France

Nino slid a box off the top shelf, kicking the closet door closed as he dragged the box over to his desk in a study he shared with Alya. There were few things that made him nervous these days; being nigh invincible meant that the world was running out of things to seriously hurt him with. But sitting around while Alya was on patrol without him always set his teeth on edge.

Maybe it was just a reminder that his shield had its limits.

"Where the hell did I put that stupid DVD…" Nino muttered, rifling around the box for a movie he promised Chloe he had tucked away somewhere. If he had to go back out to the living room and admit that it would be easier to rent it on the internet, he would never hear the end of it. And the last thing he needed was to give Chloe one more thing to needle him over.

The fact that she was still crashing with them made things all the more complicated.

He liked to think he and Alya were on the same page about the direction their life was going; college, marriage, careers, and kids (maybe). But Chloe, as she always did, seemed to complicate things to the point where the map he had in his head no longer worked for them. Or maybe he was just pushing off responsibility onto Chloe so he didn't need to worry about where he stood with Alya.

Rifling around in the box, Nino paused as his hand landed on a worn newspaper clipping stuck to the underside of a picture frame. He could see his younger self, smiling with his arm wrapped around Rena Rouge on one side with a bony black arm jutting out from behind the frame on the other. Carefully, he tried to tug it out, wriggling his hand gently to avoid ripping it in-

"Did you find it or do you owe me thirty euros plus the cost of Zoolander on streaming services?"

Rip!

Chloe's voice over his shoulder startled Nino and the newspaper came apart in a sudden rip with a Chat Noir's disembodied arm dangling off the corner of the page.

"Ooh, hope that wasn't important," Chloe said with a wince as Nino fished the other half of the picture out of the box. It was an old pic taken around the time they were sixteen, fresh off an Akuma fight and looking happy to be alive. On the other side, Ladybug had her arm wrapped around the waist of a weathered-looking Chat Noir.

"It used to be," Nino said, laying the torn picture on the table and lining it up as best he could. "Hasn't been for a while, I guess."
