Notice that fan on the ground aimed at Michael? Yeah, that was probably the only form of AC this whole building had. Okay, exaggeration. There may have been a second one somewhere. I literally just bought some cooling cloths because of this venue. Next time, I'll be prepared for the heat 👍

BECAUSE YOU DEMANDED IT, I'm back with more Sad Boat Books for Sad Boat People! But first, some words.
I never dreamed that a silly little graphic I made for some friends would generate this much response on twitter and here, but I'm overjoyed that it resonated with so many of you! I read every single comment and tag, and by far my favorites are all of the people who say some variation of "I thought I was the only one who loved these books." We are NOT alone, there are literally thousands of people who reblogged or retweeted this list-- people of all ages and backgrounds and gender identities. Sad Boat isn't just for old white men! I was also delighted to hear from other librarians who are using this in displays and for reader's advisory. PLEASE go forth and do so with my blessing, nothing would make me happier! I was recently laid off from my librarian job as part of a restructuring under new management (don't worry about me, it sucks right now but I'm gonna be fine), so I would love to think that I'm still contributing to the library ecosystem while I'm out of commission. I would also love to keep making these lists (including one that deals with Sad Boat fiction and one with recommendations for other types of media), and I've never had more time to do it, so if you have suggestions, please drop them in my inbox!
Anyway, enough of that-- here are more books! I've either read all of these, or the recommendation came from someone I trust, so read with confidence!

Domestic life with the book guys featuring the Twisted series by Ana Huang
*In honor of the fact that I have been so stressed my period came a whole two weeks early (live, laugh, love) please enjoy the absolute outpour of content this following week :)
Alex Volkov (Twisted Love by Ana Huang)
If we are going strictly off of Alex's character in Twisted Love it can be safe to assume that he is not going to be warm and mushy. This does not mean that there won't be any larger than life proclamations of love (I mean this man dropped 40k easy on a painting just because his girl wanted it), but he isn't going to be doing anything over the top in public
Following the previous point if you are expecting PDA I hate to tell you the most you'll be getting is maybe some light hand holding and a very quick hug
If there is a book man who is the definition of introverted I so see Alex fitting that description
He may not tell you he loves you verbally, but there are other ways he shows you. He might keep your favorite snacks in stock at the house so you never run out. He is going to have all of your favorite games and movies at the house so if you ever want to stay in you're able to.
Now if we're going off of Alex's character development throughout the Twisted Series and further on we can tell Alex is slowly coming out of his shell. He is still severely introverted, but he clearly is getting better at mild PDA.
Alex is as Taylor Swift would say Midnight Rain and he honestly just needs someone who will either be an absolute ray of sunshine or loves to dance in that rain (metaphorically speaking of course he would never actually want to dance in the rain for fear of getting you sick)
As we can clearly tell that man is constantly dropping a pretty penny on whatever you want. Looked a little too long at the purse in the window and boom it's wrapped up on the table when you get home. Mention wanting to read a book ONCE and he has it delivered in hardback (it's also autographed duh)
As far as like living together domestic life this man is spotless. He doesn't leave dirty dishes, dirty clothes, literally anything behind. He keeps control of his life in the form of keeping everything clean, orderly, and planned out.
This clearly follows into the bedroom because this man is never ever going to give over control. "Oh he might be a switch" No. Nope. Never. Don't see it happening sorry.
Alex is clearly not a very words of affirmation person, but quality time seems important to him. He will never admit it, but he is a cuddler like big time. Short of it being a quickie this man is not having sex with you and not getting his cuddles afterwards. Would he rather die than admit this to anyone ever? 1000x yes However as clean as this man is he is not laying in dirty sheets.
He wasn't given a proper upbringing and spending time with you doing mundane tasks around the house heals part of his inner child. You need to go to the grocery store? He's right there pushing the buggy. You need to wash dishes? He is ready to dry and put them up.
Rhys Larsen (Twisted Games by Ana Huang)
This man is about as protective and possessive as they come do we need to revise the chapter on him threatening to burn down parliament? *enter swooning here*
He is a sucker for safety because if anything happened to you that he could have prevented everyone better be praying
PDA is all based on timing. Rhys can read a room and he knows when he gets to let them know you're his and when it's not appropriate
Rhys is former military and he has gone through a lot. This man is a shell of who he used to be and the book clearly showed us that, however Rhys is the perfect example of how if you are broken once before that you won't remain broken forever. He struggles with PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), technically it's known as C-PTSD (Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). He is so used to giving up control to follow orders that sometimes he just needs to be reminded he's human and that regardless of the outcome everything will be okay.
He loves going on vacations where you can just get away from the world for a while and turning off the buzz of everything going on
As a way to cope with his C-PTSD Rhys uses drawing to relax. You'll often find little scraps of paper around the house with his sketches on them.
It's hard for Rhys to open up, but when he does you understand it was well worth the wait
Say what you want, but I firmly believe Rhys is a switch. This man could truly go either way and I think it depends on the situation. He doesn't have very many "no's" but if anything could seriously hurt you he is not down for it. He is covered in enough scars left by others that he would never want to take a risk that could leave you with that same lifelong reminder.
This man is the kind to show up at 3am with a dog he found on his way home and how he's only allowed to stay for one night and you end up keeping the dog forever
His phone screensaver is literally a photo of you and the dog because let's be real he can't pick a favorite
This man is a slut for emotional intimacy
If you told him "Oh I got you this cause I remembered you liked them", "I heard this song and thought of you", or "I thought you might like this" he is going to be thinking about it for forever
Rhys is going to make it well known that you're his girl
Josh Chen (Twisted Hate by Ana Huang)
*I have to say Josh is my least favorite, but I will try to do him justice*
This man is a doctor (and a bit of an ass tbh) so he would not trust anyone else to take care of you, if you get sick it's Dr. Chen to the rescue
He loves bringing you random food at work, but he also has a really tight schedule being a doctor and all so if he can't deliver it in person he will have it waiting on you when you get home
Let's be real Josh's personal life is a little bit of a mess and I wouldn't expect anything different from him on how he would keep a house. There would be rumpled clothes all over and the bed might never get made. He would pick up his trash, but if the dishes didn't make it in the dishwasher they were simply waiting till next time to get done.
Now Josh is nothing short of a playboy for the most part so the idea of him settling down will definitely be an adjustment.
Due to Josh being a doctor and still working to pay off his student loans he can't really afford fancy vacations or expensive gifts. Josh really loves just eating cheap takeout with you and watching movies
We all know Josh isn't the best with his words and is really hot headed, this often leads to Josh more so apologizing and a rather decent amount of makeup sex
Josh is the definition of all out rough, break your back like a glow stick sex. He's going to degrade you and yet have you coming back for more every single time. He's cocky and quiet honestly he has a few good reasons to be
He is more likely to fuck now and ask questions later it's just the Josh Chen way
Emotionally intimacy? Josh doesn't know her (maybe a little) but this man is more likely to have you open up to him before he ever opens up to you. He's been betrayed by some people who were incredibly close to him before and he will be damned if he makes that mistake ever again
Christian Harper (Twisted Lies by Ana Huang)
Rhys and Christian are big buddies so it makes sense that they are going to be extremely similar, but different in their own little ways
Christian has little use for moral code and much less what society deems as correct, but if you deem it correct than he is going to break his back bending over backwards to make that happen for you
Christian is the grumpy cat of the group. Sassy, grumpy and yet just the perfect combo of attractive to have that attitude forgotten (almost)
He runs his own security company and if you think he goes overboard for his clients you have no idea how overboard he will go for your safety
He is the definition of a German Shepard boyfriend; looks scary, fiercely protective, and is willing to chase down the mail man if he threatens you
Christian is a make his own rules type of man. If you're uncomfortable or upset he doesn't give a single crap he is going to do what makes you happy
You know this man makes note of everything single thing you like; your favorite drinks, your favorite movies, which friends annoy you the most and why (Christian is an honorary girlie he loves all the tea)
This man is petty to the T
If something small annoys him he is going to remember it until the day he dies
Opening up is hard for Christian and I think it would take a lot to get the point where he is open to freely sharing information with you
He is more likely to tell you about something that bothers him on a small day to day basis than telling you the big stuff from his past
Christian knows that he is the physical embodiment of big dick energy and does not disappoint
I really don't ever see Christian not being dominant, but hey I could be persuaded to think otherwise given the situation. I just don't personally see it
This is a man gives off the vibes of being downright obsessed. If you made cookies that tasted like straight up saw dust he would eat them all to see you smile before you would be able to pry the truth about how bad they were out of him

Lady C Tea YouTube 3/7/24 (a few nuggets paraphrased by me) by u/daisybeach23
Lady C Tea YouTube 3/7/24 (a few nuggets paraphrased by me) Greetings from Castle Goring, Lady C, the recent photo of Carole Middleton and Catherine looks like it was photoshopped. The image was blurred and there was no security anywhere. I don’t think it is a fake and I am delighted it was taken. I don’t think it was Karl Larsen who took the picture but I wouldn’t put it past him to have someone else do it. I have nothing against the paparazzi. To some extent, public figures should expect that their pictures will be taken when they are in public. I think it is a good thing that picture was taken. It silenced a lot of people. I am sure in the fullness of time, we will know the nature of Catherine’s situation. People should be assured she is on the mend and will be ok for the next 50 years.Lady C, is Carole Middleton and Catherine upset at Carole’s brother Gary for appearing on Celebrity Big Brother? I read they were worried that even if Gary didn’t say anything in particular about the Royal Family, the media would spin things out of context. The media always spins things out of control. That is the name of the game. It is all about creating sensationalism and driving up ad revenue. My understanding is Gary is a free agent and multi-millionaire. I do not think he has embarrassed the family. He is known as a “character” and the British loves characters. We can tell he doesn’t like Meghan and Harry but it is not malicious to not like somebody. Gary has been clear to say his niece Catherine is a lovely person and that Meghan Markle has rewritten history. Everybody knows Harry was close with his brother and Catherine. Now Catherine has been tarred by the Meghalian brush. Now she is “cold.” I don’t think the Middleton family is very concerned. It looks to me that people like Uncle Gary because he seems very authentic. Uncle Gary may become a national treasure.Lady C, have you heard about the woman who said she had a relationship with Harry years ago and is now threatening to post pictures on Only Fans? I found it hilarious. What do you think of it? Again, I love Americans. They are so to the point. When Harry was cavorting nude at the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas, she was a part of it. Harry was a willing participant. If she has photographs of him, it is good, clean money. Especially after Harry violated the woman who he described his first sexual experience with. Harry has very nastily violated people’s privacy, he should receive the same. And remember, Harry will not be looking to proud. We will see him at his very worst. Shall we say, retractive. If anyone deserves this, it is Harry. If he was a good, decent person, I would have a different view because Harry takes advantage of everyone in every situation.Lady C, the Duke and Duchess are demonstrating poor planning and poor judgement. If some covert plan was at work, they would be more careful. This is my point. They are two lone wolves hunting together. They have appalling judgement. They are impetuous. She used to be able to exercise good judgement but then she got a taste of exercising narcissistic rage.

(Quick reminder due to past events:
Guys, there are real people behind these blogs. We may be separate from our characters, but that does not mean we cannot be affected by what people send to them.
If what you want to send conflicts with any of the boundaries set in our pinned posts, then don't send them. Those boundaries are there for a reason, and the people that don't know when to stop are the reason they are there in the first place.
Do not pin the blame on something like insomnia, autism, ADHD, bipolar, or any of that. YOU are responsible for what you send, and YOU need to know when to stop.
If you do this kind of thing on the regular, do not be surprised when people block you and tell other blogs about you so they can block you. You are actively making this site a worse place for communities like us, and you have no place in our little corner of the internet.
So either clean up your act, or you can fuck right off.
This is Mod SCA, signing off.)

Earth Day 2024
April 21, 2024, update: . . . " the average global temperature on Earth has increased by at least 1.2° Celsius (1.9° Fahrenheit) since 1880 (it increased 0.4° Celsius since 2016). There is only 0.3° Celsius of increase left before we hit the first tier of cataclysmic thresholds, according to environmental scientists.
According to an ongoing temperature analysis led by scientists at NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS), "the average global temperature on Earth has increased by at least 1.2° Celsius (1.9° Fahrenheit) since 1880 (it increased 0.4° Celsius since 2016). The majority of the warming has occurred since 1975, at a rate of roughly 0.15 to 0.20°C per decade. . . . . The data reflect how much warmer or cooler each region was compared to the base period of 1951-1980. (The global mean surface air temperature for that period was 14°C (57°F), with an uncertainty of several tenths of a degree.)"
Adding to this is the growing number of methane sinkholes, each releasing several gigatons of gas per day. This growing phenomenon is changing all the current climate projections. Indeed, we might already have reached the climate tipping point.
There was a time when we believed that we were the center of the universe and that we should have dominion over the Earth. But then Copernicus came along, who asserted that the Sun is indeed the center of our solar system, the Moon being the only body that revolved around the Earth. I'm sure you know that this resulted in a bit of an uproar. As for the dominion idea, our use of resources, overhunting, and factory farming of animals has contributed to climate change and the current sixth extinction. Watch Marvin Gaye's video, Mercy, Mercy Me (The Ecology), released in 1971.
The following two photos show a contrast between Greenland's Tunu Glacier in 1933 and 2013. This melt-back is characteristic of ice all around the world, though melt-back varies widely, depending on location.

It wasn't so long ago that Carl Sagan and climate scientists started sounding the alarm that we were going down a dangerous path. Subsequent climate data has revealed that those early projections vastly underestimated what was happening, since we now know that climate change is not a linear but an exponential process. That is, it happens faster and faster over time.

The now famous photograph of Earth as a pale blue dot was taken on February 14, 1990 by the deep space probe, Voyager 1, from a record distance of about 6 billion kilometers (3.7 billion miles). The more recent
Via Cassini
photograph was taken by the deep space probe, Cassini. Though more striking with Saturn in the foreground, it also shows how Earth is but a spec in the cosmos. As Sagan said in his book: Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. (Carl Sagan, The Pale Blue Dot, 1994)
People often say we have to save the Earth. Not so! The Earth will go on just fine without us. The issue is preserving the current biosphere that supports us and the other higher vertebrates. There will always be life on the planet so long as there's liquid water. As I present every year, here is my fictionalized account of our worst scenario. Let's do better!

You take a moment to observe your surroundings as you stand beside Eyk in a landscape that should not exist on a ship. You find yourself in a forest which you do not recognise but when you look at Eyk to ask where you were it was clear that he knew exactly where you were. You see the funny thing about the simulations is that with each new attempt something small or big will change. Most of the time it is a small bit you can never know until you encounter the change. There were two things you could always rely on however, one, you were always aware you were in a simulation from the very beginning and, two, Eyk would alway find his way back to you. It seems in this version of the simulation Eyk's past had changed.  “Eyk? Where are we?” You ask as you gently touch his shoulder. Eyk doesn’t respond to you, instead he starts to run through the woods towards an unknown goal.“No, no, no...” Eyk mutters as he runs.“Eyk! Wait!” You shout chasing after him. Somehow you manage not to lose him as you make your way into a clearing. “Jesus Christ! Eyk where are we...” Your voice teeters out as your eyes land on a house in the center of the clearing.“Nina?” His voice is barely above a whisper as he looks at the young girl in the window. Just then another figure comes to the window for you to see this one seems older, closer to Eyk’s age. As soon as she enters your line of sight flames erupt behind the two.“Oh shit...Eyk!” You grasp his arm as he looks like he is about to run in. “Eyk! No...” there is a struggle to keep him from rushing forward, “it isn’t real! You can’t save them, please stop struggling.” Your soft begging voice seems to snap him back to the present reality as he stops struggling, seeming to notice you for the first time since you had entered his memory.“Y/N what is going on? What do you mean this isn’t real? this is my memory, my dream, how are you even here?” The man turns to look at you grabbing your shoulders to keep you from backing away even though you both know you had no intention of leaving him anytime soon.“Eyk that is a very complicated and difficult question to answer...I don’t know how to tell you this...I never do though you think I would eventually get better at this.” You say the last part to yourself but given your close proximity he can hear every word.“What do you mean?”“It’ll be easier to just show you follow me.” You grab his hand leading him away from the fire and into a new memory, this one belonging to you.

You walk into your apartment and are hit by the delicious smell of dinner being cooked. Gently placing your bag on the ground you make your way into the kitchen. Upon entering you find Eyk standing with his back to you cooking over the stove with light background music playing. You smile lightly to yourself thinking about just how lucky you are to have him in your life. Silently you make your way up behind him wrapping your arms around his toned middle and resting your head between his shoulder blades.
“Hello..” Comes your muffled voice as you nuzzle your nose deeper into his back.
“Hello my star, how was your day?”Eyk chuckles upon hearing your groan in response to his question.
“Long,” You grab a bite of whatever it is he was cooking before taking a seat on the countertop. “My boss is such a piece of work sometimes I really can’t stand her you know!” Eyk in the meantime has resumed cooking, nodding along as you rant on and on about your day. Eventually you stop rambling and just watch as he cooks admiring his beauty. “I love you.”
“I love you too,” he pauses what he is doing to walk up to you standing between your legs. “What do you want?”
“Am I not allowed to just say I love you?”
“No,” He smirks at you. “Now, what do you want?”
“Ugh...Fine you caught me. I would like a kiss from my handsome husband please.” Eyk grins at you.
“Very well what the woman wants she shall receive.”  He leans in and kisses you softly cupping your face in his hands. All too soon you two are forced to pull away from each other.
“Umm Eyk?”
“Yes my love?” he seems slightly lost in a trace so you can’t really blame him for not noticing what you had noticed.
“I think something is burning...”
“Shit!” He exclaims rushing over to the stove but it was too late.
“I’ll order us a pizza.” You giggle hopping off the counter and placing a light kiss on his cheek as he huffs out some air in frustration
Tumblr media
Eyk looks at you after you show him your memory, his hand gently raising to cup you cheek. For the first time in all the attempts at the simulation he says something that truly shocks you.
“I remember.” With those two simple words spoken so softly and with such tenderness it reduces you to tears.
“You...you remember?”
“Yes I am so sorry for my beautiful North Star. It all makes sense now why I always looked to you for directions why I always find you in a crowd. You always have shined the brightest. Thank you for helping me remember.”
