There's a little spot under the bleachers that secretly used to be your favourite place in the whole world.

It's still your favourite place even if Eddie wasn't around to share it with. The two of you had been avoiding each other since that stupid argument over a week ago.

Was it a breakup? No. That was stupid. "This doesn't mean anything, so why don't we just stop all of this bullshit" Eddie had snapped, and you pretended that it didn't hurt your heart, leaving your very secretive fantasies as wishful thinking.

So you agreed and yelled, "Fine!" and it was fine. You didn't care about Eddie Munson. The more you pretended, the easier it was to just ignore these other feelings, the feelings that had you up late at night and worrying about what the hell was going on.

It was stupid, though, because the two of you obviously hated each other; these feelings you had were nothing; they'd go away.

So why couldn't you stop thinking about him? This was ridiculous, bad enough the two of you had that moment a few weeks ago. A moment you couldn't stop thinking about but now this?

It was easier when he was just someone who was hot as hell and who you hated, yet had incredible sex with.

Now everything was just complicated.

It was one of those parties that Jason would throw in the middle of the school year, normally you wouldn't even dream of going to these things without your friends, but you had a point to prove.

Eddie would be there and you had put on your best outfit and watched as his jaw dropped when you made your way past him, he was nursing a beer and scouring for the usual clientele who wanted weed to go with their drinks.

Some girl was hanging around Eddie and making eyes at him, not like you cared. Even if there was a clench in your heart at the sight of Eddie flirting back, that soon went away when you were asked to dance by Brad, one of Jason's friends.

He wasn't really your type but you saw the way Eddie's eyes narrowed when Brad was talking to you. You walk past Eddie and stop just for a second, smirking at him.

"If I didn't know any better, I'd say you were jealous, Eddie?" you tease him and he scoffs, rolling his eyes.

"You think what you want princess" he nods as Lauren or Laura or whatever her name is scowls at Eddie who's no longer paying her attention.

"Well if you don't care then I'll take Brad up on his offer, have a nice time with Laurie" you shrug nonchalant.

"Maybe I will" he turns away from you and you storm away from him. Ugh Jackass.

If there's an ache in your heart when you leave then you do your best to ignore it.

It was freezing, you were not in the mood to deal with Jason and his stupid comments about your dance with Brad, you were slightly tipsy and craving something... craving Eddie to be here with you but he was no doubt too busy with Miss giggles.

"Brad end up being a dud sweetheart?" As if by magic, Eddie is there beside you and lighting up a cigarette as he watches your reaction.

"He talked about football for over ten minutes, I didn't even see him take a breath and was seriously beginning to worry for him. I don't know why you care. Isn't Lucy enough attention for you?" there's that stupid smirk on his face again, but then he turns serious.

"Stop fucking around princess. You don't want Brad and I don't want Lauren, he emphasises, look let's both cut the bullshit yeah?" his hands caress your hips and your stubborn resolve to ignore him begins to soften.

"She was all over you. She's pretty and more your type than I am. Why don't you want her?" you peer up at him curiously.

"She's not my type. Funnily enough, it's you who drives me absolutely crazy and who I can't stop thinking about. Shit, I swear I can't stand you sometimes but then you uh...you look at me like you are now and I can't remember what it is that drives me so crazy"

Well damn. "I thought you wanted this thing between us to end?" you point out and he shakes his head. His big brown eyes are incredibly distracting.

"No, no I didn't, that's why I'm here to make things right" he murmurs softly and he closes the distance between you and kisses you. The second his lips meet yours it's the strangest feeling, it's like you've found where you belong.

Here under a moon lit sky, kissing Eddie Munson. He pulls away and you tentatively rest your head on his chest.

"What are we? What is this, Eddie? It was only meant to be hate sex, just tooling around," you ask him as his arms wrap around you, pulling you closer. It's absolutely not that anymore.

"I don't know, princess", he answers honestly, as the two of you just hold each other. You don't know either but it's clear you don't want whatever this is to end.

You know what I really loved about our little gay pirate show (you know, aside from everything)? It showed us that we don't have to be what we are today if we don't want to. That doesn't mean it'll be a quick change, in fact, it'll be a pretty long journey depending on what it is, but it showed us that things CAN change. It gave us just that little bit of hope, that things don't have to stay the way they are, and that little bit of hope is the spark of so much possibility. Redamancy: Chapter Sixteen

Getting involved romantically with a vampire - what’s there to lose?

Everything, apparently.

To include my sanity, my piece and fucking quiet too.

“Did you finally scare him off? Or did he realize he could do better and run for the hills?” Lauren Mallory sneers, Forks High School’s resident bitch.

Her manicured hand slowly slides up my locker door and snaps it shut, I manage to snatch my hand back in time to avoid the thin metal before it could do any damage.

Rolling my eyes, I turn and head towards my next class silently, not in the mood to engage for fear of tossing fuel onto her fire. I can hear her cackle as I walk away, thankfully she doesn’t follow or I would’ve truly lost it.

Rounding the corner and finally out of her line of sight, I beeline for the nearest bathroom. Stumbling in, I push open the closest unoccupied stall and sit on the toilet, bag in my lap.

Eyes closed, deep breaths, it’s fine. Everything is fine. Her words mean nothing and they’re empty, she’s an opportunistic cunt and doesn’t know the situation. Her words mean nothing, Y/n.

Except they plant a seed of doubt anyways.

He did run for the hills, they all did. I told him I loved him and nothing. Gone, erased from my life, ripped off like a stuck band aid that leaves behind a red welt and a slight sting.

Except there’s nothing slight about the sting in my chest. Breathe Y/n, or you’ll lose the fucking plot and freak. With shaking hands, I pull out a pack of gum and unwrap a stick - something minty to focus on.

Two quick knocks on the stall door break me from my thoughts, “Occupied!” I manage to choke out.

“It’s me, you alright?” Angela Weber’s quiet voice rings out in the otherwise empty bathroom.

“Oh um, yeah. I-I’m okay.” The tremble in my voice is obvious, but thankfully she affords me the nicety of not commenting on it.

“Okay, well I just wanted to check on you.” A pause, “I saw what happened in the hallway, she’s wrong you know.” My breath hitches and I know she hears it. “Everyone saw the way he looked at you… Just know, she’s wrong.”

I watch under my stall door as her white tennis shoes disappear and the main bathroom door swings shut, quickly swallowing a sob trying to worm it’s way up my throat.

Some days he feels like a figment of my imagination, a dream I dreamt and can’t discern from reality. And some days I’m reminded that he was real, that he made me feel things I can’t get rid of.

Things I really wished I could get rid of.

One of the worst side effects of them being gone is how lonely I didn’t realize I’d be without them. I mean, from my first day here Jasper captivated me.

Now… Now everything seems dull and draining. A different kind of quiet that leaves me empty, a complete opposite to his comfortable silence. No one to talk to, no one to look forward to seeing, no one that understands.

Well, one person understands.

But she’s not exactly here enough to carry a conversation. Not that I can blame her, I’ve been avoiding people in my own way. They either ask about them and why they’re gone or they look at me with pity, both of which I don’t care to experience.

The days begin blurring together, the rain that’s always pouring over the Olympic Peninsula drowns everything constantly - almost as if the sky is sad in solidarity with me. Music seems too itchy and loud, books are too hard to focus on to just read what’s on the page, and just about anything else I could think of to get him off my mind is too… Complex. Stressful. Monumentous. Impossible.

Three familiar rapid, but soft knocks at my door snap me from the reverie of my silent room.

“Dinner is ready, sweetheart.” I think the crease between my mother’s brow is a permanent fixture nowadays, one that’s entirely my fault.

“I’m not really hungry.” Watching her face fall immediately has me scrambling for a cover, “But I’m sure I’ll be hungry later if you save some in the fridge.” The smile I give her isn’t fooling anyone, but at least I’m trying.

I have to try.

“Okay baby girl, you say the word and I’ll heat it up for you.” She lingers a few beats longer, her grip on the doorframe looks like it’s the only thing keeping her upright before she retreats downstairs.

My mom isn’t the most involved in my life and I prefer it that way, but Jasper being gone… The way it’s affected me is also taking its toll on her and it’s obvious. Guilt begins worming it’s way into my chest and prickles at the corners of my eyes, fuck.

I have to try.

Life has been… extremely off-kilter since that night.

My hunger comes with a vengeance I’ve never experienced and my moods? They rival Rosalie’s and I’m supposed to be able to control them.

I’ve tried going longer between feedings to try and beat this crisis into submission, but it feels as though I’m fighting an uphill battle and I can’t see the crest of the mountain. I’m drowning and these feelings are dragging me further from the surface, the light is getting harder to see and my lungs are screaming.

Emmett hasn’t spoken to me this entire time out of frustration and I get it. The rest of my family is on pins and needles, the silence at home stretching open with every passing moment. Esme has been nothing but a pile of worry since Edward decided to become nomadic for a while. A temptation I myself feel, but can’t act on - not while my hunger is this volatile. Carlisle is working the night shift at a nearby hospital, our new location not as overcast as our previous one. Alice… Alice is angry. I catch her staring off into space more often than not and I know, the temptation to ask is on the tip of my tongue, but I can’t bring myself to. Rose is strangely quiet, content to take care of small things around the house Esme would normally busy herself with and trying to cheer her mate up to no avail.

It all feels too much and not enough.

I know that if I could sleep, I would dream of her. I would try to at least. Try to remember her scent, the softness of her sweaters, the curve of her hip, the way she sinks into me when I hold her… White-hot flames lick me from the inside out and I close my eyes against the inferno, her smile a torturous image behind my eyelids. Get a grip - for fuck’s sake, you chose this to keep her safe.

I chose this to keep her safe.

I will keep her safe. Even if that means staying away from her, even if that means removing her, my heart, from my chest.

“I love you.”

Her confession rips through me even now, three of the most perfect combinations of words to grace those beautiful lips and I… Left her. Like a coward.

I left behind my heart on the driveway of a now cold and empty house. Alone. Unanswered.

But she’s safe. Safe from the monster crawling around under the surface of my skin, begging and pleading to be set free.

Safe from me.

Do you have any headcannons with Abigail x Fem! Reader? (Totally okay if not!) & if not, is there anything you would like to share about her?

Hey! So good to hear from you! I've followed your blog for awhile! :) I'm a sucker for Abigail, too. It's a problem. I have actually lots written for Abigail! If you look at my Abigail Roberts x reader tab, you'll find a lot of things. There are some prompts that you'll have to scroll through to get to the writing, but it's there! So, I decided to do something I've never done before and go with Modern AU! Abigail. I've never done that before and I thought it would be fun to try out. If you would prefer I write new hc's with canon, Abigail, that's fine, too! (Note: Lauren Cohan is my fc for Abigail in rp, so that's why she's here.)

Background: She grew up in the foster system after her parents passed away. She was an overachiever in high school and wanted to claw her way past the girl she was in the foster system. However, her dreams for college were put on hold when she became pregnant with Jack, and even more so once she became a single mother. She did underwear modeling and worked in a dive bar for extra money. (It seemed more likely FOR HER than her becoming an escort or a cam girl, but those are valid hc's.)

Four years later, she is amicably co-parenting with John and has an associate's degree in agriculture and business. Now, she has a small farm with fresh organic produce, animal goods like milk and eggs, flowers, and the occasional candle. She is happily in a relationship with the F!reader.

* You insist on helping her at the farmers' markets on the weekends, which is her busiest time selling products. She always attempts to talk you out of it, but you find it rewarding. You watch in awe as the businesswoman in her truly blossoms and the passion she has for her work. 

* You surprise her with wanting to visit other farmer's markets. Sometimes, it's "secret shopper" missions, but a lot of time, it's just holding hands, picking out products, and eating samples. 

* Lots of baths together! She loves to cuddle and the intimacy it can bring.

* You help her cook and bake a lot. She has a huge passion for it, but she just can't get the hang of it. I think she is better with cooking and baking in the modern AU than in canon, but she could still use some help. However, she can make a great chili! It's canonically her favorite food besides chocolate. 

* She can make a mean cocktail. She doesn't drink a lot anymore, but she loves wine, rum, and whisky. However, she worked at a bar while caring for Jack to help put her through school and learned a lot while waiting tables. 

* She is always so thankful for any time you spend with Jack. Liking Jack is a requirement. He comes first in any relationship. However, she does NOT expect you to babysit him, but she is incredibly thankful and falls in love with you a bit more each time you do something with him. 

* With you, she is used to being the big spoon, but she loves to be surprised with being the little spoon sometimes. 

* Blankets everywhere! Big chunky ones are her favorite. Example here: Her goal is to make her own! She is not really into the pillow craze. 

*She canonically loves chocolate. Bonus if the chocolate has a bit of liquor in it. It's her guilty pleasure, but she has to keep it far from Jack.  * Don't play a card game against her; you WILL lose. Especially poker. She's also great at board games. It was the only type of games the foster homes had. However, she doesn't play as many video games. You've been slowly introducing her to games. Right now, she likes to relax with Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing. She'll also play with Jack or watch you play games.

Lilith is often portrayed as a succubus who comes in the night as a "wet dream", and many talismans were created to protect men from her seductions. Her offspring also continued to plague Adam's descendants as succubi or vampires. Some speculate that Lilith is the origin of the Vampire myth.

In symbolic terms, Lilith may represent the female sexual energy that is subverted, repressed, and diabolized in "sky god" patriarchy. Within the constraints of Judeo/Christian/Islamic ethics, too often sexual expression itself has become sublimated or perverse instead of being regarded as sustaining or generative. It was my privilege to interview a Bay Area artist and musician, David Jeffers, who worked with Lilith as a healer and artistic inspiration. I was very moved by his observations.

"The pain of Lilith" he said, "is so much about the divinity of human pain. People often only identify with Lilith's rage, the woman who was cast out because She would not accept inequality. For me She is not that simple. If you can't go beyond Lilith's first door, which is rage, you're going to be stuck; you aren't going to penetrate the emotional mysteries beyond. Lilith is the most intelligent archetypal power to aid in understanding the mechanism that underlies our unconscious motivations, she is about the ability to connect the subconscious to the conscious mind, so that information can become usable in your life and on your path. Lilith is the bridge. People who are linear in their thinking suddenly find their world shattered when Eros shoots arrows at them. Or when they have an experience that is inexplicable or traumatic, something that cannot fit into the model they've organized their lives around. There are references in the Cabala to what is called "breaking the shell". The mind set of "what you believe" is the shell, and Lilith is about breaking the shell. You have to fall apart to be put back together; because that's the only way you can be reconstructed. i love video games but i'm not great at them. my favorite games of all time are omori, your turn to die, animal crossing new horizons, legend of zelda: breath of the wild (i haven't played totk yet, please no spoilers!!), spiritfarer, hades, good pizza great pizza, undertale, deltarune, pokémon emerald rogue, and story of seasons: pioneers of olive town. i'm looking forward to playing all the story of seasons games in the future!

my favorite plays are little women (adapted by kate hamil), dance nation, fences, the glass menagerie, equus, eurydice, a raisin in the sun, and especially the miracle worker.

Now I know I never shut up about this, but it is genuinely my favourite Anna/Sydney fic I've read! The dialogue is amazing, we've got a little bit of a mystery going on, and the girls are just in excellent form. It's rated Teen and is ongoing.

(The Meaning Of) Restoration by Jennifer-Oksana

Is it cheating to put a crossover on this list? I'd argue not, especially when it's as good as this one. The pairing is Lauren/Lilah from Angel, and while there's some very neat insights into BOTH characters, I don't think you have to be particularly familiar with Angel to enjoy it. It's rated Explicit.

woke up from a dream that i was watching a comedy revue presented by a company who famously - and i mean famously - had a huge giant gilded train set piece. and that was the draw. that was the joke. everyone was there for the train. the company knew it. the performers knew it. the audience knew it. the performers would say cheeky things like "i know you're only here for our big train but you have to sit through my bullshit set first". occasionally, they would lift the curtain, a la marilyn monroe over the grates, just to tease the audience. and the audience lapped that shit up. we went crazy just peeking the wheels of the train. we had such blue balls waiting to see this big, giant, gilded train set piece. but if we wanted to see the train in all its glory, we had to wait. and with every performer who bowed off stage, anticipation rose amongst the crowd who were now sitting at the edge of their seats, pulling their hair, biting their nails, and yelling, shouting to see the big magnificent bastard. and as the final performer wrapped up and the host returned to the stage to finally reveal what we had all be waiting for, my alarm went off.

A blog I wrote 4 years ago after reading Octavia Butler’s Parable series…

I will be rereading this summer since that’s when the story began.

My first two books of 2020 were written from the ever brilliant Octavia Butler. The Parable of the Sower, followed by The Parable of the Talents.

What a time to be reading Octavia Butler.

I have heard and seen Octavia’s name in so many Movement and organizing spaces. I was somewhat ashamed to say that I as a self-proclaimed sci-fi nerd and book lover hadn’t read any of her works, but was sure that I would love her based on so many Black womxn who said so. So I would add her to my list of favorites.

Forecast come true.

Reading Sower I couldn’t help but see myself in the protagonist, Lauren Olamina. Her hypersensitivity to feel what others feel, her leadership, her ability to vision. Her organizing for self and collective determination through Earthseed. Her father being a minister of faith, like mine. Even the setting of Sower felt like an eerie warning considering current events (this is touched on in Talents with President Jarret). Houselessness and gentrification, lack of access to healthcare, poverty, addiction, state violence... even the isms are present in Olamina’s world. Set in 2024-- four years from now-- it’s almost like the Parables are omens of what’s to come if we don’t get right. This is why I say Octavia was brilliant... she even predicted the “Make America Great Again” culture almost to a T.

They say all organizing is science fiction.

I can see this with shows like Star Trek and Doctor Who, and movies like the Star Wars franchise. Sci-Fi cultivates radical imagination and inspires self-determination. When you think about it from this perspective, we are all living in someone else’s dream. Or nightmare. All of the work we do on the ground shapes Change and creates bright new futures that once weren’t realized. When you think about it from a macro perspective, our ancestors did this work. They were determined to live their fullest lives, to further their bloodline, and to love despite systemic terror and oppression. Freedom fighters did and still do this work. None of us live in a vacuum, and decolonization is hard hard work. But we are literally breaking generational curses for the sake of ushering in Change and new DNA for us and our future children and so on. We are creating a new way of living just like Olamina did in the Parables.

Change starts within. Olamina was mindful of what she needed to do in order to create the Change she sought. She started with herself by reading, studying, and practicing survival tactics. She wrote down her thoughts, sat with her noticings. She kept her cards close to her chest until it was time to spread her new truths and by that point she had nearly embodied the Change she spoke so often about. By that I mean she practiced what she preached, so much so it was second nature to her. It was no surprise that (spoiler alert) she grew to be this great thought leader and pioneer when neared the end of her life. She spread Earthseed and planted thousands of new ideas and ways of living at a time when it was gravely needed (post-Pox). Even when people called her crazy along the way, she doubled down into what she knew to be true-- her noticings. She persisted nevertheless, even when she was outnumbered. Even when she was alone.

While I got a lot from Octavia’s Parable series, these lessons made the most lasting impression some week and change after I finished the series:

Speak with integrity

Document your noticings/truths

Live in right relationship with land

Be strategic

Ground in your convictions

Use your empathy as a strength

Trust your initial instincts

You fail the plan you plan to fail!

*deep breath* THANK YOU AAAAAA-

Okay. So. For starters, there’s Lauren Caster. She’s gone through many names bc she’s basically my self insert and I can’t seem to pick a name for myself so she’s been cycled through the name box—but she started out as Lauren caster so we stick with that(she’s also a character for a book my best friend and I are writing called Purple War, so)

Then we have Nes and Noah Caster(from the same book) They’re twin brothers who while still in the womb were cursed. Basically long story short, Lauren Caster was cursed by this woman with the intention of harming the children but it didn’t work. The boys ended up with purple(see what I did there?) splotches on their faces. Well—Nes ended up with large splotches somewhat mimicking vitiligo, and Noah ended up with millions of tiny freckles all over his face and neck and shoulders/arms(Nes is still bitter about it💀). They reside in a world where two sisters, the red queen and the blue queen, were at odds. The red queen was defeated years ago and her spirit was magically entombed in the ceiling above her throne. To summarize the book, Nes goes to steal from the royal vault, meets princess Atari(my bestie’s character. yes their names are a play on the game systems, that’s an even longer story if you wanna hear that too. It’s really really funny.) after being thrown in the dungeon, was let out and they begin to fall in love but while the two were snooping around the blue and red connected castles meant for the two queens to rule a purple kingdom together, they found the red queen’s throne room. Atari sat on it and was possessed. Where Noah comes in is he was the royal cook and helps Nes with pulling the red queen’s spirit out of atari(we haven’t completely ironed out the details of how).

The next character is also from the Purple War universe as well, and I actually have a picture of her if you scroll down to a tag game I was in, it’s on my blog. Her name is Aisling Bohdi. She’s a Dragonborn woman who’s parents were killed by a town they used to live on the outskirts on. Aisling was about 14ish when it happened, and she’d been out running errands and such in the next town over. When she returned she was chased by the townsfolk up a mountain trail and into a cave, where she lost the mob and resided for another roughly 7ish years. When she finally exited the cave, she met a man named Malek Bruce, the son of a lawyer and he actually practiced law as well, but in a falling out with his father, quit. He acts dumber than he is, and he’s got some major detective skills. Together the two end up going on a few adventures and wind up teaming up with nes, Noah and Atari to ultimately defeat the red queen in(get ready to come full circle) the Purple War(whoaaa!)

Now for someone not from purple war. Honeybee Vega. I’m extremely proud of her—and I had some art somewhere but apparently I deleted it in my desperately needed camera roll purge(I had over 65k in there dude, my storage was begging for it’s life constantly). Honeybee came from my dream smp phase(I’m aware of how cringe it is, but it got me through the hardest year of my life). She’s a humanoid honeybee with one human eye and one giant complex eye(the eyes visible on the sides of bees heads. Quick detour for a bee anatomy lesson bc they’re my favorite animals—they have two large complex eyes on the sides of their heads which humans who aren’t insane like me and love bees perceive to be their only eyes but depending on the type of bee, they can have more eyes on the top of their heads called simple eyes that are used to assist bees with sun orientation so they can navigate during the day.) anyway, she has a complex eye as well as a human one so her eyesight is very bad, bless her. I adore her, she’s one of my more visually complex characters. She also has wings, and used to be able to fly but during a war one of those wings were slashed and she was stabbed and almost died, had it not been for a friend saving her.

And that’s it! Those are my major ocs :) if I think of more I’ll add onto it.

Post-Jangle Ball Ramblings

I saw JB in Philly last night and it left me genuinely speechless. It was my first time ever seeing them live after ten years of obsessing over their content from afar, and it was everything I could have asked for or dreamed of. I HIGHLY encourage anyone who’s on the fence to get tickets. You won’t regret it.

Starkid means so much to me. I cannot begin to list all the ways they’ve helped me and changed me, and last night represented the fulfillment of a dream I’ve had since I was nine years old. I won’t get too corny here, mostly because nothing I could say would do justice to how much I love these artists and this community, but I wanted to say – thank you to everyone who made the past ten years of being a Starkid fan so special.

Bear with me here, because I have a lot of Feelings. Be aware this post does contain spoilers for Jangle Ball. Without further ado, my thoughts:

We been knew, but everyone is SO talented and seeing them perform was a magical, life-changing, incredible, unforgettable experience.

Also everyone looked ridiculously good and I am not ok. The variation in outfits was hilarious though. I’m not sure what they were told to wear, but it ranged from Lauren in a very sexy sheer top to Jamie in a festive red dress to Dylan just chilling in flannel. None of them looked like they were going to the same event and I loved it.

Janaya’s Stutter was iconic and I want to listen to it on repeat. Lauren’s background dancing was equally amazing despite the fact it induced a severe state of gay panic.

I wish we got more Show Stopping Number from Joey and James. I wasn’t sure anyone other than R*bert would be able to pull off that song and I’ve never been happier to be wrong. I actually think either of them would make a great Hidgens if Nick doesn’t want to take on the role.

Dylan blew me away. I knew he talented but tbh he completely stole the show in the first act with the Twisted numbers. Not only does he have an incredible voice, but his stage presence is ridiculous (and I made eye contact with him briefly. My life is complete. Now I can finally lay down and die.)

I loved the Status Quo parody and I was so glad to see JOEY perform it again (no shade to Alex and Mariah but they just can’t compare to the OG). I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – if they pulled a Taylor Swift and re-recorded all their old cast albums I would literally give them all my money. I love the old songs and it was so special to see them performed.

Queen B…I think I briefly blacked out. I honestly don’t listen to that song much because I’m not really one for rap, but I might start now. Lauren killed it. My favorite thing about her as a performer is how versatile she is. Not every one can pull off a number like that, but she did it effortlessly. I was equal parts terrified and aroused, which is exactly what that song should do. Shout out to Brian and James dancing backup. The dancing in this show truly blew me away. I was not expecting that many choreographed numbers given how little they rehearsed, and I’m so glad (and impressed) that they managed to do it. It just brought the energy up and was so fun to watch.

A lil nitpick: I get that Cup of Roasted Coffee, Stutter, Show Stopping Number, and the Wiggly Jingle are technically villain songs but they don’t really give that energy? And Deck the Halls, We Got Work to Do, Climate Change, and Status Quo are straight up not villain songs. I liked the whole “ the villain is capitalism” angle but tbh when I heard they were performing villain songs I was expecting like…Wagon on Fire. Rogues Medley. Kick It Up a Notch. The classic Starkid villain songs, you know? I LOVED the set list as it was and I wouldn’t trade it for anything but I think there was a tiny flaw in marketing. And now I’ll get off my soapbox.

I try to keep my Richpez shipping off this blog but holy shit, I need to freak out for a minute. In person or through a screen, their love, pride, affection for each other is palpable. They way Lauren looks at Joey while he’s performing, the casual touches, the way he kept trying to make her break on stage…it brought tears to my eyes. And that’s not even touching on Priceless. Seeing them dancing together and holding each other like that in front of hundreds of people broke me. I’m so happy for them, not only that they have each other but also that they feel comfortable sharing it with us. The same goes for Breredith (the kiss in Final Ghost was both completely unnecessary and a fantastic addition)

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the band. The music was on point. I don’t know if they wrote new arrangements for the tour, but I did notice it was very “beat-heavy” (is that a thing??) which made it very fun and easy to dance along – perfect for a concert. Also, AJ’s number was fucking incredible and I’m so glad I got to see him sing. It literally gave me AVPSY flashbacks. He’s only gotten more talented since then. I wish we could see him in more Starkid shows. Lastly, I will never stop thanking Clark for writing VHSCC. It’s a energetic, touching, unique take on a familiar story and by far my favorite adaptation of CC. I want him to write more music for Starkid shows.

Throughout my blog entry experience, I have focused on the somewhat well known director Romain Gavras. I say a somewhat well known director because he is also known for wearing many different hats, like producing music vidoes. I have seen a few tweets and posts here and there regarding Romain and who he is. I attribute that to his dating history as he was known for being in a relationship with Dua Lipa… which can speak some volume.

Anyways, through my journey I have developed my own opinion towards this director so I was curious to see what critics have said about him as well. I found one critic who wrote about Romain back in 2010, which intrigued me to see if he has any character development. The critic named Lauren Cochrane started her review by setting an image in my mind. She described him as a smoker with a trucker's mouth and this bad boy attitude. I was surprised to find out that Romain does not have the best reputation on youtube, which is more in regards to his music videos. Romain has developed a very controversial title, many critics seem to not bat an eye at this man. Romain lives up to this reputation of the bad boy attitude. When confronted with the controversial title he repsoned with, “If I wanted to be controversial, I would ahve Nazis raping children or something”. Overall Romain Gavras is not loved by most critics.

Jay-Z & Kanye West - No Church In The Wild ft. Frank Ocean, The-Dream

This video is one of the music videos Romain did, it was for Jay-Z and Kanye West's “No Church In The Wild”. This video alone has over 100 million views. Even though this video is over ten years old, there are a lot of similarities to his 2022 movie Athena. There seems to be a heavy focus on violence, fighting, and political war. There were even some moving camera techniqes I saw in the video that seemed to be the same as some of the ones in Athena. Made me question his development overtime, if he really has gotten any new ideas or skills?

This video shows one of the most intense battle scenes in the movie where you can see a bottle being lit on fire and thrown on the ground just like what happened in the 2010 music video. 

In addition to focusing on Romain Gavras I chose to focus heavily on one of his most recent films called Athena. I knew about this movie before doing my blogs because luckily this movie was released on Netflix, which was where it got its popularity from. Critic Tomris Laffly probably sums up the movie the best. He said, “You arent likelky to see a more rightfully angry film this year than “Athena”, a non-atop opus examining the racism, inequality, and police violence that wreak havoc on France's banlieue communities of color”. I do not think you could get a better cover of what Athena is.

Here is a picture of just one of the intense scenes in Athena, taking in all the chaos and movement even though this is a paused moment in time. 

There is another critic A.O Scott, who seems to be very impressed by the filmmaking of this movie. He said that he thought that it was technically impressive. In Athena we see many long shots, and unique camera skills. Scott describes this work as these breathless takes. Critic Justin Chang also talked heavily about the camera work. Something he noted was how this film was done in a way that made it seem like it was all done in one shot, which speaks to the camera skills in this directing.  Finally, critic John Serba thought that the technique in this film was marvelous. That seems to be the overall review of the film. People are blown away by the camera work and directing skills Romain has. Although they are just as equally impressed by the message of the film. How it captures violence, police btrutality and racism perfectly for the time and place.

Of course, right after starting an accountability blog, I get a nasty cold that wiped me out. And unfortunately I'm still not 100%. I might try to do a light workout later, but as decorating for Christmas about did me in and my mum and grandmother had to finish for me, I'm not keen on pushing it too much.

If I do, I will post it no matter how small, but, in the meantime, I figured I'd give a list of people that have inspired me in my workout/fitness journey and links to their content and such like that. I really struggled for a long time trying to find fitness people that are the typical fitness gurus that you readily find on youtube and instagram, etc. Or ones that talk about getting skinny, etc. My main goal with fitness has always been to gain muscle so I don't exactly vibe with perky people telling me how to lose weight in thirty days. I could care less about my hip dips and belly. I want to be able to bench press my boyfriend if I get bored enough to or (less sarcastically) do any work on the hobby farm I dream of starting someday without assistance.

So, without anymore rambling, here is a list of people I follow that give me inspiration to go for my fitness goals in the order that I locate them in my insta following list:

Tatum McCann (she/her) - @tatumtots37 on instagram and link here for youtube (I have not watched her youtube channel yet just her insta content, but I know not everyone is on there so i'll give yt links where I can).

Jordan Maron (he/him) - many of you probably grew up with CaptainSparklez! I've watched his content since before pffft I don't even remember. Well before Mianite at least and I was there when he started getting into fitness. He was definitely my earliest inspiration to get fit as he kept going past just getting in shape and going for healthy muscle mass as a hobby as much as for health itself. I will leave a link for his lifting channel but it is pretty much dead lol. But he does still occasionally post reels on his insta @jordanmaron.

Gordy Bravo (she/her) - @bravobuilt_fit on instagram. She does not have youtube channel that I am aware of. She does have her own website where she sells fitness programs, etc. Though I have never used it or even checked the website out cause I have authority issues. If people tell me what to do, it's very likely that I won't do it. Hence why I curate my own routine as I go. BUT her content on insta is fantastic. She's very charismatic and natural and it makes her content very approachable.

Lauren Pon (she/her) - If you love anime memes, video games, and want to get muscular, you need to follow her! She's hilarious and sweet and makes lifting (she's a powerlifter) so unintimidating. She's on Insta (@laurenpon), YouTube, and twitch! She's also on tiktok, but i'm not on there really and her linktree is not working. However, her @ is the same across the board so I assume it's the same on there.

Maya Davis (she/her) - More anime vibes, cosplay, and bodybuilder! Her insta is @mayatheamazon and that's the only platform she has as far as I'm aware of. She also has an Insta for her fashion tho. She's a fashion student and the fits are always on point!

Tabi (she/her) - Her bio says it best, Fitness and Anime! Her insta is @tabi.lift (tiktok is the @tabi.fit as is her backup insta) and she's on youtube. She also does cosplay.

Amber (she/her) - She's a weightlifter with more anime vibes and cosplay (are you sensing a theme here? I did not realize anime was the way to my muscle building heart until i started making this list xD). Her insta is @amberthevalkyrie. She's also a fitness model.

Serena Abweh (she/her, i think passed on a couple tags she's used, but if I'm wrong pls let me know!) - very meme-y powerlifter and artist! Her insta is @rena_serenaa. She also has a youtube channel.

Leigh Laurel (she/her) - Lots more bodybuilding, anime, and cosplay! Her instagram is @fitmissfilipina.

Patty aka LEAN BEEF (she/her) - if you're this far and you are aware with anything on that side of the internet, you already know who Patty is or atleast have seen her in fitness edits, etc. She is the person that I saw and went yep, that's it, we're fucking doing this! She's so badass and makes fitness so fucking approachable! I absolutely love her content! I watch her insta religiously and her youtube anytime i want to learn new techniques (especially with mobility training) or just relatable fitness content. And of course there's more anime and cosplay! xD She's also on twitch. Her insta is @leanbeefpatty and I'm pretty sure her tiktok is the same but her linktree is not working so don't quote me on that. (I will say that she has programs for food, working out, etc but again I have issues so I've never looked into them.)
