WHAT THE ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE ON?
Tumblr media
all about the assignments
They’ll all be centered around kpop idols in some way, shape, or form! Though you will have to do math, science, and other classes in this DR too to graduate, I will NOT be doing those assignments for you guys… that’s just regular school 🤢🤢 I didn’t graduate high school to fucking do it all over again here
Anyway, you can expect things like:
- making stage outfits with a given theme
- writing songs (you can copy and paste ones that exist here)
- design stages
- design groups
- kahoots
- makeup analysis
- learn about the different genres and generations in kpop
- studying the history of famous groups like TWICE and BTS
- color analysis
- writing about topics that are relevant to the idol industry
and more!!
other activities that aren’t assignments include:
- signing up for clubs
- making your student ID card
- certain students will be awarded awards that are already outlined on the school website
- certain students will be recruited into a company (HYBE, JYP, YG, SM)
- media training stuff!
and (also) more!!
Tumblr media
note that…
This school thing will not last forever! I think I’ll only do one school year and then post abt other kpop DRs and other things abt this DR. I’ll grade assignments until a certain date, then after that, it’s all over.
Click me if you’re wondering when this school thing starts!!

When a crackship turned normal ship is becoming your comfort ship and it swims in your head 24/7
anyways
Tumblr media
I'm really considering gonna rewrite some of the infection AU just to include this dumb ship ☠️
LISTEN IT'S MY AU, I DO WHAT I WANT--
Okay fr, it's not a big difference, so it's not like I had a drastic change
Anyways I'm pretty sure I've never shared this artwork for it here,,, here it is! Alex Laurier, caretaker of the kids, but mainly Ashlyn.
No matter what he is doing, if Ashlyn needs him or if he is tasked to do an assignment with Ashlyn, he must go, no ifs or buts.
We do not speak of his arm. No one speaks of the incident.
`
`
`
Infection Au lore drop here. No spoilers for the deep lore, just putting it behind a read more bc I can
In the facility, he was given access to an area where he does physical assignments with Ashlyn Banner. These are randomly assigned by the man who runs the research.
This all started when they took a field trip to Savannah, GA. The group was looking around, having fun, and overall having a great time. At some point, they remembered they had signed up for a tour in the area a week before the trip, and they decided to check if they even still had it opened. Luckily, they did, so the group walked to where the Sorrel-Weed house was and were met by a woman with piercings. She welcomed them in, checking that they were the group she was touring before beginning the tour. It was the usual biz; she gave facts, showed them rooms, and would discuss the paranormal activity of the house. While the tour guide was showing them the Francis Sorrel Library, her phone suddenly went off.
"Ah...I'm so sorry, this is my emergency phone. I have to get it." She picked up while walking out of the room. "Please stay here while I get this. Don't touch any of the items while I'm gone, I'll be right back!"
With that, the tour lady leaves.
She leaves the room to actually discuss an actual emergency (something was going on at the facility she worked at).
And while she was gone, Aiden decided to peak out the door to see where she went off to.
"Um, Aiden? What are you doing?" Logan asked. "Checking to make sure the coast is clear, duh" Aiden replied, walking out the door.
So, he forces the group to follow him so they could explore. Tay was all over for this idea, just wanting to look around.
While they looked around, Ashlyn got a strange feeling in her stomach. She felt as though they should head back to the room before the tour guide came back. But she didn't speak up. Eventually they make it to the basement (I'm assuming, idk I've never been to the Sorrel-Weed house), and Ashlyn senses a strange presence in the room. She looks over to where the phantom was in the canon, but nothing is there. "Whatcha looking at?" Aiden asked, scaring Ashlyn. "Ah! Stop sneaking up on me like that!" She yelled. Aiden turned to where she was looking at and started walking towards the room. "What are--" "Oooh, what's this?" Aiden interrupted. The others followed behind, and Ashlyn had no choice but to follow.
They saw a small plant like material in the corner, it's pattern sort of resembling a smile if you really squinted your eyes.
"Say, didn't Logan tell us his grandparents run a plant shop?" Aiden asked, "Um…it's flowers actu--" "Same thing! So, what kind of plant is it?" Aiden asked curiously. Logan took a closer look, but he scrunched his brows, stepping back. "I'm… I'm not sure. Looks nothing like what I've studied." "Maybe we can ask the tour guide when she finds us? She's bound to know--" Before Taylor finished her sentence, Aiden threw a book at the plant, which caused it to release a cloud of smoke. COUGH COUGH "AIDEN!! What the hell was that for?!" Tyler yelled out, gagging as he was unfortunately close to it. Aiden coughed harder than him, having been the one who got the most in his lungs. "I'm sorry! I got curious if it would do something when I threw a book at it!" "What did you think the plant was going to do?? Read us a bedtime story?" Ashlyn wheezed as she wiped the dust off her face. She observed it closely, wondering what the particles even were. 'This…. this doesn't look normal…' Ashlyn thought. "Excuse me?? What are you kids doing down here?? I told y'all to stay in the room!" The tour guide stated. The kids turned around, Whoops, they've been caught. Sigh "Never mind, y'all are young, I can't blame anybody. Let's head back to continue the tour…" She stated, rubbing her eyes.
Ashlyn felt wary of the plant, but it didn't really matter to her. 'It's not our problem anymore.' she thought.
...
The dust never left.
(woah Hoza actually wrote the beginning??) Anyways, that's all I'm sharing, ty for reading my Infection AU snip-shots.

Athalia snarled, “What were you thinking? Why the fuck did you get rid of her body? This fucking case has to be closed because of your mistake, and now we’re going to suffer because of your bullshit? What the hell is wrong with you?” She pressed her finger against his chest, anger rising in her. Not only had he destroyed the evidence of the confidential case Castian assigned to both of them, he dismissed the damn charges against the involved suspects and acted as if nothing happened.
Andor kept a tight-lipped smile on his face, even though this was no smiling matter. Athalia’s outburst is starting to make him livid. But he had to wait a little longer until he could carry out his plan with her. Stupid Bitch, he thought. She messed up his whole reputation from the start, and he can’t wait any longer. Hell, after he’s done with her, he’d tie her guts in a cute bow to put up on his wall as a trophy. Adrenaline was pumping through his veins at the mere thought of torturing her, making her suffer. Oh how he would love to see that terrified look on her face when she realizes what’s going to happen to her.
Athalia opened her mouth to speak, but then a wave of nausea hit her, and she knew something was wrong. She looked up at Andor’s eyes studying his expression. His blue eyes turned into a darker grayish-blue, and his expression was lifeless and apathetic, the same expression she’d see on murderers and serial killers. She took a step back, noticing Andor looming closer to her, a sadistic grin plastered on his face.
“Come on now princess, don’t be shy,” Andor remarked, his face mimicking a mock expression of sympathy. He reached into his duty belt, pulling his knife out and examining it.
Athalia’s heart raced, adrenaline pumping through her veins, her hands turning clammy and cold as she realized Andor wasn’t who he was. This whole time as they worked on the case of Ivory Davidson, Andor deceived her, making her think he was trustworthy, yet he was working against the case they were specifically entrusted with.
“Y’know, the last face Ivory saw before she died was mine. I’ll make sure that before you go, the last thing you’ll remember is me.” Andor remarked, his eyes wild with pure adrenaline, giving away of what a fucking psychopath he was.
Andor pressed the cold metal of his knife against Athalia’s neck, adding pressure slowly.
Athalia’s eyes darted around the room frantically, looking for something to get her out of this nightmare, praying that her fate wouldnt be twisted in this way, just to die in a slow, tortuous way.
Before Athalia could blink, a bullet came flying out of nowhere, aimed right for the back Andor’s head. In less than a moment, Andor fell to the ground, blood seeping through his dirty blonde hair to the ground.
Panic rushed through her body, and she ducked immediately, thinking the next bullet shot from afar would be for her. Who shot the bullet? Only she and Andor were in the confrence room alone. Reluctantly, she looked down to see the blood chilling sight of a dead body.
Andor Laurier was dead.

BIOGRAPHY.
KIDNAPPING TW, DEATH TW, MURDER TW
The beginning of your story remains a slight blur. You remember traveling through Europe alongside your family one summer--- your young feet unable to keep up with your parents' quick pace. You remember getting separated from them in a crowd--- your eyes wide and panicky as unknown figures meld together. You remember a kind woman grabbing her hand and offering you words of comfort in Russian--- your eyes softly drifting close as you let yourself be swept away from the crowd and into the life of the red eye.
The rest of your childhood consisted of harsh regiments and strict schedules. You never saw your family again, but as months went on, you began to forget they even existed. In your mind, the red eye was your true family. They raised you from nothing. They trained you and gave you a purpose in life. They valued you for your skills as well as your very presence. You desired to be the best, to morph yourself into their perfect soldier, all to make sure you're not abandoned like you were back then.
And you accomplished that goal. You completed every mission you were assigned. You made sure there were never any loose ends or pieces of evidence floating around. You became someone they knew they could count on, but that changed when you met CAROLINE. She was a CIA agent assigned to investigate the death of one of your victims, and you were sent to watch her and make sure she didn't connect you to the crime. You had never been in love before, but seeing her felt like floating on a cloud. You were smitten from day 1, and that feeling only intensified as you watched her work. She was throughout and no-nonsense, and you knew she'd be a good match for you.
Caroline wound up not being able to tie you to the crime, and you were able to avoid any further actions on your part. If anything, it gave you the freedom you needed to finally talk to her. The two of you connected right away, and a couple of years later, you found yourself married and in love. You never told her that you were tied to the red eye or that the crime scene she investigated was a courtesy of you, and she never told you that she worked for the CIA. As far as the two of you were concerned, you were just an ordinary couple who met in a big city.
You wished your lives could've been that simple. You began to long for the white picket fence and the children running around your feet, but fate had other plans in store for you. Caroline began investigating another death (courtesy of another red-eye agent), but this time, she found evidence at the crime scene: a few locks of hair were left near the murdered victim. The discovery alarmed your bosses, and you were sent the dreaded message later that day: assassinate Caroline Laurier.
You didn't know if they intentionally chose you for the job to punish you for allowing her to pry into the deaths, or if you were just the closest agent at the time. Either way, you were forced to carry out the request. In your mind, it was better this way. If you refused the order, they would just send another agent to finish the job. At least you'll be able to spend Caroline's final moments with her. At least you can say you're sorry one last time.
Caroline's death destroyed you. You became a shell of a man--- wracked with guilt and unable to accept the blood on your hands. You shut yourself off from red eye and abandoned all forms of communication in a bid to send them a message--- I'm through with this life. You knew it didn't work like that--- that one doesn't just leave red eye on their own volition. No, you're aware they won't stop hunting you down, that you're a loose end in their organization. You knew, but you didn't care. Let them come after you. Let them try and finish you off. Perhaps you deserve a brutal death. It would at least get you one step closer to atoning for your sins.
WANTED CONNECTIONS.
THE MIRAGE: Grey is haunted by memories of his wife. Your character is someone who looks almost identical to her. The sight of you unlocks something in Grey--- a curiosity? an obsession? a way to continue to beat himself up over the loss of Caroline? No matter the reason, he can't help but watch your character and long for the day when he can strike up a conversation--- if only to let himself finally accept that your character isn't a ghost from his past.
THE VENDETTA: Your character is the one who gave Grey his last assignment, and now he's on a mission to make your character feel the pain he's currently going through. He knows it's a suicide mission waiting to happen, that he should just remain low until time forgets about him, but love and grief can drive a man to do irrational things. He won't rest until he can get revenge- even if it kills him in the process.
THE HANDLER: Your character is the red-eye agent assigned to track down and bring Grey back to headquarters. The relationship is UTP--- could be someone who hated Grey and can't wait to see him killed, or it could be an old friend who quietly hopes Grey can slip out of their grasp. Either way, I expect a painful reunion and a discussion about the price it pays to be a red-eye agent.
THE FOLLOWER: Since Grey's inspiration includes Geralt of Rivia, your character would be the Jaskier. Just someone more on the goofy/light-hearted side who wants to break through Grey's serious demeanor. He's pretty much shut himself off from connections after the death of his wife, but your character won't seem to rest until they can make him crack a smile.

[Image transcripts in order: “I spend so much time on TikTok. Hours and hours, until my eyes start hurting, which makes it hard to plan and do my schoolwork. With ChatGPT, I can write an essay in two hours that normally takes 12."
- A freshman at Wilfrid Laurier University in Ontario]
[through dense coding and debugging assignments. "College is just how well I can use ChatGPT at this point," a student in Utah recently captioned a video of herself copy-and-pasting a chapter from her Genocide and Mass Atrocity textbook into ChatGPT.]
[up a draft or find a relevant study to cite. Wendy, a freshman finance major at one of the city's top universities, told me that she is against using AI. Or, she clarified, "I'm against copy-and-pasting. I'm against cheating and plagiarism. All of that. It's against the student handbook." Then she described, step-by-step, how on a recent Friday at 8 a.m., she called up an AI platform to help her write a four-to-five-page essay due two hours later.]
[classroom dynamics. Her opening line: "To what extent is schooling hindering students' cognitive ability to think critically?" Later, I asked Wendy if she recognized the irony in using AI to write not just a paper on critical pedagogy but one that argues learning is what "makes us truly human." She wasn't sure what to make of the question. "I use AI a lot. Like, every day," she said. "And I do believe it could take away that critical-thinking part. But it's just—now that we rely on it, we can't really imagine living without it."]
Tumblr media
Generative AI has destroyed academia.
In the next few decades we’re going to have thousands of people who don’t really know anything, and can’t do any critical thinking.

HARTFORD WOLF PACK OPEN TRAINING CAMP
Tumblr media
By: Gerry Cantlon, HowlingsHARTFORD, CT - The Hartford Wolf Pack released their training camp roster on Sunday, which includes ten hopefuls on Professional Try-Out contracts (PTO).The players on PTOs are goaltender Brad Arvanitis, defensemen Matthew Cairns, Ryan McCleary, Steven MacLean, Billy Constantinou. and Chris Cameron. Also on PTOs are forwards Luka Burzan, Peter Laviolette Jr., James Hardie, and Michal Mrazik. All of them are looking to make the Pack's opening night roster. With more cuts coming by the New York Rangers, the Wolf Pack will start camp with 17 forwards, ten defensemen, and three goaltenders on their training camp roster.Forwards (17): Matej Pekar (Cincinnati-ECHL/Rochester), Turner Elson, Riley Nash (Charlotte-AHL), Anton Blidh (Colorado-AHL/NHL/Hartford), Luka Burzan* (Ft. Wayne-Cincinnati-ECHL/ Cleveland-AHL), Karl Henriksson, Sahil Panwar (Peterborough/Hamilton-OHL), Adam Sýkora (HK Nitra-Slovakia/Harford), Peter Laviolette Jr.* (Wheeling-ECHL like his Rangers' Head Coach, he played Division III college hockey), Ryder Korczak (Moose Jaw-WHL/Hartford-5), Bobby Trivigno, Maxim Barbashev (Moncton-QMJHL), James Hardie* (Mississauga-OHL/Cincinnati-ECHL), Alex Belzile (Laval/Montreal), Drew Worrad (Toledo-ECHL/Grand Rapids), Cristiano DiGiacinto (Hartford/Jacksonville-ECHL), and Michal Mrazik* (Atlanta-ECHL/Tucson).Defensemen (10): Matthew Cairns* (Cincinnati-ECHL/Milwaukee), Connor Mackey (Calgary-NHL/Arizona/Team USA-WC, his father is former NHL'er Dave Mackey), Zach Berzolla (Cincinnati-ECHL/Rochester), Blake Hillman, Seth Barton (Toledo-ECHL/Grand Rapids), Nikolas Brouillard (San Diego), Steven MacLean* (Wilfred Laurier-OUAA/Cincinnati-ECHL), Ryan McCleary* (Portland-WHL, rights traded to Swift Current, and the son of New Haven Senator Trent McCleary), Billy Constantinou* (Wichita/Norfolk/Wichita-ECHL/San Jose-AHL), and Chris Cameron* (Indy-ECHL/Milwaukee).Goaltenders (3): Brad Arvanitis*(Rapid City/Tulsa/Wichita-ECHL/Pensacola-SPHL), Talyn Boyko (Kelowna-WHL), and Olof Lindbom (Jacksonville-ECHL/Hartford).Later, the Rangers assigned seven more players to Hartford. All of them played in Hartford last year. The players are goaltender Dylan Garand, defensemen Matthew Robertson and Brandon Scanlin, and forwards Adam Edström Rögle BK (Sweden-SHL/Hartford), Matt Rempe, Brett Berard (Providence College-HE/Hartford), and Jake Leschyshyn (Las Vegas-New York/Hartford). RANGERS PRESEASON The New York Islanders scored three times in the first period on Saturday night against Hamden-born Jonathan Quick. The Rangers started slowly, but the Islanders didn't. The Islanders got a secondary assist on the first goal from ex-Pack/Ranger Julien Gauthier, battling for a position in Belmont.Jonny Brodzinski, who's getting an extended look by the Rangers, had three shots in the first two periods, including the best-quality shot in the second frame for the Rangers. The Rangers started the third period well. Ex-Pack Ryan Lindgren had a quality bid from the right-wing side. Brennan Othmann then scored the first Rangers' goal at the right side of the net, knocking it down with his right skate and whacking the bouncing biscuit into the cage. The Rangers have been pleased with what they've seen from Othmann to this point but need to decide whether to keep him in a limited role or send him to develop in Hartford, where he'll get first-line minutes and power play time.Another last season Pack, Will Cullye, continued to impress, sparking a late comeback that fell short. The hulking 6'4 forward was net front and swatted the puck out of mid-air and into the net to make it 4-3.The Islanders sealed the deal with an empty-netter for the 5-3 final. EMBERSON CLAIMED OFF WAIVERS The Wolf Pack lost last season's right-handed defenseman Ty Emberson to the San Jose Sharks on a waiver claim on Saturday. The Rangers were forced to put Emberson on waivers as a veteran to get him to Hartford, and the Sharks took him. Emberson was a collegiate teammate and defensive partner of K'Andre Miller and is heading back out West, where he started his career (Tucson), heading to the AHL San Jose Barracuda. The club assigned six others to the Wolf Pack. They included defenseman Connor Mackey, who was signed in the off-season. There are options for forward Adam Sýkora, who played two games at the end of last year. He is 19 years old and could be sent back to junior with the Medicine Hat Tigers (WHL), where he was the #1 overall pick in last year's CHL Import Draft, or he could return to his native Slovakia like he did last year, or he could be in Hartford. Also heading to Hartford is Turner Elson, a jack-of-all-trades last season for the Wolf Pack, who will likely have an "A" on his sweater this year. Joining him will be Alex Belzile, a captain in Laval with the Rocket, who spent some time in Montreal with the Canadiens last year because of the severe spate of injuries.Anton Blidh came over to Hartford having a sub-par early part of the season with the Colorado Eagles and then briefly with the Avalanche. However, he became a significant asset helping the Wolf Pack when acquired at the trade deadline. He helped the Pack make the playoffs, ending an eight-year drought, not counting the pandemic year and was rewarded with a two-year deal in the off-season.The Rangers also sent Riley Nash, a point-per-game player with the Charlotte Checkers and a thorn in the side of the Wolf Pack, before joining the team last season. The Rangers have 24 players remaining in camp, meaning depending upon salary-cap numbers, one or two could stay in the Big Apple. PLAYER MOVEMENT Forward Ty Smilanic (Quinnipiac University), who grad-transferred to Wisconsin-Madison (Big 10) last year, was sent to Laval by Montreal after acquiring his rights from the Florida Panthers at last year's Trade Deadline.Vegas sent ex-Pack Mason Geersten to the Henderson Silver Knights.Ex-Pack's Justin Richards and Dustin Tokarski are sent to the Rochester Americans pending clearing waivers.Ex-Pack Tommy Hughes starts his second season as an NHL linesman wearing #65.West Hartford's Jordan Samuels-Thomas (Quinnipiac University) wears #42 and starts his second year as an NHL/AHL referee. The referee with the second most Stanley Cup games officiated games in NHL history at 42 is still the late, great Rangers 1970s TV color commentator, Bill "The Big Whistle" Chadwick. You can still hear Chadwick's foghorn voice and memorable observations.Chadwick was surpassed by two games by Bill McCreary Sr. His cousin is the President/Head coach/GM Billy McCreary of the Danbury Hat Tricks (FPHL).His other hockey claim to fame was a hard, clean, legal hit he made on Wayne Gretzky, then in his second season with Edmonton (NHL) and who had four pro seasons under his belt at the point, two WHA and two NHL.McCreary lived and walked out of the Northlands Coliseum in Edmonton alive but never played another game or NHL shift for Toronto or anyone else.HARTFORD WOLF PACK HOME Read the full article

Customer Persona Example
This is a customer persona I created called "Student Shawn" to represent a typical customer in the student segment of the market. About Him: Shawn studies journalism and marketing at Laurier University. He uses a computer all day long doing research, writing assignments and visiting social media and watching YouTube during his downtime. Use Case: Shawn knows his way around his computer pretty well, but he uses our services when something unexpected happens that he can't seem to fix himself. He drops off his laptop with us for a diagnostic and uses his old desktop computer and tablet in the meantime. He waits for the results of the diagnostics and the repair estimate before deciding if he can afford to fully repair his laptop, or if he will just transfer his data to an external drive and use his other computer for the rest of the term. Previous Solution + Pain Points: Before becoming our client, Shawn would take his laptop to Geek Squad for repairs. He couldn't afford an extended service plan for his laptop, so he had to pay their full retail pricing for any repair work and replacement parts which always seems unreasonably high. Sometimes he'd get his computer back and the same problem would happen again a day or two later, so he'd have to waste his time bringing it back and forth to be looked at again and usually by a different employee. Eventually he'd get it back fixed, but it was usually a frustrating and expensive ordeal. Benefits: Using our company, Shawn gets the following benefits:
He deals with a single technician that's responsible for his machine from beginning to end
He's not charged an additional markup on any replacement parts needed
He pays lower rates for the same work
Service recommendations are always tailored to his needs and offer the best value for his dollar
Buying Trigger: High costs and sub-par customer experience when dealing with the nationwide retailer sent him looking for an alternative. Buying Process: He searches for computer repair services in the city and sees our website advertising lower rates. He calls or texts with a description of his problem and his questions, and gets an idea of the typical cost to fix his kind of problem before deciding whether it's worth it for him right now. He finds it costs less than he's paid for similar work in the past, so he brings the machine in for repair. The technician fixes it and shows Shawn a few things he can do himself to prevent the problem in the future. Shawn is impressed and tells all his friends to check us out so they can save money when they need repairs.
Choice Factors: Shawn's choice of where to get his laptop fixed is mainly influenced by:
Cost - School is expensive and students are always looking for the best value for their dollar.
Reputation - Students are much more likely to patronize a company that other students have recommended.
Customer Experience - Shawn would rather go to a company that finds solutions for his individual needs and budget, and makes him feel included throughout the entire process.

Charlie Chaplin: Jewish Or Goyish?
As nearly as can be determined, Charlie Chaplin is virtually part Jewish almost most of the time. John McCabe, Charlie Chaplin
In March of 1978, Charlie Chaplin’s body was stolen from his tomb in Switzerland and held for ransom. Two months later it was discovered buried in a farmer’s field and returned to his wife Oona, who remarked, dryly, ‘Charlie would have found this ridiculous.’ According to rumour, the Swiss government suspected that his remains had been stolen by anti-Semitic groups, upset that a Jew should be buried in a Christian cemetery. Chaplin’s Jewishness made him an enemy of the FBI and put him on the Nazi’s list of international targets. He is perhaps one of the most famous Jews in American history hence it is all the more surprising to learn that he was not, in fact, Jewish. Since his early days as the Little Tramp, a role he assumed in 1914, Jews had believed Chaplin was secretly Jewish. The fact that his name was not Jewish was irrelevant; it was common practice for Jews to change their names when entering show business (Al Jolson was born Asa Yoelson). In the 1948 edition of a Jewish encyclopedia, Chaplin is listed as a Jewish movie star, and the name ‘Israel Thonstein’ is mentioned alongside the claim that he was from an old Eastern European Jewish family. As proof, the encyclopedia cited a 1931 article from the New York Herald Tribune, which commented upon the way Chaplin’s eyes could convey both sadness and joy in a uniquely Jewish fashion, and a Budapest Jewish paper which claimed to trace his Jewish ancestry (as Thonstein) back to Hungary.
More important than birth records and names was the fact he looked, acted and ‘felt’ Jewish. To Jewish eyes, Chaplin told Jewish stories. Famously, one critic recalled watching The Gold Rush (1925) next to a middle-aged Jewish woman: ‘Oy!’ she wailed, as the Tramp tried to escape from his on-screen tormentors, ‘What do they want with him, the goyim?!! What has he done to them?’ The Tramp, small and powerless, was taunted and hounded by authorities who hated him without reason, in what appeared to American Jews as the enactment of the Jewish condition. Hannah Arendt wrote in 1944 that Chaplin symbolised the ‘effrontery of the poor ‘little Yid’ who does not recognise the class order of the world because he sees in it neither order nor justice for himself ’. Meanwhile, in Sholem Aleichem’s 1916 story, ‘Motl in America’, the hero spends his time watching Chaplin films and extolling the virtues of free America in which a Jew like Chaplin can become rich and famous.
For film scholar Patricia Erens, the Tramp is a variation on ‘dos kleine menshele’ or ‘little man’ of Yiddish literature, the poor and long-suffering antihero, the shlemiel (a little man with no luck), and the luftmensch (the ‘man of air’ who lives on dreams). Erens cites the numerous Jewish references in Chaplin’s oeuvre, in particular the prevalence of skullcaps and Yiddish newspapers as props, and a scene in The Vagabond (1916) in which the Tramp finds a Jewish man eating pork at a buffet and helpfully changes the ‘ham’ sign to ‘beef ’. Many of the characteristics we associate with ‘acting’ Jewish—the nasal voice, the New York accent, and the verbal wit a‘ la Groucho Marx—were unavailable to the makers of silent pictures. Chaplin, however, was a dancer, an acrobat, and a pantomime extraordinaire and able to communicate other, non-verbal cultural indicators to a savvy audience—the comic shrugs, the outdated black coat, the facial pathos combined with frantic body movements, the chaotic presence that mocks the establishment. Above all, Chaplin achieved a subtle gender inversion through the graceful, almost balletic eluding of his macho tormentors. Jewish audiences recognised this physical portrayal from the Yiddish stage and read it as a visual metaphor for the disempowered Jew in a hostile world.
Across the world this misconception raged, gaining him enemies to the left and the right. The German-American Bund helped spread the rumour that Charles Spencer Chaplin was born Israel Thonstein and in the book that accompanied the Nazi propaganda film The Eternal Jew, Thonstein is cited as the maiden name for the mother of ‘The Jew, Chaplin.’ In 1948 the US Navy investigated Chaplin on suspicion of Zionist activity: shipping guns to Palestine, as well as around 36 tanks. But it was the FBI under Hoover that became Chaplin’s greatest political and legal enemy. Chaplin’s FBI file is a comprehensive laboratory for identity construction that began in 1922 and remained open until after his death. The file chronicles Chaplin’s downfall, the suspicion of Communist activities, the Mann Act trial for transporting unmarried women across state lines for deviant purposes, and further rumours and innuendo that led to his expulsion from America in 1952. Chaplin is continually described as ‘of Jewish extraction,’ given the name of ‘Thonstein’ as an alias (though there is no proof that Chaplin ever used this name himself), and assigned attributes such as ‘Jewish accent,’ ‘talks with hands,’ and Russian birth.
Crucially, it was not Jewishness that alarmed Hoover but ambiguity. According to Omer Bartov in his compelling work The Jew in Cinema, Jewish characters are often portrayed as slippery and protean, possessing an insidious ability to obscure their Jewishness and blend in. The emancipation of the Jews from the ghettos of Europe at the turn of the last century had left them free to shave and dress in modern clothing, making them impossible to detect. This new found ambiguity of Jewish identity made them, in many gentile eyes, the most dangerous minority in civilised society. Ambiguity was the dominant paranoia of Cold-War America, which felt itself threatened by the enemy within—the Communists, Jews and homosexuals who were so hard to detect. The insistence on Chaplin’s Jewishness helped reinforce the notion of an ‘authentic American’ by establishing firm conceptual borders through identity construction and categorisation.
Not only did both Jewish and gentile audiences see him as a Jew, but Chaplin himself very nearly became convinced of his own Jewishness. While he did not officially doubt his mother’s version of his parentage, in which her legal husband, Charles Chaplin, Sr., a non-Jewish pop singer, was his biological father, there were times when he clearly wondered if the questions surrounding his lineage were true, and if they were more scandalous than imagined. His step-brother Sydney had a Jewish father and the world’s insistence on Chaplin’s Jewish origins prompted him and many others to wonder whether their birth stories had in fact been reversed.
‘All geniuses,’ Chaplin was heard to remark,‘have some Jewish blood in them.’ Flattered by the widely held misconception about his Jewish identity, his understanding of Jewishness was simplistic and stereotypical: Jews were blessed with superior intellect and financial acumen than non-Jews. Further, he believed that his physical attributes compounded the myth: he was short with curly black hair, ‘Oriental facial features’, and a prominent nose. In footage taken of famed British comedian Harry Lauder’s visit to Chaplin Studios, Lauder draws Chaplin on a chalkboard. Chaplin makes great show of stopping him, pantomimes ‘too Jewish,’ and re-draws the nose. Quite how to interpret this is unclear, but Chaplin either believed himself to be Jewish or was making fun of those who did. In the absence of confirmed roots, Chaplin may have sought to align himself with a group that, although outsiders in mainstream society, seemed to him possessed of an ancient and mystical national bond. When the great cantor Yossele Rosenblatt visited Chaplin’s studios, Chaplin told him that he owned all of the cantor’s recordings and that ‘Whenever I feel a little blue, I take them out and play them. They do something to me. They unite me, oh so closely, with my Jewish ancestors.’
Chaplin was an actor, and he played one role after another all his life. He occasionally told people he was Jewish, which sounded better to his director’s ears than ‘poor English gutter trash.’ But sometimes, including in his interviews with the FBI, he denied it, once commenting, ‘I am afraid I do not have that good fortune.’ Of his anti-Nazi picture The Great Dictator (1940) Chaplin said, ‘I made this film to show my unity with all the Jews of the world’. While American politicians and agents worried about the film’s ‘Communist’ message, the American Jewish establishment feared that an anti-Hitler film made by a Jew might make things worse for Jews in Europe. Chaplin’s own response—‘How can they get worse?’—indicates his own fearlessness. For the Jew in America, it was as if, as Stanley Kauffmann put it, ‘a David had arisen—a comic David—to fight Goliath!’

Hidden colonialism ... How does France absorb the bounties of Africa?
Tumblr media
Economic colonialism has absorbed Africa for more than half a century, displaced by all of its interests.
What do you know about France's Africa networks? The stick of France, which ruled Africa in secret in the mid-1990s, coincidentally discovered massive money-laundering operations in France in just three years, infiltrating nearly half a billion dollars into the pockets of prominent political figures from France's left. It was shocking news for the French and the world, but most surprisingly, these funds came from the most capable on earth. Africa is a major scandal known as a scandal that revealed a suspicious pattern of relations built over 50 years between France and its former colonies on the black continent involving diplomats, military, intelligence agents, economists, and even mercenaries whose mission was the finest Africa under The Control of France for decades, which spanned more than a century in some regions, the territory of twenty African countries was subjected to French colonialism and with the remedy of the twentieth-century french military influence was taken into overland with the rise of national liberation movements and France had to look for a formula new to its relations with its colonies.
The new solution came in the year fifty-eight and nine hundred and a thousand with the return of Charles de Gaulle to power and the founding of the Fifth French Republic de Gaulle proposed to grant independence to fourteen African countries by the year 1990 and sixty-six hundred, but in secret, he was woven into Africa with new nets that would keep it in France's traps for the other half-century, i.e. De Gaulle that France was dependent on its ability to secure its raw material needs and accordingly established its new African colonial system, all to two men, Pierre Yuma, minister of hydrocarbons and Jacques Foucar, general secretary of the Elysee and the engineer. Real networks of France Africa. In a short period, these networks have become the most modern version of French colonialism with a dangerous task bag that is never subject to the institution of French politics or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs but is directly managed by the President to arrange coups or fail them to appoint or overthrow presidents to finance or fight the political assassinations, all of which were legitimate tasks of Jacques Foucar's networks.
The starting point was in Guinea, which gained independence in 1998 thanks to its anti-French president Ahmed Sektori punishing Sekou Toure. The first task sought by France Afrique networks was assigned to former intelligence officer Maurice Roper, who flooded Guinea with a fake currency to destroy the economy and pushed for the departure of 3,000 French capitalists, trained a group of Guinean dissidents and provided them with weapons and equipment to overthrow Sekitori, but failed and Skitori succeeded in staying in power but turned into one of Africa's toughest dictators. In Cameroon, France has given the green light to assassinate dissident Felix Monnier with a poisonous dose in support of its ally President Ahmed.
In Nigeria, to preserve oil revenues from the territory in a raid on the former English colony, France trained a rebellion that caused a bloody civil war that claimed the lives of one million people, while in Benin, Jacques Foucar's former assistant orchestrated a failed intervention to overthrow President Matthew Rico, using an army of mercenaries led by Bob Dinar, alias The Dog of War. This entire army was trained in Gabon which had a very painful share of The French Gabonese sticks. Gabon is the most expressive example of the influence enjoyed by the Frans Afrique networks. John Leon was president and intervened by a military contingent to bring him back to power after the coup in 1994 and then protected him through the training of presidential guards Jaboni and Hinds, a constitutional amendment that was approved at the Embassy of Gabon in France.
Omar Bongo ascended to the post of Vice President, jumping immediately and without elections to the presidency in 1997. Things didn't go much differently in Central Africa, which hosted one of the largest French military bases on the continent, with France supporting a coup led by eccentric officer Jean-Biddle Bocasa, who proclaimed himself emperor like Napoleon. As African leaders complained about Bocasa's activities, France was forced to overthrow him through a paramilitary operation known as Operation Barracuda and brought his predecessor, David Duck back to power, several objectives that were driven by France Afrique's plots in Africa to preserve the flows of energy resources and raw materials, mainly uranium, as well as to ensure a pro-French voting network in international institutions, as well as to halt communist expansion in Africa during the Cold War.
But state interests are not all about the game' threads, which have spread to a network of special interests and financial bribes that have flowed into the pockets of loyal African leaders and extended to the coffers of French presidents such as Giscard d'Estaing, François Mitterrand, and Jacques Chirac. French companies in Africa played the role of that suspected transit body between those networks, notably the oil company Offtin, which owned its intelligence network. A scandal erupted in the 1990s that confused the whole of France to quickly contain the damage by liquidating the company and merging it with its smaller counterpart, Total, after which France's influence seemed to be waning in Africa and the balance of power was in favor of African leaders who took the opportunity to buy political allegiances in Paris. In 2000 and 400, France suffered a new blow, this time in Ivory Coast, when Laurent Fabius turned against The French's close friend Foné, sparking a real war with an airstrike by French troops in the country and nine soldiers killed. France then responded by destroying the Ivorian air force and sparking unprecedented tensions between the two countries as Baggio's supporters took to the streets of Paris. All developments suggested that the networks founded by Jacques Foucar were on the verge of death, but that never meant the end of France's domination of Africa. In Ivory Coast itself, the French group continued to strengthen its influence in the country, led by the subsidiaries of the influential French industrialist Vinson Laurier, who founded an unprecedented power empire in the Gulf of Guinea.
Sarkozy's rise to power ushered in a new era to support French industry emperors such as Blooria, Puig, and Total. He served as an envoy to protect their interests from the very first moment, in Angola, for example, Sarkozy brokered the granting of oil exploration concessions to Total, while in Niger, the French president intervened to preserve the uranium needed by his country's nuclear power plants. But the policy of colonizing companies did not mean that France would abandon its military presence in Africa, and the figures say otherwise, France intervened militarily in Africa on thirty-five occasions, including twice under Sarkozy and three times under François Hollande, who pledged to end the Afrique era.

Yoooo
So what’s up? It’s ya girl, procrastinating studying for my Biopsych final tomorrow. I was looking around my apartment thinking about all the blessings that have come my way in life, and I thought I’d list a few of them here because nobody really reads this except maybe an ex or two, and I like posting semi-privately on a public platform. Heehoo.
I’m almost finished my 2nd year of my undergrad, and I’m ecstatic at that. I’ve finished 90% of the required courses for my major, just need to fill in some electives now (forever the try hard). After my BSc, I’m planning to do my Master’s of Science at either Laurier again or UW, maybe Queen’s or uOttawa/Carleton, but I’m liking the idea of Laurier/UW because it doesn't require me getting used to a whole new city.
It really does get better. 15 year old Sarah was crying over boys who didn’t love her, scarring her skin, and pushing away the people who really did care about her. Now I’m back and mentally stabler than ever. Plus we got on that Prozac.
As I sit here in my tiny apartment surrounded by mountains of textbooks and printed-out notes, I am thankful. This certainly isn’t the heaven I envisioned when I spent my days pondering death and what’s next after it, but it’s a happy existence for now, and I feel like my life has a purpose.
In case anybody cares, I’m going to be a doctor. I’m majoring in Psychology, minoring in criminology (focusing on youth justice), and we’re taking that all the way to the top, MD would be cool but if I run outta steam a PhD is nothing to sneeze at either. I made it through my struggles (not to say I’ve BEAT depression lmao I’m always on the watch for signs of the next flare-up/sad attack), and I want to help vulnerable youth in the same situation as I was so sort their shit out and get going in the right direction. In short, not to toot my own horn or sound like some self-righteous ass, but I want to be the person I needed when I needed someone.
Only eight more years of school to go!! Honestly that sounds daunting, but time seems to go faster as I get older (remember how long grade 2 seemed when you were in it? How long does it seem like it was now?), and I thought four years of high school would be the death of me. I’m at this school because I choose to be, taking subjects I enjoy (FUCK you to the public schooling system for making me take gym and art in grade 9), and every credit I earn and assignment I hand in brings me one step closer to Dr Sarah Russell.
As well, every success I have in every venture I set out on is an accomplishment, because I honestly do feel as if I’m lucky to be here at all. Not that I was ever close to death in my suicide attempt(s), but I had no idea how toxicology worked; the intention was there, I was saved by my own ignorance. For a reason. Now that I’ve been chewed up and spat out by that particular dragon, I’m in the process of picking myself up and dusting myself off.
I’m not trying to stand here and say that I had this terrible childhood that I miraculously recovered from. I never got smacked around unless I deserved it, nobody raped me, and I always had dinner on the table. My depression was genetic/chemical and reared its (stupid) head when the hormonal cocktail of adolescence punched me in the gut. While there was some emotional abuse/manipulation for sure, all in all, my parents tried to do a good job on me and I feel they did.
Nevertheless, I did spend my formative years depressed and feeling anxious and alienated, and I didn't tell anyone about this because I thought it was this weird thing inside me that I shouldn’t discuss for fear of being labelled as attention seeking, high-maintenance, fragile, or crazy. That 100% bit me in the ass when I came to embody those very traits I had sought to avoid in may repression of what I had been feeling. But hey, we know this now. And since I’ve been there in the trenches on the bad days, I feel I would make a great mental health professional to someone in the same shoes who needs someone who understands what they feel and doesn’t just want to shove some pharmaceuticals at them.
Lemons become lemonade. Pain becomes growth. Energy spent on making yourself, others, and the world a better place is never energy wasted. Peace.

<h1>The problem with Crossing the Border (09-01-19)</h1>
The problem with Crossing the Border (09-01-19)
Or an alternate title: I have ADHD, Big Surprise Out of curiosity, anyone has border crossing stories? They don’t have to be horror stories; they can be good. I’m mainly curious how it’s been for other people. So this week could have gone great, and for one the problem wasn’t on my company’s side. We did everything right, it’s the shipper and the border who dropped the ball. So, did the delivery on Monday and as my manager is on vacation, St-Germain was the one handling it, and before they were done unloaded, I had my next assignment. a pickup, 5 hours away, for Wednesday morning. If my manager had been handling it, I wouldn’t have found out until later on Tuesday, forcing me to rush there, his justifications would be that he was looking for something better in the meantime, which is BS, since that shipper is about the only one we have in all of BC anymore. I only drove an hour, I mean, what’s the point. I’m on eastern time, so 3 hours ahead of them, and going to be a day early. Also, Hwy 3 from Hope to Grand Forks, is horrible and there is no way I want to do it in the dark. It was still dark by the time I left on Tuesday, but was light before I hit the really tight curves going up and down hills. It’s the summer, so it wasn’t as bad as it could be, and I was empty, but I’ve done them in the winter. I never look forward to driving on that road. Made it mid-morning for them, checked in, pointing out I was a day early and they said to drop it, their shunt driver would put it in a door within minutes and within a couple of hours it would be done. Which was great news for me. If I could get in the US a day early, I’d be able to take a two-day weekend. Remember that ‘IF’. The trailer is ready in three hours, but it takes another hour for me to find out because I was looking at the wrong drop lot. I decided to go in and get an update and, on the way, I saw it in the opposite drop lot. Got my papers, confirmed I was good to cross the border and headed to the Laurier crossing. I like it because it isn’t busy and the road on the US side is nice, even if it’s a 2-lane highway. No big hills, few tight curves and only a handful of towns. There is Spokane when it reaches I90, but I found a way around it. It’s a little longer, than driving through Spokane, but a lot easier. Get to the border, go inside. It’s so quiet they don’t have truck booths. I hand in the papers, the officer looked in his is system and asks. “Where’s your permit?” “I’m sorry,” I reply, “What permit?” “your permit to cross here.” Here is the thing. We’ve been crossing at this border for eight months. And we’ve never been asked for a permit. It turns out that no officer should have ever allowed us to cross there, but they weren’t doing their jobs properly. The reason we don’t have a permit is that the shipper never added us to the list of approved Carrier to cross there with their product. I did not know there was such a situation possible. So I turned around, stopped in an aside in the hopes it was an easy fix and called the shipper. Only to find out the person who deals with the border had already left for the day (it was 4pm locally, in the mood I was in, I wasn’t thinking good thing about a person who didn’t have to work until 5pm like all office workers.) I called dispatch to advise them. Drove back to the shipper to park for the night, they are only 10 minutes from the border, another reason I like crossing there. Next morning, 9am their time, noon mine, I go in and find out there’s nothing to be done about it, they can only add a carrier to their list once a year, in December. The closest crossing that is a ‘Commercial Crossing,” is in Ossoyoos, two hours west, over all those horrible hills and turns. Tell dispatch about it, get told it can’t be, we cross at Laurier all the time. I tell them, yes, but we can’t anymore, check with the shipper if you believe your driver is so determined to drive over horrible hills. By the time I bet close to Ossoyoos, I still don’t have my papers so I park at the truckstop there. Only have to wait an hour and I do. I have to drive later than I prefer but I make it to Post Falls, ID, where I like to park anytime I have to cross at that border. My 2-day weekend is gone, but I can take it easy, there’s plenty of time to get to Laredo. Or not. Friday morning my manager, the one who is on vacation, calls me to ask when I’m going to be there. I tell him something on Tuesday. I’m not concerned since it doesn’t need to be there until Friday. He starts asking why so late, it need to be there ASAP. I tell him I need to do a reset (not true, technically, but don’t tell him that) I tell him that the best I can do is be there Monday late afternoon, and he asks why? I have plenty of hours and it’s a holiday on Monday so I need to get there earlier so I can get a load. And here I need to pause. The earliest I could be there, pushing as hard as I legally can would be Sunday, and the office there is closed. If it’s closed on Monday too, what does it matter if I’m there on Monday? If there is a load there for me to pickup on Sunday, it’s still going to be there on Monday. I still don’t budge on my reset. I have stopped caring about them changing delivery times after I’ve done my pickup a long time ago. If I’m given inaccurate information, it is not my problem. He grumbles and tells me to be there Monday without fault, as if I told him I might not make it. So I had to drive a little harder but I got her on Saturday, and rested. One of the things I did while I waited for all that was get more writing done, so you get five chapters of Taking the Line, Chapters 44 to 48. If there is the usual wait time in Laredo, the last five chapters should be done next week. Chapter 16 of Blind Spot is written, and I finished book 5 of LRK’s origin story. 13 chapters. The longest one to date, I hope the longest period. So I’ve started the newest Going Home, which will explore McKannon, the industrial sector of Tiranis, as well as Eric finally making contact with one of his relatives. if you want to read all that, it's only 1$ on my Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/posts/29632610 Another thing I did is take an ADHD test. There’s a warning about how it isn’t a medical tool, but if you score about a certain point, you really should talk to a doctor because, really, you have ADHD. And I do. I didn’t go in hoping I had it, but I strongly suspected I was somewhere on that spectrum. On the lower end, but on it none the less. There someone called ADHD Alien on Tumblr, and they post comics about how ADHD affects their daily lives and quite a few of them resonated with me, but one of the reason I never looked at the condition was that I was successful in school and the stereotype of someone with ADHD as that they aren’t good at school. Things is plenty of people with ADHD are good in school because it’s fun, there’s a lot of new things to learn and we soak up that knowledge easily, so easily most of us never have to bother studying, so we never learn how to study, and then when we hit college, of in my case the last two years of secondary school(I was in Quebec, they have their own system there) things start going badly. I was able to finish Secondary, but College was a bust. I just couldn’t figure out how to study and the concept I now had to deal with were so complex I couldn’t simply absorb them. I mean, I’m bright, but not that bright. So I dropped out, hit the work force and never regretted it. I was also lucky that my parents didn’t have expectations of me going to university and becoming a BIG SHOT™. They were surprised when I dropped out, but it was my life and they let me live it as I wanted. I love them for that. I love them for letting me screw up, then offering to help me up with a “See, that didn’t work, you might want to try something else, I can offer suggestions if you want but that’s up to you.” My mom picked up quicker than my dad that the suggestions that worked best were the kick in the ass kind of things and to then let me assimilate them and proceed. My mom told me months before I did it that I should write in the morning, that’s always been when I was at my best and I snorted, yeah right, mornings, who’s functional then? Eventually I ran out of things to try and did that. When I told my mom that she was right about it she smiled and said “I know.” But yeah, back on the ADHD thing. Learning that it was possible to succeed in school because you had ADHD and then fail for the same reason realigned my thinking. And add to that, that for the few things I can focus laser like on, like my writing, there are tons of them I am incapable of staying focus on. No matter how badly I want to learn them. So, yeah, I have ADHD. Will I seek treatment? No. for me to consider treating any condition I have, it has to either affect my ability to earn a living, or my health(and to be fair, when it comes to my health the potential down side have to be bad for me to even think about talking to a doctor about it) I can do my job without problem; I can do my writing without problems. The rest? Frankly, nothing else matter to a level I am willing to put those two at risk. I don’t Suffer from ADHD, I simply have it. I built my coping mechanism even without knowing I had something. Being Scatter brain? I either write it down, or accept that I will forget about it, and if I forget about it I accept the consequences. I don’t make myself a mess over forgetting it. I fix the problem it caused and move on. I do know now why Minecraft is such a trap for me now. It pulls at my focus by giving me things to do, always more things to do until I reached the point where I’m near panic because I can’t do all of them and I push it away. Until I’ve calmed down. But Minecraft commits the Sin of interfering with my writing by taking over that mental space. It’s why I no longer play it. It’s also why the craving is always there, but me and cravings are old friends. I have no issues staring him down. Okay, this is way longer than I expected so I’m going to pass on the movie and book review this week. You' all have fun, and come on, talk to me. Ask me questions, share your stories, it gets lonely talking to the void<chuckles> And that’s it, so I’ll see you on the next one.
