How does the lead routing system scale as the volume of incoming leads increases?
As the volume of incoming leads increases, the scalability of lead routing software becomes paramount to maintaining efficiency and ensuring timely responses from sales teams. A well-designed lead routing system, implemented through specialized lead routing software, is characterized by its ability to handle larger workloads without compromising performance. Scalability is often achieved through the implementation of efficient algorithms, distributed computing, and parallel processing within the lead routing software. These mechanisms allow the system to process and distribute leads across sales representatives or teams in a timely fashion, even as the volume of leads grows. Additionally, leveraging cloud-based solutions and scalable infrastructure within the lead routing software provides the flexibility to allocate resources dynamically based on demand. Regular monitoring, optimization, and performance testing of the lead routing software contribute to identifying potential bottlenecks and addressing them proactively, ensuring that the lead routing system can seamlessly adapt to increasing volumes of incoming leads while maintaining optimal responsiveness. The goal is to scale the lead routing process with the support of specialized lead routing software, aligning it with business growth and enabling organizations to efficiently manage and capitalize on a higher influx of potential opportunities.

oh my god i don't speak to my dad anymore cuz hes nutty but i know what he does for a living
and musk is currently pulling a "the software govs use is 50 years old which means there can be no advances"
and that's..... that's what my dad does for a living, he gets paid 500-1k an hour to make software that specifically communicates with old legacy software cause he's a 90s dev who knows the old languages still and it's more efficient to hire a freak who knows how to make something to bridge between the old and new programs than to fully trash the old system
like there's literally consultants that get hired for that specific purpose and as a software guy musk KNOWS this

6 Ways eCommerce Platforms Simplify B2B Distribution
Tumblr media
Imagine navigating the complexities of B2B distribution with ease and efficiency—this is the promise of modern B2B eCommerce platforms. The rise of B2B eCommerce platforms has emerged as a game-changer, offering a strategic advantage in an increasingly competitive landscape. These platforms are more than just a means to facilitate online sales; they are comprehensive ecosystems designed to streamline operations, enhance customer interactions, and consolidate multiple storefronts into a unified, efficient system. Embracing a B2B eCommerce platform is not just about keeping up with the times—it's about redefining the future of B2B distribution. Let's delve into how these platforms are empowering distributors to transform their business operations and achieve unparalleled success.
1. Centralized Product Management
One of the biggest challenges for B2B distributors is managing a vast array of products across multiple storefronts. B2B eCommerce platforms provide a centralized system where distributors can manage all their products in one place. This means they can easily update product information, adjust pricing, and manage inventory without the hassle of dealing with multiple systems. By centralizing product management, distributors can ensure consistency across all their storefronts, making it easier for customers to find what they need and trust the information they see.
2. Streamlined Order Processing
Order processing can be a time-consuming and error-prone task, especially when dealing with multiple storefronts. B2B eCommerce platforms streamline this process by integrating all orders into a single system. This allows distributors to quickly and efficiently process orders, reducing the likelihood of errors and delays. With all orders centralized, distributors can also gain better insights into their sales trends and customer preferences, enabling them to make more informed business decisions.
3. Enhanced Customer Experience
In the B2B world, providing a seamless and personalized customer experience is crucial. B2B eCommerce platforms enable distributors to offer a consistent experience across all their storefronts. Customers can easily navigate the site, find the products they need, and place orders without any hassle. Additionally, these platforms often come with features such as customer-specific pricing, personalized product recommendations, and easy reordering options, all of which contribute to a better customer experience. When customers have a positive and consistent experience, they are more likely to return and build a long-term relationship with the distributor.
4. Improved Data Integration and Analytics
Data is the backbone of any successful business strategy. B2B eCommerce platforms provide robust data integration and analytics tools that allow distributors to consolidate their storefronts and gain a comprehensive view of their business. These tools can integrate with existing ERP and CRM systems, ensuring that all data is up-to-date and accurate. Distributors can analyze this data to understand customer behavior, identify sales trends, and make data-driven decisions that drive growth. With improved data integration and analytics, distributors can operate more efficiently and stay ahead of the competition.
5. Scalability and Flexibility
As businesses grow, their needs change. B2B eCommerce platforms are designed to be scalable and flexible, allowing distributors to easily expand their operations without the need for significant investments in new infrastructure. Whether a distributor wants to add new product lines, enter new markets, or integrate with new sales channels, a robust eCommerce platform can support these changes seamlessly. This scalability and flexibility enable distributors to consolidate their storefronts while also positioning themselves for future growth.
6. Cost Efficiency
Managing multiple storefronts can be expensive, with costs associated with maintaining separate websites, systems, and staff. B2B eCommerce platforms offer a cost-effective solution by consolidating these operations into a single platform. This not only reduces the need for redundant systems and personnel but also lowers the overall cost of managing the business. Additionally, with automated processes and improved efficiency, distributors can save time and resources, allowing them to focus on more strategic initiatives that drive growth.
B2B eCommerce platforms are invaluable tools for distributors looking to consolidate their storefronts and streamline their operations. As the digital landscape continues to evolve, embracing a robust B2B eCommerce platform will be key to staying competitive and meeting the ever-changing needs of customers. Whether you’re a small distributor just starting out or a large enterprise looking to optimize your operations, a B2B eCommerce platform can help you achieve your business goals and drive long-term success.

The role of lead routing software
Automated Lead routing software is a specialized tool designed to automate and optimize lead distribution within a sales team. It uses predefined rules and algorithms to instantly allocate incoming leads to the most appropriate salesperson based on various factors, such as geography, lead source, product interest, and sales rep’s availability.
The primary goal of lead routing software is to ensure that leads are promptly and accurately assigned. It reduces the response times and increases the chances of converting potential customers.
Streamlined lead management processes help businesses focus on engaging with leads rather than wasting time on administrative tasks.

[BEGIN TRANSCRIPT]
JEONGHAN: We go in through the east dock. Two snipers posted by 03:40. Chan leads breach. Hansol, your eyes stay on thermal—no improvisation this time.
HANSOL: I never improvise. My brilliance is structured.
CHAN: Can we not do this right now?
JEONGHAN: [ignoring them] Mingyu, once we get him out, you're on evac. Full blackout route. No trackers, no chatter.
MINGYU: Copy.
HANSOL: Any updates on who turned? Someone had to leak coordinates.
CHAN: There’s a list. We’ll handle it after we bring the boss home. One fire at a time.
[DOOR SLAMS OPEN. SOUND OF HIGH-HEELED FOOTSTEPS. SILENCE.]
CIVILIAN TARGET: You’re planning this without me?
JEONGHAN: [visibly tense] You weren’t invited.
CIVILIAN TARGET: He’s my belo—my boyfriend, Jeonghan. You think I’m just going to sit around while you play war games?
JEONGHAN: This isn’t a movie. You’re a civilian. You don’t belong in this room.
CIVILIAN TARGET: No, I’m the reason he still believes in soft things. I belong more than half the people at this table.
CHAN: She’s got a point.
JEONGHAN: Chan.
CHAN: I’m just saying. She’s not exactly fragile.
HANSOL: She did rewire one of my bugs with a paperclip. That was... not unimpressive.
JEONGHAN: [sighs] This isn’t about guts. It’s about blood.
CIVILIAN TARGET: Then you should know mine’s already on the line. Every second he’s gone, I feel it. And I’m done being sidelined. I’m not here to ask. I’m here to help.
[BEAT OF SILENCE. THEN—]
JEONGHAN: You get one job. And if you screw it up, I’ll personally drag you out.
CIVILIAN TARGET: Deal.
JEONGHAN: Hansol, give her the map. Mingyu, loop her in.
MINGYU: You’re going to need a comm. And a bulletproof vest.
CIVILIAN TARGET: Got both. And a knife in my boot.
CHAN: Okay, badass.

🗂️ Operation Homecoming: Field Notes & Briefing Report, compiled by mafia underboss, Yoon Jeonghan
Clearance Level: Top Confidential Date Logged: ██████████ Location: Safehouse Omega-9
SUMMARY: Boss (S.Coups) was captured 48 hours ago following the receipt of a falsified emergency ping traced back to the civilian target’s encoded channel. The ping claimed she’d been injured and was en route to an undisclosed hospital in Sector D. According to surveillance logs, the Boss diverted course alone, abandoning standard security protocol. We believe he was intentionally isolated through signal jamming, then intercepted at the underpass beneath Route 14.
AUTOPSY OF THE TRAP:
Fake GPS tag mimicked civilian target’s bio-signal pattern
Voice distortion software replicated her distress call
EMP deployed upon vehicle arrival to disable tracking
Tactical unit waited with sedation-grade rounds
CURRENT LOCATION OF BOSS: Confirmed. Underground storage facility, formerly Syndicate-aligned. Defected cell now controls the zone. Reinforcements on site. Boss presumed alive—last thermal footage confirms faint movement.
INTERVENTION STRATEGY: OPERATION HOMECOMING
Phase One – Extraction:
Entry through east dock (03:40 HRS)
Chan leads breach unit, Hansol on thermal, Mingyu handling evac
All units silent channel only
Phase Two – Internal Sweep:
Civilian target assigned distraction and misdirection role (see below)
Two-minute window to locate and stabilize Boss
Phase Three – Extraction + Fade:
Mingyu initiates blackout route
Decoys deployed on west perimeter to delay pursuit
Rendezvous at Site Echo
CIVILIAN TARGET: PERFORMANCE LOG
Arrived wearing borrowed Kevlar and jeans tucked into combat boots. Asked if bulletproof vests same in women’s sizes. Did not wait for response.
Showed immediate enthusiasm, zero tactical finesse. Hansol gave her the map. She held it upside down. Twice.
Informed her she’d be working as the visual diversion. Her response: “Like bait?” Followed by: “Cool. I’m good at being annoying.”
Surprisingly effective. Created a loud enough ruckus on the perimeter to draw three guards off their posts. Managed to bluff her way past checkpoint by pretending to be a lost food delivery driver. Claimed she had gluten-free soba for a man named Kevin. There is no Kevin.
Still not sure how she pulled it off.
When Boss was found, he was semi-conscious but breathing. Whispered her name first.
END STATUS:
Boss retrieved.
Minimal casualties (1 injured – not fatal)
Facility compromised but not traced
Civilian target cried in the van. Then threatened to punch me for writing that down. I'm writing it down anyway.
FOOTNOTE — for Seungcheol’s eyes only: You’re reckless, stubborn, and impossible to reason with. But apparently, that’s your thing. You’re also luckier than most of us ever will be.
She didn’t sleep. Not once. Kept looking at every door like you might walk through it.
When you did, she didn’t even say anything. Just threw her arms around you like gravity stopped working.
Try not to make her go through that again.
– YJH

📰 Excerpt from "The Ethics of Mafias: Love in the Line of Fire", a follow-up think piece by Xu Minghao
... If leadership within organized crime is already an ethical minefield, then love within it is something more volatile still: a paradox of vulnerability embedded in violence. New whispers surround the figure known only as S.Coups—the alleged mafia boss whose name, until recently, conjured images of discipline, domination, and an empire forged in precision.
Now, another narrative has emerged. One that reshapes how we understand not just the man, but the very myth he embodies.
According to rumors sourced from both within and outside the organization, S.Coups may have a romantic partner. Not a fellow operative, nor a political alliance. But a civilian. Someone unaffiliated and—crucially—untouched by the bloodied logic of the underworld.
If this is true, the implications are vast.
To love in his position is a risk. It is weakness, some would say. Yet others might argue that such love is the only thing capable of keeping a man like him from becoming monstrous. If the rumors are accurate, she is the reason he looks over his shoulder less. The reason he checks his own wrath. The reason his most trusted lieutenants have stopped fearing him and started worrying about him.
Love, here, is not a diversion. It is discipline.
And perhaps that is the most fascinating ethical twist of all: that this boss, so often theorized as either tyrant or savior, might be both—because of her.
Some say he texts her between assassinations. That he buys her gummy bears because she mentioned liking them once, months ago. That he has started folding her laundry and learning her aunt’s dietary restrictions. These are, of course, unconfirmed. They seem almost laughably mundane. But within the shadowed world of syndicates and secret wars, what could be more radical than tenderness?
Others claim that he was taken. There are now verified reports of a failed abduction and his eventual rescue. She was allegedly involved. They say she showed up unarmed, untrained, and utterly unafraid. They say she demanded to be part of the rescue mission. They say she was reckless, infuriating, and ultimately, instrumental.
And that when he saw her again, he wept.
To be loved, it turns out, is not always soft. Sometimes, it is brutal and inelegant and wildly inconvenient. But in the context of a life built on violence, to be loved is to be saved. Again and again. In the ways that matter.
Whether S.Coups is worthy of that love is not the question. The question is whether it has already changed him. Whether, in the end, the girl outside the syndicate might be the only thing real in a world made of smoke and mirrors.
And whether that, more than power or fear, will be his lasting legacy.
Mafia boss S.Coups is many things. Protector, manipulator. Brother, enemy, friend.
It seems we must add two more things:
Lover, and loved.

“Filnar Go F%$@ Yourself!” was possibly the most disruptive software virus the universe had ever seen.
The program was designed to download itself to a computer, copy the functions of existing software before deleting said software and imitating it, then running its original programming all the while avoiding the various attempts to locate and remove it by security software.
What was strange about such a highly advanced virus was that it did not steal government secrets, nor siphon funds from banking institutions, it ignore critical infrastructure processes, and even bypassed trade markets that if altered could cause chaos on an unprecedented scale. The only thing the software seemed focused on was in locating any information regarding the “Hen’va” species, and deleting it.
First signs of the virus outbreak were recorded on the planet Yul’o IV, but once the virus began to migrate at an increasing rate and latched on to several subroutines for traveling merchant ships things rapidly spiraled out of control. Within a week the virus had infected every core world and consumed all information regarding the Hen’va. It still thankfully had not resulted in any deaths, but the sudden loss of information was beginning to cause other problems.
Hen’va citizens suddenly found that they were not listed as galactic citizens and were detained by security forces on numerous worlds. Trade routes became disrupted as Hen’va systems were now listed as uninhabited and barren leading to merchants seeking to trade elsewhere. Birth records and hospital information for millions of patients were wiped clean as they now pertained to individuals who did not exist.
Numerous software updates and purges were commenced in attempting to remove the virus. Even the galactic council’s cyber security bureau was mobilized for the effort, but if even a single strand of the virus’s code survived it was enough to rebuild itself and become even craftier with hiding itself while carrying out its programming. This was made worse by the high level of integration the various cyber systems of the galaxy had made it so the chance of systems being re-infected was always high.
After ten years every digital record of the Hen’va was erased from the wider universe. All attempts to upload copies were likewise deleted almost immediately leaving only physical records to remain untouched.
To combat this, the Hen’va for all official purposes adopted a new name; then “Ven’dari”. In the Hen’va tongue in means “The Forgotten”, which is rather ironic as the Hen’va have had to abandon everything about their previous culture to continue their existence. The virus had become a defacto component of every computer system in the galaxy and continued to erase all information related to the Hen’va. Even the translator units refused identify the Hen’va tongue and so the Ven’dari needed to create a brand new language.
It wasn’t until another fifty years had passed before the original creator of the virus stepped forward and admitted to their crime. A one “Penelope Wick”.
At the time of the programs creation Ms. Wick was a student studying on Yul’o IV to be a software designer. While attending the institution Ms. Wick stated that a fellow student, a Hen’va named “Filnar”, would hound her daily. He would denounce her presence within the school and repeatedly declared that “what are the scrapings of humans compared to the glory of the Hen’va?”
The virus was her creation as a way of getting back at the student for his constant spite. Ms. Wick was well aware of the dangers it could pose if released into the wild and so had emplaced the limitation that the virus would only infect computers on site with the campus. The schools network was setup that students could only work on their projects within the confines of the institution to ensure they did not cheat and have others make them instead. What she had not counted on was this rule only applied to students and not teachers. So when a teacher brought home several student projects to review and then sharing those infected files with their personal computer, the virus then gained free access to the wider planets networks.
When the Ven’dari learned of this there were several hundred calls for Ms. Wick to be held accountable for her actions, and nearly twice as many made to take her head by less patient individuals who had seen their entire culture erased. Much to their dismay Ms. Wick died shortly after her confession from a long term disease that had ravaged her body for several years.
Much to her delight, she had achieved her goals of removing the source of her mockery.

Excerpt from this story from Smithsonian Magazine:
An ambitious humpback whale is making waves in the marine biology community after researchers discovered he undertook an incredible 8,106-mile swim across the globe, likely to be the longest distance traveled for the species on record.
This odyssey was “truly impressive and unusual, even for this highly migratory species,” Ekaterina Kalashnikova, a whale researcher at the Bazaruto Center for Scientific Studies and lead author of a study published Wednesday in Royal Society Open Science that tracked the whale’s movements, tells Helen Briggs of the BBC.
Humpback whales are by no means sedentary. According to the study, they “undertake one of the longest known seasonal migrations of all mammals.” However, their migration routes tend to go “between latitudes,” traversing north and south to seek out feeding grounds in colder climates and breeding grounds near the tropics. Rarely do groups of humpback whales go from east to west, preventing them from encroaching on other whales’ territories.
That made it all the more surprising when Kalashnikova and her fellow researchers determined that the same humpback whale was spotted off the Pacific coast of Colombia in 2013 and 2017 before reaching Zanzibar, in the Indian Ocean, in 2022. The whale’s exact route between these endpoints is unknown, but he might have dipped south to Antarctica before tracking back up Africa’s eastern coast, which would extend his route even longer than 8,106 miles.
The discovery was enabled by a citizen science website called Happywhale.com that allows professional biologists and casual whale watchers alike to upload photographs of a whale’s tale, also known as its fluke. Distinct marks, patterns, pigments and scars all contribute to making each whale’s fluke one of a kind. Modified facial recognition software using artificial intelligence matches up distinct features that form a “flukeprint,” as distinct and recognizable as a human fingerprint or face.

How does lead routing play an important role in account-based marketing?
When it comes to account-based marketing, nothing is more important than effective lead routing. It’s the process of sending leads to the right people in the right places to convert them into sales. But what happens if your lead routing isn’t up to par? Do you risk losing potential sales leads and revenue?
Focusing on getting more and more leads is fine. But what after having a pile of leads?
You should understand that in this world of fierce competition, your clients have other options too. And research shows that 35-50% of sales go to the company that responds first.
This blog post will explore how lead routing plays an important role in account-based marketing and how you can optimize it for success.
What is account-based marketing?
Account-based marketing (ABM) is a customer relationship management (CRM) strategy companies use to manage and prioritize customer interactions. ABM aims to identify and prioritize customers who are most likely to be profitable or consume the most valuable products or services.
One of the key ingredients of ABM is lead routing. Lead routing helps find and target leads from accounts that have been identified as being high-value or low-risk. By routing leads through qualified sales representatives, account managers can increase the speed and efficiency with which they convert leads into customers.
In account-based marketing, lead routing enables companies to focus their resources on accounts that are more likely to result in successful conversions, and it minimizes wasted time and effort. In addition, lead routing can also help companies protect their valuable assets by funneling leads toward sales representatives who are most qualified to work with them.
What does lead routing software do?
A lead routing software will basically automate crucial steps in your account-based marketing strategy:
Match inbound leads to pre-existing accounts.
Remove duplicate leads.
Convert qualified leads into contacts based on the company’s defined criteria.
Manage employees whenever someone gets promoted into a different position, is on vacation, or leaves the company, including the possibility of assigning their leads to a new employee.
Important roles of lead routing in account-based marketing?
Lead routing is a critical part of account-based marketing and helps ensure that leads are directed to the correct team members. The process starts with identifying which channels generate the most leads. After that, lead routing determines which channel those leads are sent through. This can include routing leads through email, landing pages, or social media channels. Finally, marketing teams can use lead scoring to measure how successfully they convert leads into customers.
Lead routing allows marketers to identify and connect with their target customers more efficiently. By routing leads through channels most relevant to them, companies can ensure that they are reaching the right people and providing them with the best possible service. Additionally, lead routing can help companies track how successful their campaigns have been in terms of conversions and sales.
Some more advantages of lead routing in account-based marketing:
Lead routing enables organizations to focus their marketing efforts on the most likely leads, resulting in a higher conversion rate.
By targeting leads with tailored messages, businesses can convert more customers from cold lists into warm leads.
Lead routing also allows businesses to measure their lead generation and conversion rates across channels, which can help optimize campaigns for maximum results.
Finally, lead routing provides traceability of all customer interactions, so business owners can identify and correct issues early on.
Implementation tips for effective lead routing in account-based marketing
Directing leads to the right salesperson ensures that your clients receive the best possible customer service and can purchase your product or service quickly and easily. Here are some tips for implementing lead routing effectively into your account-based marketing:
Make sure your sales team is well-trained in lead routing. They need to know how to identify qualified leads, assess their interests, and create a customized funnel based on those interests.
Make sure your contact information is up-to-date and accurate. You won’t get as many leads if your customers can’t find you or if the information you provide is inaccurate or incomplete.
Keep track of your leads throughout the funnel process. This will help you identify which leads are converting into customers and which aren’t progressing down the funnel fast enough.
Automate as much as possible, making it easy for your sales team to manage and follow through with. This will help them focus on closing more deals rather than running after leads all day.
How to set up a good lead routing system?
Here are three tips for setting up a successful lead routing system that will help with your account-based marketing strategy:
1. Identify your target market
Your lead routing system should be designed specifically for your target market. Select a specific group of potential customers who are likely interested in what you offer. If you don’t know who your target market is, you can use industry-specific targeting tools such as those offered by CRM software companies.
2. Create lead profiles
Creating lead profiles based on customer data such as age, gender, and interests is important before routing leads. This information will help you match leads with the right sales team members. You can also use profile data to send targeted ads to potential customers.
3. Set up automatic forwarding rules
Set up automatic forwarding rules to ensure that all leads reach the right sales team members. This will automatically forward all new leads from your contact form or email campaigns to the appropriate sales team member’s mailbox. You can also set up triggered forwarding rules that send leads only if certain conditions are met (for example, when a customer makes a purchase).
Summary
Lead routing is integral to the overall customer experience in account-based marketing. For example, when a potential buyer reaches out to your sales team, you must route their inquiry efficiently so that they have the best possible chance of being converted into a paying customer. By understanding how lead routing works and using the right tools, you can ensure that your customers have the information they need to make an informed decision.

[ID: a banner-style image with smudged, grungy text. The banner says "blog update" in bold, capital letters. The background is textured green and white with a film border around it. The upper left corner says "official photograph not to be released for publication." /end ID]
Happy update day!
Greenwarden, Eryinys, and TKP's chapter 1 updates are all coming along very smoothly. (Except for Greenwarden. Firstborn problem indeed. I ended up losing a ton of work -- including the whole library update -- and I got so mad I started working on a whole other route. Coming back to the library route soon, though. I have enough salvageable material, I just need to be Not Mad about it.) Here's some snippets!
CONTENT WARNING: Gore
GREENWARDEN
Adrenaline is a hell of a drug. Sprinting down the street doesn't even hurt, even if you do leave a long blood trail behind you. Your one hope is that the coyote is too preoccupied tearing chunks out of Eddie to pay attention to you. Hope is dangerous -- makes you cocky. Makes you make mistakes. You keep running toward what you think is safety, and you end up right at the edge of Warden Forest. Definitely not safety. You stop just before the mouth of the woods, breathing so hard you gag, your stomach half-open like a yawning mouth. Deep breaths hurt too much -- you can't bring yourself back to baseline. You risk losing your adrenaline rush if you do that anyway. Looking around looks the same. Woods and parking lot, woods and parking lot. There's a trail right ahead of you, tempting you inside. The click of nails against asphalt makes you whirl around. The damn coyote is right behind you, still licking gristle from its teeth.
ERINYS
Marik leads you to a corner covered in paper thin monitors. Cords feed into the biggest computer you may have ever seen, protected from the water and soap by thick rubber casing and a raised platform surrounded by guardrails painted yellow and black. The ramp vibrates under heel. You realize, with a start, that the computer and monitors are much lower to the floor than you'd expect, just as the engineer wheels around to face you both. "Sorenson," Marik says. The engineer grins with a mouthful of pearly white teeth and leans back in his chair, arms folded over his stomach. He's all hard planes. Built with lean muscle, broad-shouldered like DANIEL is, but with a shock of curly red hair and a mess of dark freckles. He has a dimple on his nose. "Marik," Sorenson says, wheeling his chair back to make room for you both. "All systems good. I'm running tune-up software now, just to make sure. Everything is brand new, but still. Can't be too careful." He glances at you. Nothing escapes Marik's notice, even bent across the desk to glare into screens running codes and diagnostics and other things that make you dizzy. Absently, he introduces you to each other. The engineer's name is Doctor Matthew Sorenson. He looks awfully young to be a doctor. "Fury, huh?" Dr. Sorenson raises his eyebrows. You flex your hands. "Whatever keeps you alive, I guess."
THE KING'S PHYSICIAN
The Maw is a jagged white chalkscape. You have to march in single file, careful to avoid the razor sharp juts of rock. The horses are nervous -- the wolf packs and cave lions living in the Teeth have perfected the art of the ambush. Not just that -- the endless bone white expanse can cause the distracted to become easily lost. You keep close count of everyone -- you, Sibir, and Leniza -- their aunt. She gives the whole company water blessings on the way in. Salt water from the Archipelago, to fine their ways home. -> Not that you believe in blessings. You are a person of science. -> You give your own blessings when you can. You can never have too many gods at your disposal. -> You don't have an opinion on religion -- it's something that exists. Annoyingly prevalent, but what can you do?
I'm hoping at least one of these guys will be ready to publish by next month -- but I'm also writing another book! Because I'm crazy. So we'll see!

Why Goodbye Volcano High resonates with me as...
...a musician
As a musician, it's hard not to immediately identify with Fang. What musician doesn't want their music to be heard, to play at music festivals, and have music as their career. I can wax poetic about how music is about self expression and it doesn't matter if I have an audience, but in the end, I still want my music to be heard, and enjoyed. And Fang is on track to making this their entire career.
Making music has been a minor hobby for me. Even as a kid, I knew there's almost no chance I can make it as a musician, so I went down the route of being a software engineer instead. It's such a minor part of my life that I don't even bother identifying as a musician, I just fool around with instruments. But something about GVH ignited that passion in me, and during my first playthrough, I wrote six songs inspired by themes in the game. Even if I'll stay an amateur, I want to make the most from life, and not let the fire die. (See last section)
All that said, I felt very bad for Fang throughout the game. I know how tough the life of a full time musician is. The industry is just completely screwed. And unlike me, Fang doesn't have another option other than music. The game also drives it in that Fang's friends all have viable career paths, while Fang doesn't. But then, the meteor throws an interesting wrench into this, as now Fang is the only one who achieved their dreams. I'm not sure what the point of this paragraph is besides fuck capitalism, give musicians a living wage.
...an enby
Fang really made me more comfortable about being non-binary. It's amazing seeing enby representation that doesn't feel shoehorned in, or merely an afterthought. It's actually integral to the story. Both Fang and Sage struggle having their parents take their identities seriously, and that mirrors my own fears of not being taken seriously as an enby myself, which leads me to only come out as non-binary to my closest friends, and just remain a binary trans woman to everyone else.
It's honestly amazing to see everyone in Caldera Bay being accepting of the queer cast, like being queer isn't a big deal at all. And that's how it should be. Everyone just calls Fang by their name and pronouns (except their parents of course), and no one seems to mind that Reed brought Alvin to prom. This really makes me feel more comfortable about my identity, and I feel proud to be queer. We don't owe them normal.
...an immigrant
It's so rare to see stories about the intersection of being trans and being an immigrant, so when I read Rosa's story, I felt it must've been written by someone who also has first hand experience. There's a distinct feel from my family that me being trans is a "western" thing, not something they could ever understand. Or worse, that I'm being corrupted by "the west" in some way by moving there. There's so much extended family I can never see again because I'm now an abomination of the family tree.
I find it really difficult to talk about this as I fear I'd be misread as being racist for suggesting that my home country is more queerphobic or something, but that isn't my point. I just want to tell my story, and my experience of being alienated for both culture and gender, in both my origin and destination countries, is one that most folks can't emphasize with. (Venba also does do a good job with the culture part, so you should check that out too)
There's a separate rant about how this brand of queerphobia was actually planted by Christian missionaries and not at all "traditional culture", but that's for another time.
...someone struggling with mental health
I've been obsessed with the game for months since I played it. I went through what everyone calls "Dino depression", but I think it really helped me, and it was the game I needed to play at this moment in my life. I struggle with depression and burnout. At times it can be hard to know what the point is, or feel that any of this is worth it. The first few weeks after the game, I actually felt more depressed, as I thought about what the point of life is if it all is temporary anyway, and what I would do if a meteor were to hit in 8 months. And I was scared, because I felt like my life wasn't under my control. Over time, I've learned to think about it more positively. If life is temporary, then it's up to me to make the most of it. If life has no meaning, it's up to me to make my own meaning. I have amazing friends around me, and I still have tons of music to make.

Because I had headcanon that Color is Autistic and has developed special interests in things such as photography, travel, maybe even things like social advocacy.
Maybe even philosophy and psychology. For now, in this posts, I’ll focus on the big two: photography and traveling. (I will also touch on how Color’s physical disability, chronic fatigue, his autism, and perhaps his ptsd/ separation anxiety from Killer also effect his ability to engage in his interests in another post.)
I think he’d develop some decent if not above average technical knowledge, such as camera types and functions. Detailed understanding of different types of cameras (DSLR, mirrorless, point-and-shoot, medium format, etc.) and their specific functions.
Knowledge about various lenses (prime, zoom, wide-angle, telephoto, macro) and their applications. Mastery of camera settings like ISO, aperture, shutter speed, and how to manipulate them for different lighting conditions and artistic effects.
In-depth understanding of how aperture, shutter speed, and ISO interact to create a properly exposed photograph. Proficiency in using software like Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop, or other photo editing tools for post-processing and enhancing images.
He’d learn about artistic elements such as composition techniques, lighten and color theory. Develop a familiarity with compositional rules like the rule of thirds, leading lines, framing, symmetry, and how to creatively break these rules.
Knowledge about natural and artificial lighting, how to use light to create mood and depth, and techniques like backlighting, side lighting, and using reflectors. Understanding of how colors interact, complementary colors, and how to use color to convey emotion and direct viewer attention.
Awareness of different photography styles (portrait, landscape, macro, street, documentary, astrophotography, etc.) and genres, and what makes each unique.
Knowledge about influential photographers and their work, such as Ansel Adams, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Annie Leibovitz, and contemporary photographers.
Understanding the evolution of photography, from daguerreotypes to digital photography, and significant milestones in the field. Awareness of current trends in photography, popular styles, and emerging technologies.
And, of course, he’d develop and grow practical experiences and hands on practice. Experience with on-location shoots, managing different weather conditions, and adapting to various shooting environments.
Knowledge about how to properly maintain and clean camera equipment to ensure longevity and optimal performance. Skills in troubleshooting common issues like lens flare, sensor dust, or focus problems.
He’d have a deep enthusiasm for specific techniques or subjects he enjoys photographing, whichever or whatever you all think those could be exactly.
Likely to have personal photography projects, well-organized portfolios, and possibly an online presence showcasing their work. Extensive collection of books, articles, videos, and tutorials related to photography.
A special interest in traveling, in addition to photography, would manifest in the character in several ways, showcasing their passion and extensive knowledge about various aspects of travel. Here are some specific aspects:
For his interest in travel, he’d be very well versed in the planning and research process. Color might create comprehensive travel itineraries, meticulously planning each day's activities, routes, and schedules.
He might gradually develop an extensive knowledge about various travel destinations, including historical sites, natural landmarks, cultural attractions, and lesser-known gems.
He’d display a proficiency in booking flights, accommodations, and transportation, as well as understanding visa requirements, travel insurance, and local regulations.
An expertise in packing efficiently, knowing what to bring for different climates and activities, and how to pack photography gear safely for travel. Color is likely to show a very deep and profound appreciation for different cultures, learning basic phrases or even fluency in multiple languages to better communicate while traveling.
He’d definitely show a deep interest in trying and understanding local cuisines, knowing popular dishes, and even recipes from various regions. He’d have at least some knowledge about local customs, traditions, festivals, and etiquette to respect and immerse themselves in different cultures.
He’d certainly develop some geographical and historical knowledge, with a detailed understanding of world geography, maps, and the ability to navigate using traditional maps as well as digital tools.
Knowledge about the history of the places he visits, including significant events, historical figures, and the cultural evolution of the region.
He might maintain detailed travel logs or journals documenting his experiences, including photos, notes, and personal reflections. He’d definitely collect souvenirs, postcards, or other memorabilia from his travels; often gifting them to beloved friends.
He’d probably engage with travel communities, forums, and social media groups to share experiences and gain insights.
This special interest would possibly lead to him gaining a lot of practical skills, such as in budget management. Expertise in budgeting for travel, finding deals, and managing expenses effectively.
He might display an ability to adapt to different environments, handle unexpected situations, and problem-solve while on the go.
Although it’d probably be harder for him than most, particularly if he has a harder time handling and dealing with change—especially if the change is unexpected and unplanned.
Knowledge about staying healthy while traveling, such as understanding local healthcare options, vaccinations, and travel safety tips.
He’d like combine both interests by using his photography skills to capture stunning images of the places he visits, creating travel blogs or photo albums to document his journeys.
He might create photo essays or visual stories that capture the essence of the cultures and places he explores. Share his travel experiences and recommendations with others, possibly through writing travel guides, blogs, or social media content.
All this is to say that Killer would definitely encourage Color to come with him to explore abandoned places and ghost towns, and Color’s going to be so overjoyed he starts hand flapping. He’s going to take so many pictures, he’s going to remember it forever.

Family/Laugh: May 12 & 13 Prompts from @calaisreno
The exterior nowheres that Sherlock inhabits can be charted by his footfalls as he wends his way through the precincts of temporary cities. The silent drift of assimilating interior nowheres, however, seems to leave no traces, even as he feels unseen changes taking hold. His suspension in the January North of a darkness that persists until late morning, and then quickly returns in the afternoon, intensifies his perception that he lives in a shadow-world, a lone dark figure extracted from the frozen rain that curtains his days.
The patterns he seeks to capture as he hunts amidst the ones and zeros of cyberspace are likewise intangible – extended solitary vigils as his fingers command the keyboard to winnow through the tangle of codes – as well as tangible, of meetings with the technological mix of people here at Tallinn’s crossroads: software developers seeking the leading edge at corporate labs, security experts at NATO’s Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence, the underground hackers who traverse the landscape of the digital realm’s hollow earth. Both the intangible and the tangible are intense efforts to spy glimpses of Moriarty’s covert presence in the spaces between the ones and zeros, summoning up the networks and nodes of the intersecting spheres of finance, and energy, and communications, as made manifest in trafficking, and counterfeiting, and hijacking, across the physical and human worlds.
He’s accumulated an abundance of leads, some he’s near-certain he understands, and others he’s yet to decipher – but it’s enough to reveal to him his next move on the chessboard: St. Petersburg. He’ll take the train from Tallinn, without needing to step out for border control, which is handled en route. He’ll be leaving Estonia under a new identity; he hopes to keep Lukas Sigerson in his back pocket for later uses, but it’s time to make his presence difficult to trace: it's time to step away from Mycroft’s grid. He’s left seemingly inadvertent clues to allow Mycrofts’s people to (think that they’re) following him, along a pathway that connects the nefarious doings of Mexican cartels involved in establishing meth labs in Nigeria for the Asian market. Their pursuit of him will be turned to good account in dismantling that nexus, even when they realize he is elsewhere.
St. Petersburg is a hive of hacking activity, the physical site of the infamous Russian Business Network, which catered to the needs of cyber criminals. It’s not surprising that it is the city where Vladimir Putin lived, received his education, and joined the KGB, as an agent in its foreign intelligence wing, before tunneling his way to Moscow. Sherlock doesn’t believe that there are many degrees of separation between Moriarty and the dark internet of Putin’s hellscape.
He arrives at the end of Tallinn’s usefulness on a Friday evening. As he packs up his kit in the office space he’s made homebase through a courtesy loan in deference to his Norwegian technology credentials, some of the younger workers have swept him up into their murmurating flock as they celebrate the coming weekend in search of alcohol, bar food, and music. In London, Sherlock would have begged off such a request, were anyone intrepid enough to suggest it, and he would have been unperturbed at whatever anyone might think. But he’s not Sherlock, he’s Lukas, at least for a short while longer, and although his persona is reserved, businesslike and uninclined to make small talk, Lukas possesses an average quantity of affability; and remaining unobtrusive is best accomplished by being amidst the motions of others, rather than making himself conspicuous by setting himself off from the norms of sociality.
He did not, however, anticipate the karaoke session, which is putting a severe strain on the bonhomie he is channeling to Lukas, as it’s clear that he’s going to need to accede to accepting a turn in the spotlight, lest he put a damper on the good spirits of his companions. He nevertheless protests with a smile, holding out his hands, but any input he might have been able to exert on the decision-making disappears, when two of his impromptu friends conspire to tug him toward the microphone, explaining that all three of them will venture forth together, with a song they insist is dead simple to sing, and that the well-lubricated crowd will be delighted to join in with them in belting out the familiar refrain. Which is how he finds himself being carried along within a punchy, melodic stream that turns out to be excruciating emotionally, as the verses unfurl. He listlessly despairs, marooned, a hollowed-out laugh echoing inside his head in response.
. . . When I'm lonely, well, I know I'm gonna be I'm gonna be the man who's lonely without you And when I'm dreamin', well, I know I'm gonna dream I'm gonna dream about the time when I'm with you. When I go out (when I go out), well, I know I'm gonna be I'm gonna be the man who goes along with you And when I come home (when I come home), I know I'm gonna be I'm gonna be the man who comes back home with you I'm gonna be the man who's comin' home with you . . .
He’s exasperated at the universe conspiring to keep him unsettled, to deny him the solace of alone protecting him. He fears that he is fated to have any social contact whatsoever somehow conjure home and reminders of John. The song ends to raucous cheers, and the enthusiasm surges on, and he’s being importuned to name a new song of his own choice before being allowed to return to the table. He looks at the smiling faces helplessly, immobilized by the churning cacophony playing hide-and-seek inside his guts, incapable of conjuring up the simplest of answers. Undeterred, they jolly him along, prompting him to think of a film he’s recently seen, or club he’s been to, or a favorite television show. At the latter suggestion, his mind does slightly slip free, and there is John again, teasing Sherlock into watching another of his favorite shows, Sherlock pretending to be annoyed at being consigned to such a fate. He turns to the young people, and raises his voice to speak into the nearest person’s ear to be heard over the noisy crowd, and says with a question in his voice, Peaky Blinders? He seems to have pleased them, as they fiddle around to pull the selection, bouncing in high spirits and punching their fists into the air, as the music starts, a bell ringing out, and the slithering deep tones speaking of the edge of town, of secrets in the border fires, of a gathering storm -- and a tall handsome man, in a dusty black coat, with a red right hand.
As Sherlock listens to the song unspool, his mind wanders back to the show's themes, reminding him of a line of thought he’d been considering the last few days – that to focus singularly on Moriarty and faceless confederates is not quite the right way to conceptualize the dead man's web: that there must have also been family members in leading positions, positions of trust. One of the deep divides between himself and Mycroft originated in Sherlock’s refusal in uni to agree to work for SIS. Mycroft knew that he would never be able to trust completely any of the professionals who worked for him – after all they are spies working for money. To be sure, he wanted Sherlock to sign on to be able to appropriate his intelligence, but even more compelling was the fact that never having to question the loyalty of a brother would have made him an asset par excellence. Mycroft considers getting what he wants to be an inviolable law of the universe, and Sherlock doesn't think his brother will ever be able to truly forgive him for the rejection . . . especially given Sherlock's devotion to the inferior endeavors of dedicating himself to a life of metropolitan crime-solving. Family; family is what matters. A Moriarty is gone; but there are other Moriarties yet to be unearthed. ........................................................ @calaisreno @totallysilvergirl @friday411 @peanitbear @original-welovethebeekeeper @helloliriels @a-victorian-girl @keirgreeneyes @starrla89 @naefelldaurk
