RECONSIDERING HISTORY
I started working on this project three decades ago, and in recent years have been working with my client to craft a refresh the house.
The house was designed by #francisfleetwood on an five acre property that fronts both the Atlantic Ocean and Mecox Bay providing water views from nearly every room in the house.
Here we see a detail of a seat built into the stairs with a 1919 drawing of #isadoraduncan by #abrahamwalkowitz and a wonderful 19th century inverted obelisk work table; used to store one’s needlepoint or mending projects.
The refresh included the addition of modern and contemporary paintings by #alfredleslie #theodorosstamos #yvonnethomas #larrypoons #georgecondo #richardprince #williambaziotes #leehall #robertmotherwell

TV: Toast (2010)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media

Billy Elliot (2000)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media

Billy Elliot (2000)
Tumblr media
Billy Elliot is a film with universal appeal. It’s laughs, solid drama, and speaks to anyone who has felt like something or someone was standing in the way of their dreams. More than just fluff, this feel-good movie is expertly acted and gets the little details right to make it something special.
Set in 1984, Billy Elliot (Jamie Bell) happens upon a ballet class in the gym where he reluctantly practices boxing. Despite the objection of his father and older brother (Gary Lewis and Jamie Draven), he decides to pursue his passion for dancing.
We’ve seen plenty of films where the rebellious child goes behind their parents’ back to pursue a dream. We’ve even gotten several stories where the kid in question wants to dance (Footloose for example). Yes, you can talk about the way the film makes you feel good, but that in this kind of story, that's a given. It doesn’t take much skill to show an angry father viciously reprimand his sensitive son and get the audience to sympathize. The way it's told is the reason Billy Elliot stands out. This tale is set in County Durham during the 1984-85 miners’ strike. It makes a world of a difference. Billy's father and older brother are not one-dimensional, close-minded bigots, they’re desperate people so frustrated with their lives they've become bitter. There’s something uniquely British about the film. The frank honesty of the dialogue, the nuanced characters, the way it shows everyday life - they all give this story character, make it feel like a once-in-a-lifetime deal. Billy Elliot could never be set in modern times, or at any other time before.
There’s an infectious energy radiating from the film. While watching Billy practice his pirouettes and plies, you feel like you know ballet. Not so much the techniques, but the heart of it. There’s such an overabundant joy present when Billy first puts on his dance shoes that you can’t help but jump up and cheer. Seeing the young boy let loose and express himself, it reminded of one of the purest expressions of delight I’ve ever seen on-screen, Arthur Hoggett (James Cromwell’s character) in Babe dancing to If I Had Words. It’s so emotional I can’t imagine how it could have been broken down into mere words in the screenplay.
That brings us to the performances. It helps that everyone is given meaty roles, but what we have here are great actors honing their craft. I’d like to think that like Billy, they had a passion for this project and decided to go all out.
Billy Elliot is a great film not only because of the strong performances, the many memorable points and the unique British-ness of it all. It's the emotions you feel because of it that makes it great. When I think of Billy Elliot, I think of that quote from William W. Purkey;
“You've gotta dance like there's nobody watching,
Love like you'll never be hurt,
 Sing like there's nobody listening,
And live like it's heaven on earth.”
That’s what this movie is about. It’s a story about someone wanting something badly enough that they are willing to take that chance, to go all-out. You’ll be so pleased with it you won’t even mind that at points it is a tad predictable. I certainly didn’t. (On Blu-ray, October 7, 2016)

NETWORK - Now playing at the National Theatre in London, with Bryan Cranston & Michelle Dockery
Below are more stunning audience impressions from this past week’s performances!!
asaf111 No words to describe #theatre #amazing #inspiration #previewshow #bryancranston #michelledockery #london #network
victorialouhowarth "I'm mad as hell, and I'm not going to take this anymore" - spectacular adaptation of #Network @nationaltheatre #BryanCranston #MichelleDockery #DouglasHenshall #NeverSeenTheatreLikeIt
chrissie_kitsch Network at the national. Brian Cranston and Michelle Dockery both wonderful. Xxx
davechase Network at the @nationaltheatretonight was utterly brilliant! Bravo @BryanCranston & cast 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 #📺 #🎟 #🎥 #network #nationaltheatre #ntnetwork #ntmadashell
solennalegoff Well that was just sensational.
man.of.mode Four minutes and counting to the start of Network at the National Theatre, a stage adaptation of the 1976 film. Incredible staging, with a huge video screen on stage, as well as the newsroom, control room and a bar and restaurant filled with members of the audience. Great performances from Bryan Cranston and Michelle Dockery.
mooshicorn I'M MAD AS HELL AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE #network at the #nationaltheatre - blown away! Go see it!
segovsch Another directorial triumph for Ivo van Hove! Clever, multi-layered, sending a warning to the audience. Lee Hall produced a powerful text for this new adaptation.@bryancranston and the entire cast were simply phenomenal. Get up early, queue for day seats, see if there's any tickets left for later dates - just go. It's a must-see.
shazzfs4 The amazing set of Network with fully functioning restaurant! #ntnetwork #nationaltheatre #foodworks ❤️
turbotom77 This is good. This is more relevant than ever. You should see this. #nationaltheatre #nt #network
bawpsherep Don’t think I’ve ever been so impressed with set design and production as much as NETWORK @nationaltheatre tonight. So many parts all seamlessly moving together. Just a jaw dropping amount of work and talent on show. #network #nationaltheatre
goodie182 Probably one of the best pieces of theatre I’ve ever seen.
mcachilleos Just spent my evening watching the Breaking Bad legend that is Bryan Cranston treading the boards at the @nationaltheatre in a brilliant stage adaptation of the 1974 classic #Network. And let’s not get me started on my new found girl crush on Michelle Dockery...
paulobiz41 2nd visit to @nationaltheatre this week and WOW ... #Network is phenomenal. Absolutely fantastic #theatre
meat_mondays Amazing food and concept, thanks #NTfoodwork and fantastic show - #Network - if you haven't booked to see it, you definitely should! #londonfoodies #londonfood #5courses#wine #show #perfectnight #londonplay
shaunrenoir Holy Shit! NETWORK directed by Ivo van Hove at The National just blew my fucking mind!!
roughgroove The set to "Network" - one of the best theatre experiences I have ever been to. Amazing. #bryancranston is stunning. Provocative and moving. #nationaltheatre
hitchming‪ Just watched #Network@nationaltheatre with @grannyhewlett - OMG - mind totally blown away by every performance, the incredible set, and the superb script... just amazing, you must go see if you get chance! 👏🏻
ehab_samir_aziz Started my #fridaynightattending #bryancranston first ever performance on a #London theatre in a brilliantly acted play based on Paddy Chayefsky film “Network”
mysocalledbrain #ntNetwork was bold, brilliant, blockbuster theatre at its finest and even more relevant in the nuckin' futs world we are currently enduring. Although I could have done without the ever present and somewhat grating sound of cutlery scratching on crockery care of the on-stage diners.
mmclea5 We saw NETWORK last night and it blew my mind!! ............................................. Brian Cranston is unbelievably brilliant. He broke my heart, made me laugh, made me angry and just feel all the things! A masterclass in performance from start to finish. ............................................. Michelle Dockery was divine and Robert Cordery terrified me to my core. ......................................... The staging is ingenious and the use of cameras live on stage plays like a character, relentlessly pulling you further in to the dystopian media landscape. ............................................This brilliant adaptation brought me to tears several times. Sometimes because of the media. Sometimes because of the message. It is such a beautiful example of what theatre could and should be when you get it right. .............................................It could not be a better time to revive this story as far too often lately the news makes it far too easy to stand up and scream from your very core “I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore”. ............................................. Find a way to see this show. You will not see anything else like it. #londontheatre #nationaltheatre #network #amazing #mindblown #magical #brilliant #seethis
doritxuuu Back at my happy place after a two-week break that felt like two years. Spending the evening in the company of @jhsoos , Bryan Cranston and Michelle Dockery.
fionamckenziejohnston✨📺✨📺✨ "You're beginning to believe the illusions we're spinning here, you're beginning to believe that the tube is reality and your own lives are unreal. You do. Why, whatever the tube tells you: you dress like the tube, you eat like the tube, you raise your children like the tube, you even think like the tube. This is mass madness, you maniacs....." the dystopian media nightmare of #Network is just as relevant in this post-truth age as it was in the 70s when #PaddyChayevsky made the film (just swap television for social media.....) now adapted for stage by #LeeHall, staring the brilliant triumvirate of #BrianCranston, #DouglasHenshaw (who I might be a tiny bit in love with, mainly because of #Shetland) and #MichelleDockery, directed by #IvovanHove. (I seem to have seen a lot directed by him recently.... ) Anyway, it's gripping, occasionally hilarious, and car-crash compelling..... And enough to almost make me delete Instagram... #NationalTheatre#weareangryashellandwerenotgoingtostandforitanymore ✨📺✨📺✨
fayederham92 Network at @nationaltheatrewas amazing! Not only did we get to watch a great performance, but we also got to sit on stage and eat a five course dinner 😏😏thank you @westwg 😉
