Daredevil vol. 6 #24 by Chip Zdarsky, Mike Hawthorne, Mattia Iacono, JP Mayer, and Clayton Cowles
I've had a lot of fun with the "I ain't gonna seduce my brother's ex again"/"Again?" panel (possibly my favorite panel in this run outside of the 2020 Annual), but I've been meaning to dig into the rest of this scene because I find it really impactful, and because it adds a new layer to Mike's relationship to Matt's life and to the Daredevil continuity as a whole.
To start, for the record, I don't think Mike is being entirely honest here about not intending to seduce Kirsten, because he was definitely flirting with her, at least to some extent, in the previous scene. Just sayin'. You're not that slick, Mike.
Tumblr media
Mike has been entwined in Matt's dating life for a very long time; after all, one of the main uses Matt initially found for the Mike persona was hitting on Karen Page. Against all odds, Karen and Mike grew quite close, to the point where she considered dating him instead of Matt, but also to the degree that they would banter together in a way that was, frankly, much more casual and comfortable than their interactions with anyone else. Karen and Mike were buddies, and she was a key reason why Matt kept his "twin" around for so long. It was then very touching when Mike's close ties to her were carried over into his new life as a real person via this heartbreaking moment in Daredevil volume 5 #608:
Tumblr media
Daredevil vol. 5 #608 by Charles Soule, Phil Noto, and Clayton Cowles
(This scene was then, of course, followed up a few issues later by Matt having a vivid dream of Mike murdering Bullseye to avenge Karen.)
When Mike returned in the following run, Chip Zdarsky mentioned in an interview that in the new reality Mike had created with the Norn Stone, he wasn't around for those classic Karen interactions--it was still Matt in a funny hat, now impersonating his actual twin brother-- and then vaguely semi-confirmed it on-panel in Daredevil volume 7 #1. I'm not entirely convinced one way or the other, and Mike's Karen connection still means a lot to me. But instead, we have the scene at the top of this post, which possibly replaces it by tying Mike more broadly to Matt's past partners.
We as fans can continue to speculate about which ex(es) Mike "seduced", and what kind of relationship he had with any or all of them in this new version of the timeline. But his startling, fierce anger in this scene suggests a genuine connection and a deep loss. Regardless of what his intentions toward Kirsten may be, he seems affronted by Daredevil's suggestion that he would be a danger to her when Matt is the one who has caused so much harm, and he seems moved by what he knows of Kirsten's pain in a way that suggests he has directly witnessed at least one of the other tragic chapters in Matt's love life. Maybe he did still know Karen in this new reality. Or maybe he spent time with Glori. I'm personally drawn to the idea that he was close with Heather. Whatever the details, we have ended up with a Mike who is carrying real grief and resentment regarding Matt's body-strewn dating history, who is quick to speak up against Matt and in defense of Kirsten, and I could never have predicted that but I love it dearly, not least because of the added terrible poetry of Mike also dying due to proximity to Matt-- tying Mike, in a way, even more closely to that legacy of Matt's dead girlfriends.
There's an extra layer to this scene that I find curious, which is that Mike is yelling at Daredevil. While Matt's civilian identity was linked to some of his exes' suffering (his abuse of Heather, Elektra dying in his arms while he was in civvies, his laundry list of bad behavior after Milla's hospitalization), more of their deaths were caused by Daredevil's enemies. Yet Mike doesn't acknowledge this; he places the blame firmly on his "dear brother in rehab", and acts as though he thinks Daredevil might not be aware of Matt's bloody dating history. This might provide some clues about which of Matt's exes Mike knew (Did he only know one of the women whose death was Matt-centered rather than Daredevil-centered?). We're also prompted, again, to ask the question of Matt's secret identity in regards to Mike, both now and prior to the Purple Children's mind-wipe (which, thanks to the Norn Stone re-write, Mike was now around for). I have been haunted for years now by a specific bit of wording from the mind-wipe. The Purple Children told the world in volume 5 #20: "Daredevil does good things. Forget anything else." It was one hell of a thing for them to say, and its consequences have never really been addressed. Is there a chance that Mike's mind no longer connects those deaths to Daredevil because they were not "good things"? Food for thought...

Do you think he’d find any joy in the hypothetical afterlife, if he knew of his legacy?
– He had such a knack for contempt – of which he would’ve been vibrating for being featured in a post-Burton METALLICA video, performing alongside the brother of the Home Alone protagonist. At the same time, he had a dark sense of humour and could laugh at a lot of things so why not? I can almost hear his characteristic laughter, radiant with disdain. I hope you are well and enjoy your trip, wherever you are Pelle… we sure do miss you. - Jens Näsström, Bardo Methodology vol 1 🦇

PAUL'S BALL
a launch party for wings
Tumblr media
He produced a handwritten invitation, leaving space to write in the invitee's name, as well as a number, which would be used for a raffle drawing toward the end of the evening. (The prize was a magnum of champagne; the disc jockey Jeff Dexter was the winner.) (..) The recommended dress was "glam."(..)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some 800 musicians, reporters, friends of the band and music business honchos were invited.(..)
As always at such events, there was ample carping, which a reporter for Rolling Stone duly cataloged. After describing the Empire Ballroom as decidedly unhip, a leftover from the days when the Joe Loss Orchestra would play foxtrots, and young ladies shopped for husbands among the dancers, the writer noted that while the wine and cheese were free, everything at the bar was for sale.
(…)
Eyebrows were raised when, instead of a Wings performance, partygoers were treated to fox-trots, waltzes, quicksteps, and congas, played by McVay's band-along with what McVay remembered as arrangements of sixties and seventies hits, including a Beatles medley and some Beach Boys tunes. They were raised higher still when the heavily sequined and coiffed Frank and Peggy Spence Latin and Ballroom Formation Dancing Teams filed onto the floor to demonstrate their artistry.
"I'm beginning to think that Paul actually digs all this" one guest quipped to the Rolling Stone reporter, "that he actually likes dance bands, ballrooms, and buffet food. That's incredibly camp, you know, incredibly camp. Have you seen his suit? It's like a clown's costume, the jacket is about five sizes too big, and it's not even been finished."
(from the McCartney Legacy Vol. 1)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Paul: A press launch is always a good excuse to have a night out, so we invited friends and journalists, played the album, danced and had a few funny people come on to entertain. I wore an outrageous big check suit that I thought would be good. When I went to collect it from the tailor that morning he told me that it wasn’t finished. I said, ‘Maybe not, but it’s a look!’ So I went to the party with the cotton and the stitching showing, and everyone said, ‘Your suit’s not finished.’ I said, ‘Yeah, I know. Great, huh?’
(from Wingspan, 2002)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some of the guests that attended were Jimmy Page, Elton John, Sandy Denny, Mary Hopkin, members of the Who, the Faces, Deep Purple, Ginger Baker, Henry McCullough, Gilbert O'Sullivan, Graham Bond, Sandie Shaw, the Greek synthesizer wizard Vangelis, the actors Malcolm McDowell, and Terence Stamp, some of the Monty Python troupe, Sir Joseph Lockwood, the head of EMI, Allan Clarke, of the Hollies, and (Benny) Gallagher and (Graham) Lyle.
After the party a fan encountered Paul:
He went skipping (yes it is true) down the road with Linda and just as he turned the corner to a side street, I took courage and called him back. He stopped and said “yeah” so I ran to catch him up and breathlessly asked him for his autograph. The funny part is my pen was at the bottom of this large bag of mine! He stood patiently watching me with arms folded as I rummaged elbow deep. I asked him if he had a pen as I just couldn’t find mine; he said no (which isn’t surprising as he had this crazy suit on that had no pockets).
(Kathy Turner – From Meet the Beatles for Real: Wings Party)

hello! can i request some Jason centric fic recs?
this is actually such a difficult question. in spite of years spent reading jason-centric fanfics, it is very rare that i find something that i genuinely enjoy. still, i do have some favourites that i go back to.
beneficiary by @sirsparklepants (1/1, 2k)
my favourite post-death jay fanfic. it's such a beautiful, bitter-sweet conclusion to his legacy.
untitled by @pendulum-north (1/1)
this is a very short ficlet. absolutely riveting language, as expected of a poet. my favourite take on the canon divergence that is bruce dying instead of jason. would sell my soul for north to actually write more on it.
what the living do by Anonymous (1/1, 6,5k)
stunning. perhaps my all-time favourite. jason believes he's dead. dick takes him on a road trip.
complications by JHSC (1/1, 6k)
i want to tell you so badly why i adore this fanfic but that would spoil the conclusion. so instead i can just tell you that it contains my unpopular agenda for jason's character development.
the (family) doctor's appointment by smleeish (1/1, 4k)
i have some qualms with the minuatiae of this work but this sickfick surprised me with the depth of the character study. the conclusion is so beautiful in the way it gets to the core of jason's values.
jet black crow by starknjarvis (series, 2/2, 19k)
i normally avoid sex-worker aus so please do know that this had to really impress me to be found on this list. the main reason for which it winded up here is a conversation jason has with bruce in the second installment.
the clay steals the clay by zipadeea (1/1, 2,5k)
just give it a read. a haunting... fix-it. i think about the usage of catholic themes in this fanfic often.
PLUTO. by orpheusaki (@damianbugs) (1/1, 22k)
a huge reason for which i love this one so much is the thematic similarity to the earth-51 arc in countdown. there's such good understanding of what made jason who he is as the red hood & his relationship with batman as the symbol and with bruce as his father.
things that make it warm by one_step_closer_to_death (@hopeworth) (1/1, 4k)
my favourite jay & dick fanfic! if you've been following this blog for a while, you know i am very particular about their relationship. you also know that i believe in jason's need to reconnect with his childhood and that dick should be a part of it, and this piece delivers that in the sweetest way.
of broken, blazing wings by FrEShAVocaNoob (44/44, 190k)
before i get to the praise, i have to say that this fanfic does talia very dirty and that i am not a fan of how it deals with mentions of jason's childhood & his robin days. however, it is also 190k of jason having a perpetual mental breakdown and it follows canon event starting from the lost days and finishing with countdown. it has great pacing and an admirable balance of being plot-driven and the focus on character development. jay is so painfully young and lost. i also really enjoyed dick's attitude. it's a riot and an emotional rollercoaster. i will never recover from it.
compulsory (shameless) self-promotion:
leave no trace, a ficlet on ouroboros.
black out days, a lost days au which is not a story at all. about talia, jason, the need to mythologise and staying away.
and my wip robin (vol 2): future nostalgia, a jay lives au that is to contain follow major batman plotpoints such no man's land and murderer/fugitive.

Hammerin' Hank Greenberg: A Legacy Beyond Baseball 🔨⚾
Tumblr media
This May, as we celebrate Jewish American Heritage Month, we shine a spotlight on Hank Greenberg. Known affectionately as "Hammerin' Hank," Greenberg's journey from the Bronx streets to the grand stadiums of Major League Baseball encapsulates the spirit of the American Dream. His storied career with the Detroit Tigers not only earned him a place among baseball legends, but also made him a beacon of hope and pride amid widespread discrimination against the Jewish community.
Tumblr media
A five-time All-Star and two-time MVP, his exploits on the field were nothing short of legendary. The highlight reel of his career includes the breathtaking near-miss of Babe Ruth's home run record in 1938 when Greenberg hammered 58 homers. More than just statistics, these feats were a beacon of excellence at a time when antisemitism cast a long shadow over America and much of the world.
Greenberg's legacy was carved not only by his bat, but also by his staunch identity as a Jewish American. His decision to observe Yom Kippur and sit out a critical game during the 1934 pennant race spoke volumes, resonating far beyond the Jewish community and becoming a symbolic act of faith and identity.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
World War II saw Greenberg’s values in action again as he traded his baseball uniform for an Army uniform following Pearl Harbor. His nearly four-year service interrupted what could have been the most productive years of his career, yet he returned to deliver one of the most dramatic moments in sports, a grand slam to secure the pennant for the Tigers in 1945.
Tumblr media
His 1956 induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame celebrated not just a stellar playing career, but also his enduring influence as a symbol of courage and a breaker of barriers. This Jewish American Heritage Month, we honor Hank Greenberg: a man who swung his bat with the strength of a titan and stood for his community and his country with unwavering pride and bravery.

Top: CPU, DT
Bottom: Rio, Vol
There are two download versions: standalone and repositoried. ***Important note. I repo'd the Merseybeat dresses to Leto's AF version because it's better, not the originals! Make sure you have that outfit if you use the repo'd version.*** I've also included the Dummy Thicc icon package in both versions, although you don't need this if you have my updated icons for legacy BSOK from this post.
This is also my first upload made using the Repository Wizard! From my testing, everything worked out perfectly, but let me know if there are any issues.
Now to the downloads!

The Arrangement. vol. 1
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The room was stifling, a suffocating mix of old money and even older expectations. Heavy velvet drapes were drawn shut, blocking out the harsh light of the city below. The air was thick with the scent of aged whiskey and polished mahogany, an oppressive reminder of the lineage and wealth that defined every inch of this place. The imposing oak desk that sat at the center of the room was adorned with papers, contracts—testaments to lives already planned out by those who had never lived them.
Schlatt leaned back in his chair, the leather creaking beneath him as he twirled a gold fountain pen between his fingers. His eyes were fixed on the document before him, but his mind was far from it. The words swam on the page, meaningless—just legal jargon wrapped around a concept he despised: marriage.
He scoffed under his breath, dropping the pen onto the desk with a soft clatter. The sharp noise barely registered with the man across from him, Schlatt's father, who was far too absorbed in reading through yet another contract. A lifetime of wheeling and dealing had carved deep lines into the old man’s face, each wrinkle telling a story of ambition, greed, and relentless pursuit of power. Schlatt could almost taste the bitterness in his mouth every time he looked at him.
His father finally looked up, his gray eyes cold and unyielding. “You’ll sign it,” he stated, voice hard like granite. It wasn’t a question.
Schlatt clenched his jaw, fighting the urge to tell his father exactly where he could shove the contract. But he knew better. He’d learned early on that rebellion only led to more chains, not freedom. Instead, he settled for his signature move—a lopsided grin that never quite reached his eyes.
“Oh, sure, Pops,” Schlatt drawled, leaning back further into his chair. “Because nothing screams true love like an ironclad prenup and a bloodline merger.”
His father’s expression didn’t change. “This is not about love. It’s about duty, legacy. You’re twenty-nine, Johnathan. Time to start acting like the heir to the family fortune.”
The word "heir" felt like a slap to the face. It was a reminder that his life had never truly belonged to him. His every move had been choreographed by his parents, their ambitions for him a cage gilded in gold. This marriage was just the latest step in their master plan. And he hated it. He hated every part of it.
He especially hated that he didn’t even know the woman they were forcing him to marry. The daughter of some business associate, handpicked to strengthen the ties between their two families. Her picture had been slid across the desk to him a few weeks ago, as though that was all she was—another deal to be made, another pawn to be moved.
The sound of the office door creaking open interrupted his thoughts. Schlatt didn’t need to turn around to know who it was. He’d been expecting her, after all. The girl who was about to become his wife. The girl who was about to become another item on his list of responsibilities.
You stood in the doorway, your posture stiff with the kind of politeness that comes from years of being told exactly how to behave in rooms like this one. Your eyes—wide and unsure—met his, and Schlatt felt a pang of something he couldn’t quite place. You were beautiful, yes, but there was something else, something more than just a pretty face. It was the vulnerability behind your gaze, the uncertainty in the way you stood just a little too close to the door, as if you weren’t entirely sure you wanted to step inside.
He stood, trying to make himself appear a little less like the unapproachable ass everyone assumed he was. “You must be Y/N,” he said, his voice softer than he intended. He cleared his throat, throwing on that practiced smirk again. “I’d say it’s a pleasure to meet you, but I’m not really into lying.”
Your eyes flickered with surprise, then a flash of something else—disappointment, maybe. But it was gone as quickly as it had appeared, replaced with a cool, controlled expression. “Well, at least you’re honest,” you replied, your tone even. You stepped further into the room, closing the door behind you with a soft click. There was no turning back now.
Schlatt tilted his head, watching you closely. He could tell you were trying to keep it together, trying not to let him see just how much this situation unnerved you. But he could see through the cracks in your armor. You weren’t any more thrilled about this than he was.
“So,” you said, trying to fill the silence that had settled between you two like a thick fog. “How do you want to do this?”
Schlatt raised an eyebrow, leaning back against the edge of the desk. “Do what? The whole ‘let’s pretend we’re not miserable’ thing, or the ‘let’s try to actually get along’ thing?”
Your lips pressed into a thin line, and for a moment, he thought he might have pushed you too far. But then you surprised him—again—by letting out a small, dry laugh. “Maybe both,” you said.
“ I can work with that,” he said, his voice losing some of its earlier edge. “But just so you know, I’m not the easiest guy to get along with.”
You crossed your arms over your chest, a small smile playing at the corners of your mouth. “I figured as much. But I’m not exactly a pushover either, so don’t expect me to just roll over and play nice.”
He studied you for a moment, taking in the determination in your eyes, the way you held your head high even though he could tell you were nervous. He couldn’t help but respect that.
“Deal,” he said finally, offering his hand to you.
You looked at it for a moment before taking it, your grip firm and sure. The handshake lingered just a second too long, and when you pulled back, he found himself almost regretting the loss of contact.
Almost.
His father cleared his throat, reminding both of you that he was still in the room. Schlatt had almost forgotten he was there, so caught up in this unexpected exchange. He turned back to his father, who was watching the two of you with a calculating expression.
“Well,” his father said, his voice breaking the fragile moment, “it seems you two are off to a good start. The wedding is in a week. I trust you can manage until then.”
Note: sorry that one was short. the next chapter is pretty much done. so that should be up soon :) (also i don't really love calling schlatt johnathan, but it kinda fits the story. imma try not to use it a lot) -dottie ★

Motivations:
Jaime Reyes (Blue Beetle)
My man has no idea what's going on throughout his entire movie. He's possessed by a homicidal bug from outer space. He is the official successor of a guy who REALLY wanted to be possessed by the outer space bug but couldn't get it past management and just decided to fake it till he made it with his billionaire budget. His family loves him. His suit is iconic. Sometimes his little outer space bug just goes "hey lil mama lemme whisper in your ear" and then it forcibly takes control of his body and tries to murder people. But also it loves him <3 I think he deserves to win, personally The writers were like "What if the teen superhero had parents that were alive and loving and not criminals" and proceeded to make the most wholesome guy. He power of friendship-ed a homicidal murder ai into being good. His darkest power fantasy is becoming a dentist. Lex Luthor tried and failed to turn him evil so hard he killed him about it, because that was easier. Also his costume kicks so much ass that the main thing that changes about it between redesigns is the eye colour. It's just that good. the 2006-2009 blue beetle run is not only my favorite dc comic, but one of my favorite comics period. it flips so many typical superhero tropes on their heads and does it well. jaime is an incredibly kind and well-written character and his relationship with his family and friends is so touching. Jaime is the perfect blend of goofy and sad, street-level and cosmic, kind and flawed. He was forced into becoming a hero by the weight of a legacy he didn't even know existed and a presence in his mind that would have him become a weapon. Before he even figured out his powers, he was hauled into space by established superheroes to deal with a Crisis and then left for dead for a year while his loved ones mourned him. His primary guides for his first solo were the hostile AI fused to his spine, a mercenary biker who only stuck around to see if he had to kill Jaime, and his normal parents. His greatest power fantasy was becoming a dentist because the power he already has over people's lives was crushing him. And yet, through all of that, his family and his culture and the mundane reality of being a teenager in El Paso were enough to keep him grounded. Read Blue Beetle 2006 and you will understand why Jaime is my son.
Conner Kent/Kon-El (Superboy)
Most 90s person ever, to the point that in the Reign of the Supermen movie they establish that he was basically raised on sitcoms from that era and has at least somewhat based his mannerisms on the characters. All of that mess serves to distract from a compelling story about a kid with identity struggles who has been constantly exploited by the adults in his life. He is a good friend (even basically being the mom friend in Young Justice '98) and I'll never stop being mad about how much they changed him in the TV show. His solo shows a lot of toxic elements of child stardom and how kids are taken advantage of. He doesn't have a name beyond Superboy for a decent portion of his solo until Superman gives him his name, Kon-El. I just like him a lot.
