Does Lessa have a "hates other women" thing going on? I don't think I particularly got that vibe.

I only do if I go looking for it – but it's a common complaint I've seen in reviews and from people I've talked to about the books over the years! (Can I find a single one of those reviews now I'm actively searching? No, but I swear I have!)

Usually argued along the lines of 'Lessa sees all other women as rivals for her man, she never makes female friends, she treats other women as lesser', often with her reaction to Kylara, the girls on the sands at the hatching, and Gemma brought up as an example.

I don't necessarily disagree with the examples, but I also don't think it's...a bad thing? Not all characters are going to be well rounded, sensible people, and Lessa is not. Kylara is attempting to take her one stable relationship away from her. She thought Gemma had ruined her chance to get Ruatha back. She views women being emotional as weak possibly because she was never given a chance to be the things they are due to Ruatha's treatment of drudges.

I just finished rereading Dragonquest. F’nor and Brekke get put through so much, it’s so sad! First Brekke’s queen dies and she almost dies too (I think), and then F’nor almost dies trying to get to the Red Star, an idea which Lessa put into his mind.

Did Brekke ever feel angry at Lessa for manipulating F’nor into going to the Red Star? We know that F’nor wasn’t angry at Lessa, but I could see Brekke being angry. Maybe she understands why Lessa did it, but because of it Brekke almost loses both F’nor and Canth and has to go through another trauma right when she’s still recovering from the first one. I could see the relationship between Lessa and Brekke becoming strained, since even though Brekke does understand why Lessa did it, she can’t move past the fact that it resulted in F’nor and Canth almost dying.

I really do wonder if the relationship between F’nor & Brekke and Lessa & F’lar became strained after the Red Star trip… mostly because of Lessa’s guilt, the fact that the Red Star trip heaped more trauma onto Brekke and Lessa was at least indirectly to blame for it, and the look of loathing F’lar directs at Brekke after she tells him that F’nor has gone to the Red Star.

And another thing, during my last reread I noticed that F’nor and Brekke aren’t really shown in the later 9th pass books that much. Which makes me wonder what they were doing? Were they helping out in Benden Weyr like they did prior to F’nor’s trip to the Red Star? Did they have kids? Were they part of the effort organised by AIVAS to rid Pern of Thread forever? I only remember seeing F’nor have a cameo in one book post-Dragonquest, but other than that, nothing. It feels weird how F’nor and Brekke sort of fade into the background in the later part of the series.

Lessa being short might not be the biggest detail to care about, but as someone who is a super short person I appreciate the detail a lot

I finally get it. lessa (webtoon) is the most viscerally 2015 deviant oc thing I have ever read.

that's why it reminded me so much of lavandertowne's old art - the gorillaz esque art style and the demon obsession, the bishonen pretty boy protagonist, the way the jokes were done, the comic itself..... omg this is a historical artifact to be handled with care...!!

Finished Dragonflight by Anne McCaffrey.

I loved this book! I will pick the series up after I finish this challenge. What a cool sci fi fantasy idea. Dragons that can jump through time.

Not to mention the dragon/rider bonding!

Lessa is such a moody, headstrong character and I love that by the end she is so close and in love with F’lar.

I’m glad this was my D. It was also a quick easy read which I needed after the American Gods and Cresent City.

I have Eragon on hold at the library so I have to skip to Fairy tale by Stephen King for now.

Name ten female characters you like, you get zapped if it's jsut a male character you call a babygirl or other feminine nicknames because I can't see people calling Lestat coquette again
