i love your inuzuka kid!!! my pals and i have been playing a homebrew naruto tabletop game (3 player kids and our GM as our teacher) and while it's a lot of fun to play our little ninjas, inventing village npc kids and thinking about their clans is one of my fav parts. would love to see more!
ahhh interesting! i'm glad ur having fun, i knew somebody who was also playing a homebrew naruto ttrpg once!
i should say though—Nikukyū isn't an OC like that—she's more like...Tazuna from the land of waves arc, u know? she's not fully realized, nor is she really meant for me to play with—she's a mission, the mission's context, a help, and a hinderance, but her story starts exiting the gates of konoha , and it ends on the return to those same gates.

I’m fucking venting here bc I’m angry and don’t have anyone to talk to and I’m not sure if this is political correct or right or whatever but I’m fucking pissed - I’m a public school teacher who works in the inner city and this year alone there have been two shootings in my neighborhood involving students not dying school hours- and one student who went missing due to gang ties (they were found ALIVE a DAYS later) -
I’m fucking TIRED I’m FREAKED OUT and I’m ANGRY because I have to go into work tomorrow and I have to have that conversation with the kids during our SEL block because they will have questions and bc they are in middle school some will not know how to process it and will joke while others will be genuinely upset
and I feel nauseous thinking about the fact that my mother and four of my closest friends are all going through the same fucking shit as teachers at different schools right now- and my roommate who is trans- and unrelated to his identity is also kinda an asshole- has been shitting on me all night about how I’m not I’m danger like he is and how I don’t know his pain (and while I’m not making excuses I’m an openly gay teacher who works directly with the lgbt students and activly educated my kids on trans rights AND I work for a nonprofit organization that directly works to protect trans and queer rights and JUST LAST WEEK put out a video for our organization on antitrans laws - I’m not saying I fucking get what it’s like to be trans but Jesus fuck I’m fighting the fight for trans youth more than you are working at Whole Foods) why the FUCK are you quantifying suffering, why the FUCK are you lashing out at ME of all people, and why the fuck are you telling a public school teacher in inner city Boston that I have no idea what it’s like to be afraid- motherfucker I’m angry I’m sorry but why the fuck are you monopolizing suffering why do you think you have the right to talk to me this fucking way. I get you are scared but you work in Whole Foods in Massachusetts- the bluest state there is- )
there is no fucking cap on grief- sorry I’m upset at this as well but you saying it doesn’t directly effect me is just so fucking ignorant and suffering shouldn’t be quantifiable mf we are on the same fucking side why are you infighting right now (and I know this isn’t relevant and this is entirely unrelated to him being trans but god he is so fucking sexist- saying shit like I have no idea what it’s like to have my bodily autonomy at risk as if roe v wade didn’t get overturned THIS year???) sometimes it pisses me off like fucking sorry I’m being over emotional and overreacting to a school shooting as a fucking public school teacher GOD I should be allowed to be angry too in my own goddamn apartment-
you don’t get to sit on your high horse and say you suffer more than me and that I’m not allowed to be afraid ok I’m done I’m gonna go in tomorrow and make sure to hug my one openly trans kid extra hard bc I know they are suffering just like I know my roomate is suffering and needs a place to express his anger- I get I’m an easy target bc I’m a safe person to lash out at and I’m not telling anyone how to grieve and I know a lot of this is just knee jerk reaction to violence and anger- I just wish he wasn’t expressing it at the one fucking person who doesn’t deserve it, like fuck, the one thing people always say about public school teachers is that we have it TOO easy, especially the night after a school shooting
*Also fuck terfs and fuck anyone who is using a tragedy as an excuse to hate trans people*

Ok I thought I was gonna be making one nitpicky rant about TLoU show deaths but
I guess I’m actually making two. Because I saw another death and while I find there was nothing broadly wrong with it, there was some cinematic choices that drove me bonkers that I just wanna stress over.
So the rest will be under the cut, but for starters, this is about Sarah and Tess
Ok so Sarah isn’t really the meat of this rant, but I do want to talk about her death scene in the show because several things about it had bugged me. And please, I’m not really here to talk about the race swap. Overall I think it’s a little sus, moreso because the actress is the daughter of one of the executives of the show; so it suspiciously indicates nepotism. But the actress herself actually managed to do a pretty great job for Sarah’s death so really I couldn’t give a shit. ANYWAYS, the show’s death. What bugged me about it was the fact that there were CUTS while Joel is trying to comfort her and struggling to pick her up. The beauty of the cinematic choice in the game, where it turns into one continuous shot the moment Joel crawls over to Sarah, is that it inherently puts us in that moment with Joel, and by panning the camera over instead of cutting each time, it really shows how Sarah is right at death’s door, like you can HEAR the exact moment that she cries her last little whimper and just... goes quiet, right when the camera pans towards Tommy’s face. The problem with having scene cuts is that it drags the scene out in such an awkward way. Plus, Sarah’s still actively crying while Joel is screaming for Tommy to help him, and then the moment it cuts to Tommy the audio just cuts out very clumsily. As it cuts back to Joel Sarah’s just already dead, and additionally it makes no sense for Tommy to call to Joel to have him realize Sarah’s dead when she was still screaming and crying right as the camera cut. And then additionally, I’m not fond of the addition of Tommy saying Joel’s name, it feels almost... cold and detached. Like the tone of that line is “Joel she’s dead, it’s too late”. Whereas in the game, he’s moving towards Joel and Sarah and he’s in so much shock because he’s watching his niece dying in a crying, bloody mess.
So long story short, nothing wrong with the scene itself (though I gotta say I don’t think I’m a fan of Pedro Pascal’s line deliveries while he’s trying to stop Sarah’s bleeding. That’s less of a “one’s better than the other” and more of “that’s just my opinion that the emotion of the line delivery in the game was better”). Scene stayed true to the game.
But ohhh, OHHHH, you wanna know which death REALLY ruffled my feathers? Tess. Tess’ death was done so damn dirty in the show compared to the game (and side note, I hate the change to Tess’s character design. I loved the short hair held up by the headband, and I loved the short sleeves that showed her arms). I think by changing the entire death in the show, you take away from the character herself, and let me explain how.
In the game, they get to the Firefly meeting place, the Fireflies have been wiped out, and we find out Tess has been bitten. The military shows up, and Tess tells Joel that she’ll buy them some time and convinces both him and Ellie to leave. And the IMPORTANCE of her line “I WILL NOT turn into one of those things!”, which I’ll talk about. Joel and Ellie leave, Tess composes herself and gets ready to fight the soldiers. As you leave, you hear gunshots and hear Tess scream, and you find out she took out two soldiers; there was six guys and Tess took down two of them. This death is a perfect encapsulation of Tess’ character: resilient, stubborn, tough-as-nails, takes matters into her own hands. That is a death that treats the character with respect and actually plays into the character’s personality. It FITS. Tess is a woman whose life, her choices, it’s all in her hands and she will do what SHE wants to do.
In the TV show, they get to the Firefly meeting place, the Fireflies were killed by infected, and everything still plays out the same with Tess’ infection reveal (and I gotta say I’m not a fan of the dialogue choices nor am I a fan of the fact they tried to heavy-handedly push how Joel and Tess are a couple with the cuddling scene, whereas in the game the ambiguity of their relationship plays better into that final scene. I like the “Look, there’s enough here that you have to feel some sort of obligation to me” way more). Joel hears the infected, Tess starts tipping over some gasoline and grenades, and Joel and Ellie leave. Tess is panicking and frightened as the infected approach and flood in while trying to light the lighter, and then the BULLSHIT. The FUCKING KISS from the infected. And no I don’t wanna hear any ‘bUT it’S NoT A kISS, iT’S INfeCTiNg HEr’ excuses. It’s a fucking kiss disguised under the thin veneer of being some cool new infected lore, and it changes the entire death from a defiant last stance to a creepy, voyeuristic scene that’s going for a cringe-out factor. Like... Sure, you COULD explore that method of infection, it COULD be a neat behavior that we haven’t seen before.
But you don’t do that for Tess. She’s the wrong character to explore that with, and the show better actually try to stay consistent and show that again if people are gonna use the excuse of that scene being necessary. And the reason why it bugs me so much is because Tess, despite her short time in the story, is such a poignant character. She’s Joel’s partner, she’s OUR first partner. Taking that power out of her hands, putting her in this freaky powerless position where it’s like she’s being taken advantage of, does not compliment the character, especially when the death is a very easy to pull off trick that only solely relied on the lighter not working for cheap tension. If you wanted to give us a tense action scene, they could have actually shown us the Tess gunfight scene from her perspective, maybe give her one or two more kills than she had in the game. But this death was really insulting to the character.
TL;DR I’m incredibly autistic about all this dumb shit and it really just boils down to a difference of opinion.

The Horse Incident
So my party forgot to bring their horses with them when running from a dragon
It happens
And I had choices:
1) You Guys Have No Horses Now
2) Automatic Horse Respawn
3) CRIME
and we all know which one I chose
So I have been spending the last two years slowly dropping just. The subtlest hints. That there’s something wrong with these horses.
They’re already waiting at the city gates when you’re ready to leave
You don’t need to stable them, they’ll Be There
And just letting the descriptions get slightly weirder every time
This has led the party to insight check the horses multiple times, and the sheer fucking number of natural ones???? Beautiful
But then they fucking got me back
They left the horses behind to go into a dungeon. Intentionally for a change, there was some discussion about what to do with them and the consensus was “they’re weird they’ll be fine, we don’t need to tie them off or anything”
And, wouldn’t you know, they got back out of the dungeon and the horses were there!
Standing in a circle around a hat and a bag
This was at the end of a session, after about 4 hours of dungeon crawling and a skill challenge, and I figured I’d just let them all get up, see the horses, and call the session
But they didn’t let it go
And they wanted to keep the session going until there were answers
I fucking did this as a tiny bit to continue the slow and gentle progression of creep, THERE WAS NO ANSWER TO WHY THIS HAPPENED
And then the ranger said “hey I have Speak With Animals left”
So we had An Hour Long Interrogation Of Things Pulled Solely From My Ass
On the plus side, I have had to decide on what the eventual horse lore will be!
They’re extradimensional beings from the Horse Plane and there’s gonna be a lot more eldritch horror in the game because it made me giggle when they all freaked out
(It also let me tease one of my Fucking Favourite NPCs I Have Ever Made I Love Him So
He’s a baby elder god, who cannot be directly perceived unless he wants to be (there’s a d100 table to roll on to decide what you see)
Sometimes he eats people and they are removed from time, and the only people who ever remember they existed are his friends
His friends are a group of high class crime related escorts called the Pets because they each have at least one primary client who keeps them on retainer, and have at least one skill considered “exotic” enough to make them a status symbol and a centrepiece at events
He absolutely ate a crime lord at a party because he was rude to one of the other Pets
His owner is not one of his friends so he also can’t understand anything he says; if he doesn’t like you, you just hear garbled static
His true appearance is a Gritty-esque floppy muppet with giant googly eyes
His name is Crackles, but the horses call him The Hungry One, He Who Should Not Be Here)
Our poor halfling rogue is seriously freaked out by them and doesn’t want to ride them anymore… but they can’t acquire any new horses without offending The Horses
The party left them behind to go on a Feywild quest and I was about to attack them during a long rest when our goddamn bard said “I wish our horses were here” because he loves me and likes joy in his life
So instead they found the trampled corpse of a night hag on the next watch, surrounded by… the horses 😌
Poor poor rogue refused to ride them all journey and rode the ranger’s druid mom who was with them for the trip
He didn’t recover until I put in some creepy changeling twins that he has decided are worse than the horses so the horses are fine I guess
(Until they try and eat someone in the party. Haven’t decided if that’ll happen or not yet)
